[00:09]order and led us to making this podcast we are far from experts we promise to do almost no research

[00:31]hey it's great that we're doing a uh artist that's in the news let me just check the news

[00:59]it's just so easy and then with your great voice it's you realize it's easy maybe just to sing as

[01:19]when i see i had auditions that we haven't grown bigger this is the last of me i would be famous

[01:25]now because it's year three oh i kind of thought the show would be bigger but we ain't doing much

[01:34]to grow quicker now i'm starting to reconsider or maybe we should just post it twitter if you

[01:41]look our downloads are down if our listeners live together wouldn't be a town i look at the

[01:46]numbers and i start to frown i assumed we would be world renowned started the show we didn't know

[01:52]how it'd go we started off slow we began to grow within six months we had 100 downloads now it's

[01:59]been about three years we have hit my biggest fear i think the show was stuck in second gear

[02:06]i told me the stage was getting cheers but when i look around it's just us here hoping all our

[02:12]fans would tell all their friends we'd blow up like a telephoto lens

[02:16]three years later and it's all the same turns out we need to work harder if we want that fame

[02:21]i thought we would be featured in vulture i don't know if this can get rough maybe we should wait

[02:28]till we get discovered because now our biggest fan is only aaron's brother i kind of thought the

[02:33]show would be bigger but we ain't doing much to grow quicker yeah post this instagram and then

[02:39]twitter another three years while i might be bitter right now our downloads are down all this

[02:46]we want to frown but more listeners might be inbound we just have to convince matt to stick around

[02:53]warning i i did get a phone call from that i don't think man has ever called me before and i thought

[06:02]like put my head down and say like well we have to do kanye west this week obviously kanye is in

[06:07]the news recently for basically i mean here's the question right is kanye an asshole is he having a

[06:15]total mental break or both and what and how do we deal with this right like how do we deal with

[06:21]somebody who is basically uh you can't touch him with a 10-foot pole yet we are bound by our oath

[06:28]to this list i mean what honestly what do we do with this guys rob the last time i touched

[06:33]something with a 10-foot pole i wasn't supposed to i got a rash and it hasn't gone away yet

[06:38]i mean we've we've we've done other artists of questionable

[06:44]repute it's just that this one is in the here and now i think we have to discuss the album because

[06:49]we've discussed other albums and no one on this podcast is other than andy perhaps is uh supporting

[06:56]the things that kanye is saying but i mean here's the thing too is it's like specifically why we

[07:01]brought him on right he was supportive no the reason i'm here is because as you're as you're

[07:07]one listener i hereby say i will not cancel you for doing this so there we go good yeah well that's

[07:13]one thing we aren't worried about being canceled we're not nearly big enough to do that yeah i'm

[07:16]not trying to send shots andy's way we just we've had a lot of discussions about kanye over the years

[07:20]and we're going to continue to discuss them and this is i mean we got to talk about it and and i

[07:25]think that i think that just us talking i mean obviously you know kanye's come out and basically

[07:28]as as gone on some weird anti-semitic twist kind of kind of out of nowhere recently and i just don't

[07:36]i mean i i really don't understand i basically i think this is the end of kanye right or maybe we

[07:42]look back in three years i mean could he possibly release an album so good that he can recover from

[07:45]this i don't think so right like this this at this point could he possibly release an album that's

[07:49]good at all but oh it's true you might be the only one who listened to donda right did you actually

[07:57]listen yeah so i mean and aaron was nice enough to invite me on and you guys are gracious enough

[08:02]to have me kanye is a really important artist to me um i love this album this album itself is really

[08:07]important to me i think it's a perfect time to do it apart from all the the shit that's going on

[08:11]with him um it's a good time like i think excuse me we don't use foul language on this if you could

[08:16]keep it clean as an artist he really never had you to have a a public persona at all outside of

[08:24]his music and uh and his fashion and so i think you know this album particularly is a really good

[08:29]representation of what he was and what he could have been and so i think it's a great time to

[08:32]talk about it all right let's get right into the voicemail this is gonna be awkward if it was from

[09:55]a halloween hero okay and it's not a spooky song hero or halloween hero last time we had some

[10:01]confusion uh no this is a halloween hero spooky songs that was sold two weeks ago and again andy's

[10:05]but here's the thing i'll hear that episode in a month looking forward to it

[10:10]pumpkins at the nearby bodega in new york city in manhattan are 25 dollars what 25 dollars now

[10:23]you just went up to my you went up to my rolling gun i've got two kids okay so now you're i know

[10:28]what you're thinking couldn't they each carve one side of the pumpkin and you just get two faces on

[10:33]one pumpkin that works right like that's good parenting the answer is no i found a store in

[10:38]manhattan that sells pumpkins for five dollars and 88 cents but it was way over on the west side

[10:44]so guess what i did about a week ago i got two pumpkins and two shopping bags and carry them

[10:50]on a bus and a subway so i'm the guy with the pumpkins in the train heading home i was a hero

[10:56]to my kids they took them out they carved them and you know what i saw this morning guess what

[11:01]one of the pumpkins was doing what's that it was leaking juice all over the counter we and i put my

[11:08]candle in you know today i was like trying to light it and it felt fuzzy inside and i was like

[11:13]i don't know a lot about pumpkins pumpkins should not feel fuzzy inside and sure enough it was

[11:19]totally mold and it was deep it was like crumbling had to throw them away before halloween so we had

[11:24]to get for buying a five dollar pumpkin you started smashing those pumpkins but not smashing those

[11:30]pumpkins like american pie style smashing with a hammer oh erin erin did you did you use a blender

[11:36]to get rid of all the inner guts did you use your no i use your blender listen guys i'm gonna tell

[11:43]you right now if you're not buying the pumpkin carving kits at the store for eight dollars with

[11:47]a little saw and the scoop you're a fucking loser okay spend that money get the pumpkin carving kit

[11:52]oh no i'd love to give my kids a huge butcher knife to carve those pumpkins you fucking idiots

[11:56]i know that's what you're about to say man do you have pumpkins going on at the house do you

[12:01]jack-o'-lanterns what's your we're gonna do it tomorrow because i too know it's very warm here in

[12:06]minneapolis right now that those things you know either the squirrels are gonna get them i mean you

[12:11]don't leave them inside why would you leave them inside well i was gonna look at them inside maybe

[12:15]you're supposed to be out there for your neighbors to see right yeah so why would you leave them

[12:18]inside well but everybody knows that after a day or two those things start to curl around the edges

[12:24]you know or you just get a little bit mealy yeah stuff so yeah you can't can't carve pumpkins too

[12:29]early yeah the pumpkins did look and smell like my crotch after about five days like just kind of

[12:34]like the wrong color kind of drooping down fuzzy wouldn't happen if you would have paid for the 50

[12:41]dollars you've been good gray rob when you're when you're working the inner guts do you typically

[12:45]just go straight in and out or do you kind of move around a little bit and kind of get around

[12:49]the outer well i gotta say when i'm rearranging those pumpkin guts i usually have some sort of

[12:56]tool i'm not doing it with my hands i'm in there you know with a spoon okay i'm in there cleaning

[13:01]it out uh that's what i'm doing is this what it's like little rosie when you're listening to it like

[13:08]you're like god these guys missed a perfect opportunity for a joke there god they just

[13:12]rob's living leaving softballs and these guys these clowns just don't know what they're doing

[13:17]rob wasn't even ready to be teed up for that was he's like wait wait what what what i gotta make

[13:21]a joke honestly guys i think you guys are gonna love andy and i's new podcast that we have coming

[13:55]we didn't drive out to the brentwood we went to the oakland one and i was like i gotta get some

[14:01]you you just spent 20 today you've been going to this fucking pumpkin patch like twice a week for

[14:06]the last two weeks i know you have a different pumpkin patch today a little one that didn't

[14:11]have the bounce house and i was really stoked because they got some wild pumpkins man like

[14:15]really cool so we got three pumpkins no what makes it wild shut up yeah shut up what's a wild

[14:20]pumpkin they're all wild maybe these things this thing is like we got one that's one's more of a

[14:24]gourd it's like green kind of looks like it has a gooseneck on it and then we get this other one

[14:29]that's like red with like orange looks like it's got brain

[14:31]they got like totally crazy pumpkins but we bought three pumpkins and a um like a spooky

[14:38]doorknob that my son wanted and i got up to the front ninety dollars and i was like okay ninety

[14:43]dollars i'd rather buy a rolling stones t-shirt when i couldn't say no aaron don't even think

[14:49]about explaining what a spooky doorknob is we all know what it is okay you don't have to explain a

[14:54]spooky doorknob ninety dollars at a pumpkin patch yes and i couldn't and like yeah and then i

[14:59]couldn't i'll plus the 10 bucks i spent to go through the pumpkin patch and then i couldn't

[15:01]go through the haunted house by myself because it was too spooky by yourself yeah it was too spooky

[15:06]for wallace so i had to go by myself would you like leave him out with some strangers or what

[15:10]would you do hey sit on the front step of this haunted house while dad walks through it what do

[15:15]you mean you left him outside with anna with his mom you know somebody had to go through and i could

[15:19]tell i think i could do a haunted house where you just put a kid in the trunk of the car and i drive

[15:23]around for like two minutes that's pretty spooky right like that's the ultimate haunted house

[15:27]i think now aaron i was just kidding i do want to hear about the

[15:31]doorknob what the fuck are you talking about i thought rob and i are going to talk about the

[15:35]spooky doorknob on our podcast so don't go in there well it wasn't it was a move that my wife

[15:41]wanted to show me tonight and i said no i had the podcast i can't do the spooky doorknob quit

[15:46]ringing that doorbell down there it was just like you know it was like i have an audi it's like every

[15:51]other place where they they got a gift shop when you go in and out so you can't get out without

[15:55]going through the gift shop and so my son wanted a thing and it's like a little you know tchotchke

[16:01]door and you press the button and it makes a spooky sound and like an eyeball comes out that's

[16:06]it so yeah you guys are all dads i think andy's a new dad your son is pretty young so you probably

[16:12]haven't gone through this yet but are all three of you are all you guys do you give in when your

[16:15]kids ask for like one thing do you hold the line and say no like what's your style when it comes

[16:20]to your kids ask you for something at a store like that i will remind you i spent 75 on nail

[16:26]polish okay i'm just gonna tell you that right now so obviously i'm giving into whatever my kids want

[16:31]over matt so we go to like you know like menards and target and luns and stuff on the regular right

[16:38]and so if it's a regular stop then no you know we might have some time where they buy something

[16:46]at target or something like that but if we do like a special trip like to the pumpkin pumpkin patch

[16:50]or you know we're going to valley fair or we're doing something with grandma grandpa you know

[16:56]then i tend to be a little bit uh just a little bit looser with letting them just buy whatever

[17:01]they want so now if you gotta buy your kids whatever they want just spoil the hell out of

[17:09]them who cares it's it's i mean listen i i was gonna say i was bringing my kids to a pumpkin

[17:13]patch the other day and i went in and all i heard was i just wanna sniff some glue i just and you

[17:22]know what i was at i was at a punk a pumpkin patch a pumpkin punking patch punking okay let me get a

[18:10]back on here well you know listen i'm just i'm just happy that a white man could provide some

[18:17]representation on a podcast it's about time so we'll move on and i'll uh i'll provide some

[18:23]commentary later what well what about this what you you were mentioning we were talking before

[18:27]we started so you're a new dad three month old i'm kind of curious like what's been the experience

[18:31]like being a new dad what's been your most recent experience as a new dad that's been in you know

[18:35]there hasn't been much one thing they they tell us you know some people told us before is that you

[18:39]know the there's kind of that what they call the fourth trimester which is a few months after the

[18:44]kid's born he's three months old now and so he's uh he's starting to show a little personality he's

[18:48]a wonderful little guy um but he doesn't do a whole lot you know so uh the the best part about

[18:52]it is that we had him in july and so right now is the you know we're in the middle of football

[18:58]season and so football saturday football sunday i love watching college football and i love watching

[19:01]family time i love watching nfl um it's a great time to sit in front of the tv with my son on my

[19:07]lap and you know watch all the all the football i possibly can because as i'm told pretty soon

[19:12]in fact next football season he'll be running around i'll be chasing him not watching a ton

[19:16]of football so i'm enjoying that so far surrounded by spooky doorknobs yeah you gotta take advantage

[19:22]of that right now while you can rob rob i'm gonna i'm gonna get some phone calls for us here okay

[19:27]let's hear it just get ready uh little rosie so

[19:31]question for you when the little guy's got to get up in the middle of the night

[19:34]do you both get up or is just one of you getting up no we're uh because there is a right answer

[19:39]here there is are we both getting up at the same time or are we switching off

[20:01]i i hate to be this guy but and i know it's going to get worse or it's going to get worse at some

[20:05]point but like last night for example he slept from eight o'clock p.m until seven o'clock a.m and

[20:09]that's fairly he'll usually get up once but then be back in bed in like three minutes so we're very

[20:14]fortunate uh we've been very lucky we have not had a lot of trials and tribulations uh overnight

[20:19]with him since the first couple of weeks and so i'm sure that will maintain throughout his life

[20:24]and it won't be hard at all so i don't know four months four months you mark our words four months

[20:31]out i cannot believe how fast aaron ate that whole bottle of pills he heard you say that kid sleeps

[20:36]well and he just put those pills right down and he has a big smile on his face i mean it's great

[20:40]now i want to tell you about a game we played in our friend group anytime somebody had a kid and

[20:44]that is how fast you get to have sex with your wife again i think it's really fun just to pressure

[20:49]it and you say please right away you know i'm out of the game so it usually takes 30 45 seconds

[20:54]that's about it no no but you gotta go like hey you have a baby like you get to come home from the

[20:59]hospital next day you're like okay it's time for

[21:00]you know i'm the mayor of pound town let's do this well you didn't have the baby that's a little treat

[21:04]you get you get this you get to see a lot of stuff i edited out of the podcast rob you're a science

[21:09]teacher is there like a medically prescribed time you're supposed to wait or not there's traffic on

[21:14]the freeway you might as well you know hop on the on-ramp that's what i say you know what i mean like

[22:59]something about this i saw a great t-shirt on the internet and i had to i just had to send this t-shirt

[23:05]to a friend of mine just to see what he what he thought of it so rob do you have you ever had an

[23:10]experience like that rob so first of all i've also done this with matt where i was absolutely hammered

[23:16]in las vegas and we were watching a show on vh1 like a pop-up video show and a guy was wearing a

[23:20]shirt that was the mastercard logo so you know how it says mastercard priceless this one instead of

[23:26]mastercard it just says sex with me and that says priceless i was with man hotel room i go god damn

[23:33]that shirt's funny i ordered it right then and there i have worn it once to walk the dog and i

[23:38]was humiliated never worn it again so now i get a text this week from aaron novelty shirts never fit

[23:43]right you know those are never going to work low quality you get them and it's like oh you know

[23:48]when it's a gildan shirt too you see that gildan and you know that's gonna be thick you know it's

[23:53]gonna be heavy the shoulders are gonna be somehow both too big and too narrow like there's something

[23:58]weird going on you gotta wear it like you gotta wear them like six or seven times before you put

[24:02]it in the washer because you know that it's gonna shrink and the thing is like especially

[24:06]for fat guys it's like well this shirt is too big up top yet it's too short on the bottom like it

[24:10]sticks up you can see the bottom of my belly button you can see my spooky doorknob sticking

[24:15]out like you you got to be careful with these things and so the shirt that aaron sent me and

[24:20]i immediately bought it

[24:23]just says i make the thx noise when i come so not only did i buy that shirt i bought it and then i

[24:32]got an email saying congratulations on buying this shirt for 35 dollars 35 dollars my wife just put

[24:39]me aside this morning and said listen we are having some money issues i was like well don't

[24:42]worry i got something that's really gonna make you mad you could have bought like two gourds

[24:46]from aaron's pumpkin patch for that much did you say that aaron sent that to you i did yeah so i

[24:52]sent that to a couple of my friends that aaron did not send that to me i brought that independently

[24:58]you guys are sending the thx noise when you come shirts to all your friends

[25:04]i'm making a vinegar face on this place by the way you guys looked me in the eye so i think we have

[25:22]some sort of bond rob do you think when it happens does it like does the sound start up and then it

[25:26]cuts off because you aren't quite ready yet or not or does it like no it's like it's kind of like a

[25:31]movie in reverse where it takes like 90 minutes to actually hear that sound that's the problem yeah

[25:41]i've always been the guy that when guys joke about how fast they come i'm like

[49:19]his four

[49:20]education themed uh albums that he put

[49:23]out

[49:24]and with this kanye all of a sudden took

[49:26]the step of he had done the kind of the

[49:28]chipmunk singing before he had taken the

[49:30]soul samples before

[49:31]and surprise surprise everyone started

[49:33]copying him so he did he totally switched

[49:35]up

[49:36]so he did he totally switched up

[49:36]and on this album he still is using a

[49:38]lot of

[49:39]in wikipedia it says less soul samples i

[49:41]would push back against that i think he

[49:43]still is using

[49:43]heavy heavy amount of soul samples but

[49:46]he is now bringing in a full 40 piece

[49:48]orchestra

[49:49]to do parts of these songs and really

[49:51]give it kind of a real

[49:52]full sound and and you can hear it from

[49:55]from uh

[49:56]from college dropout to this it's a real

[49:58]true musical advancement

[50:00]uh of the albums this album ended up

[50:02]getting eight grammy nominations

[50:04]and winning best rap album of the year

[50:06]it was the second year in a row that

[50:10]kanye won that this guys this is the

[50:12]next year after college dropout he comes

[50:14]out with this album i mean you know

[50:16]they're that close together some artists

[50:18]have a sophomore slump this isn't even

[50:19]close this album it's a shame because i

[50:22]i couldn't listen to it at work because

[50:23]people could see what i was listening to

[50:25]and i just couldn't play it but this

[50:27]album when i was listening to it at home

[50:48]exploring music understanding music

[50:52]that time um listening back to it i love

[50:54]listening to this album especially right

[50:57]um because it's so anthemic um you know

[50:59]kanye is not the best rapper lyrically

[51:01]he's kind of a little bit cheesy he's a

[51:03]little bit good

[51:04]um but i think that it's interesting to

[51:07]listen to it now because i think there's

[51:08]some there's there's some almost self

[51:10]awareness in it that i think he kind of

[51:11]lost obviously over time um yeah looking

[51:14]at it it's like it's super youthful it's

[51:16]like try it's just a triumphant bastard

[51:19]um and i think it's you know musically

[51:21]it's it's it's unbelievable i think one

[51:22]of the things about kanye i've always

[51:23]thought is like his ear for music is is

[51:25]outstanding there's youtube videos out

[51:27]there about all the samples that he uses

[51:29]and whether it's things that you've heard

[51:30]all the time like you know pretty young

[51:32]thing um you know some of the you know

[51:34]some of the songs that he he's used that

[51:36]people know really well versus you know

[51:38]really obscure too um i think his ear

[51:40]for music is incredible and i think that

[51:42]shines through on this album and so uh

[51:44]yeah i mean it's i think it's

[51:45]outstanding it lags a little bit in the

[51:46]middle and you know listening to it

[51:47]critically preparing for this really

[51:50]kind of hit me but i think the front and

[51:51]back are are some of the best you know

[51:53]some of the best things that are out

[51:54]there

[51:58]chain just us two where all i do is i

[61:29]not sure how big the breakthrough was
