[00:00]in 2020 four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by

[00:04]rolling stone magazine this resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the

[00:09]order and led us to making this podcast we are far from experts we promise to do almost no research

[00:14]all opinions are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy beck did it better

[00:19]we are all the way up to album four zero david bowie the rise and fall of ziggy stardust all

[00:26]right so guys i don't know if you knew this but david bowie released an expanded version of this

[00:30]album and i was really surprised with some of the songs he put on i i want to i this one it was just

[00:35]such a coincidence for a podcast i couldn't believe it let's listen to it what's up everybody

[00:39]welcome to k-rob k-rob

[00:41]it's our favorite part of the show

[00:56]yeah we all want to know

[00:59]it's got me feeling all right i just want to know what brussels drinking tonight

[01:05]just hold up your drink and let us all take a look

[01:19]just tell all the fans what it is we're thinking and that is what brussels drinking

[01:26]we all want to know but i think i have an inkling

[01:29]yeah what brussels drinking what's he got

[01:33]he's in a shot when you want

[01:39]but you're just

[01:44]it's finally coming around you're famous you're famous

[01:52]i've got the perfect

[01:56]back did it better all right what's up everybody this is beck did it better i'm here with three

[02:04]guys that find themselves stuck making 10 years of podcasts with me and my god-given ass i've got

[02:11]matt in minneapolis matt how are you doing good rob doing well thanks for having me good i'm

[02:17]feeding off that energy aaron and on the west coast how are you doing aaron i'm doing great

[02:21]i have an alternate persona for tonight's podcast i am soggy sawdust with the spiders in my garage

[02:27]why is your sawdust soggy what did you stop up

[02:35]soggy sawdust was my nickname in high school a lot of people don't know that

[02:38]uh thanks guys for playing off that so i'm glad that the podcast started off to a strong start

[02:46]so once again i don't know what i have to do to get you guys to talk about the podcast i got

[02:50]russell in minnesota russell how are you doing

[02:51]rob keep your mouth shut you're squawking like a pink monkey bird and i'm busting up my brains

[02:57]for these words all right and i did have a note here i totally forgot because aaron is normally

[03:02]the last one introduced and we've got aaron on the west coast who thinks that major biden should

[03:05]be put to sleep oh aaron why would you say that just because i gotta edit that back in earlier

[03:11]so i do want to tell everybody what happened before the song that you heard i did make two

[03:15]songs this week that we will not air you will not hear if you want them just email me at

[03:21]back to the better at gmail.com and i'll send you two of the dirtiest david bowie songs you've

[03:27]ever heard in your entire life uh and they were disrespectful to my co-hosts they were

[03:32]disrespectful to my co-host family and if you want to hear them just email me and i'll send

[03:35]them to you but that might come up on the podcast i'm assuming i'm going to get lots of compliments

[03:39]for how many things i could rhyme with the word pie so i was pretty impressed by that and city

[03:44]and and city it turns out there's a lot of body body parts that rhyme with city

[03:49]you would maybe not be surprised

[03:51]that i would figure that out before we get into the next segment um i do want to know matt said

[03:58]you can't judge someone and you can this may or may not work but matt said you can't judge someone

[04:03]off of three minutes of your life but right if someone were going to judge you off of three

[04:07]minutes of your life what three minutes would you choose what are they where where would you

[04:11]want someone to to drop the the needle and watch the three minutes of your life i think if you

[04:17]really wanted a snapshot into what my life was like it would be this morning when i was

[04:21]uh i had woken up early and then i had proceeded to lay in bed and scroll through instagram twitter

[04:27]and facebook over and over and over until it was i was then 10 minutes late vr goggles on or vr

[04:33]goggles off on or off rob where were the goggles and where was the horizon yeah the goggles were

[04:39]getting off you know what i mean but you know the thing is is that i i then said okay i think if you

[04:45]just took the three minutes where i said i'm gonna get out of this bed and then i just did it i i said

[04:51]out loud i'm going to stop doing this and i just didn't and i was like okay well there's my life in

[04:55]a nutshell like oh here's a change in my life i should make and then i'm just like that's summed

[05:00]up medium amount of work i don't think i'm actually actually do that rosie i think i think you you

[05:04]would take it probably the same what i would you know hanging out with your family or hanging out

[05:07]with your kid and you know we're gonna really you know be serious about this you'd let's say you

[05:13]could tell who you really are and you know how you treat other people things like that oh my god are

[05:17]you saying the way i talk to my family is who i really am i'm a monster

[05:21]an absolute monster i tell them i tell them things i would never say to other people i think you

[05:25]could find out a lot of people if you go to the grocery store and sit in line with them or something

[05:30]like that and just see how they treat people they don't know and then people who are quote unquote

[05:34]the help and they're not the help but people treat them like the help and i think if you've got three

[05:39]minutes of anybody in a grocery store and see how they treat people you'd get a pretty good idea of

[05:42]who they are you know aaron was going off the other day after the show about how he doesn't

[05:46]think that people that cash register should sit down he thinks they should always be standing at

[05:49]the checkout i don't think that's right for me if anyone could judge me off of three minutes i could

[05:54]choose my two greatest athletic achievements that stand out to me one is oh we gotta pause i have no

[06:00]idea what these like i've played enough intramural sports with aaron and i can't imagine what these

[06:04]two things could be one when i was 14 i hit an absolute no doubt home run knew it was gone off

[06:10]the bat i'm sorry chris nickel i don't know if you're i don't know if you're listening oh hold

[06:13]on was this over a over a fence or was it just where outfielders had to keep running over a fence

[06:19]put my head straight down and went into the trot that's my moment number one did you pimp it or not

[06:24]did you unbuckle the the franklin batting gloves or anything or no i did it i did it just very

[06:29]business-like i was like i knew that ball's gone because it was a short porch in left field anyway

[06:33]but i knew the ball was gone you put that bat so far they couldn't find it and i just i just went

[06:39]into my trot i would have i would have undone those black franklin batting gloves and pimp that

[06:43]my buddy josh he's a my buddy josh just got his kids some franklin batting gloves and he was

[06:49]telling us all about it and i was like oh my god i'm so sorry i'm so sorry i'm so sorry i'm so sorry

[06:49]bringing us back to the old days you gotta pimp that aaron you gotta pimp that home run

[06:53]oh matt's matt's getting so mad at you just saying that russell he's just thinking about people

[06:57]and then my next greatest athletic achievement was when my son was a baby and we were at the

[07:01]wine shop and it was supposed to rain that day so we had our umbrella but it turned out to be sunny

[07:06]and we left the wine shop and and i immediately put the umbrella up to keep the sun off the baby's

[07:12]head and it was a smooth transition from inside the wine shop to having the umbrella up outside

[07:16]to keep the sun off the baby's head nobody got hurt

[07:19]made it back home safely so those two moments for me that adds up to three minutes that's what

[07:23]i'd want someone to i'm gonna repeat that story on my next first date and say i am capable of

[07:27]putting an umbrella over a baby's head in case it's sunny this is my athletic achievement i want

[07:32]to say i want to say two things i am begging aaron's wife to listen to that story and say

[07:37]that i shouldn't be making fun of him i want you to email me and say don't make fun of him for

[07:42]telling that story i dare you i dare you to email me and say that there's no way what's her name

[07:49]listen i don't want to say the names that's such an invasion of privacy such an invasion of privacy

[07:54]does it rhyme with suffragette city i don't see my oh i you know what my i'll tell i have a softball

[08:01]story for you guys i pitched in a in a slow pitch softball league with a bunch of it was me and then

[08:07]a bunch of guys who were in seminary learning how to be pastors oh boy yes they were the worst

[08:12]softball players you have ever seen in your life like there's a reason that like you don't see like

[08:17]jose canseco or someone going into the priesthood because he can do something these guys could not

[08:21]do anything i was absolutely 100 the most talented person on this team it wasn't even close then you

[08:27]got people like charlie from cannon falls that all of a sudden he's like pitching professionally you

[08:32]know like he's like the one guy but yeah go ahead yeah well he wasn't on this team so i was by far

[08:36]the best and so what ended up happening was we were playing this team of absolute psychopaths

[08:41]they eventually got kicked out of the league but they were just nuts like they were they pulled up

[08:45]and they had like special bats and like

[08:47]you know they had like cleats and not flip-flops no the key is do they have bags that they hang on

[08:53]the fence of the field if you have bags that hang on the fence you are you're a legit player yeah

[09:00]and they're playing in like the c league against a bunch of pastors and me the most athletic guy

[09:05]in the team rob's rob's traveling daredevil team rob were you the most were you quote unquote the

[09:10]most athletic guy that played catcher or where did you play when you say you're the most athletic

[09:14]guy where did you play in the field this was the year where i didn't play in the field i didn't

[09:17]have a job so i was playing a ton of bocce ball just bocce ball every day all day long so i realized

[09:23]that i could transition from a professional bocce ball player into a slow pitch pitcher because i

[09:29]could throw it up and hit things like i did in bocce ball and i also would spin it different

[09:33]directions like i would spin it so it would go like this and i called it the eye because if you

[09:37]looked at it you got hypnotized anyway you guys can't see what i'm doing but i'm doing something

[09:40]very cool but what so so and that kind of led me to the problem is that we were playing this team

[09:47]like was was throwing a ball to my teammate cory or cory i'll just say and he threw it too hard

[09:53]no i'm on your team hang on like the guy that's like won the national high jump and d3

[10:03]rob rob you couldn't you couldn't high jump over the cupcake you ate before you got on this podcast

[10:11]let's not say you're the most athletic guy it's like i'm the most athletic guy here and oh yeah

[10:15]adrian peterson

[10:17]he was uh second i'm gonna post a video to their instagram the beck did a better instagram of me

[10:22]high jumping over things you guys are gonna be sorry because it's gonna be the most viewed video

[10:25]of all time all right finish your story about being the second most athletic softball player

[10:30]so anyway i'm the guy on the team that had the biggest dick and vasante shanko sent over there

[10:35]he's not quite as big as i am

[10:37]classic big dick guy classic big dick pull vasante shanko

[10:45]you

[10:47]poster guy he had a richard

[10:49]you know what you guys are right we don't just do this podcast for ourselves we're definitely

[10:57]thinking about other people laughing at the reference to vasante shanko a tight end of the

[11:01]vikings had i don't know 10 years ago who was once photographed nude in and he was next to a reporter

[11:07]who was nude and his enormous dong i mean it looks like a horse it literally looked like a horse

[11:12]it looked like an elephant down to like his kneecap getting a drink at the lake

[11:20]it was unbelievable he definitely used the pencil method in the back he definitely had a pencil it's

[11:25]like a baby's arm oh my god unbelievable all right let's finish your story about you being

[11:31]the second most athletic anything but vasante shanko's dong um so so he he we the ball like

[11:40]rolled to their bench and they whipped it at cory dangles just whipped it at him and i was like what

[11:44]the fuck like so in my mind i was like if this was a baseball game i would fucking drill these guys i

[11:50]would just throw the ball right at this guy because he was coming up to bat i would just hit him

[11:53]no problem can't do it it's slow pitch doesn't work that well so instead i had a brilliant idea

[11:59]of just not pitching to him at all just sure i love this idea it's three strike i think so i

[12:06]pitch it and i pitch it three feet short of the plate and the guy thinks it's because he hit just

[12:12]an absolute ramrod dong rainmaker off me the inning before not the case getting home run hit

[12:19]off you and slow pitch softball does not affect your psyche one bit because it's just like pitch

[12:24]boom you're like yeah what am i supposed to do you know i can only throw it because there was

[12:28]a height limit too so i couldn't just throw it super high so i throw it two feet short the guy

[12:32]goes what the fuck and the whole bench just starts yelling and they start yelling and calling me

[12:37]every name for somebody who's fat in the book just everything just letting me have it meanwhile they

[12:42]don't know my superpower is i've already heard everything they could possibly say and as long

[12:46]as they don't call me blobbert for five years of my life like my sisters did i'll be fine don't

[12:50]worry about that so here's the thing is that then the second pitch right even just even like five

[12:57]feet away from the plate just not even close just way way short because the one thing these guys

[13:01]want to do is just rip it

[13:02]in a slow pitch league if they walk it's like a disgusting insult to their masculinity so sure

[13:09]enough i get the ball back third pitch i bet it's eight feet short just not even close the guy runs

[13:15]up with the bat and hits it and of course it goes right to the short stop and he proceeds to 100%

[13:22]miss it it goes right through his legs because as i said earlier the team was absolutely terrible

[13:26]guy gets on first he goes yeah you fed fuck i'm on first base the ump goes the ump goes out

[13:32]stepped out of the batter's box you're out yes so i said oh god that's so weird if you're so good

[13:37]why aren't you on first base okay so first of all that's the best insult i came up with that's the

[13:41]real insult i used my whole life i'm like i could have come up with such a better insult to insult

[13:45]that guy i couldn't do adult softball is a hell of a drug i know matt you and i we played on the

[13:50]same teams for a year or two and they're matt's a better athlete than i am he played you know real

[13:54]sports at some point in his life but i remember playing in a co-ed softball league and our team

[13:59]was getting crushed one game like we're down like 30 minutes and i'm like oh my god i'm gonna do it

[14:02]35 to nothing they're hitting home runs every single time and i'm up there and i'm pitching

[14:07]and we're just getting destroyed and i'm just i'm fed up and and i start throwing and i threw

[14:12]a couple like not straight down the plate so they're balls and they start taking them they're

[14:18]not swinging and i was like oh fuck this you're up 35 to nothing and not swinging next guy comes

[14:24]up i literally roll the fucking ball at the plate three straight times i just roll it at them and

[14:30]everyone's yelling at me i'm like hey you're not

[14:32]gonna do it

[14:32]swing and you're killing us by 30 this is what you get well that seems like you just took my

[14:38]story made your own story that's fucking bullshit yeah i made it better you should have rolled that

[14:42]shit rob let's do it russ did it better all right we're only about a half hour in the podcast so

[14:49]it's time to get into rolling going two minutes it's time to see what everybody's up to it's time

[14:58]for rolling going

[15:00]so i'm

[15:02]gonna go first for rolling one because mine is actually really good so here's the deal

[15:05]in one of the last episodes i realized that we were talking about um i actually i was talking

[15:11]to a friend and i was telling about my coach that we previously talked about who is now a

[15:16]polyamorous coach and i realized that uh in that conversation with the friend i said it would have

[15:24]been great if i would have stayed with that coach who went from power lifting to polyamory it would

[15:28]have meant less benching and more frenching yeah

[15:32]and i immediately was so disappointed that i didn't use that on the podcast and instead i used it in

[15:37]some place where i'm not being recorded i just think that that should be our apology of the

[15:42]week that you missed a joke and i used it later not recorded it's embarrassing absolutely nobody

[15:49]you're apologizing to all our fans if you didn't get one of the best oh yeah hey rob rob at least

[15:56]you at least you didn't email your co-host and ask if you should splice it in and act like you

[16:00]said it during the the pod right i do that all the time i'm putting in jokes that i have later

[16:04]that's why the jokes are so good in this podcast i'm taking the time to edit them in the other

[16:10]thing i wanted to say is that i have been starting i have been watching the last couple days

[16:14]i've been watching the nfl draft and so i thought tonight we're going to do our own

[16:22]beck did it better draft we're going to take four items we are going to go uh love it oh kind of

[16:28]stops quickly there we're going to go up and down uh in a snake draft order we have four things

[16:33]that we're going to draft so tonight in the beck did a better draft let's get into what we're going

[16:37]to draft right off the top of your head we're taking what is the best breakfast food what do

[16:42]you think what is the best breakfast food russell with the first pick in the breakfast food draft

[16:52]i'm going to take an egg mcmuffin from mcdonald's i'm going an egg mcmuffin

[16:57]ah straight

[16:58]out of the university of clemson it's got a great 40 time leaves you feeling good for many hours

[17:05]not true actually high carb everything you want it's everything you want i love it uh five to a

[17:13]player rosie you're up next what are we taking for any breakfast food i know you probably don't

[17:16]care about this you don't give a shit about breakfast food but what do you think i care a

[17:19]lot i would i'm upset that he cares off the board but with egg mcmuffin off the board i'm going to

[17:23]take everything bagel with cream cheese and lox

[17:25]everything's bagel with cream cheese and lox

[17:28]oh that's good everything bagel cream cheese and lox so good matt what do you have in your

[17:33]draft for best breakfast food every greasy spoon has it the all-american breakfast the hometown

[17:41]plate the tremendous 12 whatever you want to call it just i'm gonna go straight up a couple eggs

[17:46]a bunch of thick bacon some hash browns oh yeah you gotta have you gotta have a big wingspan on

[17:53]that bacon it's gotta be a big wingspan you got it you got it so i'm just gonna go with the old

[17:57]all-american breakfast

[17:58]all right and with the fourth pick in the breakfast draft i am going to take

[18:04]eggs benedict you guys are idiots you didn't take eggs benedict eggs benedict is the easy

[18:10]it's good for breakfast it's good for brunch you can't make it at home you gotta order it out it's

[18:15]too hard to make it home that that's the that's the rich man's answer right there that's the rich

[18:20]man's answer eggs benedict everyone else is taking like the three dollar meal at the fast food

[18:25]restaurant rob wants his holiday sauce

[18:28]and that is the end of round one i could go 12 rounds on a breakfast draft that's

[18:33]fantastic we're going to the second round of the draft i could go hear the sound i have for the end

[18:37]of the draft i was like this could close up most conversations don't you think like yeah hey how's

[18:43]the date going yeah it didn't go very well all right well i could i could use that for a long

[18:50]time now well see you later yeah and then chris burman's in the background the whole time

[18:58]you show up nobody circles the wagon like the buffalo bills and russ on this terrible date

[19:05]you show up for a date and she's like oh is that what you're wearing today and you just hear

[19:08]all right so this is over this date is done for all right we're gonna go for the best

[19:13]nickname for a penis best nickname for a penis uh ross you're up first what do you think is the

[19:20]best i already had the first pick i feel like i should get more time to think

[19:23]best name for a penis what do you think russell

[19:28]i'm gonna go this is probably gonna have to get cut too this goes out to my buddy trevor

[19:35]who there's a basketball player on the timberwolves named gorgie gorgie jang and he used to always

[19:41]call him gorgeous don so i'm gonna say the best nickname for a penis is a gorgeous dong that's

[19:47]what i'm gonna start calling my penis all right rosie you're up what do you think is the best

[19:50]nickname for a penis i think dong is a good one though it rolls off the tongue fairly well

[19:54]uh-oh rosie disconnected you got too embarrassed by the

[19:58]question rosie what do you think is the best nickname for a penis uh you guys know that i'm a

[20:03]huge fan of the mid-aughts to teens i don't know when it happened the fox show new girl

[20:11]and so i can't claim this one but uh damon wayans jr says that he calls his his sam jackson because

[20:17]it's been in everything oh that was the skill of the draft right there matt what do you think what

[20:27]is the best nickname for a penis

[20:28]uh fire hose let's go oh my god that's good yeah i think we found out who have the podcast is a big

[20:36]dong a fire hose for me that'd be like you know the big guy named tiny like it's like the joke

[20:43]name fire hose uh and i will say i didn't even think about this i'm gonna say trouser snake i

[20:51]that always made me giggle when i heard trousers all right last round in the draft we are drafting

[20:57]uh which one of our

[20:58]wives would you draft and i'm gonna pick russell's wife that that is that is the wife i would prefer

[21:03]right now that's going my number one pick whoever russell is married to right now that would be my

[21:07]wife matt which wife would you pick in this draft i i'm gonna go jenny i think jenny uh sounds like

[21:13]she'd be a lot of fun to live with and uh i mean you guys you guys go out have a good time and yeah

[21:19]i'm gonna go jenny all right aaron who would you pick in this draft taking my wife choose her every

[21:25]day you guys know what a bunch of bullshit

[21:28]aaron's wife is like his left tackle though he's she's always protected his blind side when he gets

[21:35]made fun of she's there to step in she's filling up that's russell who do you take in the wife

[21:40]draft with mrs irrelevant in the draft i'm gonna have to take matt's wife sarah she lives in my

[21:45]same zip code i can't pay the california state taxes to mary anna out in california new york's

[21:52]a little too busy with me so i'm gonna i'm gonna take mrs irrelevant sarah out in minneapolis

[21:59]minnesota so next up uh rolling going man how's it going with you uh good i'll keep it pretty short

[22:08]i don't even know how we start like right going how's it going with you at this point

[22:13]i'm uh it turns out i'm a fraud as most things driving down the street the other day uh grandma

[22:20]and grandpa had their little

[22:22]three-year-old granddaughter on her bike you know and i slowed down to let them go

[22:26]i literally said oh shit to myself yeah like here i am i'm a fraud so i believe you call that we

[22:34]call that a hypocrite but i did you know they kind of wavy i did go pretty quick so i didn't

[22:40]do the double wave like no no you go you go but you stopped and waved to him and then when they

[22:44]didn't go you peeled out like really like aggressively i'm watching uh a show that i'd

[22:49]never heard of but somebody recommended to me called

[22:52]fountain

[22:52]f-a-u-d-a what's it about um it's it's israeli it's about the israeli palestine conflict and

[23:00]it's essentially if you've seen the shield back in the day with michael chiklis great one of my

[23:05]favorites it's like uh it's like the shield except instead of cops and bad guys it's palestinians

[23:12]and israelites and it's great it's it's it's great so fowda and then um uh last thing i got on my

[23:17]list is how do we get to the point where we don't know how to get to the point where we don't know

[23:22]if you need uh on if you're calling leaving a message on a cell phone or something anymore

[23:27]where it says like stop don't do that after the beep please you know leave your message after the

[23:32]beat if you need uh want to leave your number press two if you need more press you know how

[23:37]do we just get it so it just beeps we don't have to go through that anymore like aren't we aren't

[23:41]we far enough along with cell phones and messages mind controlled artificial intelligence right i

[23:46]think that's the next step it's gonna be mind controlled ai i think it's coming no no no no i

[23:51]cannot have mind controlled stuff being controlling computers that i'm running that would be an

[23:56]absolute disaster i would be fired almost immediately that would be so bad so i don't know

[24:03]i'm just i'm sick of waiting through those messages and i just want to hang up instead

[24:06]of leaving messages anymore but so when are you leaving messages what's going on what you're

[24:10]sick of work i could call people at work a lot i don't know um you know and you gotta leave

[24:15]messages and everything but why can't don't you think we just know by now that if if you call

[24:20]rings and it goes to beep you just know that that's message time matt in the in the dating

[24:26]world i think the way this works is if they block your number after one ring it goes right to

[24:30]voicemail and so if it goes right to voicemail you know that you're blocked so you don't have

[24:35]to deal with too many rings it just goes right to the voicemail they don't even ever have to hear

[24:39]i'm gonna time this because it's like it's like eight rings and then it's like a voicemail message

[24:44]like hi you've reached rob i can't come to the phone right now please leave a message after the

[24:49]tone and i'll get back to you as soon as i can

[24:50]oh and make it a great day and it's like how about just beep and then you know that's i don't

[24:55]know i don't know that's my that's my uh that's all i got for rolling going this week if somebody

[25:00]could figure that out for me i'd be if i got hired for a job and i wouldn't care what they

[25:04]could be like hey you're gonna make a half a million dollars a year you have to sit here for

[25:07]this job and then they were like you need to call people on the phone i'd be like well i'll see you

[25:11]guys later yeah uh it's been good knowing you i think i'm going to oh i'm so busy right now i

[25:16]it's absolute the idea of calling somebody is an absolute nightmare to me it's the worst

[25:20]days there's yeah there's days where i'm on the phone for hours and it gets long now aaron you

[25:26]you're a phone sex operator that calls women at home and sees that they want to do phone sex so

[25:31]how does that work yeah it's all by appointment so you never just pick up the phone and call it's a

[25:35]you always set the appointment and then you know they're gonna call those warm leads

[25:38]not a cold call it's a warm lead you want to you want to hear something sexy

[25:48]okay so for today for breakfast the first thing i'm going to do is i'm going to go to my mom's house

[25:50]i got up and i made some vegetarian bacon like who is this aaron i tore a piece of

[25:56]of light aluminum foil straight across the ragged edge there were no things

[26:01]oh yeah tell me more

[26:06]they should you know what i wonder if you could set up a porn line like a sex phone line

[26:12]for just people that have been married a long time and it'd be like

[26:15]oh yeah i'm gonna i'm gonna come home and do the dishes i'm not gonna tell you about it

[26:20]oh yeah tell me more i want to hear that go on i'm gonna come home and i'm not gonna tell you

[26:27]about my day when you're watching a movie i'm not gonna interrupt you and say that we should

[26:31]watch something but then when we're five minutes into what we're watching i'm gonna pull out my

[26:34]phone i'm not gonna do that to you it's like oh yeah i like this this is great i don't care if

[26:39]one night you shit in the bed by accident that's not a big deal

[26:41]once again all the way off the rails

[26:47]it was kind of it was kind of an accident

[26:50]bear and a bat you each have to do one what what is this called

[26:54]rosie rosie last week said remember you make mistakes you live with them for a long time

[27:00]i'm starting to learn i'm starting to learn guys i'm not touching this one of the 10

[27:06]foot wait man i just got a message over zoom 10 foot i don't know man i wish you would just put

[27:11]the fork in the dishwasher yeah i was gonna say that it didn't stop you from the last hour before

[27:16]we recorded this where you're talking about that damn spoon in the dishwasher that's our time guys

[27:20]on the double secret podcast nobody knows about that podcast you want a copy of the double secret

[27:25]podcast just email in it beck did it better at google.com i'll send it to you i wish you would

[27:30]just stop talking about me not putting that spoon in the dishwasher i'm not going to talk to you

[27:37]while you obviously have headphones in walking around and then get mad that you didn't hear a

[27:40]word i said for the last five minutes i wouldn't do that it's like oh yeah this is so great anyway

[27:45]uh things are going well over here rosie how's it going with you rolling going it's going good i

[27:50]admit that uh i was i i asked the earlier question about uh your greatest three minutes because i

[27:55]don't have the world's greatest rolling going but i do want to give an update and this i'm not

[27:59]recycling a row and going rolling going i have a list much in the way that i'm gonna clip you saying

[28:04]i'm not recycling by the way i'm not recycling my rolling going my my lady rescued my aluminum foil

[28:11]i know that our listeners have been on pins and needles she saved the aluminum foil i don't know

[28:18]how she's a champion yeah you know what we're going to do is we're going to do a little bit of

[28:20]we're all shocked that she figured it out not you two we're just shocked that she's the one who fixed

[28:27]it very surprising right she fixed that little kink over there didn't she did she yell at the

[28:32]aluminum foil for making for making you mad and saying mad bad things about you did she get mad

[28:36]at the aluminum for the editor of reynolds for making me upset and giving me a hard time so i

[28:43]gotta give her an absolute uh shout out and props for that uh the other thing i'm really excited

[28:49]about is um

[28:50]you know what i'm changing my draft back i'm taking your wife in the draft as well that sounds

[28:54]great my wife comes to me with things like my wife comes to me with things like i drop my phone in the

[29:00]toilet it doesn't work and i haven't backed up my phone in 11 years and i have everything is really

[29:04]important on there can you get it off for me and oh by the way this is gonna be this is happening

[29:09]at 11 30 at night when you're trying to go to sleep like my daughter when we went down to florida

[29:13]my daughter did the thing where she she was walking toward the water of the ocean with a

[29:17]phone in her pocket and i said oh you know be careful with your phone whatever

[29:20]she comes back five minutes later she goes my phone fell in the water and it washed out to sea

[29:25]it's gone and i was like what she goes yeah it's gone and of course she's crying and of course

[29:32]it washed out to sea is the best part the worst part is my parents my parents are sitting right

[29:38]there so i can't do what i want to do which is like what the fuck are you talking about

[29:41]you brought your phone in the ocean what are you thinking so instead i had to be like

[29:48]okay let me go look to see it meanwhile it's like huge five foot waves crashing in so i had to go out

[29:53]and like act like i was looking in the ocean and i was like okay well when's the last time you backed

[29:57]up your phone she was like back up my phone i was like why does nobody else in my family back up

[30:02]anything nobody cares and then they bring it to me like where's all my pictures can you fix it i

[30:06]was like no i can't guys i'm living in hell my life is hell between this and that podcast guy

[30:12]calling me i'm really on edge today i apologize to my wife my kids and you know rob i don't think

[30:17]i love what my spouse

[30:18]you need therapy

[30:18]you need therapy

[30:18]backs up the toilet with their phone and it gets washed out to sea

[30:22]that doesn't happen that doesn't happen that much actually that's a very different scenario

[30:30]no i was well it's interesting that you've mentioned being on the beach because i've

[30:35]been thinking about summer coming up and it hopefully is going to be a different and better

[30:39]summer this year and dj khaled surprise dropped a new album i think yesterday he just finalized

[30:46]the track list he added a

[30:48]late track with cardi b and it's great i've uh just started listening to it today there's a

[30:53]a track with both nas and jay-z on it which we'll discuss why that's significant so uh it's exciting

[30:59]because uh dj khaled albums are kind of like these events where he's just bringing in all kinds of

[31:04]guests and uh it's like it's like a party in in an in an album form so i'm excited about that i'm

[31:09]gonna dig into that a little bit more and enjoy some uh some other tunes when i'm not studying up

[31:13]for the podcast so that's where i'm at i i dj khaled is a total blank spot in my life

[31:18]like what does he do does he literally just make the beats and then invite people to come in and

[31:21]he just yells over the music or what yeah i think that's only known for memes no i think that's

[31:26]pretty much right he's he's a piece he's kind of like it's like his albums are like he's the

[31:29]the host of a party where he's just like we the best music and then like you're like another one

[31:34]and then all of a sudden lil wayne's rapping it's like it's great it's like a it's like what you

[31:38]would hope to see on your best vr concert

[31:40]by the way guns and roses did have that vr concert and my kid was like do you want to watch this movie

[31:47]with me and i was like i have to say yes to watch this movie with my kid because if she gets older

[31:52]and goes to therapy he's like yeah my dad didn't watch a movie with me and then i went in his room

[31:56]and he was watching a guns and roses concert from two years ago on vr i was like that's fucked up i

[32:01]can't do that you just see me doing like the guitar solo from november right in front of the

[32:05]church with my vr guy i was like i'm like she's like dad i thought we were gonna watch billy

[32:10]eilish meanwhile my cell phone floated out to sea over and over russ if you have a cell phone

[32:17]that's small enough to fit down the toilet when you flush it that cell phone is too small your

[32:21]cell phone needs to get bigger your cell phone needs to be a mighty log that would never go down

[32:26]the toilet i got one of those flip phones i don't know it seems to work you got one of those jitterbug

[32:31]old people phones it's like huge numbers one two okay i was gonna say the numbers i was literally

[32:36]gonna say one two three four five six i'm a fucking idiot now you're doing it you know what

[32:42]we're down to a 6.1 in my all you missed was seven eight nine and zero

[32:47]trust me it's really bugging me that you're almost there rosie is that it rosie that's it i'm good yeah

[32:52]that's all i got russ rolling going how's it going with you um so the other day i went on a date with

[32:57]the woman and she announced she was pregnant at about 10 minutes into the date so how do you guys

[33:02]deal with that first date first date 10 minutes in first round draft pick of an online date and

[33:11]you get the announcement that yes i'm actually um i'm not drinking today not because i haven't had

[33:17]a good experience with alcohol it's not my thing i'm allergic it's yeah i'm actually pregnant so

[33:22]that's my life we can just move on that's my life doesn't that seem like i mean isn't that

[33:30]something that there's got to be stuff that there's like rules of things you have to disclose

[33:35]you would think so so could you tell was did it come out like could you and she walked up to the

[33:41]table were you like well i'm curious about whether this woman is pregnant or not or did you like how

[33:47]complete surprise to you nope couldn't tell okay okay so early on early early in the in the process

[33:54]okay just an announcement there was an announcement about five minutes in we were ordering a drink and

[33:59]she mentioned before that she did not drink and i was like that's fine i don't care teach their own

[34:04]and um she said it again we were sitting there for a few minutes i was like okay and then she said

[34:09]i'm pregnant and i was like i thought it was a joke i thought it was a joke and then it came

[34:13]up another time and it was clear it was not it was yeah this this is so

[34:17]so on the second date did you like figure out the backstory yeah third date you're in the hospital

[34:23]holding a leg oh no oh no i don't even know how to respond this is my life we can just fucking move

[34:32]on david bowie i know i kind of i do kind of want to peel into this a little bit please peel it's an

[34:39]idea there's there's plenty of what exactly did you say when she said i'm pregnant and you said

[34:46]she goes no i'm actually pregnant i can't drink like how much longer does the date go on then

[34:51]and did the thought cross your mind of like

[34:55]i could raw dog you know what i mean she's not gonna get pregnant again

[35:01]she's not it's the ultimate birth control i actually

[35:06]i don't know if i can ever take this back and i sit i'm just gonna be quiet

[35:10]no i can't take it back i did happen to read a news article on like cnn or something this week

[35:16]where a woman had two different children within like three months of each other where they were

[35:21]conceived while she was pregnant so that may or may not have crossed my mind

[35:26]it's possible oh i think i found my new kink this is weird this is gonna get really weird

[35:32]this is not good i don't know just yeah i got nothing on this so no but how long did

[35:41]the date last after that like what do you do after that i mean do you we continued our

[35:46]brunch i don't know that's good that's that's the gentlemanly thing to do and so at that point

[35:51]you're just like well i'm gonna get a meal out of this did she order two brunches she did she did

[35:56]not order two but i he's eating for two i'm eating for two drinking for zero i'm eating for two

[36:05]i got a feeling she was paying for she was paying for zero on this day too i gotta feel

[36:11]russ is paying for you gotta get a little quicker on that monday night exit on the

[36:16]i mean if you can't laugh you would cry i'm paying for two right

[36:22]eating for two but paying for zero when she sees the bill come in she's like

[36:25]oh boy so yeah i mean think of the money you'd save on condoms russell it'd be

[36:35]in the millions i i think that's a great cost benefit you got to think about it you know what

[36:40]i mean you know it's your yellow pad it puts the positives on the one side of the negatives on the

[36:46]i would say it would get tougher and tougher because i think it is important like if you

[36:49]break up with somebody especially if you've been dating for a while to do it in a public place

[36:53]i would say you have until they're about six months pregnant and then dumping them in a public

[36:59]place is problematic right if you're dating somebody who's visibly pregnant and you have

[37:04]to break up in a public place that looks really really bad where you're just like yeah this isn't

[37:08]really working out well see you later and everybody looks around like wait what you're just like that

[37:16]you know rob that's the that's the thinking three or four step that's playing chess instead of

[37:20]checkers yeah that's why we appreciate you as the lead host of this podcast because that's that's

[37:25]how you made host main host made host the main host of this podcast yeah if you miss your window

[37:29]though you're in big big trouble so uh russell that i have to say i am kind of re-evaluating

[37:35]what i was saying earlier about my marriage and all those jokes i was making about the

[37:38]marriage phone sex line my life does sound better than that okay not gonna lie

[37:46]just all your stories just they add up to just such a wild

[37:50]what do you do what do you do let's talk about this album i i we are talking about

[38:00]ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars by david bowie it came out in 72

[38:05]and i've got my three sentences about the album basically this is our first glam rock album that

[38:10]we have covered right and i just got done watching the david bowie ziggy stardust uh

[38:15]it wasn't really a documentary it's just kind of a concert film and i would say the first 15

[38:20]minutes are just him getting makeup applied it's just it's just tons and tons of makeups and most

[38:25]of the movie is just outfit changes um it reminded me very much of scene when i went and saw lady

[38:30]gaga in concert where you would have these long extended guitar solos and you knew that she was

[38:34]going to come back out in like three new outfits that's kind of what i'm what david bowie was doing

[38:39]uh he wrote a lot of these songs at the same time he wrote the earlier album hunky dory which was

[38:44]much more piano led but he wrote a lot of these songs at the same time he wrote the earlier album

[38:45]his keyboardist quit after that album and so this album comes in as much more kind of guitar heavy

[38:52]and when he wrote this album he kind of was able to put it together as sort of a loose opera with

[38:59]ziggy stardust being a character and you're going to hear me talk about that as we go through the

[39:02]song is there any is ziggy stardust based on jimmy hendrix in any way he has that line about

[39:08]playing guitar left-handed right is he i saw a lot of talking about jimmy at all i saw a lot of

[39:12]people reference that they thought maybe that he was i mean he obviously

[39:15]this album came out because he on his american tour he heard a lot of american music

[39:20]and you hear him say a lot of uh like american english terms in this whole album so he was

[39:26]definitely influenced it's kind of like the rolling stones when they came to the united

[39:29]states and they heard all this music and uh started doing more and more music like that but

[39:34]and jimmy was still for sure in 72 like a specter hanging over all of music right he had

[39:39]changed the game so much clearly all of the absolutely so let's get into it the first song

[39:44]five years

[39:46]this might be one of the top opening tracks we've heard i just love it yeah what why does it jump

[39:57]out to you guys so much well i'm gonna i'm gonna play the build up here at the end where they get

[40:02]to it but it's just like it starts with that drum beat and just listen to this it kind of

[40:08]builds to a crescendo a little bit doesn't it so good yeah listen to the end of this listen to this

[40:14]feels like it sets the whole album right up on a t and says here we go here's what you're here's

[40:20]what you're getting into but it's like ravel's bolero where it's just the same same rhythm over

[40:25]and over and it keeps building and building because you keep hearing that same tripping

[40:29]drum rhythm which just starts out so great and then there's more and more layers

[40:34]for me like you start an album quietly with this like skipping lilting drum rhythm and then

[40:41]warm big old piano chords i'm in like that's it for me i was telling these guys russell if you

[40:47]watch the concert footage of david bowie it is impossible to not keep your eyes on him when he's

[40:54]performing it is absolutely incredible how much he can hold the stage and act super cool doing it

[41:00]like he's sitting there just like oh this is just me doing something you know i would do every day

[41:04]it'd be like me starting the shower and he's up there belting out these songs and he just looks

[41:08]so awesome doing it it's like it's addicting to listen to it and it's like it's like it's like

[41:11]i love the voice and i love i do love the mix of this album i think it just sounds so crisp and like

[41:18]like i i there's so many of these songs that i would i would be like i don't know this song by

[41:23]name and i listened to it and i was like god damn i do love this song like i know it and i just love

[41:26]it and the mix is otherworldly because you hear and um i had a brief but intense love affair with

[41:33]the flaming lips album yoshimi battles the pink robots and i was never a bowie guy loved that

[41:39]flaming this album lips album and now i listen to this album and i'm like oh my god i love this

[41:41]this and i know where they got it and it's this otherworldly mix where you hear acoustic guitar

[41:46]electric guitar strings all perfectly balanced where if you were in a concert hall you wouldn't

[41:51]be able to hear it that way and so it's definitely from another planet and the mix you're you're

[41:57]absolutely right rob it's just perfect also i heard aaron say it was a brief and intense love

[42:01]affair and then i zoned out i came back in a little bit when he said lips but then i did

[42:06]all right uh just like me

[42:11]i'm looking at my shoes soul love i'm so sorry

[42:13]so you hear he's talking about how ziggy stardust has is examining the humans and he's talking about

[42:21]the intense love they have for each other and he's also starting to make nods toward soul music

[42:27]right he's using the bass line from stand by me pretty much and he he for the rest of his career

[42:32]i think was always kind of considered blue-eyed soul and blurring those boundaries i gotta i gotta

[42:39]i gotta ask so like

[42:41]this was just kind of a an okay album for me like obviously i think it's great music stuff but it

[42:47]doesn't get to me that much but i the first thing i read on wikipedia is the rise of fall of ziggy

[42:53]stardust and the spiders from mars is about a bisexual alien rock star androgynous superstar

[42:58]named ziggy stardust yeah like that makes it that much more interesting i wish i would have read that

[43:05]like before tonight when i was listening to the album to kind of say well okay who's this bisexual

[43:09]and i'll tell you what if you're wondering what an androgynous bisexual rock star looks like you

[43:15]gotta watch this ziggy stardust was david bowie performing you have never seen so many silk

[43:21]kimonos of so many different lengths he's got one silk kimono that comes out it like barely covers

[43:27]his crotch you can't look away it's just like he's like you he's just like super he's just

[43:32]attractive just straight up he's a great looking guy he looks unbelievable if i wore a white kimono

[43:38]people would be trying to spear me like it would be a disaster looking for his are you trying to

[43:43]is you're looking for like a trouser snake slip is that what you i mean i don't like people were

[43:47]trying to spear david bowie too but in a different way aaron aaron and aaron and rob are you guys

[43:52]willing to put every single dollar this podcast could ever make in the future if matt would be

[43:58]willing to wear one white silk kimono at one point in his life yes yes in yep all the way in yep so

[44:06]so far the pot is negative 120 dollars that we paid uh all right on this song though david bowie

[44:13]did play his own saxophone solo i didn't know that you don't often hear the lead singer playing

[44:19]the saxophone on their album right oh this i mean and listen to this i mean this is what i'm talking

[44:25]about like in the mix it's so clear and the saxophone is so up front it just is like i love

[44:31]it a lot of one of his big influences was actually velvet underground

[44:35]for a lot of this album but this it sounds so much better than that album did it's it's just

[44:40]crazy to me all right moon age daydream and this is about matt it's introducing ziggy stardust so

[44:46]listen up you could learn a little something here sounds like sabbath i don't know i was gonna say

[44:53]is that one of those best opening chords in the song just crazy does that does this sound a little

[44:58]billy joel to you guys i don't know who came first but do you hear the similar similarity there at all

[45:04]or not yeah all this billy joel elton john it's all it's all kind of coming up around the same time

[45:09]right i mean i think i don't know if they would have heard one another at this point but but yeah

[45:13]one thing i noticed on the song do you guys hear the the guitar solo at the end of this song rob i

[45:19]don't know if you can pull that up so this is this guy mick ronson i don't know if he's one of the

[45:25]famous most famous guitar players ever but this just kind of jumped out of me his sound sounded

[45:30]very unique right yeah yeah so i kind of started looking around and i was like oh my god i don't know

[45:34]what makes his sound so unique and it turns out that he used a wah-wah pedal we've never talked

[45:40]wah-wah pedals before and so i thought we would go and do a list on the greatest wah-wah pedal

[45:47]songs of all time hell yeah that's what i'm doing some clapton stuff here but we'll see what's on

[45:51]your list hey dude i've i've heard from you guys that we're not eric clapton fans he's not on the

[45:57]list that's fine that's fine yeah that's absolutely fine why is he said some problematic stuff i'm not

[46:03]aware of that i don't know if he's doing some problematic stuff i'm not aware of that i don't

[46:04]know the interesting thing when you listen to that song with mick ronson so it's a lot of times

[46:08]with wah-wah you hear kind of this back and forth the the crying almost if you will rob you're a

[46:13]guitar player maybe you can explain what a wah-wah pedal does i have no fucking idea i mean i know

[46:18]when you push it it goes and i'm assuming it just does that by that sounds like the scene in the

[46:24]howard stern altering what frequencies come out i don't know so the interesting thing though is you

[46:29]don't quite hear that in this last song and the reason is is that mick ronson would pick a spot

[46:33]on the wah-wah pedal and he would leave it there and some people call that a parked wah-wah or some

[46:39]people call it rob a half cocked wah-wah so he would he would play in high school so he would

[46:46]play a half cocked wah-wah pedal a half cocked wah if you will the best three minutes of my day

[46:52]but i decided we need to branch out beyond the half cocked wah-wah pedals and do the full

[46:58]wah-wah pedal song so the first one on the list is a guy named melvin

[47:03]wah-wah watson have you guys aaron have you heard of this guy before i'm not familiar this is him

[47:08]he played with remember when we talked about the funk brothers who were a session band in motown

[47:15]from remote from motown yeah so he played with a group that i believe aaron really likes the

[47:19]temptations this was you know i love the rolling stone check this out oh great son

[47:23]oh yeah that has got some wah-wah on it does it not and that's how they do this part too where it

[47:33]the wah-wah pedal i spent so much time as a kid trying to memorize where the vocals come in on

[47:38]this song because it's like a five minute intro and i spent so much time trying to see if i could

[47:42]get it right russell sent me like the 20 minute version of this song that i've never heard before

[47:47]where the intro was even longer oh i'll send you a link to it rosie you got to check it out it's

[47:51]it's incredible like because i i know when the words come in where he's like

[47:55]and i'm like but this was so much longer it's so good so this is melvin wah-wah watson as he

[48:03]became known and and he actually died a few years ago and in a eulogy on twitter actually

[48:09]quest love if anyone's ever heard of this guy named quest love i don't know here

[48:12]but he sent me he sent out a tweet and he essentially said i can't describe how much

[48:20]this particular guitar god impacts all of our lives you know when it's sexy time the go-to

[48:26]soundtrack in your head is the pimped out version of bow chicka wow wow and that comes from melvin

[48:33]watson so when you hear the and you think the bow chicka wow wow this is the guy it comes from i was

[48:37]like that's so cool isn't it can you imagine how lucky it is that some guy named wah-wah watson

[48:42]got into playing the wah-wah pedal on a guitar like that's crazy that's as crazy as those guys

[48:47]the funk brothers getting into motown like that's just so serendipitous i love it yeah

[48:52]so going through the rest of the list there are so many amazing wah-wah songs so i decided what i

[49:03]languages for the next few songs so we're going to do it a little bit different this time

[49:07]so i figure we're going to go on rob i believe you're i feel like you're a gifts guy you love

[49:15]gifts so i'm going to give you a gift right now and the gift is i know you're a big jimmy hendrix

[49:21]fan and this is voodoo child the slight return this is probably the most famous wah-wah song

[49:27]ever check this part out

[49:33]man listen to ben that thing yes and so rob if this wasn't a gift enough some of you may know

[49:42]this this was also hollywood hollywood famous entrance song when he was the hollywood so rob

[49:49]brother before he became famous for the adult film this was his entrance music and even at the age of

[49:57]when i was 18 years old and hogan made

[50:02]i was still really upset go ahead aaron go ahead i'm sorry i just i i mean we're gonna get deep into

[50:09]the okay russell always handled that better than me but probably because russell was a charles

[50:15]barclay guy instead of a jordan guy i was so upset about hogan going heel and russell was like this is

[50:19]how it goes like this is this is how this works he was much more mature than i yeah it goes both

[50:25]ways though you were much more excited about the hulk hogan sex tape than i was so like each of our

[50:29]moments yeah and then i was gonna say him going heel

[50:32]is not the worst thing he's done in his life if you actually look at the transcript of that sex

[50:36]tape he said some pretty bad stuff on this yeah this doesn't make this fun hey brother you thought

[50:41]it was better and when i'm going heel wait till i'm going and i'm deep dick friends wife oh yeah

[50:47]i'm giving her i'm giving her the fly that was my name for a penis flying leg drop yeah you know

[50:54]what i'm talking about see this was a gift for rob rob i i give you that gift next up aaron you said

[51:02]it was a gift for rob rob i i give you that gift next up aaron i i give you that gift next up aaron

[51:06]this is the funkadelic the maggot brain is the name of the song this is eddie hazel who does a

[51:12]10-minute guitar solo featuring the wah-wah pedal first track off a maggot brain he was 20 when he

[51:18]played this he was 20 years old my life has been a waste 20 years old that thing wah-wahs back and

[51:28]forth doesn't know this thing will just yeah it'll blow your mind aaron i read that

[51:32]uh george clinton realized like how powerful this solo was and there was a bass and drums on this

[51:38]song and he just cut it all out of the song and turned it into a 10 10-minute guitar solo with

[51:45]the wah-wah like is this not quality time 10 minutes of the wah-wah for you aaron you don't

[51:50]know how many times i've been listening to this in the house so my wife comes in and she's like

[51:53]what is wrong what is going on why are you listening to this music

[51:56]and you're like sweetie i'm just i'm in the living room with the lights off

[52:02]sharpening my knives not a big deal it's 3 30 in the morning you need to leave don't worry about it

[52:09]next up on the list matt you once said you were an acts of service guy and i'm gonna give an

[52:15]active service to you because you deserve an active service today you normally you are such

[52:20]a pearl jam guy you love listening to pearl jam there are so many like 80s and 90s bands that use

[52:26]the wah-wah pedal metallica guns and roses uses it all the time but my act of service is to give you

[52:32]a little bit of pearl jam today this is the solo at the end of a live check out the wah-wah pedal

[52:37]here yeah oh that's awesome like the 3d they do an extended version of this at all their concerts

[52:49]and turn it into like a back and forth with the audience it's great i can't wait to get back to

[52:54]live music well we just we don't hear enough pearl jam on this podcast we don't and that's

[53:02]our pearl jam in this from me to you oh russell i appreciate that's uh that that was an excellent

[53:07]uh act of service there you know what thank you the other thing is we have to look out for the

[53:12]love language of our listeners like i'm doing nice things for you rob's been complaining that

[53:15]we don't pick his talking head songs or whatever his band is what's what's the band name they might

[53:20]be giant they might be giant songs so i'd rob i tried to give you a little little jimmy hendrix so

[53:26]we gotta you know our listeners come for for aaron's laugh and rob's

[53:31]introduction voice and matt's parenting tips but they really stay for back and there is actually

[53:37]a couple amazing back wah-wah songs the first is jeff back i ain't superstitious check this song

[53:44]out oh whoa if i had a guitar and a wah-wah pedal this is all i would do it would just be like

[53:52]it would be all day

[53:53]like this would be this is a perfect response if somebody was like hey can you come over here and

[54:01]do the dishes from the breakfast that i made with all the eggs in it and i didn't do the dishes and

[54:05]now i'm mad at you for the dishes i've eaten them i'd just be like

[54:07]it's so funny you say that rob i was reading something and they said about the way jeff

[54:14]back played the wah-wah pedal he said his guitar is so intense that at times it makes it sound like

[54:20]the instrument is talking so it is exactly what you're talking about but finally some of our

[54:25]listeners want the real namesake of this podcast it's beck hansen or whatever his name is the the

[54:30]beck that we know

[54:31]we're not sure to hear it and so he actually covered a song by george harrison who wrote a

[54:36]song about the wah-wah pedal called wah-wah this is beck's cover of george harrison's song

[54:41]check it out

[54:42]yeah oh yeah wow is beck playing guitar in here

[54:53]oh i like it yes he's got the perfect sunshiny sound

[55:01]that goes out to all our listeners and i gotta ask you guys when it comes to the wah-wah pedal

[55:05]who does it better beck pearls better oh sorry better eddie hazel did it but oh wait

[55:13]next up one of my favorite songs maybe of all time and one of my wrestlers that i would always

[55:21]pick when i played pro wrestling oh yeah it was so cheap star man i wish david boy had a song

[55:28]called amazon man or king slender i would take either one

[55:31]there's another cut for about two listeners out there

[55:35]this feels like a nod to motown too with the piano

[55:42]that sounds like it could have come from a supreme song to me erin erin i thought you

[55:47]would be way ahead of the game on this one you know what this song is a nod to

[55:51]i do not did you guys not hear the octave jump in the in the chorus there

[55:55]maybe you should study some music theory i guess i should have yeah

[56:01]i've read that this is actually inspired by somewhere over the rainbow if you're that star

[56:07]man that oh of course yeah tell us what an octave jump is can you explain what that is

[56:12]it's really yeah it's going it's eight steps but it doesn't even know what it starts off at one

[56:19]octave yeah but if you look there's not a lot of pop or rock songs where they do that octave jump

[56:27]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[56:31]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[56:31]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[56:31]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[56:31]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[56:31]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[57:01]it's very very few and so i read that this was exactly that octave jump and it's very very few

[57:01]tell aaron i was going to do a list on the greatest octave jump songs ever

[57:04]but some people claim it's only a major seventh whatever the hell that means and then i got

[57:09]confused well that would be just short of an octave yes somewhere everybody knows that an octave

[57:15]is eight right yeah he knows more than aaron aaron did you study this shit listen aaron probably

[57:20]doesn't even know about circle of fifths i mean come on i'm just thinking i'm thinking i mean

[57:25]somewhere over the rainbow might be a major seventh but no the only other song can you go

[57:31]the only other song that kept coming up maybe you can try to sing this part is you guys remember the

[57:37]song by aha take on me there's a take on me that was the other one that people said might have been

[57:43]an octave or major keep going yep no i think that's a yeah the one i think of is there's a

[57:48]place for us from or also called somewhere actually from uh west side sir but that might

[57:54]be a minor seventh so we don't want to get too far down that is i was thinking i was just

[58:00]basking in and then you play judy garland like i can't rob sometimes this podcast it ain't easy

[58:06]it ain't easy it's not easy

[58:08]this is a song by a guy this is the only song on the album that bowie didn't write

[58:16]i mean listen to this by the way it just sounds so fucking good listen to this right here

[58:22]it sounds like zeppelin i mean it's it's like he's got emotion in all these songs i mean if i

[58:30]wrote you a song and i was like guys i'm writing a song about fucking aliens they're going to come

[58:36]down you'd be like oh okay i'm definitely not going to take this seriously meanwhile you listen

[58:40]to these songs they're mind-blowing and just to show you how talented david bowie is not just as

[58:46]a singer but like an arranger and like the whole tone of this this is from 1970 this is three dog

[58:52]night okay singing the exact same song listen to how shitty this sounds next to that

[58:57]and you look at it

[59:00]i mean i'm not loving the harpsichord yeah lame

[59:04]listen to it right here here comes

[59:08]get out sounds like sounds like matt's boy bob dylan bowie just took the whole thing and put

[59:16]it on 10 that's incredible i mean it's it's unbelievable it's it's crazy that's a fun

[59:22]exercise to think about a song in different people's hands thank you rob that was nice

[59:26]what's something you guys think is easy that other people don't they people can't just

[59:30]can't figure it out i'm gonna go first and it's backing up my phone it's not that hard

[59:36]it automatically backs up all my photos are there all the contacts are there we don't have to have

[59:41]an emergency at 10 30 on a work night i'll tell you what i got one doing the dishes it's pretty

[59:46]darn easy to just put the dishes in put that spoon in there just put it in there come on

[59:51]man are you have are you have a putting washing the dishes or putting the dishes away guy what

[59:55]would you prefer christ have we talked about this i feel like we've talked about this on that one

[60:00]episode that's the laundry i don't mind doing the laundry i don't like folding and putting it away

[60:04]remember oh but no i like doing dishes i like having a nice clean kitchen at the end of the

[60:10]night waking up and putting my coffee on in the morning just tonight matt's talking about the

[60:14]laundry meanwhile his his mom has escaped the cage in the basement is running across behind

[60:18]so i'm sorry man i wasn't listening at all i was thinking how funny that joke was so would you

[60:23]rather put the dishes away or wash the dishes wash the dishes wash that's what you should put

[60:28]on your bumble thing russell's what you what you prefer i don't know i don't know i don't know

[60:30]i think there's two kinds you got to find that other kind of person out there what about you

[60:34]aaron between putting the dishes away and washing them have you been fucking listening to this

[60:39]podcast god damn it what did you not think i was going to come talk to you i'm so glad you called

[60:44]eric first i wasn't listening either okay do you have a dishwasher do you have a dishwasher yes we

[60:49]do it's one of the more modern amenities of our house uh i mean i like i like putting the dishes

[60:56]away um because it's like a nice zen kind of experience you know take a

[61:00]but that's when they come out of the dishwasher yeah that's what i'm talking about do you like

[61:04]yeah i enjoy that what the fuck do you like i'm asking if you like putting them into the dishwasher

[61:10]or taking them out if people like them different amounts you like taking them out yeah i like

[61:15]taking them out i like taking them out too but then i realized that we have for some reason i

[61:18]think our mugs are having sex with each other and replicating we have so many mugs i don't know where

[61:24]these mugs come i bet we have 100 mugs i bet i bet if you if you if i told you we have 100 mugs that's

[61:29]not crazy

[61:30]i don't know where these mugs come i bet we have 100 mugs i bet i bet if you if i told you we have 100 mugs that's not crazy

[61:30]how do we have 100 mugs i've never bought a mug how many people you got that live in your house

[61:34]yeah four two who use mugs i'm breaking off and you yeah how often do you do the dishes

[61:40]rob at least every other day right so most you need four mugs right exactly that's all you need

[61:45]yeah maybe i try 400 i thought you're i thought your friend who you pay to come over and hang out

[61:50]at your house does the dishes and puts the dishes away she's been gone this week oh hell hell and

[61:55]high wheels my marriage is on a knife's edge right now it doesn't help oh we couldn't tell from this

[62:00]whole podcast everything we're talking about i came home the other day and the apartment was

[62:04]spotless it was just spotless and and jenny had not been working she'd been at home all day

[62:08]and you can imagine being married to me as a real treat because i came home and i said i said

[62:14]the girls have kept the apartment so clean i'm so proud of them and she was so mad at me for

[62:19]saying that i thought it was the funniest thing of all time just a joke about you know and then

[62:24]meanwhile i threw my bag directly on the couch and like took off my socks and put them on the ground

[62:27]i mean it's it's yeah and then the dog promptly ate them

[62:30]so you don't have to worry about oh yeah oh he is pooping out something he ate something i'm not

[62:35]sure what it is it's some piece of fabric though because he checked back next week just to see

[62:40]his name should be loom because that's what comes out of the bottom of all the time it's just like

[62:44]some a piece of a sock russ what do you like do you like putting the dishes away or taking them

[62:48]out you understand what i'm saying i like breaking out the body glitter spiking my hair and feeling

[62:55]free to explore some ambiguous couture then i enjoy serving up a glorious pair of

[63:00]champagne cocktails and that's what i'm doing tonight on side 75 album have you guys done a

[63:06]french 75 what is this erin i'm doing one have you done one um i had a girlfriend at a party is

[63:12]there gin involved there is gin lemon juice simple syrup and champagne delicious french 75 have you

[63:19]done this yeah i think we might have done it for the oscars once weren't you frenching some 75 on

[63:24]a date a couple weeks ago weren't you telling us about that 7.5

[63:29]ah

[63:30]that's way above a 7.3 we only had a 7.3 yeah

[63:38]you know it's bad when my dating standards are higher than this podcast rating that's bad news

[63:45]just to let you know the final rating the beck did a better instagram account does follow this

[63:52]guy now so way to go rob we had a real funny thing going and i said something so stupid

[63:57]you guys want to hear about my mug some more

[64:00]all right so what are you what are you how they replicate what are you drinking champagne and what

[64:04]what's in there there's gin lemon juice champagne and then it called for simple syrup but i don't

[64:10]have that so i just poured some honey in there i figured that would probably do the trick

[64:13]kind of like a bee's knees with champagne i like using agave instead of simple syrup i think that's

[64:18]really good all right lady stardust this is the one where i headed on and jenny was like this

[64:25]sounds a lot like elton john that's what i thought too so who came first

[64:30]is elton john first or bowie or who's taking from who

[64:34]they must have been sharing back and forth right if this is 72

[64:38]goodbye yellow brick road was what 74 73 but they had to have been aware of one another i think the

[64:48]last song on the list sounds a lot like pink void there's a lot of taking from each other with

[64:54]different artists at this time right well you know who he says that this song is about tongue in cheek

[64:58]about lady stardust

[65:00]he claims it's about one of his biggest influence who is mark boland do you know

[65:04]mark boland is oh from no it was he was the singer of t-rex okay oh yeah yeah

[65:11]and this was a song i never understood growing up this this gave me some weird idea that there

[65:17]was a gong next to adults beds and like i thought this is a rolling stone it's time to get it on are

[65:23]you gonna tell us what this is about well this would be a good song to do a parody song too i

[65:30]this one right in my head already ready to go diamond star halo aaron's dong i mean it's not

[65:39]it's so easy gorgeous dog it ain't easy gorgeous dog all right star this is about how ziggy's gonna

[65:51]come down and save the world as a rock and roll star

[65:54]just the instrument

[66:00]this album every song is slightly different but everything is so well thought out

[66:05]this has the kind of honky tonk piano in it yeah this this sounds like a

[66:10]beatle song or it kind of sounds like a crocodile rock right where elton john was trying to get that

[66:17]50s sound right but it's like yeah he he this album has the songs are jamming and even the slow

[66:25]ones are super super catchy i mean we've complained on so many albums that like oh this is where this

[66:30]hits a lull it slows down i this album hasn't done that yet like the slower songs are almost

[66:36]more catchy than the faster songs it's crazy there are hooks all over it right there are hooks that

[66:41]make you engage you back in every song i love it it's crazy okay here's a song dedicated to me

[66:47]at a middle school dance it's called hang on to yourself a lot of people think this is a

[66:51]proto-punk song yeah i can hear that i mean you can hear this going right into the remarks right

[67:00]into the life machine velvet underground into it yeah totally

[67:04]what's a funky thigh collector what's a funky thigh collector let me google it real quick

[67:15]oh wait i misspelled funky uh-oh this is taking me on a weird path i don't know

[67:20]oh the link's purple i stole your joke matt who do you think it sounds like you were you

[67:26]were saying something there oh it just it feels like that kind of that new york rock

[67:30]scene from the late 60s early 70s so velvet underground and some of those uh early rock

[67:36]bands that came out of new york i i know it sounds similar to velvet underground we don't

[67:40]have to get into this with the final ranking but how do you like this compared to velvet

[67:44]underground's album way better a hundred times better yeah this is a hundred thousand times

[67:50]better like i agree i agree i mean there are pretty moments on here and and i guess there

[67:55]are pretty moments on velvet underground too but i think top to bottom this thing just has

[68:00]really beautiful music on it whereas velvet underground had some beautiful tunes and then

[68:05]some stuff that just sounded droney this always gets into it i don't want to make i'll do this

[68:09]really short but you know this kind of gets the whole thing that velvet underground was probably

[68:13]three to four to five years before this before the kind of the yeah so yeah so did this lead to

[68:19]the velvet underground help make this album kind of a deal so it's influential so that's why that

[68:24]album's rated higher and blah blah blah so he said that he said that the velvet underground is a

[68:30]very velvet underground ish but the question is this like would you rather hear the velvet

[68:35]underground sing these songs or would you rather hear bowie sing the velvet underground songs i

[68:39]would love to hear a version of bowie singing heroin like that would be unbelievable i might

[68:44]take bowie singing about anything right now i mean this is this album is bad it's so good

[68:48]all right ziggy stardust

[68:55]guitar hero favorite of mine you guys ever played the guitar

[69:00]the game guitar hero back in the game this is where i heard this song for the first time was

[69:04]on the game i'll tell you if you watch that ziggy stardust live concert film his guitarist is so

[69:10]fucking good live it's crazy like just slays and plays long solos so that he can go and change

[69:17]outfits it's so great you get a new kimono a lot of these songs i i before we went down this

[69:25]journey i had not listened to this album start to finish but i know all of these songs from

[69:30]seo george's covers from the life aquatic uh so do i soundtrack and they're great songs they hold up

[69:38]he does them all acoustic he sings them in portuguese and they're fantastic and so i know

[69:43]all of them from listening to him do it and then listening uh to the originals has been so much fun

[69:48]because they're just great songs guys aaron just talked about a guy who sings david bowie songs on

[69:52]acoustic guitar in portuguese and i knew what he was talking about i need to go take a long walk

[70:00]i have to go think about who i am choices i've made how i've gotten to something where aaron said

[70:05]something so ridiculous and i was like yeah i do enjoy that i also had that tv it was probably in

[70:09]the jeep it got stolen as well rob can you not talk about the portuguese this is with the life

[70:15]aquatic anymore this did have the greatest my favorite line in the album it was in ziggy stardust

[70:21]with god given ass yeah it's so good with god given

[70:30]ass the line before it says they were the nas n-a-s and i was like that's he just literally

[70:36]was just like man this word is going to rhyme with ass actually i went to a david bowie museum

[70:40]exhibition in chicago i went all the way down to chicago to see it and they had a really neat

[70:44]thing about how david bowie would write songs about how he would often clip apart words mix

[70:49]them up and then just use that to write his songs and by the end he was actually using computers

[70:53]to write lyrics for him it was kind of interesting he was like way into like kind of the meta part of

[71:00]songwriting his last album that was released basically what the day after he died black star

[71:04]i tried to listen to that a bit this week but um i couldn't get all the way through it because it's

[71:09]uh it's a bit too esoteric for me but yeah it's uh he was doing creative stuff right up until he

[71:14]passed all right so here we have suffragette city which by the way is the name of manchester

[71:19]england i did not ever realize that that's what suffragette city was about

[71:23]this album might have the best opening of every song of any album we've listened to just kidding

[71:30]killers

[71:30]this is a rock band special of mine russell i used to sing this one all the time so you guys

[71:38]were mentioning velvet underground i read that this is kind of some homage to the velvet

[71:42]underground so i think as much as we may like this album more you got to probably give them

[71:47]props if they came first right oh absolutely there's no doubt that they were influenced for

[71:51]so many of these bands that we're going to listen to russell does it surprise you that

[71:54]when i played rock band i preferred to be the singer does that surprise you in any sort of way

[72:00]you definitely do not strike me as the bass player on the rock band game

[72:04]right definitely not it might we still have a rock band set up up at the cabin we have an xbox

[72:10]that works we have a rock band and my father bless his soul there's one thing he loves more

[72:16]than anything else and that is mirror balls ever since i have known him my whole life he has always

[72:21]had a mirror ball up somewhere where we would hang out so he'd have a mirror ball in the basement

[72:25]he's got a mirror ball in the garage he's got a fog machine now so now for like gifts

[72:29]i just buy him different light machines my instagram ads it's all like lights for like a

[72:35]club and i just buy him and send him my dad he's happy as a clam he gets lights going it's so fun

[72:39]so many jokes about your parents sex life rob i just i can't like rob's face

[72:46]what uh your parents have a waterbed right rob this is where you make fun of air for

[72:53]saying something dumb why would he even make fun of that we're done this is

[72:59]the done signal thank you no more talking about that okay i had a nice story about how sweet my

[73:06]dad is he called me the other day do you think he was making a sex tape with his friend's wife

[73:13]like all cogan he didn't eat too much sushi he said

[73:17]rock and roll suicide

[73:26]you want to talk about a

[73:29]perfect ending to an album yeah why do you guys think this is a perfect ending it starts slow

[73:34]and it builds and it's just like i don't know i you couldn't it sums up the whole opera about

[73:42]ziggy stardust now saving the world matt you're the king of album construction what do you think

[73:48]of the ending oh i i agree with rob rob's right of course you know so i know i agree with it

[73:55]you can tell the album's ending and then it just goes out on the bank it's

[73:59]great i like it yeah suffer just city is kind of a weird like it's a weird twist on this album where

[74:05]i i think they just kind of had this song and they wanted to put it in it doesn't have anything to do

[74:10]with the theme it doesn't have anything and he came up with a theme after he'd written a song

[74:14]so i think some of the things were adjusted around but it's too much of a banger to ignore and then

[74:17]you go to rock and roll suicide which somehow is both slow and soulful and at the same time

[74:23]building with horns like it's it's crazy i love this album it's so good let's get to everybody's

[74:28]favorite section because it's the end the rating system

[74:32]this is so long why did i make this so long better rating system oh yeah

[74:44]can you imagine if you scrolled through like a random podcast of ours and it was like an hour

[74:52]and a half and just everyone was just us talking about hulk hogan he's like wait a minute

[74:56]it's a hulk hogan podcast

[74:58]these guys are just talking about hulk hogan by the way something that happened like 10 years ago

[75:02]like hey if all we did was hulk hogan sex tape bits i bet matt would actually download and

[75:09]listen to these episodes probably would yeah all right listen we've got a ranking system

[75:17]is this album this album is 40th on the list guys we are almost 10 of the way done with this podcast

[75:24]uh my soundboard is already too big it's out of control well this is a

[75:28]disaster i've already told you all my good stories today including the softball story

[75:32]um is this album should it be number 40 this is a rolling well toned uh did this album get screwed

[75:39]i got rolling bone this album should be way way higher than 40 it's a better than a lot of the

[75:44]albums that came before it you know the chronic goodbye off the wall goodbye rumors goodbye

[75:49]marvin gaye out of here you suck this david bowie's in is if that's what you think rolling

[75:55]boned if you think this album is not that good it shouldn't be up at 40 uh it is a rolling garone

[76:03]aaron what do you think i think that is it a rolling well toned or rolling bone or rolling

[76:10]grown what do you think i wish that i had spent more time with this album in my life i was never

[76:16]into bowie not for any good reason i just never never got into it because there's so much other

[76:22]music out there but i've had so much fun listening to this

[76:25]this album this week actually the the album that i think about a lot in comparison to this one is

[76:32]exile on main street where that one is so haphazard it's too long it's bloated the mix

[76:38]is garbage and this album is tight the mix is perfect and the musicianship is great so i have

[76:46]to say this is rolling bone this album should be ranked ranks higher wait wait it should be

[76:51]higher on the list which is a lower number or what that yeah it should be higher on the

[76:55]list lower number rolling boned and it should be but see for our episodes it would be it would

[76:59]have already come so it would be a lower number but it would have it would have came many weeks

[77:03]ago i think yes and it would have come many weeks ago rob yes i i heard it the first time

[77:08]but it would give us more downloads so that would be a higher number if it came later but this one

[77:13]we wanted earlier okay so i interrupted you to make my own dumb thing matt what do you think

[77:17]i i do like the album a lot i don't know how much i'll come back to it but i'm going to go back to

[77:24]it but i'm going to come back and listen to it again it feels i hear a ton of elton john i hear

[77:29]a ton of beatles and john lennon it feels like this is like a john lennon ripoff not in a bad

[77:34]way in a good way but it feels like there's a ton of john lennon in this um you know and so

[77:39]i just it doesn't feel like one of those ones that's completely authentic even though i think

[77:45]it is i think i'm being a little bit of a fraud by saying that um and so i'm just going to say

[77:49]it's rolling well toned it's at a good spot here number 40 but it it just it's a little bit of a

[77:54]i just keep hearing everybody else around them uh other than other than uh david bowie but i think

[78:02]he's a great artist and uh well i i gotta i gotta come back and listen to this one again so i well

[78:07]rolling well toned that's what i'll go with all right russell what do you think rolling well

[78:13]toned rolling bone or rolling grown where do you rank david bowie ziggy stardust and never the

[78:20]spiders from mars

[78:22]i

[78:24]I had never really listened to any david bowie before we started this quest to me this is the

[78:28]type of album that has made the whole quest and the podcast worth it i didn't expect to like this

[78:34]a week ago or two weeks ago i said we've reached the point where these albums cannot be in the top

[78:40]10 we've we've hit a tipping point i absolutely love this album i was shocked how much i loved it

[78:45]matt was saying you know elton john john lennon we've talked about billy joel or the

[78:49]the stones like to me he's got a lot of the best things of all these groups or bands or

[78:54]artists i absolutely think about it yeah i i love this this album i don't know if it's original to

[79:01]him i don't know enough about it but i love the album to me it's rolling boned it should be higher

[79:05]on the list a lower number guys this david this bowie is the most underranked bowie since sam bowie

[79:16]in front of michael jordan i don't know if those numbers actually make this is a rolling bowie for

[79:22]sure the correct answer is this is a rolling

[79:24]bowling bowie for sure the correct answer is this is a rolling bowling bowie for sure the correct answer is this is a rolling

[79:24]bowie for sure the correct answer is this is a rolling bowling bowie for sure the correct answer

[79:54]Let it bleed.

[79:56]Oh, boy.

[79:57]Oh, nice.

[79:58]Let me get back to some Stones.

[79:59]Wow.

[79:59]What's, like, the main song of Let It Bleed?

[80:02]What's the name of the song?

[80:04]Jimmy Shelter is the first track, right?

[80:07]Is it?

[80:08]I thought that was already on.

[80:09]If you want to hear poor guys who chat and then they get off track, I've got the perfect podcast for you, Jack.

[80:19]Beck did it better.

[80:23]Rob, I got a voicemail from your wife that said, Rob, we need to address your half-cocked wah-wah.

[80:29]It didn't matter what you said.

[80:35]I was going to play that.

[80:36]I thought it was pretty thin.
