EMERGENCY EPISODE: Rolling Stone made a new list!
[0:00]Warning this is an emergency transmission this is an emergency meeting discuss some very big news man your battle stations russ make a new list aaron find some weird ass bands that nobody's ever heard of matt i don't know what you do here dive into this new list this is time for beck did it better when you want to hear about the greatest albums of all time but you're just too lazy to look it up online if you want to hear from guys who chat and then they get off track i've got the perfect podcast for you jack beck did it better this is not a drill this is an emergency announcement the rolling stone magazine has come out today with a new top 500 list warning today all the
[1:00]Episodes you did are now worthless this is a good example of how things in life are constantly changing and how you need to enjoy things while they last there's only three things in life that do not change and they are my co-hosts let's say hi to everybody we got russ in minnesota russ how are you doing rob with every mistake we make on this podcast surely we must be learning still my microphone gently weeps russ that's in the 30s somewhere matt how are you doing matt in minnesota or somewhere i don't know matt minneapolis how are you doing i'm doing okay now this morning was rough i got the text message about 30 minutes after this list came out you mean the siren sirens yes when i yeah i'm not gonna lie it was rough and we can get into that later but i'm doing okay now thanks for yeah and i think the worst part is right is when you turn to your spouse you go holy shit rolling stone change your list they go oh that's great honey that's very nice and you're like no you don't understand like anybody i tried to talk to about this they were like okay and i was like yeah no this is a huge deal we need to have a meeting about this
[2:00]Like okay sweetie this sounds great rosie out in oak town how are you doing i'm i'm doing great i'm very excited it has been since i understood what a podcast was about a year ago it has been a dream of mine to be a part of a emergency pod and here i am on an emergency pod i'm stoked this is an emergency all right and i'm gonna keep that siren on there forever so anything i do mention before we do anything else i do want to just say real quick russ how many albums on the list on and we're gonna call it the old list from now on how many albums on the 2002 rolling stones list have you listened to to this point i am at about 196 right now i'm just under 200 matt how about you i just got through number 235 which was 62 songs by patsy cline now some of which were written by how many of those patsy cline songs were super funny and fun
[3:00]And talking about how great her life was i will tell you this though number 236 is mr excitement on the old list mr excitement by jackie wilson which is 72 songs by jackie wilson so this jeez this change did this did help me avoid that so did jackie wilson write 72 songs i would have said absolutely not how is that probably didn't i don't think he did write 72 songs and in fact willie nelson wrote some of patsy cline songs oh my god i did note today real quick i did note today that there are 31 albums that i've listened to that i may be did not need to listen to if we don't proceed with the old list okay well that we can't talk about all this depressing stuff here guys we got to talk about this is an exciting change it's not definitely a waste of our time we are not wasting our life by doing this just because we're the only three who keeps downloading this podcast we other this is going to be a huge deal and honestly this could be
[4:00]The thing that has the podcast take off rosie how many albums on this list have you listened to that's don't lie to me just admit it you've listened like 12 have a difficult question to answer i'm the dad i'm the dad of this podcast don't lie to me russell and i went we started at one and we've been going up the list and keeping track and my my sense is rosie that you've taken a little bit of liberties with kind of going through the list which is fine if liberty is a parliament album then you're totally right i mean i i'm familiar with many of the albums on the list but i have listened to as many as we have more about all these albums no matter how many times you listen to them because i have multiple degrees in music i think we're gonna get that emerson guy on the pod you sound like when i was getting my master's when i was getting my master's online you had to do those discussions and it'd be like i think we need to really define what the term listen to
[5:00]Me before we start this like just trying to hit that word count and reply to people so you weren't really listening in order though you were just kind of bipping and bopping here and there i was yeah bipping and bopping a little bit i mean i was being prepared for this podcast every time we recorded and then i got distracted here and there so but you weren't listening like one you haven't listened to like one or two albums you haven't listened to like one or two albums in a row not in a row no smart man all right that's dog shit i would say of the top 50 i have listened to probably 30 of them at points in my life aaron you sound just like my students when they don't turn something in aaron admit it right now did you listen to the seven hours of james brown or not no i didn't know i didn't do that piece of shit this has never come up on this that's like the opposite of james brown collection is the opposite of the patsy klein collection he feels good patsy klein six hours of ray charles and western oh my god i saw somebody on twitter today say i can't believe that the ray charles western album is off it's on that was on
[6:00]Or that it got dropped oh gotcha okay and i was like are you serious that's the album you're mad about in this whole thing like that was the shittiest album i listened to and thanks for asking i listened to about 150 albums with the modern tunes and country western music people were mad about that one yeah that it got dropped and i was like that album was to get through it took me forever just that was one where i was like of all the things to care about why would you care about this ray charles country album that nobody even knew existed except for this one twitter was wild today twitter is wild now today big time about this list and mostly because i was trying to get people to listen to the pod it was a major pimp the pod day and it was almost more sad because i'd like engage them in a conversation i'd be like well actually my co-host on my podcast like subtly try to put it in there it was i did feel like i was online dating i was like well you know i'm not going to do that i'm not going to do if you want to listen to a podcast about it i you'll notice my username is beck did it better so let's get into a voicemail real quick let's before we get to this
[7:00]Breaking news that we obviously have so much to say hey it's krista from minneapolis wrestle that krista not kristin maybe that's part of your part with the dating situation or your problem i'd like to say that i appreciated the reference to back to the future in your voicemail there i just am catching up on some podcasts i've been back at work at school so i've been a little busy and i just want to say that i am completely appalled and shocked that it took rob that long in the jazz flute discussion to say skin flute that is it thank you i can do better i will do better the best part is we did notice rob was slipping after rob himself noticed he was slipping after the last episode i will say i did text the group we we have a we
[8:00]Have an episode that has not been released yet where rosie reverence is both a plumbing snake that he has in his garage and a trombone and i did not make a penis joke at any time it's not rusty it's not rusty yet i i need to do better with that okay i cannot shy away get so much in my head about you know big bopper being a pervert that sometimes i lose focus of the real easy joke that's right on the table sometimes you know i don't have to hit a home run every time i can make a penis joke that's just a double and i think that's fine you know what i think that helps out the team just get on base i mean if you're byron buxton all you're hitting is doubles and homers that's right wait 15 30 hits and 15 of them are homers or doubles as of this weekend what today this morning when they set this list was the first time i thought well maybe it's it would be better if i were just a sports fan instead of trying to be a music fan this was the first time where i was like i would take more enjoyment watching the vikings get shellacked as opposed to trying to figure out
[9:00]Do i have to keep listening to the white album or now am i moving on but we're here together to figure this out as vikings fans i think this is our captain beefheart season i listen i listened captain beefheart for you guys so i want you to know that i don't so let me send this out to christopher real quick for not making that skin flute joke and now an apology from beck did it better i'd like to take this chance to apologize all right so that goes out to kirsten thank you so much for calling in we do appreciate the call thanks kristin thanks charlie and thank you kirsten that's great we appreciate you also to rob i i do use that soundbite when i do forget my dates name and they call me on it at dinner i usually just bust that out on my phone that's yeah that's good hey i'm on this podcast here's here's your apology that would be tough remembering names on
[10:00]Online date i think that would be tough i work with a number of people that i've worked for now for a couple years i still don't know their names and i talk to them once a week and it's at that point where i'm like oh god i cannot but that's when i do that oh what's your name and they're like and i'm like no your first name and that doesn't work either that's not a good don't do that it's a very bad strategy all right so we are off the rails already let me check my notes about what's going to do this cannot be a two-hour episode tonight guys okay we have no album to talk about all we're talking about the list we cannot take that long to do it so let's get into rolling going how is it going i will tell you right now i have absolutely nothing to talk about i spent my day today on instagram and twitter promoting the podcast it was depressing but i do feel like if anybody's talking about the rolling stones list and a podcast that goes with it now is the time so and my strategy was literally just to agree with everybody and be like oh man that's a great point and just hope that like it pretty much was actually like me dating where i just be like you're so right so that was me on twitter today matt rolling going how's it going it's going
[11:00]Pretty good i i'm with you i spent my eight hour work day and i got nothing done oh no i think i yelled at my kids a couple times to leave me alone because i had to work on this list and it's kind of getting into the pathetic range and i realized that so spend a little extra time with the kids tomorrow i yelled at my mom this morning oh so sorry mom i got a little short with you it just i can't believe they cut pearl jam mom this is the new list god you understand i'm gonna go to my room and cry i'm the only one in this team who knows how to use an excel spreadsheet all right and this rolling stone website suck the farther i get away from this the more pathetic it all sounds and so i'm trying to get a little that we you know we've got we get the privilege to talk to each other weekly sometimes more than that we we text and talk way more than people know pleasure to hang out with you guys and talk
[12:00]About this stuff but i'm not lying this really shook me and i was so pissed at russell for suggesting this and then just like an absolute i spent a half hour this morning like i said the next album was mr excitement it's not in amazon music there's 72 songs i i was on like song like eight of putting into a playlist so i could just listen to it oh my god and i i was so pissed when it said so i'm doing a lot better it's rolling going a lot better now than this morning wow thanks for asking yeah and just to let you guys know along with the new list i have found three new co-hosts and they also have fans that they'll bring in and because they're not scared to use their last name on podcasts i'm hoping that's going to that's a very beyonce move of you rob she did that to destiny's child on trl so you who and she is now what twice in the top 50 so you did very beyonce i wish people would stop comparing me to beyonce that's a little close to home our listeners need to know that rob may or may not have proposed via
[13:00]Text messages that we have a guest host on a future album and i don't know if it went over well with the whole team it went over well with aaron because he just wants more people to talk music with but this might be our yoko ono moment like there's a point in the beatles where she starts sitting in on their recording sessions and it all goes to hell white album i will say this when we started this like i've tried to do so many creative endeavors with people and i'm going to get serious with you guys right now i've done so many creative endeavors with you guys i've tried to do so many creative endeavors like you know i try to start things with people or just like and it is so hard to find people who won't just flake all the time like it's the it's almost impossible to find people who won't flake out here and there and you guys it's unbelievable every week we text we're like when can we do it we're all like any night is fine we can do it any night any time oh can you guys make this list yes i will make the list i will do this like it's just unbelievable how great this has been working with you guys we just have to schedule around aaron's feet period we're good to go yeah i say last week that my feet look like a block of parmesan cheese you
[14:00]Guys freak out aaron texts us a picture of what he's doing to his feet you guys are like oh this is cool okay and i'm like saving it and zooming in and like okay making it my background like i was like that's a huge mistake text me a picture of your feet i did that's totally my actual result of like attractive people can get away with certain things that unattractive oh yeah people can't get away with no offense rob but it's it's it's you know people can just get away with different stuff what i know i well that's the thing right is i dare you russell next time you go on a date talk about your foot care regime and see how long that date lasts i want you to set like she'll be like oh i'm why do you have a timer why did you just start it like you have an old stopwatch i'm pretty sure that's why christina or whoever left that voicemail stopped seeing me a while back you guys act like i haven't been married for 13 years like i'm just like hanging my feet out the window of my moving car there's like people following behind that's not how it's going around here you did text us after that you go yeah my wife's a real foot freak too
[15:00]And you know what i think having a foot fetish is totally normal and not weird okay so calling your wife a foot freak is is irresponsible aaron a rolling going how's it going it's going good as i've said multiple times i'm really excited to be on an emergency pod it's been a dream of mine i'm very excited about the new list this is very different than normal pods way to aim high yeah we will we'll discuss how i feel about the new list but i'm very excited but matt i'm gonna pump you up a little bit here because i spent also i spent most of the day today trying to scrape this damn list off of the rolling stones rolling stone website and i was trying to i wrote i tried to write it down and i was like i'm gonna do it i'm gonna do it i'm gonna write a script to pull down the html and parse it and i found that the list was somewhere in like some json table and i was gonna have to write like a loop to go over this five times ten times to get all and then json table i was only close to getting it done when at like 4 p.m pacific
[16:00]Like matt just slid into my email with like a smooth like here's your list like fully parsed out in a nice neat data table so matt like you win the prize today for sure for making a new frame of this list slip erin it's important can i put in something i can edit in earlier yeah sure push that 15 second forward button all right and that was oh no wait i should say push that 15 second forward button unless you love excel tables or talking about script i'm sorry and that was extraordinary i'm gonna edit that out excel is awesome i love it but i gotta say kudos to matt because he figured that out regardless of whether the list stays or goes or how it happens rob will continue to be extremely inappropriate and rude so so the life goes on something's done but he respects women so it's okay oh i'm the one people i'm the one person here who works with children that mustache just says talk here we go so rosie what did you how is it going i
[17:00]Guess i wasn't listening i was thinking of a joke the whole time that's my bad i mean it's going good i'm excited but i was disappointed in myself that i spent all day trying to put the list into a nice neat data frame and then matt beat me so i was shaken today because i really i was like okay i'm gonna plan some of my lessons i'm gonna grade some stuff and i'm gonna work out i did nothing in the afternoon i just was on twitter like trying to get going and then i you guys saw i was late getting ready for this like it really like messed up my head i was the person there's there are very few people who care more about this list than the four of us russ rolling going how's it going rolling going I was the first one to learn about this morning one of our dedicated listeners sent me a text message saying hey did you see the new list i was like what we we were having an internal discussion we're going to take our listeners behind the scenes but we were having a discussion about whether we would do the white album in one or two listens and i
[18:00]Was actually looking at the list because my opinion on that was going to matter on who was coming up next if it was someone i was looking forward to listen to i was going to say let's just do one and move on it was someone i didn't want to listen to i was going to say split it up and all of a sudden i get this text and i think for a minute like do i need do i text the guys do i just go in and do i roll and go in and drop it on you right here but it's been kind of a crazy day for all of us right and one thing that i've had a hard time coming to grips with being on this podcast and when something like this happens i'll tie it back to my dating world so i might need to some advice on how do i handle handling something like this so maybe i need to go to the corner i'm ready get to the corner it's time for russell's advice corner oh yeah all right get in that corner i'm in the corner so one thing you guys have always told me in in your brilliant advice before is i should never bring up the podcast on the app
[19:00]No never bring up the podcast on a date no so at what point if i am dating someone can i ever bring up the podcast this is the biggest development of my week was that i'm not going to be able to was that, hey, this list blew up. But if I were to go out with someone, say, a few days from now, I can't, and she asks, hey, what was the biggest part of your week? I can't even tell her. Can you imagine, though, Russell, like being, like, well, Rolling Stone changed its top 500 albums list. Oh, okay, why is that a big deal to you? Well, it was a text chain, and then we started a podcast. And now we actually mostly talk about foot care on the podcast, but it is about music. There are some trailers if you want to listen to it. Meanwhile, you just see, like, a smoke shadow. Me forgetting Karen's name would be the least of my problems. So my question is, is at what point in seeing someone, you guys have told me I can never bring this up, do I just have to, like, take this to my grave? And if I ever meet someone and it leads to something, do I just quit the podcast?
[20:00]Do I never tell her about it and just act like I'm always doing a Zoom happy hour? Because right now I tell someone if I go out with them, what am I looking forward to this week? I often tell them that I have a Zoom happy hour. I have a Zoom happy hour with my buddies at a certain time, and I'm looking forward to that. But I don't say that it relates to the podcast. So at what point in seeing someone is it okay for me to bring up the fact that I am on an award-winning podcast where the whole point of our podcast just got flipped upside down? What's the minimum amount of time that any of the other co-hosts have been married? I've been married 13 years. Rob's been married longer. Matt, what are you at? I got 12 this week. Okay, so congratulations. I got 12 this week, yeah. So 12 years of marriage is the minimum number for you to tell your beloved about this podcast. Wait, Aaron, does your wife know you do this? 12 was the minimum, so I just told her on our 13th anniversary. Rob, we know your wife knows because she got mad at you about it once.
[21:00]Matt, does your wife know? What does she think of this? Oh, yeah, but she's tried to listen, but she's got something about white guys that are just talking to each other that is just completely she can't handle it. That's reasonable. That's a very reasonable take. And I say, hey different strokes for different folks. We've got tens of listeners that love to hear us talk, and so we've got a duty to make sure that we keep this thing going. If she doesn't want to support us, that's fine. Yeah, I agree with Matt. Fuck her. So here's the thing. I would say this, Russell. I would come at this in two ways. I would say, number one, okay, my first inclination was to say the moment right after you have sex with him. And I think in the five seconds after you first have coitus with a woman, I think to tell her that you have been doing a podcast, I think that's a great time. I think that would lead to a nice conversation. Or the other time would be at what point are you guys going to the bathroom in front of each other?
[22:00]I think at that point you know that anything you say cannot be ruining your relationship. So as soon as you are openly going to the bathroom in front of each other, which is a great relationship, killer, I think on so many levels and it happens so subtly you don't even notice it. That's my advice. Rob has just compared our podcast to taking a dump in front of a lady. So not a dump. That's gross. Rosie, what are you talking about? You're an animal. I know. I don't do that. All right. So Russell, great advice. You've gotten once again. Time's up. Get out of the corner. That was Russell's advice. Corner. Oh, yeah. No, I'm telling you when I mentioned this podcast to people, not. Not once have I gotten the response. I want to know what I just realized right now. This is the first time it dawned on me. Maybe I shouldn't be doing the podcast. Maybe that's going to be hindering me because now I just can't be about honest. But what I'm doing. Yeah, I don't know because I find it affects my life because like we'll be having a conversation with normal people and then I will bring up something that we talked about like 20 minutes
[23:00]Ago and I'm so proud of myself for making a call back. And I'm like, yeah, that was a great bit. I was like, this is not a bit. We were having a conversation on the podcast. I tried to latch on to like a running joke. And I keep bringing it up and I keep banging it home and you kind of mentioned hopefully you're not doing that on your dates and I realize like, no, that is probably part of my problem is like, oh, I find one thing that's funny and I just keep hammering the shit out of it. The umbrella woman who hit the old lady with the umbrella and you keep hammering it over and over. You're like, yeah, this is good. This is good content. We have a new list, right? This is going to be a real rough, a rough track when Aaron's literally the only one on our podcast who's heard of 33% of the artists. I, this is this shift has Aaron written all over it. If it was like, oh God, I'm trying to think of a band that he talked about. Like the goat. What was that one? Captain Oxtail. Yeah. Captain Oxtail. He'd be like, yes, finally. Give me my dog back is on the list. It's like, we're set. I don't think Cannibal Ox or slobber boner on the list, but we'll, we need to go take
[24:00]A look and see if slobber boats on the list. No, they're not. Yeah. We're off this episode. Go listen to that one that had slobber bone. Go search slobber bone. It's probably the only podcast that mentioned slobber, so it'd be easy to find Aaron. But I did go back and I listened to part of that album and I, I did add that one. I want my fucking dog back song to my playlist on Spotify. I'm glad to hear it. Very glad to hear it. Yeah. It's not that Aaron doesn't know stuff about music that he knows a shitload about music and it's always mind blowing. So they made this list in 2003, they updated it in 2012 a little bit. And then all of a sudden out of nowhere today we get the bomb dropped on us that they have not just updated the list, but they have blown up the list. There are 154 new albums out of 500 on this way less rock and roll, way more hip hop, way more modern music and pop to basically they ask Swift, like
[25:00]A lot more pop Harry styles. I can't believe it. Harry Styles. That came out like a two months ago, came out, I wonder in 2019 who's Harry styles instead of everybody be like, who the hell is Phil Spector and when we were all these old bands now we're like, who is Harry styles who are like, I honestly, there's something like D'Angelo. I could not sing to you one day and I could sing his entire catalog. See, this is now Rosie's hosting, D'Angelo. There's only three. There's too many. They are compared to the whole sphere of the world. I'm not ready to have this. Let's do it. Let's talk it out. So I do want to say this though. I do think we should honor, Matt and, Russ for listening to so many albums that did not matter. And in the now are totally pointless and really you have to start the list over. So I just want to do take five seconds to have a moment of silent for them. That was the worst possible time for that.
[26:00]All right, so the cheap laugh, so what is the overall tone of this new list? So we have a ton of, we have a ton. How do we want to even start this? I don't even know. Like it seems like I, when I was on Twitter today, everybody was complaining about the list and I said, no, the old list seemed like something that my uncle came up with. Now I don't have any uncles that actually know anything about like modern music or pop music at all, but it was like, that really was like an old white guy, uncle list before, right? Tons of Bruce Springsteen, tons of Bob Dylan, tons of Beatles way high up through 67. Yeah. I mean the top three albums span two years. Right. And all of a sudden on that list. Do you know who the top woman of color was on that list? Probably Aretha. Should've been her. Yeah. 84. Wow. 84. That was, wow. You're telling me that there were no women of color that made music that were above 84 all time. Like that's absolutely ridiculous. And in fact, the first woman on that list period was Nico at like 13 and then, Oh no. And they're part of bands. And all of a sudden it was, Oh, it was Joni Mitchell at like 18 and now she's up
[27:00]To three. Right. Yeah. And it's, it's just, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's not just white old white guys anymore. Right. Now it's, old people of every sex and, race, which is much better. I think it's more accurate representation. I do want to shout out though that eBay collection. Yeah. So there's a collection right now, 25 grand of vinyl, all 500 top 500 albums. Yeah. I'm going to cancel that check right now. This was a terrible decision by me last week. You're trombone out dirt. $20,000 insignificant record collection is not a $50 record player. Can you imagine that record collection has totally blown up? Like that guy is now out being like, Oh my God, where's this D'Angelo record? Like I got to find it. I mean, there's just a lot of shifting, but he has to buy 150 new pieces of vinyl. Russell, think about going into the record store for 150 new records and saying, I need
[28:00]This and I need this. I'd rather go out on 150 first dates and call a girl the wrong name than going to the record store. 150 times. No, you got to treat the record store like a date. Russell, you got to go in there, really just get used to it. Just bury yourself in there. And just really, I don't know why I use the word fairy when I'm talking about a date. Not good. You also had a really uncomfortable shoulder shift. When you did that, there was some sort of physical movement there. That was very uncomfortable. Shaq, a kitty cat gift. Yeah, that's exactly what it was. Rob. One thing you mentioned, you were kind of talking about like how there's more diversity in this list. But one thing I think is interesting is I think there were more than 300 people that voted on it. This includes a lot of musicians, but it's like Beyonce voted on this. Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Lars Ulrich from Metallica, Billie Eilish. It's like a much more, I would say diverse in terms of age, gender, race group that voted on this list as opposed to the first list, right? Yeah, absolutely. I think, and I think it reflects, I think that first list really reflects the old school
[29:00]Rolling Stone, right? We love the Rolling Stones. We love Bob Dylan. We love Bruce Springsteen. And I think now it's, it's definitely a more modern twist. And a lot of that does have to do with who they had vote for. My question is, do you think like Billie Eilish, if you're Billie Eilish, do you vote for yourself? Who? Yeah, you gotta vote for yourself. Wait, did she make it on the list? Billie Eilish, Russ. She has like the number one album. She won the Grammys last year. She like swept the Grammys. Oh no. Okay. We need to go back to basic boot camp. Wait, she totally swept the Grammys. Yeah. We, but you have to vote for yourself, right? You'd have to. I think if you look at the list and you look at who voted on it, go and look and every one of them has an album that's on here. There was a lot of criticism about the lack of ingenuity in the rap selections among the rap internet today. What do you mean by that? Yeah. Just that like the selections are, well, first of all, like Ghostface Kill at 402, like Supreme Plantel is widely recognized by hip hop heads as one of the great hip hop albums.
[30:00]And just that the rap selections, although like they expanded the selections in terms of hip hop and rap music, it was still just like Kanye, Nas, Kanye like Kendrick Lamar, Kendrick, which like I love these Kendrick albums too, but Ghostface at 402 is just like, what is this shit? What's one overall trend we noticed for each of us? And I'm just going to say right now, Beatles got just dumped down big time. Beatles were three of the top five. Now they've got one in the top 10. And it's not even an album we've covered yet, which is wild to me. Russ, what's one trend you noticed? I think there's a lot of stuff from 60s, 70s, 80s, bands that had a lot of albums on the list before and had a lot of them cut out. If you look, the Rolling Stones had three albums cut off the list. Bob Dylan, three albums cut off the list. Bruce Springsteen, three off the list. Elton John, three. Jackson Brown, three. The Police, three. The Smiths, whoever those guys are, the three. The Who had three. U2 had three.
[31:00]There was a lot of big- Whoever the Smiths are. Do you guys know the Smiths? I don't know who that is. Yeah, they're like the original emo band. If a double-decker bus crashes into us. Either way, I think that's the thing I noticed. You can tell how funny they are just from the tone of voice Rosie's using to sing. Yeah, this is the first time where I'm glad three Smiths albums were cut off the list. And I didn't make it to any of them. But I think that's one of the things that jumped out at me. A lot of these albums that are no longer on it are from big-name artists who still have albums on the list. But if you look right there, that's probably 30 albums from big-name artists or big-name bands from the 70s and 80s that are no longer on it. It seems like the Brits kind of got their ass kicked, which I think is they need that once in a while. The Brits. Yeah, but then all of kind of the obscure underground ones that come in later on, like from 200 and on in this list. There's a ton of obscure Brit stuff that comes in all of a sudden.
[32:00]So I don't know if we've broken it down by region or country or genre or anything like that yet. But yes, I did a pivot table earlier today. You fucking nerds. But I mean, there's a ton of there's a ton of like underground stuff that we haven't heard of. I don't think a lot of Americans have heard of unless you're real obscure in that we're going to get to some point in the list, which I'm excited to hear. You know, I think the one thing that I've noticed and I get I mean, I could go on for days about this list. But is that the and I think it was a big time grape with a lot of people who look at this list is that the amount of greatest hits and compilations and that sort of albums is way down. And if they're if it's not way down, they've been pushed down the list. So like Elvis was in the top 10, I believe. Wasn't he in the top 10 originally, Russell? He was 11. And it was with his records compilation, right? Yeah. Which is like excruciating to try to get through, right?
[33:00]Yeah. And so that's way down on the list now. You know, so I think that's been great that they've kind of I think you get rid of all compilations of greatest hits. That would be phenomenal. But I realize there's a place for some of them. But that's the biggest thing I notice is that they clean that up a little bit, which is great. I agree with Matt. A lot of the compilations did go. But do you guys know there are three compilations that actually jumped on the list that went up? Oh, James Brown. I think his compilation album, which is the seven hour album, went from 75 to 54. Wow. But that album was that's a lot of songs. I mean, that was such a long album. My God. Got to take his advice on heroin and you'll get through it a little bit easier. And then Rosie's like, what album? And then one that Matt and I both really enjoyed recently was Madonna. The Immaculate Collection went from 184 to 138. Okay. That record's a straight up bomb. That's a beast. And then the third collection or compilation that jumped was Merle Haggard Down Every Road went from 442 to 252.
[34:00]So that was like a 200 point jump for a compilation with Merle Haggard. So do you think they go to Taylor Swift and they say, hey, we need to use your name for this? Give us 10 albums you want us to put up there and we'll just put it up there? Or do you think they did a vote or how does it go? So Matt sent a text today that said this is them trying to sell more magazines, which I think is a brilliant observation. And then I went straight up and bought the magazine. It definitely is reaching out to a new crowd. But look at the magazine, Rosie. Like Aaron, it's like it's like a it's not even the top 500 albums aren't even the cover story. The cover story is guess who? It's Bruce Springsteen. If they have an article about Bruce Springsteen's new album. In the same article where they hatch it out like four of his albums out of the top 500. Yeah. So it's like it's if you look at the Rolling Stone magazine now with the top 500, it's that's like the second article in the cover story is Bruce Springsteen. Like it is. It does seem like a bit of a cash grab. I'm here for it. And obviously, let's not talk about how many hours of our life we've devoted to this podcast already.
[35:00]And now they've just switched it on a whim. But that's that's the pathetic mess that we are right now. Rosie beside the Brits getting bumped. Do you have any other observations overall? Yeah. I mean, the exciting ones for me are that many of my favorite albums moved up. So Purple Rain. I mean, Prince in general moved up. So I was happy with that. Purple Rain, Sign of the Times both moved up. So I was stoked on that. D'Angelo. Happy to see him in the top 50. So I in general, the trends for me were that artists that I love moved up. So I'm going to have to make you guys talk about them, including Stevie Wonder at number four with songs. And next week we'll be starting with album number four by Captain Oxtail. Please give me my dog back. I know six things about D'Angelo and that is his abs because I feel like I saw the cover of that album where he was just fucking jealous. He was just fucking jacked. I saw that like everywhere. He is jacked. That's what I would do, too. If I look like D'Angelo, the cover of my album would just be me just. And you know what? That messed him up, man. That was hard for him to deal with. He had to spend a lot of time trying to figure out are people trying to listen to my music or they just want to throw their panties at me?
[36:00]And obviously some of us wouldn't understand what kind of a problem that is. But. Yeah. Let me email D'Angelo real quick. Boo hoo. Send. What did you notice, Rob? I. I just like I said, it was the Beatles bump. Like, I just noticed the Beatles got shellacked and Bob Dylan got shellacked. And I was surprised because we really talked about like when we talked about Highway 61, we talked about, hey, this is a this is why this is a great album. And now that it's not up on the list, my tiny rat brain is now like, yeah, maybe it wasn't that good album. I will say the idea, though, that Sergeant Pepper is went from first to 28th. That's really hard for me to swallow. I cannot. I cannot have a list where Marvin Gaye is number one. Marvin Gaye is number one and Sergeant Pepper is 28. And that makes any sense to me. I just to me, Sergeant Pepper is a sign of the times. You know. That's 50 years ago. Right. I mean, that was 50 years ago.
[37:00]So. But it was just so big, like studio wise. And then the other part is like I did so much research for that album, like you busted your ass. Yeah. It seems like it was so. And I convinced myself it was so important. And now it's 28th. And I'm like, but they can't take these downloads away from us, Rob. But it's interesting. We've kind of always talked about when you do research on stuff, it influences what your opinion of it is or when you see where it is on the list, it influences that. Like we go back and look at all of our rolling groan, rolling bone, rolling tone. There's a lot of ones where we say, oh, this probably deserves to be in the top 10. Well, it's not in the top 10 anymore. So now are we going to listen to the same album and say it probably deserves to be in the 30s? If you're saying that I need to come up with a new grading system, that is I will fight you about that. The grading system is rolling bone. I am excited to hear. Well-toned. It's really well-toned. And the fact that you knew to say rolling bone. It's just too low. The number's too high. Too high. The number's too low. Or properly rated. Speaking of Dylan, I'm excited to dig into Blood on the Tracks and understand how that now became the top rated Dylan album over the other two that we've already discussed.
[38:00]Because I don't know that one that well. So I'm curious about that. So I was excited to see that. Yeah. Well. It's a fun new adventure. I can. Let me give you a hint real quick of why Blonde on Blonde dropped so far back. All right. So we're going to let this play. And I just realized that joke is not funny to anyone else because we have not released that episode yet. So first of all, one thing I noticed is that they did, Rolling Stone did actually mention a Facebook group that debates this album. Nerds. Or the list of these albums. Losers. And they did not mention our podcast, which I was furious about. Yep. And I did send a threatening letter along with some white powder in the mail to Rolling Stone. Headquarters. So I think that's going to go over really well. And we'll finally get their attention. Our move. Yep. And I put Aaron's address as the return address. So did you use Aaron's wife's name? Because you don't know it. Oh, I definitely. Your wife's name is not Mom. What's another palindrome? Radar. Is your wife named Radar?
[39:00]Zero res. Rob, why don't we start with the top ten that we used to go through? And I can kind of walk us through if you want. And then we'll we'll show where they ended up and we'll see what we think of that. Sure. All right. So let's get started. Okay. All right. I think it's great. Kill your idols. Aaron just wants anarchy. I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with the,
[40:00]I was listening to Kendrick Lamar for the first time today. Fucking bangs, man. It's pretty awesome. I can see why he's on the list three times in the top 150 Or whatever. Well, Russell, just thinking about 10 years, you're going to finally figure out who Harry Styles is. So I think that's going to be a great thing for you. Russell's like, wait, Who's Harry Styles? I don't know what you're talking about. Oh, no. Number two, which is Only one of the very few that stayed the same was Pet Sounds actually stayed at number two. And there's a good reason for it. Because I will say once again, Every other song in music history. And I said that to somebody who didn't go, Are you serious? And I got mad. I was like, yeah, excuse me. Am I a joke to you? Is This a joke to you this song? Oh, it's so good. It just has a little, oh no. Okay. Sorry. This was the favorite song of Paul McCartney, right, Rob? And Getting back to the Beatles. So Revolver was third that dropped to 11. So that stayed
[41:00]Pretty high up. But it dropped a little bit. Wow. Number four, like Aaron mentioned, Was Highway 61 went from four to 18. So that dropped and got jumped by The album Aaron mentioned earlier. I believe it's Blood on the Tracks. Blood on the Tracks, yeah. But the new number four is the big one. Number six on our list, which we covered Before and had a great time listening to has already jumped to number one. And that's What's going on Marvin Gaye. And Aaron actually, I believe you said this would Have been your number one album or you mentioned that it should be higher. Yeah, I think so. It was really grown or tone or bone or something. To me, it was rolling bone because it's timeless. It's timeless and it's grew. It's timeless, Unfortunately, and it's subject matter. And it's Marvin's voice. So I love this. I will say as well, you guys were all figuring out pivot tables and doing like Smart things of trying to get HTML or whatever you said. I was on Twitter, Which shows how smart I am. I was like, I'm on Twitter. Not a single person argued with
[42:00]What's going on as being the number one album. I didn't see a single person say that shouldn't Be number one. There's a lot of complaints about a lot of things, like not enough metal, Too much jazz, not enough jazz. Nobody complained about Marvin Gaye. And that's pretty impressive. Like in today's society, everyone wants to Complain about everything. And if people aren't complaining about number one, that's It's kind of the seal of approval, don't you think? Yeah, I think so. He's too good. He's number seven previously on the previous list was exile on Main Street. That dropped to 14. So not that big of a drop for the Stones. Number eight London calling, which we just did a few weeks ago, Dropped from eight to 16. I think they just doubled those numbers. Yeah, I was glad I was still in the top 20. But yeah, that seems like too much of a drop for Me. I think it's great. It's recency bias, Rosa. You got Rob brain. Whatever you did, maybe you think is really Good. That's your problem. And then the final two were Blonde on Blonde, which we recorded and we don't know if we're Going to release. Maybe we should discuss right now. Do we ever release Blonde on Blonde or
[43:00]Do we hold it or what do we do guys? Where is it now? Where's Blonde on Blonde now? I can only hear the harmonica. Where's Blonde on Blonde? Blonde on Blonde dropped from nine to 38. Yeah. And I'll tell you why it's right here. This, an album that opens like this should be 38. I would say Blonde on Blonde dropping is probably wise, Whether we release the content to our rabid fans or not is a different question. But well, let me tell you, here's the deal, right? Is that I think if it dropped to Like 12, I think we could wait like 10 weeks or whatever and release it. Right. But going to 28, we're going to have to hold on to that so long. There's got to be Jokes in there that are topical or at least now guys, they need to see the light of day. Oh, we have so many topical jokes. Rob needs his jokes heard.
[44:00]Like Rob will keep a 15 minute segment in the podcast because he's got One semi funny joke in there. So he's going to need that to be released. What's semi funny? What is it about 18 wheeler? And now we're keeping this whole band. And then the final one. Well, what, no, what do you guys think? What should we do with Blonde on Blonde? Because we, it's, it's all edited. It's ready to go. I don't know if I can edit it. It's Tuesday now. I don't know if I can edit this one by Monday and give the people what they want. What do we do? We gotta get this one out quick. So Rob, I'll re-listen to it and determine whether you're funny enough to Put it out. We'll figure it out. I think we got to let it go. I think that any pre-work, like we're not going to re-record, I don't think, I guess we'll talk about this, but we're not going to re-record Pet sounds and what's going on. Or we could take that week off for 28th, huh? We could just not do anything. You don't want to talk to us. You want to hang out with Emerson? We understand Rob. Yeah. This is the guy Rob's trying to replace us with. Get your other podcasts going on. I know this guy. He knows a lot about the Beatles. And I want to see more than Aaron and Matt who said the white album was one of
[45:00]Their three most favorite albums ever, but I'm going to bring this guy in instead. I did say, I did text him and I was like, If you want to use a total pseudonym on the podcast, you can. And he was like, I'll think about it. I was like, yeah, that's about the response I wanted. So the album we thought about asking him to be part of his voice was number 10. So that was the number 10 on the, is the white album dropped from 10 to 29. So Aaron and Matt, what do you think of that? That was one of your three most influential albums growing up. Yeah. I mean, I, I don't, the whole thing, All these are 50 years old these albums. And so stuff has come, stuff's go like Rosie said, just In with a new out with the old, it's, there's just, there's a huge, Washing out of the, of kind of the old, which is great. You know you can't live in 50 year old plan forever. I mean, when these things first came out in 2003, The albums are only 30 to 40 years old. You get it, right? But I mean, there has been a lot of great stuff.
[46:00]There's a bunch of bands that I think should be on the list that aren't on the list. And so get into maybe some other times. Cause we don't want to take up forever on this, but you know, it's, it's fun. You know, I'm fine with it. It's, it's not like don't like it anymore because somebody said it's An album or something like that. You know, you like what you like, right? So I don't know. Matt, your maturity is so impressive to me. You were so pissed this morning. And the 180 you've performed is just, This is why he's on the podcast, Rob, to bring a stability And a moral compass to this in a direction that we need. No doubt. This list is dog shit now. For me personally, I would say I am interested to dive back into Abbey Road Because Abbey Road was never an album that I got into. And now it sits at number five, right? And so you know what would help dive into Abbey Road as a guest. And I think that's a great idea. I think it definitely is going to go well. Her name is Yoko. She will definitely not cause a problem being on this podcast. Yeah.
[47:00]No, we don't talk each other. Nobody talks to each other. We don't talk over each other. Everybody could understand a word. Matt's wife, another, she would love another white male on this podcast, Rob. She'll definitely listen. Like four is not okay. Five, that's right in her wheelhouse. We have five rolling goons. This podcast is going to be like five hours long. It's going to be the longest fucking thing of all time. And it's going to be great. I am embarrassed. So I'm going to have to say to him like, okay, well, here's the bits we have. So you are going to have to tell us what you're up to. And then you might want to make a list that involves Bex. I'm going to be like, wait, what? What are you guys talking about? What is this podcast? But you mentioned, so Aaron, you mentioned Abbey Road. So maybe we could look real quickly at who the new top 10 is. I do want to, yeah, let's talk about it. So we talked about Marvin Gaye jump to one, Pet Sound state at two. I think the biggest jump is Joni Mitchell at blue going from 18 to three, right? Yeah, I think so. And I don't get that one. I mean, we'll talk about it, but I don't get it. We might be talking about it next week. Spoiler alert. Spoiler alert. Spoiler alert.
[48:00]I do own this one on vinyl. So I'm excited for that. You need to have, and I'm not saying this is tokenism, Because I don't think it is. I honestly think this should be in the top three. But you need to have a woman artist in the top five, correct? Yes. You have to. Yeah. So pick a woman artist that should be in the top five. Aretha is the only other choice. I mean, if it's not Joni, it's Aretha. And I don't know if it came down to votes or which, but to me, I mean I would love to see Whitney Houston hire myself, But that's a different thing. Yeah. Sadie. Yeah. Yes. She's on there, right? The Diamondlight. Oh, yeah. Twice, yeah. I want to be strong. She's number 50. She's up to 50, I think. Yeah. The one thing they did when they got rid of Bob Dylan's terrible Harmonica playing Cousin Herbert or whatever his name was. Again, that has not been released. They did bring on more harmonica for number four. We got Songs in the Key of Life, Stevie Wonder. This is an Aaron favorite and one that Matt and I have not quite given its props.
[49:00]I'm going to win you guys over. I'm going to have to really dig in to do my reason. Because like, I think Sturduke is actually one of the weaker tracks on the album. I think tracks like as are. What the hell? Sounds so basic to me, Rosie. You're going to have to explain it to me, Compared to some of the other stuff that we've listened to and Musicality. I mean, like he's a great singer, right? These are great pop songs, but like it just sounds like a pop song. Like I said, I think other tracks on the album are. I mean, I love them. You need to love today. I think is an absolute banger, but track one side one. So I think what we've learned so far is that the next two albums we're going to do Are two that Matt absolutely cannot stand. So I think this is going to be Matt gets angry. Matt's Excel spreadsheet of shit he wants to get rid of. And they're on Aaron's Excel spreadsheet of, Hey, I really like these albums. Oh, it's so good. Oh, it's so good. He's going to be mad. And you got to keep, you got to stay mad, Matt. You got to, you can't do this 180 again. You got to really stay angry. We need that. Really worth it. I mean, to get pissed off about Joni Mitchell. Don't make it dirty so you can be mature about it.
[50:00]It's a great way to go through life. Fucking Joni Mitchell. Oh my God. That's our shirt. That's our t-shirt. The front is going to say Beck did it better. I will say, I own another Joni Mitchell album that I absolutely did test, But I do like blue. So we can talk about that when we get to that. Number five on the list was this is where the Beatles kind of got cleaned out And dropped down quite a bit. And then a new album that we haven't even covered yet jumped up, Abby Road. Did that shock you guys at all or not? Yeah. This one's fascinating to me because Abby Road, I think We'll talk about it when we get to the album, but I think there are good tracks. It sounds more like a band playing together that enjoys playing together. But like, side two is just like a medley, right? It's like they didn't even finish the tracks. So I think it's kind of fascinating. Where does Abby Road sit chronologically in the Beatles? It's the last one released, but it was recorded before Let It Be, I think. Okay. So we're talking post-white album. This is like where they're really mad at each other. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
[51:00]I'm trying to remember. So Abby Road and Let It Be are the last two and one was recorded before the other And then released that what I'm saying? Don't worry. I'll have all that information from Wikipedia by the time we get to that episode. I think I'll be here to host it. I think number six is really interesting. Because when I listened to the list the first time, this was the first time where I said, Holy shit, I see why this stands out. And that's Nirvana, never mind. When we did this list the first time, this was the one where I was like, This album needs to be higher. It's got to be tough. Because this really did like change music forever. It's interesting to see them next to the Beatles too, because I know, You know, they were very Beatles influenced, even though you wouldn't know it necessarily. Nirvana was? No, totally. In what way? Give me one way. I believe you, but what way? You know, just writing good pop hooks and keeping your songs tight and having a, You know, verse chorus, verse kind of a structure.
[52:00]You're so full of shit. What are you talking about? You just said three things that all songs have. Kurt Cobain was a total Beatles fan. Good words. A chorus. Hey, do we have a soundbite for when Rob calls out Aaron's music knowledge? Like, we may need a soundbite for that. Rob is right. I will happily be proven wrong. Like, there's never a time when I might not be spewing bullshit. So I'm happy if I'm wrong. I will say, no, see, no, don't do that. We need to argue on this. I will say that one of the joys this podcast has brought me is that somebody Made a Beck that did a better fan page on Twitter. And I think it's at BDB. I don't even know what it is. That's so embarrassing. And I love it that something we made has a fan page. We have no idea who's running it. Everyone thinks it's me and it's not. I will say one unfortunate thing is, much like our voicemails, The Beck that did a better fan page does not hesitate to take shots at all of us all the time. Yes. And say, and pretty much point out everything we do wrong. They're like, Rob is a dumb shit. Oh, yeah. And I'm like, oh, no, this is my fan page.
[53:00]Like these are supposed to be the people who really like me. Sorry, Russ, keep going, please. No, those are all just rumors about the fan page. And the next album that jumped way up on the list is Fleetwood Mac Rumors. What a bro. But this is when I think, Aaron, I believe you at one point have said, This is not one of your favorites. No, I really dislike Fleetwood Mac. And as I've said, or maybe I haven't said it on the pod, Maybe in personal conversation with you all. It might be the Bill Clinton association with them. I just like because that guy, but I just have never, Never been a fan of Fleetwood Mac. I don't like, I don't like it, something about it. But I'm going to give this, I'm going to give rumors a real shot And talk with you guys about it. I think rumors might be one of the best albums on this list. I mean, it is, it's, it's like a greatest hit album. Rob convinced it's up to seven, right? That was Rob's down. Rolling, well-toned. Fleetwood Mac's only album on the whole list, You know, which is strange to me that they've got The number seven album of all time, but they've got nothing else.
[54:00]Whereas you've got a lot of these, I mean through, I mean even, I'm looking, trying to find, I mean even Utang at 27, I think they may even have two albums on the list. You know, everybody, it's just, it seems strange to me That they've got one album and it's at number seven. And then they're like the Florida Marlins who bought a championship And then sucks forever, right? They didn't put Utang forever on the list. Well, we're back to sports talk. I will say, I think Fleetwood Mac is a good lesson On love triangles. And that's why I really think guys, We should try to avoid a love triangle in this podcast As much as we can. Well, no, I'm not saying we have to. I'm saying- Because someone else's feelings might be there to make it a square. A love square. Does this mean we need to cancel our wife swapping? Our wife swapping sponsorship or not? The thing is like, she was in a love triangle, But it wasn't like my feelings weren't there to make it a square. I don't think, see, when you say a love square, What I think of is that like, we've all turned- Oh no. To kiss the person. Maybe we can stop with whatever. We can stop whenever. They're kissing the next person. We can stop this. Okay, wait a minute.
[55:00]I'm thinking about this and I kind of like it. No, we cannot give up our wife swapping Sponsorship that we have. I'm really invested in this. I've made, once again, I have made 1,000 shirts That say wife swapping on the back And Beck did it better on the front. And there is a typo on Beck did it better, But it's not a big deal. I don't think anybody's going to know this. So that's my bad. Quality control, QC, not my strength. If we were to move on to eight and nine, Here's the interesting one. Here's where this is the Minnesota roots Coming into the list. You've got France, Purple Rain, And Bob Dylan, Blood on the Tracks, Two Minnesota natives at eight and nine. Which one of these guys would you rather kiss If you had to kiss one? I'd pick Prince. Prince, yes. I have a question. I don't know though, kissing Bob Dylan. He would sarcastically make fun of you With some crazy lyric afterwards. It would make you feel bad Because you wouldn't understand it. Right, like Prince would like give you a kiss, Like fully hit it, And then he might like give you a look. And then it would just start,
[56:00]And then it would start raining During this, like the Super Bowl, And it would be the most romantic moment You've ever had in your life. And then his guitar would just observe. I was saying, I think I want to kiss Prince. I could pick him up too. I'm pretty sure I could pick him up like a baby. You're a lot stronger than we think you are. I think... I could definitely pick up Prince. Oh, that song, man, and that album, yeah. I think that is a well-deserved jump Into the top 10. It was, Prince was way too far down previously. And I think it might, Maybe it's like when the list was made, Like people weren't thinking about Prince Maybe in the early 2000s. Like it wasn't his strongest pop culture moment, But I mean, you got to have a higher... I was going to say the real interest here. Jump to me in the top 10. The one that caught me off guard, And I'm not saying it doesn't belong, But I wasn't expecting it, is Lauren Hill. This is the best move. This is education of Lauren Hill. Jump from 314 to 10. This is awesome. Yeah, I agree. Plus spots. Who you met? Matt. Let's hear it, Matt.
[57:00]This is a song that is... When I think about music growing up, This is right up there for me. It's the buddy Fran. It's called... But if you guys... I love this. It's like if you guys were to say, Hey, what else would they think would be up there? Would you have ever guessed this? Oh yeah. This is the top five concert I've ever seen in my life. A buddy of mine, Nick from Minneapolis, And I went to First Ave. We said the tickets are coming out for First Ave. She was coming back. We got to go see this shit show. Right? This is when everybody thinks she's crazy And going off the deep end. And she put on a phenomenal show. It was unbelievable. It was a third of her own stuff, A third of Bob Marley's stuff Because she's married to a Marley. And so she went through this whole reggae set And then a third of Fuji's stuff. And it was so good. So we went back the next year. Unbelievable. Anybody has a chance to see Lauryn Hill Live Do not pass it up. It is a phenomenal show.
[58:00]So top five concerts I've ever seen. I'm interested to see what the rest of that album Sounds like because I know that song really well. Oh, Lord. I know that album so well. That album changed my life. That was in full rotation, Senior year of high school. I have one question for you guys. Speaking of albums that changed my life, Did Weird Al make this list? No. Nope. Nope. We listened to what we... That's ridiculous. Gerald pulled up white and nerdy today. We were listening to some Weird Al Before we got on the pod. I don't know. That's ridiculous to me That nobody voted for Weird Al. Shame. Shame Taylor Swift. I'm not afraid to say that. We could discuss some of the new artists That did make the list for the first time If you guys wanted to. No, good night. I'm excited about that. I'm excited to hear that. It would be so funny If that's how a podcast ended one time. Oh, you... Russ, do that again. Hey, we could talk about this.
[59:00]Hey, we could talk about some of the... When you want to hear about some of the old times. That's just the end of the podcast. And then we never release anything else. We go full learn home. Nobody ever hears from us again. All right. And that is probably an inappropriate comment to make. Oh, yeah. Russ, what were you going to do? You had a good idea before. Once again, I steamrolled your great idea. I was going to say, I thought it would be cool if we covered Some of the newer artists That made the list for the first time. And maybe what we could do is cover The new artists that are the highest up on the list If that worked for you guys. Awesome. So we're going to start with... We'll go from lower to the top. These are all artists that landed in the top 35. So how does that work? Rolling Bone? Grown? So we'll start with number 33 on the list. So they're now in the top 35? They were not on the list at all. And in most cases, It's because they're newer albums
[1:00:00]That probably weren't around long enough To make the list in 2013. That means they got Rolling Bone before. Yeah they were previously Rolling Bone. So the first one is jumping up at 33 Is back to Black Amy Winehouse, Who was on the list with a different album, But not on the list for this album. It was Frank on before? That's good. Because Frank is a good album. But this one. I didn't put you on the list. I'm not sure in the top 50. I don't think so. It was. Oh. I'm going to edit that in. Guys, she was on the list before. I knew that. But the interesting thing is, So this album is from 2005, So it would have been eligible for the 2013 list, But was not on it. The next one, The next one that made a presence is When life throws you lemons, You make lemonade. You got Beyonce, who is at 32. Because I'm scared. I'm scared to listen to this one. Yeah, you said that. Why are you scared to listen to Beyonce? Because she's mad on this album.
[1:01:00]Can you imagine what Beyonce mad is like? This is a serious, intense album about her feelings. I can tell what a good husband you are. Women being mad at me. I call that Tuesday. I will say I know several of the tracks on Lemonade From Beyonce's homecoming album, Which I will also say, Yeah, we'll talk about them when we talk about Lemonade. I know a lot of those tracks, But I've never listened to, I've never listened to Lemonade. Man, listen, guys, If you need something to do, Or you don't need anything to do, Or you want your life vitalized, You need to watch Beyonce homecoming on Netflix. I watched a bit of that. I thought it was entertaining, But it's long. I don't have the attention span. I'm telling you, I'm old. I got some, The bathroom needs painting. I got some socks to sort, I think. Set all of that aside. So the two things you have to do, Matt, Is that your bathroom needs painting And your socks need storing? Is that what you're sort of sorting? Sorting.
[1:02:00]They're kind of just in a big pile right now, so. You got to start buying all the same kind of socks. So what are you doing? Now, I don't do that, of course. I have very fancy socks that are fun and bright colors, And it is a pain in my ass Because when I lose one, The other one is now useless, okay? And when you're made, Does your laundry every like four days Or something like that? I mean, you probably get mad at her, don't you? Every four days. What am I, an animal? No way. This is why Rob wanted to be a cologne guy Because he's a boring one sock guy Where he wears all the same socks all the time And he needs to be something, right? First of all, I want to be very clear. The person who comes over and helps is not my maid, okay? I consider her a friend, all right? Who does my laundry and I pay her for it? No, well, and then she also works as a car, So she goes to Costco. But, Rob, she's a friend. I noticed on Facebook that you may have accused Your maid of eating all the marshmallows In your Lucky Charms box this weekend. What happened there? No, that's my psychotic family. Every single member of my family,
[1:03:00]We store our cereals in these clear jars. They ate every frickin' marshmallow Out of the Lucky Charms And left only the cat food parked behind. And then when I told them I said, You guys are psychos, don't do this, They were like, whoa, All three of the girls in my house were like, What's the big deal? I was like, are you serious? Who's gonna eat this Lucky Charms now? This is just gonna sit here forever. That was, the sun will envelop the earth, okay? The big crunch will happen, We'll have another big bang, And you guys know all this stuff. The Rolling Stones will put on another list Before that shit gets out. Oh my God, we will be at like 4.99, They're gonna come up with a new list, And we'll be like, oh, shit. And that Lucky Charms will still be in my cabinet Because the part of Lucky Charms people like Is not the cat food part. And by the way, everyone on Facebook was like, Well, they still just the marshmallows buy that. Oh, okay, yeah, I'm gonna just buy the marshmallows. My whole family eat that. That's not the problem. The problem is I live with freaking psychopaths. Eat the marshmallows out of there. Give me a break. So, your friend. What's those marshmallows back in? I gotta get to my podcast. I need to tell my food. You know what I did is I went down
[1:04:00]Because I live in the same building as a Dwayne Reed, Like as a drugstore. So I just went down there, And I bought them plain Cheerios. Oh, guess what? There's nothing to pick out of that, Motherfuckers. It's just plain ass Cheerios. There's nothing, there's no taste. It tastes like cardboard. That's what you get. That's the cereal that you're gonna have. I don't care. Live with a bunch of crazy people. Can they not walk down to the same Dwayne Reed? Oh yeah, they're gonna do. No, we have our friend do it. We have our friend do our grocery shopping for us. And that's Rob's left field take of the week. Oh, yeah. Luckily, if they take all the marshmallows, You can develop abs like D'Angelo, Who, to my knowledge, Was not on the original list of voodoo. But I believe he jumped to 28 from not on the list. Oh, but I think this is one of the biggest jumps, right? He went all the way up to 28 from... Where was he at before, man? Well deserved, man. When we listen to this entire album, guys,
[1:05:00]This thing is a monster. It's such a great album. All I remember is that I was trying to meet some girl, Which sounds like the start of the song, it is not. And I was in her room or something, And she had a poster of D'Angelo, And I was just like, man, this is over. I'm done. You know what I mean? I needed a poster of a girl who had meatloaf, Like a big meatloaf poster in her room, And I'd be like, yeah what I mean? The food or the band? But either one. I would date a girl that had either one. Always get meatloaf. She just had pictures of her... Matt would date a girl with meatloaf. If she had pictures of her dad up and around the room, I'd be like, yes, Because I had premature dad face and bod. Like, I was dad going into college. I was like, full dad mode. You guys know, previously, We had discussed on an unpublished episode Of this podcast whether meatloaf Had a better run than meatloaf the food. Right. That may need to be reexamined. Meatloaf is now off the list. He's gone. Off the list. Gone.
[1:06:00]Woo. That's a tough card. Out of hell. Back into hell. Goodbye, meatloaf. You're flushed. The biggest jump out of nowhere Is to pimp like a butterfly. Kendrick Lamar, I do not believe, Was on the last list. Anything about Kendrick Lamar? And I keep hearing that name Brought up over and over and over. And I'm super excited to listen to this album. Like, just get into it. I think it's going to be awesome. This is the one of his I listened to the most. He won a Pulitzer for DNA, right? But Pimp a Butterfly, I think, Is a really master work. I'm excited to listen to it And talk with you guys about it. Well, like, what are the, What are the big, The big level things that you found? Well, they cut my pearl jam by half. I mean, so that's, that's kind of, You know, they also cut Johnny Cash by half. Yeah. Sons of bitches. Rolling Stone, you can go, You can go screw yourself. How do you take two Johnny Cash albums, Cut it to one? Yeah. Feel like they got a lot more indie, A lot more underground than before.
[1:07:00]And it kind of comes into the whole thing. We've talked about a number of times of, This is 500 greatest albums of all time. You know, you've got three pavement albums On this. And I like pavement. I've learned about pavement From going through this list. You've got three pavement albums on here, But you've got one pearl jam. You don't have any Soundgarden. You've got Rage, Soundgarden got cut. One Rage Against the Machine. Is it really? You've What? You know, there's like all this stuff, But you've got pavement albums. This is the greatest album. There's a number of things like that That just, it just kind of drives me bonkers. I like, I love Kanye West's Good Song. We'd have six Kanye albums on here As the 500 greatest albums of all time. I don't agree with that. We'll talk about that when we get into Kanye. You know, I don't know. It just, they got a little bit Kind of off the beaten path From what it was, I think. Some of that needed to happen. They needed to clear out some of the stuff
[1:08:00]From the 70s and the 60s. A lot of 80s and 90s underground stuff That I frankly never heard of. And so I'm excited to hear it, But it's almost like They kind of went a little bit nerdy on it And got some of these albums. Are they influential? Probably. But are they the greatest albums of all time? I don't know. So that's the only thing I noticed. We're talking about notable omissions. I noticed that there wasn't any Foo Fighter albums on this list. That surprised me. I thought for sure they would at least Make the cut. I don't know. Yeah. You know, newer groups from the 2010s. I honestly think that 21 Pilots Is way more influential than Harry Styles Or any of these other ones. I thought they were a big time miss. From keeping off this list. It just seems like they kind of went broad. I think there was something like 200 B artists In the first list or 290, something like that. And they're up to about
[1:09:00]In 6370 different individual artists. And that right there, I think is a great point. I think that's great. I do too. There doesn't need to be 11 Bob Dylan albums and 10 Rolling Stones. I think that's great. I think it's great as well. Yeah. One interesting thing, Matt, You noted kind of the timeline of 50s and 60s. But I kind of went and looked. And one thing I noticed was If you look at decades, Because we looked at decades When we first started this, Rob, Like there was the most songs were in the 70s, I think, right? Or most albums were in the 70s. Yeah. Yeah, they were like and by like a ton. Like it was like. So if you look at the change in the list, Like the net changes, the 60s lost 31 albums. The 70s lost 32 albums. The 80s lost 14. And then the 90s gained 30s. So the 90s actually had a big gain. 2000s gained 11. And then there's 35 new songs In the last 10 years on the list. Albums. So Russell, would you say the 70s
[1:10:00]Or the decade? Bell tolls. Because time marches on. Yeah, Metallica, they get two albums. Harry Styles gets one. That's Harry. Who? Well, I noticed. I noticed, too. Like Mariah Carey made the list now. Mancipation of Mimi. I think that's a great addition. I think honestly, she should probably have more. I think she's a hugely influential. Mr. Her first album should be on. Can I say what bugged me most about the change? This is very important. No, goodbye. Everyone needs to listen now. The B 52s went from being 152. Like they obviously placed them at 152 Because they were the B 52s. And they changed it to 198. What the hell? Just leave them at 152. 52. Yeah. This is a scientific way of going about it, Russell. Wherever the number is. I would say love Shaq. They got love smack way back there. Hey, for the purposes of this podcast, I agree with Matt. I do not want to talk about Kanye six times. I love many of these albums,
[1:11:00]But no one needs to talk about Kanye anymore. And so I'm not looking forward to that. And I'm concerned for the direction of the pod. Knowing I've been, I'll be honest, Full disclosure. I've been dreading off the wall. And now we're going to have to talk about Thriller and off the wall in very close proximity. And I don't know how to make a good podcast About Michael Jackson in 2020. So I'm concerned about those two, Those two particular artists. But I mean, it's going to be a discussion, right? Because although I will say Phil Spector, I did write down Phil Spector Got bumped all the way back to 489. He's out of the top. He was in like the top vision. So maybe real briefly, We could touch on the albums that stayed on the list, But fell the most. Let's do it. So the fourth biggest fall was by one of our favorites. I know one of Matt's favorites, Funeral by Arcade Fire went from 151 to 500. That's so weird. All the way down to 500.
[1:12:00]That's wild. Because you guys were raiding on this album. I was like, it's a bit of a job. That's a great album. That's great. I also listened to it. I really enjoyed it too. Another one that I think we all have enjoyed. And this is an interesting one. So this is The Greatest Hits. Al Green's Greatest Hits fell from 52 to 456. And I think what they did was they put in it. I think they put in a different Al Green album To kind of compensate for that. So The Greatest Hits got bumped way down And they put in something else. Teeth, but his was The Greatest Hits. I didn't mind being on there because to me, That's the definitive Al Green. You know, it's kind of like the Bob Marley legend, right? Like it's the album that you have. I own this album. I love the album. It just is like the reverend getting kicked down to the 400s. Absolutely a travesty. And you know what? I'm going to subscribe to Rolling Stone And then cancel my subscription. Hey, well, we got to subscribe long enough To leave comments on their message board, Sending people to our podcast, right, Rob?
[1:13:00]Yes. That definitely is where you get the most stable. The most stable members of society Is the comments in different web pages. That's definitely the people we want interacting. We're going to get more fan pages that are like, We should kill Rob. And then Rob mentioned one of the other biggest falls Was Phil Spector, convicted murderer, Going from 65 to 489. And I was actually looking through the list today. I was like, okay, they just did the right thing. Like they took him off the list. Hey, not only is he not an artist. He's, I shouldn't say he's not an artist. He's not a singer. He's not a musician. He is the producer. Like why would the producer's collection be on here When no one else is? But it turns out they kept him at 489. They couldn't help themselves. I was on Twitter and I was used Phil Spector As an example of people who should have been lower on the list. And somebody was like Actually the Phil Spector collection is really nice If you can get it in CD form. It was really great. I opened it up. And then it had that Christmas album is a little... Christmas album is gone. And I was like, shut up. I was like, who are you on Twitter Defending Phil Spector?
[1:14:00]Give me a break. Darling, yeah. Darling Love, the Ronettes, yeah. It's the best Christmas album. That's the tough thing. So, but it's hard. So you can't, like, I don't know how else you would Include, how else would you include these artists Who are clearly pillars of American rock and roll? There's no Bruce Springsteen without Darling Love. There's no Beach Boys without the Ronettes. So how would you... There's no other way to include... Dude, couldn't you do the Ronettes greatest hits? There's no other way to include these artists Without including... You'd have to, yeah, like something else, Some other way to have them. Because, yeah, like, they should try to get rid Of Phil Spector if they can. But these are just fundamental sounds in American rock. That's the problem, right? Is if you took off every artist who was questionable on here, This would be like three people. It's not questionable. He's convicted, as Russell said. There's no question that he was found. Well, Michael Jackson was, But Michael Jackson was never convicted.
[1:15:00]So if that's how you're judging people... But I think... Wait. I think one thing... I thought I was saying Michael Jackson's questionable. Phil Spector is beyond question. Well, one thing with Phil Spector, It's beyond, like, behavior. It's what their role was, right? There aren't other albums on this list That are collections of the producer. Are there? I don't know. I mean, the Chronic is the most... Is there a low-down one? If you could, like, you can kind of think of the Chronic That way, but that's actually an album. Yeah, I agree. That it's a questionable way to honor questionable. But you know what? Like, these were the ones that dropped a lot, But they didn't get fully cut off the list. I thought maybe we could real briefly touch on the ones That were the highest on the list That could completely cut off. Is that worth it? Oh, yeah. I'm here for it. Captain Beefheart went from 60 to out of the list completely. Off the list. That was one of the... Guys, I will do a negative one-gun salute for...
[1:16:00]We don't care about Captain Beefheart. That album is hard. CCR's Greatest Hits got cut. They went from 59 to off the list. They have a different album, But the Greatest Hits got cut off the list. Gaya. I believe the Beatles... Stands. Although that Greatest Hits album was a good album. I believe the Beatles, please, Me got cut off the list. Matt, am I right? It went from 39 to off the list. Oh, that's good. And I also believe Robert Johnson went from 22, The complete recordings, And he got cut, Although they did add a separate album of his, But he went from 22 to off the list. Really? What album would they add of his? I didn't think he had an album. I thought... Hmm. That's... Okay. But if it's not 10 hours long, I listened to that album, And it took me a whole state That I was driving across To get through that whole album. So those were some of the artists That were high on the list,
[1:17:00]But there's other ones That we're not going to get a listen to, Potentially, now. Buffalo Springfield, The Carpenters, Cheap Crick Lost 2, Def Leppard, Off the list. The Eurythmics. What? Jackson Brown, I believe, lost three albums. How the hell did he have three albums On there to begin with? Jefferson Airplane, Two albums off the list. Jackson Brown is a classic Rolling Stones band, They're a guy of, Like, who the Rolling Stone magazine loves. One of Rob's favorites, Jethro Tull, Panties in the Park, Off the list. Oh, no. We mentioned Meatloaf earlier. Neil Diamond, Cut off the list, Soundgarden, Rest in Peace. No Neil Diamond. Steve Earl. Steve Miller Band. No Steve Earl. Mamas and the Papas, Something called Mothers of Invention, Two of them, Off the list. That's Frank Zappa. What? No. Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa got cut off the list. Well, that band at least did. Well, Frank Zappa is part of the Mothers of Invention. That's crazy to me. Frank Zappa needs to be on the list. And two final ones. Is Mamas and,
[1:18:00]Wait, wait. Is Mamas and the Papas not on there at all? Mamas and the Papas got cut too. They're on the top 100. They're gone. And then the final two that are Rest in Peace, Off the list at this point, Are the Yardbirds, Lost two albums. They're off the list. And ZZ Top, They thought those Beards would carry them through From Eternity. And it turns out, They're not into Beards anymore. Trace Ombres is not on the list? That album? I think they got cut. That's, That's ridiculous. The fact that LaGrange is not on the list anymore Is a travesty. LaGrange is the second best rock and roll song Of all time, Right after God Only Knows And right before Hot for Teacher. So I think that's an absolute shame. I think there's another travesty here. You know who else got cut Off the list? Not completely. But our man back. Okay, he got hit. OLA went from 306 to 424. And then he had another album, I believe it's Sea Change, Off the list. So according to 2020's list, Oh, Sea Change is the only one I know.
[1:19:00]Beck did not do it better according to 2020. All right. Well, I did set up, Let's just set up, I did set up a little thing for Beck. Beck, we salute you, Where it's been good to not have covered you on the list, But you were on the list. It's back. We salute you. Inspired us. All right. So that was bad. Whenever I feel like good things are Going to play that song, But it always works. Talked about DeAngelo and some of them, But The outcast album, Which was 100, Is now up to 49. And I couldn't. Yeah. You got the number on that one. Where did that go from that 500 to what? Aquamanite? From 500, number 49. And you talk about the Atlanta rap game, And you don't talk about it without outcast. So I think I'm going to have they moved up as well. Well, so they were the biggest jump, Another big jump. So they went 451 spots.
[1:20:00]I think they were the biggest jump in the world. I think they were the biggest jump in the world. I think they were the biggest jump in the world. That's pretty amazing. Then the second biggest jump, I believe was enter the Wu Tang, The Wu Tang Clan. They jumped 360 spots. Bring the ruckus. This is another one. This is a huge, I've never listened to any Wu Tang. Oh, you're in for a ride. You are in for a ride. So I don't like the smaring. I would prefer that they were clean. Rob, what hip hop do you hear From people's fight verse leave in the hearse? It did worse. What's the hip hop you come from here, Coming from people's cell phones On the subway right now in New York? I am always wearing headphones, And I don't ever make eye contact With anybody at all. Okay, so I do not know what's going on around me At any time. It's probably, Probably Amish Paradise by Weird Al
[1:21:00]Would be my guess. Another huge jump from a rapper Is Illmatic by Nas, 358 spots from 402 to 44. Also deserves. I mean, this one, You can't talk about hip hop without talking about Illmatic. I'm telling you guys, I think talk about hip hop is going to be a big change For this podcast. I'm excited to do it, But it's going to be interesting. But it's not all hip hop that had big jumps though, Rob. Did you know the fourth biggest jump on the list was By whole? I believe that's the name of the band, right? That's Courtney Love's. Courtney Love? Live through this jump from 460 to 106, 354 spots. That's, I think that's fucked. I don't get that at all. It's ridiculous. There's only one Pearl Jam song in this album makes it. Oh, but really I mean, whole was a band, And with our Kurt Cobain as whole on this list at all,
[1:22:00]It's ridiculous. Dangerous territory. There's only one way to find out, and that's... Well, she murdered him, Aaron. And I'm not afraid to go on the podcast and say that, okay? I've done a lot of individual, I've done a lot of investigating, And I know for a fact that she did that. So, and I'm not... The real question is, are we going to list? Oh, Matt, go ahead. I just going to say, Only because it's just a slight call back, Because Rob did all this work today. We're going to have, We're going to have 10s more listeners listening to this. Actually, D'Angelo did make the biggest jump, 481 to 28, I believe. So, he made 453, And then Amy Winehouse went from 451 to 33, So she was 418, so... So, the two I screwed up. Yeah. So, they were big jumps, But I mean, that's just... I mean, we went through this list quick today, So I'm not saying there's anything wrong. I just wanted to make sure we pointed that out that... That's so interesting though, The two biggest jumps were D'Angelo and Amy Winehouse. I would have had to guess a lot before I would have guessed. D'Angelo outcasts Amy Winehouse, Nas, and then whole.
[1:23:00]I would have had D'Angelo in my top, Personal top 20 anyway, So I never would have thought he would have had to judge. But the real interesting thing is, We mentioned the whole album, You guys kind of ragging on it a little bit there, Rob, or saying, I don't get it why it's that high. The real question is, Are we going to listen to that album? Are we going to continue going down the 2013 list Or the 2020 list? 2020. I put it out on Facebook. I put out, this is an emergency, we have to have it. And the comments did not help, Because there weren't any. Nobody thought it was a big deal, except us. No, actually the comments were like, Basically, why would you still do the old list? Why not do the new list? And I was like, yeah, you're out. Gotta get with the night. Do the new list, it's exciting. We're here, we're at the vanguard of this shit. Wouldn't you feel dirty doing the old list still? Like, if we had to do... Like when we got to Hank Williams or whatever, You'd be like, oh, I don't... Or like Captain B-Far, you'd be like, Why are we still doing this list? Nobody cares. In no way we're listening to Captain B-Far.
[1:24:00]I'd rather listen to DeAngelo for three months straight Than one more Captain B-Far. I'm so glad we don't talk about that. There's not enough beef-eater Jen in this state For me to pair with that Captain B-Far album To get through that one. And people out there, If you don't know what we're talking about, Just type in Captain B-Far Sam and something into YouTube And listen to three seconds of it And see if you would want us to talk about that. I don't even know how you'd pull sound clips for it. Like it'd be, it's wild. I don't get it. Now that being said, Frank Zabba should be on this list. Now that people are going to want a bonus Captain B-Far episode. Yeah, I say press forward to 2020. Let's do Joni Mitchell next week. We are going to start with Joni Mitchell. Next week is going to be Joni Mitchell at number three. And then we are going to go ahead And just jump up the list And just skip the ones that we have already covered. I was thinking about like re-releasing them, But that seems almost like perverse that I would do that. And it's a good thing too Because my numbering system on putting out these podcasts Has been messed up Because it automatically adds numbers sometimes
[1:25:00]And not other times. So like the last episode we had come out was number two. It makes no sense to me. So we are officially restarting the numbering system. We've got it all down. It's not going to be confusing for anyone. Plus the bottom line is nobody cares but us. Nobody else was shook by this news Except for the four of us. I'm kind of curious. Rob, do we need to finish this episode Like we finished all? Do we need to say it Whether we think the new list is bone-grown Or toned or not? Yeah. Well, let's I will say this. I do want to say this about the new list. I really like this new list. I'll start by the way. Oh, no, no, I won't start. I do like this new list. And the reason is a lot of this music Is from when I had kids. Okay. When you have kids, Your entire life shuts down. There are chunks. There's a year. There's like three years where movies came out. I saw none of them. I don't know any of the new music. I'm more in tune with modern music now Than I was when I had kids. So this is going to be a great trip for me To go right through this like the 2010s. How old are my kids? And I'm going to look real quick. Okay. They're 35. So I'm excited to talk about the Beach Boys. No.
[1:26:00]Yeah. I think this is going to be great. I'm really excited to talk about that time That I basically just missed Because I was out of the house so much Because those kids were so loud and annoying. I did not want to hang around. So I didn't get a chance to listen to music. So I'm excited by this. But yes, let's end this podcast And do our final rating, The final rating system, of course, And everybody loves it. And it's definitely not going to change With this new list. Is this new list rolling well Toned? Is this new list rolling boned? And that means it's too low on the list And it should be a higher number. Or is this list a rolling groan? Okay. Do you not like this list? So let's do this. Rolling well toned is that it's perfect. Rolling boned is that they screwed up a ton of it. And rolling groan is that they really screwed up All of it. Okay. So it basically is one, two, three. What do you think, guys? Ross, I'll start with you. I think this is rolling well toned. I think this is the right thing to do when When we look at a list and we say, Hey, this is no longer relevant. We need to update this to bring in new artists And new musicians that have been
[1:27:00]Really important for music over the last However many years. I think that's the right thing to do. And I think you could kind of look at it Like some people might look at the Constitution. Like it's a living, breathing document. It's a living, breathing list That's going to change over time. And I think it's the right thing to do To add new lists while it frustrated The hell out of me this morning. And I don't know how I'm supposed To continue to ignore my dates On what's really important to me And I can't tell them about this. Well, we already gave you advice. In the near future. Don't try to sneak more advice out of us. But overall, I think it's rolling well toned. I think it's cool that they added All these new musicians. Admittedly, I'm going to feel much better Talking with my next date About the new Kendrick Lamar album As opposed to the Carpenter. So I think it's a good thing for me. And I did think it was interesting When you were talking about that, That Rosie held up the Constitution In one hand. And then the other hand, He had a big sign that says, This shows I don't have to wear a mask. And he just kept pointing the two Over and over. And I just thought that was really, I think that's a cool thing to do. And I like that this podcast is pivoting towards Matt. What do you think? Ripping up all those letters From his kids' school about the immunizations.
[1:28:00]It's all hoax. I don't want microchips in my kids. Matt, what do you think? I think for the most part, It's rolling well toned For much of the reasons that Russell stated. You know, if things are getting old, They're getting stale. You update them. Great cell albums or cell magazines All that stuff. Most part, they did a really good job with it. Obviously, everybody's going to have Their own opinions of too much of this, Not enough of that. But for the most part, They did a really good job of it. And if they would have had One or two more Pearl Jam albums on it, It would have been extremely Rolling well toned. But... And find a better man. We won't get into that. I'm going to edit out all the Pearl Jam stuff For this episode. So people are going to be like, Wait, what is Matt talking about at the end? I'll tell you what. For the first time, we have run out of time. So that's it for the podcast. I'll see you right now. Okay, Roger, what do you think of the list? I mean, super boring.
[1:29:00]I wish I could disagree with Russell and Matt, But I 100% agree. I think it's rolling well toned. I'm excited to check out the new list. I think it was time to freshen things up. I'm pumped to go through Some of this stuff with you all. So let's do it. The correct answer, by the way, For the list is, When you go into a brewery or a bar And you're trying to figure out What kind of new beer you want to drink, You need guidance, right? And there's just huge tracks of music And especially hip hop and rap That I don't know anything about. I need someone to guide me. Okay. And this list, guys, It's rolling Ciceroan. This list is my... This list is, And for those of you that don't know, Ciceroan is like a Samye, but for beer. This list is my Ciceroan. It's going to guide me through. The R&B world that's going to guide me through hip hop. I already know everything I know About the Beatles and Bob Dylan. I don't need to know any more crap. I want to hear about D'Angelo And why he's so sad about his abs. Oh, I'm so hot. And actually, I'm sure it wasn't Like a serious body dysmorphia thing,
[1:30:00]But it doesn't matter. I will make fun of it because he's attractive And that's punching up. I don't care. Okay. Although I could see D'Angelo at my house Beating the hell out of me. So that is it for today. The next album, I will say this, guys, I am a little bummed Because I was excited about our Mixtape episode that we were going to do After number 10, But I think we've got to wait Until we get to number 10 again. I don't see what the other option is. I think I'm excited to do Joni Mitchell. I'm excited to do all the way up to Lauren Hill. And after that, We will have our mixtape episode. So for the two people that we're Looking forward to that, Too bad. And the two people, by the way, were Rosie and I. That's it. Not even Russ or Matt. They were like, I don't get this list. I don't. The texts were like, I don't want to pick songs. And I was like, what? No, this is the point. This is my idea. This is very fun. You'll have it. It's like me with kids. Like when I paid to go somewhere with my kids, They're like, yeah, I'm hungry. I'm like, you shut up. You will have fun here. And you will like it. That's me on this podcast. I'm like, you'll love this episode. And that is it.
[1:31:00]So the next thing you can look forward to Is turning off this podcast And going to listen to a different one Because you were a friend of ours And listened to this whole thing. We appreciate it. That is it for today. Next time we have Joni Mitchell blue. And that's what, by the way, I want to say this. If you are a person who is listening To albums before we do the podcast, Let me know because I want to see if there's Actually anybody doing this. It's kind of an interesting fact. And that was a great way to ruin all the momentum For the end of the show. Nice work, Rob. Hit those. They call me the human break master. I hit the break. Break master is not a real thing. Breakman. There we go. And I did it again. God, I'm so good at my job. It's crazy. When you want to hear about The greatest albums of all time. But you're just too lazy to look it up online. If you want to hear four guys are chatting, Then they get off track. I've got the perfect podcast for you, Jack. Beck did it better. Wait, is this Joni Mitchell blue or Eiffel 65? I'm blue. I'm blue. Da-bootie da-bootie da-bootie da-bootie da-bootie da-bootie.
[1:32:00]That would be so great if our whole next episode Is just us breaking down. So wait, he went to the house. What color was the house? Well, the house was also blue. You know what else is exciting? Is there's a trumpeter named Blue Mitchell, So we can really get into that as well.
