Love: Forever Changes (1967)

Beck Did It Better Podcast 1967
About this episodeTo be or not to be the best podcast about Love, and the 180th greatest album of all time, Forever Changes...that is the question. Before we answer that question we turn this double-stuffed episode into a mega-stuffed episode when we plead fifth to a voicemail about Viagra. We also discuss the virtue of cleaning your hot sauce bottles, couples retreats, and the best movies about bands. Just like the Droids at the Carnival Court in Vegas, this podcast is wack as hell. Then at (1:00:00), we set the scene for the rock band Love's 1968 album, Forever Changes. We discuss contemporary bands from the

[0:00]Quick episode. We're going to do a quick episode tonight. But I was an actor today in my high school's play. Now, you might say to yourself, oh, Rob, you had a dream where you went back to high school? No. I had my light on. It was too bright. It was distracting me. Doing your star. The high school I work at. Like a diamond. The high school I work at. So I was in a play. You're in the play with the other high schoolers. No. And again, I am 43 years old. So when you say other high schoolers, that's not me. Okay? I got two lines. It's a Shakespearean play. I'm in a Shakespearean play, guys. And I've got a performance tonight. I've got one tomorrow night. Wow. To be or not to be. That is the question. Marriage. Okay, so you guys are actually showing me that you're not. As good of an actor as I am.

[1:00]Because, although I will say, I went to a rehearsal and I had two lines. And I did them. And the director goes, okay, we're going to cut that last line. So now I have a total of one line. Oh, no. All right? I come out. I say this line. I have to wrestle a kid, pick him up, spin him around. He knocks me out. And then a student, much, and this turns out, this is the biggest laugh that I get. Is the student has to drag me off stage. For some reason, that gets a laugh every time. You would need like 12 high school students to drag you off stage. You're a fucking world-class power lifter. Yeah, at your school. What I've heard about these kids. I think it might be because while he is pulling me off, I am pushing very hard with my feet. My feet are scrambling like a cartoon mouse. And that gets a huge laugh. But the point is, tonight I came out, I yelled my line, blew out my voice. Got to project. My voice is rough today. And I have my tea. I'm drinking tea, Aaron. Okay? I know. I know you were talking about your low tea earlier.

[2:00]I don't, is this, were you out of tea? Is that what you were talking about? We should all get ours tested. Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great. Some achieve greatness. And others just overspeak their lines. Oh, no, not. I was emoting. God, my kid just came home. I thought it was my wife. And I freaked out. We know what we are, but not that we are terrible actors. So, Russell? That's beautiful. Yes. Wow. Good stuff. So, after the scene, I get dragged off stage. I get up. Everybody gives me a high five. I then walk out the back door, grab my bag, and I go home. You leave. Yeah, I leave. You didn't even stay for the end for like the bow? The scene is two minutes into the play. I'm in the play for a total of two minutes, never to be seen again. Love it. Aren't you supposed to like hang out and smoke cigarettes afterwards with all the other high schoolers? Isn't that what all the thespians do? When you're a teacher, you go to the bar after school, but before the play. Yes. So, then tonight, I was in there in full Johnny Depp mode.

[3:00]Okay. That's great. Man, I don't know. I occasionally don't have a drink at night now. It's still occasional. And if I don't and my wife does, I know I can smell booze. And so, now I'm like, oh, boy, I must smell like booze all the time. If I go have a drink before T-ball practice or something, I can't do that anymore. That's not a good idea. Well, that's what I call ghost breath. It smells like booze. All right, Russell, let's hear your best lines. This above all to this podcast, self be true. I always say what I say when I'm done at the urinal? I always go, is this a Globe Theater? Because I'm over here shaking this spear. That's a transition point. And we're going into the show. Three, two, in 2020, four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums decided by Rolling Stone Magazine. This resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music, excoriated the order, and led us

[4:00]To making this podcast. We are far from experts. We promise to do almost no research. All opinions are our own, unless you disagree. Please sit back and enjoy. Beck did it better. And I just realized that I didn't start my recording on Rob's Right. Rob's Right. Okay? That's a normal thing that happens on this show, where I just say that and repeat it over and over. Nothing weird. All the way up to album 179. Kind of. By the way, just kind of. And from 1967, we have an album from the band Love. Go ahead and guess which album of theirs. Oh, did you say Forever Changes? You should be hosting this podcast. You know more than I did. Oh, my God. Okay? So, let's, guys, no messing around today. Okay? Russell already. So, let's turn on the radio and get right into it. And, yeah. I'm just going to say, have you ever tried to do karaoke to a song that you didn't know

[5:00]Any part of, ever? You've never heard it before in your life? No? Okay. Here we go. Hey, everybody. Welcome to K-Rob. K-R-O-B. You know, as we go through this list, and Big Papa Rob has to write some songs, it turns out there's some albums where he doesn't know any songs, and he actually has to listen to the music as he goes. And it makes it rough. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Parody songs I write, but I regret. I have a lot of other things that I could do with my time. I haven't made a new sound drop in a year or two. My voice. And I only have to do this for seven more years. Oh, my God. Oh, yeah. You know. Sometimes Rob just doesn't know what the song is and has trouble singing it.

[6:00]Maybe he doesn't get the melody and has to listen to four notes at a time, but he has to do it because why? That's 320 more songs to sing. I have to make them all funny. Oh, my God. And I have to think about what I have done. This was never requested by anyone. And I haven't gotten a compliment in years. That's not true. No, everyone. Everyone loves it. John, for me, Dynas. Guys, I figured out the perfect parody song for me. It's where I make a song about, oh, I can't sing, and then I don't have to try very hard. And at the end, I say, I haven't gotten any compliments. Man, have we? I actually listen to a lot of producers where they put those vocals a little further back

[7:00]With the voices struggling. It seemed like Rob's voice was a little front and center. A little frontal. A little forward for that song. A little frontal. To be or not to be on this podcast. That is the question. Oh, I like that. There's no question there. We should ponder that one. Listen, I've got four guys here. This is back to it better. We're talking about love. Okay? Just talking about love. That's an album I wish I was listening to. Everyone, listen. I've got four guys here who can't. You usually. But occasionally. I want to talk about me. I've got four guys here. That's Rob's theme song. I want to talk about you. I want to talk about we. I want to talk about you and I. What? We'll put a boot in your ass. That's the American way. Yeah, that one as well. It comes right up next in the line. These colors don't run, but they're the same. Same colors as France. Apropos for today. I guess we're trying to win an election.

[8:00]We're going to go bomb some people. Oops. Sorry. Take it out. Aaron. Oh, sorry. What are you doing, Aaron? What the fuck? Joe Biden's like, I saw Obama and all of his drones. What if those drones had pilots? That would be, that would rule. Back to the beginning. We're some aviators. Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. Listen, Henry Kissinger gave me one last wish before his death. Oh my God. I have to fulfill it. I said I would. All the way off the rails. All right. I've got four guys here who can't wait to tell me the first time they heard this album. For me, it might've been about two years ago. Yeah. I've got Matt in Minneapolis. Matt, how are you doing today? Good, Rob. You know, I usually come up with some sort of lyrics, but I know nothing. So I'm just going to say, I feel really phony when my name is Phil. Or was that Bill? I couldn't tell. I was, yeah, it was the hard one to decipher. Yeah. And I've got, Russell in, Minneapolis, who, is a trained actor and he's proven

[9:00]That to us tonight. Rob, I still have my Vegas hotel room shackles. You can come and look if you want to. Are we going to get into that? You wouldn't think they would hold onto a hotel bed like they did you? I mean, that was impressive. The first photo I have of Russell is at 5 38 PM on Sunday. So they definitely held until they held until 5 38 PM. And I've got Aaron out in California. Now Aaron's nickname at work. And guys, if you think this isn't a timely joke, just wait, set your watches to this joke. My friends, they call Aaron at work. They call him the seven 37. Cause he's got a few screws loose and he's the guy off. No, what the fuck? No, that's that right? Rob, the snot has caked on my jeans. That's so gross. It's turned into crystal. Oh, I guess I'll go grab my pistol.

[10:00]Let's talk about love forever. Changes. This is actually, I really there's Aaron and his second amendment bullshit again. This is like the most 1967 album of all 1967. I'm really excited. This is the 1967 is we've ever talked about except for Sergeant peppers. This is, can we not go one week without you talking about what the founders intended with the second amendment? Not one week. You know what? I it's you guys. Everybody has an ax to grind. Yeah. Meanwhile, these soldiers are staying in my quarters. What can I do? Who left their musket out in the hallway again? I, Aaron has that shirt that has a big red circle through 19th amendment. I'm like, that's we're not there yet. That's no, you can't be the first one to be on that train. There's no way I'd be the first. There's gotta be. That's out there. Here's a question. We're going to play a game. Quick. Name that amendment and like name that, to how many amendments could you name? If I started at one

[11:00]I'm going to let you guys bid on how many you can get. And whoever is the highest, we'll see if they can do it. No. Okay. How many can you get? We'll go. We'll let you bid at the winner bid. The winning bid has to try. I can name this bill of rights. It says the bill of rights, right? That's only the first 10, right? Yeah. I can name this bill of rights in four amendments. Four. I can only name three amendments. Man. I'm going to say two or I'm going to go to. Okay. Well, no, now I can do, Now I can do four. Cause Rob clued us in on the 19th, but you go first, Rob, let's go first. First amendment. You got a freedom of speech. Okay. You can yell fire in a theater. There's a movie theater in this fire. Aaron can really just took my joke. Well, it's the only joke to make. Okay. Or like presidents can say whatever they want, like they're immune or whatever. Yeah. Okay. And actually if the election was stolen from them, they could probably get back. Probably the real president. Corporations are people or whatever the fuck.

[12:00]Second amendment. Okay. The one with the loophole about gun shows. Okay. I'm going to say, Oh, I know. Hey, I'll take the fifth amendment. I know the last name of that one. Boom. Okay. I cannot testify. That is part of it. Self-incrimination is part of it with grand jury, double jeopardy, due process, and the takings clause. I take the fifth amendment. If I was jacking off in that theater, where I yelled fire and I was jacking off in that theater. No, wait, I didn't say that. Fuck. No. Can I take the, you got three. Can you name a fourth? Retroactively take the fifth. Name that tune. Name that amendment. The 14th amendment. That's an easy one. You should be able to get that one. 14th. Is that the one about the president going? Cuckoo. That's about, yeah. If you're old, if you're old, you must be president. Oh God. Okay. The 19th is the women voting one. Okay. My favorite Aaron. Don't do that. Rob,

[13:00]You've got your fourth amendment. Can you keep going or not? How many could you get? I think the, I'm pretty sure the third amendment is the soldiers quartered. Isn't it? We've got quartered soldiers for the third. We've got quartered soldiers. Oh, wow. Okay. I've just started. Keep going. Okay. Hmm. You guys should be able to get the fourth amendment. Don't covet your neighbor's. Matt. If you were to maybe take something you shouldn't on a plane, there might be a, An amendment to protect you. You know, what do you think about that or not? Use the right to shit in public. Wait for your dog to shit in public. Correct. Technically it goes by search and seizure. Search and seizure. Yep. I have no idea what you guys are talking about. There's a fifth amendment response. Okay. I know the 21st air. So you're the 21st. What do you got? Repeal of prohibition. Damn Aaron.

[14:00]Which one? So what was the 19th? There's a right to vote after that one. So it's easy. Yeah. 19th. I thought that was, what was the, what's the 14th amendment? 14th is the, if you incite a insurrection, you can run. I will take his answers. Citizenship rights, equal protection, which is the biggest part of the protection amendment. Civil war debt. Of course, a big thing that we discussed. We discussed very often civil war debt and apportionment. When I, wow, that sounds like me trying to eat some cake. I mean, just to when I don't want to eat my whole, excuse me, I'm going to retake that at Rob. Edit this part out. When I don't want to eat my whole peppermint patty. I, what was the word Russell? Rob edit this out too. What was the word apportionment? Yes. I eat apportionment. Oh, that's, that's good. That's really good. All right. Now there are two, that might be important just in case we ever have a problem with copyright. It's the six,

[15:00]A right to a speedy trial by jury. In the seventh amendment, we are also entitled to a jury trial in civil lawsuits. Can you imagine if there's a jury of our peers and it's just like, do you have a podcast? Yes. Are you going to like penis? Do you like penis jokes? Yes. We're good. Okay. Well, every white podcast host. No, that's great. You would know because as soon as, as you said, do you have a podcast? They would get so excited because nobody has ever said that my nutritionist said, Hey, what's the name of your podcast? I might want to listen. I was like, Oh, I was like, well, you should check out the Jimmy Cliff episode. Cause I go hard. Okay. Nobody tells me what to do. Nutritionist is going to hear my leather mask bit. You guys want to hear something extremely hilarious. I think relatively speaking to our. Yeah. Is it about what happened in Mexico? Yeah. Nope. I have no idea what you're talking about. A couple of listeners of the show. I think we've talked about maybe one at a time. There's a podcast called corporate confesh.

[16:00]Oh yeah. They're up to 30,000 listens an episode and they're on episode seven, 30,000. They've got a, they've got a sponsor. They've got everything. Dang. How many do we have Rob? Good for them. I think we've been in like three 20 an episode for two years. Yep. Ooh, I would love three 20 honestly. Three 20. We're at 300. That's a lot. Thank you. Galaxy phones for accidentally downloading a ton of our podcast. Speaking of our listeners, the eighth amendment, cruel and unusual punishment. Oh, wow. Shouldn't have known that one. Wow. The ninth non enumerated rights retained by people. What is that? No, we, no, we're not asking. Keep going. Here's the 10th comes up a lot. Aaron's often bringing this one up. Rights reserved to the States or to the people. That's right. Yeah, it's right. Some about that one. The 11th might come up. If Rob is unhappy with the Minnesota state flag,

[17:00]It suits against States. My favorite Netflix show. The 12th. When Rob made his trip to the white, they're the capital of January six. We've got election of a president and a vice president. Wow. That wait, which one is that? That's 12th. It says, how did they, how does that 12th? That feels like it should be first, right? Like how's that? 12th. I don't know, but we're not going to make jokes about like the next four or five. Okay. The 16th amendment, something this podcast doesn't have to worry about. That would be income tax. Nice. Not a problem here. Never concerns. Okay. Now, okay. Russell, are you waiting so long? Cause you want me to say something about a come tax. Okay. I think you might've been talking about poll taxes. That would be the 24th amendment, the abolition of poll tax. The poll taxes. Hey, I got a poll tax. How about coming over here and doing some income tax episode from now on?

[18:00]The last one we'll get to the 27th amendment. It's a very important one for us. It also doesn't apply to us because we don't get compensated. It's congressional compensation. Wow. That's the most recent amendment is congressional compensation. It hasn't been amended since then. According to constitution center.org. It is. Wow. And that's on the internet and you can't put anything on the internet. That's not true. If you guys could make a 28th amendment, what would you add? Free hard daddy shirts for all. How about the freedom to be you? The freedom to be you? No, no, no discrimination based on who you are. You know what? Honestly, guy thongs. I listen. I know I can go. Does that mean guy? Does that mean there'll be some guy whale tails then? Yeah. No, me a hundred percent. A hundred percent. I would wear a thong in a second if I could. And listen, I 28, my, my 28th, amendment allows you to do that. You can be you can wear a thong. No, but I want them to make it like a,

[19:00]Like a, a cotton thong guys. Do you know how hot my butt gets? Just all the time. My butt's hot all the time. I could air that thing out. I don't know. Speaking of hot butts is it, does McDonald's have 24 hour breakfast everywhere now? Is that like a thing or not yet? I think it is, but it's like a limited. See, that would be my, because I, because back in the day, if the, I think we, we talked about this. If the uptown McDonald's across from the theater had late night breakfast, that really would have been what you needed for those midnight movies at the Uptown. That's me. Is that just a hash Brown? You're just getting hammered in a hash Brown. Just like go, go grab a McMuffin and head to the movies. When I meet the hash Brown, I'm taking a bite out of one end. I'm taking a bite out of the other end and I'm throwing the middle away. Don't need it. It's too mushy. Hey, give me the crispy ends. So do you take a bite of the crispy end and then, and take it out of the bag and turn it around? Yep. And then I throw the rest away. Don't need it. No,

[20:00]You don't. Yep. Well, I would if I was living in Aaron's America. Oh, okay. Plus I wouldn't have to get this vaccine. All right. You guys know what my 20 would be? It's gotta be self-checkout lines. Old people. You're out. I'm sorry. 28th amendment. You're out on self-checkout lines. That's insane. I'm going to discriminate. I'm not going to vote against that one. I guess maybe I'll abstain. It's like, it's like condoms are under sea. You know what I mean? Like you go to the sea. Us on the Beck line. 802-277-BECK. 802-277-2325. Just like whenever, ever something comes up, that's important. Aaron votes present. Yep. That's right. I'm voting present on the old people in the self-checkout. And I am, when I go to a self-checkout, I am so good. They want to hire me for the regular checkout. I am so efficient. I'm putting everything in a bag.

[21:00]I'm pushing no bag. I'm doing my electronic payment. It's like when I'm at the airport, when I'm at the airport, I could go through security without even stop walking. I'm so, I'm just like my belt, my wallet, everything's in my bag. I should get an award for that. And instead what happens every time the fucking self-checkout machine breaks and the woman has to come over and I have to explain, well, I'm buying this mega stuff and this box of, this double stuff. Cause I want to see, okay, what exactly does mega mean compared to double? And I should get it. I have to be like, Oh, Oh, is this your Cadbury egg? No, that's not my, I buy a double stuff and mega stuff. You think I'm buying a Cadbury egg too? In February when those are over a year old. I know that. How do I know? I mean, I think, Oh, they have those. Rob, you tried to explain to me in Vegas, the difference between mega and double. And I haven't been able to look you in the eye since. Listen, we need voicemail callers. Okay. I'm begging. Okay. I'm down on my knees. I'm begging. Okay.

[22:00]If I had a 28th amendment, I would say more voicemail callers. They have to call the back line. Just say something like, what's your favorite food? What's your favorite amendment? No, you can't say that anymore. That's not interesting. What's your favorite food? How many times have we talked about our favorite foods? No one, please do not call the back line. Aaron, what's the food you jamming on right now? You need to look in the mirror. You just repeated what you've talked about for three and a half years. I know. That's what No one needs to know anymore about what I eat. You don't even have to say anything weird. Just let me tell you why I bring up food so much. What's the food you're jamming on right now? Like what's something you're like. Corn tortillas. I really figured out my corn tortilla heating technique and it's much, it really finally like. Okay. What is it? I got to know. Guys, his food he's jamming on is corn tortillas. Yeah. What's your heating method? It's very simple. I watched a good YouTube, a video about it by a guy named internet Shaquille who's not Shaquille O'Neal. And it's very simple. You just,

[23:00]You need to brush them with water and heat them in a nonstick skillet on both sides for 30 seconds to a minute. And then put them. I mean, if you got a nice, I have a nice tortilla warmer. So I put them in there or you can wrap them in a towel, let them steam for like five minutes and then they're good to go. And then they don't, they don't break when you eat with them, but you can't like you just, you have to take care. You have to really reheat them. You can't just like, I always put them between two damp paper towels and then heat them up in the microwave. It works. Yep. Works pretty well. Yep. Microwave works too. Hey guys, this is a Bob calling in from Richfield. I just want to know what's your favorite food. That's a great call, Bob. Aaron, why don't you go first? I would say Aaron, shut up for a second. I would say mega stuff Oreos. They don't quite have enough stuffing, but I do love them and I'm not embarrassed to buy them. Caught up on the last three episodes.

[24:00]Your fascination with penises and gambling gave me a great idea for an episode. Each of you take Viagra and measure your junk. Before you share the results, have the wives discuss what they expect the results to be based on what they know of each one of you place bets on length, girth, color, shape, et cetera. Oh my God. Then everyone cook a vegan meal together and have a fuck fest. It can be a whole episode. Is this from Mike? No, Mike usually calls. That's gotta be Mike. That sounds like a Mike. No, that's not. That is from now. Russell and I, I told you up there, stop. I told you no more. Russell and I, we've discussed the trick of decathlon and mania contest from undergrad many times. And one of the items in that contest was to acquire some Viagra and we did, and we were in the presence of Viagra and no one,

[25:00]Everyone was too scared to try it. Nobody was like, nobody wanted to have a boner for like 48 hours. Can I ask you this? I think about Viagra. This is what I worry about. Then it would get too hard. You don't even touch it. You're like, Oh, that doesn't even feel good. Like what happens then? That was our concern. We're like, you just walk around. Like we were 21 years old living in a dorm. Like you can't just walk around with a boner any more than you already do. Like, it's not a good idea. You're about to find out. But now I guess we're in our forties now. There's, there's times in your life. There's, there's a few times in your life where people know, like people who you didn't have sex with know that you just orgasmed, like within the last hour, like there's just like a couple of times, like you're on a cruise, you come, you go up, you come back down or like, they just know, right? Whatever. They know. I think that if somebody in college took Viagra and then like saw you later in the day, that would be one of those times.

[26:00]Cause you'd be like, well, that Viagra worked. All right. That would be a, I don't know. What would you, nothing like taking some Viagra that's sitting around and playing NCAA football with your buddies for the next 48 hours. Right. That was the other issue. Like, okay. It's not like I've got, it's not like I've got a ready supply of someone to help me take care of this issue. Do you, I think that caller meant that we should have each other's wives talk about what our penises would look like. Like his Aaron's wife at gmail.com going to guess what my penis looks like. I, or is she going to guess what Aaron's penis looks like? You know what I mean? Cause I can picture Aaron's penis. Cause look at the window. I mean it's similar. Especially when he laughs like that. I think actually all of our zoom windows, it's probably similar. Listen, was that a better voicemail than what's your favorite food? I don't know. Toss up. All right. Let's get into everybody's favorite section. Rolling. Go. Oh my God. It's time to see.

[27:00]We're going to fly. It's time for rolling. Go. Oh yeah. Aaron. What's up? Yeah. You know, what's up is things I'm excited about are I went to a restaurant. It's been a while now. It was like around Christmas, but we, we stopped to have some brunch while we were Christmas shopping. You guys ever go to a restaurant and notice how clean their hot sauce bottles are. Like you go for some hot sauce. What? And it's like, it doesn't have, there's no like crust on it. Yeah. There's no like, it's not sticky when you handle it. Yeah. Most rest, most restaurants, it's kind of just best practice to wipe all that shit down every night. Yeah. Before it finally dawned on me, I should do that at home too. So it's great. Like I go to get some hot sauce out of the fridge. I really thank my past self for wiping that thing down, man. Oh, you're wiping your sauces.

[28:00]What are you wiping? Yeah. Just like a rag in the cone. And then, so now you have a rag that's like fish sauce and soy sauce. I got chef's towels. I got some here. What else do you do with that rag? Oh, Aaron, you're putting chef's towels and you're wiping sauce on it. Those are for the guests, man. No, they're like, they're from kitchen towels. They're for like that's your side towel. If you're cooking, man, you gotta have some of these. I like the way you talk about that side towel. Hey, you gotta have it. What'd you just say? I don't, I have a question. I have a question about towels for you guys in restaurants. Okay. I know someone that when, if you go to a restaurant and they're done eating, we're not going to even get close to that, but if you go out to eat and you've got a cloth napkin, I would never in my life put the cloth napkin on top of a plate that had food in it. I would always keep it like, I would never put it in like something that could have sauce or food. I would always just put it like off to the side. I would never put it on or in something.

[29:00]What are your guys? What do you do with a cloth napkin when you're done with it? Just putting it in, putting it, covering your food. Like it's a woman, like it's somebody who's just died in the hospital or whatever. Disgusting. I think even putting just a paper napkin in there, I think that's gross. I, to the side, you're done. Have them pick it up. I just cannot stand it when people put their napkins, the food Russell, that is such a good call. Rob. And the question is, am I allowed to, when the person isn't looking, maybe reach over and move that napkin off of the plate? Sure. Yeah. Just like sly, like, Oh, I'm going to just slide this. Yeah. Why not? Russell, if you get caught doing that, because when she looks down, she will notice the napkin is full of food yet not on the plate. You are going to have some explaining to do. Okay. That is like the physical, like of a shush. I think. Yeah. I don't know what do you do? How do you get somebody to stop that? I've, I've tried squirting with like a squirt bottle,

[30:00]Like a cat, but it hasn't worked yet. Well, you can, oh my God. It's just, tried squirting. Russell is squirting. It's just getting out of control. I tried to ski, but it's been ultimate. She's like, she's like, oh, my face is all wet. I need my napkin. And then she puts it, it's just gravy all over her face. She's like, wait, no, I forgot my napkin with my food. Russell's squirting again. Yeah. Oh no. I told you, every time we go out, you get gravy in your face. Every single time. Don't put your napkin in your food anymore. Okay. Well, don't squirt me with that squirt gun. I told you it's a super soaker 100. And you know, I bring it in. I'm more of a 250 guy. Like the backpack, like the full backpack one. I'm a 250. The super soaker 100, the blue with the yellow balls is a classic squirt gun. That, when that thing came out, it blew my fucking mind. Cause you went directly as squirt gun. Literally that super soaker was like the equivalent of the machine gun in world war one squirt guns before we're like little pistols.

[31:00]They always leaked. They lasted for a day. And then the rich kid on your block. Wait a minute. And that could have been, who could have been the rich guy on the block? You get that super soaker. And it is like if an arm, it's like when an army fought, like the emus, like you really know what it was like to just slaughter Buffalo. Like how awesome that would have been. You're just sitting there with a super soaker collecting your neighbor's tongues. Here's, Here's, here's a Venn diagram. Super soaker, 100 kids and the kids who played the baritone in the high school band. There is a 100% overlap. Like you had the super soaker 100 instead of the 50. You are one of those kids. Listen, I'm just going to tell you right now. I'm going to make a shirt. You got to be the 50. And I've said, I've said this before. I'm going to make a shirt and I haven't done it, but this time I swear to God, I am where it's a Venn diagram of a baritone and a super soaker 100.

[32:00]And then one of those kids in the middle and somebody's going to come and be like, I get it like two circles. And yeah, in the Venn diagram, things that squirt things that I don't know. Wait a minute. I'm forgetting what a Venn diagram is. I think I got it backwards. Rob is right though. Like the super soaker 50 is the apex of squirt guns, right? Like it, that just blew away everything. Right. And then anything after that is just trying to do the same thing with better colors or whatever. And I would say, I think the hardest place to teach Venn diagrams would be Germany Because the teacher would be like, okay, Venn diagrams. And they'd be like, well, now we got time. We've got a whole class. But people who laugh at that joke and people who listen to this podcast, it's a Venn diagram. It's just a circle. Yeah. So that's it. That's, I don't know. That's what, that's what I'm excited about. I'm going to wonder how it's rolling, going with Matt. Good. Since we're cruising along, I thought I had was went on vacation to couples last week.

[33:00]A lot of listeners. A couple's retreat. Wow. A couple's retreat. Wife swapped. God damn it. Can't talk. Yeah. Can't talk about the wife swapping. I was told I can't bring it up. Yeah. I do have all my pairs of socks. Got them back. Full circle. But it's really nice to go on vacation with a bunch of listeners and they just, tell you all the shit you got wrong on the podcast and why don't you do this? And why don't you do that? You know, something like that. So Rob, the Rob, We have to play careless whisper in the background. All right. That's the song for the day. This was Josh Reddick's walk-up music for a while. He was playing right for the Oakland A's. Good song. Yeah. This also made the best list, the list of best sax solos, I believe. Yep. I like it. Pretty sick. Sexy. This made my list of best thing to listen in my ear, AirPods when I was at the bathhouse. And you'll never believe what happened to me.

[34:00]Okay. I was dressed like a cop because I was a real cop. Look at those ropes. And this is a weird video. The other songs on that list, Jerry Rafferty, Baker Street, Rick James, Super Freak. Yep. Yes. Bob Seger, old time rock and roll and Tina Turner, the best. Can I just say, I texted you guys and I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, man. I know you hate this, but I texted you guys because I went down a rabbit hole where I just listened to old episodes of Beck Did It Better And it melted my brain how fast everything happened on the show. It literally was like Spencer's gifts to talking about my dad's mirror balls. And like you just, it was, and I texted you guys this. I just want to say it out loud so everybody can hear it. It was like being in a time machine. And you're like, oh, I'm going to go back. You don't need to go back. You're like, I'm going to go back and see myself in the mirror. And you just catch your two parents fucking. And you're like, ugh, not like, yes, I guess that's part of it. That's not what I wanted to see. Like hearing us fumble around with these jokes that became bits.

[35:00]I was like, oh, the bit's better than the joke. The joke's no good. Hey, sorry, man. Go ahead. That's all right. I failed. This was told to me. I failed. They mentioned that one of the best openers that I ever saw was Lil Wayne opened up for Blink 182 about three, four years ago. I think that's cool. That's cool. Wow. So Lil Wayne opened up for Blink. So that was a pretty good thing. I mean, that's the most open somebody's been as the Carter since Chris Carter. That's three. Hey, all he does is catch touchdowns. That's a crazy swimsuit that lady's wearing. Yeah. It's crazy that George Michael has to pretend here. Why are we listening to this song? Was this part of your trip or what? This, yeah, this was, this came up all the time as the, a song. It's a great song. Must've listened to it a few times. We, we talked about Jane's addiction opening up for smashing pumpkins.

[36:00]And I failed to mention that there was a bunch of strippers on the stage in the back. And some of the listeners that we were with were so taken aback by the strippers that they just kind of ruined Jane's addiction. Oh, wow. I just thought it was there's three women in the back there that were just very athletic and what they were doing. So that's all I got. That's all I had. What I want to know though, is so Matt went from our vacation to like one, One day off. And then to the other. So I got home on Monday. I went to work on Tuesday and Wednesday morning at five 30. We were back at 8 AM. We were back at the airport. We had a seven o'clock flight. So then during the combo vacation, did you take any Matt time? Did you say like, I got to just have like, two hours to go do my own thing or whatever. Yeah. Yep. Monday to Friday, right? I wanted to ask though,

[37:00]But like, can I do this? My wife came back from two weeks in the Philippines. First day back. You know, she says to me when I come home, where's the Greek yogurt. I've been, well, did you make my cabbage and chicken? She's making me make that dish with the baby bird and the egg. Now she's like, I'm addicted to it. I can't get it out. Keep the beak. Yeah. Is this just a chicken nugget in a Cadbury egg? This is not what it is. That's actually a very good joke. She said, she just got back from two weeks away. She goes, I did a lot of housework today. And I was like, I said, I've done a lot of housework last two weeks. Except for those five days when I was in Vegas. It felt swell. He was doing housework in Vegas. That door dash doesn't order itself. That felt like Hulk Hogan coming back from getting choked out. Like my hand coming up and everybody's cheering. Everybody's going.

[38:00]Yeah. I did a lot of housework the last two weeks. Everybody's like, yeah. When you do a couple's retreat, like, do you guys go to dinner today? There is a group every night or how many couples are on the retreat? Yeah. So there's four couples total and kind of made it, yes, that we would try to plan at least to do that. I mean, like breakfast was kind of hit and miss. Sometimes it was everybody. Sometimes it was two, sometimes it was three couples, things like that. Lunch was kind of hitting. It was very hit and miss. Cause that's when I would go take my nap or it was just hanging out by the pool. This also Rob is a period of time when you would know exactly when someone had an orgasm. Yeah. Oh gosh. Come out drinking. I mean, Rob brought it up. I mean, these two relate to breakfast. Hey, it's a good nap. I'm so thirsty. Yeah. But I think eight might be so four couples might be kind of some sort of limit, like, in terms of trying to coordinate everything.

[39:00]Cause otherwise you just started to get too many people. Can you even fit eight people at a table for something for dinner? It's kind of tight, getting tight, right? It's getting a lot. No, you can. I mean sometimes it was like girls on one side, guys in the other. And sometimes it was mixed and kind of depended. Now, Matt, was there one person in the group that you were like, kind of like, I just wish we were seven. And I wish that person wasn't here. Absolutely. He's pointing to his wedding ring. And you know what? That person, they probably listened to this podcast. They know who they are. Is it one of the people that was complaining about Rob putting up episodes too late? I forgot. I mean, I forgot it was, there was a lot of people complaining. There was a lot. Yeah. Have you seen, and then I'm sitting next to, then I'm sitting next to Ben from Minneapolis and he's listening. He goes, this is really weird. I go, what? He goes, well, Rob finally put the podcast and I'm sitting here listening to you talk, but I'm, yeah. Meanwhile,

[40:00]He's like, man, did you take Viagra? You have a huge boner. When I just said that to you, ask me about my podcast. And then on the back is a Venn diagram with baritones. And somebody's got a case of the 28th amendment over there. How about now? It was good. Have you seen any of those people other than the one you live with since you got home? No, you're not going out to dinner with him. You just went on a fucking vacation with him. I mean, it could happen. It doesn't matter how good of a friend you are. You're so fucking sick of those people. And you've gossiped about them as much as you possibly can with your spouse. You said, which one of them you think it would be the shittiest to be in a relationship with you've let you and your spouse have opinions on every single person you're with. There is no reason to go out to dinner with those people anymore. God, if you saw them at a restaurant where you went, you wouldn't sit with them. You know, we were talking, it would be a great spot. And we saw three weddings down there on the beach. It would be a great spot. It's like a group of friends had like one more wedding to go to.

[41:00]Everybody just needed just one more. Just, it would be a great spot. Like the last one. You're totally right, man. I'm getting a divorce. That's a great idea. Thank you, Rob. Thank you for sacrificing. Wow. Taking one for the team. Yep. Yeah. Russell, roll and go on. How's it going with you? We're only going, I got a few things tonight that I thought would be fun. The first one is I I'm realizing now when I'm trying to watch a movie or a TV show with the upstairs roommate, the TV show watcher, I'm so picky about what I watched. And so the other night we were trying to find a movie that would be fun. We would both like, and you want to know the movie we landed on. I want to see what you guys think of this. Dumb and dumber. The movie was, I own that on DVD, Matt, if it's in the DVD tournament, I cannot watch it on streaming because I've got it on DVD. DVD. The movie we ended up on. And I sat back in my chair by the record player, watched the whole movie and enjoyed every bit of it. It's a music movie. It is school of rock starring Jack Black. Yeah.

[42:00]Great movie. We watched that one. We watched that one a lot at this house. I watched it and it's so good. Never go wrong. The band is good. Like the idea of the kids coming up with the band name school of rock is perfect. Jack Black is perfect. The music is fun. And so I was wondering, what are your guys' favorite movies? About bands. Almost famous. Yeah, sure. It's a good one. That's his hands down with, isn't it? Kate Hudson. Yeah. I still never came out. Like you've done. I know. I know that one in Boulder. I know. It's like an excuse. John, for me, Diana might call in. Yeah, he probably will. You're not probably text me. I don't know why I haven't. There's no good reason. I just haven't seen it yet. What do you guys think? What else? So almost famous. What other great movies are about bands? I love, a mighty wind and that's a good spinal tap. I'll put both those together. Cause it's the same guys, but there's, but they're fake mockumentary bands. I just get such a kick out of those and they have music. That's fun. Oh,

[43:00]I'm telling you there's the Stonehenge bit in spinal tap is a great song. Get the spinal tap album. It's legit. Good. Russell. There's a song in that movie called big bottoms where they talk about how much they love women with big bottoms and they're all playing a bass. So the whole thing, it's just bulb. Oh, just listen to this first line. Okay. I'm going to move it forward three minutes first or not. No. Oh gosh. The next line, Russell, just to let you know, the next line is the looser, the waistband, the deeper, the quicksand. I mean, that's a song that definitely could have been made. And then they have a song called working on a sex farm. That's even go ahead, Aaron. Sorry. I think my favorite movie about a band is probably drum line. Oh, marching band. Aaron. That movie is awesome. It's so good.

[44:00]It made me want to be a drummer. Honestly, where I could write, I'd be fucking drum battling all the time. I'd be so good. And then I tried drumming and it's like, it's Nick Cannon. They're doing the thing where they're staring each other right in the eyes and doing the drum. I'm flipping the sticks around. Yeah. The other thing I wanted to share rolling going. So, I'm leaning back, Aaron, I'm touching that feather thing to the ground. Yeah. I'm throwing the cane out. It's bouncing back to me. Can you imagine? I got to say this. If I was a woman in college and a drum major was there throwing his cane Around and just coming back, I'd fuck that guy so fast. That is so cool. They throw it. They're leaning. They're touching the head back. I'd be like, this guy and I are having sex. I would have very low standards, Aaron. I have imagined what it would be like if you're a woman in college so many times. Like what if Rob were a woman in college? That would have been fun, right? I look at that haircut. Can you imagine what she'll look like in the 50 years? Oh my God.

[45:00]You kind of wonder if the curtains match the drapes. No, the drapes match the carpet. I think being a woman in college would have been easier for me because I know for a fact that if I got into a woman's bed and they had not washed the sheets the whole semester, I wouldn't have cared. I would have been like, I don't care. This is great. It'd be great. The other thing I was going to bring up to you guys, as you know, I was with you in Vegas a few weeks ago and I, Oh yeah. I've come to the realization a few, we've had a few trips out there where, You know, day two of Vegas, Rob disappears for like three hours. He's got to take a nap. He's not feeling good. I think maybe Matt has even taken a nap. Usually Matt's pretty solid. I've seen a few other buddies take a nap, disappear. I finally hit the point. This is the first year. I couldn't ring the bell. Day three, I did not get out of bed till 5 PM. I couldn't ring the bell. Russell was in such rough shape. Okay. I need to tell everybody.

[46:00]You put a bet on the football game. The football game started at 1130. We're like, what time will Russell be here? You were saying like one 30. I think the latest was like two. I got two 13. I had two 13 as the over. Anything. I had two 13 and after I got it by three hours. Yeah. What were we doing the night before? Russell consumes many of the strongest drinks. I know for a fact they were very strong. And then we got a kick out of being on the dance floor. Yes. Acting like there were women in the hotels above us pointed to them saying, come down here with our hands going like this. So much so that everyone on the dance floor would turn and look to see where we were pointing. It was unbelievable. And one asshole ruined the bet. Very bad. Just ruined the whole bet. Just gave it away. Russell. I have so many photos of 12 AM and we're all, or videos. It's 12 AM. It's 1 AM. We're all holding fresh drinks. Who was like a new drink?

[47:00]Like, Oh, it's 1 AM. Yes. I need another 16 ounce whiskey and Coke or whatever. Whiskey ginger. I made a huge Vegas mistake. I came back at work. They said, how was Vegas? I gave him the line that I always do where I say, well, we're getting older. So earlier to bed like, just so it was fun, but early to bed. And then I, a coworker, I trust a little more. I said, well, I did squat a woman at the crash. And she was like, I went to bed. I missed the whole thing. I was like, Oh, it was a consensual squat. I was like, I cannot talk about Vegas at work. I can't do it. There's no, yeah, no, nothing good can come of that. So I didn't, I don't think I made it down to watch football with you guys until five 30, five 38. It was like the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter of game two. And I was in bed before 9. PM. I was up less than four hours on day three. I'm officially old and cannot ring the bell anymore. Have you guys had a moment like that or not? Sitting at the blackjack table with Russell at eight 30 PM.

[48:00]And Russell looks at me and he goes, we can keep playing if you want. And Matt looks at me and goes, how are you doing? He goes, I'm running out of steam. Oh yeah. But I was up $25. So I was like, yeah, let's be fair the night before. I think most of us left the blackjack table. I don't know. It's somewhere between one and two o'clock. You, I don't know how much longer you stayed up, Russell, but you step, stayed up and kept playing. Matt, I stayed long enough for them to take back everything you and I won. I'll just put it that way. Not all of it. It wasn't all of it, but it was, I got bit by the Vegas bug. So the other, Matt was mentioning when we were out on the dance floor, we were calling out, we were pointing up at the windows acting like there were people watching us. Everyone was looking or whatever. The other favorite part of the night, is we're dancing. There's probably what? Anywhere between like seven and 15 people on the dance floor. And we're half of them. Most of the night is a seven. Yeah. I mean, the band, you guys don't, you don't think this, the band this year was whack.

[49:00]The droids were whack. I didn't realize it until the second night. If you're listening, you are whack. Aaron, why don't you repeat? Like, so you guys saw the droids three nights in a row. I saw them twice. What song did they close with every night? I guess it's, I guess that's on us. Like Russell's pointing out that this band was whack as hell. And we went to see them three nights in a row because it is free and it is live music and the drinks are strong. They closed with rage against the machine, killing in the name every night. And we were there all three nights. The first night. And we were like, this is fucking awesome. We're going fucking crazy. And we're like, fuck you. Don't do it. And everybody's yelling. Yeah. We go the second night and they're like, well, we got a request. So we're going to close the show. And they fucking play this again. And we're like, this is even fucking awesome. This is their thing. We didn't realize how much we missed out last time. And now we've really fully appreciate it. And then we go the third night. And I'll tell you what,

[50:00]It was fucking awesome on the third night too. It was just as fun every night. I think I can see that seven nights a week. And we're just so bad ass. What was upsetting was when they got sad, they got all upset at the crowd because they played old time rock and roll by Bob Seger. And no one cheered. And then they got mad because nobody cheered for that. That's the droids. I requested Kathmandu. I think their whole bit, Right? Rosie, you were trying to get some requests and things like that, right? I gave them some of your actual money and they wouldn't, I think their whole bit every night. If I, if we really figured it out is they have like, let's just say a 20 song catalog. And they're going to play it. They're going to play 16 of those 20 songs the whole night. And they're saying that they need requests. They're all we're taking requests, but they play the same set every night and they always end with the same thing. Man. It's like Greece, same shit,

[51:00]Different day. Yeah. I want to set the scene for anybody who is not there. The three listeners that were not there. Begin. There is a band. This is an open air bar. Yes. Carnival court. It's called carnival's court. It is free. We are the youngest people there by not a little. Okay. We are, we feel young and cool. And that's bad. Given how gray my hair is. And it is all men in sweaters and foot joy hats. We saw a number of foot joy hats where a guy got a hat that said foot joy And it goes, I better wear this out. Dan from a Dan from South St. Paul. His dad was there. And then women who, there was one woman who was there all three nights and every night she would just do, do high kicks. She would walk around and just do high kicks. It was wild costume changes. She did costume changes. And we went back every single night. You're saying two nights in a row, right? Rob, at least two nights in a row,

[52:00]Three nights, crazy fucks, at least three. And then two of those nights, there was that one chick that was just staring at Joe from Woodbury. He was just making undressing him with his eyes. This woman was her eyes. The other thing this place had, it was women who were like what I mean? I don't even know what you're talking about. I don't know what you're talking about. I don't even know what you're talking about. How big you got? Show me what I mean? Like, I show me the biggest. Hey, I don't remember this part at all. No, I don't know what you, I don't know what you're talking about. I don't think there were any women On the dance floor in three nights, Rob. I don't know what you're talking about. There was one woman on the dance floor. Here's the one I remember. Doing the high kicks. At one point we're dancing on day two. I'm getting my air guitar on. I'm killing out of the dance floor.

[53:00]Yeah, all of a sudden six foot five dude From Norway walks up and his wife looks like Dabber from the TV show coach. I want to clarify. He looks like Dabber. The wife is not. And he looks at me and he goes, Hey, you're a good dancer. You're a good dancer. You should dance with my wife. Yeah. And I immediately panic And start pointing at Rob and Joe from Woodbury And say, they're the best dancers here. She should dance with them. Yeah. This guy comes over. Yes. He has short hair. Imagine if Hulk Hogan had a bull cut. No, it's Dabber and Hulk Hogan. This was the guy who played Drago. Dolph Lundgren. This guy looks like Dolph Lundgren. With a Dabber haircut. Yeah. If Dolph Lundgren had been like, Got into some weird stuff. Like Dolph Lundgren is doing a lot of enemas. That's kind of what it looked like to me. And he was like, He was like, you go dance with my wife.

[54:00]And I turn and I see this woman. Now listen, I say this only in the Google little sense. I don't know what this is to say. This is the most respectful way I can say this. Oh no. She had been bimbified. She had the largest chest, The largest lips, The most cat-like appearance, Blonde, skinny waist, huge hips. She was one of the most attractive people I've ever seen in my entire life. Rob's having a moment here. Rob is having a moment. This woman was exactly my type. And Joe, I was. What? Yeah, you said that at the time. I immediately said, Wow, This guy wants me to fuck his wife. This guy 100% wants to watch me fuck his wife. Oh my God. You normally I would call Rob out And say like, I think Rob's full of stories. They were looking for someone to go back To the link with them that night. I mean, it was like, I have watched so many documentaries

[55:00]About this very similar scenario. And I like my kidneys and I want to keep them. And I would love. There's nothing more. I'm telling you right now, If my, listen, God forbid. God forbid. Okay. Something happens. I need that passcode for the podcast. Something terrible happens. I would be in an Uber from the funeral home to Vegas And I would live at Carnival Court. I just made, she was exactly my type. And I have never been so terrified in my life. I was scared shitless. We all were. I totally panicked. I was like, I was just like Russell. I totally panicked. And I said, guys, emergency media. So I get all the guys together. My bros, my best friends. I was doing my own thing. Okay. I said, guys, This guy wants me to fuck his wife And I'm freaking out.

[56:00]It scares me. Immediately, within five minutes of this conversation, All of my bros, except for Aaron, Are talking to him and pointing at me. I may or may not have pointed at the guy who's, And all of a sudden I'd be looking And all of a sudden this wife would like come out. It was like, I was like a gazelle being hunted by lions in long grass. It was crazy. They would pop out and be like, this is my wife. And then when I danced with her, He would make eye contact with me. Oh, it's terrifying. And I was like, this is what it's going to look like Right when he chops off my head with a samurai sword. Remember, tell him. I mean, it was funny. I would have laughed, unfortunately, If that's what happened. And I'll tell you, even knowing that, Knowing there's a chance I'm going to get my head chopped off with a samurai sword, I would still be at Carnival Court. That's how awesome that would have been. You know what the scariest thing About that Dabber guy was? He had like the work boots on.

[57:00]He had like the steel-toed boots on. That was the thing I couldn't get past. Wouldn't you say the scariest thing Is that we recognized him from last year? Oh. He's there every year. And Joe talked to him and found out That he does not, in fact, live in Las Vegas. That somehow we were there at the same time As this guy every year. We're like two college old women, Two college women living in the dorm together With this couple. Our cycles have synced up. Oh my God. Our Las Vegas cycles have synced up. We are there all the time together. I just have to say the whole, we all did that. We did every night, sang that song, came back. Tuesday morning, the best text we got Was from Pete from St. Paul. And it just said, I guess we're back To doing what they told us. 100%. Best text. Pete was my roommate. That was great. Russell Rowling going, I was actually going to talk about the guy Who wanted me to fuck his wife. And somehow you made that year Rowling going. I don't know how that happened. That was an ultimate switcheroo.

[58:00]So I'll talk about afterwards, We went to the crap table. I'm down for the trip. I'm playing video craps where we actually roll a dice. You can't call this the crap table. It's video craps. No, but it's, no, but no, Russell, But it's a table where I rolled the dice. And people are there, You just place your bets on a screen. So it's incredibly slow. You can not lose as much money. And who comes up? Dobber. One of the most attractive women I've ever seen In my life, with a guy who's wearing Like a disco dancing outfit. It's like bright circles. He is so loud. Now, Russell, do you want to guess, Did he have a giant vape? You want to just guess, Is he a giant vape in Vegas? And does a guy like this with a giant vape Come and talk to us? The number one thing I hate in Vegas Is people talking to me. Don't fucking talk to me. I'm not here with you. I'm here with my friends. Don't talk to me. And this woman gets the dice and I turn to Joe. And I say, listen, This woman has never lost anything in her life. This woman's a winner. She gets everything she wants whenever she wants it.

[59:00]We need to bet everything. And we made so much money on this woman. And it was so sad because the first time She threw the dice went over the table And we all apologized to her. She threw the dice over the table. We're like, we're sorry. That was a great role like that. Oh my God, you're doing such a good job rolling. That's actually good luck. I threw the dice over the table a bunch of times. Yeah, we were like, you dumb piece of shit. You shithead. And with her we're like, we're sorry. Can we get you anything? She had a dice roll. This is a classic Vegas story. Roll off the table, hit a wheelchair, Go back under the table. We got under the table and found it. No, fuck that. I would have never been able to watch you guys Just do this stuff. Russell, they handed me- But you were in bed for four hours before that. I was in bed for two hours before that. Russell, they handed me a croupier stick To forget it from under the table. I almost ran. It was almost like that scene in Casino Or in a Ocean's Eleven where they talk about the robberies. It would have been me with the croupier stick Walking out and somebody bashes me in the face With the club.

[1:00:00]I wanted that stick so bad. But she won a ton of money And then it was her dumb shit boyfriend's Time to roll and I immediately cashed out And walked away. It was so satisfying. So satisfying. All right, let's get into the album. Oh, is this a music slide cam? Let's fly to the album soon. Let's get through it. All right, let's go to the album. Listen, we are talking about love. Okay, we are talking about forever changes. A band I had never heard of, But this is really one of those bands That's that Laurel Canyon type band. This is one of the first racially diversified band With this guy, Arthur Lee, Who pretty much is the whole band. This band, if you look at the members On Wikipedia of the band, it's hilarious. They've had like a hundred members. I think everybody did not like working With this Arthur Lee guy because they kept changing. This is like their, what, fifth album? Third album, no, it's the third album And they've already changed band members like four times. It's crazy.

[1:01:00]Did he have some mental health issues maybe? Or am I imagining that? He was in jail for five years for discharging a gun. So I would guess that's not, that could be likely. Lee was a songwriter who heard the birds And wanted to make an album of that new folk rock song And he became a staple on the Los Angeles Like club music scene and lived in this place That was just a mansion. This is what it was like in Los Angeles back then. They had a mansion that they just lived in Because they would pay the taxes. They're like, can somebody please live in this mansion? You just gotta live here and pay the taxes. They're like, we'll do it. He became so big that Jim Morrison Begged him to help him get a record contract. Like Jim Morrison was obsessed with this guy And Three Dog Night talked about how they love him. This is Robert Plants from Led Zeppelin's Favorite album. Favorite album. I can hear that. Ah, I totally hear that. This is kind of like, Some people said it was psychedelic rock But I heard this as genre agnostic on a TikTok I listen to today and I like that

[1:02:00]Because it is kind of, It's all over the place genre wise. It's, I gotta say there are some songs in here That I just loved and I think I could see this Like in a college dorm room. I kind of like this album. Let's see. It really grew on me. Like five times over the last three days. Cause you hear sounds, You're like, well that sounds like the who or that sounds Like fucking Herman's Hermit. So that sounds like it could be Zeppelin. Like it really Alon again. Alon again was written by band member, Brian McLean. Lee renamed it Alon again or To make it sound more mysterious And then remixed it to make his vocals higher Than McLean's. I think this is kind of what Lee was like Not great to work with. Off to his own thing. But listen to this opening. It's like, what do you got? Like more Tony in there. Yep. Flamenco guitar, right? Yeah. I mean the greatest flamenco guitar song ever.

[1:03:00]Without question. Mike Tess's punch out, it's Don Flamenco. We gotta pull up the Don Flamenco song, Rob. All right, let's do it. My kids are super into punch out right now. It's such a great game. Are they like into the old school version Or is there like a new version? There you can get it on the Nintendo switch, But it's just not Mike Tyson's punch out anymore. It's just punch out. Mike Tyson's not part of it. That is Flamenco guitar. Oh, that's from Carmen. Drace Museum from Carmen. Keep it down Flamenco as you dodge the first uppercut And then you go left, right, left, right, left, Right, left and you go to the face Over and you do it until you knock him out. If you get a star, you pause, boom, put him down. Put him down, Rob. This is Russell's Viagra. This is what I'm talking about, Mike Tyson's punch out. I could easily play Mike Tyson's punch out For four days without going down. Aaron, what is that song from?

[1:04:00]It's from Carmen. I don't know where in the world she is, Aaron. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Hit it, Rockabella. Do, up, Carmen. Do, up, do, up, do, up, do, up, do, up, do, up. Our house is not a motel. This song I loved. It sounds like dust and dirt and wind. I mean, sorry, Rob, I wasn't listening to your opening. Who comes first? The doors are these guys. Is this a doors rip off or what is this? I think doors is. You said this is 67, so it's like contemporaneous, right? Or is that the right word? Doors first out in 67. But then one of them was later, so around the same time. It's at Morrison Hotel's 1970. But this is so much more, I don't know, it's like ethereal. I don't, it's, I don't know. On one hand, I feel awesome listening to this. On the other hand, I feel like I'm 86 years old Listening to this.

[1:05:00]I do recall when this remaster came out, It was a big deal in indie rock circles Or maybe just on Rolling Stone magazine. And it was, I had never heard it. And it was all of a sudden, it was these interviews With ever Kalexico or Beck or whoever Oh, this album changed my life. And I was like, I've never heard it. Yeah, I saw a lot of that when people loved it. Like Iggy Pop was like, oh, this is great. And I was like, what? This, I have it on Flak here And it sounds so good, Erin. Like the high quality of version of this, It sounds like it was just recorded great. This is only Lee again. He's the only member of the band on the song. There's no other members of the band. This is just the wrecking crew Doing the rest of the instruments. Wrecking crew featuring Hal Blaine, We talked about a few weeks ago, He was the drummer that had all those number one hits In a row, right? You know what motherfucker I'd like to meet? Who's that? Hal Leonard. That guy. Hal Leonard, the choral publishing guy? I don't know what he did. What he did in life where everything in my life From like sixth grade to tenth grade was Hal Leonard.

[1:06:00]And we shouldn't talk about him on the choral list. I swear to God, if you told me Hal Leonard was married to Mavis Beacon, That would make sense to me. The Daily Planet. That's the who, right? Like the sense, just the audio who song. Matt. You've been off like quiet over there. What do you think of this album? This just is so old and so like classic late 60s. I don't know. It sounds like we listened to Cream Who's no longer on the- Out. The list they're out. Get them out. And I couldn't have been more happy That album was out. Like I just, I can't listen to this weird psychedelic rock From the late 60s anymore. You know, like I'll take the Beatles, They're rolling stones. I'll take the door. I'll take anybody that's not like this weird group Of just three people who are all stoned out Putting a bunch of stuff together.

[1:07:00]I don't know. It just, it all's lumping into one big ball for me And I just can't listen to it anymore. So. Well, you're gonna listen to it For about six more songs. Yeah, five more tracks. Right. I know. The intro of this part, Old Man is the best part. I love the intro. It kind of builds here. Oh, I like the bass. Oof. Sounds good. That's it. Can you just give a head a little bit? Can we hear some more of the vocals on that one? So this is the one. I'm gonna, this is weird. This is what drew me into the album. Oh really? What? And here's why. Work with me here for a second. This goes out to Joe from Woodbury And Neil from Lakeville. Oh. And I heard this. I thought of the Tiny Tim voice. And if anyone who has watched The newest season of Fargo, There is an episode where

[1:08:00]There's like a crazy action scene That features Tiny Tim singing I Got You Babe. Rob, if you could pull up I Got You Babe by Tiny Tim. That's fun. And this has been added to my Spotify list. It's such a crazy, strange song, But I can't get enough of it. And this is what made me think of it. So check this Tiny Tim song out. Oh my God, we don't. Have you guys heard this shit? Russell, are you Aaron? Jaw on the floor over here. Just, what happened? He's doing a duet with himself. Yes. It's so good. What's going on? Did you guys switch bodies or something? What's going on? Oh my God, it's so good. When I heard that song by this fan love, I thought of the moment in this Fargo episode Where they're playing this string like a soup. It's like a home alone action scene Where the ladies got all the booby traps and everything. This song is a killer. It needs to be added to Matt's 100 list. It's so fun.

[1:09:00]Big shake of the head for Matt. You guys know our Tiny Tim is buried? Des Moines, right? Minneapolis, right? Oh, Minneapolis, okay. 36th and Humboldt, man. Use Gravefinder.com, our latest sponsor. Gravefinder.com, when you gotta find that grave. Aaron, is that where you used to bring your dates? Or did you go for runs through a cemetery? Where did you have some sort of weird cemetery deal? What, yeah, there's one across from my house. I can see a cemetery from my house Since we're in Mac Draysbury. We talked about this. Yeah, should we take Viagra And go hang out in the cemetery? I know, let's come on out. The red telephone, a little ARPS accord there. Where someone picked up the phone. What would you do? What would you call? I'd call Questlove. Oh, call Sick, but I could link it. And I'd sit on hold for hours. But I'll tell you what, I don't wanna call anybody.

[1:10:00]I don't wanna, and guess what, I'll just text them, it's what I do anyway. You know what, I got a call from someone today And I picked it up. Ooh. Oh, that's sick. It was from Matt. Matt called me. I called you Russ. You know who didn't pick up when I called? Probably Aaron and Rob, assholes. Wait, but Matt didn't call me. No. Matt, are we gonna re-enact or call or not? Sure. Is this one of those recording nights Where it's like, I've got nine things in my calendar And I'm out with my dinner aficionado And so I'm not getting home until like 10, 30, 11 Or is this one of those nights Where you're gonna be home And you're ready to go at like nine? I thought we canceled this podcast. I'm so sick of being at the podcast. I thought we were done with this When they changed the list. I'm with you.

[1:11:00]Sounds good. I'm great. I'm doing good. I see you later. Meanwhile, I was at a fucking play. People laugh at me. I was gonna we were setting text messages. What time are we gonna start? What time are we gonna start? We can go tomorrow. Do you want to go tomorrow? And then Rob is like texting pictures of himself And his play in like the same group And we're texting. When are we gonna go? What's going on? And I just want to see like, what the fuck, Rob? Like just respond to our text message once. Nope. He's got to keep sending pictures of himself. Look, a bit of play. Look at these suspenders. I was gonna be nice to Rob. I was trying to tell him I could go tomorrow instead Because he said earlier to bed tonight would be better, But now it's 105 AM. The main thing is I have to, I have to go get up tomorrow and go to my kids swimming. It's at the worst pool in the state. It's tiny, you're upstairs, so it's hot. You can't see anything. There's no scoreboard. You have no idea what's going on. And Jenny goes, They're only taking the first 200 people.

[1:12:00]Should we go early? And I said, oh my God. No. If the hell, if some high school swim meat kicks people out Because there's too many fans. I can tell you, if my kid says, Oh, did you see my race? I can just say yes. Oh, yeah, you swam. I mean. Can you believe how blue the water in that pool was today? Oh my gosh. What kind of chlorine do they put in that pool, Rob? She's like me though, because she's like, Where is my swimsuit? She's like, I can't find my swimsuit. And you look in her bag and it's just full of snacks. She's already gotten all the snacks for the next day ready. Like those are precisely put in. And she's like, I don't know where my stuff is. All right. Listen, maybe the people would be the times Or between Clark and Hildale. This album's got the strangest titles, But I kind of appreciate it. I love this one. Yeah, this one's fun. You know, this whole album kind of reminded me Of my grandmother, honestly. Like, this is the kind of music she would have On the record of the cabin, record player.

[1:13:00]And we'd all be like, hell yeah. When's, when's Herbalbert and tea, the tea you want to brass? Are they on the list? I'm at, no, I don't, I'm saying when's the year? When do they make it big? Whipped cream and other delights, by the way, Russell, Which is a bit you did a lot on episode four. Talking about whipped cream and other delights. Oh, 65. Yeah, I think there's influence here with Herbalbert And the tea you want to brass. A hundred percent. You hear in those horns? Guys, live and let live. The most disgusting opening to a song ever. Well, the snot has kicked the snot. That's it. Get out of here with this. Dude, what is going on? No, I gotta say, this is where I'm drawing it again. This is like, this drink, it's so strange And it's so different. You gotta listen, yeah. I turned that song off every time he said snot. It's the most... Oh, no, I like it. Oh, I like it. No, I like it. My notes. Is this the greatest strange song ever? Seriously, this is fantastic.

[1:14:00]That song is so good. I agree, man. I like the storytelling. It's vivid. You feel like you're there with the guy in the pistol. I think there's a bird involved. I like the sounds games he created, Similar to Bowie to me, Where you've got the... Somehow you got the acoustic guitar. It's like really cranked up in there With the electric bass and the drums And somehow it works. And I was wondering what it would sound like live. Probably sound something like this. The placenta goes to the floor. I would say my second favorite live album Is The Dolphin's Lament. All right, The Good Humor Man. He sees everything like this. Russell, do you know what The Good Humor Man is? What? Do you know what The Good Humor Man is? No. What is it? It is not a milkman, But it's very similar. It is an ice cream man. And I started to think to myself,

[1:15:00]I wonder if there's other songs about ice cream men. Oh! And that brings me to tonight's countdown. My top songs about ice cream men. I've never told you how the ice cream man In the neighborhood, Back in the Fernando neighborhood, Napoli got arrested for DUI when we were kids. Driving the ice cream truck? Yeah. Ice cream man gets pulled over by the cops, Open container when we're kids. He's got like the brown bag. Oh my God. Oof, unfortunate. One of the neighbor dads told me- What a perfect job. Then he told me, don't eat that pink, Like a pink panther ice cream thing. I ate that shit. Now, guys, Russell. Yes. Can you imagine getting drunk And driving an ice cream van? That's the perfect job. You put that song on it, just let it rip. That would be awesome. We'd be like, God, I'm fucking hungry. Well, better have a push up. Like, whatever. It's like, well, I'm going to have the SpongeBob one

[1:16:00]With the fucked up eyes. Or I'm going to have the Ninja Turtle. Can you imagine, every time we go to an ice cream truck, My kids were young, they'd be like, I want the SpongeBob. I was like, no, you don't. It's got black, it's terrible. It's the worst one. You're an idiot. There's ones with chocolate and fucking nuts. There's a Choco Taco right there. You don't want a Choco Taco. It's delicious and you're getting the SpongeBob. Gross. Now, you might think, is your number one ice cream man song? Is this an ice cream song? No, Ice Cream Man, Russell. Oh, oh, does this play in this song? Pressure? Pressure by... No, it's different. It goes, ha, it's different. This is not the kind of ice cream man I'm talking about, Russell. Okay, this is an ice cream man, But it's not the kind I'm talking about. Okay, also, Coke will be where. This, I'm talking about ice cream man Who delivered ice cream, the first song. No, no, man, I want the screw ball,

[1:17:00]That one, the screw ball over there With the gum in the bottom. Gross, ugh. Ice Cream Man by Tom Waits. I know this song. Is this our closing time? A jam. But in a lot of these songs, I'm pretty sure the Ice Cream Man Is an illusion to sex. Hmm. This is young Tom Waits. Ice Cream Man. Now, next up, we have a song called Mr. Ice Cream Man by somebody I care about. I know who this is. This is Master P. Oh, nice. Zoot, Ryan. A whole bag of bottle of beer. Master P? What is this? Oh, that has got sport bounce. All right, that's going to rattle the trunk. Ooh. I've got my alpines on blast. Is that correct? Yep. Hey, thanks for coming to my choir concert. I'll give you a ride home. Check out the bumps in my car.

[1:18:00]You guys know where Master P's kids went to high school? Where's that? Minnehaha Academy. Minnehaha Academy, yep. Master P was living in Minnesota for a while. That's right. This is a jam. This might knock my Tiny Tim song off my 100 list. Please join us. I was going to edit that out, Russell. This dude bears it. I got to protect you. I've got to protect you. Now, next up, of course, you knew I was going to pick this one. Van Halen. David Lee Roth. That's the same as the Tom Waits one, isn't it? No, it's not. Really? I don't think so. Yeah, it is. No, it's similar. This is from... This is a cover of John Brim. This is a cover of John Brim. Listen to this. Let me play a Tom Waits, because I...

[1:19:00]Probably this. Tony, I don't think it's the same. Sue, Brian. Brian. No, it's not. Come on. That's the same deal. Wait, you've got a CV says I'm your ice cream man. It's not me when I'm passing by or not. You stopped it before the chorus. No, it doesn't. No, it doesn't matter. We'll never know. We'll never know. You guys ever have a snow cone man where he gets out and he does the snow cones and he's Got like all the different colors of syrup? Russell's making the syrup pumping motion. Let's do it. Pumping motion? You guys didn't have that in Rochester? Which is also the same as the M&M everybody from the 313. 313, fuck free world. So did the snowman, the snow cone man have a car? It was like a truck, just like a ice cream truck, but he would get out and on The side of it, there would be the pumps of different flavors that pump the syrup on the

[1:20:00]Snow cone. No, that can't exist. On the car? Must not have gone south of Cannon Falls, didn't make it down towards you. If I drove by that car, I would lean out the window and pumps them in my mouth like Oh. Hey, you get out of here. I heard the greatest ice cream man song ever. It's by Tyga. Just listen to these lyrics. This is the best ice cream man song. Hungry hippos. Just really laying it out there. That is the number one. He's Tyga sitting there like I just cannot come up with a rhyme for fuck me. Chunky monkey, that's a good flavor. No, it's not.

[1:21:00]What? I mean, so it's banana ice cream, Aaron. It's terrible. Chunky banana ice cream is delicious. Yeah. Man, Straus ice cream, I used to make a banana with chocolate chip they don't Anymore. Best with Rob's ice cream, Aaron, you've learned, you've learned nothing over the Last three years. Do you? Do you? I do love ice cream. Does this ice cream taste like stupid fake bananas or does it taste like real Bananas from Runtz, which to me are the real banana taste, the banana Runtz. Everything else is fake. God, I love guys. I found myself at like 42 eating Runtz and I was like, I can't be doing this Because the limes were so good. Oh, no, they're so good. Oh. You have not had Runtz in the last 10 years. There's no way. A hundred percent I have. No. A hundred percent. I love Runtz. I love bananas. I once bought a bag of just the bananas. They make those? No. This is disgusting.

[1:22:00]Russell just walked out of the room. Chozing some right now. The green Runtz, orange, red. Yeah. No, lime. They taste like the fruit. Lime tastes like lime. Orange tastes like orange. Banana tastes like fucking bananas. The real banana. Snowsberries taste like snowsberries. Those are the hearts there. The pink ones. You're thinking of the hearts. Those are the snowsberries. All right. So let's get back to the album. Oh, there's still more of this album. Here we go. We gots. We'll speed through. This is bummer in the summer. This is the ram.com song. What? Oh, yeah. All those rhymes are from ram.com. It feels like we're talking Dylan next week. This feels a little Dylan-y to me. I kind of like doing Dylan here. I like the guitar hook underneath this, too. He's doing Dylan here. Aaron, some people use rhyme.com because they don't have a lot of time to write Their songs. Okay.

[1:23:00]You set the scene. It's a useful one. Crush. You get nothing in return. You get nothing in return. You get nothing in return. You get nothing in return. You get nothing in return. You get nothing in return. Matt is so mad. He's done. All right. Let's get into the rating system. The band that enter the rating system podcast. Now, you've got to wonder how can we like an album for a band that we wouldn't walk Out our front door to see? If love was playing outside, I wouldn't open a window, okay? This album is kind of fun. I kind of think it's a little bit of a good time. All right, Matt, you're going to be the anchor on this, okay? Because who knows what you're going to say? Okay, we don't know. Russell, what do you think? Rolling well toned. Does this belong at 180? Okay. Rolling boned would be if you did a 180 and took that Viagra, walked around, okay? You think it should be higher, which of course, at this point, would be a lower

[1:24:00]Number on the list. Okay? It got boned. It shouldn't be this far back. Or is it a rolling well toned? This is perfect at 180 and it will never change and the list will never, ever Change. Okay? Causing us to lose days of our lives. That cream episode, you might think, oh, is this our first psychedelic episode? No, it was cream. But guess what? I had to delete it. It's not on the list anymore. Okay, more on that next episode. Okay? It's just like that Bobby Jackson Final Four appearance gone, lost at the same time. Hey, Aaron, why don't you shut the fuck up when you're going to talk about That? Seriously, Jane Gangle, why don't you bring her up while we're at it? Oh, hey. Thanks, Aaron. We've kept quiet about this whole Iowa football gambling shit for weeks now. Aaron might as well have said you can't even beat King Hippo to Russ. Russell, what do you think?

[1:25:00]Rolling well toned, rolling boned or rolling ground? I think that year that Jamal Tinsley was the two-seated lost on the second round Was like an unfortunate event. But you know what? Here's what I'm going to say about this album. I think it's too high on the list. I don't think it belongs in the top 200. But there's some weird stuff in here that I thought was fun to listen to. I listened to this multiple times over the last week, just had it on the background. And these strange songs would come up and I kind of was entranced by them. I think it's way too high on the list. I don't think it should be here, but I did enjoy it. And I might actually come back and listen to a few of those crazy songs again. So I'm going to say it's rolling grown too high. But just because it's too high doesn't mean it's not fun and enjoyable. So rolling grown. Did anybody else's roommate, when you were playing this in the living room, Did they come out and they're like, what the fuck are you doing? The first time, yes. The first time. And then the second or third time she was like, hey, what are you listening to? It's not bad.

[1:26:00]This is Bummer in the summer. This is good humor man. He sees everything like this. And to me, this is the best ice cream man song I've heard so far in my life. Hey, I can put those sea shanties back on if you want to. Yeah. About double D shanties. Oh. Pump them up max. I want something where I got to go to Mexico to get it. You know what I mean? Like it's not legal in the U.S. No. That's what was at this place. I don't remember any of this. Do you guys are not? Is Rob making this up? Yes. And then that woman who was like that walked off with the foot joy hat guy. It was crazy. What? The foot joy hat guy got the busty woman. It was crazy to me. Oh, I don't remember. He had come right from the driving range. He was wearing soft spikes. I'm almost positive. But was that a ball marker in your pocket? Or are you just happy to see me? Aaron, what do you think? Rolling well toned, rolling boner, rolling grown. That got mad. That got mad.

[1:27:00]Man, I like that one. Russell took the words right out of my mouth. And don't think it was when he was kissing me. What? 100% agree with every word rolling grown. But I like it. I will listen again. Matt, rolling well toned, rolling boned or rolling. I wish I had taken a little bit more time to do just a little bit of research Because I think this entire album is here because of the wrecking crew. I hear the wrecking crew throughout the whole damn thing. And I think that it should be a wrecking crew album. And if it was a wrecking crew album somehow and it was up here, I think it absolutely deserves to be here. But for love to be here I just don't get it. It's like school of rock, Matt. They're part of the band, man. They're in the band. They're in it, but they don't get any credit because they're just session, You know, just session music things like that. So they had to bring them reading Wikipedia. They had to bring them in. What does it say?

[1:28:00]They were plagued by internal conflict and lack of preparation For Lee's intricate arrangements, but in some album savers, The wrecking crew, Billy Strange, Don Randy, Hal Blaine, Carol Kay, You know, so they brought in all these people to save the, Save the crew and figure it out. And so I don't know. I think if people really dug into the album, they'd put this way down the list. So sure it, it's pretty early since the 60s where 67, is that what it's from? All that good stuff. But I just don't get, I'm going to say rolling groaned. Matt, God damn you're smart, man. You are so smart. That is a crazy great take. I love it. Unfortunately, it's wrong. Wrong as hell. No way. Shit. This gets a rolling unknown. Rolling unknown. I didn't know what this album was. I never heard of it. But it's fun. This is part of why this podcast is so fun. Okay. This is because I put up my kid's mattress against my wife's door to Make sure she wouldn't hear me tonight. This is one of the first times where I have not ever heard a single

[1:29:00]Song off the album. And I'm never going to again, but I enjoyed this week of listening To it. I thought it was a good time. So there we go. Next up. We have my, we have Bob Dylan when he went through what I call My wife phase. What's that phase? He decided to ditch what all the people liked and he went Electric. When you want to hear about the greatest albums of all time. Lots of batteries. Lots of batteries. For those night goals. If you want to hear for guys who chat and then they get off Track. I've got the. Me can't have a battery charger right by your bed, right? Everybody knows that did it better. You guys, I was actually following the Congressional website. It turns out the 29th amendment has passed and it States. The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the push to No self be true. It's time to say goodbye.

[1:30:00]Hey, Luther, fuck my wife, please. Yeah.
