Gang of Four: Entertainment! (1979)
[0:00]In 2020, four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by Rolling Stone magazine. This resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music, excoriated the order, and led us to making this podcast. We are far from experts. We promise to do almost no research. Speaking of excoriating, did you do something to your skin, Rob? You're kind of looking pretty good. Did you excoriate your skin? You know what I did the other day is my daughter had a party here with like... Maybe it's your eyebrows. Did you do something to your eyebrows? Well, I got a haircut. Look at this. That's pretty sweet. Because I have a Science Olympiad meet tomorrow. So I like to go in and get a... He definitely has had something done with his eyebrows, man. Yeah. What's up with your eyebrows? No, guys. I'm telling you. They look good. I'm just saying they look good. I'm telling you, before this party, I went and did jujitsu and I rubbed my face into some guy's gi and I had a huge red rash coming down off one of my eyes. And my kid's like, what the fuck did you just do? It's called jock itch. I think it might be like ringworm. But you know what? The ringworm... Worms in our head.
[1:00]Worms in our head is the new big thing. Everybody's doing it these days. Doesn't Jenny's dad, wasn't he a wrestling coach? Oh, yeah. Can he? Yeah. So he could tell you if it's a ringworm right away, couldn't he? I'm sure he could. Yeah. He's kind of an expert on fungal infections. I'm sure. No problem. Hey, he and I together, Matt, we've got almost every kind of infection covered. You know what I mean? Like he's got a fungal infection covered. You're a bunch of fun guys. Yeah. I've got bacterial infections covered. Russell, you've got viral infections covered. We all know that story. The other thing Rob's got going on tonight is he's wearing like a... It looks like a robe. It looks like a robe or his caftan or whatever the hell he calls that. It's a house coat. He's got something that like kind of comes down, like armpits down. It doesn't close all the way. This is my robe. It's a nice light one. Matt and Rob, are you walking around the house in the robe? Are you wearing socks when you wear the robe or not? Usually not. No. Can I tell you what I do now, Russell, with my socks? I come home. I come home and I take them off one at a time, nice and slow. Of course, if I ask other people, nobody says yes. And then I give them to my... My dog as a toy.
[2:00]He gets so excited when he has my socks. He loves them. He's chewing them and he's walking around with the socks. He's so happy with my socks. And then sometimes he comes right to the source. Oh, my God. But that's what's going on. Listen. Okay. Aaron, don't you think Rob's eyebrows look good? Look at those things. Very nice eyebrows. Yeah, really good. I'm telling you guys. He says he didn't do anything. Did you have them done? Aaron and I, Russell and I are calling bullshit. You know, part of what it is, it looks like he's... It also looks like he's fully shaved is what it is. Normally, he's got like a... You have like a backlight now, like facing. Guys, I'm telling you, I think maybe my barber did a little something to my eyebrows, but that's... I'm telling you. Oh, wait a minute. Maybe a little something. Yeah. Maybe just got a little something for daddy. Is this a... Is this a we don't have... A little special treatment. We don't have any voicemails kind of situation where... No, no, no, no, no. We've got lots of voicemails. This is like the... We could use Rob... This is like the Rob Jim Carrey moment the other day, like where Ron has replaced Roy or Rob or whatever his name is right now. What's the Jim Carrey story? Someone thinks he's got a body double?
[3:00]Look at what Jim Carrey looked like at this award ceremony he went to. The eyes give it away. It's crazy. So it's not him, we think? Jim Carrey, photo, weird. I'm just going to type that in. Jim Carrey, photo, weird. Please go click on images. Go back. Okay. Russell hates it when I don't click on images. There you go. Yeah, this is Jim Carrey. This is what he looked like at the award ceremony. Oh, that's not him at all. No. No, it's... It's bizarre. Like, look at that. Look at that. Yeah. I got to say, guys, if I get plastic surgery on my face, I need somebody to tell me. Like, don't stop. Don't do any more. It doesn't look good. I need... Can you guys promise to be honest with me when I eventually get plastic surgery on my face? I'll just tell you right now, Rob. Don't get plastic surgery. You look great as it is. You're looking great. What have you been doing at Science Olympia? I'd be like, yeah, physics. Yeah. Do some physics over there, Johnny. Let me tell you what... What are you doing? Object in motion stays in motion.
[4:00]Yeah. I'm in charge of the evening gown segment, of course. No, I... Russell, I am running the circuit lab test. I mean, Rob, you can edit this out, but I told Anna I had to get on early tonight because Rob has Science Olympia tomorrow, so she's running the carpool right now, and I'm home, so we'll see what... At some point, my kid's going to bust in here, and he's going to be in trouble and the usual stuff. Aaron, way to put her in her place. Good job. I told her I had to get on. She said, does Rob... Rob liked doing Science Olympia, and I said, yeah, I think he likes it the same way he Likes being married to Jenny. Like, he's going to complain about it, but he secretly loves it. He loves this shit. Hey, I got a question for Aaron about his carpool. Here, let me get to my point of the question now. So if there are three families in the carpool, I'm asking Rob and Matt, are Aaron and his wife driving over 33% of the time or under 33% of the time? Because I have a feeling I know the answer. How come you're always picking up? How come you're never the drop-off guy, like, in the morning or...
[5:00]Over, under. What is... Is Aaron over, under a third with the three families? Aaron is getting used and uber-bused on this carpool. He is the official Lyft driver. I don't even... He is doing over 50%, guaranteed. Do people abuse the fact that you've got one kid? I mean, do they kind of, like, lean into that every once in a while? Like, ooh, I got to go... No! Lucy's got to go to a friend. You know who does... Actually who does that? That doesn't happen that often. People around here are pretty respectful. I do volunteer. They're often to drive since I have one kid. You're a good guy. You know who abuses that, though, is Replacements Guy. Replacements Guy, if you're ever with him and his kids, he is looking for an out anytime. Anytime. He's trying to escape. He's like, hey, can you hang out here with, like, these four kids, and I got to go check on, like, literally anything else? He's constantly looking for an escape. That is so fucked up. Just dumping other kids onto somebody else. And also, I 100% get it. I've started to become... When I come to that guy at work, or they put me in charge of stuff, instantly, I'm handing
[6:00]It off to somebody else. Yes. I'm like, you should probably take care of this. It's so great. It feels good. You're in the fuck it stage, Rob. You're getting there. Trust me. I am big time. Can I just say this? We do have to get done early tonight. I do have to get up right now in seven hours, six and a half hours now, to get on a bus to go to Science Olympiad with 45 middle schoolers and seven of their parents. Oh, that's the worst part. Here's the real problem. That bus is going to smell good. Here's the main... Here's the big problem, guys. There's a good chance that we're going to make it to States this year. Yes. There's a good chance that if we... You get paid more if you go to State, right? Absolutely not. There is no award. And in fact, I would say this. States... Oh, do you think it's in New York City, one of the greatest cities in the world? Greatest city in the world. Or... No, it's States, Russell. That's a different state. But it's multiple states? It's like a tri-state thing? No, Russell, you got to go to... It's never stopped your football teams. Probably going to Poughkeepsie. Up to Syracuse. It's a four and a half hour bus ride up there.
[7:00]And it's two days. It's an overnight stay for States. And Russell, do you want to guess what Friday it is? Do you want to guess what Friday in April it is? I don't know anything. It is April 23rd. That was a date in which one Russell was going to come out and visit me in New York. There's a chance, Russell, that I'm not going to get to see you because I will be going to States. That's too good of a teacher. You're too good of a teacher for Science Olympiad. And Rob, also he never made it as a high school athlete that far because he calls it States. I've never heard it called States with an S. That must be a New York State. And the other thing I got from New York, when it comes to Jersey, when it comes to Science Olympiad, is that like youth baseball where supposedly every kid of every friend I've ever known wins state every year? Like, no, is there one state or is there multiple states? As a national organization, there's only one state, okay? There's only one, and there's a chance that I'm going to go get fifth place in the regionals, have to go to state, and then get absolutely smashed at state while I waste yet another weekend of my life.
[8:00]So if you finish fifth in the regional, you go to state. Yeah. What are we talking about? I'm just telling you the rules. Listen, if we get close, I might be smashed in a mousetrap car. Shouldn't you have to win the regional to go to state? Yes. I think so. Because you know what else? It extends this by a month. Okay? It extends this whole. It's terrible. But you don't have to go to the room tomorrow. Like, you don't have to go. You have some control over this, right? Well, I do grade the circuit lab. I could give them whatever grade I want. Maybe nobody would ever check. We are far from experts. We promise to do almost no research. All opinions are our own. Unless you disagree, please sit back and enjoy. Beck did it better. We are all the way up to album 273. And from 1979, I think we have a lot of questions. I think we have an album that, honestly, if you look at the lyrics, might be one of the smartest albums we've ever listened to.
[9:00]And this is going to become, I'm officially titling this episode, our genius episode. This is where we're going to talk about genius stuff. Okay? This album covers situationalism. God damn it. I'm sorry, what? Situationism. You nailed it. It's got the philosophy of Foucault and Jean Lacan. Aaron what my, when I read philosophy what my favorite philosophy is? Feel us off these nuts. Feel us off these nuts are. Ooh. Ooh, burn. I've got a 10 and a 14 year old now. And we're, we've got a lot of D's nuts jokes at all times. No, that's pretty good. You've, you've made it. You won't be hearing any more in this episode because this is a genius episode. And in fact, this album is so smart. It's like when you go, we're having a clean episode, everybody. We're having a clean episode. This is the genius episode. And I'll just tell you a critic said this album was like James Joyce's epic Ulysses. And I actually studied Ulysses in college. Okay. Studied Ulysses. You do lips on these nuts. Oh, all right.
[10:00]Let's get it. Oh, wait. And I've got three guys here. Okay. No, no, no parody song this week. I've got three guys here. These are ripe for parody. Let's, let's write one on the fly right now. I don't think so. I got, I've got three guys here who didn't want to listen to this album. Cause one of the songs was titled naturals, not in it. What? That's the opposite of my internet searches. I've got Matt in Minneapolis, man. How are you doing? Rob? Sometimes I'm thinking that I love you, but I know it's only lust. Wow. I've got, Oh, I can tell Aaron's family's home. So I'm going to make that big naturals joke again. Let's see if they could come in the door during this part. I can't believe they're home. Russell in Minneapolis. Russell, how are you doing? Rob? I actually came across one of my old dating profiles the other day and I thought I could share my headline if that's all right. Yes, please. Your kiss. So sweet. Your sweat. So sour. Wow. I don't think sweat should be sour, right? No. If you got some sweat on your tongue and it's sour, you've got to go to the doctor. You've got to go to the doctor immediately.
[11:00]Okay. Stop hanging out with that person. And I've got, I've got Aaron and Aaron was telling me, he goes guys, today it's crazy to think that the crosswalk is something humans invented and the crosswalk has saved so many lives. Whereas in the olden days, it's what the Romans made you do. You know what I mean? It's, it's crazy. Hey, Easter's coming up, Aaron. You could use that joke in the future. Aaron, how are you doing? How are you doing? Wow. That's, that's a deep, that's a deep joke, Rob. That's good. Thank you. Hey, fornication is fun. Let's talk about the gang of four. Wow. And you know what time it is? It's time to get right into our voicemail. I forgot it's on this page. Let's get right into our voicemail. Hey, can I say this to our fans? We desperately need voicemails. Look at. Look at how proud he is of you, Aaron, having a podcast. It's being, it's being broadcasted around the world.
[12:00]Tell him it's the genius episode. Do the, do that full call. It's the genius episode, Wallace. We're doing, it's the genius episode. Smart stuff. Why is that one guy wearing a robe? Do you want to put that on and talk to the guys? Ask him if he's got any smart jokes. Yeah. Sure. Say one thing. Yeah. Say what you want. Here. I need to go to the bathroom. Oh my gosh. You know what? That was wildly inappropriate. Oh my goodness. It's a genius episode. We're not, we haven't talked about the bathroom for at least two episodes. What is his mother teaching him? We're only saying genius stuff around here. Like I gotta go, I gotta restock the fridge in the bathroom. All right. I meant the toilet paper. The cold toilet paper. Here comes the voice. It's still something I want to do. What are your thoughts on old bands putting out new music? That's it. Short and simple. What do we think? Old bands, new music. Okay. I gotta tell you. I, I, is, is, is there anything sadder than seeing like kid rock struggling on stage? We talked about a little bit.
[13:00]Well, if you're going to go there, sure. Well, but I mean, but even like, just let's do like, cause let's face it. Are any like Rolling Stones came out with an album three, four years ago, right? Like a new one. It was not good. I think it's, I think it's awesome that they put it out. I didn't listen. I didn't even know it was bad. I didn't listen. Yeah. No, I, I think the risk reward kind of a thing. I think the risk reward kind of a thing is let everybody just keep doing whatever the hell they want to do. Right. Like, cause occasionally you get some good music or you get a good twist or you get a Couple of good songs, things like that. So what's the best song by an old band? You know, it's gotta be, it's gotta be, I'm going to go with, I'm going to go. Oh, that's a really good word. I mean, Johnny Cash has got a whole American series. Yeah. That's the best by old people for sure. If you lined all, if you would get a greatest 500 song list by old bands or artists, he's probably got. 90 of the 500. Yeah. I mean, that American series is so fucking good. I think you could listen to that and think that was Johnny Cash.
[14:00]You know what I mean? Like if you could pull up rowboat by Johnny Cash, that would be great. Oh, yes, man. I'm seeing on a list. I'm seeing black pearl by, is it black pearl by pearl jam, black dark matter. What is that? That's a, that's their newest album, which is good. I mean, it's widely thought of as. A like great album that they've, they probably had their best one. They have had a couple of duds. People think duds. I like. Yes. You say duds. I say bugs. Give me more bugs. You know what I mean? I love that. So they gig a ton in like 2022 and everybody didn't like, I liked that album. But then when dark matter came out there, everybody's like, Oh, here we're back. Kind of a thing. So it's like the 14th, 13th or 14th album. And so there are, they're in their sixties. Everybody thinks. It's weird that they're still putting out music. What do you think they're going to do? Like, that's the only job they've ever had. That's what I mean. Do you think it's tough being a rock star and pretty soon you're just like married and
[15:00]You like have a life and you're not just getting your knob slobbed all over the United States? I think 98% of rocks. Yes. It's hard because like, I'm going to see, let's let's like Bush, right? All I want to hear, all I want to hear is machine head and glycerine and stuff like that. Right. Like, I don't care what they put. Right. And that's what, to be honest, that's what Pearl jam, a lot of the Pearl jam concerts are like that, right? They still play 50% of the music's from the first three albums, but that's, that's what Everybody wants to hear. And it's still rocket, but you know, when the new stuff comes on is, that's when everybody goes to the bathroom, but Pearl jam, I don't, I wouldn't even, I guess you do consider them an old band. I guess hanging out with you, man. I've never thought of them as like past their prime. They've been around for 30. They're only as old as we are by a little plus a little bit. They can't be that old. They've only been around since we were in elementary school. They can't be that old. Oh my God, guys. Hey, they're in their sixties.
[16:00]I mean, maybe that's, maybe that's the advantage of being like a jam band, like a Dave Matthews. Cause I feel like I could go see a Dave Matthews and not know any of the new stuff and still enjoy it. Yeah. But if you went and he didn't play satellite or two step or whatever it's called, you would riot. Yeah. You'd be like, I'm going to burn this place down. Hey what I'm going to do? I'm going to take this tour bus. I'm going to take it over bridge. I'm going to do it. I'm going to jump out the toilet and who cares what I would listen to any new music Pearl Jam puts out. Right. I would love it. Yeah. Some of them are okay, but I would love to hear whatever they have to put out. But let's say like, I don't know. Oasis. I would love to hear what they're putting out, but I can't believe that they're going to put out anything near what they had from the mid nineties. And you know what? Like we said, it's great that they're doing it, but sometimes we just got to let new people make, I don't know why I keep fucking with the volume. But we just got to let new people make music. You know what I mean? That's how music goes. Like that's not like there's a, but there's not like a, we don't get full up.
[17:00]It's not like there's a, yeah, kind of a thing. So let it out. Go ahead. Yeah. I would just rather, I guess I'd rather hear, but I don't listen to new music. I listen to the same stuff over and over. So not a good person to talk about it. Russell, what about you? I mean, no one wants to hear my take on music. But isn't this like you? It's like, I don't know what I'm talking about, but I don't know what I'm talking about. Cause I know you're talking about Metallica, the sphere. Yeah. Metallica on the last tour was doing a no repeats night. So if you were in town and they're doing that in the sphere again, so they play Thursday Saturdays and they do two completely different sets, ideally to pull you to both concerts. And that's dangerous because you could go and miss your favorite songs on the next night. Right. Cause it the playlist, if you look at the Metallica playlist, there's a lot more off of St. Anger than you would care for. No, no, no, no, no. They're never going to play. You don't think so? I don't think they're going to play St. Anger in public. Oh, I, okay. I saw the double show from Metallica at U.S. Bank during the summer tour of Russ a year ago.
[18:00]And I don't think there was anything from St. Anger. But you saw one show, right? I went to both shows, Rob. See, that's the thing. Yeah. I went to the first one. Then I went to Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins. Then I went to Metallica again. Oh my God. And then I went to Journey. But see, let's say we went to the Steve Miller band. June 29th show, right? Here's the problem, Russell. What if you just go to one, right? Look at the songs on that and tell me you wouldn't have an amazing time. Whiplash, For Whom the Bell Tolls. All right. Starting out with Whiplash would kick ass. Ride the Lightning. But then we have Memory Remains, Lux Eterna. What the fuck is that off of? That's one of the newer ones. Yeah. Too Far Gone. Then the Jam. Sanitarium, that would kick ass. The Call of Cthulhu is amazing. And then The Unforgiven followed by Whiskey in the Jar. Whiskey in the Jar, Blackhead, Moth Into a Flame, One, and Her Sandman. That rips. Yeah. That probably. That probably would be the best concert any band could put out. But you're going to listen to two songs off of 72 Seasons? Like, you're going to go to one Metallica concert and hear two songs off 72 Seasons?
[19:00]Come on. That's just because it's the newest one. But like, there's nothing from St. Anger. There's nothing from Death Magnetic. There's nothing from any of those. But that's the problem, right? If you just go to one of these shows, man, you're fucked if you miss, like, if you don't go to this show, you miss Enter Sandman. Like, I know that for everybody, it's not a big deal, but I'd be pissed. Matt, what do you think? So, Pearl Jam does this now where they do, like Thursday, Saturday, they will play 90% different, but they'll play like a live or even flow or Jeremy or like there's five songs. Everybody knows kind of a thing. They'll play four out of the five at both concerts. So no matter what, it might be at the beginning or the end, or they'd change it up a little bit, but you're going to get Enter Sandman at both shows. Kind of a deal. If that makes sense. Yeah. One at both shows, because that's no matter what, everybody wants to hear at least one of those or a couple of those five songs that everybody knows. But if I'm going, cause here's the, here's the earlier night in Denver for Metallica. And if I was going to the sphere, I'd want to hear these songs in that concert, right? I'd want to hear, what else?
[20:00]Nothing else matters. Sad, but true battery fuel. Seek and destroy master puppets, by the way, like that's the only five songs I recognize off. Oh, no, no, no. If you listen to creeping death harvester, you would know King nothing. You would know all those. You could make one, you can make one awesome concert instead of two, like, okay. Ones. I'm just a little suspicious. But if you could Russell, would you be pissed if they played enter Sandman both nights? No, I wouldn't, I wouldn't be pissed. No, but that's not what they're doing. Right. No, I get it. But I'm just saying like, it would be okay. Like if they're one that everybody and their grandma knows, if they played those, it would be okay. Oh yeah, for sure. You know, but like you wouldn't want, there's, there's concerts where you can go and you can see that they do the exact same lineup, the exact same way every single night. Right. And so that's where you get. That's where you get bands like Metallica who have a big enough arsenal and are good enough musicians to just kind of roll with most of their catalog, which
[21:00]Is great. I just think, I think two nights in Metallica and you hear four new songs, I have a 72 seasons. I'd be like, but for like a three hour concert, when you have two songs to like grab a beer or go like, yeah, that's true. This is like a, it's like a wrestling show, Rob. You got to have the popcorn match. You got to bring people down to bring them back up. That's a great. That's a great point. And speaking of popcorn match, Russell, I was thinking a lot about your theories about the theater this week. You're down with it, aren't you? You're in. I'll tell you what, I'm going to start the rolling guns this week. I went to Hamilton this week. In fact, I've been to the theater now three times in the last two weeks. I went to Hamilton. It might be, and I'm just going to say this. I, when I moved to New York, Hamilton was big thousand dollar tickets. Didn't want to go. And in fact, I was very negative to anyone who liked Hamilton. I was like, why? I, I just was like, everybody liked it. So I was like, I don't, and it was too expensive. I didn't want to go see it. I didn't want to get caught up into it. And Lin-Manuel Miranda is corny, but it's corny.
[22:00]Yeah. He's, he's a corny person. There's no doubt about that. But this might be the single greatest piece of art I've ever seen in my entire life. And that covers everything. This might be, if you have not seen Hamilton, you need to go see it. It's one of the most fantastic things I've ever seen. I was in an, and I'll tell you what. We might as well listen to it. Put on the room wear. It happens. There we go. Pull that one up. 45 minutes too long. I thought it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. And it was still 45 minutes. It's too long, isn't it? It's too long. We don't, and it wasn't even that. And I was thinking about you guys. Cause there wasn't even that many reprises. Okay. But my wife got tickets for a friend herself, the two girls and I, we had to get three tickets in the box seats. So Russell, we, the girls and I were sitting up in the box. I saw that. Oh, it was great. You know, you can't see the show as well. Cause the whole left side of the stage, we couldn't see, but when singers are underneath us singing, like literally six feet away, you could hear them singing.
[23:00]You could see everything. It was absolutely fantastic. The only problem is Russell, when you're up in a box where everybody in the theater is looking at you. If you move at all, that's why you, that's why you cut your eyebrows like that. Cause you know, everybody's looking at my wife's like park. Yes. Yeah. Now in here, Hamilton, I'm sorry, bro. I got it guys. I'm telling you. I'm telling you every, my wife is like, oh, I can see you're really enjoying the show. Like that's weird for everybody in the theater to be looking, but it's, it's, it's too long. And you sound stupid telling that to people, but it just is. But I did think of you Russell. Cause I was like, what if in the middle of this, some guy was coming through selling cotton candy? You know what I mean? Your sponsor could work. I like, can you imagine like the hits, like the slam, what's the song where they're slamming each other back and forth? I don't remember what that one is. The 10 rules or 10 something, like the crowds like going crazy, like a golf shot. Russell, how many times have you seen it? Me?
[24:00]I've only seen it once in person, but I've listened to it. Yeah it. I love it. Wow. That was my rolling going. Another night at the theater for me. If we ever do a live show, could we have a cold open where Aaron and I do the two parts of this song? It's the cold open. Yes. I'm sure everybody would. That's what everybody's been. Listen, if you want that, leave us a text and saying, hold open Russell and hashtag Russell. Hashtag Aaron. That's what we need to see. I do have to say this to Russell. The other part of the problem of the theater show started at seven. Didn't get home till 1030. Too late. It's too late. Then I can't go to bed at 1030. The show started when you were home by 1030 and you're mad. Yeah. That's not that bad. Yeah, I was. I it's too late. I should start at six and I should be home by 930. Oh, you cannot have a show start at six. 100%. I want to show. If you go to like a show or a concert that starts at six, you should be still up on a Wednesday. That's like a,
[25:00]That's like a kid's concert. You can't get anywhere. Guys, I'm starting to get that old person stuff like eating dinner at like 430. I'm kind of like, I get this. Rob, what time are you done with school? Like one 30. How the hell are you going to get anywhere by six o'clock? Well, actually I had science Olympia at parents night where I invited all the parents to come in because they always compliment me. So I do it every year. So I kind of had to rush out to get down to the theater on my bike, but I was able to do it. No problem. So. Well, That's my rolling going, Aaron rolling going, how's it going? It's going great. I had a really nice night tonight. Wallace went up for this play date at Miles's house and, Anna and I went for a hike and they went out for a cocktail and some tacos. And, it made me think what is, so what is something that you would interrupt a stranger's dinner for? Like I'm like, I, I, I don't have all of my dad's tendencies. My dad was loving to talk to anyone all the time. Can make friends with anybody. I don't always talk to strangers,
[26:00]But I will, if someone's wearing Iowa, anything that says Iowa on it. Yeah. Anything that says Iowa state, obviously I'm going to go talk to those folks. But I do tend to draw the line at would I interrupt someone's dinner? I tend not to do it. What kind of place let's picture it. What kind of restaurant? Here's what happened. It's an outdoor, it's an outdoor, it's a, it's a, it's a counter service taco spot. So you're outside and then you grab your seat and sit down. So here's what happened. We're getting tacos. And I looked over and there's a gentleman wearing the most beautiful jacket I have ever seen in my life. It's like a starter style athletic jacket, but it's like, it's in the old, like Padres colorway. And it says taco Johns across the back. All right. And I didn't go talk to him. I was like, okay. When I, I was like, he was between me and the door. So I thought, all right, I can get up and ask him on the way out.
[27:00]Hey man, where did you get this jacket? Yes. That style, the kind of satiny sheeny kind, but it's, but it was taco Johns across the back. There's a lot more taco Johns gear than you would think. And now I'm never, I'm never gonna live this down the rest of my life. I didn't go ask the guy where he got his jacket. No, none of these are, you're pulling up Rob's. The listeners at home, Rob's pulling up all sorts of images of taco Johns jackets. None of them look like the one that I saw. And I passed on the chance to go talk to this guy because I didn't want to interrupt this dinner. And I don't know. I feel like I regret it. It's a custom made taco Johns jacket. And you didn't, cause you know, there's no, where's the, where's the closest taco Johns to California? I've never seen one in California. No, I think taco Johns locations. I think they're just in the Midwest. When's, when's the last time Aaron, by the way, I went to taco Johns a couple of years ago. Cause I was like, girls, you got to see, you got to get a six pack and a pound. Yeah. The potato. You got to get them. Potato lays are so good. And then I was kind of like, not as good as I thought.
[28:00]There's one in Hutchinson where Anna's parents live. And I, but I've still, I've never gone. It's been, man, it's for me, it's been since high school. I've been since high school. Yeah. What about you, man? What's the, man, what's the last time you've been to a taco Johns? I don't, this might sound, I don't, well, do they have a, does taco Johns have a tater tots or whatever? Yeah. Potato, but it's paid it. No potato lays. They're called the accent, the little like silver dollar ones or whatever. Yeah. It's been a long time. It's probably 20 years kind of. Yeah. Those are good, but it's probably, it's been a long time if you ever make your way out there. Yeah. That's it. Cause that's the problem with taco Johns is they're always like, they always look like a semi truck trailer fell off. And somebody was just like, ah, let's make a restaurant out of this. You know what I mean? Like you kind of go in there and it's the kind of place where they're always kind of surprised when you go in. I mean, those tacos are gross. My siblings used to get the ones that were just, they would get into the soft tacos and just meat and cheese. And the meat was like, what the hell is that? And I think I was like, ambitious enough that I would add sour cream, but they didn't meet and cheese only,
[29:00]It was like, yeah, it's crazy to live in a time where like Chipotle and taco Johns exist in the same world. You know what I mean? Like, Oh, this is cause to me, I was always like, Oh, this is what Mexican food is. It's taco. You know what I mean? And then it's like, Oh wait, you could have like fresh stuff. Now to Aaron, of course, Mexican food, the food is like, what if we ate all the guts? You know what I mean? What if this food could taste me? That would be really good. This is pretty I had tame stuff tonight though. I had a, we, and actually we almost ordered one of everything on the menu. And then I ordered one of everything except for one. And then I realized, man, I should have just, I should have had that personally very day too, just to round it out. But what was the best taco you had tonight, Aaron? You know, actually the tostada was really good. The tostada was with gigante beans and they did something to the tostada. It was almost like they're going for a, did you say giant beans with giant beans? And they did something to the tostada. Like it was like dipped in seasoning where it was like, it was definitely a Dorito type flavor. Like they were going with like a Dorito thing.
[30:00]Can you imagine being a hobo and the hobo next to you has a gigante bean? You know what I mean? Like he's cutting up that gigante bean. He pulls out a gigante bean out of his bindle. He's cut it up. He's like, he's like, Oh, muy vino. You know, they mucho vino that I have so much being here. This is a gigante bean. I got to look at how big is a gigante. Is it just, is it really a giant? It's like, it's just like the size of your thumb. Reminds me of China. I never mind. Go look that up. That's a good joke. If you don't know, you saw the playboy. All right. Yeah. The tostada was good. Also the barbacoa was good. And then they do this charred broccoli taco with peanuts. Also, that's really nice. So shout out to taco. Okay. All right. Nope. That gets it. I knew if I asked, I knew if I asked, I would get some fucked up shit. And I knew you're going to hide it till the end. Aaron, say that last taco again. It's a charred broccoli taco with peanut salsa. Okay. Come on, Russ. Oh, you're just messing. It's for real. It's good. Dude, they can't take it off the menu. People love it. They try to take it off the menu. They cannot.
[31:00]Is it like a natural stir peanut salsa where you've got to like stir that first or not? No, it's like, it's like a salsa macho with peanuts in it. There's, there's nothing that's right about that taco. Like if you said to me like, Hey, broccoli tastes incredibly, really harsh. You know what I mean? Like I have to put so much cheese on that. It's like, how can I make it harsher? Oh, I know I could char it. And then, okay. Salsa, man, I love salsa. You know what goes well with salsa? Peanuts. I'm going to make salsa out of peanuts. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life. Russell, you sit down broccoli, charred broccoli. I mean, that's the thing, Russell, you want to come visit me? I might not even be there or you got to visit Aaron and you're having to charred broccoli and it's also, and I'll kiss you. I'm going to throw that into the mix. Think about it. No, that seems. Yeah, there you go. Hard to pass up. Anyway, that's how it's rolling going with me. I had a really nice night and now I'm here talking to you guys. Can't, can't really beat it. How's it? That's delicious. How's it rolling going with Matt? I'm good. Rob, I need you to play a song for me. That was good. I'm sure we've played this before,
[32:00]But can you play waiting room by Fugazi for me? Classic punk. So the only reason we're playing this is because this is, if you ever see them play this live, like they played like kind of like this. Danky club. Maybe you can get it. This is just the album version. So you can find it live, Rob, just so we can watch it because it is gangster as hell. Watching all of these skinny weight right there. I am, this is amazing, but I read, that I did almost no research for this, This week's album, but gang of four inspired bands like Fugazi and Nirvana and stuff like that. And I reminded me to go back and listen to some more Fugazi. So, just watch this when they start kicking it up. But, I, I, I think I told you guys famously, like, I don't know, seven, eight years ago. Now I had dinner with Rory McIlroy. Whoever told you that story? You didn't. What? Yeah. You know,
[33:00]It's a steakhouse in Charlotte and at seven o'clock I sat down and the table next to me, Rory McIlroy sat down. So I I had dinner with Rory McIlroy. Nice. So, another one I could add to that. I, I, went to a Timberwolves game with 50 cent the other day. Matt, did you ask him where he got his taco? John's jacket? I did not. I did not ask him. Hey, where'd you get that? Where'd you get that green jacket? Yeah. Did you stay for the whole game? Stay for the whole game. So like I got, I sat in the best seats I'd ever sat in. Was that a hookup bad or what? Yeah. You get those. Yeah. I mean like a word was a work thing, right? A work guy brought some people broker kind of a scenario. And so we're sitting there and we get there early. So we can go to the back, the Lexus club, whatever, have dinner, all this. And we thought like, Oh, well, maybe we'll go out and watch warmups with this close kind of a thing. So right at game time, all of a sudden there's four seats right in front of us. And then just in walks my good buddy, Curtis, 50 cent Curtis and sits down right there.
[34:00]And it was unbelievably fun to watch a game where everybody kind of like you, Rob, because you're in the fancy seats at the club. Everybody, no matter what was staring at 50 cent. Is it 50 cent? Or do we say 50 cent? How do we say we can say 50 cent? He's getting older. Speaking of 50 cent. Yeah. Okay. So 50 cent, everybody is watching him. And then of course the DJ is playing. Every other song is a 50 cent song. So then everybody is over there watching them. So yeah. Can I ask a dumb question? Does he live in Minnesota? No, but he's got a, alcohol company. Yeah. Partnership with, the Timberwolves. So he's got, he's like plastered all over the, what? This is where you really got to be careful. I don't think, he drinks. I'm not, I don't know how I feel about people who own alcohol companies. He doesn't because he, he ordered a ginger ale and then his posse ordered a, they called it an ant. I think they called it an ant. And there's some drink that's like ginger ale and some,
[35:00]I'll have to, I should have known this, but I'll, I'll text the broker dude who I went with. Cause he ended up getting one. Cause they ordered four and they only needed three. So then the guy just handed it back to the guy, Brett. He was, he did have, I'd be nervous about ordering a drink that 50 cents brew ordered that you get it. And it's like $300, but probably by that time, 50 cents is probably more financially responsible, right? If he's a co-owner of some company, he's had some ups and downs. I would think so. But here's the thing. So he's a spot and he's there and he's doing all this shit. He's doing like the six, seven thing. I think I sent you guys the video where I was in the background and stuff like that. And he's doing all this stuff. So then of course. And then, one of the guys next to me said that he looked at his phone and a rod was texting him like meet me at halftime back here kind of thing. So like clearly he's hanging out with the right people kind of thing. Right. So at the end of the game, the waiter comes up and talks to like his handler or one of his guys like,
[36:00]Ah, yeah, I just need you to cover this. You know they basically ordered like six drinks and they came out twice and both times the guy just handed him a hundred dollar bill to the waiter as like a tip kind of a thing. And they still came out and charge the fuckers for the drinks. Like the most attacking thing ever. Like somebody, you'd think that somebody would say, it's fine. Like, Hey, how about just let 50 cent in his crew? Just have a couple of drinks since he's a sponsor. I mean, you would think a celebrity at a Minnesota Tribbles game would just get Whatever they want all the time. Why? I mean, you're making more money by having him come. They were not abusing the privilege in any way, Matt. They were just watching. Not even close. Yeah. I think they come up. A couple of times a year. Cause I had another buddy who was sat in those seats before with the same guy. And he had the same pictures that I had in the background trying to, it's, it's hard to tell somebody that wasn't alive in like 1999 or whatever,
[37:00]You know, how big 50 cent was. It was like get Richard right. Died trying. Was that the big album or which one was, yeah, it was get Richard. I tried and he had those mixtapes that came out first. And I remember reading Rolling Stone, magazine and interview with quest love. And it was like, what are you listening to right now? Like name five things. And quest love was like, I'm listening to this new 50 cent mixtape. Cause I had how to rob on it, where he was talking about how he was going to rob every famous person. And it blew my mind. Cause I was like, well, I didn't know quest love who was like the king of like conscious, You know, organic hip hop. Like if he's like in 50 cent, I should check it out too. And it turns out like, Oh, if you can rhyme, it's fun. He was massive. And then in the club came out and it was just massive. I mean, he was one of the few, two artists where you're like, should I get shot? You know what I mean? Like, should I be getting shot right now? Like, is that a good thing in my life? Cause everybody was like, Oh, he's really been shot. He's a real deal. Cause we've seen so many gangster rappers that I think we're, we, we thought we're pretending. And then some actually did get shot and it turned out to actually not be
[38:00]Too cool. It's actually a big bummer. So there you go, man. I took your fun story and really hit the brakes on it. Aaron style. Yeah. Hit the brakes. But it's fine. It's, it's kind of like sitting first class in an airplane, it ruined me forever. Like it was so fun to watch a game that close with those guys. How athletic they are. And of course I was watching the refs more than I was watching the players. Sometimes my favorite part watching the game. I was looking for Matt down in the corner was when he ran out and super glued himself to the court. He's got to take a stand, man. Yeah. I want, I know I want a picture of a rod as a centaur. Is that a rod or is that Jeter? I can't remember. Matt, what was the best thing you like? What's something you saw a ref do that you were like, Oh, I can learn from that. Yeah. Well, they weren't very good. It was like the B squad kind of a thing. So it was, one of the refs had a really bad game, had two calls,
[39:00]Get challenged. And both of them got overturned. That's like a, that's like a big no, no. If you're a ref, right. And then a couple other missed a couple bad, like tips out of bounds. Like we could see, cause we were so close and stuff. So not a good game for that ref. But what was the kind of the senior ref? Just some of the stuff that he was yelling at people like both ways, meaning like they were both hugging each other kind of thing. Like I'm not calling a foul on either one of you. Like, so I was trying to just hear how they were, They were talking. Cause they keep up, like they keep up with the players. Well yeah, like they're, they're trying to talk them out of things or like stop holding or set good picks or things like that. So they're constantly, they're constantly talking to them more than you'd probably think they are within a game. That's cool. Yeah. Yep. So it was fun. So now I can tell everybody I went to a basketball game was 50 cent. This might be a rich guy's podcast. You know what I mean? I've got box seats, Matt's setting up with 50 cent. Right. Aaron,
[40:00]Aaron's car. I spent $53 on dinner. Ooh, yeah. That'd be, I'm jealous. Taco John's everything but one thing. So, how's the language here? Speaking of ballers, Russell rolling, going, how's it going to the, rolling going? I have two things. First, you guys had mentioned Metallica in the sphere. I think I texted you guys this about a week ago. I saw Metallica was going to be doing a residency of the sphere and I couldn't be more excited. I was thinking I have to go to this. This is if I ever go to the sphere, this is the band I would need to see. This is my Pearl Jam. Matt's a bigger Pearl Jam fan. He goes to season more, but Metallica is the one band when they come to town. I see there's no other band like that for me. So I was looking at it. And I signed up for the pre-sale to try to get tickets or whatever. Russell, sometimes you can get tickets just as well through a pre-sale. Sometimes you get more tickets through a pre-sale, especially if you haven't bought tickets for a while. So there's a pre-sale count. Oh yeah.
[41:00]Yeah. You got to be careful with the pre-sale. You can spend a lot of money on a pre-sale. So do you guys ever do like to try to buy tickets on ticket master where they go on sale or wait in the waiting room or anything like that? Or what's your process when it comes? Most of that. Yes. My, yeah. Well, you gotta be verified. You gotta be a verified fan. So you get the code. A lot of times you can find the code in like Reddit pages and stuff to get in early or you gotta have a credit card or something. So yeah, I mean every time, but I'm a, I'm also like a, and the fan club for Pearl jam and you have to get like the fifth member club or something. Yeah. You know, so like even there, like that's kind of a wild card, whether you actually get tickets or not. In the fan clubs, they only get so many tickets at each show, but yeah, no, I do it all the time. And then, if I don't get them right away, then I wait until an hour before the show and I find a good seat there, but that's me. It may shock you, Russell, that buying, they might be giants tickets. You don't have to like rush to buy those tickets right away. You can kind of be casual and still get pretty good seats, but I have been in charge of buying tickets for Harry styles or somebody else that my daughter wants to go see at Madison square garden.
[42:00]It's the, it's the craziest thing. And of course when the pre-sales always happen, right when I'm in at 10 o'clock on a Tuesday, right when I'm in a meeting. So I'm in, my Dean's meeting and I'm sitting there and they're talking about, I don't know what attendance or something. And I'm sitting there wondering why I'm 60,000th in list in line to get a ticket, knowing that my daughter is going to be mad at me for the rest of the day. Like it's, it's brutal now buying a ticket. That's the thing. If somebody burned down the ticket master headquarters, nobody would be like, Oh, that's too bad. You know what I mean? Nobody'd be like, well, that's, this is too bad. Ticket master is really helpful. They're very good. Hold on. I agree. But then I'm sure there are other ticket services out there, but we also don't want to go back to the world where you have to stand in line physically. Correct. Do I get a ticket? I don't know. I used to have fun doing that. I got second row to Tim McGraw one time, hanging out, going early rainbow foods on 66 and Nicolette and rich,
[43:00]You know, just, West of Nicolette, but East of Rob, that's a cute six of a Lindale kind of by where the old children's palace was and the blockbuster. Yeah. Up from champs, but not too far. The KFC, which is now, we're not saying the KFC. We're not, that's not a thing. That's where that was. The KFC was right next to the KFC. That was the rainbow. I went to, I used to sit in line. Russell, you have not lived until you've gotten a hand job waiting for episode one of star Wars in a tent outside the movie theater. That's there's something to that, right? Is that a line? Well, the freak, yeah, like you're no, but Hey, listen, if you want to hear about that, Aaron, imagine what would happen if it did. Got some fan fiction. I mean, I'm reading Kenobi right now. I'm reading some star Wars fan fiction right now. I don't love it. I'll be honest. Look at that. Oh, look at that. Look at that. Right. When your wife comes in is what you're talking about. The star Wars fan. I already told her I don't like the names and I can't keep track of who's who I'm reading. Kenobi read about Kento Blark. I jump on and it's the first,
[44:00]I don't like the complexity of some of these pre-sales. So this one, you give them your email and it says, we will send you a link with more information. They don't tell you anything more. We will, send you an email by this day. So you're waiting. And in my mind, I'm like, Oh, that's the day they go on sale. That's not, they give you the email, which is the day before the pre-sale. So you're looking for an email on like a Monday pre-sale goes Tuesday. So I get on, I don't really know what to expect. I get on the half hour early. As soon as the link goes, Go through the process, pick the day or whatever. It loads up. I go into the waiting room or whatever. And it's 15,000 people before me. And it slowly goes down. Rob, it goes 15,000. Yes. 14,700. It goes down by like 200 a time. Oh yeah. 300 a time. Oh yeah. It's getting a little closer. It gets down to like 12. Nice. And then all of a sudden it goes from like 12 to seven to three to one. And I'm in, there's nothing available. I think I have decided I am no longer a pre-sale guy.
[45:00]I don't want to go through the hassle of waiting, filling out the stuff. I would rather just buy tickets the day of. If I have to overpay. I'm not down with like adjusting my whole afternoon to try to get a pre-sale ticket only to find out like, Hey, they have standing room tickets only for $700 or nothing. Russell, when you think that you're going to buy a ticket so hard that you get in the pre-sale. Yeah. And then you can't, and you have to all day. You're like, I could have bought a ticket and I wasn't able to, Oh, I got to buy a ticket for something. I got to go home and buy a ticket for something online. You know what I mean? Like that's the worst. That's the absolute worst. And you know what? For all of our female listeners out there, you can get hurt from not buying a ticket that pre-sale. It can actually medically injure you. It's a medical issue. It's something we need to buy a ticket. That's something a genius would say for sure. Yeah. Thank you. Albert Einstein. Jack me off. It's not you ticket master. It's me.
[46:00]I didn't, I didn't get a fulfilled by dream of getting the ticket, but I still plan on going to this concert no matter what I have to be there. I have to see it, but Matt, go ahead. Hey, ticket master. I'm going to go take a nap. I'm going to go take a nap for an hour. Do not come in the room. Wow. If you run out of, if, if those great friends of yours, the movie going club, what are those guys called? Complimentary movie guys, a couple of those guys bail out on you. If your buddy Aaron bails out on you, You know, if the pleasure principle decides he doesn't want to go Manny keeps threatening to go to Vegas, things like that. All those, all your really good friends don't want to go to the show with you. Russell, you call me and you know what? I was thinking about this too. So when I was thinking kind of what my game plan was, if I got in and there were tickets available, what do you do? Do you buy like two tickets assuming upstairs roommate or someone else goes with me? Do you buy four thinking you can get a few people? What,
[47:00]What would you buy? Because they're expensive tickets, right? We're talking a thousand plus for wherever in, in, in the sphere, right? Oh yeah. Okay. But so, and especially when it's in Vegas. So if it's, if it's in your hometown you can make it something happens and you can't travel. You never know. Right. So what would you guys have done for a sphere show? What would you, how many tickets would you have bought Matt to see Pearl jam in the Sphere? I probably won because I know maybe three people that I could talk into paying big money like that. Right. And so probably one, there is something very freeing Russell, I know about going by yourself to a show like that. It's an old guy, pod very freeing in Vegas though. Like what about going to Vegas by yourself? That's different, but like you could be a lot of people by yourself. You know where I'm going after that show,
[48:00]My Lord, nobody will find your body, but you could talk way more people into going to Vegas with you. And then just meeting you after the show, then paying a thousand dollars to go to a concert. Right. But part of the thing with the ticket, it's Matt is it's the ticket price, right? Like that's what Yeah. It's hard to convince people to pay that much. And the other thing is if you're like, Hey, I'll buy four tickets and if I have to, I'm going to sell two on stub hub the day of, then you've got to sit by these fucking losers. I bought a ticket for me on stub hub. That's my greatest fear is that they come in and you look at them. You're like, yeah, you gave me money. Like you couldn't tell them, right? You'd have to like lie and not, I'm also not a big fan of reselling tickets. I resold some tickets to, I don't remember what it was like an Orpheum musical, that show. And it was in ticket master and that it just doesn't give me my money back. It's I've got to like confirm my account and it, and I've got to pay for like a penny or something. I'm like, this seems like a scam. I feel like I'm going to get ripped off, so I don't even do it. It's just sitting there in limbo. Yep. So then the second thing I was going to tell you is I feel like I'm way above
[49:00]Average in the ticket game of, of getting on and having a couple screens and using your phone and all that stuff. So if it ever comes up again, Russell, and you're trying to do that, call me. Cause I'll, I'll we'll, we can be on the phone. Right. And I can be, I can have a couple of screens up as well, trying to get in with you as well. Cause stuff like that, you need some friends to help out. Like I've had Sarah, what, when I was trying to get Pearl jam tickets, I don't know, five years ago, I had everybody at work. I had like five different computers, up there. I think it was to go to Chicago. So like go to Wrigley field, which is fun to see Pearl jam. So yeah, there's, there's people that'll help you Russell. Next time that pops up, I'm gonna, I'm gonna send it to you. I'm gonna send it to you.
[50:00]I explained it the first time you set up multiple screens and then you put Different things on all those screens and you're just in like a pornography Heaven. Have you done that? Speaking of pornography, I've got another thing to share with you guys tomorrow night. I'm going to a show. Wow, so distracted. Rob, if you click on the link I put in the chat, You can take a look at this show. The show is called a nightmare on strip street. What's burlesque? What a burlesque parody. A nightmare on strip street. You're going to a nightmare on strip street. Russell, are you chatting about strip street? Yeah. Guys, You actually it's her and her friends that wanted to go up. I'm taking along with the other three. It's really interesting going on. You better bring two pair of socks. You might lose your socks. Russell, this home. You're going to get the, you're going to get the biggest box of popcorn For this. I mean, look at this. This is Hellraiser Wearing a thong and bending over. Like this is like a dream.
[51:00]And here's your review from Robert with two B's. This show is so fun. The dancers and costumes were amazing. And there was a lot of silly energy in the audience. The woman next to me seemed very scary. Where is this at, Russell? What's the, what's the venue? The Hollywood theater. What a great theater, by the way. So the other one we were going to see, have you guys seen the other one Is the empire strips back? Have you ever seen that one? I did see that because they have a big job and then they have A stripper dancing around and I'm kind of like, I'm kind of in, It's like, yeah, do I want to see Yoda and a thong? Kind of. You know, take off my clothes. I will go to back room with me. Will you? Rob, so what's the, what's the I was at Les Mis the other day is the standard of conduct. Going to be the same for a nightmare on strip street as it was for Les Mis or not. No, I think, first of all, I think they will be selling hot dogs here. They're going to be doing that. But I think you can yell out, large buckets of popcorn.
[52:00]I mean, you can yell out during burlesque thing. Can't you? I've gone to a couple of burlesque shows in New York, but it's, There was more singing, but this looks like it's fun, Russell. This looks like it says it's comedy. It says dance. And I don't know what Russell, which scary person Do you think you're going to get the horniest for? Well, I'm not a big scary movie guy. I didn't, honestly, I knew It was like a comedy burlesque show, but I did not know it was A nightmare one until today. I thought we were just going. I didn't know. I thought it was like the Star Wars one or something. I didn't know which of these movies have you, like, I have not seen Most of these movies that it's parodying. Have you seen them? I can't do the, I can't do the clown, whatever the it, whatever That one is, I can't do that. That's the one I might walk out. That's going to mess you up. Seeing a sexy clown. Oh man, you're going to have all sorts of emotions. Oh, that's going to be so good. I would say If scary person that I would want to see, that would make me a horny. I would say it's the plant from the fuck. What's the show? What's the show's name? I would say it's the plant from Little Shop of Horrors, for sure.
[53:00]If you made that plant sexy, I always had kind of had a thing for that plant. The lips are so big. Aaron, was your, you, do you want to see that scary and sex? None of them. I mean, I, I don't want to be, because all the scary, What about the monster that comes out of the TV and the ring? Okay. The ring. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. But it's the ring monster and it's crawling towards you, but it's got huge jugs. I'm not thinking about that. All right. Tickets are on. Hey, guess what? All right. I'll buy a ticket. You look out the window and Michael Myers is standing at the Neighbor's place and it's dark out and he's got huge jugs. Like it's just better. You know what I mean? Matt, who do you want to see in a horror movie with huge jugs? I do not watch horror movies. I couldn't tell you one person. Yeah. They are my least favorite. You get jigsaw out there, but guess what, Aaron? Huge jugs. Huge jugs. Would you like to play a game? I figure out how to take off my bra. Oh no, I could never do it. I'm going to die for sure. I was the racer back. I don't know how these things work.
[54:00]God, why are these just Velcro? That's a front class. Yeah. Well, it's just a sports bra. Just take it off like a jersey. It makes no sense. Was that everybody? Should I be transitioning here on these jokes? I mean, you take your time. Okay. What's going on? We're getting close to an hour. I didn't know that was everybody. I think we need to say done at the end. Who could possibly keep track of four guys? Rowling's going. I'm going to edit this seamlessly. So it seemed like we ended on a good joke. Okay. A leather face. Can I ask a quick question? Oh, what? I was thinking about the sphere. I knew Metallica was the one I wanted to see. Yes. And part of me was like, who else would I really want to see Metallica? You started thinking about famous bands. You know, Matt's got Pearl Jam. You, Rob's got the Giants band. Yeah. Aaron's probably got some band we've never heard of. But I was looking at like who's got residencies at 2026 of the sphere. So I'm going to list the bands. I want to hear who you guys are big. Let's say I take Metallica, so they're out. Okay.
[55:00]Eagles are already done. Yep. Backstreet Boys. No. No doubt. Yes. Fish. Not anymore. No. New Kids on the Block. Yes. No. No. Borener. No. Guys, Borener has a lot of good songs. Jukebox Hero. Or Karen Leone. I don't know who that is. I know that one. So I was thinking about it like that's the sphere lineup. That's the whole lineup. No. It's for the year. It's always been bad. What's going on? Matt, Russ, you got to go now because the sphere is going to go bankrupt. Okay. Just imagine this. James Dolan losing money on the sphere and going bankrupt. Oh, it makes you laugh so hard. Just thinking about it. I mean, the whole country is going bankrupt. Yeah. I mean, oh geez, are we sitting on a house of cards right now? Yeah. Like we're out. Aaron, I'm making fun of James Dolan. I'm having fun. For now. Yeah. That's what he's going to be fine. We're not. Who is going to the sphere? Is it just like 45 year old horny divorces? Like what is that band lineup? You know what I mean? Like new kids on the block.
[56:00]Who's, who's wants to pay? To be fair, it does kind of hit a little bit of a demographic that can afford to go. Right. But she like backstreet boys and all that. I mean, that's, that's hitting. Right. It's hitting your wife's disposable income. Right. But you can't even get like an Adele or like a pink or like a, I don't like, It just seems like there could be some cooler people to be at the sphere than, I mean, guys, new kids on the block. Have you seen them lately? They're, they, we, they're older than us. I don't know if you've noticed that like, Sarah and some of our hardcore listeners, They go every time they're in down there, They come to like Mystic Lake and stuff like that. Then I had to look inwards is Metallica on the level of like the Backstreet boys and no doubt they're way bigger than those, Like those like old bands, right? Matt, what's the deal with no doubt? You said you wouldn't see them. Yes. She's gone. She's gone pretty Christian. Oh really? Oh, okay. Yeah. You know what? I tried to call her and ask her about it the other day,
[57:00]But guess what? Great to voicemail. I was in the spider webs for sure. You know what? Nailed it. Talking about the album. Guys, I pulled this out of that. Did she call you back? Did you leave a message? I did leave a message. I know she didn't call me back. Russell, I think Metallica is bigger. I mean, but I don't know. We're 40 year old men. You two is there. You two is huge. There you go. Right? I don't, I'm not a big fan. Dead and company to have the grateful dad that kind of a thing. That's huge. This feels like a big step down. Fish is unbelievable. Fish has, what are they at the four days around New Year's in New York? I mean, like fish is unbelievable. I mean, are they just not going to sell like would Kendrick just not sell enough Tickets there? Like why don't we have, why aren't the biggest name people going to the Sphere? It must be a real pain in the ass. You know what it is. They must not make much money. The artists don't make as much money as the sphere. And I mean, it's part of like the dead and co going, right? Is the whole visual of it. And same thing with YouTube and all that. So I don't know. Kendrick might be able to have to something, but you're in Vegas.
[58:00]You're at the sphere. Second night. You taking a gummy. You taking something to really get that show going. What do you think? I don't think so. I, I think I may be having a few drinks, but I'm not getting going Overboard. I think I got to remember that. If you spent a thousand, you got to have your wits about you a Little bit. Yeah. Oh, that's true. Cause that does sound like something I would do is be like, Oh, I spent a thousand bucks. Well, how was the concert? I have no idea. I was blessed. I missed. Yeah. I missed everything and I woke up in the bathroom and it was The guy with the scream mask was there, but you know what Was different about him, Aaron? Huge jokes. Oh, Aaron. All right. Listen, you get four art students in leads. Okay. In 1977, they get together and say, we're going to make a band. That's going to miss the, mix the communist manifesto with Power chords. And we're going to throw in a little reggae in there. This is a post. What? I don't know. I think these punk bands, every description of them is
[59:00]Like, it was punk and they incorporated reggae. And then like the reggae is light on every UK UK. Yeah. Like if it was light on the reggae to me, I think they Just have to, anytime there's syncopation, they're like, oh, This one's my style. I mean, I'm like, I'm certain these guys were listening to Reggae, believe that for sure. But I'm like, oh, cool. I mean, like maybe there's somebody like some fun and then I, it's fun. I like the music, but it's much more artsy and educational Than reggae to me. That's the way of saying like, it's the red hot chili Peppers. If they had no real. I do get some chili peppers vibes from these guys. That's a good. That's the lead singer of this produced the first Chili pepper album. Okay. Wow. There's a lot. There's a little fact for you. And Flea says that this album changed his life and It made him. I like the album. I could straight up like, I'm not even good at this. Where's the reggae? And I will. So this album is kind of shocking when you put it on Because it's like, there's a baseline throughout this Album. That's crazy. The bass player is crazy.
[1:00:00]Good. There's so much syncopation and they are singing the Whole time about like, Rob, I believe that's a Billy, the bass line, not a baseline. Wow. Hey, you guys, everybody, Matt told you guys to Watch the singers short on Netflix. The Oscar nominated short. Did you watch that? Hell yeah, I did. Billy Bass makes an appearance. Yeah. Isn't that unbelievable? That's based on a short story from like 1850. Russian short story from 1850. Isn't that awesome? Yes. It's on Netflix. What is the singers? Right? Or is it? Yeah. If you search singers on Netflix, it'll come up. It's unbelievable. It's such a great. Can you name an item where a penis has been stuck inside of It as a joke and then not as a joke more than a Billy Big mouse bath? You know what I mean? What? Hey, why are you making noise during your hour and Long nap? You know, take me to the river. Yeah. Rob got caught noodling again in the corner.
[1:01:00]You just go, your wife comes to the Big bus baths on the nightstand next to you. I don't know what it's doing there. Listen, this is, they release a single, Called damage goods. And it goes to number one on the indie charts. The band gets on the cover of any M E. Okay. They're the first unsigned band ever on the cover of The enemy magazine. And basically, they come out with this album and It kind of, it blows up on the indie scene. And then they say, Hey, we want to send you on top, Top of the pops, the show, but the song about Rubbers, you got to change the lyrics. And they said, absolutely not. We're a punk band. We're anti-consumerism. We're never going to change the lyrics. About 30 years later, Aaron, Guess where one of their songs ends up on a Microsoft ad. Okay. No. So when Bill Gates wasn't, yeah, When Bill Gates wasn't busy trying to figure out how To give his wife medicine surreptitiously, He was buying this album and putting it on like A connect, an ad for the Microsoft connect, Which was a Xbox thing you could talk to a
[1:02:00]Losers, by the way. And so we got very political songs on this Because the UK is kind of going through Thatcherism at the time. And they said, when they went in to make this album, First of all, they were all living on a houseboat together. Did we do that for our summer retreat? Should that be our summer retreat? We live on a houseboat and then record. 100%. That sounds like an awesome idea. Russell, what do you think staying on a houseboat, The four of us? I think retreat would be great. Oh, it'd be so fun. And they said, we're not going to jam at all. We're going to plan everything out. We're going to take rock music, Funk music and pop music, dismantle it and use Whatever we want in there. And basically the entire album it says is built on one idea. Everything is political. When you go out on a date, when you watch a show, When you watch, watching the news, Everything is political. It's all capitalism. It's all, so you can imagine these guys were super fun, Really fun to hang out with. Yeah. Yeah. They were a good time. And the crazy thing is, is that like, this is 1979. It's back when we think like, oh man, Life was so much better than like it wasn't all fucked up Like it is now. And then these guys are like, this shit is totally fucked.
[1:03:00]And you're like, oh, okay, this album is on. Remember that Cobain 50 best albums list we had? This is one of the albums on there. I think the slits around there and these guys are too. And Michael Stipe said basically he was copying at the whole time He was singing in REM that he stole a ton of stuff from the, The gang of four. And I'm just going to say this is apropos of nothing. It's produced by their tour manager. A guy named Rob war. Oh, W a R R something to think about. Yeah. Just a guy. I just, why, why is that? I just think it's interesting to have a guy named Rob war. That's associated with this album. I just think it's kind of cool. There's some to think about. So let's get into entertainment exclamation point. Are the gang of four? First up, we have ether. I got to admit when I started this, I was a little worried. I was like, Oh, is this another noise album? Oh, I don't know. When it's like the descriptions also post punks. I was like, I might like this. So like I like minor threat stuff like that. You know when the best time is to listen to this album, Russell? Probably after you get done with St.
[1:04:00]Angers drum kit. That's got, that's got the, that's steely drum sound. When I'm biking home from work on a Friday through New York city, I've got this on the headphones. Oh, it's fucking rips. I feel like I'm a bike messenger in a movie. Yes. Awesome. This is the only the second best song named ether of all time. However, what's the first best? Oh, Russ Aaron. Is this a mini list? Yeah. Yeah. Many lists. This one. All right. We've got a little mini list here. Okay. And sometimes Aaron, Many lists can actually be just as good as a regular size list. Right. Like it's a little mini one can also still get the job done. Yes. Okay. All right. What's the song's name either? What's the best song named ether? Ether by Nas. This was part of the Nas J. Yes. Yes. We did this. I remember this. This is the one where he was, He just killed somebody. Right. Basically lyrically.
[1:05:00]He kills. Yeah. I mean, It became a verb. Yeah. He told Jay-Z. He had. Oh, hold on. Jay-Z and Ty Bo Ho. Aaron, I love it. All right. I got one. I got one. The takeover. That's got another one. What songs named ether? There's a guy named leaf. Valorbeck, Who I don't know where he's from or anything, But he, He's on my like short list of like, I can put on. Wow. Into the ether. This is a great. Russell questionable. Counting into the ether is a song about ether. It was on my short list. Yeah. And sometimes short lists could be just as good. This was on some TV show, But they smell sometimes. They smell so bad. This is nice. Well, go forward a little bit. Oh If he plays with Gregory, It says here he plays with Gregory Allen,
[1:06:00]Isaac off. That's one of my favorite Pandora artists. I love him. Gregory Allen, Isaac off so good. We've got a little David Gray in the voice. I like that. Man, this is my jam. This is my Pandora jam. I love it. Guy is great. Did you think growing up that more people, You're going to see more people get ethered. You know what I mean? Like a rag in the nose. They pass out. I thought that would, I would see that at least once in my life. I didn't think that I would stop, Drop and roll a lot more times than I have. That's true. How many times have you done it? Zero. Yeah. Very little stopped dropping and rolling. What do you think you've done the most of? Probably stopping, right? And I got to say, I've probably rolled more than I've dropped, Especially in Jiu Jitsu. No, I'm rolling all the time. Yeah. I was going to say It doesn't get enough credit to drop the drop. A lot of people just, hey, if you just, You got to stop. Yeah. You got to roll. You know, the drop is pretty key. Yeah. Drop and roll. It sounds a lot like having sex with me actually. All right. What other safety precautions have you ever had?
[1:07:00]Do you like the Heimlike maneuver? Yeah. I had to do it on my kid. Really? Yeah. Somebody gave the kid a piece of bacon when they were too young. Me. And I was in a smash burger. And so I had to hit her on the back and sanely hard. So she coughed up this piece of bacon. And so what it looked like was I hit my kid as hard as I could. And then she started crying. And then I gave her Diet Coke to have her be quiet. So the whole restaurant wouldn't be better. So instead of me saving her life. That song for the mini list was on shrinking season two, Episode seven, Which is a pretty darn good show. Pretty darn good show. If anybody's not watching that's a good one. How about you, Russell? You had to save anybody's life before? Got a guy's neck open, stick a pen down there. I don't think so. No. Oh, wow. They're lungs collapse. You got to put it. You got to make a draw next. Yeah. Only one I had was a, One of my, My niece was young. She's probably like two. And we were floating around on some water toys.
[1:08:00]We were getting out of the water. And I stepped up when I stepped up, My tube kind of flipped up and tipped her over. She was wearing a life jacket, But she wasn't even down for like an eighth of a second. But I grabbed her by the life jacket and lift her up like a beast. That's bad. And then she looked around and started crying. And my sister looked at me. Her mother looked at me from up by the beach And just kind of gave me the mother look of your push. You're pushing it. Uncle Russ. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I did save a life. That's tough. How to save a life. Next up, Just like a lot of Bing searches I have, Natural's not in it. This was using a Microsoft ad. How many, How long are you doing waiting to say that joke? That's a good joke. Thank you. That's a good one. Right? Right when you, Right when you saw the title, Do you think of it? I mean, That's kind of what naturals mean now, right? You know, Do you think of anything else when you hear the word naturals?
[1:09:00]Are you thinking about anything besides big wonder boy? Oh, Okay. Maybe it's just me then. Reminds me. I told you about that guy who ran the taco shop in Rochester. We'd go there in high school. You'd ask him behind the counter. Hey, Do you have any hangers? They'd pull out a picture of a naked woman. He goes, How about these hangers? We were like, I thought you called them heavy hangers or something. No, That sounds disrespectful. Russell, I just called them regular hangers. Yes, Men are bad. Yeah. Yeah. That song is anti-consumerism. Yeah. It was using a Microsoft ad. What's the last thing you bought, Rosie by anything recently? The last thing I bought. Yeah. Something you bought where you're like this, This rips. I'm glad I bought this. I bought new snow pants. I bought, I wanted to, Yeah dude. Living. Okay. Bro, We're a ski family now. And sports basement was having a 30% off all snow gear sale. And I got some heli hands. Nice.
[1:10:00]Had some heli hands and snow pants, 50% off. And then the last time we were skiing, It was 56 degrees, But I still wore the snow pants. And it was rad. Just when you think Aaron's not part of the rich guy podcast, All of a sudden he just announces, We're a ski family. Aaron hates money. Aaron wants to get rid of money as fast as possible. Just light it on fire. Just get out of my, Get this shit out of my face. But I told you guys now, Cause now we stay at the Spring Hill sweets and truckie And they got a waffle maker. And unfortunately, Every time I make a waffle with a hotel, I think I'm doing 69 with Rob. So that's where I'm at. That was one of the greatest texts I've ever got. He goes, I just made a waffle at the hotel. I was like, well, Because waffling Aaron, Really though, If you remember is waffling is what happens when my, My briefs are too big now. Cause I've lost weight. So my briefs are too big. But I think I did refer to it as well for what you said, Which I'm not going to say. Cause it's, Matt, You buy anything cool recently? Give me something good. You bought into buying a lot of stuff. There was a good shirt at Target. Like a really soft, like button down gray shirt. And I've been, I walk over to Target a lot at work just as like to get out of
[1:11:00]The office. I'd go broke Kind of a thing and grab a, Grab a little lunch and stuff like that. But there's this shirt I've been eyeing for a long time. Nice. Great button down. So I got that. But then I got a new backpack. I'm going to Italy and next week. And I'm not bringing a suitcase. I'm only packing. I'm only packing what I could put in my backpack to me. Not a to me. Nope. I got a really cheap one on Amazon. That was just like a 40. I needed a 40 liter. I needed a 40 liter bag. That's what I did. That's what I figured out. And so I'm testing it out with a $33 backpack. Have you truly tested how many liters you can put in that bag? Nope. I have not Aaron. When it doesn't seem like a 40 liter Aaron, When Russell said to me, Did you think he was talking about an Italian city? Like I did. I was like, I've never heard of that Italian city. Like, no, I remembered his, I remembered his bag search. Oh, that's right. I listened to Russell when he talks on the podcast. I also listen to that guy. Not great men or Russell, You buy anything cool recently? No, I told you guys, I thought the one night condoms back down.
[1:12:00]We don't need to see that. Come on. I told you guys the one night I almost had the pain in my guts To go buy the PlayStation five, But I couldn't do myself. That's so good. Oh, not great men. This is a song arguing against the classic great men theory, Which is that history is determined by great men. They're saying no. This sounds like a little, This sounds like a little shimmy peppers. If you sped it up, right? Yes. For sure. 100%. Yep. And I can hear the funk in it Because it's got the discipline on the one. Yeah. I listened to this album And I texted you guys right away and I said, I like this because I think it's like my nerve rock thing. I like it's like a B 52s. They might be giants. Devo. Like it's bands that you can tell are having fun Making some music, Even though these guys are singing about the most Depressing stuff. Like we see Weezer like in these guys too. Yeah. For sure. For sure. And you know what I realized, man? I think what it is, Is I like songs or bands that use an exclamation point.
[1:13:00]This is called entertainment exclamation point. And so you know what I did? I thought, well, You put together a list. I put together a big list. Okay. My list is way bigger than Aaron's. Okay. Despite what a lot of people think, My list, My list is bigger. My list is getting up in them guts. And let's talk about, This is the greatest music related things that have an exclamation Point. One. I can never. These are the greatest exclamation points. Yeah. These don't, not this one. There's no crash. Just exclamation points. These are the greatest exclamation points in music. Okay. That's what it is now. Like audible exclamation points or written exclamation. Wow. What do you mean? Audible exclamation points. Hi there, Aaron. Yeah. Just people yelling. Aaron only wants yelling. First with the greatest three second pause with the greatest Three second pause in music history. This is one of the greatest exclamation points.
[1:14:00]It's held exclamation point by. Okay. Yeah. The exclamation point takes health and makes it like hell. You know what I mean? Lenin's cousin said this song was written because Lenin Holmes said, oh my God, they named the movie health. Now I've got to write a song called health, which is so much Like what is like being an adult. Like you always thought like businesses knew what they were Doing and that like everybody has an idea of what's going on. And you find out that most of what you do in life is Because somebody said, hey, we should do this. And then they're like, figure this out. Now we got to do stuff. What was I thinking? Yeah. Nobody knows what's going on at any time. I got to do the thing I plan to do. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. This exclamation point in music history. And you know what I think? Do exclamation points just have great starts? Listen to this. One, two, three. Oh. Hey, yeah. That's a great start. By outcast. It was actually written during their Stankonia album
[1:15:00]Recording. And then put out on a speaker box. And they almost did not release us. They almost did not release us as the first single. And he called the studio the last minutes That are their companies that we got to release us As our first single. This is another song where if you were not around, You don't realize how big this song was. We'll talk about it in 17 weeks. If you were not around, you are probably not Listening to this podcast. Oh. I mean, this song was huge. And guess what? I love it every time. It's fun. How many youths who were not around When this came out, do you think Are listening to this podcast? Oh. Our youth's listenership is huge, Aaron. Did this come out in 2006? I have a question for you. Yes. I'll tell you. Do you go into Celebrity Deathmatch? This song? 2003, September of 2003. The job versus Uptown Funk. Who wins the Steel Cage match? This versus Uptown Funk. This wins. This destroys.
[1:16:00]You think so? Uptown Funk is good, Russell. I'll give it to you. But this is like, I don't know, Like kind of a little dirtier, Dirtier little, it just feels more fun. It's the rhythm too. The rhythm is unsuspected here. The rhythm trips you up. Uptown Funk is a song that was written before That has come from other places. This is unique. These lyrics are twice as Uptown Funk. I want you guys, I was just curious. I was listening to the cards the other day And I heard Uptown Funk And I was kind of jamming along Thinking, who doesn't like this song? No. You have to like it, right? You have to like it. That was another one. It was huge. I mean, now when I listen to that song, You know what I think about Russell? Ambling. Yeah. Plays a blackjack. I was like, I gotta get out of there. Plays a blackjack. Bruno Mars. I mean, when you're Bruno Mars And you have all the money in the world And you can do whatever you want, You're so famous. You're having sex. You've never seen an imperfect pair of breasts, Which we've talked about before. There's no such thing. But your breasts you've seen are all like unbelievable.
[1:17:00]And what do you do with your time? You go and play blackjack. I fucking get it. I fucking get that guy. Like crazy. If we all could go out to Vegas and just play blackjack, I think we would. He plays video blackjack. Like we play the video. Oh my God. The saddest thing. Yeah. I need to start with a bigger bank roll of blackjack. I lost patience for it. Start saving now. Start saving 20 bucks. I just was like, I had lost it early. And I was like, I just don't have the patience to wait it out. Your family goes skiing. You go to the chalet and don't get any food. Don't buy anything. Okay. That literally will fund. If you go, if you do that four times, You would have the biggest bank roll by double that you've ever had. Well, the bet it's, it's still just mental, right? It's still the emotional part of it. Like, Oh, this money is just being lit on fire here. That's God. You make me want to go one weekend a year. You light your money on fire. You got to see just one weekend. You have see tomorrow. Oh, you can't be excited for gambling. Aaron, if there's one thing I love it's sitting at Science Olympiad and while the kids are taking a test, I text Matt and Joe and we start putting in beds,
[1:18:00]Especially when you're out of state. And they have the casino on the app Rosie. And I'm playing craps on my phone while kids are taking a test About circuits. God damn. I feel like it never happened before. He keeps asking me when he can play all craps on my phone. I'm like, you're not going to like it. Like you're not going to enjoy it. Oh, daddy. I'm playing the don't come line. You're playing the don't come line. That's crazy. That's a roller. No, everybody hits you. God dang. Yeah. Don't be a dark side. Don't be that guy though. You're up a hundred credits. You might have a system here. Let's get it. Let's get to Vegas. The third most famous exclamation point in music history. And again, Tell me that exclamation point does not make a great start to a song. Wham exclamation point. I can't hear it. Can you guys? This is the band. Yeah, we can hear it. Oh, I can't hear it. Can't hear this. I'll sing it for you. Okay. This is to be fair.
[1:19:00]Wham. The exclamation marks on the band name. Yeah. So it's Wham is covered perfectly. And think about it. Wham. Kind of a lame name. Wham with exclamation points. I love it. Find me up. Next up, The fourth greatest exclamation point in music history. The beach boys album named party exclamation point. Oh, with the hit single. But, Yeah. All three Where's the exclamation point on the album party. Each boys party. It's called, Which is kind of fucking sweet. Like if you go to a beach boys party, You're like I don't know, But if it's a beach boys party exclamation point, Think about this, Russell, You get a handwritten note. I want to have sex with you exclamation point. I want to have sex with the exclamation point. Fuck yeah, This is going to be great. There's an exclamation point. Yeah You said like question mark that's a big question mark. I want to have sex. What would be the worst
[1:20:00]Functionation that could be there at the end. You know what would be good actually in the lip-sies That's after there Yeah, I would have sex. Yeah, I was with you I would say what Russell what I hate during sex It's not my colon You know what I mean, you just want coal First of all, I'm at a truck stop. Am I colon next up? Finally the best exclamation points in music history There's a band called tick tick, but you know how you spell it Exclamation point exclamation point they came out tick tick. I never knew that they are a punk band That is comprised from the bands. This is so great. Yeah, most block liquor black licorice and pope smashers Those three by rich is great. Those three bands combined and made tick tick exclamation point
[1:21:00]And here's a song me and Giuliani down by the schoolyard. Oh, which is a song about Giuliani made a bunch of rules About dancing at cabarets and so they released this song to protest. Are we an ATD? This is oh, I like the danceable rock. This is nice a little LCD sound system folks This is tick tick exclamation point, and this is what year is this from like 2018? Giuliani down by the schoolyard. Let's see 2007 I don't know. I can only tell when it's really send you dude. I can't tell any facts folks That was the greatest exclamation points in music history was another that was great Awesome
[1:22:00]Exclamation point. Hey you drive out here often Dash My seven cold semi-colon off seven go diamond say seven colon here and be careful Next up we've got return one of my favorite punctuation is yes I'm a big alt zero one five one the long dash. Oh the m-dash M-day you're you're bringing it. Whoop What do you mean? Yeah? You have to type alt zero one five one to get an m-dash. Yeah, that's not how you do it I don't know. I don't think I use those chef Russell exposing himself as a PC guy Wow This is damage goods. This was their single I talked about getting released Today my kid comes out and goes dad my closet broke and I go in and the bar and the wood It was attached to all ripped down. Oh, there's my weekend. You guys got anything that needs fixing Well, what is that? Yeah, we get new porch Rob saying that grosses weekend means he's
[1:23:00]Hiring the guy downstairs the maintenance band while he plays video games Our dishwasher is not working. Well, and everybody says that cleaning the filter is really disgusting So we are having the front desk guys clean our dishwasher filter not disgusting If you saw what we're paying in monthly fees you would have them come up and fluff your pillows every night I'll tell you right now they could What do you got what do you need fixing around your house, man We need to do dishwasher to ours about 10 years old. No, so let's probably next on the list. Yeah, well Rosie I need some cocker in the kitchen. Oh, come on. I'm not joking. He white cock or black Gray cock You know what actually gray works just fine, and there's actually nothing wrong with it Okay, and that smell is normal Who's like are you really gonna ask these four guys a home improvement question and not expect to hear about some cock
[1:24:00]That's true. It's like if you have a stud detector, you're not gonna rub it over yourself and find the stud. Yeah on your penis. Oh Look at the stud just take that joke too far Just it's just too far. Hey stud detector Just jamming it down his pants. Oh God. What the joke is it? Oh Oh high-impact drill Only lust return the gift I had a humiliating incident at work. I had to go get my haircut Now of course I get my haircut only at one place up in Harlem the guy opened up the shop for me once 30 bucks for a haircut I tip him 30 bucks. Okay, famous. So I need 60 bucks. Here's the problem. I Came home one night the song's called return the gift by the I came home one night. I put my wallet down somewhere And I thought to myself, uh-oh, I better be careful. That's not normally where I put my wall. You don't
[1:25:00]Yeah, and then that's the last thing I have no idea where that was in my house Put not find my wallet put just no idea where it was have no way to get cash. Okay I'm at work And I have to send a text to my co-workers. Hey I'm fine. I'm right. I'm fine. There's nothing wrong with me But do any of you guys have 60 bucks I could borrow I Can't find my wallet and I need to go get a haircut So the man nobody was surprised at this Everybody thought it was very funny, which I didn't get and then the One of the teachers you tell him 60. Oh because you were gonna tip, but you didn't like inflate how much you were gonna like You know And a little bit for daddy, too I mean like what's the lowest you'd be embarrassed to see your haircut costs? Like my haircut I go like an old barbershop. It's 20. It's 20 bucks. I tip 20
[1:26:00]So it's 40 it's the same thing without the New York inflation, but like I give you was like, hey I need 12 bucks for my hair. No, I said 20 that would raise some eyebrows Oh, the guy was like, oh 60. Where do you go that it's 60? That's kind of expensive. And I said, oh, I'm Big tip. Oh that you drop the party big Nice hair, but then on that but then on the text chain. I somebody said oh, do you still need money? I said no, what's his name came through I said But he did make me beg for it Which is really strange and then I realized that's not a joke like for everybody and I was like Oh, did I just accuse a co-worker of making me beg for money? You know what I would have done Rob I would have Ponzi scheme the shit out of that Just kept borrowing from all of them and then paying them back with each other's money. Oh, hey, what if I told you? What if I told you I could double this money I've got this great idea me and Bruno Mars. We've got this great idea. It's awesome You guys are you guys asking co-workers for money? Would you ever do that asking co-workers for cash? Oh my god? No, no What I need cash. I mean if you needed it you I don't see the Harbets
[1:27:00]Hey, does anyone have 20 bucks? So your co-worker asks you for cash Russell. You're not judging them Yeah, I think people don't use cash enough. I think people don't use it enough. Yeah, Matt You asking co-workers for cash? Yeah, no in the right situation. Yeah Oh, I don't watch too many like YouTube shorts or tiktoks, whatever Rob watches But one of the things that pops up on my thing once in a while is like Dana white from the UFC playing like million-dollar Blackjack or like huge amounts of money like blackjack. Yes. I don't know if it's million I think it's like he'll lose like 300 grand in a night 400 grand in a night type of thing No, his goal he said is to play like a million dollar hand of blackjack And he's trying to find a casino that will ensure him to do it Yeah, I mean just the dumbest luckiest guy in the whole world You know what I mean? Like he looks like a potato and he's just as oh But I was thinking like for all the people that fight In the UFC or do the slap league and all that when they watch Dana white go gamble like $700,000 on a hand
[1:28:00]They've got to just be in rage, right? Right. That'd be crazy He does nothing and these guys are like getting their heads bashed into that. He's like, oh, here's $5,000 But guess what you won the bonus. It's a bonus $2,000 to Guns before butter This is a song about the government choosing between military spending or social welfare. So it doesn't really Why do us but I will say this I think butter I think I've been using too little butter in my cooking. You know what? I I asked chat gbt the other day By the way, switch over to Claude let everybody know Okay, politically It's supposed to be a better product, right? That's what they who cares who knows I I need to cook advice from your government I asked it to judge up my taco in a box that I made at home. You know what? I mean, how do I make Taco in a box better? What? How do you spell judge? I don't know. I kind of think I did a voice text. I should have checked
[1:29:00]I think zu zsh. How do you think you spell judge? I think that's what I would do. Yeah, that's yeah And it said oh when you're done with the meat and the sauce Put some butter in there and stir that up and I did it and guess what it was fucking good That a bunch of butter and food is really fucking good. Russell, what cooking advice do you have? Oh, I was gonna say so I was just being like a basic chicken breast the other day and I'm making it on on the stove top just the quickest I'm not baking it for forever. I'm cooking it the quickest way I can Whatever throw some olive oil in the pan put it in there How do you get the olive oil to not splatter all over when you're making something like how low can you cook it? Or what do you have to do? Do you have to pat the chicken dry? So there's no lick wetness? Like what how do you get a splattering all over? You can cover it like I said Or you just deal with splatter and it's flattering cleaning up. You're putting in the chicken and then it's splattering
[1:30:00]It's while it's cooking you get that you gotta get it high But you can't get it hot with olive oil more points too low It'll definitely pat it dry and then avocado covered if you need But also just let it splatter and cleaner. That's that's what I did And then I was like well, maybe I'm doing something wrong Well, Russell you should make chicken breasts like my wife famously does where she puts it in the crock pot Puts it on high And then walks away, and that's it. There's nothing else. There's no broth. There's no salt. There's no nothing in there She just made there There's a medical event when he heard that Yeah, look at Listen, I know because I I know the geographic area where she is from and That entire part of the world just missed the mayard reaction entire. Yes. I love it. They just I love this care about this makes me so happy To think about how many listeners are in this exact geographic location And I'm just absolutely dropping the pupils elbow on them right now. You have to brown the proteins to get some flavor
[1:31:00]Oh, I'm sorry. You guys aren't from a big town like Ankeny, Iowa You guys don't know shit Okay It is a place though. We're like Tater tots are a major part of a lot of meals. You know what I mean? Yeah, because they're brown on the outside. They're crispy because yeah because they outside touch some heat Yeah cream of you know cream of something is a major like we we got to have it It's a major part of every meal that we have I love it Yeah, thanks. Thanks for listening. Each shit small town in america signed Aaron I found this small town in america. I found that essence rare And this was a song talking about how They were like you can just buy the essence of something now. That's so fucked up You can just doesn't make sense. What is the essence of like? It's true This is talking about bikinis seem bikinis growing up Made me think of one time. I remember forever that in my house
[1:32:00]For some reason there's a fred. Oh, I don't want to think about why now actually But there's a fred ricks of hollywood Have you guys ever seen a fred ricks of hollywood catalog? Oh My god, I kept that for Years It's like I mean there's it's like only one way someone in your house got that catalog No, they bought something from it Perhaps for someone else in your house Maybe just like a little gift. No, it's like thinking about birthdays and valentine's days where somebody might I cannot be comes a little lift. I cannot be jacking off to an outfit. My dad might have bought my mom I just can't have done that Please don't say that anymore. It's like next to his ebay is like a east bay magazine and the and like the Disco ball magazine You think my dad's buying baddie gloves It helps, right? This is this feels good. I like this actually The fred ricks of hollywood famously had just bras where there's no front
[1:33:00]You know, I mean like the bras were just underneath and I was like, I know that's what I said to rustle That's exactly what I said when I was like 13. I was like, there's different kinds of bras out there. This is crazy glass I love this line I just love that look through a window. What do you see? I'm looking through a pane of glass. I love it I don't I mean, this is very divo to me. Man. What did you think this album? Do you enjoy it? I I didn't dislike it right, but it felt kind of the same and like I think I'd rather listen to like a Talking heads You know talking heads before talking heads and go from there. So Admittedly the kind of the punk genre is not really my My favorite, but You know, so but it's not a bad you get the impression if you went to an art school
[1:34:00]There's like 50 of these types of bands on campus. You know, I mean like art school, right? Yeah, well, that's what talking heads are all art students, too. If you remember from my okay about the album So Aaron, what what do you remember is a big sex thing growing up? Like what was the first hot like swimsuit issue? What do we got at home? Yeah swimsuit issue and the victoria secret catalog those. Yeah, Victoria's secret. Yeah Yeah, that was a big swimsuit issue is tough though because you had to wait like a certain amount of time before you're like Well, this is going down in the bathroom downstairs. You know what I mean like this is pretend like your mom didn't see it Like oh, it's yeah Yeah, it's like what I'm using it for the perfume sample in the middle of the magazine Mom I like to paint You remember that one? They were like it was like they're painting on their thing and I was like, oh, is this Am I supposed to like really like this like is this supposed to be really cool? Contract At home. He's a tourist this got up to 58 on the uk pop charts
[1:35:00]We were in time square walking to hamilton with a slice of pizza my daughter and I And the whole time we're both like we look like tourists We everybody thinks we're a tourist everybody thinks Aaron you do any tourist touristy stuff up there I do actually I like doing touristy stuff. My favorite is opera trance. I love if people come out I love doing opera trance. Have you been I actually have only with opera trance twice, but that's And I have fishermen's work is actually a beautiful place. It's like it's kind of stinky because of the Sea lions, but the sea lions are cool. Like that's a very cool thing to do So there's like the touristy stuff out here. I I do it when people come out Because it's worth it. It's cool. Yeah, I do like getting on a boat going around Manhattan. You know what I mean? Like it's fun. It's fun to do man. You doing touristy stuff I mean in minneapolis, but you travel a lot too for work Yeah, no sites usually but I try to do like just a little bit off beat of touristy things like
[1:36:00]Go to the cool restaurants like Russell and stuff like that. So yeah I like to know what's hip now with it. Wow and the different cities The 545 This is referring to what time the news came on And the album is named after one of the lines in the song that the line in the song is Gorilla war struggle is new entertainment exclamation points. Yeah, this feels like the most overly political Yeah, well very kind of clash. Don't you think like it's very This is barely post What's that other instrument playing so there's bass and then what is that? You know what I bet it is right? I bet it's that one you blow into You think so I I can almost guarantee it Yeah, can you imagine a punk band and there's some guy back there just blowing the shit in some many keyboards some other instrument Yeah, oh good. It's this funny though thing is this album like entertainment exclamation point They get so fun and the line is like from gorilla war on news. So it's a very air into me. That's an irony
[1:37:00]Okay, maybe that's just I think about these things. I don't know Am I a genius you think? Yeah kind of I really do think it would a genius have eyebrows that look this good You guys got me hyped by the way about my eyebrows And then we do the russell special We finish with a song where they're singing a love song and talking about what love really means in the other channel Almost unlistable Did we get the anthrax one already? Yeah, this is Looks like anthrax I've got the top five anthraxes in music history right here and you're ready for this list Anthrax did they do something with onyx remember when there was that like late night mtv stuff What was that? You're totally right metal bands doing crossover with hip-hop bands The lead singer from anthrax had a huge comeback with those vh1 shows where he would be a talking head And everybody was what was that anthrax? Anthrax did some rap tunes like anthrax
[1:38:00]Oh biohazard was the one with onyx That's right. They did a bionics remix. That's right. It was biohazard and they remix slam Wow Wow How many times did your school Did your school try to play slam and then have to shut it down? Yeah, oh It was just like the dj would play it and immediately You would have a bunch of suburban white kids just trying to pound a piss out of each other so fun But listen Okay Speaking of my time at the truck stop we got to pound the piss out of this list Oh That might go on For that one here I got it waiting system. I'm thinking more and more about becoming a trucker guys. I'm thinking about it
[1:39:00]Crossing this great country Eating at truck stops Tell me what's not to love about that out here Hey, the lawn trucks outside here have indian buffets, Rob Aaron I mean up you have mentioned that I think a dozen times. It's your most repeated It's your most repeated fun fact. Hey, I want to stop at one so bad I'm just about to drive 10 hours across the Rockies through treacherous terrain You know what I mean? You know what I need? Something so spicy. I need some spicy chutney. I want that I want to have to go to the bathroom so bad as a trucker. It's such a perfect one Hey it goes well together with long-haul trucking mind bending diarrhea. Listen You know, we don't care about the album. We barely talked about it. Okay What we care about is the sanctity of this list Okay, the list is what we love the list is what we care for. No this album
[1:40:00]started on this list 490 Russell 490 second one moved up second one goes up to 483 Next one 273 This album made it absolutely gigantic leap Okay entertainment by gang of four and the question is deserved Okay, and I'm not talking about chicken vindaloo at a truck stop not dessert Aaron deserved is what I said You wouldn't eat chicken vindaloo, but I couldn't think of any dessert And I'm not a genius at all. I'm exposed Now, what do you think rolling well toned this album is perfect at 273, okay Rolling groan this album should not have been so high. It should be back in the 490s. Maybe four One it should have been maybe in the four Maybe in the 493s, maybe in the 487 Okay, whatever numbers I just said a little bit ago Or does this a rolling bone it should have been higher up on the list
[1:41:00]Which of course is a lower number or back in time Okay, as what's his name one said the guy that my roommate played over and over What do we think oh also Aaron? It's like when I I mean don't let you get me started about this I fell into a spice pit and I was trying to get out and I fell back in again and guess what Guess what my friend Hughie Lewis said to me. Oh you're back in time Oh, wow, I thought you were doing a mash-up of return of the Jedi and doing somehow in there Oh my god Dune cabaret show What do we think about that? I mean, yeah, I mean Aaron two words sandworm Yep, think about it. Let's go. Yep Russell. Let us know when that was happening Who's gonna stick some hooks into this sandworm and ride it around the stage Now hey speaking of dune and things that usually people in this podcast the peeky blinders movie is out today It's not on streaming for two weeks. Wow It is out at it's in the ecum theater. We might go this weekend Nice back in Ferguson's in it
[1:42:00]I hope everybody's just okay. You know what I mean? I hope nobody gets hurt. That's the number one thing There's no blood or yeah, if somebody gets cut with a razor, I'll be really upset Matt, what do you think rolling well-toned rolling bone or rolling groan? [102:14] I feel like this is one of those albums where you can kind of hear and or visualize the tree that it influenced right the different artists that influence. So I'm gonna say it's rolling well toned right here at 272 273, what do we have 273? [102:31] When was 273? [102:33] Wait, you're screened it again 79 It's early. It's a lot earlier than you think listening to the quality of the recording it does remind me Matt because I was playing some rusted root in the classroom their day and the kid goes This is starbucks music. I was like, damn I was like, damn, you are right. That is so good That is accurate Russell, what do you think rolling well-toned rolling bone or rolling groan? [102:55] I'm gonna say rolling groan. I don't mind this, but this just seems way too high
[1:43:00]This is not to me. This was not a very fun listen. I think it's kind of I don't even know what the right word to describe. It just seems jagged to me I'm not really into it that much. So I'm gonna say rolling groan. I think it's way too high it does remind me. I do have I have blues traveler on my weight room mix Do you know how hard it is to play blues traveler for kids in 2026 and try to explain What that band was You know what I mean? Like do they like it or not like a virtual so so that was really cool at the time They never comment on the music ever, but it is it's like, oh, this guy was really good at harmonica And it's like what it's I actually know it's huge. Like it was jagged. I think that's it That's the story Aaron. Aaron. What do you think rolling well-toned Aaron? [103:41] Listen that break that you wanted me to take for my blues traveler story well worth it So thank you for letting me go down that path that probably nobody else would have gone down Aaron, what do you think rolling well-toned rolling bone or rolling groan? [103:52] Yeah, Russell said the word jagged. I like that. I also think of angular I don't know. I I like this music. I enjoyed the album
[1:44:00]I I like the line to red hot chili peppers that we talked about I'm a little bit. I'm I'm not a punk aficionado. I know two punk albums I know bad brains by bad brains and I know minor threat and I like those two. They're quite different But we we listened to fugazi earlier in the Show I like punk with a little bit chunkier guitar, right? This guitar feels a little thin to me I like the chunky stuff like Like we heard in fugazi like you might hear in misfits And a little faster strumming. So I don't know this isn't my favorite punk music Although I don't know punk very well and I know the description on apple music at least called this post punk So maybe I'm wrong all that is to say I like that it's on the list I like the album, but I think it's a little too. I'm gonna give it a rolling groan unfortunately, you guys are incorrect Shit, no way this album gets a rolling exclamation Exclamation entertainment. That's gotta be a new one. Is that finally a new one? [104:59] If they haven't used a lot of new ones, okay? Almost all of them are new
[1:45:00]Okay, have I ever done rolling inspiration? For example, it's rolling entertainment. Oh, no, I didn't that was the right It's entertainment exclamation point. It's fun. It makes a point. It's smart. That's why this is What's the genius episode? Okay, and I'll never listen to it again. What did you do next week? [105:21] Hold on. Yes You know, what's fun what we've got the song p. I am p Yes, you're taking you're taking you're taking this album. We just listened to over get rich or die trying Hey, manny from south st. Paul get the fuck out of here. There's no way this album is better With that 57 That one is his top to bottom. That is so many hits I get it If gang of four heard this song say would just put their heads down and walk out of the True through you want some steel drums? You got it right here. Where is this on the list? [106:01] I
[1:46:00]Got to be on no chance to sound there gotta be Not be on the list. It happens. It's not I bet it's no way. There's no way. This is not in the list This album so full of hits 280 Telling you no way it's not on that'd be so good if it was is it really it's not really 280. Is it That get rich or die trying? Yeah. It's 280. Yes. Yes It's that'll be awesome to happen in our life. Do we stay on and do 280 right now? Just keep going. Fuck this size. Olympia shit Hey Oh, I don't know if it's parallel or you're breaking up During my circuit test It's got 21 questions on it real question Will we get to cover the bonus track of wankster? [106:53] Yes, 100% This is a back to their brother promise. We will be covering wankster. We have to Okay, are we going to get a parody of wankster? That's the question
[1:47:00]But that seems like I could get myself a little bit of trouble. You know what you didn't do a parody again, huh? [107:07] You know wankster. No, I'm gonna wrestle. I'm I'm there. Are they done? No, they're not done Look at these albums. Look at these last couple albums. I was like supposed to do a parody Why do you say wankster with a hard R? [107:18] Are you a hard R guy? No, I'm actually Rob is a hard R guy. No, he did I was listening to Rob. What was the thing you guys messaged about the other day? [107:27] What were we talking about the other someone sent a message about the beginning of mani from South St. Paul What did he send a baywatch? [107:35] And if you go back and listen to whatever we talked about baywatch at the beginning rob hard R twice And I was like, wait, is he always done that? [107:43] And I it's it is a rob thing rob hard R's the ends there. It's a Rochester thing Yeah This that makes me very uncomfortable Okay I've talked about me jacking off this episode. I've talked about my dad jack it off I've talked about sticking power tools to my pants and this makes me very uncomfortable
[1:48:00]Rob, it was Pamela Anderson. You called her Pamela Anderson You did it people Neil from South St. Paul or from Lakefield go back and listen to Rob's hard R I don't know that's not hard R. I don't think that was I don't think I think you heard something rustle I don't think that's true. No, pull it up. Listen. So see that's the joke. I was going to make earlier. Listen Next week We have an album that's mixing grand parson's with the birds to make the first ever country rock record The second country rock record when dwayne johnson ate 35 pickled pigs feet I mean those people in the country You know what I mean? They're huge sucks balls. Would you say that's a good bunch of really good out there Oh, you'd like to I mean you got to admit that we have talked about that and tackle God's in the same episode I mean, it's kind of the evidence is That's shocking
[1:49:00]Did it better Russell, did you know that this band tried to come out later? [109:07] with [109:10] Had twos on their face They did yeah That was post Malone punk post Malone punk. It's time to say Good bye try it again speaking of it. I bet can you manage the breasts? [109:25] Hey, he did a hell of a job on the Aussie tribute on the Grammys though. No, I'll say listen I Listen, it's it's it's the it's literally the best post Malone. I know okay next up Russell picture this picturing Chuckie well what's different what's different about a brussel It's got some heavy hands Get over here. I'm gonna stab your ankle. No you're not you can barely move your breasts are so big And you're so small russell chuckie his face down
[1:50:00]On the carpet with a knife trying to go like this and he's got a huge breasts Is that gonna be how the episode ends me saying chuckie has huge breasts
