Oukast: Aquemini (1998)

Beck Did It Better Podcast 1998
About this episode(NOTE: Aaron's recording got screwed up so he sounds like crap for the first hour. Just like the good old days.)  We are officially the best Outkast podcast and at least a good Aquemini podcast when we sit down to take our first stab at being a dirty south podcast. We are talking Outkast, the Motown sound and feel of the album, and the science behind the healing touch.  We talk about getting into it at the airport, going on a date with Russ, Matt's dreams about Pearl Jam and Aaron says his grandma is a great trash talker, even compared to some dude from his high school. This is literally wha

[00:00]in 2020 four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by

[00:04]rolling stone magazine this resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the

[00:08]order and led us to making this podcast we are far from experts and we promise to do almost no

[00:13]research all opinions are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy beck did it

[00:19]better this is album 49 this is easy to pronounce if you're smart like me this is oh no i've been

[00:26]practicing this so much equimini by outcast i'll tell you what guys uh this as you know it is

[00:32]summer summer summertime as the hit of the summer is and definitely we didn't get any texts about

[00:37]that argued with us by some of our dumb shit listeners but i wanted to tell you guys summertime

[00:41]to me means one thing it's about seeing family okay and i'm seeing a couple thumbs down and i'm

[00:47]not gonna say from who okay is that your thumb yeah that's uh that's way down eric oh that's

[00:52]put that away uh so this is a song about seeing the

[00:56]family

[00:56]over the summer and i'll tell you what there's a special subsection of people who love to see

[01:01]their family and let's listen to them right now what's up everybody welcome to k-rob k-r-o-b

[01:07]listen it's the summertime out there for everybody and you know what that means meeting families

[01:12]seeing the ones you love but it also means something for special nephews and nieces out

[01:16]there it's time for them to see their uncle russ oh no yeah this should have been on air

[01:23]it's uncle russ what are the gifts he's

[01:26]bringing to us did you make a game i bet he must we love it when we see our uncle russ oh yes it's

[01:33]uncle russ what are the gifts he's bringing to us did he make a game he must we love it when we see

[01:39]our uncle russ just like simon needed garfunkel the summer ain't here till i see my uncle he

[01:45]always has the best gifts for us so i always love to see my uncle russ i never know what

[01:51]he will bring will it be a shirt or a bobby heenan we always ask daddy what

[01:56]we can get for him he says uncle russ needs a hot girlfriend oh yes it's uncle russ what are

[02:02]the gifts he's bringing to us did he make a game i bet he must we love it when we see our uncle

[02:08]i was like can i do a song that's not about uncle russ moving back to the bus i was like

[02:20]there's no other choice i could i tried all these other things i kept seeing russ russ russ i was like

[02:26]the best part about this is it was literally my niece's birthday today and i got her nothing yet

[02:32]so i've got to show up in like two weeks late so this is like terrible timing i'm sorry i'm sorry

[02:36]lauren hey i got you another skunk costume bobby heenan hey this is the fourth one you've given me

[02:41]why is that russell is obsessed with the skunk costume bobby heenan's that they haven't he always

[02:47]sends pictures of he's like more skunk costume bobby heenan's why are they selling so many

[02:51]skunk costume bobby it's actually weasel costume so we're gonna say russell you

[02:56]gotta get rid of so many weasel bobby heenan's at that store like how many can they possibly sell

[03:01]listen target executives know what kids love and they love bobby heenan the brain

[03:06]if they were selling the skunk ones that would be bad but the weasel ones it makes complete i was

[03:11]thinking of the skunk toy i had growing up which was and i know what you guys are like which skunk

[03:15]toy but oh is he man his his bad guy his name was stink or and his only thing is they look like a

[03:20]skunk and the toy actually stunk i was like this must have been such a discounted toy that somebody

[03:25]bought me

[03:25]have we ever talked about this before speaking of uncle russ nieces and nephews last year one of my

[03:31]nephews for his birthday got these jelly beans that taste terrible so there's like essentially

[03:36]two red jelly beans in the box one is a cherry jelly bean that tastes fantastic and the other

[03:43]one is like a dishwater jelly bean that tastes terrible so the whole point of the game is you

[03:48]either gonna get a poop flavored jelly bean or a grape flavored jelly bean have you guys ever done

[03:53]yeah did you i used i used to be obsessed

[03:55]with those i bought tons of those and then i had one that came in the wheel and i might never forget

[03:59]one white one was like coconut and then the the other white one was uh baby wipes and it tasted

[04:05]just like baby wipes smell it was unbelievable one was dirty socks gross tasting ones are so

[04:11]gross like you have to like wipe your tongue out yeah drink water they're oh the worst was barf and

[04:16]it tasted acidic when it got to the back of your throat and i was like this is so good this is just

[04:21]what i wanted it's really i mean when i was a kid i would have gone nuts and my kids are like i don't

[04:25]want to do this i want to study and i'm like god why are you studying it's the summer it makes no

[04:29]sense okay so rob kill let's think of a better joke to end that our nation's greatest scientists

[04:35]are spending time dreaming up horrible jelly bean concoctions rather than fixing problems like

[04:41]climate change and you know what i salute them i salute you scientists coming up with baby tissue

[04:46]i mean baby think of a baby tissue right now that's one of those smells you could know what it

[04:50]is that's like this is this i'm going to delete this but i worked with a guy who wants to know

[04:55]smelled he smelled the room smelled terrible the classroom he goes somebody hasn't changed their

[05:00]uh some student hasn't changed their sanitary napkin and i was like oh i was like how is that

[05:06]a smell you know you know what i mean like i like picture pepperoni picture baby wipes like that's

[05:11]a smell you know something in that house has gone terribly wrong if that's the smell that you can

[05:16]recognize but you know it but then you call it a sanitary napkin that's that's half the problem too

[05:21]is that you know to call it a i'm a dad i'm just trying to get ruffles going i'm still going i'm

[05:25]just trying to get russell going by saying sanitary napkin this is the episode i'm going

[05:29]to show with my future dates to show that i'm actually a good uncle and now we're talking about

[05:33]sanitary napkins oh i'm sorry russell do you not think women's hygiene is an important thing

[05:37]because it is i have two daughters and i still call the sanitary napkin just to embarrass them

[05:41]all right listen i'm big boy rob from minnesota and i'm with my rob i like that i'm with my

[05:46]threesome double entendre 3000 double entendre so listen uh i'm a gemini at least when i'm with

[05:55]my friend james it's gemini gemini uh i've got russ in minnesota uh russ is a virgo he goes on

[06:03]a bunch of dates and nobody calls him back russell how's it going oh ouch ouch rob you told us you're

[06:09]gonna sell ads on this podcast just to pay the rent five dollars for a table dance and my share

[06:14]of the revenue is spent

[06:16]oh i've got matt in minneapolis i don't know what matt's zodiac sign is but i know his kid's a leo

[06:23]listen it was really hard to think of to come up with a lot of puns for these matt how are you

[06:27]doing yeah you've been working you've been working hard this week haven't you coming up with this

[06:31]episode i'm actually up in north dakota i'm up in north dakota again so i'm doing great i was

[06:36]wondering why the internet looks so shitty yeah that's why i'm breaking up and you can't hear me

[06:43]this is the very that was very good that was very good acting i like it

[06:46]uh and i've got aaron in california who just got back from a family trip and swears that he had a

[06:51]ton of fun he was talking about it right before this podcast he's a he's a pisces a real pisces

[06:56]of shit aaron how are you doing hey there's no slushing in my blood rob i'm very excited to be

[07:03]here and i'm gonna tell you the true story we have two capricorns a taurus and a leo on this

[07:07]podcast so tonight is the tour cap leo corn we're doing portmentos and i realized tonight the word

[07:15]podcast is itself a portmanteau so i'm very excited to be here aaron you are so obsessed

[07:19]with toes you even love portmanteaus you know what i'm talking about lick those things

[07:23]the last time i went out on a date and i asked her if i could do the tour cap

[07:28]corn on her yeah i did not get a call back yeah just tell her your your feet don't look good

[07:33]because you have poor man toes or whatever i was talking about i don't know uh guys i hope these

[07:37]these puns i did haven't torn us apart tore us apart shit i misdid the joke okay start over

[07:43]there we go we're starting over

[07:45]okay here we go welcome to k-rob k these puns haven't tore us apart all right let's get into

[07:52]this week's rolling going it's it's it's it's time to see what everybody's up to it's time for

[08:02]rolling going oh yeah all right i'm gonna start my rolling going this week i had a very special

[08:13]uh time this week i got to do what uh i think a lot of people have always wanted to do after

[08:20]listening to this podcast i got to go on a date with russell okay i was in the cities i went on

[08:28]a date with russell and i will tell you what i was absolutely blown away to be on a date with

[08:34]russell now before we get to being on a date with russell let me explain how this happened

[08:37]i went and picked up my wife from the airport okay and just like any time when you're picking

[08:42]up somebody from the airport

[08:43]you wait in line picking up somebody at the airport is a nightmare it's probably the worst

[08:47]thing of all time and all of a sudden i'm waiting in line for like 10 minutes and all of a sudden

[08:51]this guy behind me as i get close the guy behind me starts flashing his brights and it's not just

[08:56]any brights it's like pickup truck halogen brights and he's flashed flash flashing i see him two cars

[09:01]back flash flash flashing he's a car behind me flash flash flash he gets behind me flash flash

[09:06]i see jenny about a hundred yards away and i say to myself you don't don't do this

[09:12]don't do what you're about to do don't do it you you know you shouldn't get out of the car

[09:17]don't get out of the car but it's gonna be bad you can't help slam on the brakes he's right behind me

[09:23]i slam on the brakes i get out of my car and i go what the fuck are you doing why are you flashing

[09:29]your fucking lights at me and this guy gets out he's about six four he's this old dad from i could

[09:34]probably tell you one of the two suburbs he was from easy he's either a diner minnetonka but he's

[09:42]probably really from like

[09:42]wisetta but he says minnetonka but he gets out and he goes i'm trying to get fucking over and i go

[09:48]we're all trying to get fucking over you think we're driving through here for fun we're picking

[09:51]somebody up from the airport there's a cop five feet away from me i go he's flashing his brights

[09:56]on me and i turn to the cop and i go what are you doing i said there's two guys outside yelling at

[10:00]each other what are you doing right now he did not say a word he did not say a word so then

[10:05]jenny came over because jenny's like i heard you yelling at the guy so i walked over put the bag

[10:09]i'm yelling at this guy opening my trunk putting the bag in

[10:12]jenny gives me a kiss the guy pulls around me picks up his person so now he's in front of me

[10:16]so guess what kind of kiss what's your what's your what kind of kiss was this like yeah what's your

[10:21]airport kiss style right compare it to a movie little squeeze of the squeeze of the tush she was

[10:26]she was kissing me on the cheek and i was like this you motherfucker why are you flashing your

[10:30]lights at me like that i was still yelling at him i'm focused could you have taken him if it if it

[10:34]really came down to a scrap like a muay thai fight who would have won 100 i was enraged and he was he

[10:41]was an old guy i mean he was big driving he's a big suburban dad driving a pickup truck i would

[10:46]have taken him and i would have beat him so bad that i would have put him into a shake rattle and

[10:49]roll just to humiliate him in front of his airport pickup did you have your guitar with you in case

[10:55]you could have hit him with it or not i would i would have put him in like a sleeper hold and then

[10:58]had jenny come over and do the hand up and down thing like what if what if on the third one he

[11:04]would his hand would have came back up and he would have come back to life and whooped your

[11:07]ass in the middle of that airport parking right i'll tell you what i don't roll really

[11:11]the most effective move for an airport parking i don't think so he'd done the root the rick rude

[11:16]one right over him i thought rob was gonna go with the old bushwhackers final move which he

[11:22]was just gonna lick him all over i'm doing the bushwhacker hand motion

[11:27]i would do the uh brutus the barber i'd cut off his luscious gray locks that he had that would

[11:34]be an amazing moment like if tmz said weightlifting champion that never beat anyone in the the

[11:40]weightlifting tournament yeah we don't put some guy to sleep in the airport parking lot then cut

[11:45]off his hair that would be fantastic that would have been great however what i did end up doing

[11:50]is that he probably even better and probably what my actual finishing move would be in a wrestling

[11:53]match scurrying away now without trying to get too much trouble because i realized i just yelled

[11:58]at a cop as well large man scurries away from a fight just like he scurried away from all the

[12:02]competition at the weightlifting event but there's other people in this tournament i'm out i was going

[12:09]to cut off anybody's hair that i beat at the powerlifting tournament i was going to cut off

[12:10]anybody's hair that i beat at the powerlifting tournament as well so the car's in front of me

[12:13]right and they're putting their bags in their trunk so guess what i do i start flashing my

[12:18]lights at him and he looks back at me and he goes and i drove away didn't say anything else i was

[12:24]like this is the perfect conclusion to this i could roll down the window and say something i'd

[12:27]regret but i'm not going to i'm just going to drive away how long did it take you to cool down

[12:31]from this rob it wasn't five minutes down or did it take you the whole day i'll tell you what you

[12:34]know when you're a teacher conflict is like just an everyday thing it probably only took me about

[12:39]an hour and a half to two hours to do it and i'm like i'm gonna do it i'm gonna do it i'm gonna do

[12:40]two hours to finally not feel adrenaline coursing through my veins and finally listen when jenny was

[12:45]talking to me all i heard was like this dull hum of like you're like this is a dull hub a different

[12:50]dull hub than i normally hear when she's talking to you right normally that's like a high pitch

[12:54]really annoying hum but this was a much more dull tone yeah usually when i hear that dull hum i come

[12:59]in and she's sleeping and sweating which is really like what's going on in here and she's like what

[13:03]the door is locked yeah this self-locking door

[13:10]door's locked she's got a picture of russell up on her phone i'm like what's going on in here

[13:14]jeez i don't know how that door locked i don't know what's going on have you heard about this

[13:19]uncle russ he's amazing he gets gifts on time every time oh yeah he never forgets your birthday

[13:27]rob i'll just say this rob well i'll bring it back semi-serious i do everything in my life to try to

[13:32]not get that adrenaline rush because i know i i'm kind of like i go zero to red on some of these

[13:40]when i'm in a car for some reason i don't know and it just it ruins the next hour of my life and

[13:45]i try to get out of those situations i feel so much better if i just wave the guy by or something

[13:50]like that but no i i completely understand i applaud you personally for doing what you did

[13:56]but i oh my goodness i just i i can feel your adrenaline coursing through my my veins right

[14:02]now i had to edit it out but where you said i was a hero i'm not a hero you know what i mean like i

[14:06]don't think of myself as a hero but not all heroes wear tapes right

[14:09]i do appreciate it but it was just it was something about those lights flashing at me

[14:13]it was like i was like it was like i was like the winter soldier and it was the russians like

[14:17]reprogramming and activating me well you just you just want to ask the guy like who do you think you

[14:22]are like literally you rob you're a lot stronger than i think people give you credit for right like

[14:27]you would bend that guy and you would break him and why are you flashing your goddamn lights on me

[14:33]like chill the fuck out you know rob's all upper body though he's got no lower body strength if

[14:37]this guy would have double leg takedown rob he would have been dead

[14:39]how much did you squat rob well i literally what's your record well 750 pounds but 51 jesus but i can

[14:47]tell you the part of the power lifting meet i didn't do so well at is getting stabbed by a knife

[14:52]that the guy has in his glove box that part i did not i got actually got last place in that because

[14:56]i did not want to get stabbed which is my big fear so then we get in the car and jenny's talking to

[15:01]me and of course i'm just ride this high of being the tough guy in front of my wife

[15:04]and she says listen my parents remember we were going out to dinner with the parents and my sister

[15:09]my parents are now buying a car in washington dc and are driving out there so it's just you me and

[15:14]my sister and i said oh great so i was so excited i said hey you know what will make this even better

[15:20]let's call somebody i know is going to be ready to go they're not packing for a trip to north

[15:26]dakota with their family going on in his life we'll certainly have nothing available and he'll

[15:30]show up you would you'd be shocked at how happy jenny was to see russell it was just like that

[15:36]time russell when you didn't think i was going to be home and you showed up my house with circles

[15:39]colored circles painted all over your body and you walked in the door and said it's time to play

[15:43]russell twister and then when you saw me you got all flustered i'm like i'm like russell it is six

[15:47]o'clock we have dinner at 6 45 he's like yep i'll be there guys going on a date with russell is

[15:53]unbelievable he is such a professional dater he is the you think so he is the best conversationalist

[15:59]i have never seen anything like it we covered like we talk about a wedding he'd be like what's

[16:04]the most embarrassing thing you've ever done a wedding boom half hour conversation hey what

[16:09]has been making at home boom another half hour conversation i mean really it was like a podcast

[16:12]in real life except i don't say things i have to edit out later and everybody's mad at me for some

[16:17]reason that's crazy i don't want to one-up you rob but i also had the pleasure of going on a

[16:22]date with russell except in this case it was a true one-to-one date and i can confirm that

[16:27]wow the conversation flowed easily as easily as it ever has russell when we went to the

[16:33]school bus that was make making pizzas russell chose the best pizza he made the right choice

[16:38]is yeah russell is a great date yeah i mean i was sad i was sad i i honestly like i had so much fun

[16:46]talking to russell like i was really sad when we were done and it ended with an awkward hand job

[16:51]like i was like this is he's like that's normal actually at least the end of erin in my day it

[16:57]wasn't awkward at all it was just it we fell right back in the line well you probably knew where you

[17:01]parked in the parking garage so you didn't have to just hop into some random car that was unlocked

[17:04]like we did but is there anything you want to say about russell i don't know i don't know i don't

[17:08]know isn't there a point where a hand job stops being awkward right like i mean it can't be awkward

[17:12]the whole time no it was just awkward after my favorite part about this is i've i've been on a

[17:18]date with rob and some other people within the last week erin you had a one-on-one date and i

[17:24]live i live within two miles of matt and we haven't had a one-on-one date in years we haven't

[17:29]not since champs that place is closed now we haven't right and i wrote down a couple things

[17:34]after the dinner of what we talked about that blew my mind number one there were

[17:38]a dessert made out of buttermilk it was a buttermilk soup to which russell said

[17:42]i will get up if we order that i will get up and leave this table right now

[17:46]and your wife said that your wife said that was the funniest thing of the night i was like

[17:51]how can like she must be oh russell you're so funny she doesn't even hear rob's jokes anymore

[17:56]this had to kill rob because she went out of her way to say like this was the funniest thing i heard

[18:00]all night and that had to kill you rob right that wasn't even funny when you got up to go to the

[18:08]bathroom she's still getting her revenge for a particular wedding where rob was really

[18:16]extolling the virtues of the bride we talked about rob's wedding i stand by that it was the

[18:22]hottest bride i've ever seen uh russell also there's a woman who jenny was competing against

[18:29]the nationals who she cannot stand russell easily brought her up like five times like

[18:33]and every time i could see her get madder madder russell kept bringing her up and i was like i'm

[18:37]not gonna say anything this is so sweet i love it the other thing is russell then pulled off the coup

[18:41]d'etat of any group dinner and i highly recommend this as a move oh we compared uber scores we

[18:48]compared what our scores on uber were how we are ranked on uber and it turns out russell and i have

[18:54]by far the highest uber scores of anyone on the date so i'm gonna ask everybody right now let's

[18:58]get out our uber apps and let's compare mine so the uber actually ranks you as a rider now i do

[19:04]want to say i ride with a dog sometimes in new york city and sometimes as a rider the drivers

[19:10]are too bumpy and sometimes the dog barfs so i just want to put that in everybody's mind before

[19:14]we start talking about uber scores and who's better than who i'll start my uber score is 4.82

[19:21]who is the nicest person on the podcast let's see i am a 4.85 rob i'm slightly above you

[19:28]you're 300 just like i'm a better date than you i'm also a better uber ride that's terrible

[19:32]click on the three lines

[19:34]okay okay rosie slash my dad click on the three lines on the top says your name aaron what are you

[19:39]at what's your 4.93 holy shit aaron wow yeah also the least surprising thing of the podcast that he

[19:47]would have the highest score because a 4.93 is impressive because that means you've had to take

[19:52]enough where one four like you've got to have hundreds of fives to get a four up to a 493

[19:58]that's amazing can you think of why somebody would have given you a below a five aaron doesn't that

[20:03]make you enraged

[20:04]probably slam the door too hard one time or something does your wife give you a ranking

[20:08]every time she drives you around the san francisco area yeah uh this maybe this was i think this was

[20:15]not in an uber i think this was in lyft but uh i did uh take a lift once where my cat peed in the

[20:20]car but i think it mostly got on my lap and not on the car but i did uh retroactively give a nice

[20:26]a nice tip so can i ask you why did you have a cat on your lap in an uber without a cage

[20:32]no the cat was in the cage the cat was in the

[20:34]he was in there because i was taking him to vet rob because he was sick because i was taking my

[20:39]sick cat so calmly rob okay if i was an uber driver and i showed up and the guy was like

[20:44]i'm taking my sick cat to the vet i'd be like nope out you're you're out i would just say no

[20:50]you're not i would start flashing my brights that you like the guy tells me you have to call ahead

[20:54]about pets and i tried to call and then you can't really get through to anyone and so then the driver

[20:59]shows up and i say hey i have this cat in his carrier are you sure you're okay with it and he's

[21:03]like is the cat gonna be at the carrier and i say yeah yeah and then we get out i guess i'm giving

[21:07]him so much water right now i'm really letting him drink this water who drink up kitty kitty

[21:10]and i realized my pants are covered in cat piss and i'm just hoping that they didn't get on the

[21:15]guy's i'll tell you what that's a great cover-up aaron that's why you need a fanny pack i should

[21:18]have said that at the power lifting meet i should have said the cat peed on me shit that's what rob

[21:23]said after he broke into that car after the double date the other night oh my god what is everybody

[21:29]scores again i finally got mine just now we're way past that i know but what's everybody's score

[21:34]we're at a 482 485 493 i'm a 483 i'm not the worst rob

[21:41]are you serious i'm the worst one on here you're the worst one

[21:47]yep even compared to the cat piss guy you were the worst one on our date i think too

[21:51]no no jenny was below me i know for a fact she was that is true she was she was like a 4.5

[21:59]she was really bad aaron rolling going how's it going with you oh it's going great i had a nice

[22:04]day today i turned on the finals of the euro cup uh soccer match when my son went back for his rest

[22:12]time today so that felt like a strong bad move like you know while it's gonna go listen to his

[22:16]stories i'm gonna watch some soccer so i enjoyed that did roberto baggio miss a penalty kick to

[22:22]lose it or not no but the day the english did miss some pks to lose it it was very sad i didn't i

[22:28]didn't enjoy it guys we're

[22:29]talking about euros but sometimes you got to talk about myos you know what i mean

[22:32]yeah well this is a sports themed rolling going because i was thinking so i was in iowa last week

[22:38]and minnesota uh seeing family i did enjoy it rob i know i i did have some stressful moments

[22:44]which i will not discuss in the podcast much more calm than you were earlier before we started

[22:47]recording yeah you were like letting the language fly yeah yeah well we do have a bit of a vacation

[22:53]hangover going on in my house but um but it is the nba finals and so i wanted to do

[22:59]a uh an nba finals themed rolling gun and uh chris paul uh they got the

[23:05]oh yeah i love the football like it that was the worst part of my date with my double date with

[23:12]rob was when at the very end when rob wouldn't go home with me and he played that song it was

[23:17]brutal it's true in front of everybody aaron you played that song and everything went just fine

[23:22]just fine smooth as silk i gotta think chris paul is one of the better trash talkers of our

[23:27]generation and anytime the finals come around there's more nba stuff on social media and

[23:32]there's been a lot of stuff uh interviews with folks lately about larry bird's excellent trash

[23:36]talk i realized when i was home i sat down one night i was watching my grandmother play cards

[23:43]against my mom and they were playing gin man this sounds like a great vacation it turns out my

[23:50]grandma is one of the best trash talkers i have ever met in my life she will she will lay your

[23:57]life bare while playing cards and i remember she used to play against her father-in-law and the two

[24:03]of them would go at it neck and neck tooth to tooth excellent trash talkers and she's this

[24:08]combination of the like the tim duncan style where she'll sort of like compliment a movie that you

[24:14]made and then like the chuck person style where she'll say something ruthless like when she

[24:18]then sticks it to you with the uh with the next card so my question you guys is who are the best

[24:23]trash talkers you've seen in real life who are the who are the great trash talkers in your lives

[24:27]mine is my grandma lola i realized this last week i there's a guy i follow on instagram who's a

[24:32]weightlifter and he recently beat somebody at worlds well he beat he beat somebody that's like

[24:37]the world if if you make it the nationals you don't have to beat anybody if you make it the

[24:41]worlds you're gonna be one person he beat somebody at worlds and he recently posted on father's day

[24:45]congrats uh happy father's day to me for being igor k's dad because daddy because i beat him so

[24:52]bad that's me and i was like well yeah trash talk is a whole different thing that's another level

[24:57]strong i was like saying that you're somebody's daddy over instagram about power lifting when you

[25:02]actually don't go against each other in any form i think it's so good but it's always the other the

[25:07]other great trash talker that i remember in my life is pj dotrieb who was a high school basketball

[25:11]player for ankeny high school pj was like 5 10 160 pounds pj dotrieb was this floppy haired guy

[25:19]like a like in the pistol feet that's what i call my penis but he won a state title as a junior in

[25:23]high school and he was an absolute legend for just shit talking and he was a great guy and he was a

[25:27]all day long he didn't care he could shoot from anywhere so i would say uh my grandma lola my great

[25:33]grandpa emerson and pj dotrieb those are the three best trash talkers i've seen in person in my

[25:37]lifetime aaron i can't wait to put this as our clip for the show on instagram you're talking about how

[25:42]the three greatest trash talkers of all time are two relatives and some guy nobody's ever heard of

[25:47]from high school pj dotrieb everyone's heard of him you see what happens if we put pj's name in

[25:52]our podcast description you never know think if pj played your mom played your grandma and gin rummy

[25:57]god like that right i would be to see that it'd be so exciting the problem with trash talking is

[26:02]is you're never ever like always on top right like you always have a fall back to great and so

[26:09]grandma grandpa whatever they can trash talk all they want but like if you're in athletics

[26:12]you always get beat you're always get old you always retire somebody always best you right

[26:17]and so it's just never a good idea it's just not a good idea if i ever met aaron's grandma i would

[26:22]just play aaron's performance on this podcast and drop the mic and walk the fuck away and be like

[26:27]the dna burn i i was playing card i think there's something about a there's something about cards

[26:33]of the family because you know what gets them i was playing my sister makes us play until she

[26:38]wins right so my dad and i are partners we're playing against my sister we come back and beat

[26:42]him once we there we're down again and you can just see there's a comeback coming i said dad do

[26:49]you hear that and he goes i do hear that and he starts going and i go oh it's the comeback train

[26:54]and then we give each other the victory glass and then we go oh it's the comeback train and then we

[26:57]give each other the victory glasses we're giving the victory horns and we're absolutely unbearable

[27:01]to deal with when we're together uh matt rolling going how's it going with you uh good i'm up in

[27:07]north dakota i've got uh just a list here of things to go through um it was raining the other

[27:12]day i went to your list today what's that we can't see your list normally we can see your posted we

[27:17]can't see it today is it like a got a virtual type whatever oh my gosh and so okay so i went

[27:23]to movie theater for the first time it was it was great to be back in the movie did you see

[27:27]in north dakota they were showing gone with the wind that's the movie that just got up there

[27:31]yeah it was good so we saw boss baby 2 is raining up here so we decided to go into town and and uh

[27:37]and see a movie um i'm paying my kid to write out words he doesn't know this summer that's kind of

[27:44]his thing that i'm doing like and really he thinks it's so that he learns new words really

[27:48]reading's really bad so i'm trying to just get him to write right and so he comes back he goes

[27:53]i got and his big thing is trying to find words that i've never heard of before so he came down

[27:58]he came down from the cabin that he goes okay here's my words and the first one was excoriating

[28:03]and sarah and i both went ah excoriating i know what excoriating is but then i kind of said

[28:08]what is excoriating because i don't know so um i've been on a lot of boat rides some things i've

[28:15]learned on the boat uh out here in north dakota um there's some new tv show called sex life and

[28:22]apparently episode three is about sex life and i've been on a lot of boat rides and i've been on a lot of

[28:23]at 1942 all of the women keep talking about something from sex life on netflix episode 3

[28:32]1942 i don't know what it is but you know i don't know if our listeners we since that's kind of our

[28:37]demographic you guys should go check it out apparently everybody's talking about it um went

[28:42]to the i'll tell you what's a good way to not help your sex life is go visit family yeah

[28:48]yeah that helps there's a joke in there somewhere

[28:52]yeah i'll

[28:53]all three of you got real serious on that you've been on too many trips recently

[28:57]one of the uh one of the closest towns where we're at is called turtle lake north dakota we

[29:02]went to turtle lake days they had a parade right down main street it was 30 minutes it was perfect

[29:07]that's 30 minutes in the parade who was in the parade it was like the highlight of the parade

[29:11]there was the you know like the fire uh the fire brigade came through a couple farmers there was

[29:17]some old cars the class of 1991 came through and was passing out can koozies from turtle lake

[29:23]did you knock over when they were throwing out candy no but that's the thing is every float for

[29:28]30 minutes through as much candy we said we ended up at the beginning of the parade somehow like

[29:34]just we didn't know where we're going we just ended up there and so the kids literally can't

[29:37]think of like the old like a backpack that you've got they literally came back with a backpack full

[29:42]like you couldn't put any more candy in it and so now we've got a backpack full of candy it was

[29:46]unbelievable the amount of candy thrown out here's a tip pro tip for parade people if it's i don't

[29:51]like when matt does that when he says here's a tip if it's july if it's july and you're gonna

[29:57]have a parade at noon on a pavement let's not throw chocolate out m&m's no good no milk duds

[30:05]no good like let's let's realize what's gonna happen to that chocolate you know as soon as it

[30:09]gets on onto the street so that's just the pro tip um i i like that the the democratic socialist

[30:15]float goes by it's just one person in north dakota whoa um by the way i will say they make you give

[30:20]some candy back uh here's the thing if you're a teacher and you're at a parade for your school

[30:25]if you're a teacher and you're at a parade for school it turns out it's not the same as other

[30:30]parades because kids on floats it might surprise you they will try to whip candy at you as hard as

[30:36]they possibly can and so it turns a parade into a fun time into a ptsd type scenario where i am now

[30:43]terrified of going to parades after getting hit with a cheery jolly rancher right in the eye

[30:47]my last thing that i got on my list is i had

[30:50]maybe the best dream that i've ever had in my life oh bat wow this is where the podcast is getting to

[30:56]it it hasn't even taken 50 episodes i love it best dream i've ever had maybe the best dream i've ever

[31:01]had i was hanging out with pearl jam oh no david was filling in for pearl jam and and eddie vetter

[31:08]asked me to come up with a set list yes but much like all of these things much like all of these

[31:14]things where you know like you know you can't think of anything you can't get there i couldn't

[31:18]come up with like more than two songs for pearl jam and so i failed i failed at coming up with a

[31:23]set list for the concert they're at and and black hole sun oh no that wasn't you oh no

[31:30]matt wakes up matt wakes up and his wife's like we can't travel anymore you gotta stay home when

[31:36]you're gonna have these dreams matt what's the opener and what's the closer open within hiding

[31:41]and end with young ledbetter because they had they always they always end with a really calm one you

[31:48]know some issues that a trampling and horrible thing happened you know when they ever yeah these

[31:53]all these groups they end with like their best greatest ever you know pearl jam ends with a

[31:58]soft one so they kind of bring the crowd they're so good they have to end with they are they're so

[32:01]good i mean three hours matt in his dream though he was like play man in the box they're like that

[32:06]was alice yeah so that's all i got that's all i got on my list that's what's rolling going that's

[32:10]an amazing list i like i like that matt's first thing is like well i'm in north dakota so i went

[32:14]to see a movie like like times are times are rough when you're

[32:18]in north dakota hanging out with family russell rolling going how's it going with you rolling

[32:22]going we've talked about this once before a while back i went back to the gym for the first time but

[32:26]now that we're kind of starting to get back to the real world i've been i've been to the gym

[32:31]multiple times so i thought we could go over jim and i again i had to share a few of my gym

[32:35]experiences and rob's a professional lifter so maybe rob will have thoughts on this but it might

[32:41]be different than the rest of everyone out there so i thought i'd give you guys a few experience

[32:45]ahead of the gym see what you thought is that cool sounds good let's hear it let's hear it let's hear it

[32:48]russell's gym corner oh ah oh yeah jim and i the first one is we've talked before about someone

[32:57]monopolizing machine in this case the other day i was at the gym and there was a man and his wife

[33:04]or spouse or girlfriend or whatever but they monopolized a part of the gym for like 35 minutes

[33:11]where they had like three machines and they were lifting stuff what i gotta ask is if you have two

[33:17]people alternating on machines and you have two people alternating on machines and you have two

[33:18]machines are you allowed to monopolize that stuff for twice as long as you would if you were just

[33:23]there by yourself two people i'm gonna go i'm gonna go with uh technically no but i'm gonna go

[33:31]with this if they are there every single day and they've been there for 10 years and like you know

[33:36]you've got some gym cred if you've been there for if they're new they haven't been around and they're

[33:41]just going to come in and try to use it i don't know i give jim cred the people who have been

[33:46]there consistently and they've been there for like 10 years and they've been there for like 10 years

[33:48]throughout this whole thing have been members for a long time so i don't know it's hard to tell

[33:52]essentially matt's not going to talk shit to someone who's stronger than him is what he's

[33:55]saying yeah no i'll tell you what if you're one person if you're one person you get to monopolize

[34:02]two machines if you're doing strict supersets if you are two people you get to monopolize

[34:08]two machines that's it you cannot use more than two machines you're going back and forth if you're

[34:13]using three to four machines that is too many machines to use there's no reason that you're

[34:17]using that many machines that's it you're not going to monopolize two machines that's it you're

[34:18]not going to monopolize two machines that's it you're not going to monopolize two machines that's it you're not going to

[34:18]and russell you have a right and a duty as a gym goer to hop in even if you don't really want to

[34:23]do the lift just hop in and do a set and say hey can i work in they have to say yes they have started

[34:28]flashing my lights and it didn't work but which machine was it and were they doing good clean rep

[34:36]russ is now trying to think of a gym machine uh is that one where your legs come in and out

[34:40]because the one if they're doing half reps that one that really burns me like get in there do your

[34:47]work do it for real

[34:48]and then get out of there no they were doing like each would do the each would do the rep and then

[34:53]they would have a conversation it was it was they monopolized like a a 10 by 10 foot area of the gym

[34:59]that probably would take they have like a towel machines for a half russell are you talking like

[35:04]here this is no but i'm not a i'm not a i'm not a break-in and say can i can i jump in on a set i

[35:09]just want my space yeah i don't want to i don't want to jump in so i just want them to move along

[35:14]this is eight by ten area the men's bathroom and it was a toilet and like the shower

[35:18]you're like hey come on guys is that funny i feel like that's funnier than what you guys did

[35:23]it could be the second one i was gonna ask you this could also be okay this could also be

[35:29]different for rob because rob is lifting is a huge part of rob's life but what do you guys

[35:34]think about small talk at the gym people who are at the gym and they're constantly going around

[35:38]instead of getting their stuff in they're constantly going around their talk they're

[35:42]chatting up people they they spend an hour and a half talking to people 10 minutes doing what

[35:46]they need to do what do you think about socialites at the gym um i i have there's there's a guy who's

[35:52]86 years old at the gym that i go to he lives about a block and half my parents he all he i

[35:57]mean this is his social life right like he shows up yeah so that he can talk to people he's in the

[36:03]locker room talking to people he's you know people are in there getting dressed and so he's like look

[36:07]how i'm drying my balls i put my foot above the air dryer i dry my balls it inflates like a french

[36:13]air hot air balloon you gotta lean into that you gotta lean in a little bit you gotta lean into that

[36:16]just to get a little bit more underneath it yeah just flying up and you're like what hey what age

[36:22]do you have to get to when you can do that and am i there yet or not yes yeah yeah oh good i'm glad

[36:27]i'm glad you guys confirmed that my behavior was acceptable but the problem is is like you know

[36:32]like i i want to i want to craft out like once a week to talk to him and we want to talk twins and

[36:37]he knows all this kind of stuff like i want to talk to him because i understand you know that

[36:42]look this is a social thing for him but half that you have to

[36:46]strategically see where he's at and you come out of the gym you know you look up he's over there i'm

[36:52]gonna go i'm gonna go left he's over to the right i'm gonna go left kind of a thing and so i don't

[36:56]know it's you have to i don't know it it it sucks i'm not gonna lie it's horrible you want to get

[37:03]you want to do your thing it's horrible to talk to people especially when they don't want to lift

[37:07]you want to lift right you just want to get in and out but i think it's it's your duty as a human

[37:11]being to uh you know at least help that person out for five minutes and talk to them can i recommend

[37:16]it's something i do at the gym to get people to stop talking about me just repeat after me hey i

[37:21]have a podcast you want me to tell you about it and i find that ends all conversation immediately

[37:26]check and check so what what was it what was the experience though russell's somebody talked to you

[37:32]or you just see people talking yeah russell had some hot woman talking to him he's like god damn

[37:36]it i'm trying to do these hip adductors here well speaking of the hip abductor my next question was

[37:41]going to be should i do my 90 minute abductor routine at the beginning or the end of the

[37:46]my set and is five inch shorts too short or do i need to go to seven depends on the under what

[37:53]you're wearing underneath them i didn't think you had to wear anything at the gym i thought

[37:57]you were good don't you need to stay easy breezy that's what i thought rob plus you know those

[38:03]balls are dry russell's been in there doing a super set on the on the shower to the hair dryer

[38:08]the next real question is is what do you guys think of the person who jumps on the cardio

[38:16]i think it's a good question because i think it's a good question because i think it's a good question

[38:20]because i think it's a good question because i think it's a good question because i think it's

[38:22]a good question because i think it's a good question because i think it's a good question

[38:23]because i think it's a good question because i think it's a good question because i think it's

[38:24]a good question because i think it's a good question because i think it's a good question

[38:24]okay okay okay if there's five urinals in in the bathroom i go to the one right next to

[38:32]okay sure and somebody comes in and they they don't go to let's say one two three four five

[38:37]right they don't go to number one or number five they go to like two or four that's one of these

[38:42]logic puzzles right yes and then somebody else comes in and there's two people and they go to

[38:46]the third person i mean like you it's all messed up a good choice everybody just understands to go

[38:51]to one or five and then the second person goes to three or one you know we're covered we've got

[38:55]three it's the same thing did you hop in did you personally russell hop into a the wrong position

[39:02]to begin with and then force them to come in or is there multiple no matt matt i i am i am over

[39:10]analytical about this okay i walked in and i try to find the the possible spot where i can stay as

[39:16]far away from the other person as i can and i try to find the the possible spot where i can stay as

[39:16]far away from the other person as i can and i try to find the the possible spot where i can stay as

[39:16]far away as people as possible so i'm going to always go one three five set i always stay on

[39:20]the end so no one needs to go next to me all right so then the only other thing is for this person

[39:25]again if they're like a lifer they're in there they've been there for years if this is their

[39:29]machine and that you know that's right next to you it's acceptable but you won't know that until

[39:34]you've been there for two or three times and they're and they're in on that machine you know

[39:38]every time that you're there so you got to give them a little bit of grace until you realize like

[39:43]you know what that person's never been there so you could talk about hold on i got i got

[39:46]to ask rob and aaron this so let's say i'm on a machine and i'm next to matt and that's always

[39:52]using the third machine and i'm next to it does matt need to move away and go somewhere else or

[39:57]is he allowed to use his machine right he gets to use his machine but i will say if you're in a gym

[40:01]with uh uh aerobic machines fuck that gym you don't need that gym you need a gym where there's

[40:07]weights and there's racks and that's it if there's any running or like heavy breathing going on you

[40:12]are at the wrong ellipticals yeah no step machines no

[40:16]way maybe a row machine i think the key is russell when you get next to somebody like that you just

[40:20]go 0.1 higher than what they're doing you know what i mean like they're they're running at three

[40:24]you're at 3.1 you're like oh no big deal to me i do that oh yeah you check in on them because

[40:30]then you start running and then you get like locked in step you got to run a little faster

[40:34]than them yeah oh yeah for sure if i could go 0.1 higher than anyone i know i would be much

[40:38]i would not be single right now i'd still be i'd be much better off what you do then when you need

[40:42]to quit is that you take your phone you go hello hello and then you hop out the treadmill like

[40:46]you got a call and that's why you had to stop running not because you're you feel like your

[40:49]heart is going to jump out of your chest it's going to be an important call from like real

[40:54]business yeah hello hello yes it's the dick hospital yes it is so big what i can finally

[41:02]wear five in shorts thank you so much great oh why are you that 10 million dollars direct for

[41:08]my checking account because i already know it's not still gray no color has come back thank goodness

[41:16]is it supposed to be gray yes i've been yes i have been drying it with the air dryer like you said

[41:20]okay and it's still supposed to be gray like that's darker than the rest of my body that's

[41:25]normal okay that sounds good thank you glad to hear that because i was getting some looks

[41:28]by the way when you when you had russell's uh machine you know talking to his date that said

[41:35]this is the average size american penis that still makes me laugh for this day why do we have to bring

[41:40]that back up have i not gone through enough recently for you guys why do we got to do that

[41:44]average size russell's

[41:46]counting women as well so that's that's the thing it's not medium if you take a bunch of zeros i'm

[41:52]looking pretty good like the median penis size whoa forget about it average that's everyone

[41:57]there's a lot of zeros in there let's get into the album now russell sent a very nice note the

[42:01]other day saying hey you know what let's get in the album part we should have a soundbite for this

[42:05]i didn't do that but i did make a waterbed one that we haven't used yet so let's listen to my

[42:10]waterbed song i've got an ocean of the ocean you made a

[42:16]waterbed corner oh it did show me something we do every time

[42:22]all right so great let's talk about waterbeds or aquamini

[42:27]okay i'm just gonna play one more

[42:31]i've got a waterbed this is the back did it better waterbed corner oh yeah

[42:40]oh yeah why is that the sound of a waterbed i don't want to get into it for you

[42:46]you know what why do we only have why do we only have dozens of listeners and not more

[42:51]this is a very important album i really i apologize to the whole dungeon family

[42:56]what is happening all right so do i i'm so sorry okay all right here we go

[43:02]so the it's 40 it's 48 on the list rob can make his water buds

[43:07]49 russell we're moving up this list we're almost to what are your three sentences rob 1998 this is

[43:15]1998 album

[43:16]to give you a little history of outcast andre 3000 and big boy met in high school now i think

[43:22]about like friends i had in high school and like becoming superstars with them none of the people

[43:26]i knew in high school is what that happened with that's why i waited for college guys like you to

[43:29]become superstars of the podcast where we have literally dozens of downloads they came out

[43:34]southern play a list of cadillac music came out when they were 19 and that album was certified

[43:40]platinum in a year okay so here's the thing this album aquamini is a portmanteau

[43:46]of their zodiac signs and the album is supposed to be kind of a blend of their

[43:49]parallel thinking of how they do an album 1996 they came out with at aliens did i say that one

[43:55]right am i right there yeah and it's kind of like hip-hop but it's more outer space jazzy stuff

[44:01]and you can hear a ton of that on this album along with the fact that guess who andre 3000

[44:06]was dating during the making of this album what you're gonna do with erica bad yeah i mean there's

[44:12]no doubt that erica badu had a huge influence on the sound and kind of the what you hear especially

[44:16]toward the end of this album i think when it gets out of the the more hip-hop stuff more into the

[44:21]experimental stuff and for so he had a baby with erica badu now he did what any guy who has a baby

[44:27]with somebody does it says listen i gotta get to work you know you either get into like long

[44:31]distance running or triathlons or you go like i gotta get to work i gotta go live at the studio

[44:35]i want to take care of this baby oh my god i love the baby so much and i love you but i gotta get to

[44:40]work so they lived in this studio for weeks at a time and literally just musicians would come through

[44:45]so now we have a hip-hop

[44:46]album where once again they're bringing live musicians and i saw in one interview somebody

[44:51]likened it to motown whereas just these people coming in jamming and they would take what they

[44:55]liked from it and use that very similar to what we've seen on a lot of these great albums where

[44:58]basically this was their album where they got to really be in full control we saw with the beach

[45:02]boys we saw the beatles we saw a little bit with paul simon's graceland andre 3000 did a ton of

[45:07]production on this album while big boy did a lot of the hooks and the beats and man some of the

[45:16]little things that we're going to hear in this album you can hear a little bit more of the outer

[45:17]space jazz theme but toward the end you can hear kind of a hard guitar sound that we're going to

[45:21]hear on stanconia with their next album as well this album i do find really interesting when the

[45:26]rolling stone list first came out this was 500 on the rolling stone list it is now it is now all the

[45:32]way up to 49. yeah but the first list came out in 2005 and so it was literally like seven years

[45:38]afterwards so it was a big deal to be on that list when the original list came out and so

[45:43]all right you guys ready to get into the album

[45:46]yeah i'd love to all right let's get into it here we go

[45:49]aaron is not amused by this the rest of us are laughing sometimes rob but you need to get rid

[46:00]of this on this album this is not gonna i haven't had mad get mad at me yet on the podcast but we'll

[46:04]see this might this could be the episode of that i've had too many captain cokes to get mad at you

[46:09]this week i don't know we'll see you might log off early this one too we'll see what do you guys

[46:14]think of this is the beginning the very intro of the album

[46:16]it's not like a banger song right off the bat it's kind of the smooth quiet thing what do you

[46:20]guys think of it as an intro i you know i'm just gonna say this i this album i've never listened

[46:26]to before i had trouble getting with the the setup of this album until i listened to it a couple

[46:32]times and part of it is that everything on this album to me sounded like it had way too much bass

[46:36]but i was listening to it in my dad's car and then i listened to i was listening to blues traveler

[46:41]and i was like jesus this song has too much bass and i was like i think this car just has too much

[46:45]bass when blues traveler is doing too much bass so i'm not sure i i mean that's the that's the

[46:50]that's the appeal to me of outcast is that it it rewards repeat listens it rewards really paying

[46:57]attention it rewards listening intentionally but it also just fucking knocks right i mean parts of

[47:04]this album just absolutely bang but it does really require you to sit in and pay attention i think

[47:09]that's what they're doing with this first track and the lyrics i mean i've never i mean i've i'm a

[47:15]huge fan of this album and i've never listened to it before i've never listened to it before i've

[47:15]been a huge outcast fan and the lyrics on this you find new things every time you hear it every

[47:21]every time so here's the deal guys i when i took this album and i realized i needed to get the clean

[47:27]version because there's so many n words in it i was shocked the idea that outcast was a hit like a

[47:34]like a rap album with bad language blew my mind because all i've ever heard before was ms jackson

[47:39]and hey so i thought that's what i was going to be hearing i was like wait what so your guys's job

[47:45]today is to hear outcasts and i was like wait what so your guys's job today is to hear outcasts

[47:45]me that i should love outcast how about that for a theme sure there's a lot to love about it return

[47:51]of the g this is this is a banger if you will once they get past the intro that intro kind of

[48:01]with the thumb piano this is this is the hook to get you into the album for me it's definitely got

[48:10]that west coast influence to me and it's like yeah they're for sure letting you know like we're gonna

[48:15]wrap our ass off like we're gonna wrap your face off we're gonna hit you with the bass

[48:18]but it might get weird too yeah and a lot of this was response to people criticizing dray for how he

[48:24]dressed and what he looked like because he wasn't your classic you know rapper and they were saying

[48:28]no no no check us out we're we're gonna bring it but even outcast is i mean like it's not what you

[48:33]think of as rap it's not west coast it's not new york it's southern rap so you have to understand

[48:40]that you want to talk about hooks is big boy one of the best

[48:45]in the game at writing hooks apparently uh uh andre23000 came up with this song

[48:50]and big boy was at home listening to it and he wrote the hook and he said i got it i nailed it

[48:54]he came up with this hook and just nailed it listen to this

[48:57]this was definitely on my win amp player when i was in college

[49:05]this was the only outcast song that i remember when i was 18 you know college

[49:15]student that i remember being really big for outcast this is the only one i remember being

[49:20]on my win amp you guys were other songs really commercially hits or very popular at the time

[49:25]no spody od dope delicious when we get to it i mean is all right about as bad but this song

[49:30]and then you've got that break in the middle where they kind of break it down

[49:33]is unbelievable you know with the horns and everything and i yeah that that's what got me

[49:38]into outcast my favorite thing about this song is that i like to imagine that that andre was

[49:43]actually in the studio going back and like a like a like a like a like a like a like a like a like a like

[49:47]i like to imagine how long he was wait what did he say i know it was a little more time aaron

[49:51]for future episodes here one more time we couldn't hear you were away from the mic

[50:03]what was aaron what if andre 3000 was on a waterbed

[50:06]these guys are gonna hate you by the end of this job

[50:13]i won't take till the end don't worry about that i'm a professional so this next song i listened to

[50:18]it and i was like god skewed on the barbecue this is a class this is a hit and it's not a well-known

[50:22]outcast song i'm so smart for thinking it's a hit i look it's the first single off this album i was

[50:27]like god damn it yeah and they put real fun on it right let's keep it on the barbie wing trying to

[50:32]lose say happy night they don't change the book it's the hook on this is so strong

[50:36]i like that they switched up the sense to be kind of sinister and spooky because it was like

[50:42]cool

[50:43]and rayquan's verse on this is impenetrable i don't know what the hell he's talking about

[50:52]so rayquan's on this and he says that oh we weren't planning to make this big in new york

[50:59]with this but this is what made outcast respected in new york a southern rap rayquan from from

[51:06]right yeah if you get rayquan's face on your shit you're good you want to hear aaron's thoughts on

[51:12]rayquan listen to our wu-tang episode is where does where does rayquan wake rank on like the

[51:18]wu-tang rappers like if he comes to your and he's part of this is that a huge deal or where does he

[51:22]he's the top he's the number one out of like seven i mean for me i put him behind i i put ghost and

[51:28]ray one and two i mean as i mean a lot of people would put the jizza that's the jizza fraud as they

[51:34]but um i i think i think i think ghost and ray are the top two and raise on top of the thing so if

[51:41]he's blessing your shit you're good man but man you have thoughts on that too on the wu-tang episode

[51:46]aaron kept saying about how the only one he knew is old dirty bastard he's like oh i really love

[51:50]old dirty bastard i don't really know much about hip-hop but you know that really embarrassed us

[51:53]when our podcast got reviewed and that's what the guy heard and then by the way we edited out the

[51:57]part where we talked about the guy reviewing it because he gave me a hint of criticism and i and

[52:01]i got out of my car and started yelling at him he went full flashing lights on him

[52:05]that guy just hit flasher once just the one little the hook of that song where it's

[52:11]cast keeps it hopping like a kangaroo i mean it's just you i could not help sing that in the car like

[52:17]it's just so awesome now we have and aaron i know you like this it's a titular track okay and this

[52:24]is a quimini and i didn't even pause that time before i said it a quimini okay this andre 3000

[52:31]according to the site i was looking at they think that this uh his fourth verse is one of the best

[52:36]verses in all of hip-hop history let's listen

[52:38]the wind count to 10 beat the twin andre

[52:41]i'm an andre guy i think andre he's uh eclectic if you will from a rapper standpoint we get into

[53:01]this uh kind of throughout right like they again this album is their third one they could do

[53:08]whatever they want because of what happened on the first two albums

[53:11]that they put out they they've got their street cred if you will i mean he's a mayor of quotes

[53:16]they got the street cred on the first two so they could put out whatever they want on this one and

[53:20]moving forward and so i think andre he's very much um he's not both of them they're not your

[53:27]classic rappers right and they don't pretend to be your classic rappers but they are absolutely what

[53:33]a lot of people resonate with you know like i'm not a gangster i'm not from new york i'm just a

[53:41]lot of the south uh you know they they embraced who they are and so i think uh i'm definitely an

[53:47]andre guy over a big boy how about you uh yeah so um my probably my favorite rap verse of all time

[53:55]maybe my favorite rap song is uh andre's opening verse on international players anthem so i'm

[54:01]probably an andre guy i love the way he plays with language and rhythm like i can't remember

[54:04]which track on here is maybe coming up later where he says it's like a trachy odami fill it in your

[54:09]tummy so he's always doing weird stuff like that but i think andre he's definitely an andre guy

[54:11]with language and yeah uh and rhythm and he and he he draws out syllables and does really

[54:16]interesting things but i love big boy's ear for a hook i love his ear for uh a rhyme and when i

[54:24]bought speaker box love below i definitely bumped speaker box way more than love below and that's

[54:28]really not fair because that's when andre was kind of trying to branch out but i love that big boy

[54:33]always stuck to what he was good at and like he can he can rap a weed rap or a sex rap as good as

[54:38]anybody this side of ludicrous sex rap

[54:41]that was foul sex rap i don't do that you know caveman didn't use caveman didn't use sex raps so

[54:46]it's like it's not even natural

[54:47]so it's almost didn't didn't one of you guys say that this this is a mashup of words this

[54:56]is it a portmanteau or how do you say that what does that mean aaron toes

[54:59]talk about two words together where i had to look this up today because i wanted to be able to think

[55:05]of some some uh examples so words like brunch or rob you coined the portmanteau

[55:10]linner back in the day where you would have an extra meal between lunch and dinner uh and the

[55:16]word podcast is itself a portmanteau mashup of ipod and broadcast yeah there's another actually

[55:23]another artist who also has used portmanteaus in their song titles and you guys have to check out

[55:29]there's a song by beck called chem trails which is a portmanteau of chemicals and trails it has

[55:36]to do with airplanes or rockets that are leaving those trails in the air oh aaron

[55:40]so this aaron talks about chemtrails all the time oh my god that and fluoride in the water

[55:45]mind control stuff it turns out that chemtrails there's like a big what it's it's a it's a

[55:51]conspiracy theory isn't it rob that essentially 100 these these trails in the air from these

[55:56]airplanes are actually like biological weapons dropping stuff back and beck has written a song

[56:01]about this check this song out this is chemtrails by beck check this out

[56:05]so

[56:10]that's a pretty good song about about a conspiracy theory wouldn't you say i'm not gonna lie you guys

[56:18]i voted for a candidate for california state assembly who is on record as believing in

[56:23]chemtrails shout out to about cool this is why we do the podcast yes aaron that's awesome manny

[56:30]manny from south st paul taught me this hmm rosie let's talk about that more tell me more about that

[56:35]yeah i voted for her in spite of the chemtrails issue because

[56:40]because i believe representation matters so we can get into that on our politics podcast please

[56:44]don't do that to us don't switch it around now we're the bad guys either way regardless i gotta

[56:49]ask you guys when it comes to making songs with a portmanteau in the title that may happen to

[56:54]reflect a conspiracy theory who does it better did it better i'm gonna go with outcast on this one

[57:01]actually chemtrails like when you look at the wikipedia page it actually says it's a

[57:06]portmanteau i'm like that's badass if we can find a back song that's a portmanteau

[57:10]i love that russ set it up by saying i don't know what a portmanteau is and then just dropping the

[57:15]hammer on us that he did know what it was but this is essentially the astrological sign of

[57:22]andre and big boy mixed together right do we say that right a quemini i don't know if we did i think

[57:28]i think man's had too many portmanteaus of roman cokes he thinks it's one word roman cokes roman

[57:33]coke are you guys zodiac signs like i've been on dates with women who like after a first date have

[57:39]asked me my birthday and my time of birth so they can see like what what my sign is and where what

[57:46]moons i'm in are you guys a believer in the signs zodiac absolutely not absolutely not is the dumbest

[57:52]shocker of the shit in the world you know what and here here's the other thing um and you know

[57:58]maybe i've had a couple roman cokes but that's all right but like you know um sarah when they

[58:03]had her second kid sarah was having some pain right and so this nurse came in and said can i

[58:08]can i do some healing touch right and so she took her two fingers yes yes and she just hovered them

[58:15]over sarah's you know where the pain was right and it was just like closed her eyes and tried to like

[58:19]yes make the pain go away and i'm oh fucking good fucking god i got out of it how do i turn

[58:25]ever since then yeah how do i turn my video off this zoom call that's that guy from cnn it worked

[58:32]well that sounds so much like me on a date my sophomore year of college where i'm like

[58:36]have you ever had a massage with

[58:38]like oil oh i don't want to get your bra all oily oh right let's talk about that how did that go

[58:48]tell me more about that yeah it went so well we got married all right so let's i wonder where are

[58:55]we now oh we're all the way up to synthesizer we're cruising through i would love to be the

[59:01]healing touch guy at the hospital by the way hey i'm the healing touch guy let me in come on come

[59:06]on but literally come on fingers like this you

[59:08]guys can see me two fingers is like did it work no it didn't work the california guy says it didn't

[59:16]work you dumb shit all right synthesizer now i did want to this this is andre saying that

[59:21]everybody seems like synthesized experiences more crank the song

[59:26]i was gonna say you know this is why i like big boy though because he throws it out there he throws

[59:35]this stuff out there and he doesn't give a fuck you know and so

[59:38]he's got these rhymes that you know he every song he's got something you're like

[59:42]you know i don't know and sometimes you know you can say things to like and people will instead

[59:47]of saying like what that's so crazy they'll actually get real mad at you okay and they'll

[59:51]try to criticize things you say on the podcast and say that we have to edit it out even when

[59:54]not listening back to it maybe he wants to see if maybe it was actually kind of funny and clever in

[59:58]a statement about society this song feature this song feature george the feature george clinton

[60:04]yes and that's what jumped out to me but like aaron you're a funkadelic guy you're a p funk

[60:08]all-stars guy like right i know george clinton vaguely from like atomic dog but you are really

[60:13]into george clinton so like tell us about george clinton what did he do and like why is he so big

[60:18]in all these rap albums well what's cool about calling a song with george clinton synthesizer

[60:22]is that his group uh his groups parliament and parliament funkadelic and funkadelic

[60:28]utilized synthesizers so much and keys so much so i like and i like what he starts talking about

[60:33]at the end about um the digital world i'm gonna lose i don't remember what he said exactly but

[60:38]he perfectly went straight from analog into digital and influenced hip-hop so he's a funk

[60:43]impresario he was a songwriter he was a band leader and so that's why it's so cool to have

[60:50]him on here but i gotta be honest with you guys i was so pumped about this song i had never listened

[60:55]to this album all the way through i was really stoked and so i thought you know wouldn't it be

[61:00]great like if i'm gonna listen to this album i should do it right i'm gonna like get myself into

[61:05]a nice altered state and listen to the album so i'm gonna listen to this album and listen to the

[61:08]so you're out sniffing chemtrail you saw a plane fly overhead so you went outside and breathed in

[61:12]the chemtrails and now here you are i didn't do my dad's better and and i got myself into a nice

[61:18]what i thought was a nice state to listen to the song it was too much for me i couldn't even finish

[61:22]it i was like this is freaking me out all of these sounds on here they're changing how their

[61:27]voices sound i can't handle this i have to be i have to be stone cold sober to listen to this

[61:32]stuff this music is too much for me there's maybe a chance you couldn't finish it because the album's

[61:38]20 minutes too long with skits and other nonsense at the end of songs right well that's true i'm

[61:42]talking about this song song specifically this was the one that i had to turn i was like i gotta go to

[61:46]bed i can't do it aaron i think the other problem is maybe getting high at a family function when

[61:51]you're visiting them in the west is a big mistake oh man i wish i'd been no you had fun remember

[61:57]that's the bit you had fun bad aaron all right so let's do slump be more precise when we do

[62:03]i think this was my favorite song on the album i love the beat

[62:08]i love the energy on this one this was my number one song on the album

[62:11]yeah i like the guitar on here nice posse cut i don't know who the other rappers are on there

[62:18]right it's not is that goody mob are they on this one goody mob yeah i need to do honor atlanta

[62:23]and so in honor of atlanta i decided to go and honor the peach state so i've made two cocktails

[62:29]tonight that feature the peach i made a georgia peach and i've also made a peach old wait what's

[62:36]the drink with just beach not

[62:38]out of the bottle no a peach what's what's the one where you get the fancy glass rob the peach

[62:46]martini martini peach martini i've also made and just in really to really honor okay let me see

[62:52]the martini glass well i don't have a martini glass this is the glass i had and it's gone

[62:57]i don't have a martini glass he has a white wine glass he's drinking a martini i have a white wine

[63:01]glass but so i had a peach martini but i made sure i didn't pour olive juice into it but i'm gonna say

[63:08]anyways this peach martini was dirty dirty tonight that's so good what's in it what's in

[63:13]a georgia peach russell a georgia peach was rum peach schnapps orange juice and a peach a peach

[63:22]a whole peach garnish well i ate the rest of the peach but there was one oh my god russell you know

[63:28]they have a pit in there i hope you didn't eat that whole peach you're gonna have major problems

[63:31]to give a peach is is a peach an underrated fruit or not oh the peaches are tough because if you get

[63:38]them perfect they're great but if they're not ripe enough no you know they're they're not no good but

[63:43]if they go overripe then yeah they're no good you got to get them perfect you get them perfect

[63:47]they're about the best fruit there is my favorite way to have peaches is in a can that was put there

[63:51]by a man in a factory downtown by the way pandora station president of the united states of america

[63:57]listening to it all weekend it's so good so goody mob we talked about goody mob right so this is

[64:02]kind of these other guys who are great talent you know that were hanging out with andre and big boy

[64:08]and goody mob out of goody mob they started their own albums all this stuff came silo green

[64:12]so we know silo green is a pretty popular dude coming out but silo green is part of goody mob

[64:16]who's kind of a ancillary part of uh this group and we will not be shouting out silo green because

[64:22]he has had some legal problems in the last five years that are not great oh yeah let me i'll just

[64:27]say this he's taking notes on how bill cosby got out of jail all right let's talk about west savannah

[64:32]they wanna be me and my family too because the money that i make me put in cable is this the

[64:38]nine in my hand ounce in my crotch song no is that this song or not is it this one no that's

[64:45]y'all scared right i don't know i think this is it maybe it's this one because this is the one

[64:49]that was yeah recorded early it's yeah this is the one that was originally recorded for their

[64:53]first album my favorite line on this one is he says he's got chade in his tape deck

[64:57]so you know you know anybody who's listening to chade is good with me but is it slowed down

[65:03]aaron's like i wish i had a cassette tape i love rewinding those with pencils yeah i think the

[65:08]song started off where he said like the day i was born like 1985 or whatever why do so many

[65:12]rap songs start with like the day they were born it's it's there's tons of them out there right

[65:17]like biggie had multiple songs where he's like i was born on this day and my mama said this like

[65:22]why does why do so many hip-hop songs start with the day you were born life begins for them and

[65:27]what would your guys other than matt's mom about the whole umbilical cord situation what would your

[65:31]guys moms have said about the day you were born man i've never asked my mom about the day i was

[65:37]born he had a headache and he had to go to the we we know that we have not recorded in a long time

[65:44]because we're already at an hour 30 and we're talking about further stories i'll tell you what

[65:49]talk to with each other right believe it or not i was like a month and a half premature my family

[65:54]did not know i was coming so they had no crib set up they had nothing set up and when i came out the

[65:58]doctors were like he may never get to a normal size he might be small the rest of his life

[66:04]you maintain their expectations in one part of life

[66:07]every other every other you made which also is a crazy thing for a doctor to say there's no

[66:13]evidence that that's the case that's right outlandish claim for a doctor to make at the

[66:18]moment of birth they have no there's nothing that would have backed them up that's garbage

[66:21]to be fair right after that the doctor did say okay you have some pain so i'm gonna put my two

[66:26]fingers right over that hover it just hover it all right so now we have the art of storytelling

[66:37]this is kind of filthy this is where i remember outcast when we were in college i don't remember

[66:43]that being as filthy this is kind of filthy song isn't it oh they get into it yeah that's the thing

[66:47]is like yeah we thought of them well they like they seem like oh i don't want to say this

[66:52]but they seem like you know sort of like friendly like the kind of rap that you could like play in

[66:58]front of your family like you think of them that way right but i couldn't play this album in the

[67:01]house my son kept saying like what dad what are they talking about like you can't do it there's

[67:05]there's some raunchy stuff in here the art of storytelling is kind of filthy this is kind of

[67:07]art of storytelling too this one he says he he's doing he's like what if this was the last song

[67:13]ever recorded on earth and i was like you are so high thinking about that

[67:18]it's a little more engineered than some of the other stuff but it sticks out but i enjoyed it

[67:37]but the real reason i liked it is i love where it's part one and part two and it made me start

[67:43]thinking about sequels and it turns out what is your guy's favorite what is your guy's favorite

[67:48]sequel movie ever what's the greatest sequel ever in the history of movies easy godfather 2 godfather

[67:55]2 yeah godfather 2 terminator 2 terminator 2 is a way better movie godfather 2 rob terminator 2

[68:01]was the biggest movie of the summer it turns out that was released in july of 1991 we have a 30

[68:07]year anniversary of terminator 2 coming out and so in honor of terminator 2 and sequels i thought

[68:13]we could do a list of the greatest part two or sequel songs of all time we do that list

[68:19]so part of this list there's a lot of sequel songs out there where they may reference the same characters

[68:37]in the song or some but this list you have to say some sort of two or part two there's got to be a

[68:43]reference to this being a sequel otherwise it didn't make the list so the first song we're

[68:48]going to do is alicia key's empire state of mind part two this is the the sequel to the song with

[69:07]what version did you guys like better the jay-z one or just the alicia keys one

[69:12]it's hard to beat anything with the jay-z verse but this is so jay-z has a good element so

[69:18]i've never thought about either one of these songs in my life oh i thought i thought that

[69:23]would be right up your ass alley so we'll just move it along then wait the next one is that was

[69:27]with my alias i don't know rob's a new york guy and he had nothing to say so we'll just move it

[69:32]along to transport i mean if that's your number one new york song i'm kind of like you know no

[69:36]that's number five well i don't know i don't know if that's your number one new york song i'm kind of

[69:37]oh okay well that's the number five sequel technically you piece of shit rob at least

[69:43]i try to sell your jokes every goddamn week you can't sell the next one is a team player the next

[69:49]one is pink floyd another brick in the wall part two check this one out another brick in the wall

[69:54]part two this is like the fourth one i don't know this had a part two either this is part two wait

[70:01]there's a part one or part three but this is the one you know i don't know this is more like a

[70:07]this is more like when you get a second thing in the cracker jacks it's a reprise isn't it i mean it's

[70:11]it's not part two like if part if terminator part two was just the same exact movie but like a

[70:18]different drum in the background you'd be like well that's not really a part two well this list

[70:22]has gone to hell in a handbasket real quick next song up on the list is my favorite band this is

[70:28]metallica unforgiven to anyone know this one

[70:31]is this awesome good one this is

[70:37]i'm sorry this is not as good as the original i didn't say it was as good as the original

[70:49]this is them going into their next level and i appreciate this song i gotta say when they're

[70:54]call it unforgiven too and then in the song they also say you're unforgiven t-o-o it's pretty

[71:00]clever i gotta give it to him for that it's like a portmandeau or something portmandeau ramey for a

[71:07]song all right you guys are shitting on everything so i'm gonna bring this back

[71:11]aaron will like something aaron the next one is uh method man and red man i believe these guys

[71:17]were part of the wu-tang clan aaron am i correct uh method was and then red man's like an affiliate

[71:21]yeah yeah m-e-t-h-e-o-d man so method man and red man had a song called how high and then they also

[71:28]had one called how it was just called part two but it is the sequel to how high which is the

[71:33]the hit from the movie check out this one that's a bad red man this is

[71:37]he's like and then i'll take a longer hotter wire and i'll stick it farther up your ass like it's

[71:57]just part two all right the last part two song on the list by the way if you haven't

[72:03]listened to wu-tang you will not get that joke but i swear to god it's good

[72:07]the last song at least if if i've lost you guys on the other four at least aaron will be on

[72:12]on my side on this one this is the roots the seed 2.0 and so i figured 2.0

[72:18]joe so this is cody chestnut i believe he's the guitar the hot dog aaron yeah correct me if i'm

[72:26]wrong but joey chestnut the guy who ate all the hot dogs he's good wait no he was he had 122 hot

[72:33]dogs in an hour but he also stole my song on the guitar and they read

[72:37]this song no it's not the same guy this is joey chestnut he's the hot dog and plays a guitar

[72:42]this guy is unbelievable this is joey chestnut the guy it's not joey chestnut god damn they're

[72:49]retooling it for the roots the seed 2.0 let's play it let's let it roll let's let it roll

[72:55]you know you can hear him eating hot dogs in the background too he's cody chestnut

[73:01]have some respect do you hear that let the music play rosie don't interrupt

[73:06]me

[73:07]i hear him eating hot dogs

[73:08]this song i love this song i bought cody chestnut's album based on this song alone

[73:17]the headphone i saw joey chestnuts chestnuts record out there when he ate the most hot dogs

[73:22]to the headphone masterpiece because it has some great tracks not just this one he recorded the

[73:27]whole thing in his bedroom sly stone style i'm right aaron he does have a record he ate so many

[73:32]hot dogs he has a record oh my god 10 years straight

[73:37]it's so good aaron i every every year he sets the record they call it like joey chestnut 2.0

[73:43]joey chestnut 3.0 joey just have 4.0 he's out that really combines everything aaron loves of music

[73:51]and eating stuff that's joey chestnut aaron's favorite guitar player on the roots

[73:56]aaron is that an amazing 2.0 though it's kind of it's not a cover but it's kind of a retool

[74:02]they revamped it that's an amazing 2.0 it's incredible yeah yeah no they they they polished

[74:06]up the sound they made the drums louder black thought guy has those great verses in there no

[74:11]it's perfect and then you still get cody chestnut on the on the hook i specifically kept that part

[74:17]in for you because i was like this is the guy who came up with the song he needs to be highlighted

[74:21]and that was the guy who we played am i right yes we did you played cody chestnut that is

[74:26]beautiful that is one of my favorite the fact that joey chestnut puts those buns in the water

[74:31]before he eats it i mean that's so crazy i mean when i think water buns it makes me kind of quit

[74:36]water this is the closest aaron's ever been to quitting i'm a race car running on red

[74:40]yeah really mad at rob like five episodes ago but nope this is it this is this is the moment

[74:49]so that was that was my attempt at the list of the greatest part two or the greatest songs ever

[74:55]also i realized we need to have a soundbite to go out of your list because the lists always just

[75:00]are so good and then we just kind of move on but i need a soundbite i don't have a that's it for

[75:04]russell's list for aaron's favorite guitar player joey chestnut we are going to do the water bun

[75:08]corner

[75:09]oh yeah i came into this with full faith and credit aaron this was not my fault

[75:22]i specifically put two that i thought you would like at the end and rob hijacked

[75:26]i like that list i thought it was really good and i can't wait for your second list at the

[75:31]end of this podcast part two

[75:34]huh i'm paying attention mamacita mamacita

[75:37]apparently they were recording this song with some other group

[75:42]and dray walked in and was like i like this song it's gonna be on our album now they're like okay

[75:47]who is this you know i look it up people i mean what do you want from us

[75:54]important question about mamacita is russell have you used the stouffer's lasagna line on any of your

[75:59]dates what tell us what the stouffer's lasagna line is

[76:04]well the only line i was going to use on my dates i was going to save this for the end but i'll just

[76:09]save it now but the line of you're the candy apple of my eye you're about to get bit has not worked

[76:15]on my dating apps is the lasagna line like oh sorry it smells so much like cheese no he literally

[76:20]says something like uh i was i was gonna write it down so i could do it but he said it's it's it's uh

[76:26]one of the guest rappers on that one he says something like got your favorite stouffer's

[76:30]lasagna like he's literally telling her like in the microwave got your favorite stouffer's lasagna

[76:34]lasagna we gotta are you fucking serious you you stopped me from playing spodioditydopalicious

[76:39]and i gotta keep in this bit because my joke that i did was so good to talk about how he just

[76:44]mentioned stouffer's lasagna and that's the that's his clever lyric is he just mentions

[76:48]literally he tells his date that in the microwave he has her favorite stouffer's lasagna like that's

[76:53]his that's his clinching line he's like i got your and your point is that he shouldn't have

[76:58]a microwave because of chemtrails my point is that russell needs to use this line on his dates

[77:02]that's my point

[77:04]what happens when she goes home and russell's freezer is full of stouffer's lasagna that's all

[77:08]he has and the worst is when i don't have a microwave because i took aaron's advice yeah

[77:13]it's just like well how are we going to cook these i'm like i don't know it takes like an

[77:16]hour and a half to cook let me tell you and he has three blenders because we all got on one for

[77:20]christmas we all fucked up spodioditydopalicious all right andre 3000 said he was obsessed with

[77:26]reggae for this matt shut up let me talk about the song so here's the thing see i'm spreading

[77:29]around aaron spreading around rosie it's about to get real it's moved over to me i feel really bad

[77:34]man i'm sorry man i was i was so looking forward to this song hit the music bro hit the music i

[77:40]thought matt i was so about this one no i was so looking forward to this because matt showed us

[77:45]this song months ago about horns so matt i was so looking forward to this i loved it because you

[77:51]told us about this is this the first one that we've had from a list to also be on the actual list

[77:57]maybe wow yeah matt why do you like this so much it's fantastic why do you like it personally i

[78:04]don't i'm not a big new york rap fan i'm not a big uh west coast rap fan like i i like rap as a

[78:13]genre if you will but this it it incorporates a whole bunch of instruments into the song right i

[78:20]think this is the culmination of outcast songs this is my favorite outcast song that is out there

[78:27]and i think you you uh go to idle wild what they've released in 2006 you know and they tried to release

[78:34]along with this album in 1998 and producers or somebody tried to put like uh i don't know a couple

[78:41]other art they basically cut outcast out of the movie and said we're going to do this with buster

[78:45]rhymes and wait till here's this episode like heartbroken and they said no we're not going to

[78:50]do this but then they ended up getting their movie in 2006 right and so i don't know i i just think

[78:55]that this encompasses everything that i like about rap you know it doesn't have to be all about just

[79:04]the musicality of all of it and so that's why i like this this song is the culmination of it

[79:09]and you add trumpets to anything and it's great my opinion loved it that's what russell's that's

[79:15]why russell had a trumpet in the car with me you know hey rob you hit all the keys in the car you

[79:23]you have you should have confidence right now you hit all the keys on that trumpet

[79:26]they're valves they're not keys i don't want to embarrass you but they're valves

[79:29]you're all scared you guys are all scared of my

[79:33]music

[79:34]i was playing this one yesterday morning and my my son literally said

[79:41]dad this music makes me feel kind of scared and i was like oh god i gotta i gotta turn this off

[79:46]this is what i cannot listen to and then he's like you know what's scary fucking

[79:50]chemtrails can i tell you about this guy i voted for he's got a lot of good ideas

[79:54]okay and you know what aaron's son said what the fuck dad chemtrails are totally fake i learned

[80:00]that's why you are the lead host of this podcast rob

[80:04]we've got i'm gonna skip over nathaniel because it's it's one of the skits i did not i gotta say

[80:09]i am liking this album the more and more i'm hearing you guys try to convince me of it

[80:13]i the skits on this though are can we just agree that this might have killed skits and

[80:16]forever it feels like they weren't even trying right like the skit about buying weed and the

[80:22]weed's too expensive and i'm not gonna smoke that weed that was a weird one like i didn't i didn't

[80:26]quite get it and it wasn't mixed very well i could barely hear what they were saying but again my

[80:30]dad's car is all base it was what kind of car does your dad have

[80:34]oh he he drives to various base contests he has a car set up just for his base speakers in the back

[80:40]i don't know no big deal yeah my dad also was in uh a tribe called quest liberation

[80:47]this is the one with the piano for the whole song this is like the nine minute piano song

[80:53]yeah this is the extended uh jam for sure i i really like this song it went on for a while

[80:59]but it kind of felt like if you were just chilling do like a jazz band or something

[81:04]neo soul relaxing you guys like it or not coming for sure

[81:08]yeah and it does so i think is this the one that erica badu sings on yes yes it is yeah you're

[81:17]right so it's interesting i didn't make this connection until we were talking tonight but

[81:21]um you know jay dilla who ended up influencing a lot of the sound on voodoo and later produced

[81:28]some of erica badu stuff this is maybe early for them to have run into dilla but i i to me i hear

[81:34]that real laid back drums behind the beat kind of kind of sound on a lot of this album and i wonder

[81:41]if via erica badu or maybe it's the reggae thing that they that they picked that up because this

[81:46]sounds to me like a lot like the whole idea of this album reminds me of voodoo just like hanging

[81:52]out in the studio see what happens you know erica badu was also hanging around when voodoo was made

[81:57]that's a brilliant way to think about it that's brilliant aaron wait are you no i'm not gonna tell

[82:03]a joke god keep fucking talking

[82:04]so yeah this to me like it's that similar vibe of like let's get the musicians there let's see

[82:10]what happens and there are these moments where they're really playing with time and laying back

[82:14]behind the beat and it whether it's dilla's influence or not that's that's how it kind of

[82:18]sounds to me and you never hear his name mentioned with outcast but would you say the beats are

[82:22]dragging there yeah maybe dragging your nuts on my face oh no not your nuts on my face oh no

[82:27]or you know what maybe aaron actually i'm not gonna say no okay so let's think about it after my date

[82:34]with russ i'm down for anything all right next one is a something i did do sophomore year of college

[82:39]uh chonky fire

[82:40]matt what matt you're an outcast fan what do you think is this the end of the album i thought it

[82:48]was pretty badass there's a skin at the end but what do you think of this as the closer

[82:51]well again i think they're doing a little bit more experimental songs they're kind of moving

[82:58]away from what they were doing they're they're letting their wings uh flap a little bit and so

[83:03]i like it you know i mean anything anytime you just start you've got an artist who is trying to

[83:09]grow as an artist i think it it uh it helps um some people they fall if you will you know they

[83:15]they don't do well with what happens is you know they're they should just stick with what's good

[83:21]you know i think of metal uh 80s hair bands if you will you know a lot of them didn't move on

[83:26]metallic have you ever heard like that we brought a kiss oh my god it's so good yeah oh you know but

[83:31]i think they're they're doing a lot of experimenting

[83:33]they're true artists they're moving on they're they're experimenting with what they've got and

[83:37]and so i like it i think you know it's not like a this is a top ender of all time but you know it's

[83:44]it's uh it's a good song and you can like i said there you can definitely hear the guitars and it's

[83:49]going to lead into their next album it's it's pretty brilliant the way they set it up actually

[83:52]because their next album is pretty heavy on the guitars i'm just repeating what i said because i

[83:56]sound so smart all right let's get into every well i think i think technically you're just

[84:01]repeating what wikipedia said

[84:03]oh right shots fired and it might be genius.com not sure all right let's get into everybody's

[84:09]favorite and very sorry rob don't hate me guys this is everybody's patented and favorite section

[84:14]the rating system i still don't know the rating system i'll explain to you you know what this

[84:22]time i'll slow down i listened to a bunch of old episodes for greatest hits before and i still

[84:28]don't understand the rating system oh yeah and speaking of that i am sorry by the way

[84:33]the best of i decided none of the clips were that good i did just do a two-hour monologue right i got

[84:38]some things off my chest i didn't send it to you guys for edits there's some really great uh views

[84:42]i have in there a lot of stuff about microwaves and chemtrails i think you guys are gonna love it

[84:46]so thank you for letting me do that and for agreeing with everything i said without listening

[84:50]to it and after this episode you're like wait a minute we did just let rob release it without

[84:53]listening to it first maybe that was a huge mistake all right so our rating system is this

[84:58]is this this is 49th on our list is this album aquemini and i did have to pause the video for a

[85:03]little bit is that rolling well toned that means it's perfect at 49 you know what 49 we love you

[85:09]49 get in the back of the car with me is this a rolling boned oh just save that for the back of

[85:15]the car one um that means that this should be way higher than 49 guys this is our first like

[85:21]southern rap album this should be way higher than 49 it should be up at 48 47 now i did recently go

[85:28]to the rolling stones website and i will say as the list goes down you are also scrolling down

[85:33]okay so the higher number is at the top like most lists so again if this got rolling boned it should

[85:39]be toward the top of the page the scroll wheel is not getting used as hard unless you're a page

[85:44]down guy and if you are i salute you sir or is this a rolling scroll okay this should not be at

[85:51]49 this should be at 50 and i'll tell you what pretty soon you're gonna have to go to a different

[85:56]page on the list because again i was scanning this list on rollingstone.com probably the greatest

[86:00]website of all time uh so is it a rolling well toned list or is it a rolling well toned list

[86:03]rolling boned or rolling grown i think i know what two of you are going to say matt what do you

[86:08]think i think this got rolling boned i think it should be way higher uh personally uh you know

[86:15]and again we we talk about these lists and a lot of times it comes down to uh genres if you will

[86:21]um but in terms of uh rap artists rap groups rap the genre i think outcast for me personally

[86:30]again talking to me personally is is about

[86:33]as top as it gets um you know they experiment i'm reading wikipedia here you know they're

[86:39]experimenting with relaxed hyper distorted speedy conversational presentations and their copyright

[86:45]that's fine their lyrics un it's just it it just unbelievable to me how they use them um within the

[86:51]songs within the instruments that they use and so i to me outcast is the top of the heap when it

[86:57]comes to the rap genre so i think they got rolling boned rosie what do you think

[87:03]yeah rolling bone is what matt said and that means that it should be higher on the list

[87:06]or on the website aaron because i know you're a website freak is it get rolling boned did it get

[87:12]is it a rolling grown it should be on a whole different page you're gonna have to push go down

[87:15]to the bottom there's a link that says uh 51 through 100 you want to click that it's going

[87:19]to take you to the next page and then guess what scrolling down again but this would actually be

[87:22]at the top of the second page or is it a rolling well toned it's perfect the albums that this one

[87:28]brings to mind for me are voodoo as i said

[87:33]uh the chronic so just staying staying in the in the hip-hop you know sort of hip-hop

[87:39]neo-soul r&b genre and i don't see how it could be this far below either of those so to me it

[87:47]doesn't make sense for it to be where it's at but i do think there are maybe a couple of filler

[87:51]tracks on here although um i also was thinking of uh i was thinking as i was listening i was

[87:57]thinking of nevermind where the you know nevermind's at what number six on this list and

[88:03]um i think given the don't forget thriller lyricism don't even oh man don't get me started

[88:10]thank you rob that helps i think given the the lyricism and the breadth of musicality

[88:16]and the the multiple styles they're integrating and the fact that it just

[88:19]sounds great and you i love to listen to it i'm gonna agree with matt and say it's rolling boned

[88:24]russell what do you think rolling well toned rolling boned or rolling

[88:28]grown what was the grown sound no no no no no no

[88:33]this this podcast has been going so long that aaron is listening to one airpod at a time to

[88:37]charge one at a time i saw him doing that classic that's how that's how i that's how i do it that's

[88:41]true i loved five or six songs this album slump is kind of one of my new favorite songs i never

[88:49]heard in a buggy marsh barely motionless more presence united states of america coming in

[88:54]so slump was one of my new favorite songs that i've heard like that that's how my

[89:03]new favorite songs that i've heard like that that's how my new favorite songs that i've heard

[89:03]that's how my new favorite songs that i've heard like that that's how my new favorite songs that i've heard

[89:04]would have never listened to or i wouldn't have known if it weren't for this quest so i love this

[89:08]song i love so many songs in this i gotta be honest though it feels to me like every song in this album

[89:14]was two minutes too long whether it's a skit or a chorus that went on forever and ever and when you

[89:20]really get to the second half of the album there's a lot of like six seven eight minute songs this

[89:24]was the first time like an album where i really liked it where i kept skipping ahead on songs i

[89:30]would i would hit like the four minute of a song like i can't do anymore

[89:33]i'm skipping ahead and so for me it it it was kind of a dichotomy of i i love the music but it

[89:39]just went it was like baseball i love baseball but baseball is way too long it's too boring

[89:44]there's a bit of this outcast album where i thought it should have been 20 minutes shorter so

[89:48]for me as much as i love it it's the first time where i was skipping songs so i'm going to say

[89:53]rolling groan but i do love the music i would recommend passing piranhas passing piranhas

[89:58]please don't interrupt me uh i would i would
