[44:58]but I I came I came to work and somebody

[45:02]husband cooked for me and I was like

[45:03]dang that's a great idea so I went on to

[45:06]Google and I typed in Valentine's Day

[45:07]breakfast and I looked at the image

[45:09]search um and then they were too nice so

[45:12]I wrote Valentine's Day breakfast iPhone

[45:14]and then I found some pictures that looks

[45:15]like I could have taken it I was gonna

[45:17]type in Valentine's Day breakfast

[45:19]amateur but I was like well that's weird

[45:21]that I would go right to the word

[45:22]amateur right it's like a search term

[45:24]like that's not even that's not even in

[45:26]someone's normal lexicon if you use the

[45:28]word amateur there's only one place

[45:30]that's coming from those links are

[45:31]purple those links are already purple

[45:33]that's in the Bing search Valentine's Day

[45:35]breakfast tan lines you know it's like

[45:37]just another way around the amateur

[45:40]search so I googled up and I put up

[45:43]multiple pictures I was like oh here's a

[45:49]complimented me and thought I was so

[45:58]amazing because I 100 knew the second I

[46:00]saw that this was a joke I knew Rob was

[46:08]positive reaction hey just keeping it real out there

[46:10]kind of now the only problem with

[46:13]Valentine's Day is that we had a party

[46:15]here for my daughter my wife said listen

[46:18]you got to go in there's a store that

[46:19]sells balloons right there go in and buy

[46:21]some balloons this led to a train of

[46:24]disasters okay this was just disaster

[46:26]after embarrassment after disaster so

[46:27]here I am in the Duane Reade buying

[46:30]balloons immediately I have to go up to

[46:32]the guy hey can I just buy these ones

[46:33]that are already inflated and he looked

[46:34]at me like I was the dumbest thing on

[46:36]two legs and he goes yeah of course so

[46:38]now I am walking around and all the

[46:40]balloons are by the checkout so I walk

[46:41]around the checkout meanwhile people are

[46:43]in line I'm walking around them looking

[46:44]up at the balloons like an idiot like a

[46:46]mole that's a nice balloon that's a nice

[46:48]balloon so I am untapping the balloons

[46:50]from the decorations of the store so

[46:52]once again I look like an idiot right as

[46:54]I walk around to the checkout my balloons

[46:57]get tangled with the store balloons no

[47:00]and immediately it forms uh geordian knot

[47:03]the likes of which I have never seen

[47:05]okay I it immediately forms a toughest

[47:08]knot and the worst thing possible happens

[47:10]the guy behind me starts helping me

[47:11]untie the knot did your fingers touch or

[47:14]not they definitely touch you're like

[47:16]trying to do the knot together and

[47:17]meanwhile there's like people in line

[47:18]and I'm like and the whole time I'm just

[47:21]thinking of this voice of Jenny's but

[47:23]why don't you just go by there buying

[47:24]some balloons buy some balloons buy some

[47:26]balloons and I'm like this I knew this

[47:27]was gonna be a disaster so then I get

[47:30]the balloons okay walk out okay walk out

[47:34]of the store so now I am walking down

[47:36]Lexington Avenue in New York City with a

[47:39]bunch of balloons

[47:39]it is so windy and so cold so what do

[47:43]the balloons immediately do deflate the

[47:45]balloons are so cold they immediately

[47:47]deflate like halfway so now instead of

[47:48]looking like a cool guy with

[47:49]Valentine's Day balloons first of all

[47:51]by the way when you're an adult carrying

[47:53]balloons on Valentine's Day everybody

[47:55]every woman is looking at you like you

[47:57]cheap son of a that's what you're

[47:58]gonna get your wife are balloons what

[48:01]is going on you're getting balloons for

[48:03]your wife for Valentine's I'm like no

[48:04]this is for so I had to like walk around

[48:06]be like this is for a kid's party this

[48:08]is for a kid's party they that didn't make

[48:09]any better no I don't think that makes

[48:12]it better either right no it doesn't

[48:13]help me yeah hey there's a guy walking

[48:15]around with balloons saying it's for a

[48:16]kid's party not great so then it's

[48:19]halfway deflated I go into the liquor

[48:20]store okay buy some liquor liquor store

[48:24]not big enough to hold these balloons

[48:25]ceiling's not tall enough so the balloons

[48:27]are bumping everything's moving I'm

[48:29]looking around everybody's looking at me

[48:30]with the balloons so now I have a bottle

[48:33]of I have a bag full liquor walk down

[48:35]to the grocery store that Jenny says oh

[48:37]don't meet me at the grocery store three

[48:39]blocks away you want to guess what's in

[48:40]between me and the grocery store only

[48:42]the most sharp pointy trees I've ever

[48:44]seen in my whole life it was like a

[48:46]video game level I am walking through

[48:48]trying to move the balloons meanwhile

[48:50]the wind is whipping the balloons around

[48:51]it's hitting people in the face that are

[48:53]walking by me and of course every all

[48:54]the sidewalks are super narrow I then

[48:57]have to go into a grocery store with the

[49:00]balloons now what does this grocery

[49:01]store also sell do you want to guess

[49:02]balloons balloons so I look like a guy

[49:05]who stole balloons and is now walking

[49:07]around and I'm like I'm gonna have to

[49:08]walk out of here and just they also sell

[49:10]these are my balloons what did you buy

[49:12]for liquor by the way what was your

[49:14]what's your liquor style on Valentine's

[49:15]Day it's just some red breast I don't

[49:17]know if you've ever heard of it it's not

[49:18]a big deal uh and some grenadine because

[49:20]again this is for a kid's party I was

[49:22]making surely demos grenadine I was like

[49:24]shino liqueur so then oh just you might

[49:29]think it's over guess what I've got to

[49:30]take now all the grocery bags because of

[49:33]course she's off to do something else

[49:34]I'm taking all the grocery store bags to

[49:36]the subway oh do you just walk down the

[49:39]escalator to get to the subway nope it's

[49:40]an elevator so now I have to get into an

[49:42]elevator with these balloons then get on

[49:45]probably the most crowded subway car I've

[49:47]been on in quite some time and here I am

[49:49]with these giant balloons on the crowded

[49:51]subway humiliating I come back and my

[49:53]daughter says oh those are okay so that

[49:57]is my balloon story you had to know when

[49:59]you got sent out on this mission that it

[50:01]was gonna be you can't get on a subway

[50:03]with balloons and think that's gonna go

[50:04]so well right you have to be aware of

[50:06]this I would rather get on with the

[50:08]Christmas tree that I get on with

[50:09]getting out of the Christmas tree was at

[50:11]least cool and fun getting out with

[50:13]Valentine's Day balloons was humiliating

[50:15]because it literally they like move

[50:17]around and bonk people in the head and

[50:18]I'm like yeah I'm sorry the balloon my

[50:21]balloons are bonking you in the head I

[50:22]don't know what to do like Aaron and Matt

[50:25]did you get your wife's Valentine's Day

[50:27]balloons uh no no Sarah did give me a

[50:31]nice card though this year but a very

[51:18]1976 and basically the big thing about

[51:21]this album so this is what is this our

[51:23]third Joni Mitchell is this our fourth I

[51:25]think it's the third yeah um and and

[51:27]Hajira is her eighth album and basically

[51:30]this was based around Hajira means uh

[51:33]travel and this was based around three

[51:35]trips that she took one with Bob Dylan

[51:37]on tour on tour for a six-week tour of

[51:39]her own until that broke up because she

[51:41]had been dating the drummer who's going

[51:43]to come up over and over and they had a

[51:45]bit of a tumultuous relationship uh due

[51:47]to the fact that she was the guy

[51:48]who played Chuck Yeager in the right

[51:50]movie the right stuff so something to

[51:52]think about when you're watching a movie

[51:53]it's it's better than the

[51:55]lighting guy or whoever what's her name

[51:57]Fleetwood Mac was getting on with right yeah the grip

[52:00]the grip uh was that what it is a lady

[52:04]yeah but it was a lighting guy grip the

[52:06]gaffer I think they just called him the

[52:08]grip um and then the uh so then yeah so

[52:13]then basically and then she took a road

[52:15]trip with uh an old Australian uh steward

[52:19]that she had been having an affair with

[52:21]and did a road trip with him and

[52:23]somebody else all the way to Maine and

[52:25]then she drove back to California all by

[52:26]herself what you're gonna hear on this

[52:27]album is that by her eighth album Joni

[52:29]Mitchell is bored she's bored of the pop

[52:30]pop

[52:30]pop

[52:30]pop sound she thinks a lot of the uh

[52:32]session musicians are missing like the

[52:33]the kind of the effervescence of the

[52:35]music and so she's they say hey you

[52:38]should go find some don't make me sound

[52:40]like a moron when you say that Aaron

[52:42]wait no I liked it no I was I was

[52:44]honestly it was like that's a great turn

[52:45]of phrase yeah you know what thank you

[52:47]see I take compliments sincere I'm good

[52:50]at it uh and basically she began to seek

[52:52]out Jazz musicians who to play Jazz

[52:55]musicians to play on the album um and so

[52:58]she got linked with this Jocko Pistorius

[52:59]who's a famous bass player and so you

[53:01]hear a lot of kind of I don't know like

[53:04]running fretless bass on this album you

[53:06]hear uh you know just kind of a more of

[53:08]a I hate to say it Aaron but I think

[53:10]this album is influenced by Jazz I think

[53:13]it's fair to say with this album and I

[53:14]think it was a gateway for her because

[53:16]then she ended up doing albums with

[53:18]Wayne Shorter who was in weather report

[53:20]with Jocko Pistorius right and with

[53:21]Charles Megas so I think this I think

[53:24]this truly was but Rob you play some

[53:26]bass have you ever played fretless bass

[53:28]I don't even know how this works yeah of

[53:30]course I bought you know that when I

[53:32]bought my first base it was immediately

[53:34]a six-string fretless bass one of the

[53:36]hardest instruments to play an

[53:38]incredible waste of money for my

[53:39]parents the worst thing you could

[53:41]possibly buy to learn to play the bass

[53:42]and just how the hell yeah how do you

[53:44]even begin learning this instrument you

[53:46]just put your finger on the thing and

[53:47]then it makes notes and then everybody's

[53:49]like yeah that's okay I guess but I mean

[53:51]that's crazy right so that means I I know

[53:53]we need to play the music but that means

[53:55]that all of the tracks that Jocko was

[53:57]playing on here yeah we're listening he

[54:00]just knows by what geometric feel

[54:04]there's little dots those little inlays

[54:07]you know like the pearl inlays on a

[54:09]guitar so they'll tell you where to put

[54:10]the fingers but yeah you kind of have to

[54:12]guess and then use your ear to hit that

[54:14]note I mean it's like playing an upright

[54:15]bass okay you know they don't have frets

[54:17]all that stuff like that's true but uh

[54:20]yeah it turns out it's actually really

[54:21]hard to learn and it sounds off-key for

[54:23]most of it so it's not great not a great way to play the bass

[54:25]that's a great decision okay and once

[54:27]again Rob just going to whole hog

[54:28]immediately on a hobby oh that's so

[54:30]weird by the way where am I going to put

[54:32]my four microphones and headphones I

[54:34]have for my in-person recording setup

[54:35]that I have anyway that doesn't relate

[54:37]that's not important let's get into

[54:41]might surprise you that this album which

[54:42]is jazz inspired did not sell very well

[54:45]all right all the bad I can't understand

[54:47]how this wouldn't have been a bunch of

[54:49]radio hits it's been reassessed now as

[54:51]one of our bigger albums but let's start

[54:53]you're just going to get a taste of it

[55:23]that this was I think the only the only

[55:25]single on the album is that right I

[55:30]really like this song I'm glad they put

[55:33]it right here because it made me listen

[55:34]to the rest of the album to try to find

[55:36]a song as good as this one

[55:37]still listening but it was a good way to

[55:43]start the album let me say this song

[55:45]has a lot of references to hitchhikers

[55:46]or hitchers as she calls them you guys

[55:48]ever hitchhiked or would you ever pick

[55:50]up a hitchhiker oh I've never have no I've

[55:54]never done I I think if my life was at

[55:57]the absolute bottom I think picking up a

[55:59]hitchhiker would be kind of funny be

[56:00]like talking to that bus driver except

[56:04]like it's just that much more it's like

[72:49]the greatest bass holes I ever saw was when I went and saw that Prince concert and somebody handed him

[72:52]a bass and he ripped a bass solo and then put it back and I was like what I was like what yeah what
