A Tribe Called Quest: Midnight Marauders (1993)

Beck Did It Better Podcast 1993
About this episodeHey everyone,  This week we hit our second A Tribe Called Quest Album and we pretty much become the best podcast about Midnight Marauders. We are talking USA up all night, Jock Jams, and the time Rob went to Military School.  Aaron talks about Rucking and Rob talks about talking about getting horny. Everyone thinks its normal that Aaron orders messed up stuff at the ball game and we go over the insane music choices our nephews are making. Then we go over Midnight Marauders and talk about how this album is a little more grown up than Low End Theory but still fun. Then Rob talks about talking

[0:00]It's funny. Actually, my video looks better than all of yours. It does, actually. Yours is crystal clear, yeah. You look younger all of a sudden. I mean, it does look like you've kidnapped somebody and you're sending a manifesto in. Four score and 87 years ago. I have your daughter. Oh, wow. Get me five million dollars. I will call you at 8 a.m. Don't try to do anything stupid. Do not call the police. This is not Russ. Fuck. I want that money invested in a REIT. I have a few that I think are actually quite good. I don't even know what a REIT is. You're over my head. You're in with these guys. Real Estate Investment Trust. They have to give out 90% of their earnings. They can only keep 10%. I do. I do, Aaron, subscribe to Reader's Digest,

[1:00]So I get all the REITs. Well, laughter is the best medicine. Yeah. I stopped subscribing to Reader's Digest after one of the humor uniforms. They just had people in a pyramid in Fallujah. And I was like, well, that's not really funny. It's not funny to me. All the Guantanamo jokes just weren't hitting. Yeah. Jesus Christ. Can I tell you, actually, the number one kid reading strategy I have that I tell the kids at school? Yeah. I tell them, if it doesn't have a ghost and sex in it, I'm not reading it. Okay? It needs to have a ghost. People need to be having sex. You should be reading what you love. What if you're having sex with a ghost? Even better. Thank God. Hello, Paging Patrick Swayze. Yeah. You know how many times? I mean, is there any? I was thinking Bill Murray. I was thinking more Bill Murray from the original Ghostbusters. Oh, I thought it was Scrooge. No, no, no, no. You are thinking, I hate to correct you, man. And you know I hate to do this. But are you thinking when Dan Aykroyd gets blown by a ghost? Dan Aykroyd. And then his eyes cross.

[2:00]Yep. Dan Aykroyd. There you go. That's weird because I was thinking if we ever did a list of the top fictional things I'd like to have sex with, Slimer would be. Oh, no. Come on. Top two and not two. You see me eat those hot dogs? You see me eat those hot dogs here? His name is Slimer. He's basically a sex toy flying around. If you had Slimer or you zoomed in on that thing that was in my bedside table for a while, you would not know the difference. Slimer would have less lint on it. All right, we're off to a strong start. What if you blacklight that thing? Then you really have it. Oh, in 2020, four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums decided by Rolling Stone magazine. This resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music, excoriated the order, and led us to making this podcast. We are far from experts. We promise to do almost no research. All opinions are our own unless you disagree. Guys, I'm sorry. I had an energy drink here. Look at this thing. It has an old sign on it. Oh, my God. It says bang. Listen how it's good? The banger.

[3:00]This is how you know it's good right here. Age 18 plus only. Okay? You could buy, to buy this, you have to be 18. You have to be able to serve in the military to drink this much caffeine. So we all have a choice right now. We can do one three-hour episode, or we can do two-hour episodes. We can choose. Or we can do two three-and-a-half-hour episodes. This is the fork in the road, guys. Let's go right now. You are going to be staring at the screen, bleary-eyed, four hours from now, one way or another. We can have two in the bank or one in the bank. It's everybody's choice. When I drink one of these drinks, I'm like the Highlander. I'm like, I can't feel it. What if that's a one-movie Russell Seed is like Highlander 2? He's like, oh, yeah, I love that shit. That's it. I love that one. Wasn't the Highlander the show that was on USA after Silk Stockings back in the day? God, Silk Stockings. Wow. And before Renegade? They had the fucking shows.

[4:00]USA Up All Night. I'll tell you what, man. What was that lady's name? What was the lady of the USA Up All Night lady? Rhonda Shear? I don't remember her name. Up All Night lady. Well, that was the thing, right? That was a classic jack-off trap. Google USA Up All Night. Classic. Because it would go in commercial. You'd go into Up All Night and be like, okay, I'm ready to jack off. And then it'd be like Gilbert Gottfried. You'd be like, okay, this is going to be tough. This is Dow. The challenge level has gone up. And it's the same with like you're watching Xena and you're like, yeah. And then all of a sudden, Hercules with Kevin Sorbo comes on. Years later, you're watching Aladdin and you get a boner. You don't know why. Come on. What? Up All Night. Who was the Up All Night girl? Rhonda Shear. Russell nailed it. Wow. That is incredible. Now, I do like some of Kevin Sorbo's latest work on Twitter. I think he does a good job. To be fair, I was not necessarily in the Rob he called it the jerk-off hour or whatever. It was a U.S. That was a U.S.A. That was after Monday Night Raw.

[5:00]Monday Night Raw used to be on U.S.A. So it was kind of like an after wrestling. Now we're here for the wrestling content. All right. Listen, Russell, you don't need to make excuses. Okay. Someday you're going to get around to the episode 350. You're going to be honest and you're going to talk about how much you jerked it. That's fine. That's part of what the show is. Okay. People who don't like that. Guess what? They peeled out a long time ago. All right. By the way. In 2027, Russell talks about his jack-off stories. Everyone can't wait. God, I can't wait. I legit don't think I have enough booze in this cabin to get me through whatever was going on right now. All opinions are our own unless you disagree. We sit back and enjoy. Beck did it better. We are all the way up to album two. Oh, one. Oh, season three. This is season three now? Yeah, we made it to season three. That's crazy. We did it. Wow. If it's as bad as season three of The Bear, we might need to shut this shit down. Oh. That's bad. We have been doing a lot of montages, Russell. We've been doing a lot of montage shit.

[6:00]It's a lot of meandering French film type stuff. Yeah. Get a little artsy, aren't we? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Everybody loves that stuff. We are doing Midnight Marauders with a tribe called Quest. It's their follow-up to the low-end theory. Now, guys, this does better than the album I released in the late 80s when I was actually watching Monday Night Raw late at night, and it was called Midnight Sergeant Slaughter. Instead of Midnight Marauder, it was called Midnight Sergeant Slaughter. Yeah. Technically, Slaughter was probably around before Monday Night Raw. We're talking primetime wrestling. We're going back with Gorilla Batsun and Bobby. Saturday night. Wow. I would say of all my wrestlers who committed war crimes, he has to be one of my favorites. This is for sure. General Adnan. Yeah. Colonel Mustafa. Otherwise. He's known as the Iron Sheik. Did Abdul of the Butcher commit any war crimes?

[7:00]I bet he did. If carving people up with forks and stuff doesn't count, I don't know what does. I saw Pol Pot put a guy in a stunner like you wouldn't believe. What the fuck? That's crazy. All right. There's no way any of our listeners know who Pol Pot is. No chance. Listen, I've got bad news for you guys. I have. Decline. I was sitting today. I was. I had time. I could have done it. I was thinking about a parody song and I just didn't do it. And I'm not kidding. It's not a joke. It brought me happiness to not do it. I am done with the parody song for a little bit. I think this and then I've got we've got Bjork next week. I'm like, I cannot do a parody song. I think it's pronounced Bjork. I'm not fucking getting into this right now, Aaron. We talked about it before the show and I don't have time right now. I'm so dry. Stop it. Don't say that. Oh, it doesn't matter to me. Okay, Bjork. We have if you're if you're watching, you can be Bjork enough. That's what you're going to say.

[8:00]No, not next week. Next week. I'm fully above board. But this is OK. OK, this week, Bjork and off is OK. Listen, so there's no parody song. It's it. And you know what? When I realized I wasn't going to do it, it brought me happiness. So I was like, well, if I I don't know why nobody cares about the parody songs, but we're not going to do it. God, I like it. But the question is, what do I do now? Do I just go right to the introduction or do I introduce the new bit that we're going to do? What are we going to be doing for the next couple of episodes? As you know, I'm at the cabin. That means I have my dad's computer. That means I have the old soundboard. Some of the sounds aren't there anymore. Some of the sounds I have never seen. For example, ask a real question. Yes. Why don't you just bring your computer on the plane? Oh, my laptop that I don't own. I don't own a laptop. I do my recording on a big ass computer. No, am I school? Yeah, I do. I do. I have two screens. I've got my big iMac. I'm not bringing that shit. My school won't give me a free computer for another year. So I have to wait just a little bit. And then that school is going to give me a free computer.

[9:00]But look at this, Russell. I've got slaps. They're back. I've got guys, when's the last time we did this bit? The long harmonica bit. It's back. Better than ever. All right. That was never a good one, but keep going. Keep going. I mean, that's a fun whistle. I think the fun whistle episode was their worst episode. Wasn't it? Was it? One of the Bob, early Bob Dylan ones. It was. I was 61. Yeah, pretty bad. I was 61. Might be our worst. But you know, Russell, the night is young. One of these two that we're going to do tonight might be bad. Might be worse. Here's the deal, Russell. I am going to play this sound clip at one point in every episode. Okay. And you're never going to know when it is. Okay. So for example, it might do it with something like, oh, Sergeant Slaughter. He committed war crimes. It's going to be when you don't expect it. And we need a little boost. Energy up.

[10:00]Energy up. Okay. I'm with that. So listen. That's with it. Jock Jams is not just a illness I had when I was in high school for a number of reasons. It's a way of life. I had the worst case of Jock Jam the doctor had ever seen. Arid likes that one. I've got four guys here who understand how wonderful it is. J.D. Vance, the new vice president. Candidate. Now, listen, nothing much has happened in the news since we last met each other. Nothing going on. Okay. But J.D. Vance, who is the vice presidential candidate right now, there was a rumor that was put on Twitter that in his book, Hillbilly Elegy, that he had sex for up to 45 minutes with a couch. All the latex and a couch. And now you now as somebody who has for a number of times said, if a couch you were was able to get you off, you would pay, I don't know, triple for that couch, right? If a normal couch is like 600 bucks. But one that gets you off is 1800. You've got to pay the $1800 couch. It's you'd be dumb not to.

[11:00]Has the purple light on and everything. Yeah. The idea. If you, Rob, I got a question for you. Yes. If you have a $10,000 bed, do you own a $600 couch? No, our couch actually sucks or something. Now, you would never guess this, man. But for some reason, there's a big divot in the middle of it. When you sit on it, you sit way low. Okay. Nobody can guess why that is. Nobody knows. But we need it. We need to update our couch. Okay. Among other things. There's a huge divot. There's some stains on it. So anyway, this J.D. Vance guy. Now, it turns out that this was false. That this was just something that somebody had made up on Twitter. He had never. Perception is reality, man. Doesn't matter. It's out there now. The reason I'm bringing this up now is that, do you know what the guy's name was who posted this? His username on Twitter was Rick Rude's Cavs. I was like, man, what a perfect intersection of this podcast. Somebody's name, Rick Rude's Cavs, had a bit about a well-known politician having sex with a couch. I'm telling you, my dad has been talking to me about the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, over and over. Do you know how hard it is for me not to talk to my dad about how the Speaker of the House currently has a deal with his son

[12:00]That if either one of them jerks off, they call each other and talk about it? Why are you not? Yeah, like, I don't understand why you have not brought this up with your dad yet. Because I'm afraid he might be like, hey. Because every time the phone rings then and it's your dad, you're like, dad, I don't want to know. I don't want to know, dad. I'm not answering. Hey, up all night, what guys was on on USA? Dad is dead. Gilbert Godfrey, I know for a fact. I watched it. Anyway, I've got four guys here who want to talk about midnight marauders. And they're definitely not regretting this doing it in the summer. I've got Matt in North Dakota. Matt, how are you doing? Good, Rob. When's the last time you heard of a funky diabetic? Oh, wow. And I got to say, Matt does have a happy birthday banner up behind him, which is filling me with joy. We're not sure. It says happy, but we don't know what the rest of it says. We just see the happy part. Happy. There it is. Birth. Happy birth. Yeah. Canal rejuvenation. Wow. Oh, my God.

[13:00]That's crazy. I've got I've got Russell, who's up north somewhere. Parts unknown. I've got Russell calling from his cabin in the woods. Russell, how are you doing tonight? Rob, if I ever went solo on this podcast, my favorite main host would be me. Yes. I can tell you, if you ever went solo, I would be looking for Mario Van Peebles, star of the movie. Yes. Oh, boy. Out of all the Star Wars stuff, that's the way you win. I'll tell you what, of all, if I if Russell went solo on this podcast, I would see him free climbing. OK. I'm sorry. Wait, hang on. Are you guys talking about different movies? Was Mario Van Peebles in a different solo movie than Donald Glover? Yeah, he climbed that right. No, it can't be Tom. You haven't seen this, Aaron. You're an outdoorsman. You haven't seen. No, you're talking about a Star Wars movie. And Rob was not talking about the Star Wars movie. Oh, I forgot about the Star Wars. No, I was talking about Solo with Mario Van Peebles, which is where he is.

[14:00]Kind of a sniper type guy. See, here's Solo right here. Oh, yeah. 1996. Yeah. It's just to let you guys know where my movie tastes are right now. I recently watched a movie with Billy Blanks in it. So that is, I'll tell you, the quality of movies that I've been up to. And I've got Aaron out in California. Aaron's the only guy who's at home right now. Yeah. And Aaron was telling us before he got on, he was talking to his wife and said, listen, am I the only one you've dated? And she goes, well, yeah, the other, the others were at least a seven. Fair. Yeah, fair. They probably are. How are you doing? Robbie, let me tell you about my only vice. It has to do with lots of loving and it ain't nothing nice. Let's talk about Midnight Marauders. Oh, I love it. Okay, let's get into our voicemail. Now, our voicemail this week is mostly a cautionary tale. He's on the phone. Leave me alone. About drunk dialing. Oh, hey, guys.

[15:00]First off, happy Father's Day. Okay, so, okay, let me just say real quick. This is a little old. He's not. He's not like that. This is what has been sitting in the. This one's been sitting in the cooker for a little bit. And you'll find out why as we go on. This comes from my buddies who seem to be annoyed that when they send voicemails, Rob doesn't play them. And when I asked Rob about it, he's like, no. You've replayed everything. It's like, no. Okay, well, okay. Well, just listen, I love all the callers. I think they're wonderful. Steve, but not that Steve, also known as the complimentary movie guy that sends pictures of his feet. Definitely not that Steve. Yeah, there we go. The new backline number says it's calling to Vermont. Not what that's about, but cheers to that. Did you say? No. Not what sure that's about. We're already. Yeah. I'm not sure what he means by the new backline number.

[16:00]Never. It's never changed. And I 100% did send it to Vermont. As you know, I used to live in Vermont for a bit. So I thought it'd be fun to have an 802 number. But that's what's going on there. Nothing sinister. Fucking door just open in here. There's nobody else in the cab. I swear to God. I just heard that energy drink just hit hard. Yeah. What's that in the window behind you? Don't even fucking say that. Don't say that. I'm serious. Which of the four of us do you think is the biggest baby when it comes to scary stuff? Like it's me. I am a big time. It's me. Who do you think would deal with it the best? Hello? Okay. Well, somebody's in here. They didn't respond to that. Just turn around and look quick. No, I'm not going to fucking turn. No, I'm not going to do that. Not that shoulder. The other shoulder. Stop it. Stop saying that. That's not funny. In that mirror. Don't do that.

[17:00]That's not funny. Hey, I might just go get a piece of candy, man. And maybe don't say his name again. I know. Did you say candy, man? No, man. Or candy, man. I was going to refill my cocktail. Get a bloody berry while I'm at it too. What do you guys want to drink? Pop it. Can you give me one of those? Give me one of those drinks. Yeah. Give me one of those. Give me one of those red rum. Red rum drinks. Red rum. I drove down in my mom's car. Red rum. Because I didn't want to walk. It's like 200 yards to the dark. And I was like, I'm not doing that. I got in my mom's. I'm 44 years old. Remember when you used to record in your mom's car? Oh, right. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That was great. Whoever the intruder is for this horrible podcast is like, fuck it. I can't do it. I just walked out. I want to turn right back around. You should probably just turn the volume on so the intruder can hear us talking too. Otherwise, he's going to be like, I can't do it. I can't do it. If they just hear you talking, they're going to be like, what the hell? I walk out. There's a guy in a hockey mask that stabbed himself.

[18:00]I was like, oh. They just got to the album first, right? Yeah. I grab his phone, go to podcast, download back to the better. Yes. It sounds like a couple downloads for us. At 51 minutes, I stabbed myself in the chest because I hated your guys' podcast. Yeah. That is Bloody Mary. Did you guys ever do the Bloody Mary stuff growing up? No, I don't like some of your stuff. I'm out. Oh, I was at a summer. Well, I got, so I got to see my seventh grade year and my mom sent me to military camp for three weeks, right? She sent me to Shattuck St. Mary's for like three weeks. How good it did. You and Marlon Brando. Yeah. And I tried to explain. What are you talking about? I have lots of discipline. Turned out great. The only thing that worked for you is your mustache doesn't grow past like the crook of your mouth. That's like the only thing you learned at military school. The mustache is going to be hard cut off at that part of the mouth. Got a hard part in the mustache.

[19:00]Now, it is a military school technically, okay? But I have to say it was not really a military school because one of the things, and this kind of got me, this kind of set me down a path. I think my dad realized what was going on because what they would let me do is they would let me charge food to just some account, right? So I could get food whenever I wanted, but I got charged to some account. We got done and my dad was like, what the fuck are you doing? Remember, I'll never forget. He came into my dorm room that I had and God seventh grade. Can you imagine living with me in seventh grade? What that would have been like? It's just, oh my God. It's just dozens of empty, very fine pants all over my roommate. He's like a pile. He's just cleaning his rifle over and over. I had a, we were opening my drawers. You get my clothes out and be like, oh, my shirts are here. My underwear, none of the laundry is done. That doesn't shock you. Of course. I don't remember doing laundry in college, but you open the bottom drawer. There was just half a pizza. In the box in my drawer of my clothes. And he was like, what is this? And I was like, I don't know.

[20:00]Didn't finish it. It's a drawer. It's perfectly pizza shaped. I mean, it just, it's like it should go in there. That was one of the many times. That was actually one of about three times. I had my dad has taken a credit card away from me once because I ordered too many appetizers and he gets some hotel on a credit card. We also need to point out military school is the same school that I think Mighty Ducks 2 is based on. Am I right on that? I think you're, yeah, it was quite, it was crazy because the guys, I went to this camp and here I am like three babies, sorry, the seventh grade, like the seventh grade, little sweetie didn't do well in English seventh grade year. And I went there and there were guys like showing me how to make a bong of an apple. I was like, I should not be here at all. This is bad. I just didn't pay attention during bail. What the fuck? Record scratch. You're probably wondering how I got here. Oh, and I also got pneumonia. All right, here we go. Let's get back to the voicemail. Had a couple of cocktails tonight.

[21:00]No, not sure what I really wanted to say other than, again, happy father's day to, this is terrible. Rob, Aaron and Matt. I'm sure soon to be rough. Oh, rough on that buddy. Oh, stop spending so much time with, these degenerates and start talking to your roommate a little bit more. Yeah. You know what I mean? This voicemail was from two months ago, Rob. This is embarrassing. I got, nothing else. Unfortunately, it still sucks. Yeah. All right. Well, cheers. Vermont. Maybe this is why we had to wait. This is so good. I love them gold. Thank you so much for calling. Now, guys, I want to say one thing, and that is happy father's day for me from the bottom of my heart.

[22:00]Okay. A great holiday, of course, where we get no gifts whatsoever and we get to do all the cooking. My rant on father's day is well known. I think it's one of the most bullshit holidays of all time. You know, Rob, we could do this. Like it's the father's day and it could just be delayed a few weeks. Like all our other episodes recently. Right? Yeah, exactly. It's the father's day episode right after the Shaday episode. Happy father's day. If you could get, if you could get a gift for father's day. Okay. What would you want somebody to get you? Cause somebody, we're going to somebody is going to listen to this and have to get us a gift for father's day. What would you want to get? You know, this is not what I would want. I'm sorry, man. This is not what I would want, but I heard one of my work colleagues was getting this and I thought it was a great idea. She was getting her husband a propane pizza oven. And I thought that sounded like a really cool gift. Definitely not. The pleasure principle then. No. Okay. Hates propane. Yep. Outdoor grills are just outdoor ovens. But I feel like that's gotta be a dad gift, right?

[23:00]Like some sort of outdoor cooking mechanism that's beyond the standard grill or whatever. Right. I've, I've, I've, I've narrowed down my gift receiving and purchases to two items. I should have saved this as a rolling going, but I've, I've got down to battery and or yeah, battery operated, vacuums. I'm just. I'm just obsessed with them now. Like I've got one, I got one for father's day. It's a father's day thing because again, my kids, God bless them, but they just, they're, they're dirty, right? I mean, they just spill shit everywhere. And the best thing I can do is just take this nice vacuum. I don't have to plug in. They just pick it up, go around, get it. It's the greatest thing in the world. The other thing that I've become obsessed with is anything that has to do with a ring camera. I am just outfitting this. This cabin and then even my house now with ring cameras to just be able to survey surveillance, everything.

[24:00]And I just love it. I can't get enough. I look at what the weather is at the cabin every day when I'm back at home and up here, I look at what's going on. Did my sprinkler go off this morning at five 30 to water the lawn while I'm, while I'm back. Oh my God. I've turned in, I've turned into an old man. Massive dead boner. Do you have any good critter sightings on your ring cameras? Do you need raccoons or anything like that? Any raccoons? A few of them, but a couple of deer on the ice in the winter, things like that, but nothing exotic that you wouldn't, that you would think like, what the hell is going on around here? So what about the camera you've titled the Chuck Berry? Oh, the toilet ring camera. You know, when we switched phones and you saw that you weren't supposed to tell anybody, you're supposed to keep that quiet. What's what's the weather here? I see. It's a full moon. Oh, it's a full moon. And I want to remind you, Chuck Berry went through and got caught editing those videos, which is the funniest part. Again, he was editing them and putting them into a compilation so he could jack off to

[25:00]Them later, which I think is so, it's like, it shows that you really care though. You know what I mean? Cause it's like, it's like, I, I always just go in and just, I'm like, okay what? It's like, it's like a trip into the woods. I'm just going to run. I'm going to have a little walkabout. We're just going to see what's on. We're going to see what I like. He was like, okay, here's the thing. I know I'm going to want to do this in a couple of days. Got to get prepared. All right. Zero episodes. It's our last Chuck Berry reference. Reset the counter. Go ahead, man. And I got to show you guys my vacuum. It's got, it's got like 15 different attachments and I don't have it right now, but it can be the long wand one. So you can use it. It's got the brush that goes, you could take that, take the brush part off and just have the long one. So like I'm getting my up in my eaves and stuff like that on the porch where you got to reach and then get down to the short one. So if you need to get something like in the couch, you got that. It's got another brush. It's got the little, the really pointed little, like needle almost. So if you really got to get in like your car. So there's crazy vacuums these days.

[26:00]Can I tell you something, man? Jenny will not allow us to have a vacuum in our apartment. Vacuums have been banned from my apartment. Are you kidding? I have found a Dyson vacuum in the, no, it was on the side of the sidewalk. I miss my Dyson so much. We bought a meal and I hate it. Vacuum dog. Now this vacuum was necessary. Next to garbage. So it may have been garbage, but I picked it up, brought it in. It worked. It was a working vacuum. And Jenny made me re bring it down to the garbage because she does not want to vacuum. She's like, we have all hardwood floors. We don't need a vacuum. I strongly disagree. It's very, and you know what she uses on, you'll never guess what she uses on the bench press in our apartment. Chalk. So now our apartment is like dusty and there's chalk everywhere. No vacuum to be found. Okay. I can tell you eight, 90% of vacuums that are on the side of the road, you're either got a clog somewhere that somebody is too lazy to, to fix, or they just have a belt that slip. The belt doesn't even broke.

[27:00]You just got to put the belt back on. Wow. I think I was made to be a vacuum salesman. It's the worst when that belt slips. Isn't it bad? You just got to take a couple. It's got to take a couple screws off, put it back on. You're good to go. Russell. That's why I've started doing the double belt method in case one belt goes, I've got a backup one. Okay. Got to get that nut. Aaron, what do you want to get for a gift for father's day? Speaking of, which man I've never gotten anything, but great father's day gifts. You guys mentioned Russell mentioned the gas powered outdoor cooking apparatus. I got a Weber gas grill that was assembled by the good folks at Cole hardware and delivered to my house assembled. So like that happened four years ago, got the gas grill. I, well, I was just like, Matt, I thought about saving this for my rolling going. I was where I, so this year I got a, a book. I love getting books. So a collection of Kate Atkinson, short stories. And then the other thing that Anna got for me, which is marvelous was I was, I hesitate to even do this,

[28:00]But I was curious about rucking. Right. I know. Like I, you guys understand where I get, where I go on YouTube, what happens, right? Yeah. Was that with an R? Yeah. What was that? Say that. Rucking. You know, guys at the gym for some reason got way into rucking and they invited Jenny and I to go on a ruck. I had no idea. Sunday morning. And Aaron, I both Jenny and I were like, we will never fucking do this in a million years. Explain to these guys what a ruck is. Rucking is at its simplest form, just hiking or walking with a weighted backpack. That's it. Just walking with weights. And it's a I think it originates with the military. So of course it's big on certain parts of YouTube where I end up because I also work out with kettlebells and it's it's supposed to be the cure all to everything is the greatest, the best workout ever, whether it is or not, I don't know. But Anna and I walk a lot and I was like, I think I might start rucking. So I started with just like throwing some weights in my backpack,

[29:00]Which is not great. So Anna bought me a very nice Titan fitness weighted vest. But I mean, it and it has these things they call ingots. So you can fill it up to it can go from zero pounds up to 30 pounds and you can adjust the weight and whatever. I mean, so it's, it's marvelous. Aaron, give me a second. This is like the most annoying thing. Can you imagine? The fucks out there that are like what I need to do is I need to be a little fatter for this hike to really get by. Yeah. This is like the most, I hate all these people. These people that are like, I need to put a little more weight in here to get a better workout. Oh no. Everyone can go jump off a ledge for all I care. And you'll go faster because you got a bunch of ingots on you. This is stolen valor. This is me showing up to the airport. I'm in a wheelchair and my white Navy whites. This is exactly the same. You're trying to take stuff that bad guys have. Guess what?

[30:00]Hiking is already hard for us. It really sucks. It hurts our feet. That's ours. You don't get that. That's our culture. I might have to change my shirt halfway through that run. Yeah. And you're sitting here like, Oh, let's do another 30 pounds of plates in there. Russ, imagine you're hiking with Aaron. Okay. When you're done, he takes off a weighted vest. How mad would you be? I'm so bad. I want to make a bleeped out joke, but I'm not going to even make it. And I'll tell you guys later. My God. So when she bought it for me, she was like, you cannot wear this in public. So I tried going out because she was like, it looks sort of military ask. It looks like an armored vest. It looks like you might be trying to blur yourself up, whatever. And you've got that bandage on your ear. So everybody immediately thinks that I tried going out, putting a t-shirt over the vest. Because I was like, and you know, maybe it won't be obvious. That was not good.

[31:00]I got to go. You put a t-shirt over your weighted vest? I tried because I was like, yeah, it was like, don't wear this in public. You look like some kid going out for Halloween, like the Hulk or something. Oh my God. So then I was like, nope, I just have to own it. I want to try this. If I'm going to do it, I got to go out with the vest on. And of course, like we run into people we know left and right out in the neighborhood. And they're like, oh. So this probably would be ranked behind the people who do like are at the gym and doing dips with like the 45s underneath. This is under that. This is somewhere between that and the people doing the chin-ups with the 45s on them, right? I can't do that. This would be as insulting if your wife came home with a sex toy that was so big. You know what I mean? Like if your wife came home and it was a sex toy and it was really big, you'd be like, well, wait a minute. Like that almost seemed pointed. You know what I mean? Like that's too much for me. Like I get it. I can't vibrate. I can't spin around or whatever. Aaron wearing a weighted vest. I wonder what, do you think they make a weighted vest in our size, Russell?

[32:00]Or are they just like, yeah, these guys don't need a weighted vest. I mean, Jesus Christ. What am I trying to be Yokozuna from WrestleMania? I don't even know what I'm talking about here. Yeah. My life is a weighted vest. You guys asked. Oh, I wear a weighted vest. I have no heart issues. The doctor said my blood pressure is normal. Oh, great, Aaron. Rob, good for you. If you lived out in California. And like, let's say every Wednesday, you and Aaron, instead of playing basketball, you did a hike and he never wore the vest around you. And then like one time you saw him out by accident, he was wearing the vest. What would you think? Oh, that would, I would be. First of all, I would think he's trying to copy me. He's trying to see what my life is like. Oh, in this vest, I can barely see my penis. Oh, yeah. Please. Makes me sick. Russell, what gift are you? What gift are you favorite getting right now? Like, what's a gift that you would get right now? You'd be psyched. I don't have any kids that I know about that are going to give me gifts.

[33:00]So I'm not talking about that. I'm going to tell you right now, Russell, that's the ultimate gift. After what I've been dealing with this summer. Whoa. By the way, my kid is coming back from Australia on Saturday. And this is how I know she's my kid. First of all, I told you what she's been texting me, right? She's my kids in Australia. Three weeks. She's been studying abroad. I tried to tell her we. They call them Sheila's there, but. Thank you, Aaron. Here's the thing. Okay. She is that all she's been texting me is pictures of various Oreo types that they do not have in the United States. All she's texting me is like New York cheesecake, double stuff Oreos. I'm like, damn, the world is crazy. Like Australia is awesome. And now today she said, Dad, can you put more money on my card? I need to buy some more snacks for the plane ride home. And I was like, hell yeah, I will send you more money for that. She's going to get some Australian Tim Tams and bring them back for me. So I will tell you what that's like. I think that's, that's what I that's what do I want for a gift?

[34:00]Nobody asked me. I think it's just nerds. You know what I mean? Cause nerds are not something you can eat. Like if you buy nerds at the store and you eat them in your car, sit down in the parking lot, your life's fucked. You know what I mean? Like you see Aaron walking by with a weighted vest and I'm, I'm hammering a box of nerds. But nerds makes the little clusters now where that's nerds. So now inside and gummy on the inside, those are good. You do not have to explain to me that the nerds make clusters. My Wagovi, I take my Wagovi shot every Tuesday. So like by Monday rolls around, I'm kind of like, Oh, I'm kind of hungry. Actually. I bought some nerds clusters the other day. I was like, they are delicious. I get why people do drugs. When I take, when I eat nerds clusters, I'm like, I would sell all my stuff for this. I would like to be on the street asking for money. This is great. And with that very positive thought, let's get into our. Was that the voicemail where you told us to prepare for a voicemail about drunk dialing? You know it, but we changed our minds. We're getting into rolling going.

[35:00]Why Russell? You haven't thought about drunk dialing? No, I didn't prepare anything for this. I'm more of a drunk texter. I think you guys will find when I'm texting, like it's usually like after 8 PM. My time. Yeah. Just like texting a bunch of stuff. Just like, just getting the thoughts out. Yeah. Just putting it into the ether. I don't even know. I don't even care. Rolling going here or, or like Aaron, after like two 30 in the afternoon on a Wednesday. Yeah. What was up with that? Aaron texted us the other day. He's like, I have more beers. Baseball game. It was like baseball needs to be longer. And then he's like, yeah, I had a bunch of drinks and I took a work call at the end. It was a disaster. I was like, not good. That is so baller. I also noticed Aaron goes to Oakland A's games, which are like probably a third sold out. And he sits like the farthest goddamn seat you could possibly sit. You were sitting in the shade there, weren't you? Matt knows we were in the shade. It was hot. Yeah. So that's my rolling gun.

[36:00]I went, okay, I'm going to put telephone on this. Yeah. Hello. Is Aaron there? I need to talk to him about some, PTO that I need to take. Yeah. It literally fucking happened. It absolutely happened. No, that's what happened. Total disaster. It's such a bad idea. It was exactly that. By the way, this video that I picked is fucked. It's just a guy in his living room playing baseball music on his Oregon. Bookmark that one. Now, wait a minute. There is a new one. He's got one that says new ballpark Oregon music. So I'm also going to click on this video. This is a new one. And he's back. He's in a different room. He's got a nicer Oregon. Yeah. So we're only going, I went to the A's game yesterday.

[37:00]It was my first and potentially my last ever A's game. First game this season, maybe my last ever. And I don't know. It was a, so I don't know. You guys tell me what should you do? Is it, it was a 1237 start, right? So it starts in the middle of the day. Yeah. The two guys I was going with were bailing from work early. So like I had a call at 9am. I had another one at 10am. I did some work. Like, I'm not going to take a whole day off to go to this game right now. And, but my intention was to go to the game and then just like fuck off and work the rest of the day. So I get there a couple of beers in the parking lot, a couple of beers in the game. That's correct. We sat in the shade. So that was nice. And then there was a call that was rescheduled from 10am to 3pm. And it was just like people who report to me. I shouldn't even tell you this. I might have to ask you to edit this out. It was like just people on my team. So I was like, well, I feel like I should join because like one of these guys doesn't hear very well. So like he needs some help, like on this call.

[38:00]And like, I kind of, maybe I'll try to make sure it goes smooth. Like I'll find a quiet spot in the stadium. Cause it's like, there's nothing going on. It's the A's. There's nobody there. And I think I'm a better boss when I've been drinking. You know what I mean? Like I actually boss better when I've had a couple of drinks. You pay better attention, right? Cause you have to pay. So you're paying better attention. I mean, guys. I I, to be honest, I drink less these days than some points in my life, but yeah, I'll get on this podcast and drink a bunch and like talk to you guys and think I'm doing okay. And I don't listen to the results. So I don't know how bad it is. And you know, Rob's like, when Rob was talking about drunk dialing, correct. I don't drunk dial ever. I don't think I've ever drunk dialed in my entire life, but drunk texting I do. So I don't know what I was thinking. I was like, yeah, I can get on this call. Maybe say a couple of words and just leave it. And the call started and somebody was like, Aaron, do you want to kick us off? And I fucking froze and like said a couple of words. And then they were like, Aaron, your audio is kind of breaking up. And I was like, immediately just get on the chat and be like, yep. Sorry. Audio issues.

[39:00]It was not a good idea. So learn my lesson. That was not the right choice. He's lost eight to one. Who cares? I mean, I'd prefer they lose. I will say I intended to get some chicken tenders. I was really thinking about chicken strips. And then I got, I went to the chicken. I mean that. The food options at the Coliseum right now are just, it's bleak, man. Like there's just not a lot going on, but it turned out that the stand with the chicken tenders also serves fish and chips. And I decided to take a risk on the fish and chips. And I'm going to tell you something. These were not the worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. This was not I really, I kind of enjoyed my fish and chips at the Coliseum yesterday. So it couldn't have been that bad. Like it was a good day. Say that sentence again. You just said, I really enjoyed. I enjoyed the fish and chips. Fish and chips at the Coliseum. That's crazy. That's a crazy fucking sentence to say. That's an insane sentence. We talked two weeks ago about Long John Silver's and how nobody,

[40:00]How it doesn't exist. We're going to the ball. America to get one. Nobody, what are you doing? Getting fish and chips is, was it like. No, I got it. I saw the fish sitting back there and I was like, it looks good. It was like a big ass fillet. I was like, let's go for it. Okay. How big was the fillet? That's like a perfect ballpark food. As long as my arms are deep fried. What are we talking about? You just drop it in a fryer, pull it out. Yeah. It's coming from the freezer on the truck to the freezer at the stadium. They pull it out and throw it in the fryer. I mean, it's fine. It's not like a sushi roll or something. They're putting it in a deep fryer. Russell. Russell is correct. I appreciate that. I understand fried foods are the game. Great. We love it. Russell, you getting fish and chips at the baseball game? I would have probably gone chicken fingers. I usually feel like chicken fingers are the best bang for your buck at a baseball game. I agree. That's where I was going. I agree. And I make, I called an audible and I don't regret it. I do regret getting on that phone call, but I think I smoothed it over today. But if next week we're talking and I don't have a job, then you guys don't know why. But that's it. That's rolling going with me. How's our rolling going with Matt? Good.

[41:00]I feel like we covered most of my. I know. We had a real. Any sort of rolling going. So quick t-shirt update. I am up in North Dakota and Sarah was at the Walmart today, went into town and saw a t-shirt. She go send me a text and said, here, there's yours for your t-shirt list. And it said, orgasm donor. So instead of organ donor said orgasm donor. That was pretty good. We were selling that at Walmart. No, a guy was wearing, he walked by a guy, orgasm donor. It'd be great if you went up to a man. You're like, yeah, all right. Sign me up. It's on my license. Let's go. Where are we doing this? Oh, you think this is the first time I've gotten busy in this Walmart bathroom? I don't think so. I think you guys know that I, used to be a baseball coach of some sort in my former life and played baseball, love baseball, all that good stuff. I've been coaching my youngest is, what is he? Nine. He's a his little league team this year.

[42:00]So it's first year of pitching. I'd like you guys to guess me, former Legion coach, coached college for seven, eight, nine years, whatever it is. Can you guess what my league record was this year for little league? I'm going to say, I'm going to say you went, seven 50, you were in three fourths. I'm going to say Matt has no wins. And the reason I say this is because I think most coaches are parents. Like if you're a coach and you're like really into baseball, if you're like a seven 50 winning percentage, you would never even think to bring it up, Rob. It's just like, that's who I am. I'm a winner all the time. The people who bring this up are the people who are used to being good at things and aren't used to losing. And this is why Matt's bringing it up. I'm going to say. They have not won a game all year. I'm going to lean Russell's direction, but I'm going to say it's because Matt knows that the game is about more than wins and losses. So he doesn't care.

[43:00]He's about teaching the children. He's about learning the game, but I do think they believe the children are our future. He believes they are our future, but I'm going to say Matt won one game. So one and 12. Russell's this very smart guy, but we did go, we went like one. I stopped counting, but essentially we were like one, eight, 15 and one in the years, one game about game three and tied about gaming and then just went on a horrific losing streak. Just absolutely the only saving grace. I just, I questioned my, my life choices now wasn't what I went to all these camps and to all these clinics. I'd go to the ABCA convention every year and I'd listened to all base stealing and hitting and all the latest stuff and go, I just, I questioned all my life choices. No, I just, I'm a failure. I can't do it. I don't know. But. To Aaron's point, the game is more, and I will, the only thing I can hang my hat on is that the two other, there's two teams are about like seven 50 and then there was two teams that were really bad.

[44:00]We were the worst, but the two teams that were like seven 50 they just, they took the rules of like where a kid could play. So a kid can't play the same position more than twice. And then if you have kids have to be in the infield for at least two innings and then in the outfield for four. And they would just. Take that to the nine. So the best player would play first base pitcher and third base. Right. And then they would just rotate in. So our team, we always started, we started at number one in the year in the batting order. We had 11 kids and the batting order just started at one and it was continuous the entire year. So went to 11, started one again, start up at six. The next game of number five was the last things like that. And every kid and every lineup, everybody played the number of positions equally. Like it might've been like a second base, first base thing. But at least they played in the infield. So it is more than. Mad respect for being able to keep track of that because I tried to keep in track for our team and it's a fucking nightmare. And then the kids are going like, can I play this one? I'm like, I can't remember where you played last inning. So I've got, I've got an Excel spree that tells me how many times somebody is in the

[45:00]Outfield and it checks off at the bottom so I make every inning and it checks off at the bottom. If like I put a pitcher in or second base, then I know, Oh, I'm missing a left field in fourth inning. So it sounds very admirable. And I appreciate it. It's like a kid who was never one of the best kids on my team or anything. I think this is very admirable. I would also say it sounds like a recipe for losing. Yeah, absolutely. But I would say, man, the key I found to coaching little league baseball is you have to have a kid who's growing a mustache. Okay. I would say the number of kids you've got growing a mustache, that's going to directly go with how many wins you have. That is very true. When we had a lot of younger kids. So, yeah, very true. Yeah. Congrats. The season's over. You need some kid from the Dominican. It was like 26. And you're like, Oh, this kid's 14. He's five. This kid's 10. He just made it. Just made the cutoff for the birthday.

[46:00]Hey, are you 14? C. That's good. Russell, rolling going. How's it going with you? Rolling going. Rob mentioned that I was up at the cabin. We're doing our family trip here. We go up north there. Same place every year. And one of the cool things that my brother-in-law has gotten recently is kind of like a portable little karaoke machine. So, it's got the speaker. It's got the microphone. The only thing it doesn't have is you don't have like the lyrics or anything. So, it's not quite karaoke, but it's kind of the speaker. It's got all that. So, we were out on a pontoon the other day and all my nieces and nephews, we started doing karaoke. So, we're singing. I rocked my go-to song, which is Ghostbusters. Of course, everyone loves to hear Ghostbusters for karaoke. But I wanted to share with you guys some of the songs that my nieces and nephews sang. And some of them were just like out of this world. Out of this world. They made me laugh. It's crazy. Matt, your kids are a little older than my niece. My niece and nephew ranges about six to nine. Four of them between six and nine. So, they're kind of at the age where they're starting to like know song lyrics

[47:00]And they'll pull these songs and I don't even know. But I was going to share a few of the songs with you guys if that works. Rob, I don't know if you want to sign them up or not. Let's do it. The first one, this was one of my nephews. Hang on, is this a list? Is this a list? Oh, my God. This is definitely a list. Okay, if you were a list, you were Rob and you put the list on here. Is this the list? All I want to do is make love to you. No, that's not it. That's not it at all. Okay. Oh what? Russell's list is in the Russell list category. Of course, here we go. Sorry. All right, Russell. I am going to pull up each one. So, give me a little time to do that. But I have to say, Russell, I'm also at a cabin with young kids and we've been doing like music on the boat karaoke. And the stuff they pick, it melts my brain every time. It's just the same word over and over to a techno beat. I was like, damn, I missed my calling. I should be making these. We'll start with that one. So, the first one that was the same word over and over to the techno beat.

[48:00]I don't know if you'll be able to find this, Rob, but it's the Gummy Bear song. You guys know this one? Oh, that's exactly the one I was thinking of. That is what my three-year-old nephew listens to over and over. I'm a gummy bear. It is so good. It's so catchy. I'm assuming that's what it is. This is it. Yeah. I'm familiar with this kind of stuff. Yeah. Oh, God. This is, yeah, this is summer carpool to camp shit. Yeah. Somehow we've not gotten into this one yet. But so this is, my nieces do with this one. Everyone on the boat is waving their hands. It's a straight tap on the pontoon. Yeah, they go crazy for this song. Guys, this song, you want to know how many views? First of all, this song. This song is 16 years old. 3.4 million views. That's crazy. That's a lot of views. I asked her if she'd, asked her if she'd, if she'd seen the hot sauce on beat one.

[49:00]She didn't know that one. So I'm probably. The Venn diagram is, she's not great karaoke. Next song on the list that one of my nephews rocked. I believe it's Imagine Dragons. I think the song is Bones. Oh, yeah. The kids love the Imagine Dragons. And this was the one where my nephew is legit. He, he clearly knows all the words and is doing it, but he kind of does it in his own volume. But he didn't impress him. I'll just say it that way. Oh, yeah. Cause it's all in the lyrics. Now, Russell, are you turning into an adult during this time and saying, Hey, imagine dragons. I wanted to, but I didn't. Yeah. Okay. Imagine the dragon is pontoon across this lake. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So when my nephew would rock, is this entertaining? He would do, he would get really into it. And he would, it was real. Yeah.

[50:00]My same nephew who is very good. This was the one where everyone got concerned and we're like, how does he know this song? The song is jelly roll. Save me. Do you guys know this one? Yeah. It's kind of a dark song. Yeah. It's like, it's almost like a sad song. Right. What's the deal with jelly roll? With like an eight or nine year old singing it, it's almost too much to listen to. Oh boy. It's a bit much. Russell, I got bad news for you. Your nephew has a girl at school who he will not talk to. This is exactly what I would listen to in seventh grade. I'd come home and be like, why won't this girl talk to me? I've never tried to talk to her, but she will not talk to me. I better leave a three page note in her locker. That's going to go well. You idiot, Rob. This was the one where my nephew was singing it and he was really good at it when he was drinking and smoking. Yeah. And we all looked at each other and was like, what is happening? How does he know this?

[51:00]He clearly doesn't know like the beating behind all of it, but it was too intense. That was the one I had to run by you guys. Can I back you up with that? Cause you know what? My, my 10 year old nephew what he picked for a song on the boat? It was this one. This one. One opportunity. What? I said the Eminem one. He goes, yeah. I was like, Oh, huh? Like, you should know this. It was crazy. And then guess what? We played it. We all got fucking hyped on the boat. We were like, yeah. I mean, this song will get you hype, right? It was so good. And this is the 8 Mile song, right? This is at least. I think it's clean, isn't it? Mostly. Yeah. There's a clean version I played. Next song on the list. Wait. I don't know. I don't know what it is. I don't know. I don't know what it is.

[52:00]Tell you when this is a common one in the old karaoke club, and it's also is Like, I'm plastic. You could bend me over and the lyrics are on screen real big At karaoke club. And I'm like, okay, I guess we got a part of the reason this Came up is the bimbo girl. Yeah. Watch the Barbie movie with grandma, my mom for The first time by these, but my mom was my grandma wasn't around. My niece told Her mom that it's my sister in me. She goes, we watched the drama and there Was a part of two that was kind of inappropriate. But grandma didn't say Anything. And so my sister, her mom said, well, grandma probably didn't say Anything because you didn't say anything. So like there was like an Understanding. So later in the day, I asked grandma, I said, grandma, I heard You watch the Barbie movie. She goes, Oh, it was really long. It does like All the older person, too long, kind of funny, whatever. And I Go, I heard there were some inappropriate parts by Tom goes, I

[53:00]Didn't say anything. I wasn't going to say anything unless she said Something about it. The un-spoken You guys inappropriate when you're watching movies with your kids where you Just you ignore those parts. What do you do? Oh, well, yeah, you have to kind of look because you know What it's like to watch a sex scene with your parents, you just like you Want to crawl into a hole and die. And you're just like, okay, we we're all Going to ignore it. But Russell, I will say this, my dad is in full Psychomode at the movies. He is now old enough where he is in full Psychomode. We saw Barbie in the theater. He wore pink fingerless gloves. We all wore pink. You know, we got we did the whole thing. Barbie's Giving the big speech in the middle of the movie about like women's stuff And like this really impassioned speech. And my dad leans over to my Kid, loud enough for everybody in the theater, hear me goes, I don't Get it. And I was like, you cannot say that in the middle of Barbie. That's exactly the opposite of the point. So my kid had to

[54:00]Watch it with her friend and then she was like, oh, that bar that Movie was good. I was like, yeah, with grandpa not leading it and Ruining it. Sorry, Russell, go ahead. Last time on the list, this Was my six year old niece. She rocked this one. It was so good. The song was Apple Bottom Jeans. Oh, wow, with the first, I Think Flo Rida and Pitbull, I think are going to go down as two Greatest entertainers of the 2000s. And I don't think they get Enough credit for these are bangers. Is this the one Russell? Yeah, my six year old niece was rocking this one. This is so Good. Russell, I got to add one more song. My nephew pulled up. I asked him what he wanted to listen to it. You know what he Did? He broke out something I've been wanting to bring up On the podcast for a long time. And it was a little bit Of crazy frog. He's like, I want to hear We did this one this week and then Camp Carpool. I was like

[55:00]Zoe and Cole wanted this one this week and they don't want to Hear the original. They want to hear a crazy frog. Yeah, it's Like crazy frog is back. And then you try to explain to them The world of ringtones. How important this was in the world Of ringtones in like 2005. Nobody understands the world of Ringtones anymore. Like there were ads on TV for ringtones. Do you remember that? Yeah. You could buy phone ringtones Like your phone ringtone. If you had a cool one, people are Like, damn. Now, if your phone goes off, people think you are The devil. Russell, there's nothing like the cabin to bring Out what little kids are listening to. That was an excellent List, Russell. Nice job. Rolling you on robbery. You're Listening to my Russell. I'll tell you what my Friends Suzanne visited Minnesota, stressed out, I got To show her Minnesota. What am I going to do? Okay. Well, The first thing I do is I actually bring her up to eat With Matt, his wife, Russ and his roommates. Whoa. And that Was it. And me. I forgot about me. And on the way there,

[56:00]Aaron, she asked one of the most interesting questions I Thought you could possibly ask. And it went great. She Thought everybody was great. She thought everybody was Wonderful. She said to me, who's going to pay for this? Do you think I was the payment going to go down? And I was like, damn, that is such a good question. Aaron, What would you think you're going out to you're going Out to eat? You're my date. We're going out with Matt And Russell. Bill comes. What do you think is going to Happen with the payments? Either Russell is just going to go for it or Matt is going To very diplomatically just say like, here's what I think Everybody owes and it's going to be not a big deal. I thought that once somebody was going to try to get up And pay for it behind her backs, that was the move I Thought was going to happen. Okay. What did happen, of Course, is that we split it three ways the easiest, you Know, the best thing, the best way to do it. And it Was a great, it was a great meal. But man, what's the best Way to pay for meals like that? Do you think you ever do Like the slip ahead and pay for people or what's going on? Every once in a while, but usually it's family or Really good or somebody I owe or something. Otherwise, I've

[57:00]Kind of gotten Wait, Matt was about to say really good friends. Yeah, To see I guess to use the line from my Wife to some of her friends. Sometimes we Don't need that big dick energy going on among Friends. I don't think what I mean? Like We're all successful. You don't need to be like, I'll pay For you. You know, it's like just split it. But Also we don't need to like ask for an itemized build to Say, well, you owe 1650 and you owe 1350 and you know, taxes This, it's just split it. You're going to come out Ahead a little bit. Sometimes you're going to come out Behind sometimes, but just split the fucker right down The, however you got it right down the middle. You agree with that, Russell? What's your strategy? Yeah, I think the way we did it was the right way to Do it. So I'm good with picking up tabs and stuff Like that. It doesn't bother me. I'm willing to just, you Know, I figure I get one here, someone else gets one the Next time it all comes around, goes around. I'm not Too worried about that. But there are some people When you do something like that, if you could, if you Rub someone the wrong way with it, it's not worth

[58:00]It. And like, and I could see like having someone Saying, Hey, what the hell, like why you do That? And I remember a buddy that was a upstairs Roommate's friend and her husband, we went out one Time and we bounced around a few spots and we Were at like the second spot. And I was like, grab a Couple rounds of drinks. It wasn't a ton of money Or anything. And he kind of got bent out of shape And saying, like, you think, what do you think I Can't afford? I don't know what the deal was, but I was like, that's, I would be horrified. We don't need that. Right. So I also have to Say when I'm there with like your guys as Partners for me, just to pay, just to put my Balls right in your face and pay for that. I was like, that would be a little much. The other thing I would say, I would think it might Be different if it's, if it's like a smaller Group and someone's visiting, I think it's, it's, It's a little easier to say, Hey, you're visiting. It's my treat this time or something like that. I hope you're having a great time in our city Or I don't know, but I don't care. Whatever

[59:00]Works for other people, I, to make anything, An issue would be uncomfortable for me. Nobody did that for me. I was visiting. Nobody offered to do that. So I think that's what Rob's trying to get out here is like, Well, did anyone consider paying for Rob's dinner? No one did. After that dinner though, I am going to say this. We took a picture together. It might be the worst picture of me ever taken. I somehow got out of angled in this picture. I am sideways. I look like the state puff marshmallow man. I look like the biggest guy in the entire world. And you know what Suzanne said? She said, you made a huge mistake. You got on the end of the group. You cannot be on the end of the group. You've got to be in the middle. You will look smaller in the middle. And now that's going to be my philosophy for life. I am going to be on the middle of group pictures. So often I want to get to the outside because I'm so big. I should be getting to the middle and getting smaller. So that's my advice to you guys. You know the picture advice I remember I got from my uncle Who listens to the podcast. I remember hearing this many years ago. His thing was if you're in a picture, You put your tongue on like the roof of your mouth.

[1:00:00]It kind of sucks up that lower, that additional chin, That little extra stuff you got going on down below. The tongue in the roof of the mouth Makes you look a little slimmer through this area, Rob. Oh wow. Wow, I've been doing the alphabet. But that seems like a big deal. Who's ready to practice that anytime? I just, I was just not that surprised to see Rob. You were the third tallest person in that photo. Yeah. Fuck you, by the way, for said of that text. I had to show that to Jenny. She's like, what's wrong with that? And he's like, he's saying that everyone is taller than me. Here was my biggest question about that lunch. So I got there and we actually got there on time. Typically I'm like a five minutes late everywhere I go, But we were there early on time Because we were kind of later in the day. And it was about, I'd say 85 degrees that day. It was hot and they had a nice little patio. If it's hot out, do you guys go patio Or do you sit inside? You gotta sit inside.

[1:01:00]You gotta sit with the AC. With a group because even if just one person, Now I know some people are very sensitive to the cold inside. Okay. I married a person like this, But if you are sensitive to the heat outside, You cannot get away from that. You are miserable. I think you got to go inside. Aaron, what do you think? I mean, I don't live in the Midwest right now. So I don't have the same calculus I would have had then, But it was always a point of condition Because Anna's like, my lady is like a full on Let's sit outside no matter what, As long as there's shade. And like I'm just sweating it out. And I now would choose indoors If it's too hot, man. And it's just, it's not fun if you're out there. And then there's going to be wasps. You're going to be sweating now inside. And plus this was a five guys that we had this dinner at. So the fact that you'd walk by and see it's eating outside, I thought that was a little embarrassing. And then Matt and his wife, me and the upstairs roommate, Went to noodles afterwards when you left. Oh Jesus, didn't get enough. Didn't get your fill from five guys. It really, every time you bring that up, It puts me in a bad mood. It's just like when you've been married 20 years,

[1:02:00]Nobody's choosing eating outside. It's time for noodles. I will say this really, Nobody should be exposed to my jock jam And that type of weather, right? No, no. I almost hit it. I almost hit it there, but I didn't. I probably went to the perfect place to hit it, But I didn't. Aaron, do you think if I wore the ruck vests, If I wore the weighted vest, Making love to my lady, would that help me? Yes. Dude, there's a lot of Velcro on there. I don't think that's going to turn out well. There's going to be some, I don't know, Is she wearing a shirt or no? I don't know. But her pubic hair is just the right length For that man. That's a problem. Oh, no. Oh, no. Why? Books and loops. I can't. I can't. Honey, I'm missing an ingot. Oh, God. What? Where did they put it? Yeah. Why do I feel so heavy moving around? All right. Let's get into the album. I'm going to mention how sure not She would be robbed of it, Just like the idea of weight plates being involved. Like at a couple kilograms.

[1:03:00]Oh, if my wife could have sex with weight plates, She definitely would. Okay. She doesn't know I could. I'm a guy. Guys can easily have sexual weight plates. I don't need to explain it to you. It's like that JD Van story. So yeah, except it's me with a 25 kilo plate. I like a big. All right. So let's talk about Midnight Marauders. Of course, Tribe Called Quest is formed in Queens. We've already done the album that came up before, This low-end theory. They took two years off, Right? And they were kind of like, Oh boy, this that low-end theory came out And it was such a banger, Their second album, Such a banger, So acclaimed. They're like, what are we going to do? Well, it turns out Q-Tip set up in Fife Dog's Grandma's basement. And he just set up like a media center. So they said that they would go down there And Fife Dog would be playing video games Or watching a baseball game And just had records on with old jazz, Old beats, And they would just listen to it all day. And every once in a while, They'd hear somebody be like, Flip that, we need that,

[1:04:00]We're going to put that on the album. And that's what they did that whole time. And I was like, that sounds like my heaven. Just being like creative with the bros, Having fun, no stress. And when they got done and they put the album, Q-Tip obviously put together most of this album. And basically everybody says, Listen, Q-Tip's a fucking genius. You listen to this album, There's nothing you can think of When you hear these beats That doesn't make you think Whoever put this together is, He's an Albert Einstein. And he basically, When they heard how this album was sequenced, They turned to each other and said, Yeah, we've done it again. Like this is an absolute stone cold classic. Also in that basement, Q-Tip made one love, Realmatic. So there's a little effect for that. Oh my God, wow. This, the ward tour off this, The song off this album became The group's highest charting single And it helped the album get all the way Up to number eight in, When did this come out, 93? Classic hearing hip hop. And basically this came out the same day As Wu Tang's 36 chambers, Which is crazy. You go to the record store, You get both of these albums.

[1:05:00]And of course this, Probably called Quest, Always sampling 70s funk, soul, R&B. But the sound on this album Is a little bit grittier than Low End Theory. And what was cool is they actually Came out with four different album covers. And on the cover, They had the Low End Theory, Like the girl in neon colors or whatever. But then they also had in the background, Faces, but the faces on each album Were different. So if you've got the orange album, It's different than the green album, Which are different faces. Listen to some of these pictures They got to pose. This is one of just pictures. They had put headphones on them and posed them. African Bombada, Beastie Boys, Buster Rhyme, Chuck D, Fab Five Freddy, Dougie Fresh, Grandmaster Flash, Heavy D, Ice T, Jazzy J, DJ Jazzy Joy. So oops, I thought that was going to be somebody else. And like- The Farside. Ooh, I got the Farside in there. Farside, yeah. Cool Mo D, MC Light. So Groove is in the heart of me. Too short. Like literally, yeah. Literally this album is like somehow both

[1:06:00]A new kind of hip-hop that, You know, at the time, Is 93 Gangster Rap, Aaron? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, Chronic came out in 91. And yeah. So we've got the Chronic in all of a sudden. And the V-Ray already broken up. Hip-Hop with the jazz sound. So let's get into the album, Midnight Marauders. Now, Aaron, what did you think? Oh, by the way, I should start with this. Laura Dan was an administrative assistant At the record company, And they liked her voice, So they had her do the narrations on this album. Is this her? Oh, that's fun. So I kind of like the narration Because it kind of held the album together And like hit you over the head With the social messengers They were trying to give you. And I could not pronounce this. I apologize. With certain facts that you may find. It's a good vibe. Let's you know what's going on. Exactly. Steve Bicco. Aaron, what do you, I mean, we talked about tripod quest. What do you think? I mean, this, I think this one, I mean, Matt probably listened to them More than I did.

[1:07:00]Anytime I hear them, I don't know why I didn't listen to them more. I remember the award tour video. I remember that being a big deal. But I also felt somehow It felt more not for me Than gangster rap in a way. Like this felt they're really talking to, And I don't know, maybe this is, I don't, I don't want to get in this too far. But as a kid, it felt to me Like they were really talking to a black audience In a way that it wasn't for me. And I felt like I shouldn't necessarily Be listening or didn't get it. You know, so I don't know. I didn't listen as much. And then you can listen to this album. And you're like, well, this is the greatest hip hop You could find. I mean, just listen to the grooves, Listen to the samples in the background. This is a great vibe album. But I agree. I mean, it's an Afrocentric, Centric album. There's just no way you can't just explain it anywhere else. The first single award tour, It's got True Goy, The Dove, from Dela Sol. Rest in peace. Right, because this was it Native tongues

[1:08:00]Or what's the name of their sort of loose crew, right? Native tongues. And Boot Camp Clerk and all these others. These are the new school. I mean, this beat is so recognizable, right? You hear this exactly where you're at. And then you have Q-Tip And Fight Dog coming in. And it's just like, they're so, The rhythm they have, it's just, It's just so pleasant to listen to it blend so well With the samples and the backgrounds they have. Matt, what do you think? I, I didn't listen. I don't know if it was similar to Aaron Or just happened to be that way. But I mean, I just remember MTV And just wanting to hear like Snoop Dogg And maybe something else Maybe something by Dr. Dre. And never, ever got into a Tribe Called Quest. I think this little quest around Really got me back into them. I I listened to them a little bit, But I put them on all the time now. They're like in a regular rotation, Just go to Amazon Music

[1:09:00]And just put on a Tribe Called Quest And let their songs play. And it is unbelievable. It's Q-Tip, I cannot believe. And I, I have to think He's as well respected as he seems to be. But like, I cannot believe people don't talk about him more. And it's probably just because he hasn't, He doesn't seem like he wants to be out front, If that makes sense in kind of the media. So they're kind of a, They're not a MTV-esque type crew, right? I mean, it doesn't feel like they're making stuff To put out this album And then just be out in front of everything. It feels like they're actually artists, if you will, Who are doing it and just want to put out good music And don't kind of want, Want it to go where it goes. They're not advertising it, if that makes sense. And you know, we got kids these days Listening to the Gummy Bear song. They don't get what a huge part, Because this is going to come up next week too with Gyrk, Is MTV made a lot of music tastes. Like, if it was a good video on MTV, you saw it. How many times do you think you've heard I Will Walk 500 Miles by the Proclaimers?

[1:10:00]Yeah. I mean, a little more VH1 song maybe. But I believe that's the pretenders. Actually, I cannot make a joke about that. That's crazy. Here's the eight million stories. This is a song about him. Sorry, Rob. Can we do another cut on that? Another cut? Okay, wait. Let me turn down the music. This is going to be cut number two. Cut number two. Russell. Number two. E2. Sorry, Rob. I believe that's the replacements. Wow. That was good. You know, I haven't heard as much about that band. Leigh. I got to admit, I have something going on where I just haven't. It's almost like they're not listening anymore. Once we do the replacements, they actually used us And ditched us. Fall off one bike in the cities and leaves us. Eight million stories. This is just Bipedog having a bad day And talking about what makes a bad day. I love songs like this where it's just like a story of the day.

[1:11:00]You know what I mean? It's a very slick, wreck type dealing thing. And I have to say, we had a bad day there today Because one of the things I wanted to show Susanne in Minnesota Is I took her to Dairy Queen. And they did the blizzard. They held it upside down. It was great. But they have fasted, man. They like, they don't even, they just like, They don't even, like, they don't even tip at 90 degrees. They kind of go like, oh, get 90 degrees. I was, I don't know. I think you got to go up to Northern Minnesota, Aaron, Because they are given in the bull. You can tell they're excited to have a crowd there Because I think what's working at Dairy Queen In like February and Peek-Bop Lakes, You're like, Jesus Christ, this place, nobody here. You know what I love about Rob's friend coming in? He sends like this email. He's like, hey, we need some recommendations. Matt sends a few, Manny sends a few. I send a lot. And Rob's like, we're going to Dairy Queen. That's cool, Rob. Just don't ever ask us for recommendations. Like, it's, don't waste our time. That's like what Rob used to ask. Hey, I appreciate it, Rob. But just don't ask for recommendations.

[1:12:00]Yes. Yeah. I need a pair of your recommendation. Oh, here I wrote out two lyrics Or two paragraphs for you, Rob. You know, maybe he's something that I decided To just go with the other album. I don't want to do this one anymore. This song is called My Gray Balls. I think the other great thing was that we clearly established That only a couple of guys in the groups, mostly Russell, Were capable of giving good recommendations. But Rob kept the whole text chain on it at any time, anyway. Yeah. Yeah. And eventually, that leads to August. I'm bringing people together for sure. I also noticed, Rob, She went to one of my recommendations, But my recommendation did not get through to her. So she was telling us all about this one place, And I was like, yeah, that was one of the spots That I put in the text that Rob didn't do for her. Well, some people texted back right away, Russell. They didn't wait for a while, then text back a day later. Which, Rob, again, is fine. Just don't ask for it, then. Well what, Russell? Yeah. You're right. You're right. I'll do what you say. That's definitely who I am.

[1:13:00]It doesn't make me curious that you would say, No, don't do that anymore. Behind my back, Suzanne did something at Dairy Queen. And I didn't realize she was doing this. She bought food. And I was like, oh no. You cannot go to a Dairy Queen And purchase anything but ice cream. She got the chicken fingers. She's like, these aren't very good. I got chicken fingers last time I was there. Yeah, they're terrible. Yeah, they're terrible. I was like, you cannot do it. Why would you get food at somewhere called Dairy Queen? That's crazy. Same idea as the baseball game. They got a fryer. How bad could it be? I'm not doing this shit with a fish and chips. Man, help me out. Is he crazy, fish and chips? I mean, I love fish and chips. I love going to England to have it, But I have never, not one day in my life, Have I felt good for the next 12 hours After eating fish and chips anymore. That's true. I just had these delicious fish and chips. Time for my rock. Something like getting food wrapped in newspaper. Enjoy. Oh, this is delicious. What can I put on these chips?

[1:14:00]Ketchup? Oh, you don't have any? Just vinegar? Oh yeah, I love that shit. So good. The same stuff they use to clean out a coffee pot? Oh, Rob I use both packets of tartar sauce. They gave me I was doing the tartar sauce. Tartar sauce is great because you're like, What the fuck is this? You know what I mean? To me, when I think tartar, Do you think they're going to a dentist And they're scraping off all that tartar And putting it into tartar sauce? Because if so, I didn't give them that shit To the dentist anymore. That tastes good as hell. Sounds about right for the dentist there. Don't do that. On the back end, they're charging you And then they're selling on the back end. Typical dentist. That came up the other day too. Oh God. Russell, what were you going to say? Aaron, please tell me though, I need to know, Did you request some sort of like bizarre Like sauce for the fish and chips? No, actually no. There's like three there. You asked for what they have that. You asked for something strange, right? No, I did not. But here's what did happen. I just took the, she put the two packages

[1:15:00]Of tartar sauce in with the chips And that was it. But then this is the Coliseum now. It's like, it's fucking Mad Max shit. Like I walked by what looked like a crate And on the front of the crate, it was like, Stop here for all your sauces. And it was supposed to be like a sauce spot. It was, you had like, it's empty. It's fucking empty. It was like, it looked like, ah man, it's barbecue. It's all this, and no. It's like a trusty cuisine. They're just making fresh sauce for you. Let's flip to bread. Here's an aioli. We need a bunch of fat middle-aged men To work these ships going to Shanghai. Who can we kidnap to do that? Oh, I know. We'll set up a sauce thing. They outbid. Boom. We're Shanghai. We're set. That'd be so mad if I thought I was going to eat sauces Instead of I got Shanghai'd. I will say this, at the cabin, One of the big problems we have at the cabin Is too many sauces. End of the year, we got to clean out the fridge And my sister was like, god damn it,

[1:16:00]Every year we do this, you're gone, Rob. I got to sit here and clean out every sauce. And I was like, okay, listen, this year, I'm not going to buy as many sauces. I go to the grocery store. They have a smell wasabi, a wasabi mayo mixture. Go for it. I had to buy that so fast. I couldn't care less. I was like, I'm going to put this on everything. It is delicious, okay? God, the world of sauces right now. I've got that horseradish sandwich sauce. Oh, I love sauces. Anyway, what is in tartar sauce, by the way? Oh, cream of tartar and mayo? Oh, Aaron, don't ever say that to me again. Sucka n-word. This is kind of a history of the n-word. And this is a word that they're using on this album That they haven't used on previous albums, right? So it makes it a little more, A little bit of a different feel for sure. It is one where like, I thought like, I can play this, I'm in the house. And then that word comes up enough that I'm like, I don't think I'm ready to have that conversation with my son. I think that's a good point. We have Midnight the Void.

[1:17:00]This is with Raphael Sadiq is on this one. Talking about Midnight. Now, can I ask you guys this? Raphael Sadiq, Oakland's own. Do you guys have a secret for getting to bed at a good time? I'm in a spiral right now. I'm in a TikTok spiral. I'm in a bad place. What are we doing to go to bed on time? We're not starting a TV show. I mean, really, ultimately, it's like, Well, it's 9.15, right? I could go read the newspaper, read a book, do a crossword, Or I could sit down and watch a 48 minute show That I'm going to get sucked into And then watch one more episode. So I just, I don't know. That's my trigger. I just have to not sit down and get into a show. Just go right to bed, do something else. Aaron, what are you doing at bedtime? Well, my son doesn't go to bed until 10 now. So that's a lot. So then you got to have like a little bit of wind down time. Usually we've watched our show before he goes to sleep. And then, yeah, I try to tell myself, like, no, Don't be looking up, like, how-to videos on YouTube.

[1:18:00]Like, now is not the time to figure out How to unclog the fucking sprinkler nozzle. But I always end up, like, looking up something on YouTube. But I try to just read my book. I try to set my phone. I pulled out the filter, you'd clean out the filter And then put it back in. Not yet, because so far, I'm just adjusting the top nozzle, Fixed it, because it was, like, shooting At the side of the house. But, yeah, I'm going to have to get the filter. Yeah, the goal is to keep the phone on the other side of the room And just read my book. But then I'll be like, I got to look this thing up. And then I'm, like, 1130 consistently. Like, I go to bed 1130. If I go to bed after that, it's too late. Aaron's probably doing the crawl out the bathroom piss In the backyard. I think, again, he was doing it for a while. And Aaron's wife at gmail.com was like, Why is there this stuff all over the house? And he's like, ah, the nozzle's spraying. Damn, I better talk about it on the podcast. I can't clean the filter. I can't clean the filter. And you got to clean the filter. Can I tell you what I got to do last night on TikTok? This is an hour. I watch these. It is a long haul trucker operator who calls and makes deals

[1:19:00]For loads going certain distances for a certain amount of money. I would watch these. He'd be like, listen, I got a tractor trailer. You need a load from Rockford to Mobile, Alabama, But I got a dead head at 50 miles. I'd be like, oh, damn, that's a long dead head. And so then they would negotiate a deal. And they literally spend 10 minutes negotiating like $50. Like they're not paying them. They're paying them like $2,000. I have no idea what a good deal is. I have no idea. So what I would get done is I would go to the comments And in the comments, people would be like, What the fuck are you doing? Like you're an idiot. Or it'd be like, wow, that's really good. And I watched these and at like one in the morning, I was like, what am I doing? What am I doing in my life that I'm watching it? I'm getting nothing out of this. Tonight at one in the morning, you'll be talking to us. So. My lot lizards that I have here with me. We can get down. I don't think fife dog makes anybody's top five or 10 mc lists. Like you don't see them on lists of top mcs. And I don't know if it's just because it's a collective.

[1:20:00]And so no one mc gets elevated, but he's got a great voice And has some like all of the Dennis albums, great lines. I read the day fife dog and q-tip met When they were two years old. Oh, then when they were nine, they were like, Hey, let's start a, let's start rapping. Wow. Crazy. Can you imagine finding talented people to work with? Great. Still waiting. Electric doesn't bother me that you reverse the joke on me. It makes me mad. Maybe it makes me think about how I make other people feel. And I'll never do that. I'll never put myself in your, I'll never put myself in your weighted vest, Aaron. Make those around them better. I had that experience of pickup last week. You know the guy who like is the best guy on your team And takes all the shots and then you lose And then he's mad at everyone else. He's like, you got to cut there. You got to cut worse than a pick. And it's like, look, man, I'm, I'm doing my best, But you're, you're making, You're taking all the shots and we lost. I don't want to tell you, dude.

[1:21:00]Hey, Larry Brown, suck my nuts. I'm playing pickup basketball. Shut the fuck up. We're the best player. You're obviously the reason we lost. Like man, talking to us, Man, talking to a star player after a game. It's your fault. You're the best. You're the only one with a mustache. That sideburn for Christ's sake. Rob, we're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the podcast. We're talking about practice. So good. So good. Not a game. Electric relaxation. Not the podcast that I stay up super late for. We're talking about practice. Guys, this next joke I make is going to be my step over. It's my hitting the three and stepping over them. Oh, speaking of practice. Have you guys ever watched? Oh, I thought he was going to talk about jacking on. What's the soccer show? The coach. Oh, Apple TV. Where he's nice. Oh, Ted Lasso. Ted Lasso. I got your Ted Lasso. There's parts of it that were really good.

[1:22:00]Like the feel good moments are amazing. And people, I know everyone's watched that, But don't need to make a recommendation. But I started to try to rewatch it With the upstairs roommate. And I realized if the upstairs roommate doesn't Under, doesn't know the Allen Iverson practice bit, The whole thing is lost. You got to start again. And you got to move to the bit. Yeah. Can I tell you what to do, Russell? I would sit down and explain the bit. Because I find they like that a lot when you're like, Oh, you didn't get that? Well, let me, I'm going to pull up a YouTube video. We're going to watch this. And then I'm going to kind of explain to you Who Allen Iverson was in general to kind of help Because I realized that just show you YouTube clip Doesn't help. It's a great idea, Russell. Sounds a little familiar, but we can just move it along. Talk about big energy that's not needed, right, Matt? I did have this realization listening to this album That like, I had to Google who Steve Biko was. How many times have I heard this album? I never looked it up. I had to Google Steve Biko. So they're trying to teach you stuff all through this album. But of course, my favorite song was Electric Relaxation Because I'm an idiot and the song's about sex.

[1:23:00]So I was like, this is the one I like. And there's so much other stuff going on that I missed. I feel like a rap song is one of the few places Where dudes, bros, and you know my idea. Bros lifting up bros. Bros hanging out together or bro hang? Awesome. But if you're in a bro hang and everybody's just talking About how horny they are, that only works in a rap song. Like if we were all sitting together in Vegas And I was like, God damn, guys, I am so horny right now. Nobody'd be like, wow, that's crazy. I'm horny too. That's why it works because you're the only one Who talks that way. The rest of us don't. Didn't you hear our version of the Sweden? What was that? What was better, the video a few weeks ago? Oh, well, yeah, that did actually. Eric cries, Eric birds. That was about as close to a circle jerk As we've ever done on this podcast for sure. Yeah, that feels incredibly close. You know, if you say, if somebody sat down next to you And was like, God, I just got a hot nut. I got to get out. You'd be like, I don't want to hear this. What are we talking about right now? Flap your hands, which has a line.

[1:24:00]Cock is bigger than the hat worn by Dr. Seuss. Now, I'm going to say this. I want to dispute this. Dr. Seuss didn't wear the hat. You're thinking of the other cat. Okay. Dr. Seuss could have worn ironically a very small hat. That seems like something he would do. I don't know what Dr. Seuss looks like. Are there any photos of him? You know what? Should we look it up? What if he looks like Bert Reynolds or something? You know what I mean? Like he's just pulling ass. He was like, all right, some good books. No, just like what he would look like. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. He is sticking the tongue up though. He is top of his mouth. He's got a good smile. All right. Next one. Oh my God. I see who is featured. It's our old friend, Busta Rhymes. Busta Bust. What do they do with him? They put him on the chorus saying one line over and over. Sample his voice pretty much right. It was terrible. I was like, I was getting ready for Busta Rhymes.

[1:25:00]And this is so weird. This is it. And this is after. He got a feature on here and he doesn't rap at all. And he blew up on the last album. I almost wonder if like he did so well on their last album. He was like, well, I have to not do anything to keep that being my good. Because if he bombed. It's really bizarre. But does Busta Rhyme bomb? I don't think so. No, I don't think so. Oh, I've heard he has a song about directions. I think he didn't at St. Olaf. No, definitely. That was the hottest crowd he's ever had. He'd hold the mic out and it was just silence and be like, all right, sounds good. Whoops. Don't know these lyrics. Meanwhile, Citizen King is there and I'm going crazy. Keep it rolling. This is with Large Professor producing it. Also rapping here. He was also a producer on Elmatic, right? I believe so. And it turns out Russell why they call them Large Professor?

[1:26:00]It turns out he was wearing a weighted vest. He was a normal sized professor. And that piece of shit wore a weighted vest to make everybody think he was a large Professor. So Russell, I want to get bigger. This is like when people say to me, oh, yeah, I have a lot of trouble gaining weight. Why the fuck would you say that to me? Why would you say that to me? Look at me. It's crazy. It'd be like if I went and wore a wig because my hair wasn't thick enough already. Like what, what are we talking about here? If we showed up to Aaron and we hauled wigs, that'd be crazy. He's wearing a vest and we have wigs on. That'd be so good. Actually, that doesn't really make sense if you think about it, but the chase part two. This is, they actually have this member, this Jarobi, who quit during the last album. He quit during Loan Theory and they said that they just kept an open door policy for him. And anytime he wanted to come in, he could.

[1:27:00]And he's kind of a personality hire. Like he made it fun. How nice. I was like, that's bros lifting up bros. You know what I mean? Like I feel like if Matt's like, listen, I'm just going to pop in every once in a while. I think we'd submit an option. He's tried though. Right. We haven't allowed it yet. He's got to get jumped out. You look at the bylaws. Jumped out. Wait a second. I got to write down the joke together podcast. All right. There we go. All right. Lyrics. No, I'm sorry. Okay. God lives through. Something. But you skipped lyrics to go, I think. Which I mean, lyrics to go. I mean, after a while, right? It's all starting to sound the same, but the sound is good. I enjoy the sound. Yes. A lot of that same snare sound for sure. God lives through. What difference there in this one has five different samples on it.

[1:28:00]I don't know why I wrote that down. Seems like a lot. Notable. Yeah. All right, guys. That is it for Midnight Marauders. Let's get into the always patented, always popular Rating system. Listen, we don't care about the album. Guess what? Professional albums are good. Okay. We care about the list. Did they get this list right? 201. 201 for Midnight Marauders. Okay. A seminal album for like alternate hip hop kind of like jazz hip hop. 93. This is right in our wheelhouse. Is this deserved to be down at 201? Or if you're listening way in the future, And we've already done episode 500, way up on the list, Which of course is a lower number at 201. Okay. And if you are listening for the future, okay. Am I alive? God, I hope so. I want to live forever. So let's see what we think.

[1:29:00]Aaron, what do you think? Rolling well toned, rolling bone or rolling grown? Now I didn't explain what those mean, But we're going so late that I better do that quickly. Rolling well toned is where it would be perfect at 201. Okay. Wait, I think you did explain it, right? Rolling boned, okay, is if, okay, just like that hot nut. Okay. It should have been way earlier. That didn't make sense. Or is it a rolling grown? Man, that is dying. Where's my sound clip for rolling grown here? Found it. Don't have the Russell one. You want that so bad? Okay. Hey, anybody else feeling horny right now? I'm just going to say it every once in a while. That would be a rolling grown. Okay. It should not be this high on the list. So 201, Aaron, is that a good place for it? Rolling well toned, rolling bone or rolling grown? What do you think? I think this is too good. I think it's got to be a rolling bone. I don't know what it would take the place of. I don't actually know how you choose

[1:30:00]Between this and low end theory. They're both so good, but it may not be as good As some of the stuff we're about to hear, But I think it's better than a lot of what we have heard. So I'm going rolling boned. I love it. I think it's the perfect summation. Matt, rolling well toned, rolling bone or rolling grown? What do you think? I think it's rolling well toned right here. I said if I had my druthers, Maybe a little bit lower in the list, But I think 201 is a pretty good spot for it. I do like low end theory better than this album, Even though they mean that it's pretty much the same thing. So I don't know. This the low end theory of the low end Is pretty cool to listen to and some, Some big speakers, things like that. So I do like that one. But so I'm just going to say it's rolling well, Well toned right here at 201. Russell, rolling well toned, Rolling bone or rolling grown midnight marauders? I'm going to say rolling well toned as well. I enjoyed listening to it. You know, the one this reminded me a little, One of the favorite artists I've gotten into Are groups over the last year or so was Jurassic Five. I know this is different than Jurassic Five,

[1:31:00]But it's kind of a similar, very musical. It's different than like the, The gangstrap that we grew up with. So definitely not one that I was super into as a kid. And there were definitely songs in this Where you're listening. And Aaron mentioned at the very beginning Where it doesn't feel like this was written for me. And obviously it's, it's people with a different vantage Point that are singing about different things That you and I maybe grew up with and everything. So I don't feel like I'm the audience for it, But I really enjoyed it. So I'm going to say rolling well toned, But I heard a little Jurassic Five from my perspective. Kind of the style, if you will, if that makes sense. Unfortunately, you guys are incorrect. Oh, hell. Shit. Shit. This album that meshed rap with jazz gets a rolling vibraphone. Nice. You want to combine insane lyrics with an insane flow With some of the best vibes on the Jazzy Jams. This is our last tribe album on the list.

[1:32:00]Okay. And I want to say they're both pretty good. Okay. That's my hot take. Next up. Finally, we get to hear a musician from Iceland That isn't just Cigar Rose, Emily Lee Torini, Monty Orison of Monsters and Men, Gus, Or of course the Sugar Cubes. Just kidding. She's actually the lead singer in the Sugar Cubes To choose 12, but you guys do that already. We've got Björk with homogenic. Oh, no. That's not the sound. Where's the sound? Where's the song? Oh, here it is right here. Almost a disaster. Luckily, I saved it. If we hadn't, we'd never end. We'd still be here all night until Matt's call tomorrow morning. Matt, Aaron's advice for that call? Double beers. Little fish. Six and two hours. Can you imagine Aaron getting called into HR?

[1:33:00]Aaron, we recently heard you did a call for work Where you ate fish and chips at the stadium beforehand. We're going to have to talk about it on your podcast. Yeah. We're going to have to put you on a pip. Where's I don't think I have either good night or never end. The other one on never ending episode. It really can't. Oh, wow. So I guess we'll just do. Yeah. I don't know. I guess we just end it right now, right? We just say, but guys, can I say one thing now That the microphones are on? I'm so horny. That helps actually. If I said that to you, that I'm horny and then played that music. Sounds fun. Oh, this guy's like sex on a trampoline. Fun. Would that be fun? Sex on tramp. You know what? Russell would be a disaster. Sex on a trampoline. I was wearing my weight. Weight vest?

[1:34:00]If I'm wearing a weighted vest, right? There is nothing more divisive than sex wearing a weighted vest. I do it. Great. Sex gets better. She wears a weighted vest. Disaster. Okay. Nobody has ever said, I wish my spouse would wear a weighted vest While I make love to them. And the other thing Rob is these people with the weighted vest, They don't put on like a hundred pounds. They don't like really test themselves. They're just like, I'm just going to do enough to show people that I'm a badass. Yeah, they're doing the different. The weight they're putting on is the difference between me in the morning And then me in the afternoon when I'm actually in the doctor's office. I weigh myself in the morning. I'm like, damn, looking good. I go to the doctor's office. I'm like, I'm going to be on fucking TLC. I'm so big. I don't know what the difference is, sir. I know you want to return this weighted vest, But it has tartar sauce all over it. This doesn't make sense to me.

[1:35:00]It's time to say Goodbye. We'd be through 500 albums by now. Rob just could end this and nobody's supposed to do. Well, what do you want me? I don't have any sound clip. What am I supposed to do? I'm an animal. I've seen a lot. We've said it all. We've said it all. What more can you say? Okay. I turn the microphones off for real. Okay. It's horny. You guys horny. You can tell me. We're just bros hanging out. Let's wrap. If a guy turned to me and said I'm horny, I'd be like, oh, great. I got to blow this guy in the airport bathroom now. Great. Okay. Let's go. My flight's delayed. Line for the Delta Club too long.

[1:36:00]You don't take my second rate credit card there anymore. Oh my God. All right. I want to make sure to get that bit. I told you that one time, Jenny got in trouble at the airport Because she had weights in her bag. Was the weights or the powders? I thought you got the powders. Oh, yeah. Of course. But then you know you cannot bring more than four weights? Like circular weights in your carry-on? No, nobody does. Why would she bring weights in her carry-on? Because they were like 1.5 kilo weights And she wants her bench to go up by. I swear to God. Sometimes I just think like if she got arrested, I would just keep going to the gate. I'd be like, you're on your own. Oh, I can't bring weights on the plane? What? What did that lady say? She wants to bring weights on the plane? That's crazy. Yeah. Maybe your husband likes to fuck up into the bathroom. Like that guy told me he was horny before security.

[1:37:00]That's true. There he is. Hey, long line. I'm bomber. Especially you're so horny like I am. Man. Bomber. How about these scanning machines that sure does get me horny? Oh, I don't need to pat down? Okay. If you went through the air, You turned to the guard and you said, Listen, just let you know I am horny. They'd be like, okay, you're actually good. You're through. You're good. I've been chomping it up back here. So it's going. Meanwhile, like a female saying to me, They're horny. I'd be like, great. That's actually, that's one of the greatest things I've ever heard in my life. Number one, the song, happy birthday. Love it. Take it another bit. Make it be happy. It's my birthday. Number two, a woman saying to me, I'm horny. There is there any other phrase, The dichotomy between men and women saying it to you,

[1:38:00]Where it's so good to so bad? I don't think. Hey, just picture this, Erin, attractive woman. Erin, I'm horny. Great. Love it. Let's talk about it. Your dad. Hey, thanks for this holiday gift. Just let you know I am pretty horny. Oh, God.
