Pink Floyd: The Wall (1979)
[00:00]But we're recording.
[00:00]I can't see the screen.
[00:02]There's a red light.
[00:02]Okay, perfect.
[00:04]I don't know what it means.
[00:05]Dong got waved.
[00:08]Do you want me to tell you what's going on the screen every time?
[00:10]In 2020, four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums
[00:15]that's decided by Rolling Stone magazine.
[00:16]This resulted in a tech chain that celebrated the music,
[00:18]excoriated the order, and led us to making this podcast.
[00:21]We are far from experts.
[00:22]We promise to do almost no research.
[00:24]All opinions are our own unless you disagree.
[00:26]Please sit back and enjoy.
[00:29]Rebecca did it better.
[00:30]We're all the way up to album 129.
[00:32]And from 1979, it's the album that used to be the biggest, best wall
[00:37]until that guy Aaron voted for made a bigger one.
[00:38]Thank you, President Trump, is what Aaron's shirt says.
[00:41]It's not even done.
[00:42]That wall's nowhere near completion.
[00:44]You're following?
[00:46]You're following?
[00:47]Do you get daily updates here on that email list?
[00:49]Yeah, I'm on the list here.
[00:51]I subscribe to the sub staff.
[00:53]Yeah, you get to do that.
[00:54]Oh, God damn.
[00:54]Aaron, is this why you planned the vacation for January?
[00:58]So we could celebrate January 6th, Aaron?
[01:00]Yeah, we missed January 6th.
[01:01]We're here for January 20th, which is also a pretty good day.
[01:04]And let's, guys, you know what?
[01:05]Listen, to everybody out there who's wondering why we sound so different.
[01:08]We are, the four of us, let's give each other a high five.
[01:10]High five.
[01:11]Live.
[01:12]High five.
[01:13]High five.
[01:14]This is so weird.
[01:14]This is so weird looking right into your eyes, Rob.
[01:17]I can't take it.
[01:17]And you might think, oh, boy, we're really excited to see each other.
[01:20]Yeah, we were 48 hours ago before we hung out together 40 hours straight.
[01:23]So let's just turn on K-Rob in the hotel room.
[01:25]Rob, are we going to be able to move away from the high five each side?
[01:28]You were just a full-on circle jerk before the end of the night or not?
[01:30]Are we going right or are we going left?
[01:32]I would much rather go towards Russell over here.
[01:34]So let's go right, okay?
[01:36]That's the math.
[01:37]Oh, no.
[01:38]Aaron, you're in big trouble.
[01:39]My knee is a robin's egg, Rob.
[01:44]I'm not like you.
[01:46]It would be called a square jerk because there's only four of us here.
[01:49]So that's something to think about.
[01:50]All right, let's get into K-Rob.
[01:53]Recording in a Vegas hotel room.
[01:57]What's up, everybody?
[01:58]Welcome to K-Rob.
[01:59]K-R-O-B.
[02:00]K-Rob's going psychedelic today.
[02:02]The boys are in person.
[02:03]Not really live, but they're seeing each other and they're in Vegas.
[02:07]Really hope that will be done soon.
[02:13]Right.
[02:14]Now, there's so many things to do in Las Vegas.
[02:16]They could be at the tables gambling.
[02:17]They could go to a show.
[02:19]They could go to the dance club.
[02:20]But instead, they are crammed in a hotel room talking to each other.
[02:23]Talking about Pink Floyd.
[02:26]Oh, yeah.
[02:27]Why did we think that this would be so much fun?
[02:31]Can't wait till we are done.
[02:45]Not true.
[02:46]No way.
[02:47]I'm savoring every moment.
[02:48]We could be betting on roulette.
[02:53]Hell, roulette?
[02:55]I would double down on calling her name.
[02:57]No.
[02:57]No.
[02:57]No.
[02:57]No.
[02:57]The Veda double down, though, too.
[03:02]I got to learn that one.
[03:04]Long song.
[03:06]We're making big gold, black jackpots.
[03:10]That's where we should be going.
[03:12]Right now, it's blackjack for sure.
[03:13]This is where it's at.
[03:18]I don't know.
[03:21]Joe in the back, I think, would rather be playing blackjack.
[03:23]It's good.
[03:24]We are time recording an episode.
[03:26]I'm sick, Joe.
[03:28]You are the four of us.
[03:39]Totally broke.
[03:41]Yeah.
[03:41]We lost it all.
[03:44]Put the rest on this podcast.
[03:46]This is it.
[03:47]Please buy our ads.
[03:49]For the jerk-off creamer ring.
[03:51]For the sponsorship that we have.
[03:54]Yeah.
[03:54]I made some money the other day.
[03:56]Giving out cards outside the casinos.
[03:58]I don't know if he doesn't know this.
[03:59]Beck did it.
[04:03]You had a very tight snap.
[04:04]You're ripping those off.
[04:07]Welcome, everybody, to Beck Did It Better.
[04:08]I've got four guys sitting here by the pool
[04:11]with the Pink Floyd albums painted on their back,
[04:12]just like the poster Aaron had in his room.
[04:14]We are doing The Wall by Pink Floyd.
[04:17]I've got Matt in Las Vegas.
[04:19]Matt, how are you doing?
[04:19]Hello?
[04:21]Is there anybody listening out there?
[04:24]No.
[04:26]Just call the Beck line if you can hear me.
[04:28]Is anybody home?
[04:29]I've got Russ in Las Vegas.
[04:33]Russ, how are you doing?
[04:33]Rob, is it true that if I don't eat my meat,
[04:36]I can't have any pudding?
[04:37]How can you?
[04:41]How can you?
[04:42]How can you have any pudding?
[04:43]I'm just going to...
[04:44]Both those things remind me of what just happened to me in the bathroom.
[04:47]I've got Aaron in Las Vegas.
[04:51]Now, Aaron, is it true...
[04:52]I heard the other day that you just caught a disgusting pervert
[04:55]on the bus.
[04:56]Yeah, he was watching porn over your shoulder.
[04:58]I think I'm comfortably numb.
[05:04]Let's talk about it.
[05:05]It's like The Wall.
[05:06]And I've got Rob also in Las Vegas.
[05:08]We are together.
[05:09]We sound like garbage.
[05:10]In one room at one table.
[05:11]I know.
[05:12]It's not that exciting.
[05:12]It turns out...
[05:13]It's like The Last Supper.
[05:14]Which one of us is Jesus?
[05:16]Probably Rob.
[05:20]My cock's only crowed once since I've been here.
[05:23]It's not quite Rob.
[05:26]Let's get into our voicemail.
[05:28]Rob is sharing a room with your wife
[05:32]where you've got to make sure the kids are in bed
[05:33]before you do anything like that or not.
[05:36]Turn the sound machine up.
[05:38]The Miami sound machine.
[05:40]Why does the sound machine sound like my slime?
[05:43]I can only do it to the Miami sound machine.
[05:44]Hey, dudes.
[05:47]It's Aaron from Minneapolis.
[05:49]Thanks for being nice to me last time I called in.
[05:52]I have a question.
[05:53]All right, let's keep it up.
[05:54]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:55]What is the most important thing in life?
[05:56]embarrassing concert you've ever been to you talk a lot about good concerts you've been to but i want
[06:02]to know an embarrassing concert and not one that you were like dragged to or just happened to be
[06:09]there but that you were excited about going i have two i saw nickelback yes in probably 2001
[06:21]and around that same time i saw limp biscuit twice and that's okay the twice part the twice
[06:29]part is embarrassing only once did she go for the hot dog flavored water
[06:35]but it makes sense for two times i don't know so yeah i'm looking forward to hearing your answers
[06:42]bye listen i thought we decided that was corn now first of all i'd like to thank that caller
[06:50]for calling in on a second
[06:51]i went to one that was pretty embarrassing it actually wasn't a concert per se it was more of
[06:57]an opera and one of my friends was in an opera so i went to the opera for the first time i don't
[07:02]know if you guys know this guy but it was aaron oh my god was one of the i don't know if he was
[07:06]the lead role i think there was one of the lead role semi mains i would i would be generous i'd
[07:12]probably say like six man of the year type of role right extra generous coming off the bench
[07:16]but right we actually i don't know i've mattered rob you went to this but we actually organized
[07:21]i had a crew to go see aaron at the opera perform at the opera that's true it was near seven corners
[07:25]but i think we got a group of about 20 people college friends to go we all uh met up at the
[07:32]old igloo where when uh the pleasure principal still lived with me there and we went we went
[07:38]so aaron then we went out to uh what's what's the bar where you have the i'll drink out of the same
[07:43]punch bowl oh on in seven corners uh the fish bowls what the hell was the name of it wasn't
[07:48]brothers jesus christ this is more boring oh
[07:51]it is kind of weird watching matt text while we're on this no but i props to russell because
[07:57]he always he always brought a crowd any anytime i did anything performing wise he always brought
[08:03]people well you know i was it was never like major great stuff but he but i do but i aaron
[08:08]to be clear i regret going i'm embarrassed i did i wanted to go to the opera i really did
[08:13]my parents wouldn't let me go you know why they heard it was aria rated wait no wait rewind at a
[08:21]they heard it was rated aria
[08:22]that's an opera joke for all you opera heads out there i don't yeah my i think i feel like my run
[08:28]of concerts is pretty unassailable well russell and i it's it's hard because maybe one we could
[08:34]like maybe russell we could say like russell and i did see kid rock in person together that was
[08:39]awesome but it was awesome is that with metallica yeah he's opening he was opening to metallica that
[08:43]was good and right and then my other only like marginally embarrassing one is that i saw huba
[08:48]stank and i was like oh my god i'm so embarrassed i'm so embarrassed i'm so embarrassed i'm so embarrassed
[08:51]they were terrible predictably but they were opening for vulva revolver with slash so like i
[08:55]don't think huba stank is actually that embarrassing but they were clearly embarrassed like when huba
[08:59]stank got up there to play the reason they were like all right we know you guys don't you know
[09:04]the lead singer of yeah at the at the excel it was pretty fun yeah yeah it was fun uh you know i i did
[09:12]go see dmx and it was only embarrassing because it was in a uh holiday inn basement in for a while
[09:18]and it was also embarrassing because i was the only person who was in the basement and i was the only
[09:21]person there who didn't know every word to every dmx song but i'll tell you what you how can you
[09:25]ever replace that memory i get to tell people i saw dmx like that's the thing like i think of
[09:30]i went and saw snow patrol by myself at first half yeah some people matt from woodbury you know they
[09:37]would make fun of you for going but i love snow by yourself yeah but i also love you know but i
[09:42]found that my thing is going to big bands like that i mean like they've a very successful band
[09:48]right but at smaller venues when you
[09:51]see them up close is awesome so like semi-sonics playing at ice house in a couple weeks no it's
[09:57]this week i think i wonder what song they're going to play last yeah do you think they've
[10:02]ever played a show without closing with that one they have we've seen them before right we saw them
[10:06]at st. olaf college when they were the kings that's my other that was actually leading into
[10:10]my other embarrassing moment is i we're going to get like guys i think we're within eight to ten
[10:15]albums of maggot brain right now and i've been listen i've been i've been slacking on my other
[10:19]listening because i've been maggot braining
[10:21]we're not doing that episode you know we're gonna he's gonna skip that on you
[10:24]so we're getting close we're getting close to maggot brain but guys i we saw george clinton
[10:30]at st. olaf and i did not i did not appreciate it for what it was like i didn't i went they had i
[10:36]mean they had 16 people they had the full band and everything yep and i i went because it was
[10:40]like this is a show happening at st. olaf but like i didn't understand like i've been within
[10:45]10 feet of him and he was like holding up his mic stand and like pretending like it was a jack
[10:48]amazing
[10:51]i could still picture him moving around the stage yes and i know so much more about him now and i
[10:55]i really i so that's embarrassing to me that like i saw george clinton and i didn't i just think you
[11:00]should not be embarrassed by any concert you know to rob's point like should he be embarrassed by
[11:05]they might be giants probably but you know why what does he care what the rest of us think about
[11:10]his concert if you left the house to support some artists good for you right everybody likes
[11:15]your thing listen we're four white guys in the eight and in our 40s we don't make any mistakes
[11:21]we have no right nothing to be embarrassed about ever nothing there's there's nothing at all let's
[11:25]get into rolling going it's it's it's it's time to see what everybody's up to it's time for this
[11:36]is so bad man is watching a movie over my shoulder well to be fair it's the part in old school where
[11:42]blue died and you remember how he died yeah yeah i noticed we are definitely watching the comedy
[11:49]central version and not the original
[11:51]i was waiting for it i was waiting for it all right because there's no boobs
[11:56]aaron this is a special you know what actually this is a special uh edition of rolling going
[12:02]oh it's going great it's hard like usually when we've done a rolling going it's been at least a
[12:12]couple of days since i've seen you guys but you guys have been we know what's going on with you
[12:16]fully immersed in my life since 2 p.m yesterday but i got a couple things i've been thinking about
[12:21]um corduroys do you guys wear corduroys used to used to used to went to catholic school
[12:27]i used to go one problem with corduroys is if you're a really fat guy
[12:30]sometimes the crotch will rub together then that's the only part that's smooth oh
[12:35]okay all right again i get it that's a real bummer but i've got some corduroys now but
[12:40]they're so big and heavy i don't know i just that's my i mean because i like i'm out on
[12:45]blue jeans i think let's see that's my jeans now you guys are all wearing jeans i jeans just are
[12:50]not working for me anymore and i was running out of pants to wear that i like all of a sudden the
[12:55]rain came back it got cold in california i was like oh fuck i don't like your jeans out in the
[12:59]rain right and then they start fitting you up what do you mean by jeans aren't working for you
[13:05]i just they're not comfortable they fall down in the back like my butt crack is always showing in
[13:10]jeans right like that well that's okay but do you have a belt yes i guess i could try that also
[13:16]yeah it's so weird when i came in aaron's hotel room the other day i was wrapped around the door
[13:20]that was a sign for you not to come into my hotel room for a guy who doesn't wear belts he sure
[13:25]brings a lot of them on trips so that's my thing so he's a belt on his door handle that means he's
[13:31]auto erotic he fixated himself in his room here's the thing about corduroys guys so i i discovered
[13:36]some in my closet the other day when i was like upset because i couldn't wear my jeans anymore
[13:40]and i put my corduroys on i was like these are actually pretty comfy like they stretch a little
[13:44]more than jeans like i really can what's funny he's just like
[13:50]can't wear jeans anymore
[13:51]and they felt great and then the thing is i got a black pair and a sort of like olive green pair
[14:05]i wore them out hiking the other day and then i wore the black pair for a date night you could
[14:11]like guys these things you can corduroys you can do anything with them so i'm excited about
[14:16]your pants aaron you can do everything with your pants what are you talking about i'm just
[14:20]excited about my corduroys but i do have one i don't know oh real back up real quick so you just
[14:25]had like these two pairs of pants that somehow you got them when did you were they like 10 years old
[14:30]and they've been sitting at the bottom of your drawer and you're like yeah i'll try these out
[14:34]yeah i was like a man i'm so sick of these jeans they're not comfy but it's not warm outside what
[14:39]am i gonna wear oh maybe i'll try these corduroys i mean there's so many jeans out there now and
[14:44]they make them like essentially like sweatpants can't you just find a good pair that's a lot of
[14:48]work to find but the finding the work is in the finding right you know i found these corduroys
[14:52]embarrassing thing about jeans are always sitting on my bottom i i am now i will only buy jeans that
[14:58]have some sort of stretch aspect to them like the idea of like squatting down and having a pants
[15:04]tear or something like that that will never happen with the stretch you guys are not true fat guys
[15:09]because i can tell you having pants ripped it's just another day it's not a big deal i write a
[15:14]bike to work every day think about how i feel i'm wearing these tight ass pants well you might need
[15:18]to get some corduroys but i can tell you when corduroys rip they blow out oh yeah they're gone
[15:22]the whole thing yeah the whole thing goes because it's i mean it's perforated already yeah just go
[15:27]all the way down it's perforated yeah it's the whole cross just gone but one thing i like about
[15:30]las vegas the number one thing i like about las vegas is being here with you guys like what a
[15:36]blessing that's the number one thing you like number one thing i would rather come by myself
[15:39]and play blackjack with you guys but i enjoy that there's music everywhere in las vegas
[15:45]there's music being pumped in so elevators yeah everything i
[15:48]heard a song today that i know was my favorite song i've heard i heard this yesterday too but i
[15:53]heard today i was walking over to aria to find a mezcal and i heard you guys know amy winehouse
[15:59]covered cupid the same the same coke song she covered i've never heard this before so i heard
[16:03]this great amy winehouse cover of cupid and i want to know what what's the best song you guys
[16:10]have heard in las vegas this weekend i need flow rider there's a flow rider song that uh
[16:15]i call him flow rider but matt and i went to play blackjack and i heard this song and i heard this
[16:18]i believe it was at planet hollywood and we were playing double deck one night we played forever
[16:22]and we were just killing it and they just kept playing that one song by flow ride i don't know
[16:26]the same song we heard it 30 times in one night it was fantastic and we won i i don't know if i've
[16:32]got a a song that i've heard but you know i don't have enough house music in my life yes you know
[16:38]and like the the dj remixes at the pleasure pit is that what it's called the pleasure pleasure pit
[16:43]yeah i mean where you play blackjack where the women are respectfully dancing on the tables yes
[16:48]and uh and your buddy alden you know who wanted to have a squat contest with you but
[16:54]matt remember you know normally everything stays in vegas it happens in vegas so this is so don't
[16:59]tell the stories about the pleasure the pleasure pit the pleasure pit i say but you know but they've
[17:03]got the remixes of essentially like 80s rock 70s rock but it's more much more of a house you know
[17:09]uh vibe to it yeah whoever's doing it i don't know if it's just pre-programmed or what it is but
[17:13]that is what i've been yeah enjoying on our trip so far
[17:18]we didn't call it a pleasure pit we called it the bagpipes when you put your dick into somebody's
[17:21]armpit and they go like yes i think it was a week ago the best rock house remix i heard matt was uh
[17:29]ccr i want to know if you've ever seen i heard that yes i heard ccr with the four on the floor
[17:35]beat underneath i'm telling you anytime i hear it pitbull it's a bop i know i'm i know i'm in
[17:39]party town when it's time to hear party town for sure you heard pitbull and you instantly went
[17:43]bought everybody shots of fireball didn't you yeah oh that worked out great i and and somebody
[17:48]named dave didn't drink his dave at the dance club uh and i think this really helped my condition
[17:54]last night when they did play fireball i opened a small bottle of fireball and drank it oh yes
[17:59]the no hand the no hand no hand it was a strong what if that's as good as good as it gets you're
[18:05]at the king's corner listening to a cover band playing pitbull and drinking matt you're right
[18:12]i'm gonna get a divorce yeah las vegas i don't think dave just gave away that fireball drink
[18:18]although i think he lent it to jeb isn't that right you shouldn't learn by now so that's it
[18:24]that's it for me so how's it rolling going with russell these are going well i love vegas as you
[18:28]guys know i love playing blackjack with you guys it's one of my favorite things to do you guys are
[18:32]all super fun to play with you always have a great attitude but i've realized i am a very
[18:37]mentally weak person because if i sit if i sit down and there's a dealer that has any sort of
[18:44]thing that's off about them if they deal too fast if they don't laugh at our
[18:48]jokes it like completely changes my experience in blackjack i can't just power through if i
[18:54]find the dealer annoying i just it gets in my head like you wouldn't believe i can't stand it
[18:59]i but but russell what you what the crowd doesn't understand about you playing blackjack as well is
[19:04]that you are also antagonistic to the dealers i can't be people often force them to make eye
[19:08]contact with them he'll often give them the give them the double point playing blackjack with
[19:14]russell is a treat that everyone should experience what did russell say yesterday he goes how would
[19:18]you like if i called my uncle mr gaming commission james gaming commission jimmy boy yeah go a little
[19:26]jimbo yeah but and then russell was like hey this dealer looked at me funny it's time to double my
[19:32]back it's true and we always have i did i walked away from the table last night while you guys
[19:36]were playing i could still hear you all the way in the bathroom i could hear your table
[19:39]cheering and then like we always end up with some person who ends up at the table with us
[19:44]and they look at us sideways like is this gonna go bad yeah yeah we had one teammate yesterday
[19:49]that that dude was good in first base yeah he was good he got it he was great he made the right
[19:53]place the worst part about playing if we don't have enough people is you get the guy who like
[19:59]we had yesterday sat down it was just a complete asshole yes just a complete asshole and you
[20:04]wonder and so then you wonder why the dealers are just mad and like oh god you know like a bunch of
[20:09]42 year old guys from minnesota who were flying you know kind of a thing until they loosen up
[20:14]until we get russell on him right russell loosens up he always breaks down the barriers yeah but
[20:17]like there are so many like just angry asshole people that it does ruin it that that's what
[20:22]ruins it to me more than the well they'll sit down and you're like having a nice time and they're like
[20:27]these democrats on you're like i just asked the dealer if i should split threes
[20:32]well the guy the guy sat down he must have been i mean again stereotyping something from
[20:40]tennessee kentucky virginia something like that it's a black
[20:44]jack table it's the table minimum 25 bucks a hand it's it's as low as you can play and he says well
[20:49]is this just like the other black jack and the dealer's like what do you what she couldn't
[20:52]understand it was like this is just this is basically blackjack and she goes yeah and then
[20:57]he got pissed at her because she said yeah it's blackjack and it's like what the fuck you know so
[21:02]it's like yeah you're also a fucking moron yeah and the smart thing to do at those points always
[21:08]would be just to stand up and go to another table yeah everybody would understand the dealer would
[21:11]understand but you just can't do it
[21:14]because you're like what if what if this is where we get to run just about to roll right what if
[21:18]this is as good as you don't want to roll with that guy oh you want to actively lose because
[21:23]you want to watch that person lose money and hope they leave i just start betting let's all touch
[21:28]our fingertips in the middle and make a promise okay but lightly touch our fingertips once again
[21:32]we are in the same day oh wow you're that so here we're tight lightly touching
[21:36]i'm not touching russell's fingertips we gotta get just the tips just the tips
[21:44]i'm only touching now let's all touch now let's touch a toe on the table so i have not taken my
[21:50]pants off that's not my toe oh that was a pinky toe here's the deal we're gonna promise that if
[21:59]somebody sucks wrong that we don't like we're just gonna stand up and that's it and we're gonna be
[22:03]strong that's it we did all this for that no oh we know we gotta help the dealer out we gotta drive
[22:08]that person if we record for two more hours we're not gonna be back down there anyway right you're
[22:12]gonna be insulted if that person's you and we leave
[22:14]and the best part i think the best part about this trip too has been that people have shown
[22:25]up at different times so i could just use the same jokes over and over they're good well hey
[22:29]just so we because we're not gonna remember this in like 10 years okay well we will after robber
[22:36]what's the joke of the you know what's the joke of the trip so far a push in this economy that's a
[22:42]have you seen the price of eggs
[22:43]and everybody gets everybody's like man this economy where's this going are we going right
[22:49]wing on this and then you say oh have you seen the price of eggs and then that gets them last
[22:53]he's right you're expensive right don't ask me how much i pay for eggs
[22:57]aaron how much do you pay for eggs minneapolis is five bucks
[23:02]i think i paid 11.79 for 18 eggs like pretty pretty decent deal where jenny shops in new
[23:10]york at the organic store oh yeah i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know
[23:12]jesus christ
[23:12]eat your own chicken before this all went down it was like 13 i've paid i've paid 13 for a dozen
[23:18]without noticing and then i can't do that they're just they're just eggs okay i mean what a yolk
[23:23]they're so gross keep going the other thing i was gonna say today my biggest bummer with blackjack
[23:28]last night is as you guys know we have a strategy that has been put in place by members of our good
[23:34]friend group where if you have a 12 against a six come on now yep hard 12 no hard 12 against a six
[23:42]listeners you double it i beg you to google this and some people claim this is called doubling a
[23:48]hard 12 some people are trying to put it on wikipedia and it got denied listen i'm not
[23:51]gonna disrespect people who somebody can be here today because email uh now
[23:57]watch what you say here yeah i was i was trying to think of the best way to do that
[24:04]in an honorable way i mean yeah right but what do you go for say something bad about our dead
[24:08]friend i'm saying i'm saying i'm saying what i'm saying is i know
[24:12]what i'm saying is i know he's here watching us he's here with us this weekend i'm not gonna
[24:21]disrespect him when i know he's here did he when he did that first one he'd be hanging out in the
[24:26]female bathroom and he's like floating around the female bathroom but the first time that jake did
[24:36]that though did he win and then that's why we're like a few of us would have a strategy where you
[24:42]not a good move but you kind of you get more money out there and you just hope for a little card it's a
[24:46]it's a terrible move it's in fact so terrible that the dealer needs to turn around and alert
[24:53]somebody is on purpose making such a terrible
[24:56]and so they're on purpose doing this so they need to say listen this person is dumb enough to do
[25:02]this this is i did not make a mistake and so our friend who aaron was making fun of even though he
[25:07]is passed to the other side i don't think i was doing it but
[25:12]so our friend said i've heard about this move we call it an iowa double down because only people
[25:17]that are from iowa are dumb enough to do this move and so aaron has been insulted by this and
[25:23]for years now and claims that it's not a real thing it is because we do it every year
[25:29]well we're all for five so far we're all for five on iowa double downs but more importantly
[25:35]we're all for five on them not announcing that we're doing that and that's that's the fun is
[25:40]them announcing doubling a hard 12 because people look at you and you're like who the
[25:46]fuck is this guy who's doubling the hard 12 but when you win it's the best you say i'm from iowa
[25:50]and they go oh okay i got it yeah but so anyways matt rolling so we're all for five on that what
[25:57]what are we what are we what have we done three times though russell jacked off in our room
[26:02]yeah i always kind of wonder we've been watching football they had people disappear for an
[26:09]extended period
[26:10]yeah i'm like god i need one of those massage girls no just the right shoulder if you could
[26:16]it's always awkward when we come back from being gone for a while then have to look each other in
[26:20]the eye at the same table like just over zoom you don't even think about that stuff yeah i mean i'm
[26:25]wearing you want to talk about aaron's pant pants randy did the other day i'm wearing pants right
[26:28]now it's bugging the hell out of me also i have to tell everybody everyone else at this recording
[26:33]we're sitting around a table everyone else got chairs i bought all the stuff bought it
[26:40]set it up figured it out i came here a half hour late we're supposed to be playing blackjack right
[26:46]now i got fucking lost and you know you're lost when you're wheeling a suitcase through the casino
[26:50]floor there is nobody and you're just looking around like there's no reason to be wheeling a
[26:56]suitcase to the casino floor they make it really easy for you to get from your room to out but i'm
[26:59]walking around and if somebody's like sir you need to stop open that bag i would have just run and
[27:05]jumped off the highest building they could instead of showing them i'm having opening up a podcast
[27:08]setup
[27:10]the worst yeah no and so i am sitting they would have asked you to leave oh yeah oh god yeah but
[27:16]i i would i am sitting right now about 12 inches shorter than everyone else
[27:20]but we have we had another tradition are we doubling the against the 15 no no when we win
[27:30]table winners oh so the other thing that we do is we've started this tradition probably
[27:35]six seven years ago where if the whole table wins three hands in a row the dealer busts
[27:40]dealer breaks or how everyone at the table wins money on every hand for three hands we sing our
[27:45]fight song and i believe we've got to do this a few times haven't we three times i've counted
[27:50]three times i'll tell you our fight song is a waltz it is slow you're hearing in the background
[27:54]right now why wouldn't we just sing it right now because we're gonna kick the other time
[27:58]but yeah check the levels don't the dealers don't like you to do it but they love it because all
[28:05]of a sudden you have a table who's singing and cheering and they love it and it's like it brings
[28:10]people in
[28:10]and it rocks and plus we just won three in a row so you know we're getting that money and i tried
[28:16]to think of another word for money i couldn't do it so that's my bad that bread that bread
[28:21]literally a quiche you guys want a free drink no i'll have fun matt help us what what do you got
[28:27]rolling going uh nothing you know we're kind of keeping this to las vegas so i have i have figured
[28:32]out that i cannot be with a group of people for more than like i like where this is going
[28:40]up 28 hours without taking like a mental break and i don't think it's a bad thing but like i took
[28:45]i took half off you guys were still down i took a mental break from about midnight to 4 00 a.m
[28:50]because i don't remember a damn bit of it it was good but i think talking about these guys we were
[28:57]dancing with at the outdoor bar i have no clue we'll talk about the guys in my role
[29:01]so i think it's great to get out here right i mean it's great to get out here it's great to
[29:07]hang out with you but the best thing about hanging out with this group is it doesn't
[29:10]matter what everybody else wants to do you want to go take a nap go take a nap you want to play
[29:14]poker until i don't know what time is dave getting 10 this morning you know you go play that you want
[29:20]to go to all you can eat buffet that's great so that's that's what i tell everybody is so much
[29:24]fun is that we do that and then we don't go to goddamn strip clubs because there's nothing worse
[29:28]than going to a strip club but there's nothing better than the guys advertising the strip club
[29:32]we walked out a door i mean it's just so rare there's not that many places in the u.s i can
[29:37]only think about three or four where you would walk out a door and somebody would
[29:40]turn to you and go hey do you want to come be the mayor of titty city at a strip club
[29:44]and you thought about it like i think he's like well i don't know this seems like a nice title
[29:50]but do is there an election yeah they're elected position yeah do i have to do i have to get a
[29:54]certain number of signatures to get on the ballot yeah okay electoral commission but they're just
[29:59]they're like yeah you could be pounding single moms and i was like well that he's
[30:02]that's what he said
[30:05]it was simply a single mom i was like well that's just sad
[30:10]they're stripping to pay for their kids stuff like might have been like dropping the bomb and
[30:15]single moms or something it was something pretty i'm with matt i i took i took plenty of mental
[30:19]breaks too i took a lot of walks i went out for a drink by myself i'd like i like to do a little
[30:24]solo getaway too i'm with you matt if we're if we're not going to the strip clubs why is joe
[30:28]from woodbury got all these tickets for darcy holly and daisy yeah and where is he at right
[30:33]now while we're recording why does his room smell like mulch fifty dollars what are you getting out
[30:40]if you pay the 50 bucks what's the what's the entertainment what do you mean for what if i if
[30:45]aaron were to call daisy with this ticket oh you're looking at the escort cards yes well he
[30:50]would get to fucking suck yeah what does he get out of it what do you mean one of the hottest loads
[30:57]with a new person that's what you get out oh no you get out that nut good thing you stayed an
[31:05]extra night this year i'm so glad i'm here for this oh my god russ is like excuse me can you
[31:10]guys just tell me what do you do
[31:12]oh no nothing back to the belt i couldn't tell just by a price and a naked woman
[31:22]so i'm happy to be here i like the mental breaks it's great to get out here you know it's very
[31:32]important for you know everybody moms dads to get away from their families every once in a while
[31:38]because we're all going to go back a little bit
[31:40]relaxed i don't know if we're going to be completely rested but we're all going to be
[31:43]better husbands and fathers and partners and workers and all that stuff for having been out
[31:49]here so i appreciate it so rob that's my rolling rolling and you know i i think it's important that
[31:55]especially when you know you want to bring a gift home right and i think hepatitis c counts
[32:00]so i'm not worried there's only 65 bucks is that a big deal it's the gift that keeps on giving
[32:06]finally i'm like tommy and pamela all right
[32:10]seriously you did it i rob i actually i picked it up from the seat at the gym of the
[32:16]peloton in vegas right from the peloton i mean who knows who's using those pelotons down there
[32:22]that's what i told my wife i really had a birthday party this is in one of his autobiographies i keep
[32:27]meaning to bring this up to you rob because i know that your ear is always in the ground well
[32:30]it's actually my rolling going so i feel like you're kind of stepping on it but okay birthday
[32:33]party and i i this was a thread on twitter i don't know if it's real or not the soundtrack for his
[32:40]birthday party was radiohead
[32:42]anyway i didn't mean to interrupt you're like tommy lee i mean it's gonna rock right now i'm
[32:53]just gonna tell you right now in the background you're hearing the opening part to kickstart my
[32:56]heart yes and you're like this is what we're gonna be partying we're gonna be partying he's
[33:00]gonna be honking that boat horn with his huge pack this is gonna be awesome and you get there
[33:04]and it's fucking radio and now i need some radio discotheque
[33:10]uh so listen rolling going with me do i have a face that makes fucking morons want to come up
[33:15]that's probably the mustache
[33:19]according to the guy so i am i was out wearing of course the saturday night special as we call it
[33:25]oh i didn't change my shirt oh you did i've got the i make the thx noise when i come
[33:30]wait a minute you're not gonna find your way to your room it's not in my bag i took it on my
[33:36]shit it's in my room dave better not put it on
[33:38]i'm gonna wear it though for gambling tonight get ready so here's the deal what if you go back and
[33:44]it's kind of sweaty and it smells like cigarette smoke yeah and the noises the neighbors are like
[33:49]there's so many weird noises coming up
[33:50]i'm gonna edit this out but i did go back and there was a crumpled up kleenex on my bed
[33:58]in the bed next to me and there's a crumpled up kleenex on my bed and i
[34:03]come on now oh come on
[34:05]are you coming into a kleenex and i'm throwing the kleenex on my bed i'm throwing the kleenex on my bed
[34:08]i mean what is going on give me a fucking break i was like you know i think wait wait this is not
[34:22]acceptable behavior it's hard make an apology back to a better apology
[34:29]better apology okay this is a message to rob when you're editing it you really gotta think
[34:35]is dave is dave gonna hear this there's no chance right so it's a lot of people that know dave
[34:40]so here is the thing apology accepted russell is what is it with people wanting to come up to me
[34:49]and just talk to me like i fucking want to talk to him at all i so last night we're at the dance
[34:54]club right i'm at the dance club all of a sudden i i'm at the bar i'm wearing my hard daddy shirt
[35:00]which everybody knows is a fun shirt it's very cool very fun and all of a sudden a guy comes
[35:05]up and goes hey nice shirt that's that's that's a great fat guy shirt it's i got so many problems
[35:12]with this guy let me know when it's my turn we're gonna call this guy gene from jersey so we're i'm
[35:17]just gonna go through very quickly it's taking me five words for me to already hate this guy i
[35:21]cannot stand him and of course that means that he's instantly going to come talk to me for a lot
[35:25]of the night to the point where he comes over he goes oh something something he goes i'm a vikings
[35:29]fan too he's wearing a giant shirt so i call him out on that he then tells me that oh yeah
[35:35]i've been kicked out of here a number of times i was like wait a number of times he's like oh yeah
[35:40]one time i got kicked because here's the problem i want to just ditch him and tell him to fuck off
[35:44]right but then he would say something it would tickle a part of my brain where i was like particular
[35:47]he's like well yeah he's like i got kicked out of the piano bar and i was like wait a minute wait a
[35:51]minute wait a minute why did you get kicked out he's like i don't know i was sitting there and
[35:55]all of a sudden i saw those two security guys show up and i was like who are they here for
[35:58]turns out they were there for me he then turned and tried to grab my crotch when he i could tell
[36:03]what oh yeah
[36:05]he he he slapped joe in the back of the head oh he touched me on the face i don't know why
[36:10]he was trying to talk to me i was trying to look away he touched my face who knows where those
[36:13]fingers face right over your over your mask though right yeah over my mask yeah no we were no no we
[36:19]were outside that time we were outdoors it was okay and then he also he then proceeded to talk
[36:25]to us one-on-one individually well i would go around to everyone else and say listen my bad
[36:28]this guy followed you were apologizing it was very bad so at some point who was it was a umat that
[36:33]had the brilliant idea where you said hey
[36:35]you like the vikings that guy over there is a real joe yeah because that guy over there is a real
[36:39]viking we look and sure enough here's this guy six foot four long blonde hair he looked exactly
[36:45]like dauber he did he did and this guy goes over and immediately does what i think any normal
[36:52]person would do smack this guy in the back of his head as hard as he can and the guy goes what was
[36:56]that for and they just start talking and i was like this guy is so bizarre he's not been 86 for
[37:01]life from that place you can't get kicked out more than once and still get to go back
[37:05]that's what you're concerned about the policy at this outdoor dance club yes what the fuck why
[37:09]did they keep letting him in what about the fact that rob was sexually assaulted by this man in
[37:13]on the dance floor i am concerned for you rob how are you feeling boy he didn't get close to me i
[37:17]used my deflection technique of turning around of sending him to your buddies hey look at that guy
[37:24]over there i wish people would just stop coming up to me in las vegas and talking to me because
[37:28]it's always a disaster nobody ever comes up and is like hey do you want to talk about powerlifting
[37:32]it's like no hey what's the name of your podcast let's talk about it these there's just so many
[37:37]fucking weirdos here i don't get it but you have to take some there has to be some measure of
[37:42]acknowledgement that you probably engage with them more than like i would not engage with them i would
[37:47]just be like fuck off i said thank you and then he just was like talk and i was like but after
[37:52]the second comment you can be a dick and i don't think there's anything wrong guys i want to make
[37:57]a promise right now so let's put all our fingers in the middle okay once again we are live in person
[38:02]anymore there it is that's but like at the blackjack table you're a funny guy and you have
[38:08]fun at the blackjack table people uh you know yeah people mag you know gravitate towards our table
[38:14]because usually russell's kicking ass taking names so they just want to see the show how does this guy
[38:19]do it over here yeah really you know but we do we i mean how many random people came up and talked
[38:25]to us yesterday some jackasses rob was wearing his fat guy shirt the shirt right the fat guy shirt
[38:31]isn't that what we called it though
[38:32]i don't know is that the hard daddy shirt hard daddy shirt no it's still the hard day
[38:35]it's not the perfect fat guy shirt yeah i still i also am i'm still a little bit upset and i said
[38:41]this to you rob last night that this guy thinks you and he are the same and you're not the same
[38:45]you're a national champion he's not a national champion it's true i could have piled drive that
[38:49]guy into dust yeah which is what i should have done maybe if he was wearing a gi though he
[38:53]could be a blue belt he might have choked you out with your own gi yeah well that's exactly what
[38:57]happened to be like hey i've taken three classes you just do time to get to a fight
[39:01]this guy
[39:02]he would probably like also like do something serious like rip my ear off and everybody's
[39:06]like how'd you lose your ear it'd be like well i was talking to this what happens in vegas
[39:09]i was wearing a great fat guy shirt and i lost my mind because it happened the night before and i
[39:14]was bugged by it oh just for the record i do not recall talking to this person or seeing this
[39:19]person at all you're so fucking you're so fucking fortunate you were lucky and russ was my
[39:25]chaperone home joe joe's over in the back there how was i the chaperone i don't know anyone last
[39:32]because we were trying to get swarmer ordered and you two you two didn't want to yeah you didn't
[39:35]want to form us so that meant you were on your own to get it's it's so wild to me what you guys
[39:40]were up to give me you left us alone last night you well rob took off you went chasing after
[39:45]yeah a hundred percent yeah well but then at some point you stopped to play blackjack
[39:51]and i came back and all i remember saying is i don't think this is a good idea
[39:55]i texted everybody i go guys i couldn't save rice i have to go to bed and joe was ready joe
[40:04]texted and it was like does he need a wingman and then what russell walked in my door and i'm like
[40:08]no he's here it's all good i think i probably lost all my money in about 12 minutes well that
[40:13]certainly doesn't sound like us that does not sound like i'm not sure at all okay i got it
[40:18]back i figured it out i mean but you can get that eight grand back pretty pretty easily
[40:22]now remember what he's gonna do he's gonna you know gambling you know gambling losses are right
[40:27]yeah oh you get up to 10 yeah so you're like nine right because it's like anything over 10
[40:32]you got to report yeah that's yeah so you can get that nine grand back you'll be all right it's it's
[40:36]a write-off just write it off it's not a big deal i've lost i've lost 10 grand a day every day we've
[40:40]been here according to uncle sam all right uh let's get into the album oh is this a music podcast
[40:47]oh wait new soundboard where's my album oh there it is
[40:52]it's time for nobody's favorite it's fun i got my old soundboard here so i got all these old
[40:55]sounds we haven't heard in a while yeah under episodes wait we've heard that one yeah no
[41:03]then we heard the other version oh yeah all right so we are talking about pink floyd the wall from
[41:10]1979 so here's the deal right uh this is the 11th album uh but they're on a run right now right they
[41:17]have the dark side of the moon wish you were here animals and then the wall
[41:22]and at this point you know they're real big animals i don't know that one i don't know but
[41:26]i'd have i'd i saw a woman with it painted on her back by the pool once i don't know
[41:30]rosie don't ask questions during my points okay please it makes it so hard to edit that out
[41:37]here's the thing so you know that they're getting to be a huge band because they're like
[41:41]you know what we should do you know what people would love a rock opera and it's like guess what
[41:46]nobody would like that nobody thinks that's a good idea it's it's one of these things where it's like
[41:50]there's some kick-ass songs on this album and the rock opera sucks it doesn't make and i to me i just
[41:57]doesn't make any sense i'm like skip skip skip oh here's a good one skip skip skip but these bands
[42:02]love to do it and like queen they wanted to do a rock opera they did fucking fun shit they didn't
[42:06]do a bunch of echoing voices that makes you think like oh about the blitzkrieg or whatever i really
[42:11]tried i went through a phase i think i did like my beatles phase and then tried the doors a bit
[42:20]on the subject of rock operas and it it's not it's it's it's tough because you just can't you
[42:25]can't have good songs tell a plot i don't think this isn't fun but here's the other thing is that
[42:30]i tried to look up the plot of this to tell you guys on wikipedia i didn't oh it's fucked it's
[42:36]long and it's fucked and i was like i'm not going so i am not going to be covering i was going to
[42:40]say i'm not covering any plot on this podcast am i wrong russell are you going to cover the platform
[42:43]yeah we gotta get some interesting we gotta get the dime tour quick just to set it up i've got no
[42:49]i've got no five to seven words on the plot for each song and also i don't have a lot like so many
[42:54]pink floyd albums the melody repeats at the end of the last song in the beginning of the first song
[42:58]so you can play it on the loop constantly constantly and the tour for this album was so
[43:02]big and crazy that every show cost the band like hundreds of thousands of dollars they lost tons
[43:07]of money on the tour it was just too big and they could not recoup but we've talked about this and i
[43:11]know we got to get into it but we've talked about this where it seems like these bands who are uber
[43:15]popular once they finally get up on that hill yeah they get bored and they're like oh my god
[43:19]they gotta try to find some new new reason to do something new and clearly clearly this is some
[43:25]sort of escape for them right like we're gonna try something new we're gonna do this animal had
[43:29]a bunch of like 17 minute songs on it so that was kind of their jam album now they're trying to go
[43:35]for some concept thing right i think i mean if you get rid of again it's kind of like all these
[43:40]things you get rid of this like oh this is lining up this movie and this song you know if you just
[43:44]listen to the album i think it's great but you kind of start putting all these little
[43:49]things around it and you're like all right well you know it was the album was called pretentious
[43:54]by a lot of uh it's it's it's very so it's funny because you listen to these songs like how can
[43:59]they call these great songs pretentious and then you get to the end of the album and you're listening
[44:03]to stuff like this and you're like oh i get why it's called pretentious like it's craziness uh
[44:15]so let's get into the first song on the album we've got
[44:19]in the flesh the flesh i think this one had another heart beating in the background it
[44:25]was their heart beating in the background and i feel like every floyd album i think
[44:29]every pink floyd song has heart wait i can hear it oh wait no that's the heart beating
[44:36]that joke should have got a bigger laugh you guys laughed a little we did our best i know
[44:44]but i need it guys yeah uh being in person we kind of feel like we have to laugh a little bit more
[44:49]you gotta bring the energy the whole album tells the story of pink a rock star and it starts with
[44:53]them at a rock wait a rock star named pink uh yes pull a single pink song rob right now for a pull
[45:01]um uh already in the usa yep that's just like a pill just like a pill did matt just give us
[45:09]miley cyrus bringing sexy back yep i like also not i like uh think of one oops i did it again
[45:19]this is just grinding people right now
[45:21]i'm telling you just like a pill is a great song just like a pill it's hard the song we have to
[45:28]talk like the album is hard to talk about song to song it's like you just have to listen to the
[45:33]whole thing everything kind of true it's a it's a college vibe album it is it's just that it's
[45:37]the wrong time they're gonna be like this guy's fucking weird yeah that's a college vibe album
[45:41]for the weirdo on your walking in a spider web this yeah
[45:45]the same guy who would play this
[45:49]for a party would also play like fear factor and turn out the lights and hold a knife
[45:53]with a neon light on to the room you've got i mean you've got a black light and you're
[45:57]smoking you know your brains out if you're listening yes yes no this is i don't know i
[46:02]don't think i ever listened to this one we all had a uh teammate and a friend and a room he passed
[46:09]away named chris you guys know chris and chris you guys leave that out my god why did you say it
[46:19]no matt didn't know no chris would always have weed and i was like oh that sounds fun to try
[46:25]and then he was the kind who'd be like oh cool we're gonna smoke and then he's gonna like close
[46:30]the door and lock it and like barricade you in the towel down yeah and then and then you're there
[46:37]you're in and like turn out the lights and give you some licked a nice tea and then he'd be like
[46:41]we're gonna listen to this album like this was definitely a chris special he's like hey i love
[46:45]your shirt it's a real good fat guy shirt yeah so then that put me off a weed for a long time i was
[46:49]smoking weed is like i'm not gonna i'm not into this the thin ice
[46:55]by the way this song starts with a baby crying baby if you put a baby crying in a song
[47:02]you should be arrested yes yes yes is this a ruby tuesday ripoff you hear this part they
[47:09]start it sounds like exactly right totally but not as good i mean imagine guys and this is kind
[47:16]of you know i have a story about this opera too imagine this opera and i'm like oh my god i'm
[47:19]like let's just say imagine you're flying on a plane right now and you're preparing for a podcast
[47:23]but you took an edible and you're listening to this on a podcast and there's like people
[47:28]talking and babies crying and hearts beating you're like i'm freaked out speaking of edibles
[47:33]can we talk about your edible handling protocols rob i'm not saying anyone has partaken but rob
[47:43]has definitely reached the point where edibles are not going in a ziploc bag a container or
[47:49]literally just sitting in the pant pocket of his jeans jeans and at times it might be the back
[47:55]pocket at times it's the front pack we're all having pants problems here so if anyone has
[48:03]consumed one of these over the last few days it has always had to start out with like a team
[48:07]cleaning of the edible pocket lint yeah and you're like wait is this supposed to be part of it and am
[48:13]i wiping it away or is this not part of it that would explain why when i walked by the room i
[48:18]heard some guys doing a podcast and they're like why is this supposed to be part of it and i'm
[48:19]like there are these fucking guys down there cleaning off a gummy
[48:21]you know that part of napoleon dynamite where they're like he's there in the he's trying to
[48:29]make money right so he's doing the chicken thing and they say okay time for lunch now right yeah
[48:33]and they all come up there and they're like what are they and all they're doing is putting eggs
[48:36]into a thing and he's turning with his hand they're all like okay that's kind of what it's
[48:41]like you're like well i guess i'll take this next up now this song if you haven't heard it in
[48:46]headphones you gotta listen to it in headphones all right
[48:49]is it coming through my headphones right now yeah it is of course this is a great headphone album
[48:53]there are times where the music just it slows down kind of like this and then it jumps out at you and
[48:59]it just grabs you it must listen to it but they weren't one of the real one by the way not the
[49:03]real freaking wall you think about it's just a little teaser for your tip put it in your tickler
[49:08]file this is for your pleasure pit this is right this is that period of time we've talked about it
[49:13]sort of the post-sergeant pepper world where the studio was itself an instrument right where
[49:18]they're making studio
[49:19]albums and and they're going in and doing stuff panning the sound all those other things
[49:23]it's not meant to be a single on the radio yeah you know it's meant to be an album a concept album
[49:28]right the happiest days according to waters the lyrics roger waters wrote most of this
[49:36]um ricky waters ricky running waters
[49:41]you said any waters i mean i'm trying to this part money walks where they filled in here i love it
[49:49]this is a reflection of his own negative image of school this album was incredibly anti-teacher
[49:54]i read it was they were tormented by tyrannical abusive teachers
[49:59]well you know what sometimes those teachers are pretty tired because they stayed up
[50:03]okay so fuck off i mean maybe they could have been a little more tired and had this set up
[50:11]for us by the time we got up here but i got lost i told you guys
[50:15]uh this is another brick of the wall
[50:19]part two okay another bricker in the waller
[50:22]another hand but this song is heavily influenced by disco which i never realized before until you
[50:31]listen to it oh you're right it's got the yeah kind of disco guitar which of course in what 79
[50:36]it was kind of probably a day but they're like you got to put some of this in it's funky and you
[50:40]don't think about wait this is 79 yeah so that's a wild thing to think about because next week we're
[50:45]gonna get into 1999 which is from 82 maybe this is 1999 what are we doing so many numbers here i'm
[50:51]just saying it's wild because that 1999 also has a lot of this kind of instance and you know what
[50:56]we're not going to be getting into in about eight weeks the funkadelic because we're gonna skip
[51:00]next up is a song that some people say we stopped though i had one interesting thing about that
[51:06]that song had a chorus of 23 kids and they were overdubbed 11 times to make it sound like they
[51:13]had more kids in the chorus
[51:15]so i thought that was interesting but also it was the same the the guy who directed this i think
[51:20]it's bob ezrin or someone like that he was into using these kids choruses he also used a kid's
[51:25]chorus in schools out by alice alice cooper did you know that man i did not know that no
[51:32]boy you know what you would have to be so creative to make the overdub so over and over to make a
[51:38]chorus
[51:39]i know this
[51:45]listeners at home if you think i didn't listen to all the parody songs i found on my old computer
[51:52]on the flight out like a crazy person you're wrong you don't know him very well uh some people say
[51:57]this song is way too slow to do a parody song too and i wish they would have gotten a hold of me
[52:01]earlier mother it was a little bit awkward in person when it was the little slower one wasn't it
[52:07]yeah oh yeah a thousand percent yeah yeah this is my favorite song on the album though i i like
[52:14]the stripped down it's very good eventually now at this point i was going to do a list of the best
[52:19]mom songs but i don't want to know i'm just going to tell you right now there's danzig i'm pretty
[52:23]sure aaron did that my brother did my brother did songs about moms thanks for showing up did
[52:29]it end with stacy's mom it did not no no stacy's mom no there's no stacy's mom there was no danzig
[52:34]on that one either so you i mean you could do another list about moms goodbye what did you
[52:39]like about it just the acoustic part or what what was the why did it jump out it's i think it's maybe
[52:43]because it's the one i remember the best because it was on the radio because the line like mother
[52:48]do you think they'll try to break my balls absolutely right yeah i but i think that part
[52:54]where he goes oh they build the wall like it's just it builds and it booms and what did they do
[53:00]i didn't hear that build the wall what was the first build the wall oh build the wall
[53:06]jersey jean showed up again i didn't like the line mother will i thought this was just crushing
[53:13]mother will she break my heart rob did you ever ask your mom if jenny would ever break your heart
[53:17]well you know the story right no i don't i had a girlfriend for four years also named jenny by the
[53:22]way and high school that is smooth it's well smooth transition i didn't have to change any
[53:31]of my tattoos but they now of course my family did call the person i'm married to now jenny number
[53:38]two for a while oh and so i get a phone they'd say hey jenny number two called on the phone jenny
[53:42]goes jenny number two what the fuck is going on here so then for a while people just called her
[53:47]number two which she didn't like either she thought that was a disrespect junior though right
[53:51]excuse me call me uncle dr junior is my mom oh i'm lost i'm lost in the sauce big time
[54:00]so here's the thing is that yeah i did and i when i i met my wife and that week we had been dating
[54:06]for four years i met my wife and i had a chance to go on a date with her i dumped this girl of
[54:10]dating for four years not even thinking twice i would have i would have gone on the date first
[54:14]and then made a decision about dumping that couldn't you have like couldn't you have like
[54:18]played both sides for a little while just to see i mean what if you could have got a
[54:22]burrito from the first girlfriend she wasn't playing both sides that makes sense if you think
[54:29]about it um but so yeah we're talking about getting your leg i told my mom i told my mom
[54:34]like hey i i what am i gonna do like i i i'm i gotta break up with my mom i'm gonna break up with
[54:40]this person i have a school i don't know if she's gonna date me but i she's gorgeous and i think
[54:44]she's great and blah blah and my mom's like you know sometimes breaking up is hard to do
[54:50]but you have to do it artist the person off the bus right i remember that my mom absolutely hated
[54:56]my first girlfriend oh that's good we've heard a bit about that sort of psychological warfare
[55:03]with your sibling next up goodbye blue sky now here we kind of have the theme of it
[55:10]it's about the like the blitz and you think about these guys were probably
[55:14]alive during world war ii right yeah and when they said it was about the blitz i thought this
[55:19]song was about ray lewis ray lewis not earl ecker no ray lewis the guy who's wearing right now
[55:28]always can you play that again though i heard something i want to hear if you heard the same
[55:32]thing here i heard metallica fade to black at the beginning that
[55:40]yeah yeah you're right yeah well right obviously one those guys wouldn't listen to this album right
[55:45]play it again starting how many copies did this thing sell i'm sure it just like
[55:48]it's i believe that's the biggest selling double album of all time yeah okay i think it's right
[55:53]behind the 30 million one more time i also hear hysteria by uh definitely yes
[55:58]yeah yeah there's something else in there too i'm not sure
[56:06]i'm blue
[56:08]i just i'm blue
[56:10]just faint yeah it's just kind of right there
[56:14]oh russell's looking at his notes i think he's going to talk no i think it's like another it
[56:18]sounds like a ruby tuesday again if you get into that one it's that same vibe we heard at the
[56:22]beginning empty spaces the songs i just wrote it sucks but he and his wife are having a uh empty
[56:31]relationship because of physical distance okay maybe one is in las vegas and one is in new york
[56:36]and they're they're singing about how he's constructing an
[56:40]emotional wall talk about a heavy-handed metaphor i mean this is if there's layers to this ship
[56:46]yeah no there's not it's so funny to me it's what happens if you play that song backwards right
[56:51]what's that i believe there's a hidden message didn't wasn't there always uh allegedly hidden
[56:56]messages with led zeppelin i think there were hidden messages with uh the beatles paul's dead
[57:01]with pink floyd as well but if you play this backwards you can hear congratulations you have
[57:05]just discovered this secret message please send your answer to old pink care of the
[57:10]money farm if you listen to it backwards you can hear that that's a secret message they spent all
[57:15]that time doing that that's like that's like on uh what's that christmas christmas story with
[57:20]please drink more oval yeah and he's so pissed up what the fuck i had a turntable once around
[57:26]i had a turntable once that would occasionally spin backwards on it didn't have a backwards
[57:30]setting at all oh i would sell that immediately i couldn't have that it was wild it was like a
[57:35]ghost here's well you know who else got a reverse message once
[57:40]oh my sweet satan uh oh my sweet satan we're closer to magic mike right now than we've ever
[57:49]been you guys i have a little surprise for you mike come on
[57:53]he wants to touch fingers right away and he complimented my shirt that's so weird he made it
[58:00]nice fat guy what if that guy had the thing is magic mike oh my god that'd be a disaster would
[58:05]it jersey jean is magic mike he's i mean what is my horn and sphincter
[58:10]finkel is all of our listeners are like magic mike 69 is a real guy he does live
[58:15]out here on the west coast no he's a real guy he's a great guy and he calls in all the time
[58:20]and sends stuff but yeah he is a real person but he's like prep was he the first person to like
[58:24]call in and correct us it was an itunes review oh i got mad and yelled at him and then he apologized
[58:30]and then changed it yeah he called himself for being factually incorrect i believe if anything
[58:35]he's the one that made me think being mean to fans is cool so actually it's kind of his fault
[58:39]yeah i'm him yeah
[58:40]young lust oh
[58:42]banger i know i like this one yeah i dig this one the lyrics are about a rock and roll refugee
[58:49]seeking casual sex to relieve the tedium of touring keep the teed it's like yeah why don't
[58:56]you just say it's about a rock star like what's the only extra uh one of my turns i forgot this
[59:01]is double album is this song a joke is this an emperor's new clothes situation where they make
[59:08]it and they go hey that's a really good song
[59:10]and they're like no it's not idiot this is an on purpose dumb song well probably but it's not like
[59:15]it sounds like a real song like it sounds like they decided like we're gonna write a pop song
[59:19]that sounds fun and they didn't do it that often so you're like it's kind of cool all right this
[59:26]song is terrible which one is this one of my turns or not one of my turns i was reading this one's
[59:30]about he brings this lady back and she he scares her out of the room because of his rage rob have
[59:35]you ever scared a lady out of the room where they've had to run out when they saw something on
[59:40]you or anything like that or not i russell again i can tell you're not married if the lights are on
[59:47]oh yeah i'm leaving the lights on oh one of us is going to get out of bed
[59:52]i have found uh on this album that i mean we're using the ends of the sheet to mop up
[60:00]the gatorade's right by the bed right there i have found it i didn't notice this until i was
[60:08]started to go through wikipedia that every day i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh
[60:10]every time that uh david gilmore is credited as a writer it's a great song yeah roger waters when
[60:17]it's just roger waters songs sometimes they have some swings and misses so i think it's a good i
[60:21]think that's good so i who was who was pink floyd you know what happened all this stuff but i have
[60:27]found that anytime that uh david gilmore is credited with writing that those are the good
[60:31]songs that i like this is the one where you realize why maybe people thought it was pretentious
[60:35]don't leave me now
[60:40]it's roger waters he thinks of his wife and he feels trapped
[60:43]this sounds like a scream therapy kind of situation moving on uh this song maybe you've
[60:54]heard it before uh another brick in the wall oh which part uh part two another burger in the
[60:59]wall or part three this will be part three back to the future and this is just waters without
[61:05]gilmore but gilmore was on part two that everybody knows what's the best part three
[61:10]ever is it rocky three or what's the best third version of something ever rocky three is fun but
[61:15]i mean he literally wrestles thunder lips in it like it's and that's a hard one it's like oceans
[61:20]13 no baby turn of the jedi is no good godfather three no good well they did fast and the furious
[61:29]three which one's fat that's i don't know i don't know they're all good yeah they're all good so
[61:33]that's gotta be a good choice i think didn't didn't police academy go to miami the third one
[61:37]i don't remember i know it's fine all right
[61:40]police academy movies i bet you know what i bet they hold up if we watch them again i bet not i
[61:46]bet it's not appropriate inappropriate at all goodbye cruel world i just wrote oof that weird
[61:52]guy last night that you talked to sounds like he had a little tackleberry in him was that that
[61:56]guy's name tackleberry the guns yeah isn't that the guy tackleberry and the police academy movies
[62:02]yeah yeah why that guy with all the guns why was that like a big goof
[62:10]i thought he's i thought when he came to you he was like this is a helicopter
[62:13]i think that's winslow uh now we're getting to the second album hey you
[62:20]hits are hits for a reason i'm just gonna say right now the next two the next two are hits
[62:26]and they both have gilmore as a writer legit you're right man you're totally right because
[62:31]that's the thing is right when you think this album is getting weird out there you hear this
[62:34]and you're like this is so good good song i i can't really get down with how slow a lot of the
[62:38]tempos are in this album but we've talked about that a lot of the songs have like half a minute
[62:43]and a half lead-ins to that get a drag a little bit right i i like you know i personally i like
[62:49]those you know i like the long drawn out songs and twists and turns and ups and downs and that
[62:54]kind of comes back to one thing at the end you know so it to me i i i like these songs it's hard
[63:00]to say oh i'm gonna go out and listen you know listen to this but having it on in the background
[63:05]we always ask you know where do you listen to this album right you can't
[63:08]sit in your basement and smoke doobies and listen to this whole thing right so it's got to me it's
[63:13]got to be background type music and maybe i was thinking that they had in mind that you you
[63:18]mentioned one of you guys mentioned daisy confused today i feel so much that this album was made for
[63:23]that final scene of daisy confused for a kid who was putting their headphones on plug them into the
[63:29]turntable and lying on their their bed they were only making an album for someone who's going to
[63:34]listen to the whole thing so i mean yeah maybe background music would be better but i feel like
[63:37]they thought someone needed to be immersed in this i think too it's partially russell's thing
[63:40]where it's like he wants hits and this album has the hits and when the song aren't the hits you're
[63:45]just kind of like i don't know next uh is there anybody out there not the good one no more no this
[63:51]is not the good one this is the one i just wrote wtf next to it it's like some i should have
[63:55]listened to this album this is one about locking himself in his hotel room i'm late
[64:02]i'm late next yeah thank you
[64:07]this is gilmore's favorite song to sing uh nobody home i got second sight about how they were lonely
[64:15]on tour amazing boohoo they just had a song about having sex with people on tour oh i'm so lonely
[64:21]if only i knew this is what the job was going to entail yeah i can't believe being a rock star i
[64:26]should have given them jasmine's ticket for 69 over here i don't even know what she does like
[64:30]teachers are complaining about how much money they make you knew what the what the salary was
[64:34]it's published in the newspaper
[64:37]erin going hard after teachers vera i'm just trying to be on on theme with the album
[64:43]this is an interesting song i think i love it i think i love it but it's so strange
[64:48]you guys like it or not skip ass it's okay but again this is i went to 30 seconds in and the
[64:57]first 24 seconds are like a hum like a little hum it's so strange uh next up we've got bring
[65:05]the boys back or something
[65:07]i say i like this i like i like this sort of anthemic
[65:14]this feels like what british like a british rock album has to have something not like this on it
[65:22]feels very meatloafish yes meatloafish that's one of the great fish fans we're gonna get a shirt
[65:28]that says beck did it better on the front and meatloafish on the back uh next up we've got
[65:35]comfortably numb banger
[65:37]i think this song might be about drugs okay read the lyric it's it's possible yeah
[65:45]brody's finding him non-responsive and then injecting with drugs so that he can perform
[65:51]at the concert that's what it's about maybe i wonder whether there's anything that can help
[65:55]you play blackjack late at night something to think about oh that's why he's gonna feel a little
[65:59]prick i get it oh i thought that was something yeah the show must go on and it must
[66:07]over here
[66:08]i like the floating quality of this one kind of get comfortable
[66:14]show must go on i think they had we've talked to famous backing vocals before i think they had one
[66:21]of the beach boys doing the backing vocals on that one they actually wanted all the beach boys to do
[66:25]them and they couldn't get them so they had as a bruce johnson one of the beach boy they had one
[66:29]beach boy doing the backing vocals was it uncle jesse was he there because you know he played
[66:34]drums for the beach boys forever he toured with it
[66:37]that's why in the background you heard him go whoa no wait that was joey that's different cut it out
[66:44]i don't did uncle jesse have a catchphrase i don't think he did did he his have mercy
[66:50]i heard in the background have mercy by the way uncle jesse's wife on that show was so
[66:58]yeah she was it's so good getting her kids into school
[67:01]she loved getting her kids into college
[67:04]i'll say when uh the super bowl was in the
[67:07]minneapolis um was it 2018 sounds about right something like that 16 actually correct yeah
[67:14]something like that yeah we don't want magic mike calling in but happened to get you know it's like
[67:18]the everybody's in town you can't get a reservation anywhere we ended up getting the reservation for
[67:23]four to uh spoon and stable at 10 30 at night and we had one of our esteemed listeners had heard
[67:30]that the cast of this is us was going to be there she's like we should go and i'm like how are we
[67:35]going to get a you know how are we going to get a reservation and she's like we should go and i'm
[67:37]like how are we going to get a reservation at this time you know it was like the day of
[67:39]and happened to find a reservation so we saw the cast of this is us saw julian edelman just
[67:44]hammered off his ass but then as we were sitting at her table all of a sudden um dj i don't remember
[67:51]her real name dj comes walking by with candace cameron candace cameron with her husband and
[67:56]then aunt becky came walking by she's going to come paul brewery yeah to brewery but then aunt
[68:00]becky but it is stunning to see people like that and like shocking when you see it and it's like
[68:05]hi and then the person we were with like oh
[68:07]how are you and then she's like oh good how are you you know so it was fun but
[68:11]it's weird to see people like that when they just show up but yeah i stars you should have gone up
[68:18]and said to him have mercy have mercy no way has ever said never ever ever said that and been like
[68:23]hey is bob zaget here uh all right the show must go on hit this one already but if you want to do
[68:33]it again it's okay in the flesh
[68:37]this is where it gets weird like he's preaching it's i don't know if it's a neo-nazi theme or
[68:43]whatever the end of this album gets too weird for me yes a little on the long side also yeah
[68:48]but i will say this one is going in my top five guitar intros of all time
[68:54]aaron you this one this one you two song david gilmore i'm like hell
[68:57]it's so good
[69:02]okay i like what he's doing there yeah so many bands started using this technique including you
[69:11]can hear like youtube yeah what's this guitarist name uh mike i was gonna remember this so i never
[69:18]had to call him the fucking edge again but so good did you guys know you know the band i've
[69:25]been into the most recently is dr teeth and the electric mayhem so of course there's got to be a
[69:31]connection with dr teeth and the electric mayhem so i'm going to call him the electric mayhem
[69:32]and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem
[69:32]and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem
[69:32]and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem
[69:32]and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem and i'm going to call him the electric mayhem
[69:32]dr teeth and the electric mayhem with pink floyd first the interesting thing is if you ever go
[69:36]watch the extended cut of the muppets wizard of oz there's a reference to pink floyd and their
[69:43]association with the wizard of oz where you match up the timing like we did for but there's actually
[69:50]a deleted scene where toto in the movie breaks the fourth wall and looks right at the viewer and tells
[69:56]him to start dark side of the moon right now so i thought i couldn't find it because i don't have
[70:02]you know deleted scenes or the dvd with the extended version but another thing that's really
[70:06]interesting dr teeth one of the band members is named floyd pepper he's the does backup vocals
[70:14]and he does the bass music and so he's got a pink body and he's long orange hair you'd probably
[70:19]recognize again we're talking about the muppets band by the way once again this is where we're at
[70:24]but his he was actually named after an influence of sergeant pepper and pink floyd so i thought
[70:31]that was cool that by the way he was actually named after an influence of sergeant pepper and
[70:32]my favorite band dr teeth and the electric mayhem the bass player was influenced by
[70:37]pink floyd there you go great connection waiting for the worms
[70:41]that's some beach boys-esque harmony there yeah i it's again it's the thing just goes on so damn
[70:57]long right so now i have what i call my oof trilogy where i just wrote oof three times in
[71:02]a row for these last three songs stop i wish i want to go home i mean come on guys guys
[71:11]we have some self-respect right the trial
[71:14]i mean when he's writing and recording this you think everybody in the booth is just like
[71:22]thumbs up sounding good i love it this just feels a little theatrical
[71:26]a little over outside the wall last song
[71:32]okay that's it okay listen listen nobody's got me that's it that's us talking about pink floyd the
[71:39]wall let's get into our rating system
[71:42]i've got a special treat for you guys oh i love it the patent and very popular
[71:52]beck did it better rating system oh oh yeah listen we know we are in vegas okay we we can hear i mean
[72:02]i'll open the door of the hotel room real quick you can tell we're in vegas just from that so my
[72:08]treat to everybody's i'm just gonna say this is this album rolling well-toned rolling boned or
[72:12]rolling grown where does it belong on the list matt what do you think i think it's rolling well
[72:16]toned uh again the album itself drags on and it's a little pretentious but the david gilmore songs
[72:24]are unbelievably influential so we get to this thing all the time where it's this is good songs
[72:29]there's a good album i think as an album i think it's a good album i think it's a good album i think
[72:32]it's a good album what are we at 127 here 129 129 gripes getting up there you know at 129 i think
[72:39]this album is great they've got just some iconic iconic songs and a number of them right but the
[72:44]whole album is itself it drags on so i'll say it's rolling well-toned aaron what do you think
[72:48]rolling well-toned rolling bone to rolling grown i might just personally be out on this kind of
[72:52]music it's just it's not really my thing and i i do my best to appreciate the good parts for what
[72:58]they are i think there's some great moments but uh overall just too overstuffed
[73:02]and i gotta give it a rolling groan sounds like me earlier before i came here i got rid of some
[73:07]of that stuff russ what do you think rolling well-toned rolling bone or rolling grown and
[73:10]matt talked about the gilmore hits some of the hits on this are fantastic it's a little bit long
[73:14]and for me there's too many times where you've just got strange atmospheric noise for a minute
[73:19]and a half the one thing i do like is it feels like it's a concept album so it's different than
[73:23]some of the ones we've listened to recent where it's hey just a collection of songs there's clearly
[73:27]um there it's more involved it's it's
[73:32]telling a story which i think a lot of the albums we've listened to it don't really do that so
[73:35]i do like that but for me i don't think i'll come back and listen over and over so i'm going to say
[73:39]a slight rolling groan but it's probably where it should be just because of the influence and
[73:43]it's got a cool cover it's got like like it's got an epic cover to an album too like that stuff
[73:48]matters unfortunately you guys are wrong no come on this this album gets a rolling change in
[73:55]elevation elevation this thing this album is so high at the highs the goods are so high and the
[74:02]lows are subterranean they're incredibly incredibly low now listen next up okay
[74:08]don't worry we won't hurt you we just only want you to i'm just trying the things for the podcast
