[00:00]in 2020 four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by

[00:04]rolling stone magazine this resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the

[00:09]order and led us to making this podcast we are far from experts but we promise to do almost no

[00:14]research all opinions are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy back did it

[00:20]better we're all the way up to album 34 inner visions by stevie wonder all right guys so i'll

[00:28]tell you what we have talked about the song of the summer and i have decided that the only thing

[00:33]we can do is i've got to give you a live version of what i feel is going to be the probably the

[00:37]greatest song of all time and see if you can tell what it was inspired by are you guys ready for

[00:42]this live version let's do it yeah unless unless it's unless it's really really bad and then it's

[00:47]going to get edited in as the pre-recorded version or post-recorded version in this case

[00:52]because i did not do it today oh yeah laziness oh yeah all right here we go

[00:58]we talked started texting then we made a podcast yes we all said yeah we can crank them all out so

[01:13]fast oh yeah we told everyone our family and our friends but now it seems that this podcast will

[01:22]never end turns out it's actually tough most our episodes suck

[01:28]this podcast

[01:28]by now our download numbers would be soaring turns out it's hard when your podcast super

[01:42]boring turns out it's more than chatting with your friends and rob's the only one who edits

[01:49]and posts to instagram

[01:52]most our podcasts suck

[01:58]i think we all have plenty of ideas for rob to post on instagram he just is the one who

[02:28]has to do it then i do not want to do it every every time we text rob he just texts right over us

[02:34]rob's responses are shitty i want to hear did anybody actually hear about this podcast via

[02:41]our instagram account i cannot imagine it works like that because i i see all the other podcasts

[02:46]instagram things that they post i just scroll right by i don't even bother looking i don't

[02:50]care it could be a podcast instagram post that says robert blank this podcast is for you you

[02:58]listen to it it's going to help you get better life and i'd be like no yeah you know what i just

[03:01]don't have time do you guys ever do that when people suggest podcasts to you where you're like

[03:04]oh yeah oh i'm definitely gonna listen to that and you know you're just never ever ever gonna

[03:09]listen my move is my move is i'm big and i take a notepad and i write stuff down to make people

[03:13]think i'm taking things seriously so anytime i get a book recommendation a podcast recommendation

[03:19]a tv show i grab a notepad and write it down because i'm like well man he wouldn't write

[03:23]it down if he wasn't going to listen to it and then i just rip that shit out and toss it away

[03:28]when they're not around that that shit makes me laugh so hard that you'd be like

[03:31]they look in your garbage can there's like a hundred rolled up things of notebook paper

[03:37]in the garbage can says like yellowstone on it no offense man uh all right listen i've got three

[03:43]guys here who have kept texting me all week telling me about the oral roberts basketball

[03:47]team i don't know what that's about but they seem really interested in what the joke is right there

[03:51]it's blow bob i've got matt minneapolis by the way that's not going to be dated when this comes

[03:54]out in like four weeks i've got matt in minneapolis matt how are you doing

[03:58]just great rob just great love these questions that we've started on the podcast with this is

[04:02]great thanks for having me no problem i got russ in minnesota russ how are you doing guys i'm a man

[04:09]with a plan whenever my online dates are disasters i've got counterfeit dollars in my hand i'm mr

[04:15]know-it-all yeah i got aaron out in california aaron on the west coast how you doing aaron

[04:21]hello jesus children i'm excited to be here on back to the better where the shorts are short

[04:26]but lord the legs are sturdy

[04:28]and i'm rob i'm in new york city and i definitely didn't flub the opening note of that song by any

[04:36]means okay so let's just if you heard a fluff that was put in in post as a joke oh let's laugh

[04:42]about that now oh rob can't actually start a song and it makes him nervous to find the key that it's

[04:46]in all right so let's get right into it today we are going right to

[04:52]roland go straight into it here we go

[04:56]yeah i was

[04:58]really looking for something to speak to you guys about but it's time to see what everybody's up to

[05:02]it's time for rolling going oh yeah and i did just get one text message but all it said was

[05:12]if aaron is this excited about his coffee grinder think of what a microwave will do for him but i

[05:17]was like the conversation's already happened like a million times in the podcast so i was like i

[05:22]want to point that out it was a very good text uh rolling going matt how's it rolling going with

[05:26]you uh good good i got my

[05:27]list here i'm gonna try to get through it quick um i've got a notebook paper you have it written

[05:32]down on a notebook paper i'll jot this down for you man jot it down for me you know my my my

[05:37]and then i'll edit that right out when somebody says like hey well you want to take my number

[05:42]down you're like oh yeah yeah it's like this and they're like okay well six one eight nine

[05:46]six one two all right eight six eight six yeah hold hold it yeah okay got it okay thanks and

[05:52]you know you just not even take it but the number thing actually comes up quite a bit in the online

[05:57]dating world so now a lot of times you'll go out with someone and you've met them through an app

[06:01]but you don't have their number yet so sometimes you go through the awkward thing at the end of

[06:05]the night where it's hey can i get your number you're trying to take it just from the app to

[06:09]actually having someone's phone number and it always happens where you know someone gives you

[06:14]the number and then you do like the quick call to make sure it buzzes make sure they don't give you

[06:17]the wrong number but so it's a whole thing oh so you gotta you do you check them right there like

[06:23]oh here give me your phone so i can type in my number and i'm gonna call you from

[06:26]i'm gonna call me from your phone so that i've we need to establish that we trust each other

[06:31]and to do that i'm gonna call you right now okay good i will say it is definitely a 100

[06:36]sign of no second date if you say hey why don't you why don't you give me your number i'll text

[06:40]you and they say oh we can just keep it on the app that is a certain sign that is going no further

[06:46]keep it on the app i like if they were smart they would get a google voice number like we did for

[06:50]better matt what are you talking about what were we talking about even i can't remember

[06:54]this week oh yeah

[06:56]notebook paper joke joke i can see where it went already okay joke uh you know i i have tried to

[07:03]start up getting through the list again and i don't know if you guys are following along or

[07:08]russell i know you've had a couple big weeks here of uh of work activities so you probably haven't

[07:13]had too much time but you know i'm up to 192 which is like 203 uh total albums you know since

[07:21]they read the list impressive we were up to 231 though impressive that's what i was up to so i'm

[07:25]still like

[07:26]28 albums that just got thrown in the trash can so i'm still kind of pissed about that still if

[07:31]we ever get to talk to the editors at rolling stone matt's gonna have something to say my goodness

[07:35]yeah have you had like a new favorite album that you've come across matt that jumped way up that

[07:39]you weren't expecting to like or not are you are you are you like looking at my notes here or what

[07:43]like this is amazing like almost like i just served that up to you softball style somebody

[07:49]asked me a question yeah uh no i you know there was a couple highlights that i got uh you know we

[07:55]talked about steely dan last week and i was like i don't know if i'm gonna be able to do that next

[07:56]time i had no idea who steely dan was or how good he was you know you hear him kind of like in

[08:01]in pop culture is like one of those guys that people make steely dan it's not there's not a

[08:05]steely dan there's not a steely dan it's it's a whole thing i am here from the future i was actually

[08:12]gonna you're coming with me we have a list today and i was gonna include steely dan on there for

[08:16]matt because he's texted about steely dan but admittedly i didn't know if it was a person or

[08:20]a band so i didn't want to put it on there yeah and bernard purdy played drums for them on some

[08:25]tracks on aja bernard the hit maker

[08:26]yeah

[08:26]we all know that uh so here's the thing uh matt is that i can't believe you like thank you captain

[08:31]obvious here steve gad also played drums you by the way can you guys start laughing again when i

[08:35]make fun of aaron when you guys don't laugh i feel very very bad it makes me feel absolutely

[08:40]terrible when i just lean into aaron and you guys are staring at me like you monster and i'm like oh

[08:44]no i don't want to be mean to my sweet aaron but it's so funny that you don't like super produced

[08:48]albums and yet you like steely dan like legitimately the most produced albums of all time

[08:54]yeah you know and so i'm you're

[08:56]right i'm a bit of a fraud but you know i like what i like so also one of the

[09:00]multitudes it's one band that's named after vibrators

[09:03]that's where the term steely dan comes from it's a it's a slang for a vibrator

[09:08]i don't know it sounds like a sounds like a pretty hefty vibrator to me but

[09:12]why did they name it dan i think it was a miss typo it's supposed to be steely dong and then

[09:19]they were like oh no something like todd or brad or steely rob but they got the three letters all

[09:25]confused i think there's probably lots of bands named after vibrators yeah see the commodore jackson

[09:33]five the eagles any band name is funny as a vibrator isn't it the police the flaming lips

[09:44]oh wait oh no the hold steady i can do this all night this is great cream the big bopper

[09:52]well let's pull up the 500 list and go for it

[09:55]simon engar funkel

[09:58]marvin gay

[10:01]public enemy

[10:04]notorious big shut it down how about this one how about this one talking heads

[10:14]red hot chili pepper oh my god how about this one the jimmy hendrix experience oh that's yeah that's

[10:25]i okay

[10:25]those are all very very good i beastie boys we're not even close to done rob what about the sex

[10:31]pistols forget it we don't even need to do a podcast just keep going lil wayne dusty springfield

[10:38]that seems like a good vibrator name joy division you guys are not the joy division you guys are not

[10:45]getting hired as uh vibrator marketing people by the way i don't think that's not little richard

[10:54]oh that's very good

[10:55]there's been a vibrator named little richard that has happened that has absolutely happened

[11:00]at some point in human history there's no way it hasn't what about the replacements like your wife

[11:05]rob always just says hey rob rob i don't need you this evening i've got the replacement

[11:09]that's funny again russell i think you got i think you're in you're looking right over my

[11:16]shoulder or something because i was going to say you know right after steely dan there was a

[11:20]great band called oasis that had uh what's the story morning glory which kind of

[11:25]you know i don't know if you've heard of it but it's a band called oasis that had uh what's the

[11:25]the old heartstrings that was a one that i just played until it didn't play anymore back in high

[11:31]school so i love that but then i did come across and i had never heard of them before but the band

[11:37]replacements and you know i guess they're from minneapolis minnesota's own yeah many uptime

[11:43]minnesota zones they're kind of a cute little band you know and as they kind of sound like

[11:47]they got a little they got a little you know they're they kind of sound like they know what

[11:52]they've got going on so i don't know they're kind of a cute little band and and uh you know

[11:55]they're kind of a cute little band and uh you know they're kind of a cute little band and uh you know

[11:55]they're kind of a cute little band and uh you know they're kind of a cute little band and uh you know

[11:55]they're kind of a cute little band and uh you know they're kind of a cute little band and uh you know

[11:55]you know you guys if you're if you think of it maybe check them out i mean they're not the best

[11:59]out there but i would check them out so which album did you listen to which what's their top

[12:04]one i've heard they're not the best by some people some of our fans out there what's their top one is

[12:09]it tim or is it let it be that's on the or pleased to meet me let it be okay you know there is a they

[12:14]might be giant number 155 all right yeah zero people found that interesting i literally have

[12:20]a replacements tattoo so i but it's from the tim album not from not wait

[12:25]wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait you guys know that we have talked about the

[12:30]replacements a number of times both on the podcast and off and i never knew you had a

[12:34]replacements tattoo yeah that my favorite replacement show us the tattoo show us the

[12:38]tattoo well i gotta put my it's it's it's just a little tasteful guy what are you doing that you

[12:43]just have a tattoo of a giant vibrator that's no good it says here comes a regular laugh which is

[12:48]the name of my favorite replacement song which was written about uh a bar in minneapolis uh some

[12:55]people think it might have been westrom's tab westrom's tavern where i spent a lot of time

[12:58]some people think it could have been the cc club but uh yeah i have a i have a replacements tattoo

[13:03]what was the quote again rosie here comes a regular is the name of the song oh all right

[13:09]it's a great song check it out that's also what i say to the guy in new jersey when he's pumping my

[13:13]gas does that make any sense he's like no sir we only have unleaded actually and i'm like no put

[13:19]lead in it is that one of those jokes of new york looking down on new jersey again you get high in

[13:24]no it's 80 new york

[13:25]it's because in new jersey you legally cannot pump your own gas oh you have to have somebody

[13:29]pump your gas too right and i love it i love not getting out of the car i love having somebody

[13:35]pump my gas i think it's great it it's awesome i thought it would stress me out and it's wonderful

[13:39]are you ever in a hurry where you only want to put like five bucks in and they come up and they're

[13:43]gonna fill it up you're like hey i only got time for three bucks here no no no no they they first

[13:48]of all i'm never actually like in a hurry like in a car i'm in a car so rarely and second of all

[13:55]oh i need to go in and use the bathroom therefore negating any speed like like pickup that we have

[14:02]from having somebody else pump our gas she gets out so then i have to go and of course park by the

[14:06]side of the gas station does the pumper get a tip i do i look that up and they said a lot of people

[14:12]said oh no i just do it on the holidays but i have to i mean you're having i think you should

[14:15]tip everyone for everything i mean anyone who's working for an hourly wage should be tipped like

[14:20]that that's hard man you have to show up to work like you literally have to show up to get paid

[14:24]that's terrible

[14:25]yeah teachers should get tips rob right and and i agree with you aaron i think the five dollar bill

[14:31]thing you do is great this five dollars down make a mistake pull it away it's easy for aaron to say

[14:36]that because he buys all of his stuff from amazon online and doesn't go to mom and pops anymore

[14:40]that's that's terrible his local stores it's easy for you to say that when you don't have to tip the

[14:46]amazon workers i don't buy from amazon wait where would you get that idea aaron likes all these

[14:51]pictures online of people pissing in bottles and stuff like that's why he supports amazon he wants

[14:55]to see more

[14:55]people have to pee in a bottle rolling going what's going on with you i figured i might go

[15:02]back to the the dating corner and see if i get some dating advice from you guys i've kind of

[15:06]hit a bit of a cold spell and i feel like i need to reset and might need you guys to put me back

[15:10]on the right track i'm here for this get get get get to the corner it's time for russell's advice

[15:17]now russ in the past is our advice help yeah well he's still on the podcast so probably not i'm in

[15:24]no worse position than i was before the podcast so i don't think it's hurt he's still spending time

[15:29]with us so that's not a great sign so the one thing i was going through is i was looking at i

[15:35]use an app called you guys have heard about bumble but i also use an app called hinge hinge is

[15:40]essentially you have about six pictures and then there are about three questions where you put a

[15:46]real short 140 character answer to three questions so when you look at someone's profile you see what

[15:52]the question is you see their answer and then you put a real short 140 character answer to three questions

[15:54]and then you kind of respond to it like you would on facebook or some sort of social media app so

[15:58]the way hinge works is i've got to put three questions or three prompts with my pictures

[16:04]three kind of clever lines that go with these questions so i thought what i would do is run

[16:09]some of these questions by you guys and see if you have any ideas of what you think would be

[16:13]good responses that could generate conversation or get women to respond to me when i reach out

[16:19]to them does that sound good all right and i promise i'm not going to say dick too big

[16:22]all right we'll start with you guys so i'm going to start with you guys so i'm going to start with

[16:24]an easy one for you guys the first prompt that i was looking at was like i wonder how these guys

[16:28]would answer this is the hallmark of a good relationship is so what would you guys say is

[16:34]the hallmark of a good relationship in a couple sentences or less i would say i'm waiting for you

[16:41]to tell me what a good relationship is oh there we go that's pretty good some long lines of you

[16:47]know being able to spend time apart from each other and i don't know if i'm saying that eloquently

[16:52]enough but i think the hallmark of a good relationship is the hallmark of a good relationship

[16:54]is people who have different interests then you come back together you're not going to spend every

[17:00]minute of every day of every hour with each other you know so you've got outside interests so that

[17:05]you're not uh you know just trying to all of a sudden be a blackhead on that person's back or

[17:11]something like that like let's say that one person's interest is you know sleeping in a bed

[17:14]with their spouse and the other person's interest is doing podcasts at 11 30 at night with three of

[17:20]his friends like that's a great relationship once a week right

[17:24]like once a week you gotta have yeah yeah i don't have a joke about this one but i think a hallmark

[17:28]is knowing when to when to pick each other up so knowing when you got to give some extra

[17:32]when the other person needs it and then when when the other person can can know when you need some

[17:37]some extra help that to me that's that's the hallmark is knowing when you got to step in and

[17:41]pick each other up it might surprise you but that's what i'm terrible at that i am absolutely

[17:44]awful at reading when she wants to just talk and when she wants advice and i always step in and

[17:49]give advice like who cares and then she's like no i've been talking to you for 15 minutes you cannot

[17:54]say to be honest with you rob you know on our on our on our side text chain that we've got without

[17:58]you because you're the main host so as the secondary host we have our side text we talk

[18:02]about that often that rob just you know he's he's not picking up on our cues how can we get him to

[18:07]come and just see that we need some help we get robbed we are floundering here we need help rob

[18:12]and yeah yeah it's it's been noted i do a bit of work in analytics i'm not going to bore you guys

[18:17]too much but you're oh here we if if aaron gives us warning he's not going to bore us this could

[18:22]be really let me write this down on a piece of notebook

[18:24]when you're when you're building a model you want to know if your model can improve over the naive

[18:28]model and the naive model should assume that no no one wants robin's advice so if you just always

[18:35]guess no you're going to do better than any model you could come up with in your head you can any

[18:39]algorithm you can build is not going to do better than just guessing no so that's it that's i was

[18:44]bored i'm bored okay well my rolling going now is out the window i had lots of advice for all three

[18:49]of you guys on this podcast but i already said one of them laugh at me more

[18:54]so i don't know there's not much else i can say i mean i've been doing that for 10 years 15 years

[18:58]now 20 years all right all right russell done we've we've given you great advice on that one

[19:02]the next prompt would be you guys are aware of the five love languages right oh yeah so the next

[19:08]prompt is my love language is what is the love language what should i say is my love language

[19:13]i'm going to go through and tell everybody the five love languages because my my aaron aaron

[19:17]has been holding up fingers and i think he said beans and rice for i don't think the tortillas in

[19:22]there beans and rice done this time i'm going to go through and tell everybody the five love languages

[19:24]so here's the deal we got we got touch right we got gifts we've got acts of service we've got

[19:31]there's one where you just hang out with them right uh quality time quality time and then

[19:37]there's oh you're good at this right affirmation words of affirmation oh you guys know this stuff

[19:42]way to go well i'll tell you what it's on this app right hey aaron i've wrote it down i've wrote

[19:47]it down about two dozen times on notebook paper and i toss that shit every time after every

[19:51]conversation now russ is there a way

[19:54]on the answer that you can change the font to make it look like you're whispering

[19:56]because i think you whispering touch is it would be really really good

[20:01]i could just put it on all caps would that work or not hey here's a gift i want to touch you

[20:10]hey let's get some quality time together i'll touch you words of affirmation yes i'm going

[20:16]to touch you now acts of service i'm going to touch you it's all of them it's the best no i

[20:23]know we know the

[20:24]five love languages because uh mine unfortunately is touch which is a big bummer it's it's it's

[20:29]ruined a lot of my friendships and then uh but because you don't hug me i'm i'm telling you man

[20:34]next time i see you it's going to be a big hug you're getting a big hug aaron do you just you

[20:37]wait i'm gonna do more i'm gonna wrestle you down to the ground for that but my kids have different

[20:43]love languages and it's been hard to once you figure that out it kind of makes a lot more sense

[20:47]with kids like i have one who's literally is just quality time so you could be like hey i'm gonna go

[20:54]leg for an hour and she'd be like yeah let's do it let's hang out like that's all she wants to do

[20:57]and then the other one is uh i don't know what just being left alone i guess that's a love language i'm

[21:03]not sure she's whatever the opposite of quality time is so that's my kids so write that down

[21:08]russell this is my kids quality so how is this helping russell it's not we can just move to the

[21:13]next no no no no what's man i want to hear what's your love language mine is uh acts of service and

[21:18]so there's a you know i i don't know it's just i i think the

[21:24]there's the comedian bill burr who said at one time you know guys or wives if you if you could

[21:31]just do this just one time and watch how your husband's mind just get blown just turn the tv on

[21:37]put a basketball game on make him a sandwich open a beer set it on the couch and then just

[21:45]set him ready for an hour russell i hope you're writing this down i don't i don't know i don't

[21:49]know if this is that's life for an hour and watch their minds get blown and that's that you know

[21:54]what i think of when i think so you know i just i um you know i don't mind helping out and i

[22:00]the touching thing i don't know why something happened to me as a child i think so i don't know

[22:04]you know you gotta say i'm not a big hugger i'm not i'm not a big hugger you know and receiving

[22:11]gifts i could care less you know like spending time together that's great that's that that's

[22:15]one i think you know that'd probably be second place things like that but the acts of service

[22:20]just every once in a while um you know just picking up the house or something or just something this

[22:25]sounds like it might be a response to that i think you made a comment one of just put the spoon into

[22:30]the dishwasher all you have to do is put the spoon into the dishwasher it sounds like maybe

[22:33]stop touching me afterwards hey can you can you please fold my laundry as an act of service here

[22:42]aaron what's your love how would aaron how would you respond to the love language well i in

[22:47]preparation for this uh just a little behind the scenes we had some time to think this over i was

[22:53]gonna say burritos um which i guess would be like an act of service like bringing me a burrito but

[22:57]uh i think now that i know what the real love languages are my i'm like rob mine is touch

[23:01]so rob like we're just gonna have to we're just gonna have to sit and hold hands next time we

[23:05]hang out like yeah that's that's where i'm at it's gonna be i i would be so down with that

[23:09]that'd be so fun to me i just love i i'm so into touch that i like being on a crowded subway

[23:13]like i'm on a crowded subway to raise your hand up against me and i'm like yeah baby here we go

[23:17]this is great i think there's something called like isn't there like non-sexual

[23:22]contact like hugging isn't it isn't like a thing where people just no no never

[23:26]any contact is sexual and that's why i got kicked off the college football team

[23:31]by the way ross the correct answer is put down your love language is frenching

[23:37]so my goal of this was hopefully you guys would give me advice that would help me but i don't

[23:46]think that's really going to work i don't think that's going to work i don't think that's going to

[23:47]work so i'm going to give you guys another one maybe you guys because because sometimes you

[23:52]don't want to talk too much about yourself you want to ask about other people so the next prompt

[23:56]i wanted to see what would you ask about a woman you were trying to date the one thing i'd love to

[24:01]know about you is what is the one thing you would want to know about the person you're trying to date

[24:06]will you touch me down there oh no no oh man if you're talking feet then yeah that's oh

[24:17]i would want to know who their favorite singer is like what's your favorite singer and not

[24:21]not you know not in this ranking kind of scenario like when you need to listen to some music who do

[24:28]you who's your go-to who do you listen to that's that's one thing i would want to know yeah and

[24:32]you're probably not if you're i was gonna go no judgment yeah yeah you're not judging but like

[24:36]look have somebody right don't just be like i don't listen to music i live i love probably not

[24:40]or whatever yes yeah that's why i've got i've got knees i've got an easy answer to that

[24:45]yeah

[24:47]so i'm with you rosie i'm right along that's that's the same thing line of thinking i was

[24:58]going right all right here we go final prompt i'm weirdly attracted to what what are you guys

[25:06]weirdly attracted to this is weird because our wives well rob's doesn't but i know rosie's

[25:11]listen and mother-in-law's and rob's mother-in-law listens things like that

[25:17]right now i'm weirdly attracted to any information about the suez canal that is not related to the

[25:26]economy not related to that ship i gotta write this down my my swipes are gonna go right right

[25:31]right if i put in the suez canal i need to know what's happening on these right good or bad where

[25:36]people are stuck there i hope is there an uber for an uber eats for boats are there bars can

[25:43]people like people who are stuck on these boats can they hop on a dinghy and go to a bar are they

[25:47]stuck i saw tonight on the internet that someone built a dating app for people who are stuck on

[25:52]ships in the suez canal so if you're weirdly attracted to knowing anything more about this

[25:56]situation and about the real lives of these people who are out here living this that's that's where i'm

[26:01]at that's that's what i can't stop thinking about right now the dating app is called suez canal

[26:06]so don't bring up birth canal again please it's getting cut out

[26:17]aaron you know that they have food on ships like normally but they don't stop every day it's not

[26:23]like a road trip with your kids or they're like oh what if they had enough food to get to where

[26:27]they're going and that was four days ago and now they're stuck in the suez canal and they ran out

[26:30]of food what like what's gonna happen i see this is fascinating stuff now you're gonna do not write

[26:37]that down whatever you do not write down i'm weirdly attracted to the boats of the suez canal

[26:41]i got yeah and i got i got another one that don't write this down but i i don't know what it is but

[26:45]like any of those like prison shows like oh no brah and all that it's i i don't know what it is

[26:53]but like it just fascinates me i never ever ever want to go to prison but how those people survive

[26:58]and like is it helping them is it not you know are some people can you rehabilitate them i don't

[27:03]know that that's it's just a it's one of those things where it's like i'm attracted like a moth

[27:07]to a flame if there's like a prison show on for some reason i'm attracted to my podcast co-host

[27:13]wives so i would put that down

[27:15]so if you guys are out there call the beck line 802-277-2325 i don't share everything i get on

[27:23]the beck line with these guys so you can call or text the worst thing is my my podcast host wives

[27:30]would probably get me more play than prison shows and the suez canal right now so that's

[27:36]out of the three options that i've got from you guys to pump up my profile i may just be looking

[27:42]for that corrupt woman morally corrupt woman out there that's gonna be down there

[27:45]out of the list you know your list is shrinking but it's you know we're getting rid of the stuff

[27:49]on the bottom i don't i better get i better get out of the corner i don't know if i can

[27:54]handle any more of the suez canal talk i do want to say that i think dick too big would fit for

[27:58]any of those but i didn't say it get out of the corner that was russell oh yeah yes it absolutely

[28:08]is uh rolling going rosie how's it going with you oh i was afraid this wasn't gonna happen i i uh

[28:15]everything's going on in my mind tonight and today rob's always last year i you know he's if

[28:21]if i went russellman you're next i know i know i don't we're doing the podcast i'm gonna ask this

[28:27]you don't have to have a rolling going we can just mind is racing with my rolling guns no i have i

[28:30]have several rollings going first rolling i asked in the coffee grinder uh situation what how you

[28:39]know you are living in filth well that came back to bite me because today the refrigerator stopped

[28:45]and i had to pull the refrigerator out oh no all oh no this was this is one of the worst moments

[28:51]of my life this was you got a cat horrifying yep yeah i got a cat funny story though also found

[28:56]some dog food behind there we don't own a dog and we've lived in this place for seven years

[29:01]so that's oh i thought maybe your wife was sneaking dog food without you knowing it

[29:05]i would have just i would have just moved it's like aaron keeps making me hot dogs and tortellini

[29:11]i just want to eat this dog food it's so much better than what aaron's making every day oh

[29:14]vegetarian ham oh sounds great honey hey are you eating kibbles and bits back there every time

[29:19]aaron was gonna walk out of the kitchen and then she was gonna have to walk out of that dog food

[29:23]she just like swept it under the fridge real quick yeah and he's like why do i need to wear

[29:27]these house shoes she's like never mind she's sweeping the dog just horrific uh but we did

[29:35]call an appliance person he did come and fix the refrigerator so uh and is it your refrigerator

[29:41]isn't that isn't that a that's not your refrigerator is it no we rent but but our

[29:46]we our landlady doesn't live here so it's faster if we just call the person and then like they come

[29:50]and fix it are you sending her the bill yeah of course yeah it just comes off the road okay okay

[29:56]everybody shut up you said your mind was racing and then you told us that your refrigerator broke

[30:00]and it was dirty behind there yeah is that what you're writing about really better go catch it

[30:04]uh so that was uh number one um number two uh we did have vietnamese takeout tonight and rob i

[30:10]wasn't even going to mention this but there was vegetarian ham in my wife's dish that she had

[30:15]which was delicious and my son told me that he likes that chicken better than the chicken that

[30:19]i make which he was right it's very good chicken um but my final piece of my rolling going kids

[30:25]know how to hurt you don't they though they just say that offhand and you're like i know you're

[30:29]telling the truth that's the worst part of this whole thing i know he was sitting there at dinner

[30:32]he said dad i like this chicken and i was like yeah me too man but like we could have like you

[30:38]didn't have to say that yeah

[30:40]yeah go go get behind the fridge eat that dog food back there

[30:43]the final piece of my rolling going is that i want to build can i ask you have you changed

[30:48]your laugh have you changed your laugh to a quiet laugh have you gone too far away from the mic have

[30:52]you undergone a laugh change what me yes because when you just laughed at that last joke i you i

[30:58]could see you laughing it was silent well it could be but you're listening to me through the zoom

[31:04]when you hear it in the in post it's going to sound fine i think if you have changed your laugh

[31:08]to a silent laugh you are off the podcast immediately i don't think so i think you're

[31:12]gonna hear the laughs okay i'm gonna go back and listen yeah and guess what i hear two things i hear

[31:18]two things uh from the podcast people say who is that rob guy yes he sounds like he should be on

[31:25]the radio he's really funny and really he you guys everybody knows this rob is about the funniest

[31:30]human being i know and i know just yes and we're just you know this whole podcast oh yeah i'll use

[31:36]this as a please go hit like on all of your apps you know we're trying to get rob up to the next

[31:42]stratosphere here we're trying to get him promoted national fame so the more you hit like the more

[31:47]you download our uh our podcast here the quicker rob can get out of here and you don't have to hear

[31:52]us anymore so maybe it's motivation for them all but um yeah i lost my train of thought

[31:58]people like aaron's laugh oh yeah that everybody everybody everybody who is that guy he's got the

[32:05]greatest laugh in the world

[32:06]who is that guy you know that everybody yeah without you know without fail it's all that guy's

[32:12]laugh is great so i'm just here having fun with you guys man i love it it hasn't changed don't

[32:16]worry aaron and we love you too and we think and i do love doing this podcast but if you stop laughing

[32:21]out loud your ass is out of here so fast you're gonna make your head spin okay you're gonna have

[32:26]a lot of time to study shit about the suez canal because you're gone well the final thing i need

[32:32]to study is in response to matt's uh rolling going uh

[32:36]last week um talking about billy eilish i have not listened to the whole billy eilish record

[32:42]i heard bad guy around because it was inescapable and she won all those grammys and everything but

[32:48]after matt was talking about billy eilish i thought well i i gotta understand you know what

[32:52]what is what's billy eilish all about and i know that we joke that on this podcast we're talking

[32:57]about oh hey the top 500 albums are actually pretty good hey the grammys got it right billy

[33:03]eilish that record is really good i super enjoyed that we listened to it like three times yesterday

[33:07]and really enjoyed it and unique isn't it yeah and i also i feel like there are some parallels to

[33:16]this stevie wonder record that we're going to talk about in that both artists are trying to

[33:21]make new sounds that haven't been recorded before and they were doing it in different ways i think

[33:26]the tools are probably different but they're they're both trying to make physical sounds and

[33:33]music that hasn't been recorded before so i got to give matt props because he reminded me that it

[33:38]should be once in a while checking up with what's going on in current music and i've been really

[33:42]enjoying the billy eilish album so that's it that's rolling going with me i have you seen the

[33:47]documentary the billy eilish documentary no is it good it's supposed to be very very good and it

[33:51]makes her look like an even better person and it makes her family look great too so it's like this

[33:55]weird like to hear that that's so nice yeah and no aaron i see your text message i see your text

[34:01]message billy eilish would not be the good name for you

[34:03]so don't please don't say

[34:04]how's it rolling going with rob that's what i want to know i'll tell you what my phone is

[34:11]fucked right now i i realized today i use like five apps all of them are on different pages on

[34:16]my phone they're all over the place i use the one to find when the subway is going to come

[34:20]i use one to order dinner for my kids because the subway is always coming late

[34:23]and then i use like you know facebook instagram not to post for this show but for other things

[34:28]and like i i but they're all over the place on my phone it's a mess i should

[34:33]just take all the apps i use all the time and move them to the front page i'm not going to do it i

[34:37]am too lazy dude what's your guys's phone app organization thing what which what apps do you

[34:42]have any fun apps across the bottom i've got facebook on the bottom do you guys use folders

[34:46]or what are you just straight up you know app apps all over the place it's just everything in

[34:51]there in alphabetical order holy shit are you serious everything in there in alphabetical order

[34:56]or does it automatically do that it automatically does that the only ones i have on my main page are

[35:01]like the text the camera the gallery whatever the things that are already sitting there i don't even

[35:05]know if i would know how to change it yeah i i thought you put him in alphabetical order and i

[35:10]was like oh boy he's been pretty nonchalant about automatically moving them to alphabetical order

[35:14]don't put that on your hinge questions by the way man what about you what's your phone look like

[35:19]oh i i i uh i dig deep into this for some reason and i i kind of rotate it i don't know maybe

[35:26]quarterly i kind of update what i use what i use more than i don't use i don't use more than i use

[35:31]psychos i uh i you can see i don't know see i've got like the clock up there i changed my clock

[35:37]every once in a while you're showing us a website stuck in dryer i don't want to wait a minute

[35:43]actually no but i've got i've got my two email accounts i've got my google calendar which is

[35:46]like our family calendar i got iheart because this is a podcast uh app that i use i i've got

[35:52]amazon music i have two bank accounts and then i've got my like my work calendar like on my

[35:56]front page because i i was missing too many thing or forgetting about too many things and so i open

[36:01]my phone and i'm like oh my god i've got a lot of stuff i've got a lot of stuff i've got a lot of

[36:01]phone i know what i got going on next page it's like weather and then the things that i kind of

[36:06]like to look at a lot like maybe like ebay and amazon and rob's instagram page my my peloton app

[36:12]to see when my next peloton class you know things like that and then as i go back it's less and less

[36:18]used and so like right now because we haven't been to vegas in a long time you guys will you

[36:23]know what's on the back of it is my purple ledger if you guys remember from vegas the purple ledger

[36:28]the purple ledger was a huge mistake where we were all we all had

[36:31]this brilliant huge brain idea of keeping track of how much money we lost in vegas and it took

[36:35]us one night to realize it's probably the most depressing idea ever or win yeah or win that's

[36:42]what we thought we like god we win all the time turns out that is not true what what is an app on

[36:47]your phone that you don't think everyone has that you guys would highly recommend

[36:50]so so i have one have you guys ever used the libby app yeah i love libby oh man so libby if you guys

[36:58]don't have it is essentially you can log into like any library through the libby app so you can

[37:03]essentially it becomes a an e-reader for any sort of local library it's pretty awesome yeah libby's

[37:09]good one that i think rosie could use maybe is the chipotle app you can just order it and just drop

[37:16]it and picks it up and yeah i've been i'll tell you what i just got an app called remote pro

[37:22]because i do not own a tv and so on my couch i have to watch the computer well that is a problem

[37:27]when you need to pause or turn up or down the volume or pretty much do anything i have to get

[37:31]off the couch this remote pro app you can hook it up to any mac and it will control the mouse

[37:37]on the screen and you can like click the button and up and down the volume it is unbelievable it

[37:41]has changed my life i think it was like seven bucks i would pay seven hundred dollars for it

[37:45]i am so lazy more time on the couch i i have never bought an app i've never paid money for

[37:51]a nap are you serious yeah this is mind-blowing to me you've never bought an app no like i'm

[37:57]not the one i can think of you have a job matthew right like you have a job like you would you would

[38:02]be working for 30 seconds to buy an app yeah i don't know matt this may blow your mind but i buy

[38:08]apps all the time whether i use them or not i might act like crazy not a big deal i recently

[38:12]bought the carrot weather app it's a weather app that has jokes on it like i paid money for that

[38:17]you see in any other app but i it has jokes so i paid like what's an example of a joke that was

[38:24]on there well let's get on there right now okay all right

[38:27]it's called carrot yep new york city and and it works with my i my watch that's really why i got

[38:31]it these clouds taste like cotton candy prawn flavored cotton candy how much did you pay for

[38:39]okay so we're gonna move on that's gonna get edited out because that makes me look stupid

[38:43]you bring up your email i don't know if we've talked about this guy before but when you get

[38:48]an email at work let's say you're done with it do you put it like an archive or do you just leave it

[38:52]in your inbox so i have everything in my inbox but i've been accused of being a madman for this

[38:57]no people who people who take the time to organize emails are losers i'm gonna say that right now to

[39:02]do you are a loser and if you are a person who takes time to hash put their emails into different

[39:06]folders uh text in or whatever hashtag loser okay because that's what you are to remind yourself

[39:12]that you're a fucking loser you can just search the email it does not matter got another schism

[39:16]coming on oh i just i delete no i delete them i i i get rid of them i just there's no anything

[39:24]just get rid of them i don't know there's no reason to keep them

[39:27]you delete like all your emails that you get yeah that has to have come back to bite you so

[39:32]many times doesn't it never and that's what i thought how many times i mean really in all or

[39:36]all reality it's like uh well hey i deleted that email can you just send it again or something like

[39:41]is it really that is psycho shit man i truly believe that or you can find my kids social

[39:46]security numbers the other day i where do you find that i have no idea where to find a social

[39:50]security number so i literally went through my email typed in kids social security numbers and

[39:54]unfortunately they didn't pop up immediately which makes me think about it i don't know

[39:57]maybe it's not the best idea to do that you should change your password to your email

[40:00]matt the real question matt the real question is before we move on to the album is are you

[40:05]going to keep all rob's emails with the vibrator names that he's sent over the last hour or not

[40:09]yeah they've got a special folder all right that's all i wanted to make sure rob rob the

[40:14]easiest place to find them is just look at last year's tax returns just pull them up that's that's

[40:19]where the social security numbers are no idea where those are all right so moving on it might

[40:24]surprise you my life is a mess much like my

[40:27]all right so we are talking about inner visions by stevie wonder aaron what year did this uh come

[40:32]out 73 73 and so i i've got my three sentences about the album because uh i have gotten zero

[40:40]emails saying oh no rob the three sentences were such a bad idea we want longer longer longer so

[40:45]that's because nobody's heard the three sentence thing we just recorded that two days that's also

[40:49]true but here's the thing the three cents about this album number one the arp synthesizer once

[40:57]the album to me does sound a little dated i think i think it sounds like it's a weird sound but i

[41:02]think if you were back in 73 or 74 listening to this i think it would be mind-blowing because he

[41:07]was doing stuff with synthesizers that really people used over and over but nobody had heard

[41:13]it up to then and you have to keep it in mind that he paid all the instruments on this album

[41:18]for seven of the nine songs he every single one man band type stuff yeah it's crazy the drumming

[41:24]is really good like it's incredible he's a fantastic drummer i i highly recommend if you

[41:28]haven't yet search stevie wonder drum solo on youtube and there's an old clip of him playing

[41:33]a drum solo and it's absolutely fantastic he is like a legitimate top level drummer which is wild

[41:39]after this album came out he got in a car accident where he actually got

[41:54]knocked out a piece of wood came from a truck in front of him hitting right in the forehead

[41:57]which is crazy he lost a sense of smell and he woke up in the hospital he said oh my god

[42:01]what if i've lost my ability to play music and so they had somebody bring in this uh clavinet

[42:07]into the hospital where he was sitting and they said the smile when he was able to play these

[42:11]songs it was just so big but you can i think you can like this was the start of his three albums in

[42:17]a row that each won best record for the grammys right it was this talking book was the third one

[42:23]and it was something like this and i think it's a really good album and i think it's a really good

[42:24]the sunrise of something or something it was a talking book then this one then fulfilling this

[42:28]first finale and then songs in the key of life right did they all win i mean i don't know if

[42:35]they all won but i think that's the chronology he's on a freaking roll right in the middle of

[42:39]this and i think that accident really made him realize like what's important and what he's going

[42:42]to work towards and what he worked toward is an album that won an absolute shit ton of awards

[42:48]and still is talked about like crazy uh let's get into it let's talk about inner vision so

[42:54]guys the first song let's get too high well no no wait a minute you didn't even let me do my joke

[43:00]that i definitely thought of oh that's what it was i when i was looking for the song i searched

[43:04]too high on my work computer and i immediately realized what a huge mistake that was

[43:08]it is funny the first time i heard this song though i thought he was talking about like

[43:13]doing drugs and how cool it was and then i realized later it's an anti-drug message yeah right

[43:18]me even put the effects on this boy

[43:24]and the keyboards here yeah that that might be a problem though if you're writing a cautionary

[43:29]song and the first time i hear it i'm like hey that sounds awesome like the stuff he's talking

[43:33]about he's like colors are changing you look like a tangerine i'm like where do i take this drug

[43:37]where do i find one of these yeah

[43:40]i love the mix on this album i think the mix is really really good yeah i do think it's i think

[43:48]it's keyboard heavy i think it sounds a little soft music-y but i think the mix you can hear those drums so

[43:54]clearly you can hear his playing so clearly it's crazy i also want to point out he plays the

[43:59]chromatic harmonica now john popper right plays harmonica but you have to switch a harmonica for

[44:04]every single key you're in they all play different keys that's why playing the harmonica is the

[44:07]easiest thing in the world because you just play it no matter what you play it sounds good if they're

[44:11]playing g and then when you switch to c you blow breathe in and then the harmonica sounds good and

[44:16]if you need to switch to d you switch harmonicas but he plays a chromatic harmonica where it's like

[44:20]a piano you can actually play every note and then push a button to move it up a half step listen to

[44:24]this harmonica i mean this rips guys like if you compare this that's my favorite spot

[44:34]and maybe it's just because i got love supreme on the brain but uh and we've been texting about

[44:43]love supreme and i don't know why it's been on my brain but so much about this song made me think

[44:49]of love supreme with the the cymbal work which reminds me so much of elvin jones and then it's

[44:53]like he's pushing that harmonica and then he's pushing that harmonica and then he's pushing that

[44:53]harmonica to its limits the same way coltrane pushes the saxophone to its limits i don't know

[44:58]that's just that that was a connection that came into my head but the saxophone's way cooler right

[45:02]oh well right i'm not yes i mean yeah well okay can i give you guys a little a little secret okay

[45:10]when i was younger i owned a chromatic harmonica i worked my hardest to try to learn how to play it

[45:16]can you imagine me i'm so happy my parent if i was my parents i would be like okay uh you back up the

[45:23]put my head under the tire then we're gonna have to figure this out because who's gonna do your head

[45:27]because this is awful can you imagine just imagine right now your kid has a harmonica period that's

[45:31]uncle russ has given his nieces and nephews harmonicas for christmas before just to watch

[45:36]the reaction of my brother and sister and good spouse yeah my son has one that's so brilliant

[45:42]it is on it is that is on the top three things to not give as an uncle one of them is anything

[45:48]that has a assembly required so then your your brother has to put it together two anything in

[45:53]like water in the house you know like if you got like a check and then three is uh musical

[46:00]instruments yeah you've done it you've got the trifecta russell i know because you don't have

[46:05]to deal with it but then when they have fun with it you get all the credit for right i'm not gonna

[46:09]put that big car ramp together my brother's gonna do it but when it's together uncle russ got me

[46:14]that car ramp right great old evil genius russell you're an evil genius well tonight i'm not doing

[46:23]but i am having high west whiskey so i'm gonna i'm honoring high by having high west whiskey

[46:29]double rye it's the only distillery in utah the first distillery in utah so check it out

[46:34]cheers all right all right and you know what i'll check it out using my vision yes visions

[46:41]does he play guitar on this one or is that too too too slow too slow what i have no idea all i

[46:49]know is on seven of the nine songs he played all the time man are you on board with me this is this

[46:53]is too slow wow i mean yeah we'll hear about my take i guess in in the favorite uh segmentary but

[47:02]yeah i just there's a lot of slow parts in this whole album personally what do your notes say

[47:08]there rob what does that say so i i'm just gonna say this on the genius

[47:13]the comments on genius all it says in genius somebody commenting goes bruh this song's so

[47:23]i was like you know what i can respect that you like you know some guy probably like stoned out

[47:27]of his brain listen to the song he's like oh this song is so beautiful i gotta go tell somebody well

[47:31]i'll go tell everybody on the internet like it's just to take the time to do that i think it's

[47:35]beautiful there was no hulk hogan brother this is so beautiful it was it was like a relaxed bruh

[47:42]this is so beautiful brother you know what's beautiful is when i go to my friend's house

[47:46]and i deep dick wife all day

[47:48]i'm telling you we're gonna watch that tape after

[47:53]we're done with this we gotta make that joke and things that an uncle shouldn't give but i didn't

[47:58]want to go there all hogan all hogan sex tape uh all right i think this might be the best song

[48:06]we've done on this podcast yet i honestly believe that i just want to tell you that's what i feel

[48:12]this is what this is a great song it's a monster in my mind first of all you know i love a story

[48:17]song i loved his last album where he had a story about him getting in trouble in the bathroom or

[48:20]whatever i don't i don't maybe i don't know i recall that maybe that was chuck berry

[48:23]paradise i i can't remember so but i i think i might listen to this song if i had to pick one

[48:32]song to listen to for the rest of my life it might be this song i mean yeah this is where the keys

[48:37]really work like he brings the keyboards to another level on this and there's like a real

[48:42]groove here and then when the hi-hat comes in forget it i mean i it's just like engrossing

[48:49]and it's like does this give you guys a little james brown vibe like a little

[48:53]more stank on his voice when he starts singing everything there's just a little bit more

[48:57]attitude right there's fun absolutely no doubt i'm not gonna go too negative but anything that uh

[49:06]who was the first album we did marvin gaye mark anything marvin gaye did is better than this song

[49:14]that whole album is better than this song my opinion here's what i'll say marvin gaye doesn't

[49:18]do that stevie wonder does rob i don't know if you guys if you can get to the end of the song when he

[49:23]is just melting it out rob i don't know if you can go and just play where stevie wonder is just

[49:27]crushing it at the end it's so cool he's got different vocal effects he can do just by himself

[49:31]here we go this is badass to me oh yeah but the marvin gaye parallels are interesting because a

[49:40]lot of what people think about with this album are is the message and he i think built on what

[49:48]marvin did with what's going on which was what 71 um because even i mean

[49:53]you know talking book i think started to get into this kind of thing and he's got i can't remember

[49:58]now he's got multiple richard nixon diss tracks but the next one might have been on the next album so

[50:02]i think he started to make social commentary more more important his music on this album where he

[50:09]hadn't done that before because he grew up in public life like he maybe wasn't always comfortable

[50:13]doing it i don't know one one other question did marvin gaye ever have a song with a laser beam in

[50:18]it because this song has a laser beam check out the laser beam by the way i just want to state

[50:22]very clearly i got an email from marvin gaye and he's like i don't know what's going on with this

[50:23]from russell laser beam here's a link to the song like how many songs have a laser beam in

[50:29]it it's crazy all right here we go listen to this listen to this

[50:32]what's with the laser beam right and this is four years before star wars comes out like

[50:46]this man was going to space when it was cool to go to space and it was well before george lucas went

[50:52]to space this is yeah

[50:53]this is next level stuff i am gonna say i agree with aaron if you get a chance to see a picture

[50:59]of stevie wonder around one of these synthesizers you need to look it up because it is probably one

[51:03]of the funniest things in the world these synthesizers are like the size of a room

[51:06]they're gigantic and there's just wires everywhere and like to literally make that sound he had to

[51:11]rewire it which is it's awesome really see that's cool yeah you know if he's like getting that deep

[51:16]into making those noises freaking laser making those names freaking laser beams now he's like

[51:23]actually this is

[51:23]the greatest album of all time i'm just trying i'm trying not to be negative all right listen uh

[51:29]what happens to the golden girls when they get older golden lady

[51:33]women golden women so this is just a straight up love song but is it okay to talk about the

[51:42]irony of the lyrics in this one of course it is of course like the whole our tens of listeners

[51:49]want to hear what the irony is well they're just a bunch of um

[51:53]not in this not in this spot but in the opening verse of the track there's a bunch of

[51:58]lyrics about looking in your eyes and kind of heaven eyes and he's talking about like a lot

[52:04]of like sight based it's really interesting to think about was he just doing love song tropes

[52:10]that he knew would play well with people who listen to love songs or was he trying to say

[52:14]something about being a non-sighted person it's to me it's very interesting as someone who's hit

[52:21]written a lot of hit parody songs i can tell you right now i'm not a fan of love songs i'm not a

[52:23]fan of love songs i'm not a fan of love songs i'm not a fan of love songs i'm not a fan of love songs

[52:24]rhymes with a lot of stuff i think that's the reason why you do it it rhymes with a ton

[52:27]what one thing i think i noticed most about this you were referencing the synthesizer earlier the

[52:33]clavinet that he used and he uses the clavinet on a future song but the thing that jumped out to me

[52:37]is the electric piano on this one and if you guys remember last week we talked electric piano on

[52:43]amy weinhaus we talked the world we were talking the whirlitzer yeah stevie wonder does not really

[52:48]rock a whirlitzer here he uses a fender rhodes oh i was hoping i could give you guys a little bit of

[52:53]history on the fender rhodes and we're gonna do a list i'm here for it this is all i care about

[52:58]country roads take me home

[53:03]last time we talked about the whirlitzer and that kind of had like a harsher sound

[53:13]whereas the fender rhodes is a little different so the whirlitzer they played

[53:17]metal reeds on a fend on a fender rhodes they play metal tines and there's a

[53:23]an outside amplifier so this sounds more like a bell if it's played softly compared to that

[53:29]harsher sound we heard last week so the really cool thing as i you guys have opened me up to

[53:35]jazz music right we've talked miles davis so one of the first one of the first artists to really

[53:41]make the fender rhodes popular is miles davis had his piano players use it on bitches brew

[53:46]yeah and so a couple of we're not going to play bitches brew for you guys because the songs are 20

[53:52]minutes and i can't

[53:53]figure out where in the song to find the fender rhodes but i was going to highlight a couple of

[53:59]miles davis's piano players to show where they've used the fender rhodes and song so

[54:03]this first song is herbie hancock check this song out it's called chameleon from 1973

[54:09]and i'm aaron i've actually heard this described as

[54:19]sounding like a glockenspiel a little bit the fender rhodes can sound like a glockenspiel

[54:23]yeah i can see i can feel that for sure herbie hancock is a youtube treasure trove if you can

[54:29]find any interview with herbie hancock he is such a marvelous person to just listen to talk herbie

[54:34]hancock said when he went in to play with miles davis for the first time he walked in and they

[54:40]had the electric piano and he never played it before so it was a completely new thing and then

[54:44]he ends up it's being it ends up being like a very consistent part of his act as these electric

[54:49]pianos going forward right that's and yeah that's amazing his career is just it's a it's

[54:53]a stunner for sure so another real quick one i wanted to show before we get further in the list

[54:58]is chick correa was go ahead i i hate to interrupt i hate to interrupt no please do first time ever

[55:03]long time listener first time interrupter probably the greatest vibrator name don't you think yes

[55:10]if i didn't say that i would have edited myself and say that later so i'm sorry i'm sorry i had

[55:16]not been not not as cool of a vibrator name would be chick correa who also played on bitches brew

[55:22]did he did he did he did he did he did he did he did

[55:23]check out chick correa this is the song called spain he just rocks this check this out it's

[55:28]from his album i think it's called return to forever this is the song called spain check this

[55:32]out nice oh yes oh yeah is that crazy or what people always talk about colors when they talk

[55:43]about chick correa he just passed i read a little bit about him when he passed and people talk

[55:48]about how he was able to get different colors in music and you can hear a different color in his

[55:53]roads than you heard in in herbie's also there's a really great album uh that's a herbie hancock

[55:59]chick correa live album with two of them together playing piano

[56:03]that's not that weird i like that over the top it's like jazz but one thing i had to do you guys

[56:11]know me i gotta give people real songs i can't just give them these jazz songs that no one's ever

[56:15]heard of so the next song on the list is we're gonna go to the doors this is riders on the storm

[56:22]off the album l.a.

[56:23]woman matt i think that's in the 300s somewhere

[56:25]so rayman zerick who was one of the founders of the doors essentially used to play two different

[56:37]types of electric pianos with two different hands and then he had this fender roads and he said

[56:42]essentially if there was no such thing as the fender roads there would have been no such thing

[56:46]as the doors i thought that was pretty cool right because they didn't have guitar right this was

[56:50]their main melodic

[56:53]outlet so i thought that was pretty cool the next one that is awesome is you guys remember the song

[56:59]lovely day by bill withers i'm gonna flip over a car yeah i love it flip over a car check this out

[57:04]here

[57:05]when i wake up in here comes

[57:12]ah yeah one of the most beautiful licks of all time does this guy does this make you kind of

[57:18]want to get a fender roads yes in your house 100 yes by the way

[57:23]i was i was gonna say russell i think this is a good date song like when you pick somebody up

[57:27]like on your hinge date this is a good one to have playing in the car

[57:31]i think slightly below that was this one you probably want to skip don't play this

[57:36]but if by the way great piano solo in this song but this is the end if you want to if you want

[57:43]to set the tone for a real date russell and you're just like fuck it we're gonna see where this date

[57:46]goes i gotta say that first song you gave us is spain i think if the girl gets in your car and

[57:52]you're playing this

[57:53]i think if the girl gets in your car and you're playing this

[57:53]she'd be like wait wait what's going on you just got some coke lined up on the dashboard you're

[57:58]like ready to go you're just like here's your sunglasses here's some cocaine let's go drive

[58:03]around what colors do you hear in this oh well after a date by the way my love language is dutch

[58:08]if i'm playing that i'm definitely gonna be the ruler of that date but if i'm not the ruler of

[58:15]the date we gotta put up the ruler of the roads have you guys heard of the ruler of the roads

[58:19]before no this is billy preston playing on get back

[58:23]by the beatles remember they're playing this up on the on the rooftop on let it be i believe it is

[58:30]he got started in the church

[58:36]so this came out to be like a staple of his music too with everything he did was the fender roads

[58:45]i'm going to get a fender roads and i'm going to play this song this rocks

[58:49]he played keys for aretha too i did not know he's called the ruler

[58:53]of the roads i've mentioned him as the fifth beetle many times and rob has smacked me down

[58:57]but i didn't know he was the ruler of the roads the ruler of the roads the last song on the list

[59:01]last week we talked about ray charles i don't remember what the song was it was that i don't

[59:05]know two-part song where he played the whirlitzer and what i say charles is more known for the

[59:09]whirlitzer because the whirlitzer came out about 10 years before before the fender roads but he

[59:14]has also rocked the fender roads on one of my favorite songs ever i know you guys like the

[59:23]what's the song called rob shake your tail feather on the blues brothers check this out

[59:27]yes

[59:31]oh that's nice badass right

[59:37]okay i was wrong about that song earlier all these songs we played are better than

[59:45]that song i realized now i apologize i mean this is good between last week looking at the world

[59:53]and now the fender rose and back-to-back albums these electric pianos are just badass there's

[59:58]something totally unique to music and this brings you back to like these 70s songs are right in this

[60:03]wheelhouse right yes oh my god it's so that sound is so great that's it's distinctive yeah oh

[60:09]wonderful russell i can't wait to see what next week's third electric piano list is i just can't

[60:15]wait i'm so excited actually i'll touch on this at higher ground because we're gonna have to save

[60:19]that for talking book on number 50 or whatever it is all right

[60:23]uh we've got higher ground well here you are when's d'angelo brown sugar because we can do

[60:29]the hammer b3 on that one so that's this is the clavinet at the beginning this is not the fender

[60:34]roads this is the different sound and that's more of like a funk sound right aaron so yeah

[60:38]when you think of it's edgy they use a clavinet aaron so you'll this sounds more like a lot of

[60:44]the funk that you're used to because it's the clavinet not the fender roads this song is so

[60:49]funky yeah and i i've said if i could play one of those songs i would play one of those songs

[60:53]one song on like a clavinet for example i think this would be it like if you could play that and

[60:58]just sit down and start playing that everybody would be like holy shit is that funky even if

[61:01]that's the only thing you could possibly play and it's wild to think that he laid that beat

[61:04]down with his fingers i mean he just he kept having to he had to just keep playing those

[61:08]notes right that's crazy oh i i brought my bass guitar one year to football preseason camp don't

[61:14]ask me why i'm a psychopath i don't know why i have no idea why i can't even play the bass very

[61:19]well i was not was it on the field with you or not oh it was in my dorm room with like

[61:23]me and a stranger that i didn't normally room with it makes no sense looking back i'd be like

[61:28]first of all where are my parents should my parents step in when i'm doing something that's

[61:32]stupid even though i'm like 22 years old at the time shouldn't they step in and be like rob this

[61:35]is stupid you shouldn't do this rob they've got a lot of other of your poor decisions that they

[61:39]probably had to weed out and that was not in the top 10 list so no my parents are real close to

[61:44]getting the spanking of the week i'm gonna have to think about it it might happen next week

[61:47]but uh i will say that one of the guys i played football with named pete he was a literally he was

[61:53]a bass player in a jazz band and he came in and picked up my bass guitar and played higher ground

[61:59]on the bass that bass line just like the red hot chili peppers do and you're hearing it in the

[62:02]background right now oh yes and it blew my mind and it also made me realize that i should not

[62:10]have brought a bass guitar to a music school when i cannot fucking play the thing

[62:14]i swear to god if i haven't had so many dumb hobbies i would like be good at something

[62:20]you know what i mean like i would be like

[62:23]oh well this song got up to number four on the charts top can you believe that only number four

[62:29]it's only best song best song on the album right i yeah absolutely yeah well i live in for the

[62:35]city that other one the greatest song ever no i know i've changed my mind i've next week my

[62:40]parents and i we're both getting double spankings it's gonna be it's gonna be like this my dad's

[62:45]spanking me i'm yes i'm why are they getting spanked i'm spanking because they didn't help

[62:50]me out when i make bad decisions so it's gonna be like a spanking

[62:53]triangle my dad's spanking me i'm spanking my mom and my mom's spanking my dad i don't like this

[62:57]how would i set up that triangle better okay i'm gonna think about that i'll let you guys

[63:01]know how that works out next week mom is spanking jenny

[63:04]are you gonna be playing the sound effects too rob or not no none of these jokes are

[63:11]funny anymore now that i realize i'm talking about my parents so here's the deal fourth on

[63:16]the chart third on the errands mom third on the chart get a rob's mom sound bite this by the way

[63:21]is in late october 1970

[63:23]i went and looked this up third on the chart in front of this let's get it on

[63:27]rambling man

[63:31]all playing in the background oh what a dumb amount of work i just gave myself with this

[63:37]and one is shares that we don't even know if i know that song you sing it for me rob

[63:43]i only know that because bretta would sing that song every time for her karaoke

[63:49]but it's like it's a it's a nothing song yet it

[63:53]beat out this for the first spot it's it's crazy by the way song number five angie by the rowan

[63:57]stones song number six is that lady who's that lady by the the eiseley brothers like let's keep

[64:02]going let's go all the way down let's go through the whole 100 what an awesome week to be in like

[64:07]listening to the radio like you dumbasses you just hear those good songs over and over it'd be so

[64:12]great yeah man uh all right let's get to jesus children of america hello jesus subtle well it

[64:23]is interesting though that he calls it jesus children and he talks about transcendental

[64:26]meditation he's talking about experimenting with eastern religion uh because he's he's deeper

[64:33]religious right and yet the song is calling out like what he saw is fake religion or fake

[64:39]it's kind of saying whatever i think he's experimenting at this point in his life i think

[64:45]he's open right i think he's open to other ideas i mean higher grounds about reincarnation so i think

[64:50]he's kind of searching

[64:53]i think he was also getting into drugs a bit so that might have explained some things too

[64:56]do you guys have you guys ever meditated you guys meditate at all i have tried

[65:01]deleted it yeah the app he deleted it free app came with ads every five minutes and i and i and

[65:09]i and i always thought there was something wrong with me like that i can't do that you know but

[65:12]there's plenty of people out there so anybody out there they tried meditating and they haven't got

[65:18]it to work don't feel ashamed because everybody tells you you should do it some people just can't

[65:22]do it

[65:23]i've done peloton sleep meditation before yeah and it's it's just basically people being like

[65:28]you're obviously pretty rich if you bought a peloton so

[65:32]lots of bad things can happen to you you'll be fine don't worry about it

[65:38]you will get through but actually there's a nightmare because you can see

[65:42]russ on peloton you can high five people by pushing their picture and on this app you can

[65:47]see other people doing the sleep meditation and i accidentally touched it to high five somebody

[65:52]during the sleep meditation and i was like oh my god i'm gonna die i'm gonna die i'm gonna die i'm gonna die

[65:53]sleep meditation so i was like high five and i'll be like yeah great job with that sleep meditation

[65:57]clean let's keep that sleep meditation up you're going slow sleepy oh and then they couldn't sleep

[66:01]the whole night they think they were like so stoked from rob's high five well maybe they're

[66:05]maybe their love language is physical touch did you guys know that in uh 2017 beck released his

[66:14]13th album called colors all right and he and his producer greg kirsten uh who also he started out

[66:21]as a keyboardist in 2003 and then uh turned into like this mega producer kind of in the teens and

[66:27]so he and his producer essentially played every instrument on that whole album well but so i just

[66:33]gotta ask i mean i do have to ask when it comes to playing every instrument on your own album who

[66:38]does it better i'm gonna say steve all of that stevie did it better on this one so

[66:46]what was our joke earlier about something about shit what was

[66:51]the shit joke this podcast is shitty yeah hey hey aaron that that stomping on the beck did it

[67:01]better take that was shit but you know what aaron what kind of fuckery is this i will say uh i do

[67:11]think now my love language is being told what to do and then my that i'm wrong about things uh all

[67:16]and so not funny all in love is fair all in rob's love language is fair

[67:21]that's right my love language is is fairs you got mini donuts you got rides you got demolition

[67:28]derbies be quiet stevie you got all these things that i love in fairs i think that's great by the

[67:35]way another love song don't need it uh don't you worry about a thing now this starts off with a

[67:40]part where he's speaking spanish to a woman oh jesus whoa that's so loud uh but he's he's starting

[67:47]to speak in the beginning of this song he's starting to speak spanish to this woman then he

[67:51]oh yeah i've been everywhere paris peru i was like really you're breaking out peru is like the one

[67:55]place i rock i ran yeah yeah i was like wait is stevie wonder a spy for the cia oh that'd be fun

[68:02]i've been to cuba i've killed a man with my bare hands strongest association with this song though

[68:07]is the jet ski scene in the movie hitch which i've seen far too many times

[68:13]no please stop talking aaron just stop talking there you guys haven't seen hitch

[68:21]will smith yeah there's a great scene where he takes

[68:24]i swear to god i swear to god if you're gonna describe the jet ski scene and you're gonna say

[68:34]that will smith is on a jet ski and that song is playing you don't need to do that you fucking said

[68:39]it's the jet ski scene in hitch we can imagine what it looks like is it any different were you

[68:43]gonna say something different stop talking i don't know there's nothing else to say it's just

[68:46]i've seen well now stop talking god aaron figure it out right too too bad rob's not mr know-it-all

[68:51]to putting the sound bites in the right spot huh i'll tell you what i'm mr yes at all

[68:56]i like this song

[69:01]all about and this one is mr no is there electric piano on this one or is it acoustic piano seems

[69:10]like different instrumentation on this one so this is supposed to be like a disc track of

[69:15]president nixon right 100 yeah and it sounds like i think it sounds like the happiest thing of all

[69:19]time i'm just gonna say that this is a

[69:21]disc track about me i'd be thrilled aaron this does not have the fender or the clavinet this is

[69:26]a regular piano and then the synth or the moog so it's not the fender that we were talking about

[69:31]earlier it sounds different than the rest of the album now he had two albums in a row where he

[69:37]dissed nixon because it was this one and then he did um you haven't done nothing um which is like

[69:42]a little more funky and maybe in your face but i would never i would never know that was a disc

[69:47]track no i didn't almost sounds like you're singing happy birthday to president but isn't that

[69:51]the real charm of a true disc track is you don't even know what's happening to you like i think

[69:56]that's that's what makes it cool yeah it's like smiling in your face and then you're actually

[70:00]telling somebody to eat shit yes it's slightly less subtle it's a little more subtle than that

[70:06]wootank track where they're talking about sticking a hot wire up your ass for a while

[70:09]i don't know what i know hey everybody let's get into everybody's favorite part the rating system

[70:15]and now it's time for everybody's favorite part of the show

[70:21]the patent and very popular beck did it better rating system i know it's getting late because i

[70:29]was looking at the word rating and i was like ratting how can i make a joke about ratting and

[70:34]i was like you can't you can't make a joke about ratting you need to let these guys talk it's

[70:38]getting late let this podcast end oh my god so much editing i have to do uh all right uh so guys

[70:45]our rating system of course is very simple is this is this is the 34th album on the list is this a

[70:51]well-toned that means it is perfect at 34 listen did it used to be at 12 or something yes it got

[70:57]bumped back to 34 people were like stevie get back there you're still great but but we need you back

[71:02]there uh that means it's well-toned if you think it's 34 it's awesome it's great is this a rolling

[71:09]boned did this get rolling boned it should be way higher than 34 you can't believe it's back at 34

[71:14]this is ridiculous it should be a lower number and therefore higher up on the list and earlier

[71:19]in this podcast or is this a rolling groan

[71:21]you don't like it you don't care for it we should be covering this next week we should be covering

[71:25]this and by the way in 2025 when we'll almost be up to episode 100 uh not to not to depress you guys

[71:31]but what do you think matt give me your rating on this well i think if it's rolling well i'm going

[71:36]to have to say that this is going to be rolling groaned and um i think this should be higher on

[71:43]the list which means it's a low lower on the list which means it has a higher number that's right

[71:48]it's so simple okay it's finally getting down here we go

[71:51]uh rating system russ what do you think rolling well toned rolling bone or rolling groan

[71:55]i think the really interesting thing to me is you have to give him so much credit for playing all

[72:00]the instruments on this there's not a lot of albums where someone is just if this is a complete

[72:04]one-man show and it's absolutely amazing i really love the second half of too high i love higher

[72:10]ground i love living in the city but for me there are too many songs that are too slow so i'm going

[72:16]to follow matt and say rolling groan but i did really enjoy the keyboards and a lot of the album

[72:21]uh rating system rosie what do you think yeah i've wrestled with this as we've uh been listening

[72:27]to this one because as i said it was for a long time my favorite stevie wonder album i'm sure

[72:33]it's still the one that i've listened to the most um and when you wrestled with it it is true that

[72:37]your favorite wrestling move is where you burp and say you've had way too much sushi you ate like

[72:41]a pig yeah and then do the atomic leg drop immediately following but i as i said i i

[72:47]couldn't anymore necessarily choose between this one talking book music

[72:51]my mind and fulfilling this first finale but all of that aside it's a monumental achievement i

[72:57]still love it the only song that to me is a skipper is all's fair in love everything else

[73:03]is an absolute classic and so um some album from stevie wonder should have been at this spot

[73:08]from any one of those uh uh that this run that he had so i'm going to say it is rolling

[73:14]well toned would you shut the fuck up about the suez canal

[73:17]like we're done talking about the suez canal

[73:21]you're obsessed with that shit how does my door dash driver get through the canal how do these

[73:26]people eat right what are they doing for fun did they run out of like have they already read all

[73:31]the books that are on board like do they have internet i don't even know have they i'm gonna

[73:36]i'm gonna update my my profile immediately to reference the suez canal and just see what the

[73:40]results are can you imagine being on a boat with aaron in the suez canal and he's like have you

[73:45]guys read all these books on board like no we have been shooting at pirates this whole time

[73:50]what have you been doing

[73:51]i'm gonna be worrying about a lot of things as stevie wonder once said if i put the suez canal

[73:55]on my dating app listen these pirates are trying to come on and steal all these bike seats or

[74:00]whatever we're transporting to the united states like plastic things that you're gonna find in

[74:04]cereal boxes like who cares the pirates are gonna come take them we're trying to shoot people aaron's

[74:08]reading the all right i just restated the joke uh listen guys this gets a rolling instrumentation

[74:13]oh yeah yes he played all of them it's unbelievable and he is so talented and uh slate ran a great

[74:21]series a while ago said musicians that we should respect because they're still alive and stevie

[74:26]wonder was the first one yes it's like yes you you do have to you do have to appreciate that he

[74:31]he had this run in the early 70s of just crushing it over and over and over and whether it's your

[74:37]kind of music or not you i do think putting it if you compare it to those other songs i talked

[74:43]about earlier there this the sound is absolutely mind-blowing it'd be copied it would be imitated

[74:48]but it's it's it's it's pretty unbelievable for what he came out with at the time but it's it's

[74:49]it's it's pretty unbelievable for what he came out with at the time but it's it's it's it's it's pretty

[74:50]unbelievable for what he came out with at the time but it's it's it's it's it's pretty unbelievable for what he came

[74:51]out with at the time listen that's it for this week next week though we've got beatles rubber soul

[74:57]tax man wait don't do that one yes yes we did are you seriously asking if we did that one i don't

[75:04]remember that i don't remember doing it either i remember everything and it tears me up inside

[75:09]so next up we got an album that has really led to my life philosophy okay there's a song on this

[75:17]album it makes me think about who i am it guides me anytime i ask a question like should i do this

[75:20]or should i not and i just think to myself don't stop till you get enough because we're

[75:25]talking about michael jackson's off the wall next week when you want to hear about the greatest

[75:31]albums of all time last michael jackson album definitely led to me not having a fourth date

[75:38]with someone so oh damn it i love that so much and then they get off track

[75:43]i've got the perfect podcast for you jack

[75:50]did it better so i have another mini list of artists that are on the top 500 that would
