Fleetwood Mac: Rumours (1977) (....about Lactose Intolerance)

Beck Did It Better Podcast 1977
About this episodeWelcome to the election day episode of BECK DID IT BETTER. This week we are electing the number 7 album on the list, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. We talk love triangles and how this sounds like a greatest hits album.  We also talk about the first song to hit a billion downloads on spotify and youtube and then get in an argument about whether "Wonder Wall" is truly a stadium anthem (it is).  Then we get into the double entendre part of the episode and we discuss the complicated relationships in the band Fleetwood Mac and NBA star Wesley Johnson.  Finally, Rob nominates himself to be the old man

[00:00]In 2020, four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by Rolling Stone magazine.

[00:05]This resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music, excoriated the order, and led us to making this podcast.

[00:11]We are far from experts and we promise to do almost no research.

[00:14]All opinions are our own unless you disagree.

[00:17]Please sit back and enjoy.

[00:19]Beck did it better.

[00:20]This is Rumors by Fleetwood Mac.

[00:23]So guys, I was doing some research for this band and I realized one thing that makes this band really interesting

[00:27]and it probably helped their creativity was that they had a bunch of love triangles.

[00:31]So I was thinking we should probably start a love triangle.

[00:34]I got Russell.

[00:35]I got Russell.

[00:36]Dibs on Russell.

[00:37]Nice, nice.

[00:38]Oh, this will work out great.

[00:40]Yeah, I think everything's fine.

[00:42]Rulers make bad lovers.

[00:43]You better put your podcast kingdom up for sale.

[00:46]Rob's out.

[00:48]You know, this is just a bit, but it hurt actually when we did it in real life.

[00:52]When you want to hear about the greatest albums of all time.

[00:57]But you're just too lazy to look it up online.

[01:02]If you want to hear from guys who chat and then they get all ready.

[01:07]I feel so in demand right now.

[01:08]I like it.

[01:08]I've got the perfect podcast for you, Jack.

[01:12]Beck did it better.

[01:15]All right.

[01:17]Yeah, my wife just came in and said that she wants to be involved in a love point.

[01:21]All right.

[01:22]So you guys, we are talking this week.

[01:26]Welcome to Beck did it better.

[01:27]We are talking this week about Fleetwood Mac's album Rumors.

[01:30]Did you guys hear about the new album they came out with about little vacuums?

[01:34]It's called Roombers.

[01:36]Oh, no.

[01:37]All right.

[01:40]So that's going to be the new alternate beginning of every episode we do.

[01:44]We might need to fire up the farbish sheet if this is where we're headed.

[01:47]Listen, it is fall.

[01:50]Okay.

[01:51]It is autumn.

[01:52]And let's meet the three guys who put the pumpkin my spice.

[01:55]Whoa.

[01:57]I don't like that.

[01:58]I don't like how that came out.

[01:59]Even on paper, I don't like how it looks.

[02:01]Let's meet.

[02:02]We got Matt in Minneapolis.

[02:04]Matt, how are you doing?

[02:05]I'm doing great, Rob.

[02:06]Thanks for having me.

[02:07]We've got Russ in Minnesota.

[02:09]Russ, how are you doing?

[02:10]Players only love you when they're playing, Rob.

[02:12]Oh, she don't love me.

[02:15]Rosie.

[02:17]We got Rosie out in California.

[02:19]She loves my doggy style.

[02:21]There we go.

[02:22]Somehow he's three hours behind us, yet he's still talking to us at the same time.

[02:25]I've never figured that out.

[02:26]Aaron, how are you doing?

[02:27]It's not a flat earth conspiracy.

[02:28]I'm good.

[02:29]I had squash for lunch today.

[02:30]That's as close as I'm getting to pumpkin spice so far.

[02:32]It was 80 degrees in Oakland, so no pumpkin spice yet here.

[02:35]Please, not this early, okay?

[02:39]Can you just give me a break?

[02:40]You just had squash?

[02:42]Was that the main part of your lunch was squash?

[02:44]No.

[02:45]I mean, well, it was kind of the main event.

[02:47]I had some squash that I roasted yesterday, and then we put some feta cheese on it today,

[02:52]and then we had some seitan on the side, and I got some new hot sauce.

[02:55]I'm really excited about that.

[02:56]What on the side?

[02:57]Six, six, six, six.

[02:58]Seitan on the side.

[03:00]My dad's going to listen to this.

[03:04]He's going to be like, where did I go wrong?

[03:05]Why is my son eating seitan?

[03:07]But, Dad, I had a burger not that long ago, too.

[03:09]Please believe.

[03:09]Has he called you to scold you about the microwave thing or anything recently or not?

[03:13]Not about the microwave, but he does occasionally send me a text about like,

[03:17]oh, I'm surprised you left California Dreaming off your California list, things like that.

[03:22]So he's definitely listening.

[03:22]He's not slamming you.

[03:23]He's slamming the content that you're putting out.

[03:25]That's even worse.

[03:26]Oh, yeah.

[03:26]Yeah.

[03:27]It's not that I don't love you.

[03:30]It's I don't love your content.

[03:31]Son, you need to work on your timing.

[03:35]You know what?

[03:38]Squash for lunch sounds gourd to me.

[03:40]Oh, no.

[03:42]No.

[03:43]No.

[03:44]We are off to a great start.

[03:46]I'm really happy.

[03:47]This is the perfect podcast.

[03:47]It's happening.

[03:48]It's really happening.

[03:50]All right.

[03:50]Let's get into it.

[03:51]Rolling going.

[03:51]Rolling going, everybody.

[03:53]Rolling going.

[03:54]How is it going?

[03:55]What are you into?

[03:57]Let's start out with Matt.

[03:58]Matt, rolling going.

[03:58]How are you doing?

[03:59]I'm doing well.

[04:00]I feel like I hardly ever have anything intelligent to add to this section of the podcast.

[04:06]So I was listening to the radio this week.

[04:09]Oh.

[04:09]You know.

[04:10]You know I love that.

[04:11]You know I love that.

[04:12]A lot of FM.

[04:14]A lot of 96.5.

[04:16]God, I wish I remember their call letters.

[04:19]But it's like kind of an alternative station here in Twin Cities.

[04:22]A lot of 97.1.

[04:24]You know.

[04:26]That's pretty much it.

[04:27]But you know, the good thing is, is these DJs, they fill their time with useless facts all

[04:32]the time.

[04:33]And you know, some of it's pretty darn good.

[04:35]Some of it's pretty darn good.

[04:36]Sounds like the second half of our podcast.

[04:37]Yeah.

[04:37]Exactly.

[04:38]I wonder if they take them right off Wikipedia, too.

[04:40]What are you talking about?

[04:45]Things I learned this week.

[04:46]Things I learned this week.

[04:47]Alanis Morissette has been nominated for 15 Tony Awards.

[04:51]Tonys?

[04:52]Yeah.

[04:53]That's for being on Broadway or what?

[04:54]Yeah.

[04:54]Jagged Little Pill.

[04:55]So Jagged Little Pill.

[04:56]It was made into a musical.

[04:58]Wow.

[05:00]And one of the things she's up for is Best Musical, Best Scenic Design, and a number of

[05:07]best performances by the actors.

[05:09]But I just kind of thought, apparently there's usually like 34 plays, I guess you'd call

[05:18]them.

[05:18]Musicals, plays.

[05:19]It's all the same thing.

[05:19]I don't know.

[05:20]I'm not a big Tony mind.

[05:21]They're like real life movies, man.

[05:24]Maybe that'll help you.

[05:25]But it's down to 19 this year.

[05:26]So of course, everybody's like, well, Alanis Morissette's up for 15.

[05:30]But there's a shortened bench this year, which I think is just bullshit because that album

[05:36]bangs.

[05:36]And so good for Alanis Morissette.

[05:38]Another thing that came up.

[05:40]Is that album on the list?

[05:41]Are we going to get to that one?

[05:42]It has to be on the list, right?

[05:43]That's on the list.

[05:44]Yep.

[05:44]I think it's in the early 60s.

[05:47]It was way down and it moved up into the top 100 somewhere.

[05:50]Next thing that came up, Oasis, Wonderwall hit a billion.

[05:56]Streams on Spotify.

[05:58]The first.

[05:59]I did read this.

[06:00]Yeah.

[06:00]First 90s song to hit a billion streams.

[06:04]And it kind of went to looking into seeing like, you know, I'm not a Spotify person.

[06:08]You know, YouTube's kind of the big one where, you know, how many spins on YouTube have things

[06:14]gotten.

[06:14]So, you know, I kind of just went to look quickly, see if that has been a billion views

[06:20]on YouTube.

[06:21]It hasn't.

[06:22]It hasn't.

[06:22]But there's been a couple of great 90s songs that have.

[06:26]Yeah.

[06:26]Made the list.

[06:28]Zombie by the Cranberries.

[06:29]One of my favorites.

[06:30]Wait, what list is this?

[06:32]This is a billion views on YouTube?

[06:33]On YouTube.

[06:34]Yeah.

[06:35]So, Zombie.

[06:36]And I think because, I think it's a dire wolf or a gray wolf or some wolf.

[06:40]Yes.

[06:40]That song is awesome.

[06:42]We should pull that up.

[06:43]It makes.

[06:43]Still not as good as the original.

[06:45]But, I mean, but it's pretty darn good.

[06:47]But you'll notice it's playing in the background right now.

[06:49]Yeah.

[06:50]But it kind of goes back to last week.

[06:53]Smells like Teen Spirit has over a billion views.

[06:55]Guns and Roses.

[06:56]November Rain.

[06:57]I mean, probably one of the best.

[06:58]Wow.

[06:59]Music videos of all time.

[07:01]Yeah.

[07:02]So, those three have hit it.

[07:03]And then there's three others.

[07:05]Queens.

[07:06]Bohemian Rhapsody.

[07:07]Obviously, that made it.

[07:10]Guns and Roses.

[07:11]Sweet Child of Mine.

[07:12]And A-Ha's Take On Me, which might be one of the best 80s songs of all time.

[07:17]Is that on the list?

[07:18]That's a great song, man.

[07:19]That's so surprising.

[07:20]I don't know.

[07:20]I don't think.

[07:21]I don't think.

[07:21]I don't think A-Ha's.

[07:22]No, but that song is definitely like on the top 500.

[07:26]Greatest songs of all time.

[07:27]You had mentioned Oasis.

[07:29]I saw a while back that Lars Ulrich from Metallica, the drummer from Metallica, actually called.

[07:34]Is it Noel Gallagher?

[07:35]Is that the Oasis singer?

[07:36]The lead guy?

[07:36]Yep.

[07:37]He actually called him his favorite songwriter ever.

[07:40]And I thought that was a pretty cool compliment.

[07:41]But admittedly, I always get Oasis and The Offspring confused.

[07:46]You know, I'm not really a music guy.

[07:47]I'm kind of an amateur hour when it comes to this.

[07:50]Oh, really?

[07:51]You confuse Oasis and Offspring and you're saying you're an amateur?

[07:54]I don't believe it.

[07:55]No way.

[07:55]I'm not saying like.

[07:56]I'm going to know if I hear Pretty Fly for a White Guy, I'm going to say, oh, that's Offspring.

[08:00]But if I hear one of those Oasis songs, I might know it.

[08:03]But in my mind, I get them confused.

[08:05]It's kind of similar to the whole Wilson Pickett.

[08:07]What was the other one?

[08:08]Wilson Phillips.

[08:09]Wilson Phillips deal.

[08:10]You know, what I would advise Russell is one way I remember him is I try to keep him separated.

[08:15]And I find that that's what I generally do with my online dates.

[08:21]That's why they happen so infrequently.

[08:26]Well, you know, so the, you know, that song Wonderwall and Brandon from Minneapolis will hate me.

[08:32]Krista's husband, Krista from Minneapolis' husband will hate me for saying this.

[08:36]But the local football team.

[08:38]I don't like that Matt calls her by the right name.

[08:40]I don't like that.

[08:40]Yeah, no.

[08:41]Football in my air quotes.

[08:43]For some reason she hasn't called in the last three weeks.

[08:45]Who knows why?

[08:45]Our local MLS team has taken Wonderwall as kind of their song and it just drives me bonkers.

[08:51]I have no idea why Wonderwall.

[08:53]I know, but like, why is it a soccer song?

[08:55]Why are the.

[08:56]The dark cloud.

[08:58]Why are they singing?

[08:59]What does it have to do with soccer?

[09:01]Football.

[09:01]What does that do to football?

[09:02]I don't know.

[09:03]So what, Matt, in your mind, in your mind, what's a better.

[09:05]Probably something by the clash.

[09:07]I don't know.

[09:07]I mean, something.

[09:08]I mean, like how it just kind of brings you down, doesn't it?

[09:11]I mean, well, how are you going to get pumped up for a football match by singing Wonderwall?

[09:15]Can we hear it?

[09:15]Can we pull it up or not?

[09:17]I bet like, yeah, you can get like, oh, we're going to get pumped.

[09:20]Yeah.

[09:20]Aaron, you would probably do like two, two trips.

[09:26]On your little amateur dirt bike ride, but you wouldn't make all five.

[09:29]If you were listening to Wonderwall, you listen to offspring song, you'd probably get through

[09:35]four or five though.

[09:36]I would have made through all five segments.

[09:38]Yeah.

[09:39]If you're Russell, you don't know what you're listening to.

[09:40]You're like, man, Russell just goes to a concert and is like, yeah, I guess I had a roommate

[09:44]in college and he was really into the offspring freshman.

[09:47]I remember this.

[09:48]And he was kind of an a-hole about it.

[09:51]And he would put the offspring on super loud on his MP3 player and go to class and lock

[09:56]the door and just let it crank.

[09:57]So the whole floor had to listen to it and couldn't turn it off.

[09:59]That's a normal person thing to do.

[10:01]Definitely not a psychopath.

[10:01]That sounds like par for the course for St. Olaf.

[10:05]I hope he's not listening, but he might've been a sociopath.

[10:07]This sounds like soccer to me.

[10:10]This is a soccer song?

[10:11]Yeah.

[10:12]Russell's confused.

[10:12]I don't get it.

[10:13]This sucks.

[10:14]It's a great song, but like, I don't know how they pick it for their, their song.

[10:19]We should probably do a whole episode on soccer.

[10:23]Maybe Brandon from Minneapolis can call in.

[10:26]Tell me why.

[10:26]Listen, it's the perfect stadium song.

[10:28]Why?

[10:29]What?

[10:30]Because everyone sings along and you can just like full throat it.

[10:32]Like a COVID stadium song where there's nobody there.

[10:35]This is brutal.

[10:37]Listen, I know, I know Aaron wants that Gary Glitter song to come back.

[10:41]Rob, I would like to pull up.

[10:43]You know, we got to edit that out.

[10:45]Every time you try this shit on me and Russell, a week later says, nope, a hundred percent.

[10:49]That's got to go.

[10:49]Nope.

[10:50]I'm going to bring up Gary Glitter later.

[10:51]Gary Glitter?

[10:53]I separate the artist and the art.

[10:54]What do you want me to do?

[10:55]Oh my God.

[10:55]That's the greatest stadium song ever.

[10:57]I think the greatest stadium song ever is Chelsea Dagger, which is what they play when the Blackhawks score a goal.

[11:03]Can we pull that one up quick?

[11:04]Oh, that's pretty good.

[11:05]And then tell me that's not a thousand times better than this, this Oasis or Offspring song.

[11:11]Is it better than Seven Nation Army though?

[11:13]Oh, this is better.

[11:14]But we should, we should say that, you know, Wonderwall is a phenomenal song.

[11:19]It's just not a good stadium song.

[11:21]I don't think people sing along together.

[11:23]That's like this whole thing, I think.

[11:24]Right.

[11:25]I'm singing.

[11:26]But like, it's cool when you say the Wonderwall, Wonderwall, that's it.

[11:29]It's the same reason why Green Bay has that dumb, I don't want to work song.

[11:33]You can sing it.

[11:34]It doesn't mean anything.

[11:35]Hey, if my team's, my team's scoring or winning a game, this will jam.

[11:40]There's a, it'll kick up.

[11:43]Yeah.

[11:43]But I think soccer has ended the like fans singing along together thing.

[11:46]Cause what is it?

[11:47]Everton has you'll never walk alone or which, which, which team has that one?

[11:50]Like this?

[11:55]Like this is great.

[11:58]After you score a goal, when we own a truck in Chicago, right?

[12:02]I, Matt, you couldn't be more wrong about Wonderwall not being a good stadium song.

[12:06]No, Matt, you weren't correct.

[12:08]I'm with Matt.

[12:09]If Matt and I team up, you guys are going down.

[12:11]That is a horrible stadium song.

[12:13]Oh no.

[12:14]That I would love to sing that song in a stadium.

[12:16]It's if you were in a stadium and everyone started singing it, I guarantee tears falling

[12:19]straight from your eyes.

[12:20]You'd be ready to do it for whatever team you're cheering for.

[12:24]Good thing.

[12:25]I'm not a sports fan anymore and I don't have to watch any of this anymore.

[12:28]If you, if you cheer, if you cheer for the teams I cheer for, they never score.

[12:31]So you don't get a chance to sing the song anyway.

[12:32]So who cares?

[12:33]But the biggest gangster move ever was the Viking stealing Iceland's a skull chant.

[12:41]If you're in, if you're in the stadium, when they're doing that, it's phenomenal.

[12:46]It's the greatest thing ever.

[12:47]And they cut 100% just stole it from the country of Iceland, but it's hilarious.

[12:52]It's great.

[12:52]What's Iceland going to do to us?

[12:53]I mean, they stole the Viking nickname.

[12:55]I mean, like it doesn't mean it's maybe not even stealing.

[12:58]It's like, well, I'm pretty sure the football team had that first.

[13:01]Yeah.

[13:01]Like the true Vikings.

[13:02]If the Minnesota Vikings were actually started by the Vikings, a lot of people don't know

[13:06]that if actual Vikings are doing it, then you got to do it.

[13:09]I've heard of Jerry Burns.

[13:10]Yeah.

[13:11]Haven't you ever heard of Eric, the red McCombs?

[13:13]Um, and that's a good joke for about three people out there.

[13:17]That was good.

[13:18]I appreciate that.

[13:25]Wonderwall.

[13:25]If I could sing that song every day, I would, but I can't.

[13:28]All right, Russ, rolling, going, how's it going?

[13:30]Rob, I was going to complain about the fact that we just got snow today and, and talk

[13:35]about at what point do you need to just move away like Aaron did, but you guys brought

[13:39]up the term pumpkin spice latte, I believe earlier.

[13:42]So I feel like I need to pivot right now.

[13:44]I said pump in pump in my spice.

[13:47]That's what I said, technically.

[13:49]And I'm not happy that I have to repeat that.

[13:50]Well, then I will, I will pivot again.

[13:52]But when I heard pumpkin,

[13:55]pumpkin spice latte, I've never really heard that term before.

[13:58]I don't drink flavored coffees or whatever that even is.

[14:01]Yeah.

[14:01]But it's like, it's like a thing in society, Russell.

[14:04]Like you don't have to drink it.

[14:05]You've never heard of that before.

[14:06]There's a reason I'm still single.

[14:08]It's probably because of reactions like this to terms that are commonly known.

[14:11]I, that is wild.

[14:13]Chicks, chicks with big fluffy scarves and, and brown boots up to their knees.

[14:18]Love pumpkin.

[14:19]So here's why I bring it up is I remember a few years ago when I was doing the online

[14:23]dating thing, it wasn't going very well.

[14:25]And I, I reverted, I didn't have you guys to ask questions about this because I can

[14:29]do it on a, on a podcast and it's not so bad.

[14:31]But if I just asked you like as regular friends, it would feel so terrible to me.

[14:35]I can't, I can't have a regular conversation about that.

[14:37]But so I, I remember Googling one time, like, Hey, what is the best way?

[14:42]Like, what is the, what are the words you need to put in your profile or how do you

[14:45]need to like make a good profile?

[14:47]And I remember at one point reading this article about how rich the term pumpkin spice latte

[14:53]gets the most reaction.

[14:54]Or the most responses, but the second most responses were the words, Tuscany, Bermuda

[15:01]or Machu Picchu.

[15:03]So for a while, my go-to question and like the introductory moment of, Hey, I'm going

[15:08]to message some woman was where would you rather go on a dream vacation?

[15:12]Tuscany, Bermuda or Machu Picchu.

[15:16]Cause I figured if I combined all three words into one, I was guaranteed to crush it.

[15:20]And it failed miserably.

[15:23]You're like a mega, you're like the Megatron.

[15:24]Of dating.

[15:25]You've combined everything that's good about dating into one sentence and the women are

[15:29]helpless in front of you, Russell.

[15:31]It's almost unfair.

[15:31]Being efficient.

[15:32]That's just efficiency.

[15:33]The big problem was every time they would respond and they would say, well, I would

[15:35]love to have a pumpkin spice latte and Machu Picchu.

[15:37]And I was like, what the fuck's a pumpkin spice latte?

[15:39]And I never hear from him again.

[15:41]Yeah.

[15:41]Where, where is Machu Picchu?

[15:43]Do they, do they play with, do they open for the offspring?

[15:46]I love their song Wonderwall.

[15:48]Just mistake after mistake.

[15:49]You know, it's a good joke when I had to explain it immediately after the punchline, quote

[15:54]unquote punchline.

[15:54]Uh, yeah, I, um, fuck, I should be listening more and trying to go off what you said, Russell.

[16:01]I know what I'm going to say.

[16:03]Russell, I love, I love pumpkin spice coffee.

[16:07]I, the pumpkin spiced iced coffee right now at Starbucks.

[16:10]Oh my God.

[16:11]I'm going broke.

[16:11]I'm ordering them so much.

[16:12]Is it better than a shamrock shake?

[16:15]No, but I can, you, you can't go into work with a shamrock shake in your hand and look

[16:22]like a normal person.

[16:23]You look like a psychopath.

[16:24]But I can go in with a coffee all the time.

[16:26]That's rule number three while I'm still single.

[16:28]I got, but if you go in without deodorant on and holding a shamrock shake, then you're

[16:33]the stinky teacher with a shamrock shake.

[16:34]Does that, there's one cancelling chicken in a bucket and I got problems now too, because

[16:39]I am pretty sure that I am getting more and more lactose intolerant as I get older, but

[16:44]I am like, but I am like forgetting about it.

[16:47]Like just, just, I'll just forget and I'll order a latte and then I'll be at work and

[16:50]I'll be like Rob's Rob's discussion.

[16:52]No, no, no, no, no, no.

[16:54]You said you deleted it.

[16:55]You said you deleted them.

[16:56]Did you delete them?

[16:58]This is worse than Aaron.

[16:59]Rob talking about his intolerance of lactose is way worse than any feet discussion.

[17:05]And when we cut Aaron off all the time for saying stuff that we think is porn talk, Rob's

[17:12]discussion of his intolerance of milk products does not need to be on the podcast.

[17:16]How did way worse than Aaron become like the worst thing you could do on this podcast?

[17:20]Like everything's fine.

[17:21]As long as you're a great question, Aaron, we're all asking the same thing.

[17:24]You guys don't realize it because I have to edit this out, but the stuff I hear Aaron say

[17:27]on the podcast, I've edited out and make your sweet, sexy toes curl right up.

[17:31]I mean, it's just terrible, but I'm telling you, if you want to get lactose intolerant

[17:36]as you get older, a really cool job to have is a teaching middle school.

[17:39]That's really fun.

[17:40]It's like, it's like, Oh, when can I go to the bathroom?

[17:43]Oh, how about right in the middle of this class?

[17:45]Definitely nobody's going to notice.

[17:46]It's not a big deal.

[17:47]Come back.

[17:48]Just all sweaty.

[17:49]What's the deal with the iced coffees, Rob?

[17:53]You don't have hot.

[17:54]You, you, you've said this a number of times.

[17:55]You typically have ice.

[17:57]I have an iced coffee maker.

[17:58]It's so good.

[17:59]It's smoother.

[17:59]It tastes better.

[18:01]You can drink it like all the time.

[18:02]You don't need to like, you don't need to worry about it getting too cold.

[18:05]It just, I love iced coffee.

[18:07]If I could only have one drink for the rest of my life, it might be iced coffee.

[18:10]Iced coffees are like a milkshake.

[18:12]I went on a date once.

[18:13]So I'm not a coffee drinker.

[18:14]I've had less than probably five cups of coffee in my life.

[18:16]It's just not my thing.

[18:17]And I went on a date once and she wanted to go to a coffee shop and I was like, okay,

[18:21]I really do.

[18:22]I mean, I can't get drunk at this coffee shop.

[18:24]I don't know how I'm supposed to interact with you and make any sort of conversation.

[18:27]So, so I, I agreed to go, but I went to where things are going wrong.

[18:32]I've, I've, I've been on a date, I think at a coffee shop once or twice.

[18:35]And I ordered a hot chocolate once.

[18:37]And then the other time I did an iced coffee because I was told they're good.

[18:40]And it was essentially a milkshake, right?

[18:42]It's not, it's not coffee.

[18:43]It's a milkshake.

[18:44]Did you order a Frappuccino, Russell?

[18:46]I think you might've gotten a Frappuccino by accident.

[18:48]Is that possible?

[18:49]We started making iced coffee at home when our son was born three and a half years ago.

[18:53]And we've never stopped.

[18:54]Like, cause we were always afraid of spilling hot coffee on the baby.

[18:57]And now it's just like, I prefer iced coffee.

[18:59]Also use actual glacier ice or do you buy that ice from the store or what?

[19:03]Just straight from the tap, straight from the tap into the fridge and the ice trays.

[19:08]Yeah.

[19:09]But here, so I don't know what Matt's stuff, but you drink tap water.

[19:12]I don't know what Matt's sweat situation is.

[19:15]I think Matt is like a more naturally regulated person than the other three of us.

[19:20]But listen, I'm a sweaty guy.

[19:23]Like other men on this podcast might be.

[19:25]And well, there's a title for this episode, sweaty guy episode.

[19:31]I'm a wild and sweaty guy.

[19:34]I haven't learned that the iced coffee is always better.

[19:36]If you're in an airport, get an iced coffee.

[19:38]If you're going to work, get the iced coffee.

[19:40]Because otherwise I'm going to have the full on sweat from neck to waist on the back of my shirt.

[19:45]Like I can't do hot coffee in public.

[19:47]I've never ever had that.

[19:48]So that makes sense.

[19:50]If I had that, I'd be in your shoes.

[19:51]Yeah, iced coffee is way better for me.

[19:53]Hey, I'm a sweaty guy.

[19:55]And you know what's really fun being a sweaty guy?

[19:57]Once again, teaching middle schoolers.

[19:59]They definitely are chill about their teacher being super sweaty.

[20:01]Not a big deal to them.

[20:03]They definitely won't make fun of you.

[20:04]We may need to move on.

[20:05]Every time we bring up something, we bring up something that's bringing back a bad first

[20:08]date memory for me and this sweating thing.

[20:10]We got to move on, right?

[20:11]Let's get it.

[20:12]Let's move over.

[20:12]Let's keep going.

[20:13]Let's keep it going.

[20:14]All right.

[20:14]So I want to talk about my small penis.

[20:15]No.

[20:16]Why did Aaron laugh?

[20:23]He laughed so hard at that.

[20:24]I don't know.

[20:25]That's our bleep joke of the week right there.

[20:27]All right.

[20:28]That was Rob's bleep joke of the week.

[20:31]Oh, yeah.

[20:33]All right.

[20:35]Rolling going.

[20:37]Aaron, rolling going.

[20:37]How's it going with you?

[20:38]Wow.

[20:40]It's hard to transition, but I'm going to focus.

[20:42]It's going good with me.

[20:44]Like Matt, I'm also having trouble sticking to the list because there's so much good music

[20:49]out there.

[20:49]There's a brand new Sade.

[20:53]Box set that's out, which I've not purchased on vinyl yet.

[20:56]But the funny thing about this box set is that they went through an extensive remastering

[21:01]process, re-released everything, all six of Sade's studio albums on 180 gram vinyl.

[21:07]But it's also available on Spotify, which on the one hand is like, well, whatever, it's

[21:11]just streaming music.

[21:12]But on the other is like, oh, this is wonderful.

[21:14]Like, I'll just put this on at 5 p.m.

[21:17]And I'm set for the night.

[21:18]That's my music for the night.

[21:19]It's six studio albums.

[21:20]So that's great.

[21:21]I've been enjoying that.

[21:22]Is that okay?

[21:23]Is that a problem you have, Aaron, that you're running out of music on Spotify?

[21:25]Like you just don't have enough to listen to?

[21:27]I cannot imagine that's your problem at night.

[21:29]But the thing is, like, when there's infinite music out there, sometimes you run out of ideas

[21:33]for what to listen to.

[21:33]So this is great.

[21:34]Like, I don't need an idea.

[21:35]It's easy to run out of ideas when you don't listen to the top 500.

[21:38]You just skip them, right?

[21:40]It's easy to run out.

[21:40]Or the podcast.

[21:41]Listen, I'm going to be prepared.

[21:43]I've got some thoughts about this album.

[21:45]I promise you I'll be prepared.

[21:46]But I do get distracted.

[21:47]Aaron, do you ever have conflicts with your wife at home listening to music?

[21:53]Like, maybe too much Sade or something?

[21:55]Yeah, like this week, listening to this album, she's like, I don't want to listen to this

[21:58]ever again.

[21:59]The other one I've been trying to get into is the hot internet hip-hop sensation, which

[22:06]is Griselda.

[22:07]This is a hip-hop collective out of Buffalo, New York.

[22:11]And it's Benny the Butcher, Conway, and West Side Gun are the rappers.

[22:16]I'm losing track of the producer.

[22:17]Yeah, we know.

[22:18]You don't have to explain Griselda to us, please.

[22:20]I like them a lot.

[22:20]Is Griselda commonly known?

[22:21]Like, if I were to use that as my...

[22:23]If I were to use my intro on a dating app and say, hey, have you heard the new Griselda

[22:25]song?

[22:26]Like, would anyone know who I'm talking about?

[22:27]They did a live concert at Machu Picchu.

[22:29]You would probably find some ladies who like to get down, is what I'm saying.

[22:34]Probably on TikTok, huh?

[22:37]Is he on TikTok?

[22:37]Rob, do the kids at your school listen to Griselda?

[22:39]They're in New York, you know, sensation.

[22:41]I don't talk to them.

[22:42]The kids at school bully me because I'm sweaty and I'm going to the bathroom.

[22:45]I don't have time.

[22:46]I should have got the iced coffee.

[22:49]So that's it.

[22:50]That's how it's rolling going with me.

[22:51]When I'm not...

[22:53]Doing another scan through rumors this week, I've been trying to explore some other tunes.

[22:57]But like, Rosie, I was just going to say, I feel like the internet sensation artist is

[23:02]where I'm finally becoming an old man.

[23:05]Like, I refuse to get TikTok.

[23:08]We've been about 20 episodes of this, Matt.

[23:10]You were an old man long ago.

[23:12]I know.

[23:12]But like, you know, like, I don't mind, like, I love listening to Outkast and I love listening

[23:18]to some Kendrick Lamar and some of the stuff that I would be outside of what I would be,

[23:22]typically known to listen to, right?

[23:24]But like, some of, you know, when you've got all these artists that have got a bunch of

[23:28]exes on them and they're known because of their MySpace pages and, you know, their TikTok

[23:33]pages and things like that, I feel like that's where I've drawn the line.

[23:36]Like, I've never heard of anybody that you've said there, right?

[23:39]And they're not on the radio, but they're huge because of what they've done on YouTube

[23:43]or TikTok or any of these kind of things.

[23:46]And I feel like that's where I finally jumped the shark to being outside of kind of the

[23:50]what's hip now with it and wow.

[23:52]I think if you ever use the term hip, it means you're out of it.

[23:57]You were gone long ago.

[23:58]Yeah, that's true.

[23:59]That's true.

[24:00]Like, wasn't Hip to be Square the big song about 30, 40 years ago?

[24:04]Yeah.

[24:05]If you listen to the news.

[24:06]Who also recorded at the record plant in Sausalito, which I'm very excited to talk about.

[24:11]But there's another band, the Tragically Hip, out of Canada, which I've come to lately.

[24:18]They're, you know, they're called The Hip.

[24:22]And so I identify with those folks and I'm definitely not hip anymore.

[24:28]Yeah, if you use the word, you've used the word hip and the word folks within the last

[24:33]couple sentences, I think we've established where you're at in society right now, man.

[24:39]So what if I say, hey, I slipped in the bathroom because I'm lactose intolerant, folks, and

[24:43]I hurt my hip.

[24:44]You're saying that doesn't make me sound like a cool young guy?

[24:47]I don't like, by the way, that this episode is just about my lactose intolerance, Aaron.

[24:51]Thanks a lot.

[24:52]Yuki, bring it up.

[24:53]Once again, I'm curious how it's rolling going with Rob.

[24:57]That's what I want to know.

[24:58]How's Rob rolling going this week?

[24:59]I will say I am taking Muay Thai on the weekends, like as a as like a exercise thing.

[25:06]And so I am working out with a guy who is holding the bags for me and I'm under the

[25:11]Brooklyn Bridge and I am right next to the.

[25:14]Wait, wait, wait.

[25:16]You got to go under the Brooklyn Bridge.

[25:18]You can't rip Aaron and then not explain why you're doing Muay Thai under the Brooklyn.

[25:22]Well, this is a guy that we've been training with for a long time, but you got to be outside

[25:26]now doing this.

[25:27]You can't just be inside.

[25:28]So he has he runs like a Saturday lesson under the bridge.

[25:31]You know, it's me and Flea and Anthony Kiedis and those guys.

[25:35]And that's a cool hip reference.

[25:39]Yeah.

[25:40]And all the.

[25:41]Listen, I know.

[25:42]Richfield, Minnesota.

[25:43]I don't have to.

[25:43]I don't have to get that reference.

[25:45]But basically, I was thinking about it this weekend and I was like, you know, I'm such

[25:49]a competitive person and powerlifting means just aren't going on right now.

[25:52]And I'm not.

[25:52]I'm not good enough at weightlifting to actually be in a meet.

[25:54]I'm thinking about maybe just getting into a Muay Thai fight just to get the shit out

[25:58]of me.

[25:58]Like, I think that'd be fun.

[25:59]And the thing about Muay Thai is it's like kickboxing.

[26:01]OK, so, man, just a big head shake.

[26:03]OK, not supportive, man.

[26:04]But.

[26:05]You're right.

[26:06]No, no.

[26:06]Supportive.

[26:07]Rob, don't do it.

[26:08]Is this like an underground blood sport style?

[26:11]This is like this is like a.

[26:13]Yes.

[26:13]Back alley kind of Muay Thai fight.

[26:15]Is there headgear?

[26:16]The guy.

[26:16]Is there headgear?

[26:17]Yeah, there would be in like the smoker fight things.

[26:19]But the thing is about Muay Thai is that.

[26:21]The headgear is great.

[26:22]Well, a smoker fight?

[26:23]I need to hear.

[26:23]I need to know everything about this.

[26:25]Is that Muay Thai is not just kickboxing because you can also throw knees and elbows, which

[26:31]is what I was thinking about this week.

[26:32]And I was like, I kind of want to do this.

[26:33]And then I started working on my elbows and I was like, I was like, I cannot get hit by.

[26:38]Can you imagine getting hit by somebody's elbow and then having them knee you?

[26:40]I'd just be like, well, I'm done forever.

[26:42]Like I run it.

[26:43]I ran into like a table the other day on my hip and it hurts so bad for hours.

[26:48]Did somebody intentionally need me?

[26:50]No way.

[26:50]Forget about it.

[26:51]Plus, all the guys.

[26:51]I'd fight.

[26:52]I'd fight would be like six foot four.

[26:53]All these heavyweight guys.

[26:54]They'd be giant compared to me.

[26:56]It'd be a disaster.

[26:57]So.

[26:57]And what sort of venues are these fights occurring?

[26:59]And these are because I'm picturing Fight Club.

[27:01]I'm picturing, you know, you walk into a bar and then you go downstairs and then there's

[27:05]like a whole.

[27:06]Right.

[27:07]Finish him.

[27:08]Get over here.

[27:10]They actually used to have what they call these smoker fights somewhere in the city

[27:13]where you could just go and pay a little money and watch kind of semi mostly amateur guys

[27:17]fight each other.

[27:18]And the person is kind of insulting because the guy who trained us did tell my wife that

[27:21]like, oh, you are really good.

[27:23]You should come be in a smoker fight.

[27:24]And I was like, I would a humble break.

[27:27]I think that would be so hot watching my wife either just kick the shit out of some other

[27:34]woman or get kicked out of her by some other woman.

[27:38]It doesn't matter to me.

[27:38]I'm into it either way.

[27:39]You would be an amazing character on like Mortal Kombat 25 anniversary or whatever they're

[27:45]up to right now.

[27:46]I think you would be an awesome, an awesome Mortal Kombat character.

[27:49]It's me and Robocop and Rambo.

[27:50]Those are all characters now.

[27:51]And Mortal Kombat.

[27:51]Mortal Kombat.

[27:52]By the way, I do want to remind you that more Robocop did wrestle once in the WWE.

[27:56]You can look that up on YouTube.

[27:57]It's very, uh, it's actually WCW Rob, but I was thinking about my next joke.

[28:03]I wasn't really into it.

[28:04]Delete that.

[28:04]Delete that.

[28:05]I can't have any women ever hearing that.

[28:07]WCW is number 1 million on the things you can write on your dating profile to get likes.

[28:12]I was, the only thing was if I'm in a fight, I'm afraid that when somebody starts beating

[28:16]on me that I'll just have a rock hard erection the whole time.

[28:18]So I don't know.

[28:19]Like that.

[28:21]Seems like it might be a problem.

[28:22]And Aaron's nodding knowingly.

[28:26]So I don't know.

[28:26]All right.

[28:27]Let's get into it.

[28:29]We are over time.

[28:30]We are, we're talking about everything below the waist for me today, which I guess I'm,

[28:34]come on, sickos.

[28:35]Let's talk about rumors.

[28:37]Mortal Kombat would be, he would drink like a big gallon of milk and just like have a

[28:41]lactose intolerant moment.

[28:44]Finish him.

[28:45]That would be his fatality or whatever it's called on Mortal Kombat.

[28:48]It would not take a gallon of milk.

[28:49]It would take like one cup right now.

[28:51]All right.

[28:52]So we are talking about, let's switch gears.

[28:55]I don't know how to do this.

[28:55]Can we play some music or whatever and do a break or something?

[28:58]Uh, we are talking about the 1977 album, uh, this one Grammy of the year in 78.

[29:03]It's, it's pretty much everyone knows it's one of the greatest albums of all time.

[29:07]And actually this is now back on the rumors by Fleetwood Mac.

[29:11]It is now back in the billboard top 10 after that Tik TOK video of the guy with the skateboard.

[29:16]And we definitely were right on top of it and didn't miss it by about, Oh, four weeks or so to where we could actually get people to listen.

[29:22]Which was pretty cool.

[29:23]If anybody hasn't seen the video, you should look it up.

[29:26]Cause it's pretty cool watching that dude just skateboard down the road.

[29:29]I do have to say, I am suspicious that that video came out and then he happened to be drinking something with the label facing out.

[29:36]So you could tell exactly what he's drinking and the same week that Stevie Nicks was coming out with a new song.

[29:43]And all of a sudden the viral video involves Fleetwood Mac.

[29:45]He fully admits he puts out all that dude.

[29:48]He talked about it.

[29:49]He puts out all sorts of content.

[29:51]He's always looking to put out content and he finally hit on one.

[29:54]And so what the hell are you guys talking about?

[29:56]Aaron, you know what they're talking about?

[29:57]I, I do.

[29:59]I've not seen the whole video, but, um, isn't his name dog face, right?

[30:02]Like the guy, but he's probably like, we're talking about dog face.

[30:08]Yeah.

[30:08]But like the dude talks about, he's always trying to put out content.

[30:11]Just it's a viral sensation on the Tik TOKs.

[30:15]That's sick.

[30:16]I can't imagine just working to put out content, no matter who's listening or watching.

[30:21]Uh, so rumors by Fleetwood Mac is actually, I think this is really interesting.

[30:24]It's actually one of the top selling albums of all time.

[30:27]Okay.

[30:27]It is behind E uh, Michael Jackson, thriller, the Eagles, greatest hits, uh, Shania Twain.

[30:33]Uh, and it is ahead of, it is ahead of Whitney Houston, ACDC back in black, by the way, Whitney

[30:39]Houston, the soundtrack to the bodyguard, uh, pink Floyd and the BG Saturday night fever.

[30:45]It is ahead of all those albums, but to really talk about this album, I just want to put

[30:48]it in context real quick.

[30:49]I think the best thing to think about with the.

[30:51]The band Fleetwood Mac, which, uh, we have the, the members, Mick Fleetwood, Christine

[30:55]McVie, John McVie.

[30:57]I'm not sure if I'm saying that right.

[30:58]And then they brought in, they, the, the, the members are always changing, but they

[31:02]brought in Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and Lindsey Buckingham came in and said, I'll

[31:06]be in the band in one, one condition.

[31:09]You've got to take on my girlfriend, Stevie Nicks.

[31:12]She's also a musician with me.

[31:14]We're, we're in love and we're going to be together forever.

[31:16]So they recorded their first album together named, uh, Fleetwood Mac.

[31:21]It's actually Fleetwood Mac's 10th album.

[31:22]Their first one was also named Fleetwood Mac.

[31:24]It's very confusing.

[31:25]And then everyone just broke up at once before this album is basically what happened.

[31:29]They all broke up and basically, uh, they started writing songs about how much they

[31:34]hated each other, which is what every song on this album is about is how Buckingham wrote

[31:38]secondhand news, never going back again and go your own way about Knicks.

[31:41]Generally, my comments about every podcast back to Rob is how much I hate all of you

[31:46]guys.

[31:46]So just Jimmy, just take that from the top.

[31:50]Secondhand news.

[31:50]Secondhand news is about Stevie Nicks.

[31:52]That, that's pretty right.

[31:54]That is fucking gangster.

[31:56]What about, what?

[31:56]That's awesome.

[31:57]Yeah.

[31:57]You're a secondhand news.

[31:59]This is the original, this is the original fake news.

[32:02]Secondhand news is the original fake news.

[32:04]That's awesome.

[32:05]Ah, that's fake news.

[32:07]Ah, you're a secondhand news.

[32:08]That's awesome.

[32:09]What if while you were breaking up with somebody, you were in a band with them and they wrote

[32:12]never going back again.

[32:13]Like I hang out with you guys like two hours a week and we talk and we've had our conflicts

[32:17]and whatever, but we're not like having sex with each other.

[32:20]Or we're not seeing each other in person.

[32:22]Can you imagine being together in person recording this and we're all having sex with each other?

[32:25]It would get so confusing.

[32:26]Well, I got Russell.

[32:30]No, I'm not doing this again.

[32:32]If you were trying to have sex with Rob, you'd have to do it in between lattes also.

[32:36]And you got to space it out.

[32:37]This is not what we're talking about.

[32:40]You started it, man.

[32:41]I don't like this.

[32:42]I would have started a podcast many years ago if this was all I needed to like improve

[32:46]my love life.

[32:47]I mean, it's just as easy.

[32:49]So the McVeigh's work.

[32:50]Where the keyboard player and the bassist, they were married to each other, but the moment

[32:55]they started recording this album, they were not on speaking terms.

[32:58]And the reason is, is that Christine McVeigh just happened to be banging the lighting director

[33:03]of the band at the time.

[33:04]After four years earlier, she had also dated the sound engineer of the band.

[33:08]So then, okay, now this is where it gets a little confusing.

[33:11]Lesson number one.

[33:12]Hey, don't date the coworkers, right?

[33:13]Don't date the lighting guy.

[33:15]Oh, yeah.

[33:16]Right.

[33:16]Aim higher.

[33:17]Never get high on your own supply, right?

[33:20]Oh, can you imagine?

[33:20]Can you imagine being the lighting guy in the band and all of a sudden you're banging

[33:23]one of the members of the band?

[33:24]You'd be like, I'm never getting fired ever.

[33:25]This is great.

[33:26]This is wonderful.

[33:26]I said a huge crank.

[33:27]So then.

[33:28]Wow.

[33:29]Like, yeah, bleep that shit.

[33:33]In the lighting industry, that's known as a switch.

[33:35]So then this is where it gets confusing, right?

[33:40]Is that Stevie Nicks broke up with Lindsey Buckingham, which had happened right before

[33:43]this album.

[33:44]And by the way, they all kind of lived together to record this album in a very small space.

[33:48]And then Stevie Nicks started dating.

[33:50]And then Stevie Nicks started dating the drummer, Mick Fleetwood, but when she was dating Mick

[33:54]Fleetwood, she was also dating Don Henley at the time.

[33:57]And Mick Fleetwood was married.

[33:59]What?

[34:00]So then Mick Fleetwood, Mick Fleetwood dumped his wife at the time and they got divorced

[34:07]and Mick Fleetwood broke up with Stevie Nicks.

[34:10]And then Mick Fleetwood started dating Stevie Nicks, best friend.

[34:13]And she found out from her friend's husband who said, just to let you know, my wife and

[34:18]your ex-boyfriend and drummer in the band, by the way, currently.

[34:20]They're all still in a band together.

[34:22]Not now, but they were then.

[34:24]They are now living together.

[34:26]And she found this out three months.

[34:28]Rob, Matt, and Aaron, I have a major announcement to make about my dating.

[34:31]I've been seeing all your wives for like the last three years.

[34:34]Oh, that's why she's so happy recently.

[34:36]But then.

[34:40]I don't know if I can take this, Russell.

[34:41]Just to let you know is that they, they, they, she found out that her best friend was now

[34:47]dating Mick Fleetwood three months into an album recording.

[34:50]That was a total of a 13 month recording session.

[34:53]So they had to hang out for that long where everybody's just cheating on each other and

[34:57]everybody's mad at each other.

[34:58]And all that stuff is really what, what fuels this whole album.

[35:02]Didn't Bob Dylan record his albums in like two nights or like a weekend or something?

[35:06]Yeah, but he wasn't holed up in Sausalito doing nitrous or whatever.

[35:10]Like he was, you know, he probably had to pay for studio time.

[35:13]This was like they're at the record plant in Sausalito.

[35:15]They probably were like sailing over to, you know, Angel Island or whatever and camping

[35:19]overnight and then like coming back.

[35:20]And doing Nas.

[35:21]That's the difference.

[35:22]He was doing speed.

[35:23]He got everything done real fast.

[35:24]Sausalito sounds way more cooler than, than Bermuda, Machu Picchu or Tuscany.

[35:29]I'm going to add Sausalito to my, my, my future questions.

[35:32]I have a lot to say about Sausalito as we get into this album.

[35:34]Of course you do.

[35:36]It's not that far from me.

[35:39]Like I've been there a bunch of times.

[35:40]It's just like a little tourist stop off the ferry now.

[35:42]I didn't even know it was such a drug haven back in the day.

[35:45]I heard that lighting guy had a big Sausalito.

[35:50]Now we can't edit that out.

[35:51]What's strange to me is I don't hear any of that.

[35:54]Like this sounds, I mean, it does sound like a, it sounds like an album that like a bunch

[35:57]of swingers would have put on and like a swingers party in the seventies.

[36:00]So I get it.

[36:01]I get like, it seems like a wife swapping album.

[36:03]How do you know?

[36:04]I'm just saying that's what it sounds to me.

[36:06]Like what a wife swapping album would sound like, but it doesn't sound angry.

[36:09]I don't hear anger.

[36:11]It just sounds like people who were like, Hey, let's get together and smoke some dope

[36:14]and trade some stuff.

[36:15]Listen, any of the wife swapping things I've been to, this is.

[36:20]I love when Rob wears his full on honky talk man outfit and brings his guitar to the wife

[36:30]swaps.

[36:31]It's fantastic.

[36:32]Any excuse to play that sound clip.

[36:34]I will do it.

[36:34]I will not hesitate at all.

[36:36]Should we get into this album?

[36:37]I'm telling you, this album is so good.

[36:40]I thought it was so.

[36:42]It's like your greatest hits.

[36:43]It really is.

[36:43]And the great thing is, is it's like 40 minutes long.

[36:46]I could listen to this album like three times before work even started.

[36:49]I listened to it.

[36:49]It's only 40 minutes.

[36:50]There were several times I forgot.

[36:52]I was listening to music when listening to this album.

[36:54]It was like watching Wesley Johnson play basketball.

[36:56]And the thing is, is that I would just hold on, hold on, hold on.

[37:00]I guarantee in the history of the world, Wesley Johnson, whatever you just said has never come

[37:07]up in a pot.

[37:08]Like this is the first time he's ever come up on a ball.

[37:10]That is true.

[37:11]That's what I was going to go.

[37:12]Can't be the first time.

[37:13]He's a very talented basketball player.

[37:16]Oh, and he has all of the tools.

[37:18]Where is he?

[37:19]Where do you go to college?

[37:19]This is Sarah.

[37:20]His guy, he went to Iowa state first and then Syracuse.

[37:23]And then he was drafted by the Timberwolves.

[37:25]What?

[37:25]Number four overall ahead of Syracuse guy.

[37:27]And he's a very talented guy.

[37:29]He's got all of the tools.

[37:30]I heard that lighting guy has a big Wesley Johnson.

[37:33]And that's the running bit of the week.

[37:38]Oh, this album ends up on like a, you know, top 50 lists of like top albums for audio

[37:43]files a lot because people really respect the sound of the album.

[37:46]And I think I do too.

[37:47]I don't know that I have a good enough.

[37:49]Yeah.

[37:50]I just listened to it.

[37:50]My phone, who cares?

[37:51]Sound system to hear it.

[37:53]Right.

[37:53]I mean, but I don't, I don't know if I, you know, get that, but there are times when I'm

[37:56]listening where I like my mind goes elsewhere and I forget that I'm listening to music,

[38:00]but we'll, you know, talk about that as it goes.

[38:02]But I think they were using the best tools available.

[38:06]And then sometimes it just kind of like, yeah, you're listening to music.

[38:09]What are you listening to?

[38:10]What, what are you, what do you, how do you forget that you're listening to music?

[38:13]Like, do you just go, whatever else is going on in my head?

[38:15]I'm thinking about the rest of the world, you know, who's in my house?

[38:18]Who are these people?

[38:19]Oh, that's right.

[38:19]It's a band I'm listening to.

[38:20]I only have those pumpkin spice lattes I get to, yeah.

[38:23]That's like me.

[38:26]You forget you're listening to music.

[38:28]I forget that milk gives me unbelievable bowel problems.

[38:32]It's the same thing.

[38:33]It's not a big deal.

[38:34]Robin is calling that.

[38:35]I think there are, I mean, I do, I liked this album more than I expected.

[38:38]I think there's great tunes on here, but definitely there are times where I'm just like, you guys

[38:41]lost me.

[38:42]Oh, let's get into it.

[38:44]This is a phenomenal starting, starting song.

[38:47]Let's get to secondhand news, Rob.

[38:48]Bangs right away.

[38:49]Go ahead.

[38:49]All right.

[38:50]So let's get into it.

[38:50]Let's get into the first album.

[38:52]I got a long set.

[38:53]All right.

[38:53]I love it.

[38:54]I got to cube your town.

[38:57]All right.

[38:57]I'm only going to play that two more times today.

[38:59]And it has nothing to do with what we're talking about.

[39:01]It's just on the board.

[39:02]Do I need to take me, that picture of me with the Honky Tonk Man suit on off my Bumble profile

[39:08]or not?

[39:08]No, that should be front and center.

[39:09]Honky Tonk Man is number four on the list, actually, after Machu Picchu.

[39:12]And you started that from jump, right?

[39:16]I mean, that was the start of the song.

[39:17]That just kicks off right away.

[39:19]That's awesome.

[39:20]I'm not going to lie.

[39:20]Russell told me four seconds in, so blame Russell.

[39:22]Okay.

[39:22]I don't want to hear it from the beginning.

[39:24]No, but I think that's the interesting thing about it, is that from the beginning, they

[39:29]kind of let it surprise you a little bit.

[39:31]So that's secondhand news.

[39:34]That's a song written by Lindsey Buckingham, again, about Stevie Nicks, right when they

[39:38]broke up.

[39:38]Fake news.

[39:39]And then she has to also sing on the song.

[39:41]And she said a lot of these times, like, yeah, I have to sing these songs over and over.

[39:44]And he's basically saying, like, you're talking up, you're shacking up with anyone.

[39:47]She goes, he knew that wasn't true.

[39:49]It was just a nasty thing to say.

[39:50]And I had to sing it over and over and over.

[39:53]It could be a nightmare.

[39:54]Could you imagine, like, your whole life, you go on these concerts, and you have to

[39:57]perform these songs where you're singing about the person who is standing 10 feet from you?

[40:01]I couldn't imagine working with somebody and, like, trying to create art with somebody,

[40:06]and then just constantly, like, saying bad things about them and making fun of them.

[40:10]It's disgusting.

[40:11]Matt and Aaron and I do it pretty well on our separate text chain about you, Rob.

[40:16]It's not that bad.

[40:17]Oh, no.

[40:18]It goes over pretty easily, actually.

[40:20]The second text chain turns into a second podcast.

[40:22]Nobody knows how to edit it.

[40:24]All right.

[40:25]That part is true.

[40:28]Matt and Aaron, do not bring up that second podcast.

[40:29]Do not bring that up right now.

[40:31]Rosie, do not tell Rob your skills.

[40:34]The Wesleyan better than he is.

[40:35]The Wesleyans did it better.

[40:36]Oh, yeah.

[40:37]Wesley Johnson did it better.

[40:39]The opening line to that song is, I know that there's nothing to say.

[40:43]Someone has taken my place.

[40:45]I mean, it's just, and it sums up this album perfectly, what it's about, what the thing is.

[40:48]And then it's also, they did this thing.

[40:50]You hear the voices during the guitar solo where they're like, bop, bop, bop, bop.

[40:53]And it's where they're using their voice as a bass line.

[40:56]And you'll hear that over and over where they're using kind of different instruments to make different sounds on the album.

[41:00]I just think it's so good.

[41:01]Yeah, that's awesome.

[41:03]Dreams, number two, written by Stevie Nicks, sung by Stevie Nicks.

[41:07]Maybe the most popular song, right, out of the whole album?

[41:14]This did make it to number one on the Billboard.

[41:16]It made it to number one on the Billboard hits.

[41:18]This is their highest charting single.

[41:20]They've ever had.

[41:21]Obviously, it got to number one.

[41:22]But this was the second single they released off this album.

[41:27]This was not the first single.

[41:28]So this is another time where they made a bit of a mistake.

[41:30]Never go out with the best.

[41:31]And it hit number one again, guess what year?

[41:34]2020.

[41:35]Probably one of the most fun years we've had lately.

[41:37]This song hit number one again after that TikTok video.

[41:40]We're talking about TikTok and us not being cool and knowing the music on TikTok.

[41:46]Guess what?

[41:47]We are cool.

[41:48]We do know the music on TikTok.

[41:49]This got back.

[41:50]This got back to number one.

[41:51]And we're doing a freaking podcast about it.

[41:52]Who, who, who, who?

[41:54]Okay.

[41:54]And then when I did the who, who, who with my arms, that made me not cool once again.

[41:58]Popping a wheelie in the zeitgeist.

[41:59]We do have to say, by the way.

[42:01]Did you just do the Arsenio Hall thing from like 1992?

[42:04]And by the way, if you do that, middle schoolers will make fun of you because they have no idea what you're doing.

[42:08]I did not listen to this album on TikTok, but I did listen to it on vinyl.

[42:13]Yes.

[42:14]My mom also had Rumors by Fleetwood Mac on vinyl.

[42:17]So while it may have been popular now, it was also on vinyl.

[42:20]It was also popular 50 years ago whenever my mom bought this record.

[42:23]And like I said, this is, this comes up as like, this is a great test of your sound system.

[42:27]Like if you're a sound nerd, like this is the album to put on.

[42:30]I don't totally get it, but that's what I read on the internet.

[42:32]Look at the cover of that album, Russell.

[42:34]There's a man and a woman.

[42:37]Do you think it's weird that the guy looks like he has two big balls hanging down?

[42:42]That's the only thing I could see when I see that cover.

[42:44]Show that cover to the Zoom.

[42:45]Look at these Wesley Johnson hanging down there.

[42:49]There are definitely two.

[42:50]Two big balls hanging right down from his Wesley and his Johnson.

[42:53]In the business, we call that a Fleetwood Mac.

[42:59]All right.

[43:01]This is Never Going Back Again, written by Lindsey Buckingham, sung by Lindsey Buckingham.

[43:06]And if you notice, there's this very bright sound, right?

[43:09]That is because he, again, this is a post breakup song, but he wrote, they restrung his guitar every 20 minutes when they were recording this song.

[43:17]So listen to it.

[43:20]Are you listening to it?

[43:20]I'm listening.

[43:22]So that's from some movie, and I can't remember which movie it's from.

[43:26]I think this album is sequenced really well, and I think it's a bold move to put this number three because it's not an anthem.

[43:32]It's not a loud in your face track, but I think it's musically one of the most interesting, and it's cool that they put it between dreams and don't stop.

[43:41]So I think it's a, you know, this is a, to me, I don't love this album.

[43:45]We'll talk about that later, but I think it's impeccably sequenced.

[43:47]You dumb shit.

[43:48]I'll tell you, you're right, though.

[43:50]That, by the way, those are two great sentences to put next to each other.

[43:53]Hey, by the way, impeccably, I'm going to have to add that to my profile.

[43:57]That sound guy's got a big impeccably.

[44:00]So here's the thing is that, fuck, oh, yeah, this is a perfectly put together album.

[44:07]I think front to back, like the beginning is a banger.

[44:10]The first song on site two is a banger.

[44:12]It ends with a banger.

[44:13]It's got the bangers in all the right spots where you possibly want it.

[44:16]You start off strong, and you kind of come down.

[44:20]And then you kick back up again.

[44:22]Yeah, no, it's great.

[44:23]I think it's got great flow.

[44:24]Yeah, I love it.

[44:26]All right, next up.

[44:27]Hey, guys, Greenlight, don't stop.

[44:30]This is the first song on here written by Christine McVie.

[44:32]This was the third single, and it got all the way to number three on the charts.

[44:37]And this is about her divorce from the bass player in the band.

[44:39]Think about that.

[44:40]Before we get into the song, like, why does Christine McVie never get, like, the credit?

[44:46]I feel like people only know Fleetwood Mac for Buckingham.

[44:50]And Stevie Nicks.

[44:51]Like, she's saying or put together a lot of these songs, right?

[44:55]Her name's not Fleetwood.

[44:58]Yeah, her name's not Mac, and she's not Stevie Nicks.

[45:01]Aaron, what's your impression of that song?

[45:04]My thing about Don't Stop is it's the reason that I've never liked Fleetwood Mac.

[45:09]And I don't want to get political on the podcast.

[45:14]Because I think it's a good song.

[45:17]I think, I don't understand it.

[45:19]It seems like it's a good song.

[45:20]It seems like it's a good song.

[45:20]It seems like it's a good song.

[45:20]It seems like it's a good song.

[45:20]It seems like it's a good song.

[45:20]I think the vocals are great.

[45:21]One of the things I think about this album is that I don't think that the drums and the

[45:27]vocals ever hit the highs at the same time.

[45:30]So I think the vocals on Don't Stop are great, and I think Fleetwood was just completely

[45:35]mailing in the drums on this one.

[45:37]Can you explain that just a little bit?

[45:38]I don't get, I mean, I kind of get what you're saying, but what does that mean?

[45:41]They don't hit the highs at the same time?

[45:42]I think that Fleetwood's best drumming appears on other tunes.

[45:49]Like, I think he's really good.

[45:50]He's really good on Go Your Own Way, a couple of other tracks, and I think his drum work

[45:56]on Don't Stop is just, like, super boring, and the vocals on Don't Stop are rad, but

[46:05]for me, I just associate Don't Stop with the Clinton campaign, and I don't want to, like,

[46:10]give away my political leanings, but I was the kind of guy who was, like, really into

[46:14]defending Bill Clinton back in the day, and now I realize, like, that's not a good thing.

[46:20]That's not a good look.

[46:20]Like, he's an actual crappy person.

[46:22]What you're referring to, Aaron, is in 1992, Bill Clinton used Fleetwood Mac in this song,

[46:30]Don't Stop, Thinking About Tomorrow, as his kind of campaign song, is what you're saying, right?

[46:35]That's what I'm saying, yeah.

[46:36]And so for me, that's what I associate it with, you know, mentally, emotionally, right?

[46:39]And one thing that was interesting is he started using this song, and Chrissy McVie actually

[46:45]said, hey, enough.

[46:47]I wrote this song.

[46:48]You cannot use it.

[46:50]So eventually, though, they re-recorded this song when Clinton was elected, and so they

[46:56]re-recorded it just for his election, but it made me think, I wonder what the best presidential

[47:03]campaign songs ever are.

[47:06]So I'm going to give you guys a list and see what you think.

[47:08]I'm curious, too.

[47:09]Yeah, I'm definitely curious about this.

[47:10]It's, it's, it's time for another of the best.

[47:20]What I wanted to do is, given that this podcast is coming out on Election Day, I thought it

[47:28]would be appropriate for us to talk about the greatest election campaign songs ever.

[47:33]Wow, it's her Election Day pod.

[47:34]This is great.

[47:35]I think one of my favorites was the other song Bill Clinton used.

[47:38]I don't know if he can play that on a saxophone again one more time.

[47:46]Okay, Russell, be funny.

[47:49]So it's interesting.

[47:51]So I'm actually, I'm really a big, I love going back and reading about presidents.

[47:56]That's one of my big hobbies is reading a biography on every president.

[47:59]So it's interesting that William Harrison actually inspired the most well-known political

[48:04]campaign song ever.

[48:06]This was in 1840, and this was before there were like parades and campaign songs and all

[48:12]this thing.

[48:13]And he started having these songs, and they would play this song, Tip a Canoe in Tyler

[48:18]2, during his campaign.

[48:19]And this was actually a song about this great battle he had won at Tip a Canoe, and then

[48:29]Tyler 2 was referencing his running mate, John Tyler, who eventually became president.

[48:34]And so the interesting thing about Harrison is he actually walked through terrible weather

[48:39]to his inauguration and either caught typhoid fever or pneumonia and ended up dying 31 days

[48:46]into his presidency.

[48:48]So John Tyler became president.

[48:49]So John Tyler became president 31 days in.

[48:51]He is the shortest-serving president of all time, but one of the most famous songs ever

[48:56]about presidential campaigns is Tip a Canoe in Tyler 2.

[48:59]So did you read that autobiography like in a night?

[49:02]Is it like five pages long?

[49:03]It's just like, yeah, he died.

[49:04]And 31 days per day.

[49:08]That would be a real bummer, wouldn't you?

[49:11]You're like, I'm president.

[49:12]I'm dead.

[49:12]Now, well, it's a bummer.

[49:13]So on my other podcast I do called They Might Be Giants Did It Better, we find songs that

[49:19]they might be giants did it better.

[49:19]They Might Be Giants also covered.

[49:20]And believe it or not, a song from 1840 is also a song that They Might Be Giants covered.

[49:25]See if you think They Might Be Giants did it better.

[49:28]Oh, who has heard the great commotion, motion, motion, all the country do?

[49:35]It is the fall of the world.

[49:37]What, I'm in a soccer match?

[49:38]Everybody now.

[49:40]They like Tyler 2.

[49:41]Tyler 2.

[49:42]It's kind of some Nine Inch Nails kind of production there with like the synths and

[49:46]the dark, you know, minor keys.

[49:49]Yeah, They Might Be Giants are the best.

[49:50]Go ahead, Russell.

[49:51]So anyways, presidential campaign songs became a big thing further and further on.

[49:55]But if you jump about 100 years further, we got to go to JFK.

[49:59]1940.

[49:59]Huh?

[50:01]1940 would be 100 years later.

[50:03]I did the math in my head.

[50:04]We'll go to 120 years later.

[50:05]In 1960, when JFK was running, and this is really interesting actually because he actually

[50:12]had his campaign song was done by Frank Sinatra.

[50:14]And I believe that Frank Sinatra and JFK probably had the same kind of.

[50:19]Interests in life, if you will.

[50:21]So, check out this song that, check out this song that Frank Sinatra redid, which was essentially

[50:26]the campaign song for JFK in 1960.

[50:29]Jack, Jack is on the right track, because he's got high hopes, he's got high hopes,

[50:44]1960.

[50:45]Russell, I was going to say they probably had the same bosses.

[50:49]You said some interests, so then we know what we're talking about here.

[50:51]One of them died of old age, one of them died of something else, you know?

[50:56]Yeah.

[50:56]Bill Clinton, when we talk about him using this Fleetwood Mac song, it was kind of a very

[51:01]popular, it was not as popular at the time, but he made it popular again.

[51:05]But I wanted to take you through the three people that he ran against when he ran for

[51:09]reelection and tell you what they were using as campaign songs.

[51:13]So the first one was George H.W. Bush.

[51:17]And here's what he was using for his campaign song.

[51:19]And I bet you can see why Bill Clinton maybe won the election, "Woody Guthrie, this is your

[51:24]land."

[51:25]This is, I mean, Russell, you can't play this and ask me not to get political.

[51:33]Go for it.

[51:34]A member of the Bush family was using "this land is your land."

[51:37]Yes.

[51:38]Like, irony doesn't even begin to touch what we're talking about here.

[51:42]Point is though, I think-

[51:43]A lot of people would say they're patriots.

[51:44]I don't know.

[51:45]Without getting into politics, I think you could say like, this song is so square compared

[51:48]to this Fleetwood Mac song, correct?

[51:51]I'll agree for the sake of the list.

[51:55]This song is one of the great songs I think ever written about equality and belonging

[51:59]in America.

[52:00]Yeah.

[52:01]Listen, when he's talking about this land is your land, he's talking about the oil underneath

[52:03]Kuwait.

[52:04]And he's like, this land is actually my land.

[52:06]So sorry about that.

[52:07]So Clinton defeats Bush, but also, do you know who else he defeated in that year?

[52:11]'92.

[52:12]Let me finish.

[52:13]Let me finish.

[52:14]Ross Perot?

[52:15]H. Ross Perot was a third party candidate and he was one of the first third party candidates.

[52:18]He was one of the first third party candidates to be on the ballot in all 50 states in '92.

[52:23]And Perot had this really crazy campaign where he would buy these infomercials and essentially

[52:29]do these weird commercials about the economy.

[52:33]But at one of his campaign rallies, he essentially said, "Hey, this campaign is kind of crazy,

[52:38]and I'm going to introduce you to my new campaign song, 'It's Crazy' by Patsy Cline."

[52:45]Why would this be a campaign song?

[52:46]Now, this would make a good song.

[52:48]A soccer song?

[52:49]I just don't know about a campaign song.

[52:51]I mean, listen to this.

[52:52]I would sing this as a soccer song.

[52:54]I agree with you, Rob.

[52:55]I mean, it fits in with everything else the MLS is doing, so.

[53:00]Also, wasn't this written by Willie Nelson?

[53:03]It was redone by Willie Nelson, but he had the Patsy Cline version played, and he said

[53:08]that at one point, there are millions of crazy people in the country, and I'll say tomorrow,

[53:13]it's going to be crazy at the polls, and it was not crazy in H. Ross Perot's favor.

[53:18]I can't believe that a president playing and saying, "Oh, here's my theme song," and it's

[53:21]crazy, and people are like, "Man, I don't know if I'm going to vote for this person."

[53:24]That does not seem good.

[53:25]Well, there's only one more on the list, and so we've got to-

[53:28]You should have workshopped it.

[53:29]We've got to jump forward four years, because he had beaten Bush, he had beaten Perot, and

[53:33]he was running for re-election.

[53:34]At the time, do you guys remember who he was running against?

[53:37]Bob Dole.

[53:38]Bob Dole.

[53:39]So, Bob Dole actually co-opted a song by Sam and Dave called "Soul Man," if you guys

[53:46]remember this.

[53:47]Whoa, what?

[53:48]He changed the lyrics from "Soul Man" to "Dole Man," which feels bizarre.

[53:53]No.

[53:54]"I'm a soul man."

[53:55]"Dole Man."

[53:56]How much did they have to pay to do that?

[54:00]Yeah, and did Sam and Dave give their blessing?

[54:02]Just Sam.

[54:03]So, at the time, Sam Moore was a member of the rock duo Sam and Dave, and he adapted

[54:08]this song, and I actually could not find the new version of the song with the Bob Dole,

[54:13]because it's been erased from the internet, because they got sued for it, but the song

[54:18]was originally written by David Porter and Isaac Hayes, which I thought was super interesting,

[54:24]and it made it to number two on the Billboard Top 100 for three weeks in 1967.

[54:29]So, eventually, this guy comes, one of the singers changes the lyrics, and then he gets

[54:35]sued for it, of course, because he didn't own the rights for it.

[54:39]The record company owned the rights for it, but eventually, they stopped playing it, but

[54:43]the coolest thing about it is, an article at the time said, "Connecting Bob Dole to

[54:48]Soul Man is like connecting the mass murderer, Jeffrey Dahmer, to the song, Feelings."

[54:53]I've always been jealous of that band name, just Sam and Dave.

[54:59]Can you imagine being in the room when they pick that name?

[55:01]Just like, "Hey, what should we call ourselves, Sam?

[55:03]I don't know Dave."

[55:04]What did you call your famous radio show in college?

[55:09]Oh, the Sam and Dave show, of course.

[55:11]I don't know.

[55:12]That's totally different.

[55:13]I think Bob Dole does this, and Bob Dole does that.

[55:16]It's not something Bob Dole does.

[55:17]It's not something Bob Dole does.

[55:18]It's not something Bob Dole's ever going to do.

[55:19]It's not something Bob Dole will ever do.

[55:23]By the way, I just edited out another five minutes of Russell's Bob Dole impression,

[55:26]so that went on for quite some time.

[55:27]It was very good.

[55:28]It went on for a long time.

[55:30]You can find that on The Best Of.

[55:32]All right.

[55:33]You can go your own way.

[55:38]Fifth song in the album, written and sung by Lindsey Buckingham.

[55:44]Rosie, could you get back in political there?

[55:48]Yeah, thanks.

[55:49]I did my best.

[55:50]I did my best.

[55:51]This is the first single off the album, and again, think about you have to sing a song

[55:58]with your band that you just broke up with this guy, and the lyrics are, "Loving you

[56:03]isn't the right thing to do."

[56:06]But this, I think, is what you're talking about, Rosie, with the drums, right?

[56:09]The drums here were inspired by the Rolling Stones' Street Fighting Man.

[56:12]Yeah.

[56:13]I like his work here a lot better than on Don't Stop.

[56:17]It's much more interesting.

[56:19]You're totally right.

[56:20]Can I ask a question?

[56:21]No.

[56:22]I mean, this kind of comes back to, who did we have the number three album, Blue?

[56:26]Joni Mitchell.

[56:27]Joni Mitchell, right?

[56:28]Like, she's got to sing about her giving up her child.

[56:29]Feelings.

[56:30]Feelings.

[56:31]Feelings.

[56:32]Feelings, man.

[56:33]They're called feelings.

[56:34]I know.

[56:35]But like, this one still.

[56:36]Like, how much money is Stevie Nicks getting paid here, and all these people getting paid,

[56:43]to continually sing this stuff?

[56:44]When do you just give them the big middle finger and say, "Screw you.

[56:45]Screw you.

[56:46]Screw you guys.

[56:47]I'm gone."

[56:48]I would argue that this is all she got paid is for singing these songs like this.

[56:52]Yeah.

[56:53]That's why they're so good is that they're about real stuff.

[56:54]I know.

[56:55]But like, they're phenomenal songs.

[56:56]But like, you know, we keep talking about like, "Oh, you got to keep talking about this."

[57:00]But like, I mean, it made their life, right?

[57:03]I mean, it made Fleetwood Mac.

[57:04]It made Stevie Nicks went on to a phenomenal solo career and all this stuff.

[57:08]And I mean, it's not that bad, right?

[57:10]I mean.

[57:11]Yeah.

[57:12]But if you don't sing about stuff like this, you get songs like, "I want candy."

[57:14]Right.

[57:15]Because you're going to get like, you're just going to get nothing songs.

[57:17]I mean, I get.

[57:18]Now, I couldn't possibly imagine going into some art form and talking about something

[57:22]personal like, "Oh, I don't know, lactose intolerant or penis size or whatever."

[57:26]But I think that if you're truly a brave artist, it's probably what you do because you know

[57:31]this is what you're going to be famous for.

[57:33]Yeah.

[57:34]Oh, yeah.

[57:35]Totally.

[57:36]Or maybe you get yourself locked into a certain lifestyle.

[57:37]You know, you bought a Cadillac.

[57:38]You bought a couple of houses.

[57:39]All of a sudden, you're out there.

[57:40]Yeah.

[57:41]You're out there on tour.

[57:42]You got to sing about.

[57:43]Right.

[57:44]And you just keep your personal life out there because you leverage yourself to a point

[57:48]where you got to do it.

[57:49]Like, who knows?

[57:50]Right?

[57:51]You know what?

[57:52]You guys are right.

[57:53]I am going to keep drinking milk.

[57:54]All right.

[57:55]Songbird.

[57:56]All right.

[57:57]Now, this song is very boring to me, but I will say it's one of the few songs they recorded

[58:02]in an auditorium and they set up 15 microphones around the auditorium to get the sound, which

[58:06]I think what Rosie's talking about, yeah, were these guys all taking nitrous and standing

[58:10]on waterbed floors from the article that Aaron sent us?

[58:13]Were they engineering geniuses?

[58:15]Also, yes.

[58:16]Agree.

[58:17]I have some thoughts about this song, and I know I did not know until we started listening

[58:24]to this album that this was a Fleetwood Mac song because I know it from two other occasions.

[58:30]And I think we all understand that when a song is reworked, yeah, when a song is reworked

[58:36]by someone, it can either be better than the original or maybe the same as the original.

[58:42]Maybe the same as the original or far worse than the original.

[58:45]And I know of two other versions of this song.

[58:47]That's so brave for you to say that, Aaron.

[58:49]One of which is the Ava Cassidy version, which I think is far better than David Cassidy.

[58:58]I love David Cassidy for the Partridge family.

[59:01]I can't wait.

[59:02]He was awesome in Germany.

[59:04]I heard like he crushed it in Germany.

[59:06]The Ava Cassidy version far outpasses.

[59:08]I appreciate you bringing up Yasmin Bleeth on this podcast.

[59:09]Fleetwood Mac.

[59:10]Yeah.

[59:11]She was smoking hot.

[59:12]Can you imagine the rest of Aaron's life where he's just like, okay, time to go do the podcast.

[59:17]This is the most enjoyable thing I'm going to go do now is where I do some research.

[59:20]I find out some cool stuff.

[59:21]I have a lot of knowledge and I'm going to let three fucking morons interrupt me while

[59:24]I'm actually doing my one thing I want to talk about in this episode.

[59:28]Talk about Baywatch.

[59:29]It's great.

[59:30]I think Ava Cassidy is a great voice.

[59:33]I think we should hear it.

[59:34]Let's hear it.

[59:35]Let's hear her because I think her version is far better than David Cassidy.

[59:40]I think she really rips it.

[59:41]When is this from?

[59:42]This is way better than that song.

[59:43]Is this like '80s, '90s?

[59:44]When is this?

[59:45]'90s, I think.

[59:46]I would say '90s.

[59:47]Okay.

[59:48]Guys, I just looked at the date.

[59:49]It's from 2022.

[59:50]It's from the future.

[59:51]This is a Terminator situation.

[59:52]Generally, what I would knock out to at soccer games, this is about it.

[59:53]She's, I think, one of the great voices.

[59:54]Ava Cassidy did it way better.

[59:55]Yeah.

[59:56]I got to say, but I have to be honest, I have to say who did it way worse, and that

[60:09]was me.

[60:10]No.

[60:11]At our buddy's wedding.

[60:12]No.

[60:13]We know him by his-

[60:14]You sing this song at our friend's wedding?

[60:15]We know, yes.

[60:16]We know him by his sleeveless T-shirts and big muscles.

[60:17]I have to be honest.

[60:18]He said to me, "Rosie, I don't care what you sing at my wedding.

[60:19]I just want you to sing a song that you can dominate."

[60:20]I 100% did not dominate this song at MedFaul's wedding.

[60:21]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:22]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:23]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:24]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:25]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:26]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:27]I need to issue a song that I can dominate.

[60:39]I need to issue a Beck Did It Better apology for my performance all those years

[60:43]ago.

[60:44]Oh, this is great.

[60:45]And now an apology from Beck Did It Better.

[60:46]This is the greatest moment of the podcast right here.

[60:47]This is great.

[60:48]We're peaking.

[60:49]We're peaking, guys.

[60:50]Beck Does It Better podcast.

[60:51]I did this one with another friend of ours on guitar, and it was not good, so that's

[61:00]the three versions of Songbird.

[61:01]How did you pick this?

[61:02]I don't know.

[61:03]I don't know how it came to be, but I didn't do well with it at all.

[61:07]Fortunately, there's no-

[61:08]This is why I never got to sing.

[61:09]I don't need Aaron showing up at my wedding, because he's the only person I know with any

[61:12]musical talent, and he shows up, and a week later, he's like, "Yeah, Songbird by Fleetwood

[61:18]Mac.

[61:19]I was terrible at that.

[61:20]I apologize."

[61:21]By the way, Russell, when you do get married, we are actually going to show up and do at

[61:24]your ceremony a live episode, and I think we're all really excited about that.

[61:28]That's going to be very exciting.

[61:30]That's going to be very exciting.

[61:31]Free pumpkin spice lattes for everyone.

[61:33]Hey, what is this?

[61:34]An altar?

[61:35]How about altered balls?

[61:37]Ooh.

[61:38]Okay, nice.

[61:39]I'll work on it, okay?

[61:40]Altered balls.

[61:41]I think that's actually pretty good.

[61:42]But actually, Aaron actually did sing at my wedding.

[61:43]I did.

[61:44]He did a great job, and I wanted to play a clip of that real quick.

[61:45]Oh, my God.

[61:46]I think it's really good.

[61:47]But for real, Aaron did sing at our wedding, and Jenny thought he did a bad job.

[61:48]I don't know.

[61:49]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:50]You know, I wasn't here to talk about that.

[61:51]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:52]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:53]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:54]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:55]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:56]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:57]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:58]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[61:59]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[62:00]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[62:01]I don't think that's nice of her to say.

[62:02]You know, he wasn't here to defend himself when she went off about it for five minutes.

[62:03]Aaron, do you get paid when you sing at weddings, or how does that work?

[62:04]I think that, yeah, I typically did.

[62:05]I mean, it's been about 10 or 12 years now since I sang at anyone who was not a family

[62:06]member's wedding.

[62:07]You didn't sing at my wedding.

[62:08]I don't know.

[62:09]I didn't sing.

[62:10]My favorite part of my wedding was where Aaron would sing at my wedding.

[62:11]I don't know.

[62:12]I didn't sing at my wedding.

[62:13]I don't know.

[62:14]I didn't sing.

[62:15]My favorite part of my wedding was where Aaron was right next to me in the limousine in a

[62:16]comfy seat with lots of space, and we had all these drinks, and we just had so much

[62:17]fun.

[62:18]Oh, yes.

[62:19]All right.

[62:20]So that is the end of song.

[62:21]That is the end of side one, and now we're on side two, and we've got The Chainsmokers.

[62:22]All right.

[62:23]So that is the end of side two, and we've got The Chainsmokers.

[62:24]All right.
