Queen: A Night at the Opera (1975)
[00:00]in 2020 four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest albums as decided by rolling
[00:08]stone magazine the greatest 500 albums that's two weeks in a row i've screwed this intro up
[00:14]uh this results in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the order and led us to
[00:18]making this podcast we are far from experts we promise to do almost no research all opinions
[00:22]are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy beck did it better we are all the way
[00:28]up to album 128 and from 1975 it's a night at the opera now guys i actually wrote an album called
[00:37]night at the operation okay k-n-i-g-h-t it stars the honorable circumcision and many
[00:43]critics are given a foreskin out of five not one that hangs down though right a foreskin out of
[00:50]five now actually that reminds me i actually had just recently had a doctor's visit and he told me
[00:54]that i had a medical weird medical thing going on i had a i instead of a four
[00:58]skin i had a five skin it's so big i keep my keys in it when i go swimming all right listen we don't
[01:03]have enough time for all these hilarious jokes okay a five skin it's a big foreskin
[01:09]hey where are my airpods
[01:13]it is i mean it would be good to have a place like where do you put your keys when you go
[01:19]swimming is it that's it that's true that's especially if you get your fob in there from
[01:23]your car that's what i'm thinking on top of the back tire yeah on the passenger side okay now
[01:28]i'm gonna have to beat that out man leaving that at the beach i've simply put in a thing of french
[01:34]fries on the roof of my car and that doesn't ever seem to go wrong at the beach all right let's turn
[01:39]on k speaking of the car speaking of the beach okay let's head to the beach let's let's turn on
[01:44]the tunes okay and here oh and actually speaking of cars let's turn on some tunes and listen to
[01:51]k-rop and you know what guys let's take a drive to the beach let's go to the beach let's go to the
[01:53]beach let's drive in my car while we do it here we go so i'm gonna do it what's up everybody welcome
[01:56]to k-rop k-r-o-b now i just went to the dealership and i gotta say i got a brand new car
[02:03]i love going to jiffy lube and i got some extra floor mats oh yeah i went to the dealership
[02:14]and they said to me
[02:19]we've got
[02:23]a new car
[02:24]i think it's just what you need
[02:29]you seem kind of stressed
[02:34]it's got the finest latex
[02:39]this is the newest model to come in
[02:44]it's like the hummer but a new version
[02:49]i get jacked off by the
[02:53]by my car
[02:54]i love the way the interior feels
[03:00]it's six strokes but i can't get that far
[03:04]it makes more than the tire squeal
[03:10]there you go
[03:10]props yeah i don't know if you guys caught the double entendres there but
[03:18]so subtle humor yeah
[03:23]the one thing the dealer said he said don't put that car in reverse
[03:29]it's a joke earlier but you guys were talking over it all right listen what's up this is
[03:36]we are talking about queen finally finally we've got a queen album and it's a night at the opera
[03:41]it's kind of a fun album i don't want to spoil my ranking my rating system um but i've got three
[03:47]guys here who were telling me earlier they liked adam lambert more than freddie mercury guys that
[03:51]is a hot take i love it uh russell in minnesota russell how are you doing
[03:55]rob this episode has just begun but now i've gone and thrown it all away i didn't mean to make you
[04:00]guys cry but if i'm not back again this time next episode carry on carry on our listeners are all
[04:08]that really matters
[04:10]oh i thought we were all finishing it um i've got aaron out oak town aaron how are you doing
[04:19]oh you make me live now honey let's talk about it
[04:21]queen i've got matt minneapolis and i realized i did this backwards so actually it turns out
[04:27]uh and now i got to reverse this joke here matt's matt's wife actually did shit i screwed this up
[04:33]matt's wife actually completed a nine month bodybuilding program did you know that man
[04:38]she actually i heard she did it twice yeah she she had two kids she had two kids bodybuilding
[04:42]program uh matt in minneapolis how are you doing well this makes even more sense now after that
[04:49]joke rob i want you to please please
[04:51]spare me my life from this monstrosity of a podcast thank you from this monstrosity
[04:59]we've got lots of voicemails okay that's not a big deal don't worry about that
[05:02]it's not a problem it's actually fine like on a scale of one to zero how big is the problem rob
[05:09]i would say zero actually zero is a very fitting number for the problem that we have with the
[05:15]number of voicemails uh see man we were all we were nice to all the listeners and it worked for
[05:20]about two weeks
[05:21]yeah the losers they like being treated like little pigs that they are those sickos we are
[05:27]doing an air in air out i will have put in the theme song this will all be working just fine
[05:31]it's time for everybody's favorite game show air in or air out
[05:36]we want to hear about the crazy things that aaron say how he doesn't use the dryer he don't use his
[05:45]microwave we want to figure out what this aaron guy's about
[05:51]so aaron we are going to ask aaron some questions and aaron please don't answer until we've guessed
[06:02]has aaron done or not done these things okay so let's let's check is our okay our bell is working
[06:10]we will see aaron first thing for aaron or air air out has aaron ever gotten a speeding ticket
[06:17]a speeding ticket russell what do you think is aaron now look at him what a sweetie
[06:21]has he ever gotten a speeding ticket man that's a tough one i don't think aaron's a reckless driver
[06:27]i don't think he's probably a guy i i don't imagine aaron's ever been going like 90 i think he told us
[06:33]once he got that new car is up over like 60 something so i don't think he speeds regularly
[06:37]but given how old he is there's he's probably gotten a speeding ticket at some point i'm gonna
[06:42]say yes okay matt what do you think aaron or has aaron gotten a speeding ticket i'm guessing that
[06:49]the high quality
[06:51]driving lessons he got when he was riding around with uh eric collinsworth
[06:55]definitely he does never he he's he follows the law he's never gotten a speeding ticket ever
[07:03]all right uh i am going to say you know what i bet he did get a speeding ticket thinking about
[07:10]aaron getting a speed ticket actually brings a smile on my face teenage aaron getting pulled
[07:13]over he's got like a trombone in the back seat you know what he would say to the police officer
[07:17]what would he say what's that i'm in love with my car
[07:21]i would like to be see aaron be like more of a am i being detained guy you know put the put the
[07:28]thing up against the glass that the cop has to read just guarantee that he's gonna get a ticket
[07:32]aaron did you ever get a ticket a speeding ticket i think the answer is no i'm pretty sure i've never
[07:41]received a speeding ticket can i tell you a story about a ticket that i did get however
[07:45]all right if it's to a concert you don't understand what a speed ticket is this is
[07:49]actually a different if it's to the hit if it's to the hit 1997 keanu reeves movie that's a different
[07:55]speed ticket you know i had a real i had a real tough time with the minneapolis cops when i lived
[08:01]there which is weird because they've turned out to be a full like a really upstanding organization
[08:05]since i left so they're obviously fine like the problem was just with me for sure uh i had some
[08:10]problems with the minneapolis cops so i got i got a ticket for turning left on red uh no not left on
[08:18]red i was making a left uh between seven and nine a.m from you know those lake like at lake and
[08:24]lindale where you couldn't turn left from between seven and nine i got a ticket for that no that's
[08:29]when the orphanage crosses the street every day that is the definition of a chicken shit ticket
[08:33]right there and the cop did this move where instead of flashing his lights behind me he he
[08:38]went around in front of me stopped his car and then got out of his car and motioned me to like
[08:43]it was awful right so so awful that i forgot to pay the ticket itself
[08:48]and then six months later i was driving to the mall of america and i got pulled over because
[08:53]they ran my plates and i had an outstanding ticket i got an outstanding ticket and they
[08:59]would not let me drive i had to leave my car at the mall and take take the light rail and the bus
[09:05]back home and go to the court so that i could so no i don't think i ever did you at least get to
[09:11]eat at ruby tuesdays aaron's usually guys get some rainforest cafe he's like he's like all
[09:18]i have on this train home are these hulkios that's all i have hey man the hooter the wings
[09:23]and hooters are good right rob yeah so no i don't i don't think i ever got a speeding ticket but
[09:29]my one ticket that i got turned into a real fucking fiasco i think aaron knew it was bad
[09:33]when the cop came around and he said she's at my cherry pie puts a smile on my face
[09:39]10 miles wide and aaron goes oh no that's warrant uh all right it's a warrant all right
[09:48]so uh next oh i forgot i'm doing a game show here okay so next up oh don't i have game show music
[09:53]oh my god i'm just dropping the ball all over the place i don't
[09:56]maybe you should have planned this out all right next up aaron or air out does aaron have a plastic
[10:04]bag or a bag full of bags under his kitchen sink okay is there a bag full of bags currently
[10:11]under aaron's kitchen sink okay russell what do you think does he have a bag of bags under his
[10:16]kitchen sink i would think that aaron and his wife use a lot of uh who did we talk about these last
[10:22]time tote bags yeah i feel like there's no way aaron uses plastic bags or paper bags at a grocery
[10:28]store or at other stores i think he's got to use burlap sacks those types of things but i don't
[10:34]know if he stores them in a bag i don't think he stores them in a bag i don't think there's a
[10:38]container underneath the sink that holds bags i'm gonna say no so i think russell is confusing aaron
[10:43]for a mid uh medieval peasant who's hauling around grain for his surf liege okay with burlap sacks uh
[10:50]matt what do you think does he have a bag of bags under the sink no way there's no way that he uses
[10:55]plastic bags out there this is an insane take you guys are all wrong everybody's got bags in bags
[11:02]under their sink that's something everybody does okay it's like the bags are fucking down there
[11:06]there's more bags every time you open the damn door they're like gremlins in there everybody's
[11:10]got bags of bags okay because what else are you gonna store bags in i don't know i don't know
[11:13]i mean it's it's right there aaron do you have bags of bags under the kitchen sink
[11:18]no we have bags all over the house but under the kitchen sink we have a bag of rags
[11:25]uh that we use for cleaning rags i did not see that coming the bags we have a drawer that has
[11:31]reusable uh we have a drawer that has we do wash and reuse ziploc bags we got a drawer full of
[11:36]ziploc bags we got compostable bags in this cabinet over here and then the other bags
[11:43]are up in the pantry above the refrigerator so no bags under the sink and do you have any tags on
[11:49]your rags in the bags under the sink i don't want to brag but we do have a fair number of tags
[11:55]hey aaron can i ask a question i mean this respectfully like
[12:01]yeah so it's about the ziploc bags i know it is in your life for you so maybe matt and rob maybe
[12:07]you guys do this maybe i'm the one who's out here but uh re so you wash ziploc bags and reuse them
[12:13]and do it oh yeah that one was i mean i applaud you i just could never do that that couldn't i
[12:19]couldn't have that be my life that one is uh that one i will give credit to my my lady on that one
[12:26]that's not what i would have thought of myself and uh the fun part about that is that he's good
[12:31]mostly where we've acquired are the ziploc bags are like if we go stay at an airbnb we'll just
[12:36]grab an extra ziploc bag or two and then we just reuse them until they fall apart and then you get
[12:41]you are stealing ziploc bags for me
[12:43]an airbnb never using they're there for you to use like what else are you gonna do with them like
[12:47]they're there to use you're stealing them dude this is like going to an all-you-eat buffet and
[12:52]backing up a trunk and like well you use it you like pack a sandow for the day and then you just
[12:56]bring the bag home and you use it until it falls apart or so you like marinate some chicken thighs
[13:01]you don't steal an extra three and like take those from the airbnb give away all my secrets please i
[13:06]hope that none of the oh my god they have no bags because of you what a dick they probably a plastic
[13:13]they probably also don't have that's why they have a drought out there is they're using all their
[13:16]water to clean out plastic bags by the way russell i want you i want you to take tips from aaron
[13:21]to see aaron is truly he's a pro married guy if you noticed he said that wasn't my idea i have to
[13:29]give credit to my wife i wouldn't have come up with that that is some unbelievable wordplay there
[13:36]to just really just convey his message yet if you read it it looks great but his message was
[13:42]clearly conveyed to the rest of us great work erin that was unbelievable that was i mean i gotta i
[13:48]gotta salute you you're a general of being married nice job hey rob we naval salute you
[13:54]uh so aaron i do i also have to follow up with the ziploc bag shit okay uh at what point do you
[14:02]throw away a ziploc bag it's like so are you marinating chicken and then cleaning that bag
[14:06]and reusing no no no so i the it the the ziploc bag lasts until i use it to marinate chicken
[14:12]okay or until the zipper no longer closes they they wear out at a certain point and then yeah
[14:18]you have to get rid of as well as i do want to let you guys know i i gifted the most recent tote bag
[14:25]to my lady for her birthday and got re-reviews so if you're taking notes fellas bagu bags hold on
[14:32]hold on hold on wait a minute i mean you gave her the same thing public radio does what the
[14:36]fuck kind of gift is that your marriage you suck at marriage nice bag i'm telling you i'm gonna
[14:41]bring it to las vegas if she'll let me have it i'm gonna bring it to las vegas if she'll let me have it
[14:42]i'm gonna bring it to las vegas if she'll let me have it i'm gonna bring it to las vegas if she'll let me have it
[14:42]i'm gonna bring it to las vegas if she'll let me have it i'm gonna bring it to las vegas if she'll let me have it
[14:42]granny hall of fame you guys can see it granny hall of fame nice bag so here's the thing right
[14:47]is you gave your wife a tote bag for a gift and you dare to tell russell what he should do ever
[14:53]for gifts you're like i told russell what to do you guys mocked me because i wanted to give like
[14:58]an iou for concert tickets what have i ever told russell what to do you should give your wife the
[15:04]same thing she gave a trader joe's like i'm not sure you understand the quality of this bag i'm
[15:12]thanks no there's a zero percent chance i say that because we have a thousand tote bags that
[15:18]we don't use was this the only gift you gave your lady for her birthday no no it was not okay now
[15:24]what do you think of russell's tote bag russell's holding up a tote bag is this the quality that you
[15:28]gave to your wife well i'm not gonna say that my well that that was a cold reserve bag that's a
[15:34]one-of-a-kind you can't top that yeah it's true you got that at the wave swap here did it have
[15:39]like a ford trucks logo on it or anything was it like a ford trucks logo on it or anything was it
[15:42]like a sponsored bag that you gave her no it's from the wine shop so it has you know
[15:46]so all it does is holds bottles all right this one is not a bottle holding bag no they i might
[15:53]have to go back because now they've released a bag with a two bottle slot in there but
[15:58]aaron's looking up from bags tote bags monthly he's looking up oh my god sweetie the new bags
[16:03]are in rob this is only question two of air in or air out this isn't aaron's going that's already
[16:08]that's already out of this episode okay does aaron next question
[16:12]does aaron have a case on his cell phone does aaron use a case on his cell phone now russell
[16:17]what do you think what's your first of all russell what's your thought about cases on cell phones
[16:20]i just find a case something that holds it or like just something that encases the
[16:25]cell phone it's not he's not raw dogging it with a cell phone okay yeah he's not raw dogging it he
[16:31]cannot feel what steve jobs wants him to feel that smooth glass on glass action well i guess
[16:37]maybe i'm crazier i just thought 99.99 percent of people had a case on their phone i'm gonna
[16:42]assume i'm gonna assume aaron is a yes aaron's an active guy he's probably got his phone on him when
[16:46]he bikes maybe or when he's doing his exercises i bet he he has to have a case it's you know what
[16:51]the weird thing is his case is a reuse is a ziploc bag uh matt what do you think it does he have a
[16:57]my case is actually made out of recycled ziploc bags no matt was murder the case that he put on
[17:03]his phone right i i went about six months without a without a uh case on my phone it slips all over
[17:11]it's it's weird but it's a rush isn't it like you feel it feels good it feels right it's a rush but
[17:16]you know you're being a bad boy you can't do it as it currently sits today rosie definitely has a case
[17:22]on his phone rob are you there you know what i think a case i just think that it's it's just a
[17:31]little too fancy for aaron i think he does i think he does secretly want to kind of be that bad boy
[17:37]he's walking around no case on his phone okay maybe he's gonna maybe he's gonna tote
[17:41]bag for it yes a tote bag for his phone that sounds really really good aaron do you have a
[17:47]case on your phone i have used a ziploc bag from the tahoe airbnb as a uh phone holder while on a
[17:55]stand-up paddle board and i would love to be that bad boy but i have also in my life
[17:59]dropped my phone in the toilet so i do use a use a case on my phone because i do not want to drop
[18:05]my phone was it was it was it in that blue water toilet water in a porta potty or regular
[18:11]i don't know what to say i don't say i may have got to edit it out
[18:15]can you imagine elizabeth holmes is like oh i heard they wrote a song about me better listen
[18:19]to the episode also known as the baby in the in the porta potty episode i'm sure she'd be very
[18:25]surprised to know that that's the kind of thing that ends up on these episodes i'm sure she had
[18:29]much higher opinion of all that's so weird rob was in charge of the smart club in college so
[18:33]that's strange that he took this turn i'm actually president of the smart club thank you
[18:39]captain of the chivalry team back then last things have changed
[18:41]last one last one i should have put this one third not as good as the phone one did aaron
[18:47]ever own a drug rug did aaron ever own a drug rug now what's it what's it i'm getting some looks
[18:53]about what a drug rug is okay so i'm going to show you as rob has used this term before and
[18:58]every time we've been confused is this a drug rug so as you can see this is also known as a baja
[19:03]hoodie i'm not gonna say that one uh but it is a drug if you go to etsy and search drug rug you
[19:11]that guy in high school who sold drugs that's this is what he's wearing does did aaron ever
[19:17]a drug hug drug rug or baja hoodie russ what do you think i i think i know the answer is yes i
[19:25]feel like aaron had some sort of similar type hoodie type thing in college that he would have
[19:31]worn man maybe the pet it's hard to tell like what's the difference between that and a hooded
[19:35]sweatshirt no it's definitely very distinctive i'm gonna still say aaron aaron has had
[19:41]one i bet he i'm gonna say yes i think he has all right i mean guys look at all these drug rugs
[19:45]they got these are great you guys didn't call them drug rugs uh matt what do you think did aaron ever
[19:51]own a drug rug uh yes i think he definitely did definitely i think he was i think this is this
[19:56]was standard operating i'll tell you take just take this jacket right here russell okay this
[20:02]one right here this green and red one and i want you to slap some purple john lennon glasses on
[20:08]that person now does that remind you of aaron okay and the answer is yes
[20:11]aaron definitely owned a drug rug aaron did you own a drug rug not to my recollection i've owned
[20:17]i've owned many pairs of birkenstocks but i don't think i ever owned a drug rug i should have now
[20:22]that i look at it well aaron have i got a surprise for you okay i got you this this brand new ziploc
[20:28]bag it's a whole gallon bag actually you could put a lot of stuff in there you could find one
[20:34]of those made out of recycled plastic bags i bet you could find one easily rob did we have any drug
[20:40]rugs on the the now taken drug rugs i don't think so i don't think so i don't think so i don't think
[20:41]down beck did a better shop did we have affected a better drug rug or not excuse me the beck did a
[20:46]better shop is still going okay feel free to go to the shop yeah it's absolutely it's still up
[20:50]it's still selling things we have sold a total of three items and i put it in a robot voice because
[20:55]i'm going to edit it every time we sell one i'm going to go back and edit this episode and
[20:57]re-upload it so uh all the money goes to charity so you guys not buying stuff from there you're
[21:02]actually bad people that was air in or air out now let's get into rolling going better than a
[21:08]voicemail it's time to see whatever
[21:11]everybody's up to it's time for rolling going oh yeah uh aaron rolling going how's it going with
[21:21]you uh it's going great um we it's been a few weeks now but i really only have one one item
[21:28]tonight that i want to discuss and that is um a couple weeks ago we took uh before we went to the
[21:34]midwest for christmas we took a couple days and went to the mountains uh and we did uh one morning
[21:40]of cross-country skiing i'm not sure if you've heard of cross-country skiing i'm not sure if you've
[21:41]not good at cross-country skiing but there's a nice place there that does groomed trails and
[21:46]it's pretty easy it's fucking hard yeah like it's really definitely realized that i need to be taking
[21:51]lessons if i'm going to try this again but and that's actually what uh is this is the subject
[21:56]of my rolling going so we're out there uh beautiful day sunshine 40 degrees the trails are groomed
[22:02]it's gorgeous so we got out a little ways and we saw this group of three people uh out there
[22:09]doing the skate step
[22:11]skiing so these are people who are pretty fit doing you know the real stuff and it definitely
[22:16]appeared to me now i know matt has matt has said in the past that if he's at a restaurant and he
[22:21]overhears conversation he cannot tune it out and i i definitely i can relate to that and i also then
[22:28]if i see people in a situation i always have to fill in the blanks for myself about like what's
[22:34]really going on in their situation right so this group that's out there is a woman probably our age
[22:41]a man her age and then an older guy with him and it really appeared to me that both the woman and
[22:48]the older guy super know how to cross country ski and the younger guy who is a very fit guy he's
[22:53]wearing like the tights his legs look like he's an adonis but he is not that great at cross better
[22:59]than me but not that great across can i go ahead rob can i tell you what you think the situation is
[23:03]you think that the dad that's the daughter's dad and he's out taking the fiance or boyfriend out
[23:10]cross country skiing which is
[23:11]russell's absolute nightmare that would be russell's worst case scenario you got it rob you
[23:17]absolutely nailed it it is what i think too yes it is girlfriend boyfriend girlfriend's dad she says
[23:25]just come out just my family's got this place in the mountains we're gonna go cross country skiing
[23:29]for the day my dad will teach you everything you need to know it's gonna be great is this a nightmare
[23:34]scenario for anyone else on this phone call tonight horrible no can you imagine anything
[23:41]worse than having to be like yes please teach me how to do this and i'm okay with you being way
[23:47]better at it than me humiliating right you cannot you absolutely cannot let your father you need to
[23:54]avoid that situation at all times if the girlfriend's dad has you in a dominant position
[23:59]you're done okay you're done if anything when you go in there you need to give that guy a firm
[24:05]handshake till he drops to his knees and begs you for mercy you need to show that you're the
[24:10]dominant one in this whole relationship you need to show that you're the dominant one in this whole
[24:10]relationship you need to show that you're the dominant one in this whole relationship you need to
[24:11]show that you're the dominant one in this whole relationship well let's i mean we should go
[24:14]through this yeah we've got the time what because i because i remember it's not so much like cross
[24:20]country skiing but we're everybody's always put in these situations right meeting the in-laws
[24:24]meeting the families or something where you are forced to do something that you absolutely do not
[24:29]want to do the first time i met sarah sarah's dad said we'll come on over for dinner and he
[24:35]made enchiladas he thought it was safe i fucking hate enchiladas
[24:39]i fucking hate enchiladas
[24:41]hate him right he thought it'd be a nice safe thing right enchiladas and so i had to sit there
[24:47]and essentially choke down a half an enchilada just to not offend sound like an asshole right
[24:54]kind of a deal and so everybody goes through those right i mean if you guys had rob did you go through
[24:59]that at all or rosie did you go through it at all russell you got any good experiences i'm picturing
[25:03]matt asking for one and a half enchiladas at the uh one half it's so difficult you should have seen
[25:10]you should have seen it one and a half enchiladas at the uh one and a half enchiladas at the uh one and a half
[25:11]it's so difficult you should have seen denny freak out i mean how do you cut one and a half
[25:14]enchiladas oh that's so weird your dad can't cut one and a half enchiladas and all of a sudden boom
[25:20]you're back on top baby i've not had the specific experience that i was watching this young man go
[25:25]through where he's actually like he's out there on the hill and his prospective father-in-law is
[25:30]trying to give him pointers on how he's like saying oh you gotta get your hips into it this
[25:34]way or you gotta flex your ankles but um i had the experience where my my father-in-law now was both
[25:41]he farmed and then he was the superintendent of schools so like oh this guy is really smart and
[25:47]he also knows how to do whatever the fuck so what like what do i have to tell this guy cut the balls
[25:52]off the stuff that you don't know how to do all the stuff i don't know how to do aaron welcome to
[25:57]my house thank you for coming over i hope you had a good ride over here now aaron i'd like to ask
[26:01]every one of uh aaron's wife at gmails.com boyfriends what is your major in college aaron
[26:09]what is your major in college
[26:11]oh well it's um music i'm a bachelor of music oh they're paying money these days for this type of
[26:17]job what you're a bm and you're definitely going to use that in your future right you're not going
[26:24]to become middle management or something like that right upper middle management i certainly
[26:28]would never be leading from the middle
[26:30]so anyway i never had that specific experience but it was a general type of fear for me so i
[26:39]was really i was really feeling for me i was really feeling for me i was really feeling for
[26:41]that guy and i wanted to like reach out and try to help him out but i you know the moment passed
[26:45]what's up man i suppose at some point you kind of got to like maybe get behind your date and make
[26:49]some kind of you know maybe stare at stare at how she's looking in like the ski pants and kind of
[26:55]look at the father-in-law and kind of just give him a look like no you didn't that's what i'm
[26:59]you would know that night because when your wife is making love to you in her childhood bed it would
[27:04]be disrespectfully you know i mean like you could tell she's lost respect just how she's having sex
[27:09]with you kind of like
[27:11]i think you would need to boss you around you get back you pull the bat matt wasn't didn't
[27:16]didn't your father-in-law see you getting some water out of a fridge and your underwear one
[27:20]morning or something like that early in the morning no that's no uh sarah tricked me into
[27:25]staying over and said and i said i just don't want to see your father i just don't i don't
[27:30]want to i don't want to wake up see your dad well he gets up late he'd be fine whatever so i got up
[27:34]at 5 45 and yep sure enough he's sitting right at the kitchen table and just says hey and i said hey
[27:41]yeah do you have any gatorade
[27:44]and not that quick trip kind give me the
[27:51]the holiday kind it's true can i borrow some toothpaste
[27:56]yeah i got this in my mouth aaron i'm begging you to change please i cannot
[28:05]rolling how's it rolling that's like that's like are these reusable ziploc bags
[28:11]how's it rolling going with rob aaron says if it's used as a dental dam out that's what the
[28:16]marinated meat he's cut it up okay how's it rolling going with russell rolling going things
[28:23]are going good i think i told you guys this the other day i actually uh we talked about this maybe
[28:27]a few months ago i went to another dinner in the dark the other day dinner in the dark
[28:31]you and me no stop i now that one i know i forgot i forgot you it exists you have to edit that one
[28:39]i know i have oh my god
[28:41]maybe and i knew that you'd done this and i didn't go find it wait a minute wait a minute
[28:47]oh my god am i gonna have to go find that and stick it in
[28:52]that's what she said we are both going on a date tonight just russell and me
[29:00]when i ask him where we're going well he just smiles and says you'll see we are going steady
[29:11]i look at yelp to see pictures of food and to get beat back
[29:18]but all the pictures are the same they're all just squares that are black i order spaghetti
[29:27]russell and i are eating in the dark chowing down snack and slices of pork why did i wear
[29:39]nice clothes
[29:41]in the dark has played and i've made it sound good sorry this is the second time i've been to
[30:10]dinner in the dark it was at the
[30:11]commodore again the commodore's in st paul it's kind of got this old great gatsby type feel i
[30:16]don't know back you know when was that 30s 40s somewhere in there or something like that i'm
[30:20]roaring 20s roaring 20s but it's got a very cool bar perfect place to do something like this and
[30:25]i get there this time and this time they're actually doing uh pairings with the dinner
[30:32]in the dark so they're pairing either a cocktail or a wine and so i had to see what you guys
[30:37]thought so there's kind of like six options you could go with
[30:41]there's a meat dish fish vegetarian and then you can go a wine pairing or a cocktail pairing with
[30:51]each of them so if you had the choice what would you pick for food and would you take the wine
[30:55]pairing or the cocktail pairing to go with it gotta go gotta in the dark gotta go can't go
[31:01]fish in the dark i gotta go meet i need something that's gonna and a cocktail i would be interested
[31:05]to see what they pair i would go if it wasn't sam it would depend on the
[31:11]fish to me if it wasn't salmon just too much salmon you don't know you have no clue what it
[31:16]is though so for risk you take man you know why would i keep that sound clip of eating the dark
[31:23]song why would you there was a zero percent chance it was gonna happen for a second type
[31:26]fuck yeah um so i think i i would i would probably go if you if i wanted to be on the
[31:36]safe side to meet in a cocktail aaron what would you pick uh
[31:41]i'm gonna go fish with the wine pairing so when i've gone before i went with a foodie again and
[31:47]so each time we we will pick a different food and we figure we can always try to pass back and forth
[31:51]plates in the dark if you will right so one meat one fish we decide we'll each get we'll go one
[31:59]cocktail and one wine pairing but then i figure why can't we just add one more pairing yes are
[32:06]they gonna say no yeah just say hey we want to add another pairing you had the simpler place
[32:11]you went the full this you're doing the trying it's not a pairing it's try try three try the
[32:21]trying menu try so what we do is we go meat with the cocktail fish with the wine there we go and
[32:30]then we add the pairing for the wine but with the cocktail so now we've got two rounds of
[32:36]cocktails coming the whole time yes and one round of wine coming the whole time is that correct
[32:41]badass or that's smart that's just smart thinking can i guess what the can i guess what the fish and
[32:45]wine pairing was i could yeah i've got the menu right here do you guys want me to let you guys
[32:50]know what it was of course i'm gonna go it was halibut and chablis okay i'm gonna say i'm gonna
[32:58]say salmon and a rose oh there we go yeah geez i don't know probably i was gonna go some sort of
[33:06]white fish like it we'll just go halibut and i don't know what what what pairs of
[33:11]cab i don't know what pairs of that all right i'll give you the the appetizers this is a three
[33:16]course meal for the seafood it was scallops as your appetizer and it went with the drink rob
[33:23]maybe you might want to pull up my james brown music here and i'll give you guys the ingredients
[33:26]the the the scallops were paired with a dry sherry alorso
[33:33]rhubarb amaro nice and lemon rosemary perfume
[33:41]this was a fantastic cocktail i i don't know for sure but i think i may have ordered another one
[33:46]we may have ordered an extra round russell steps outside he's like wow the outside is black too
[33:52]it's like no sir you just had three cocktails in there for the entree can i ask you this
[33:56]russell real quick real quick yeah are scallops the scariest thing to eat in the dark that would
[34:02]be terrifying to have the texture of scallops scallops touch my lips and then say oh i'm
[34:06]gonna put this in my mouth and chew it eyeballs or scallops yeah which is the big
[34:11]thing like oysters or clams yeah i mean that's a scary texture isn't it
[34:16]it worked out it was good did you just use your hands this time i did use my hands again oh yes
[34:23]love it oh my god so the second the second dish was your entree for seafood it was mackerel
[34:29]oh mackerel holy it was actually really it was like a piece of fish it was really good
[34:35]it's kind of sticky and it went with the skin do you have the skin on it it was lightly cured in
[34:40]seared crushed fried potatoes horseradish mousse pickled mustard seeds and dill that's delicious
[34:47]so no skin because that would be terrifying no there was uh there's skin on the picture
[34:52]you're gonna sear it there's gonna be a skin oh my god russell you just ate a bunch of fish skin
[34:57]you didn't even know it dude wait why wouldn't you fish skin i love eating fish skin you probably
[35:02]wait you're eating fish skin aaron why the fuck is he seared it's delicious for sure
[35:08]man it's with me he doesn't
[35:10]eat the fish skin man you and me baby five skins so rob this one was paired this also
[35:16]had an optional cocktail pairing mango horseradish infused tequila what the fuck
[35:21]there we go with a with a dill perfume and a salt chili rim oh yeah that's a drink yeah
[35:30]mango what was it mango mango horseradish infused tequila jesus christ i don't think i've ever
[35:40]said those two words next to each other in my life so there was a dessert too i don't think we need to
[35:47]go over all the desserts and everything but um the one thing that was different about this time the
[35:51]last time i went to dinner in the dark they gave you a blindfold and it was like a long blindfold
[35:56]that would you see in like a an erotic film or something i was just gonna say an erotic film i
[36:02]was gonna say the same thing one that you would pull around your head and then you tie off in the
[36:06]back oh you got me going this time we got there and there was a different type of blindfold
[36:10]instead of the tie in the back it was like a sleep mask you know like the wealthy person sleep mask
[36:17]so so they had you wearing like a sleep mask what is the what is the cheap sleep mask look like
[36:23]russell i'm just saying like like people who are blue collars people who are living paycheck to
[36:29]paycheck are paying for sleep yes you know what i'm saying times were tough we were putting elmer's
[36:34]glue in our eyes when we went to sleep that was our sleep mask okay we lived with it we liked it
[36:37]i could see rob you probably wear a sleep mask don't you oh absolutely
[36:40]i do when my wife is reading and i go to bed sleep no no i have i don't have one right now
[36:46]but i have one well i actually i my i had i had a nice sleep pillow that had lavender scent but
[36:51]that eventually wore out so it didn't have the sense the worst i cannot take it i my i bought
[37:02]my pillow it has bad breath scent i love the stuff matt hates i love when matt's just like
[37:06]like i just love learning about this eddie yeah eddie got some like little stuff to
[37:10]animal once and like it's supposed to heat it up right and so oh you're right it has a lavender
[37:15]it is just i don't know whatever it is it just stinks up the whole house i can't take it
[37:19]i gotta ask you this so before the dinner in the dark we got there we were sitting we were having
[37:25]a cocktail outside in the light before you have to put on the blindfolds before the the the dark
[37:29]comes out but so you had a cocktail before and then you were getting the cocktail and wine pairing
[37:34]inside rob we'll just say i probably had enough cocktails by the end of the night we'll just put
[37:39]it that way enough
[37:40]is the right number don't count your so we're sitting there and this lady comes up she sits
[37:45]to the bar with us and she starts talking and she her husband was home with her kids she came by
[37:50]herself to a dinner in the dark and i was like man i'm all about like i don't care if if i have
[37:56]someone to go with i'll go do stuff i'll go to a game i'll go to a concert i'll go to a restaurant
[38:00]that stuff doesn't bother me but would you ever go to a dinner in the dark by yourself
[38:05]i mean i guess you might as well 100 no
[38:10]no this is the ultimate sign of a loser no offense russell okay but you cannot be going to
[38:17]aaron or a swinger or the 100 sign of a swinger if any of you went to it well no no you got me
[38:25]thinking here man that's a good idea actually go to dinner in the dark and somebody who likes
[38:31]putting on blindfolds and yes experimenting with new things i don't know and later that
[38:36]night their hands taste like scallops i mean this is a dream come true
[38:40]okay this is great uh getting hammered off these cocktails i would say if any of you went to a dinner
[38:45]in the dark i would stop stop down the podcast and we would have an intervention we would ask
[38:50]you if you need help we would ask you whatever because that is not matt aaron you think you
[38:54]could do a dinner in the dark by yourself yeah hell yeah that sounds fun would you do an escape
[38:58]room by yourself like that's a craziest idea that's like a communal thing you just show for
[39:02]the escape room yeah nobody else wanted to come they'd be like that's the saddest story i've ever
[39:06]heard but would you you might say tell aaron he's not allowed to have a drink in the dark
[39:10]at the bar by himself rob then oh no i think eating in a restaurant by yourself is baller
[39:14]it's an ultimate move okay yeah i used to do it all the time in college and my wife said she was
[39:18]impressed by it so again low standards but what can you do i love eating by myself by myself i
[39:24]love seeing a movie by myself i'll go see a movie by myself but but aaron you wouldn't have a problem
[39:28]with the person the dinner in the dark they wouldn't be a loser as rob called them no because
[39:33]i would think i would probably i don't know like i'm a sap i'd probably be like oh they're you know
[39:37]maybe they're recently widowed or you know oh god
[39:40]like you know what i mean like i would feel like oh maybe they got something going on in their life
[39:43]and they're doing what my husband left the house right dinner in the dark i certainly wouldn't
[39:47]call them a loser russell can i just say that you when you sent us a picture i don't know if i'm
[39:52]getting ahead of you here but when you sent us a picture of you at dinner in the dark yeah i laughed
[39:57]so hard and showed that picture to all of my co-workers what's so funny about it yeah rob's
[40:03]calling people losers and laughing at russell we might be speaking of needing a little intervention
[40:08]here rob
[40:10]talking to it's just russell in a restaurant with the it was the sleep mask that made it so funny
[40:15]yes the sleep mask made it hilarious that he was a grown-ass man out in public
[40:20]paying to be wearing the sleep mask while eating food it made me laugh so hard to be clear this is
[40:25]a mask over the eyes it's not like a c-pack machine or whatever the hell those things are
[40:30]called right back give me money to the candidate yeah well so at any time you could just move this
[40:36]mask and see your food right you could cheat i was gonna tell you
[40:40]last time i went i never cheated i kept my my mask or my blindfold on the whole time yeah
[40:45]i cheated this time and can i tell you guys why i cheated i cheated two or three times
[40:50]so the the first reason i had to take off my blindfold is we sometimes when you add an extra
[40:57]pairing to the menu that you shouldn't have got there's too many drinks on the table trying
[41:01]wine glass go during courts to wine glass down wine glass down on course to a full one it was about a
[41:10]full and i don't know how it it didn't get on anyone it it all kind of went into the table
[41:14]cloth there was no real worries but the wine glass went down i had to take it off right
[41:19]blindfolds got to come off right at that point doesn't it yeah i they're serving wine in a full
[41:24]stemmed wine glass that seems like just asking for trouble for me dinner in the dark dinner in
[41:29]the dark man but the other time i took it off was near the end of the night and we had it was the
[41:34]dessert course and so dessert comes to me i've got the the meat course so the dessert that i got with
[41:40]was a a king louis you guys know what a king louis is king louis what's a king louis it has a bunch of
[41:48]hazelnut in it hazelnut crunch red wine poached pear compote hazelnut milk chocolate mousse it's
[41:54]like a chocolate chocolate mousse type dessert or something like that and then the other one that we
[41:59]got was um a honey pecan citrus cake yes no honey cakes so here's here's why the blindfold has to
[42:10]so i get the cake first and i have a little bite out of it so our plan when we were there is we
[42:15]each take a little bite of each we trade other person takes a bite and then we kind of say hey
[42:21]which one do you want to keep right yeah and so i take a bite of the cake and i exchange with the
[42:27]foodie i'm with they send back the other plate with the with the hazelnut i start picking around
[42:33]with my fork spoon there's nothing on this plate right oh so i'm looking around then i'm using my
[42:40]hands put my hands around nothing on there this is erotic what i pick up my blindfold the foodie
[42:46]had eaten the entire dessert and passed me a bear plate oh no the whole thing ate it and i don't
[42:57]think they knew or were aware that they ate the whole thing because the blindfold was up and it
[43:01]wasn't like a huge oh no they definitely didn't know definitely they knew no definitely didn't
[43:07]know they ate the whole thing you got cats in the cradle on the soundboard
[43:10]but not in the dark yeah would you but if you were running a race would you high-five someone
[43:16]who ate the whole dessert at a dinner in the dark absolutely i mean to be that inconsiderate
[43:21]at a blindfold absolutely not so do you think they on purpose ate the whole thing and then
[43:27]handed you the plate i mean that's balls i don't think so i think they didn't realize how small the
[43:32]dessert was and just kind of got caught up in the moment but i had to take my blindfold up and then
[43:36]i was like what the fuck happened here what kind of fucker is this i don't know i don't know i don't
[43:40]by the way was it now again i'm picturing this as being very quiet was it quiet you know what they
[43:45]had music this time and it was actually a little bit louder and it was a little bit harder to hear
[43:49]so it kind of took away some of your senses so like when i spilled the wine glass i don't think
[43:53]anyone knew yeah except for me and then said oh you spilled the wine glass that's what i would do
[43:57]if it was in the dark i'd be like i can't believe you spilled the wine all right so so anyways it
[44:02]was really fun and the the commodore is actually doing a few more of them over the next few weeks
[44:06]so if anyone our local listeners want to check it out i highly recommend it
[44:10]we'll have a good time i promise it matt would you ever do dinner in the dark quick
[44:14]matt in or matt out would aaron ever do would matt ever do a dinner in the dark
[44:18]gonna say no aaron what do you think russ what do you think i don't think so but i've actually
[44:24]already answered and rob didn't hear it i know i heard it i'm gonna edit that out i thought i'm
[44:30]thinking about going back and getting the green vegan menu you should right you haven't done it
[44:36]just to check it out matt you don't think so
[44:40]no no what would they pair with that you're gonna go for this experience just to eat some
[44:45]lettuce and kale and shoots and stuff like that i can see the menu but i don't know if i want to
[44:51]ruin it should i i'll tell you and should i see what you guys think would it be worth it to check
[44:55]this out let's see the first course appetizer roasted pumpkin sunflower puree hazelnut and
[45:02]pepitas okay okay that's tasty all right so none of those those sound like a lot of decorations
[45:09]not much food
[45:10]to me actually that is paired with a charred hickory cinnamon infused rye boulevardier with
[45:14]cinnamon sugar and bruleed orange all right that sounds good that sounds good the entree is chickpea
[45:21]parisi citrus roasted carrots curried garbanzo beans chili tomato jam and onion powder something
[45:30]called onion powder something called onion powder for flavor it's onion powder it's just a thing and
[45:35]then matt the dessert would be a vegan chocolate cake yeah which is a good idea i don't know if
[45:40]just means black beans or flour oh matt i've been to one of these i've been to one of these dinners
[45:46]before guys let me tell you yeah the vegan chocolate cake it's not cake yeah russell i
[45:53]want to point out there that matt is not doing as well with the language okay his point is getting
[45:57]across to us just like erin's did but there is something to be desired for i kind of want to see
[46:02]what matt thinks so there's it's vegan chocolate cake with a vegan crunch layer what would that be
[46:08]matt the vegan crunch layer i don't know like uh like pits out of a seed like cherry pits
[46:14]almonds or something with and then there's another one i suppose that's a vegan chocolate ganache
[46:20]baba ganoush vegan chocolate ganache i would i would no milk
[46:25]scary so either way it was fun i would urge you guys to check it out sometime matt rolling going
[46:31]how's it going with can i just can i just pause you guys real quick i just want to point out i'm
[46:35]keeping this sound clip around i don't have eating in the dark because i was convinced that would
[46:38]never ever happen again i still have this list this one there's a better chance of me making a
[46:46]scary songs list and using this well you'll do them every year right right then there was russell
[46:52]eating in the dark tonight would be downloaded and then it would be good song though on october
[46:59]matt rolling going how's it going with you i'm gonna kind of take uh rosie's approach here and
[47:05]just maybe tell you a few things i bought this week and what i spent my money on and you know
[47:09]just to see love it um i'm gonna just ask real quick did you what did you use to buy this
[47:14]what do you mean what like did you use a credit card or maybe use an online site that helps people
[47:21]transfer money around um this is all let's just go all credit card on this one wondering
[47:27]rob was trolling for his venmo song
[47:35]a lot of hits out there that's good um we went to dinner at casetas tonight as a family you know
[47:42]it's tradition we go there delicious often we made the mistake uh there there was a wild game
[47:47]tonight we were not going to the wild game i thought we would get there early enough uh but
[47:51]getting there around 4 30 not early enough uh with a wild crowd that is a crowd that
[47:56]now it's out and starts drinking early did anyone come in and did anyone come in and
[48:00]immediately put on a sleep mask because they're confused about what they're doing
[48:03]did not
[48:05]to clarify i did wear the sleep mask after the dinner and i kept it on my head on the uber ride
[48:11]home as well oh my god so like i i i propped it up like a like tv like sunglasses like you're
[48:19]flying in my plane in world war one looking cool yeah so you're like here you're like we're gonna
[48:23]get those huns what does the wild crowd drink at casetas um i think they just go there for
[48:31]their pizza beforehand and then head over to the mcgovern's or some of the other you know
[48:35]places like that afterwards so they get their base you know before then going in for the seven
[48:40]o'clock game so yeah um i picked up a nice eddie bauer jacket at turnstile i think i'm like rob
[48:47]where i am obsessed with going to uh secondhand stores and just finding like awesome deals on
[48:54]stuff like i don't i don't buy a lot of stuff anymore but when i do i'm like okay i just love
[48:59]it so i bought a nice new eddie bauer kind of a winter puff jacket it's gotta be easy for you
[49:03]you're like a normal size person
[49:05]right like isn't there just so much stuff you could buy i'm worried that if i was normal size
[49:09]and i went to a goodwill that i would just buy everything because i have no this may surprise
[49:13]you i have uh very little self-control there's a band out of baltimore called turnstile you can
[49:18]hear them right now they sound pretty good they're nice hardcore bands oh yeah bangers
[49:24]um i got i got one of these new uh massage guns this week from sarah and the boys um
[49:32]this thing this thing's pretty sweet
[49:35]rob you got one of these massage guns that just essentially it's like just a rapid puncher into
[49:39]your muscles i i did that very cool thing where i adopted the massage gun technology really early on
[49:45]when they were still loud as shit so if you're ever using one every it sounds like you you're
[49:51]involved in some sort of solo sax you're in a sax solo for sure like it sounds like something is
[49:57]it sounds like somebody's doing construction on you and whereas the new ones are nice and quiet
[50:01]can you hear this can you guys hear that at all does it have different
[50:05]speeds yeah one two and three so it's i mean it's on right now so you bring it through customs
[50:10]for example does it ever go like this and then go
[50:14]that's the part where we can't even drop it this was before we couldn't hear it ever
[50:23]i mean really vibrators that sound like that old car alarm from high school like nobody's using
[50:32]those settings what the hell is that car alarm sound like
[50:35]i mean that's the same thing with the vibrators
[50:42]i think we've talked about this before but i do everything i can to not have like recurring uh
[50:54]like subscriptions or like recurring things that are hit your credit card you know every month but
[51:00]you know that kind of a thing
[51:02]but i finally i finally decided that um i was going to just going to go for one that i've been
[51:09]eyeing for like 20 years and this is kind of this is like high society i think for me okay this is
[51:14]one of one of the things that i've decided every time i go get my car wash at eddie's car wash it's
[51:20]like 24 bucks you know i get like the expensive one but for $19.99 a month you can get the deluxe
[51:27]they got basic deluxe yeah the works and then like the
[51:32]fancy one i forget what they call it but and so for $19.99 so i decided to finally pull the trigger
[51:37]and just get the $19.99 a month all you can all you can eat car wash and i've already gone three
[51:45]times in like four days and it's the greatest thing in the world so was that a birthday present
[51:49]to yourself because i should mention that yeah we'll go birthday wait we'll go birthday present
[51:53]for my birthday present yeah thanks oh yeah for man's birthday i went down the text chain and
[51:59]said whether or not i'd have sex with every person on the text chain and why are we not and then about
[52:03]halfway in i realized that me saying i wouldn't have sex with somebody would be construed as me
[52:06]being negative toward them so i actually felt bad about it so yeah you did drop about 15 put downs
[52:11]in about 10 minutes i would say
[52:13]you know matt that happened to my dad where he did some legal work for somebody in town who
[52:25]owned a car wash and my dad decided to get paid
[52:29]monthly car wash passes so he would go to he would go to the car wash like every two days he'd be
[52:33]like hey you want to go to the car wash we'd get in the car we'd go to the car wash we're having a
[52:36]great time and he was like i looking back it was kind of a tony soprano type situation where he's
[52:41]like being paid in car washes well when i had the pizza place way back in the day there was an sa
[52:47]super america that was in the delivery zone and this guy the guy who was like the general manage
[52:52]there he would say hey if i get like a pizza week i'll give you the i'll give you the uh the number
[52:58]just to punch into the car wash and he would go to the car wash and he would go to the car wash and
[52:59]the code so once a week he'd call i'd bring over like a pepperoni pizza but i had the code
[53:03]to just get my car washed anytime i was in that area and it was the great it's the greatest thing
[53:08]and he'd be like this pizza is sopping wet yeah you have to go through the car wash after you
[53:13]deliver it i don't know how many times we need to have this conversation rob rolling going how's it
[53:18]going with you guys i need to go into the advice corner oh okay into the corner it's time for
[53:25]russell's corner oh i have hit by the way i'm leaving in the delay i'm not editing it so it
[53:31]makes it sound like you guys are on time at all um i am at a part of my parenting where i need
[53:36]some advice i need some parenting advice i'm not sure how to what to do with this i'm not sure if
[53:40]this is a we're super equipped to parent yeah yeah we've all got boys and they're all younger than
[53:48]your kids okay so i guess maybe this is maybe this is a ghost of christmas future for you guys
[53:54]you're going to look into the future and see what's going on in the future and see what's going on in
[53:55]the future and see what happens what would you do in this situation okay and my kid is now 14
[53:59]okay four years left before she moves out uh she is on i she said oh dad look at this text i got
[54:07]from a friend right look at this text i got and it was some i don't remember what it was it was dumb
[54:10]but i look at her text chain name okay oh boy her text chain name is milfs capital m capital i
[54:21]capital l capital f capital s what okay
[54:25]and i was like your chat name is milfs and i'm thinking to myself is she saying dirty stuff
[54:31]just to get a cheap laugh because who taught who taught her that yeah what if it means something
[54:37]entirely different and then you have to tell her like oh well i thought it meant this and she's
[54:41]like no it means like oh no she knows exactly what it means okay now i would i do remind you
[54:47]this is the kid i sent to two weeks of middle school with the name norma stitz on her zoom
[54:51]because i thought it was a funny gag um but no she
[54:55]i said she knew right away she's like well i didn't name it milfs she knew it was not good
[54:58]and i said that to jen i said listen i said emily's on a text chain and it's called milfs
[55:05]and jenny goes oh she's not a mom
[55:09]technically incorrect yeah i was like what is that is that slander is that slander russell
[55:16]that would be slander yes there's a letter where i am there's a letter i'm much more
[55:22]concerned about than the m in that sense
[55:25]it's unbelievable that's i think it's like kids like to do you know funny ironic stuff i i think
[55:30]it's not the worst thing so if he comes so if wallace comes home and he's in a group of friends
[55:34]called milfs on his group chat you think that's fine i'm not saying it's fine i'm gonna ask him
[55:39]what the deal is but then you know it's like she let you see it so like whatever she's not
[55:45]showing you is way worse than that i can promise you no kidding and and do they come up with do
[55:53]they come up with something other than you know what milfs what we think milfs is i mean do they
[55:58]had do they come up with a funny acronym and then just be like oh it's milfs it's just like that
[56:04]right like did you ask her did that man i love feet i just came up with that just now it's like
[56:10]multis infrared laser friends or something yeah uh no society it's it's she i think here's a problem
[56:19]i think you guys think i talk like i do on the podcast like around my house all the time so you
[56:23]think my kids hearing about like like all the stuff i talk about here like the color of my
[56:28]balls the heat of my penis the general look of my balls okay the five skin is you know i think you
[56:34]guys think i talk like that all the time now did i have to record a song today next to my kids rooms
[56:38]about my car jacking me off yes okay and did i do that verse once and then not re-record it yes
[56:45]because i could not yell it again okay but my kid is not hearing the word milfs
[56:49]around my house all the time it's weird what are you talking about
[56:53]seriously you don't ever say to jenny like get over here you milfs let's do our
[56:58]weekly thing eric eric eric that's my milf you're talking about okay let's guys no god that was
[57:07]rolling though i'm sorry i hit the button we gotta do it again it's time to see what everybody's up
[57:12]now where is it easy in the dark all right let's talk about the album we're gonna rob's up at 226
[57:18]easter time
[57:19]recording the milfs episode
[57:21]that's gonna be about 326 what you don't see for 14 year olds has got to be way worse
[57:30]than some uh thing called milfs i think you're i think milfs is the least of your worries
[57:35]you know what when i think of okay so i was 14 in 1994 okay so let's look up top songs
[57:43]let's look up top songs of 1994 and see i will tell you right now
[57:49]was i jacking off in 1994
[57:51]this is like the competitiveness and rob where he needs to like out dirty his his teenage daughter
[58:02]right now he's like well i mean he's using milfs i need to i need to top or what what are we doing
[58:06]here you got bump and grind on there but you can see nothing wrong guys i don't think i jacked off
[58:13]to any of these videos i'm just looking i the sign by ace of base what about mariah carey
[58:19]what about what a man by salt and pepper would invoke yeah okay let's watch this hero mariah
[58:23]carey video and see if i jacked off for this was i would i be in a group chat called milfs in 1994
[58:29]oh yes i think you need to hit point oh is this the one on the black dress
[58:33]yeah
[58:36]i still think what a man is going to be a sexier video
[58:44]was that was that on there yes
[58:49]rob is there anything about this where she's performing in front of like a live
[58:53]studio audience that that hinders your your method listen you just have to you have to
[58:58]picture the audience is naked okay okay i can definitively answer this question
[59:06]i mean invoke and salt pep in the same video this is this is an unbelievably sexy video
[59:15]we should just watch this whole song this is i mean i mean and you know what it was the body suits
[59:23]i would i remember
[59:25]there was a woman in there was a woman that was in my school who wore body suits and it was so hot
[59:33]but she also beat up a number of boys in the school so if you were going to look at sydney
[59:40]romero you had to like kind of peek and she had she was respect to she looked like one of salt
[59:45]of pepper and she wore body suits in like math class and then she caught a kid looking at her
[59:51]ones and stabbed him in the hand with a pencil so it was like the most dangerous game god damn
[59:56]this video okay so yeah i would have been in a middle school chat 1994 easily so would your
[60:02]would your uh nickname have been spinderella oh that's one no wait spinderella oh no not
[60:10]i'm thinking of the one in creep that's wearing the gray pajamas you guys know what i'm talking
[60:15]about okay you're talking about maybe take a look you better just yeah guys all my all my mtv
[60:22]jackers out there you guys know what i'm talking about let's see the outro here we go what song
[60:26]oh creep creep by tlc with the silky face oh no it's radiohead yes here we go what i'm having all
[60:36]sorts of feelings i'm a creep i feel like a weirdo i know so who is this in the videos it's like it's
[60:43]like a fuck fest but like an underwear party
[60:45]yeah this this also gave this video gave me weird feelings about trumpets by the way
[60:51]nuts is cantaloupe
[60:55]whenever you hear that uh song trophies at the like nba and the nba championship you have to
[61:03]leave the room rob because this is a this is a this is a big time one too because this is one
[61:09]where you really had to time it i mean nice smoke it look at that unbelievable by the way i do want
[61:15]to once again aaron was doing the creep dance dance also i have to point out that that was
[61:19]chili who was married to usher raymond that guy's got it going on
[61:25]okay what year was this video okay 1994 so that answers that question for a second time once again
[61:38]um ask and answer i'm not gonna look up love shack
[61:45]i'm not gonna look up love shack we've all talked about the love shack story
[61:47]okay it makes it watching rupaul's drag race a weird one i'll tell you that uh listen let's get
[61:55]into a night at the opera okay so okay a night at the opera aaron none of this sicko talk anymore
[62:00]okay so queen had done queen did their first two albums queen one and queen two okay now their third
[62:09]album was named sheer heart attack and it had killer queen on it all of a sudden they're huge
[62:14]it's the number two hit in the
[62:14]uk it went gold in the u.s queen is starting to to kind of get bigger and bigger they had zero
[62:20]dollars and zero cents they made no money off those first three albums because they were stuck
[62:24]in absolutely the worst possible contract so queen made no money they got denied they were mad they
[62:30]left they found a new manager who said listen don't worry about this lawsuit stuff don't worry
[62:35]about anything else i am going to go and figure out all this stuff for you you just go and make
[62:40]the best album you possibly can and take your time and so all of a sudden they go out
[62:44]and they do the single most expensive album at the time ever made and all of a sudden it's this
[62:50]huge album it's recorded at like seven different studios and they come up with this prog rock this
[62:55]kind of progressive rock type album where it's all these different musical styles at one time
[63:00]but one thing that's the same is you can tell this is a group that has total control over what
[63:06]they want and a vision of like hey if we want to do silly stuff we're going to put on the album
[63:10]if we want to do a 10 minute fantasy ballad we're going to put it on the album like this is going to
[63:15]be our what we want and that's why it's queen's number one album on the list so far it's like
[63:22]their total artistic vision uh and it is like a it's it's one of these albums where it's rock and
[63:28]roll yet there's never a song that's just verse chorus verse chorus ever which is i mean it's it's
[63:33]crazy so let's um let's listen to night at the opera by the way brian may the guitar player has
[63:40]the most unbelievable guitar tone he's one of my guitar tone guys i love it
[63:45]this is death on two legs is this before or after
[63:51]yellow brick road it's so similar to love lies waiting as an opener right
[63:56]this is after right because that was 69 right this is 75 nice
[64:01]yellow brick road was in the 70s wasn't it was it i don't know it just feels like you know i feel
[64:10]like paul mccartney somehow looms large as an influencer for this album but it also just feels
[64:14]like yellow brick road was 73 so it's not that far to make it it's right it feels like these
[64:20]guys are all in conversation with each other and i mean you can tell this album is inspired by like
[64:25]sergeant pepper my life ending right like these big kind of sweeping ballads
[64:31]it does rock hard it's the return of laser beams there we got laser beams on this one
[64:39]laser beams
[64:40]all right lazing on a sunday so you go from that song right which is fucking blasting your mind off
[64:46]brian may has this amazing homemade guitar that he and his dad built and now you go lazing on a
[64:52]sunday afternoon rob's dad was just building disco balls with them brian may's dad was building
[64:55]guitars i don't like the way this conversation i mean what the fuck is going on here guys yeah
[65:03]this is paul mccartney i'm telling you like it's the model you're totally right but is it isn't the
[65:10]deal with this album like all four of them are writing and contributing songs so it's just it
[65:14]doesn't feel like we've listened to a lot of like concept albums the last few times where it's like
[65:18]clearly they're all kind of conveying the same thing and this is all over the place yeah this
[65:25]thing is so wild it's fun though i mean would you rather do this or ray charles where it's the same
[65:31]song over and over or even way more fun yeah i mean even dare i say uh who's the one we did two
[65:36]albums ago my life mary j blige i mean i kind of like this where it's taking these huge wild swings
[65:41]this is more of a bc boys paul boutique where you got a bluegrass right in the middle of it
[65:45]i'm in love with my car this was written by the drummer and sung by roger taylor the drummer
[65:50]yeah who's who's singing this rob i didn't i didn't know roger taylor the drummer he sounds
[65:56]great right yeah i mean i know freddie mercury is one of the great voices ever but this guy sounds
[66:02]great this is a fantastic song isn't it yes
[66:06]so this was the b-side of the single for bohemian rap city so taylor made a shit ton of money off of
[66:16]it because when they were trying to figure out what to put on the b-side of the single taylor
[66:19]locked himself in a cupboard and wouldn't come out until they agreed to put the song on it comes
[66:24]out bohemian rap city is a massive single taylor makes a shit ton of money because he sold the
[66:28]other half of the single he sold as many copies as bohemian rap city and it eventually became
[66:33]such a big deal in the band it was part of the reason why they had a bunch of
[66:36]friction later all you gotta do is just lock yourself in a closet until let's get your way
[66:40]is that what we learned from this did i ever tell you i had a friend who he he was like oh i do this
[66:45]funny joke where i sit in my closet in college and i film my roommate and i just sit there and
[66:51]i film him well he's and i always thought to myself like that would be terrifying that would
[66:56]be yeah because sure enough good idea the roommate started unbuttoning his pants and he had like come
[67:00]out of the closet like that would be such that would be such a buzzkill it's like almost hearing
[67:04]like the creaky stare
[67:05]you know when you're watching creep it's like gotta get a pillow over here all right you're
[67:12]my best friend this is the second this is written by the bass player john deacon this to me is just
[67:20]like the classic queen sound this is like it's the harmonies the synths and then freddie just
[67:26]doing stuff that only freddie can do i mean there's a ton of vocal harmonies on this with
[67:31]freddie harmonizing himself but brian may on guitar it was really common for him to
[67:35]harmonize his own guitar and multi-layer it which is why his guitar tone is so unique i read that
[67:41]mercury was playing the or whoever's playing the pianos uh playing a worlitzer but when they heard
[67:46]it they didn't like it so they kind of overdubbed it with the bass is my understanding i thought that
[67:51]was pretty cool i think you're right russell it is kind of it's like it's living in the the post
[67:56]sergeant pepper's world where so much music was made in the studio where or in you know after
[68:01]the fact it like they're not recording they're definitely recording things live but all of a
[68:05]sudden the studio becomes its own instrument it's true yeah uh this is 39 it's kind of a sci-fi
[68:12]sea shanty this is cool as shit like this is really i didn't i didn't know this song
[68:17]and this became a big sing-along song for them in concert it's really catchy isn't it
[68:23]who's singing on this one
[68:25]is this for this is brian may yeah he's a guitar player also may sings backing vocals from mercury
[68:35]and taylor okay and they actually deacon the bass player also played the double bass on this
[68:41]i read that they asked him hey you should play the double bass it's like a joke and then like
[68:45]three four days later he showed up with one and was learning to play it so good it's a great song
[68:51]i don't i don't know if these guys like i don't i remember watching the movie or whatever i don't
[68:55]know if these guys got along through the creative process but this just seems really fun doesn't it
[68:59]yes it really does it seems like they're having a blast on this album taking some risks and trying
[69:04]stuff yeah sweet lady this is by may this is in three four he's like i want to rock write a rock
[69:15]ballad in three four times yeah you got like this fast rock song this is just this is fantastic this
[69:26]you know we've talked before like hey if i had one of these songs on my playlist i'd be happy
[69:31]this is its own playlist yeah that's true right
[69:34]you
[69:34]matt what do you think of queen are you a fan yeah you know i like that last song that's sweet
[69:42]that's the stuff i don't like of theirs it sounds too much like i don't know you know just kind of
[69:48]like every other band i'm thinking of like boston or boston yes that's a great i love that you know
[69:54]who's the band that wears all the makeup with gene simmons kiss kiss you know i mean there's
[70:00]some song like and it's just like you know but
[70:03]i think it gets lumped into that too much but obviously the cool crazy uh off the wall
[70:11]eclectic music is just unbelievable and to have freddie mercury's voice with it is uh it's it's a
[70:19]great album well you can tell they're not just talented they're like musically yeah gifted like
[70:24]they understand what's going on and then that's how you can get a song like this that i love this
[70:28]song seaside rendezvous
[70:29]seaside rendezvous
[70:33]i like this this was so bizarre yeah the first time i listened i was like this is so horrible
[70:41]and then about a minute later i was like this might be my favorite song on the album it's so fun
[70:45]yeah i mean you picture russell he's like walking down the street listening to this
[70:48]he's got a hat with a big bow on it he's eating a big lollipop he's like
[70:52]isn't this the part where they're they're they're making all the instrument sounds with their voices
[71:01]right like it's a kazoo it's a trumpet trombone that's amazing right yeah i mean they're obviously
[71:08]going for a pastiche but it's like it's it's so interesting uh this is hey one could rob could
[71:15]you jump to the beginning of that one quick the seaside rendezvous
[71:18]i love that piano and we've kind of heard that sometimes before that's called a jangle honky
[71:29]tonk piano or attack piano it's where they put the tacks on the hammers of the piano and it creates
[71:34]that that kind of different oh cool sound if you will right um and we've heard this on a number of
[71:41]albums before but before we get into those i thought we could do a list yes celebrate the
[71:46]greatest songs with the jangle piano or attack piano that's fun oh man this is gonna be a great
[71:53]list i can already tell to think that russell is going to do a list on seaside rendezvous makes me
[71:59]so happy so we've covered you cover this album i did a parody song on i love my car russell's doing
[72:04]a list on seaside rendezvous brilliant you could have picked about a dozen things from that seaside
[72:09]rendezvous to to do a list on but so we've heard this before i think the rolling stones used it on
[72:14]wild horses the beach boys have used it before fleetwood mac um aaron's son i don't know if it
[72:19]was on the album we listened to but elvis costello used a lot of tack piano yeah uh neil young's used
[72:24]it one of matt's favorites but uh the first one we're going to start with on the list is we've
[72:29]talked about this once before and it was from 68 the beatles who were definitely an influence on
[72:34]queen um remember the end of rocky raccoon yeah let's check this part out
[72:39]yes isn't that awesome little honky tonk piano sounds great oh i love it
[72:47]we should always be listening to this pin piano russell now i know what to search for when i want
[72:56]to get in a good mood it's fantastic i actually read uh is it brian man from queen yep he was in
[73:02]he was talking about how uh the beatles had influenced them so much and he actually said
[73:06]that the white album was the album that really helped queen find their musical direction so i
[73:11]find it hard to believe that yeah that tack piano in rocky raccoon didn't influence them to some
[73:15]extent the only problem listening to that piano right is if you're listening to this piano
[73:19]and you're in a bar and all of a sudden it would just stop playing
[73:25]you'd never hear it again
[73:26]no somebody just walked in who was bad news okay like a like a like the villain of the movie
[73:31]well nowadays it's if the record scratches right that's true you know
[73:36]next song on the list is from a few years later this is 1973
[73:42]from paul simon the album the song is kodachrome oh oh this is a all right piano there i hear it
[73:51]no it's it's a good song it's got a big kind of here
[73:56]back there yeah yep oh that's nice
[73:59]man this was uh recorded in muscle shoals the with the rhythm section
[74:07]oh down there i thought that was interesting the swamp guys um can you imagine a guy who
[74:13]should be around the swamp guys less than paul than paul simon like you know those guys like
[74:20]we're stuffed him in a bag and put him on on a fan boat somewhere like you fucking nerd
[74:25]get out of here
[74:26]like the only guy more the only guy that makes paul simon look cool
[74:29]is uh garfunkel art garfunkel
[74:31]next song on the list this is also also in 1973 so what wasn't when was it 75 put in your book
[74:42]uh yeah yeah so this is again another one right before this album it's faces ooh la la
[74:49]oh so good i love the faces i can remember trying to sing this in rob's apartment rod did you have a
[74:57]karaoke video game uh no we were recording this with my band that i was in okay
[75:03]it's hard to sing now you might wonder rob have you ever played this song in a bar in northern
[75:11]minnesota on guitar while the bar listened to you the answer is yes you for real oh absolutely that
[75:16]was one of my lead singer of that band rod stewart who's the lead singer of that band
[75:18]rod stewart who's the lead singer of that band who's the lead singer of that band who's the lead
[75:19]singer you know that's okay that's what yeah yeah all right it's rod stewart is the lead singer but
[75:23]also ronnie wood i believe wrote the song and also sings lead vocals on a lot of the songs
[75:28]um he was a member of the rolling stones right matt he was with faces here he was also a member
[75:34]of the jeff beck group we talked about jeff beck last week so i thought that was interesting but
[75:38]i thought the real interesting thing was this guy ronnie wood he went to college at
[75:42]ealing art college in london the same place where freddie mercury went to college in the 60s
[75:49]oh wow that's so you could be in a you could be in a class with freddie mercury and ron wood
[75:54]that fucking rule i'm stuck with you guys i'm doing a podcast with you guys i could have been
[75:59]with them fuck all right next song on the list this is a guy who played with the beatles we've
[76:04]talked about before he's one of aaron's favorites this is billy preston nothing for nothing beatle
[76:09]it's a great song yes listen to that jay that piano is that badass i mean he's one of the greats
[76:17]i love this song
[76:19]this is russell after that dessert at the dark the dark restaurant
[76:27]great song the soundtrack to russell's chocolate booze
[76:36]all right the last song on the list so there's there's i was reading about these these pianos
[76:42]and so sometimes it's attack piano and those are designed to actually sound like honky-tonk pianos
[76:47]but my understanding is a honky-tonk piano is a honky-tonk piano that's a honky-tonk piano that's
[76:49]a honky-tonk piano is a little bit different where they detune the strings or something like
[76:53]that they're messing with the strings they're not putting tacks on them but it's a similar sound so
[76:56]the last song on the list we got to go with our own former the greatest intercontinental champion
[77:01]of all time this is the honky-tonk man's theme song you hear that you hear that piano in the
[77:09]back there got it the honky-tonk man song was deleted from my list that's back brought it back
[77:19]along with edie in the dark
[77:20]so a lot of great songs that just kind of show the awesome the awesomeness that uh
[77:32]that queen's using with some of the instruments they're the greatest thumb
[77:35]tack piano songs ever
[77:37]russell that's the second best tack piano list i've ever heard that's incredible
[77:43]those are good songs yeah i love really good yeah the tack piano is fun there actually aaron there
[77:48]was one by the funkadelic i believe it's shoot i forgot the name of it dollar something dollar
[77:54]you know what i'm talking about uh yeah
[77:58]we can it's from america eats it's young yeah but i can't remember the
[78:05]name of the song now funky it's called funky dollar bill so good from america eats it's young
[78:12]that's the name so good aaron pulls funky dollar bill has a tack piano i could be wrong funky
[78:17]dollar bill from america eats it's young that's the name of the song funky dollar bill has a tack
[78:18]piano aaron just knows that on the top of the yeah that's the best yeah i'm getting email from
[78:29]them every month i almost played it and was gonna say earlier well we're gonna play this song
[78:37]because we're probably gonna skip this album on air in a few weeks when we get to his oh my god
[78:42]that'd be so funny you're not skipping megabrain you assholes that's good yeah that's gonna be
[78:46]another youtube special for you russell so next week my understanding is we're gonna try to be
[78:50]recording a live episode from vegas with the with oh my god lightning flashes new mother cries i
[78:56]can't believe we're doing the live album finally i love maybe what we should do is just why don't
[79:00]we just skip the live album let aaron go solo for like a 90 minute on funkadelic a solo aaron
[79:06]episode would be gold i wouldn't even edit it i just put it out just hear this guy go
[79:11]oh my god oh it's a funky dollar bill oh yeah everybody knows that song
[79:16]we have the longest queen song we have the longest song on this album and you might be saying wait
[79:20]isn't bohemian rhapsody on it yep you know eat shit bohemian rhapsody this song is longing here
[79:25]it's the prophet song now this is a a genre of rock that i love which is progressive rock
[79:32]that's mystic so it is about hobgoblins and whatnot russell i love the zeppelin influence
[79:37]this this song was an absolute crusher too it's so good yeah it's it's a lot like flash
[79:46]the theme for flash gordon all right a banger of a song
[79:50]it's crazy they've got these eight and six minute songs the album's only 43 minutes though
[79:58]brilliant brilliant should be the only kind of album thank you vinyl now aaron would i say this
[80:05]is right if i said that the middle part of this song has a canon with just freddie mercury's voice
[80:10]what's a canon
[80:12]sounds like a round to me it's like a round yeah it is around right
[80:17]oh aaron are you a bachelors of music or am i okay am i actually a smart guy this is why i was
[80:23]president of the smart guy club you're a smart guy that's what aaron's father-in-law said when
[80:29]he told him he went to me he's like so tell me about these canons he's like what are you talking
[80:32]yeah i will not talk about my wife that way i was just gonna make that same exact joke
[80:42]but listen to this this this album is out of this world
[80:46]i mean the fact that i want to listen to this anybody else doing this i'd be like absolutely
[80:52]not this is weird so i have a real question for you guys though here so i'm really enjoying this
[80:58]i think you guys are too how do why did the critics not like this why is this not way higher
[81:03]on the list what am i missing here i think it might be your thing russell with with not that
[81:09]many hits on it right there's just better there's it's not that many hits on it right there's just
[81:12]it's kind of like what matt was saying about splitting the vote there's so many good queen
[81:16]songs but they're all on these different albums that i think it's tough to pick a
[81:20]higher don't and i think people don't love that they're so flashy in a way i think people
[81:29]they do stuff to kind of show off and people kind of like pomp some critics yeah critics
[81:34]maybe don't get it i don't think they're clearly defined either like they're not a rock and roll
[81:39]band or they're didn't yeah you know they're not a city all this stuff right
[81:42]where you've got led zeppelin is a rock and roll band it's got some you know things like that and
[81:47]so i don't know but they're more rock and roll than like a true progressive rock band like
[81:51]like pink floyd right like they're they're harder than them but it's it is tough to classify them
[81:57]yeah love of my life thanks rob this is where i spent quite a bit of time looking for debbie
[82:06]beck you guys hear that harp at the beginning oh you mean you just heard it well you know what we
[82:11]should do let's go back in time and listen to this song again
[82:13]i had a whole bit planned out but uh i forgot what it was
[82:21]his voice god dang guys i'm gonna have a pretty controversial take freddie mercury is a good
[82:31]singer he turns out to be a pretty good rock and roll singer right yeah i believe aaron put him
[82:35]aaron i believe aaron put him on the the mount rushmore last week when he trashed ray charles
[82:41]i'm kidding aaron didn't trash i don't think i trashed ray charles
[82:48]slander russell that's slander
[82:50]good company this is may again singing
[82:56]now
[83:00]the song is the same we got a ukulele now look at this album
[83:05]so wild what more do people want now now listen brian may said that he came out you know the
[83:11]last song we heard they had voices playing all the instruments on this song brian may said i wanted
[83:15]to make a jazz song but all the instruments are my guitar so listen to this it's all guitars
[83:21]drums in there yeah the drum yes the drums are like what's supposed to be like the
[83:34]trumpet or you know trombone is his guitar super cool
[83:37]i don't know if it's super cool
[83:41]like i don't know if like if my kid's roommate was playing this in college that song when i walked
[83:45]in for the first time i'd be like i kind of sounds like a they might be giants song well no come on
[83:50]that's hurtful you know that uh next up bohemian a little song you may have heard it okay bohemian
[83:58]it was on a lot between uh party on rob party on rob party on russ
[84:04]this they had a 24 track
[84:11]i believe this one used 180 overdubs this song they say the tape was running so thin they were
[84:18]afraid it was going to break and basically they gave it to this dj kenny everett who was a advisor
[84:24]of theirs and they said you well to give you this song but you can't play it which seems like an
[84:28]insane thing this seems like it might be a fake story but he played it 14 times over a single
[84:32]weekend and at the time the record company was demanding a radio edit of this and he played it
[84:38]and people kept saying when is this going to be released when is it going to be released we love it
[84:41]and so it came out as a single as a like a seven and a half minute single
[84:45]was number one in the uk for nine weeks
[84:48]crazy and then they were supposed to be on top of the pops but they couldn't because they're
[84:55]like we're gonna make a video and send it to you okay so they made the bohemian rhapsody video which
[85:01]of course has them all singing and like the mirror effects that was seven years before mtv
[85:05]queen was one of the first bands to do a music video it is wild there's a music video for did
[85:11]before wayne's world absolutely no i don't think so but i mean how old were we when wayne's world
[85:16]came out it was like 94 92 92 yeah a two years before creep i don't know how worldly my worldly
[85:24]my music knowledge was at the age of 12 didn't know whether i would have known this or not but
[85:28]this i mean this came out right when i got into music if someone argues this is like a top 10
[85:35]song ever it's legit argument right it's a banger it got all the way up to the top 10 songs ever
[85:41]to uh four after wayne's world yeah because freddie mercury died three months after wayne's
[85:50]world came out and so it was kind of a it's kind of weird how it came out in the same
[85:54]timeline he did get to see wayne's world too because that's what's weird to me is i remember
[86:00]watching i remember watching him at the live aid concert and i remember queen as a band i did not
[86:08]know this song but maybe you know memory is funny so i don't know
[86:11]yeah that means he did get to see it to your career or whatever with the alice in chains
[86:16]with the snake in the movie right showing the shitty beatles hey you guys know one thing one
[86:24]thing i've been into recently i actually sent you guys a text over this a few weeks ago um i have a
[86:29]new favorite band yeah and it's dr teeth and the electric i have gotten so into the that muppets
[86:37]band yeah and i just can't stop listening to it i've listened to a song called can you picture
[86:41]that about two dozen times and over the last week i can't get enough of this band and i found out
[86:47]that they actually covered bohemian rhapsody so rob there's two sound clips can you go to the first
[86:52]one we got you guys got to check out them covering this song sounds good sounds real
[86:59]yes
[87:04]wow
[87:10]wow
[87:11]We'll be right back
[87:12]no offense russell but anytime you make fun of me for listening to the mv giants i will not be
[87:16]accepting that criticism dude it's that this is so good i have such this is the best band in the
[87:24]the fact that they need to get an album on the top 500 list for dr teeth me like the man
[87:28]but the coolest part of this song and the coolest part of probably the end of bohemian rhapsody
[87:33]is the gong right so rob play the end of dr teeth and the electric mayhem here
[87:41]the gong at the very end what a way to end the album right chief remind me to stop setting up
[87:51]these video conferences all right all right we don't want to get
[87:54]wow russell i spent a it turns out ray charles was on the muppets a few times and he sang with
[88:04]kermit the frog but i couldn't really get a good take and it didn't have dr teeth and the electric
[88:09]mayhem but just i'm giving our listeners a chance to get a good take on dr teeth and the electric
[88:09]mayhem but just i'm giving our listeners a chance to get a good take on dr teeth and the electric mayhem
[88:09]but just i'm giving our listeners a chance to get a good take on dr teeth and the electric mayhem but just i'm giving our
[88:10]just i'm giving our listeners a chance to get a good take on dr teeth and the electric mayhem but just i'm giving our
[88:10]just i'm giving our listeners a warning there is a search going on every week now for dr teeth and
[88:15]the electric mayhem to get them on the episode happening i love it that's what we need russell
[88:20]another bit on the show that we need to do every week definitely a good idea next up a song called
[88:26]my country tis of thee okay it's not called anything else god's instrumental right
[88:32]no it's god save queen
[88:36]this song it's
[88:40]i gotta admit i think it's kind of fun to hear it i i wish you would have ended on the gong i wish
[88:47]you would have ended on the gong that's like the perfect ending to a song in the whole album right
[88:51]this is pretty good though it's pretty badass
[88:55]it is really fucking fun like when the u.s played england in the world cup
[89:03]to hear this song and the star spangled banner that is a great
[89:07]anthem match that's it's awesome
[89:10]all right let's get into the rating system
[89:13]that and then jimmy hendrix's star spangled banner oh yes
[89:17]star spangled banner not that great of a song hot take listening to all the other national
[89:26]anthems at the world cup i was like some of them are pretty badass they don't make me have to sing
[89:31]too high including did i ever tell you guys i used to practice i told you this right i used to
[89:34]practice i used to practice the national anthem in my shower all the time because i was a teacher
[89:40]at a school so i just want to be clear what my age was i was a teacher at a school and i would
[89:44]go to basketball games and i was like what if they can't do the national anthem and they need
[89:49]somebody out of the crowd to sing it i want to be ready now i want to repeat i was about 28 at the
[89:53]time where i was doing this we had a uh we had an english teacher mr weeby at richfield who had to
[89:58]do it a couple of times he would just he would do the scorebook see for basketball games legitimately
[90:03]they couldn't get it he would just picked up the the mic and started singing guys i would have
[90:09]thought they would have asked the broom
[90:09]ball coach kim nederlucky kim nederlucky nope didn't ask her didn't ask her why not we knew
[90:17]so that mr weeby so many richfield teachers now guys that's why i'm part of the smart club so
[90:22]because i knew i was able to sing it in planning ahead actually did you ever sing
[90:26]sing god save the queen or the national anthem at an event i don't know that i did i i might
[90:32]have done the anthem at something here and there here here and there but it wasn't something i
[90:36]got asked to do very often maybe that says something about my career
[90:39]listen if you think this album belongs at 128 okay this is the perfect place for it
[90:48]okay a night at the opera ah yes good finally 128 this is the perfect place for it it's a great
[90:54]album fun funky well not really funky but fun and weird and like mystic i think it's fun
[90:59]if you think this is the case if you think it's perfect uh rolling well toned
[91:04]okay if you think this album should be higher up on the list okay guys it's got
[91:08]bohemian rap city it should be way higher on the list that would be a rolling bone to get
[91:15]so that'd be a higher number actually that would be a lower number because again we are doing this
[91:19]podcast and it's just getting worse and worse as we go so something to think about okay uh and is
[91:25]this or is this a rolling groan you did not care for this you did not think it was very good
[91:29]let me know aaron what do you think rolling well toned rolling bone or rolling groan
[91:34]i think this album is super fun and weird it's the album that launched when
[91:38]it was released in the early 2000s high school show choir shows we've not really heard anything else like it since maybe sergeant pepper or the white album um freddie's voice is is freddie's voice it's the only one like it so i think it is rolling well toned you're gonna die bitch not that freddie it's a different freddie you're talking about yeah i guess i should be clear i was talking about freddie mercury now picture this okay and i don't like doing these bits right during the ratings because they usually go off the rails but what if
[92:08]you're gonna die bitch not that freddie it's a different freddie you're talking about yeah i guess i should be clear i was talking about freddie mercury now picture this okay and i don't like doing these bits right during the ratings because they usually go off the rails but what if
[92:08]I fell asleep tonight, and in my dreams
[92:11]was Freddy Krueger
[92:13]in the front of Queen.
[92:15]I think it would sound
[92:16]a little something like this.
[92:19]Scaramouche,
[92:21]Scaramouche, bitch.
[92:22]Did he really say bitch
[92:25]that often? I've never seen a Freddy Krueger. Oh, yeah. He was always
[92:27]saying that. Did Freddy Krueger?
[92:28]Not respectful. What is
[92:30]knife, scissor hand, just cut up microphone
[92:33]cords left and right?
[92:34]Can you imagine
[92:36]him at Live Aid, and he's prancing through the middle
[92:38]of the... That's not going to work, yeah.
[92:39]Yeah.
[92:40]Trying to think of anything else
[92:44]that Queen would say.
[92:45]We will rock you, bitch. Nailed it.
[92:50]Okay, good job, everybody. Way to
[92:52]come together on that and support me with my bit.
[92:54]Thank you so much. It's too late, Rob. It's too late.
[92:56]It's never too late,
[92:58]man. Matt, what do you think? Rolling well-toned, rolling
[93:00]bone, or rolling grown?
[93:01]I think this is rolling
[93:03]well-toned. I mean, you know, I think
[93:05]we're getting to the point, obviously, where
[93:08]it was real easy in the
[93:10]first, call it, 40 to 50 to
[93:12]see how influential these albums were.
[93:14]I think
[93:15]it's hard for me to know if it was
[93:18]that influential
[93:18]before Wayne's World, or if, you know,
[93:21]the whole world now knows Bohemian
[93:24]Rhapsody because of Wayne's World and all that
[93:26]stuff. That's my take on
[93:27]Bohemian Rhapsody, right?
[93:29]Whether other people knew or not. I do nothing about
[93:32]it until Wayne's World. I think it's one of the greatest
[93:34]movie scenes ever when they're driving around
[93:36]singing Bohemian Rhapsody.
[93:37]Yeah.
[93:38]I loved it. So, for that reason,
[93:40]I think it's rolling well-toned
[93:42]at 127 here.
[93:44]Russell, what do you think? Rolling
[93:45]boned, rolling well-toned, or rolling grown?
[93:47]For me, this is everything
[93:49]I want in an album on this list. It's such
[93:51]an adventure. The songs are all over the place.
[93:53]There's all these cool instruments. You
[93:55]have an amazing frontman, an amazing singer,
[93:58]and, like, the guys playing the instruments
[93:59]are, this is just badass, and every song
[94:02]is interesting to me. I never got bored.
[94:03]We've had so many recently where you get
[94:05]about halfway through, and I'm like, I need a break from
[94:07]this one. I could just keep listening to this
[94:09]thing over and over. So, for me, it's
[94:11]rolling boned. I think it should be higher on the list.
[94:13]For me, it's way higher on the list.
[94:15]I don't really get why it's not way higher. I just don't
[94:17]know if it's not enough of a concept album or
[94:19]what the deal is, but I
[94:21]love this. I'll come back and listen
[94:23]to it over and over.
[94:24]College Vibe album? No, right?
[94:27]It's too all over the place.
[94:28]Right? I mean, if you
[94:31]could cut it up. Yeah, you'd have
[94:33]to think about it. I don't know.
[94:35]I don't know if this is going on the Winamp.
[94:37]I would just love Rob sitting in his
[94:39]room when all the people are coming in. He's like,
[94:41]Love of my life!
[94:43]Hey, guys. Come on over. Hey, it's a screw
[94:49]tonight? Great. Let's go. Are we going to go bowling?
[94:51]Screw. I think probably
[94:53]a College Vibe album now. I think when we were in
[94:55]college, it was still
[94:56]Bohemian Rhapsody was still too
[94:59]fresh from the Wayne's World
[95:01]experience that we just would have been like, oh, you're
[95:03]just, you know. And I don't know if
[95:05]18-year-olds when we were kids were into,
[95:07]like, the jangle piano ukuleles
[95:09]and stuff like that. I don't know
[95:11]if it's true. That only gets normal
[95:13]when you're 42 years old, Russell, to get way into
[95:15]the pin piano and look up maybe a list
[95:17]about it. Normal stuff. You did it. You made it.
[95:19]Listen, guys. I'm into it. Unfortunately,
[95:21]you're all wrong, okay?
[95:22]This song
[95:25]is a rolling
[95:28]recorded off the radio station.
[95:30]Recorded off the station?
[95:33]This is the first song I ever recorded off
[95:35]a 106.9 KROC.
[95:37]I can still remember the DJ talking at the end of the
[95:39]song. I think about it every time.
[95:40]And it just started my trend
[95:43]of not, of
[95:45]using other people's intellectual property without
[95:47]ever paying a dime.
[95:48]Okay? Whether it's me
[95:50]downloading movies for my kids,
[95:53]using Winamp or college, or
[95:55]photocopying textbooks at work,
[95:56]I love to take something that someone has worked
[95:59]hard on and use for my own gain and pay absolutely
[96:01]nothing.
[96:01]Except for this podcast, which of course is educational
[96:05]and is making a critique and is therefore a fair
[96:07]use. So, something to think about.
[96:08]Next up.
[96:11]That was good timing. Next up.
[96:13]We're recording an episode or two
[96:15]in Vegas, okay? If it all goes well.
[96:17]Okay? We may
[96:18]have some edibles. So, we have
[96:21]to pick a normal album. Okay?
[96:23]Let's just pick a normal album that's not going to weird us
[96:25]out, okay? When we're all in somebody's hotel room.
[96:27]Okay? It's not going to be over
[96:29]powering, okay? It's just a normal album.
[96:31]Let's look to see what it is.
[96:32]Let's see here. Oh, good. It's The Wall
[96:35]by Pink Floyd.
[96:37]What do you want to hear about the greatest
[96:39]albums of all time? Mother, do you think they'll
[96:41]make me drop the ball?
[96:43]Just too lazy to look it up
[96:45]online.
[96:46]Mother, do you think they'll try to break
[96:49]my balls?
[96:50]I like the idea
[96:53]of you guys coming into my hotel room after I've been in
[96:55]an all-you-can-eat buffet. That's the only meal I've had all
[96:57]day. Beck did it better.
[96:59]Hey, I know, Matt, we're supposed to meet tomorrow
[97:01]to watch the game, but don't worry. I'll be there
[97:03]on time. I found my
[97:05]keys right there on my five-skin.
[97:07]So I'll be there.
[97:08]Oh, he's shaking the keys.
[97:10]It's time to say
[97:15]goodbye.
[97:17]Man, I love friends.
[97:23]You know what? That's what I'm going to
[97:25]call this group chat that we're in.
