[00:00]all right all right my voice is kind of i kind of the sly and the family stone voice i can go into

[00:04]today i'm gonna have some bottom i am a power bottom oh jesus i take it all night all right

[00:16]here we go that's gonna have to stay in guys i gotta listen i'm in my room this turns out we're

[00:25]doing a riot going on i'm in my room i'm shutting you guys down i'm just gonna write a thousand

[00:28]songs it's gonna take me three years we'll be fine this is early for it but it does seem fitting

[00:37]actually oh yeah i mean i guess a corner you kind of start in a corner right the start of the show

[00:43]is kind of a corner i do see that the waterbed soundbite made the cut a few weeks back oh it's

[00:49]never going away you never know i mean it comes up way more than it does in my normal life i'll

[00:57]see it in a couple of weeks i'll see it in a couple of weeks i'll see it in a couple of weeks

[00:59]i'll see it in a couple of weeks i'll see it in a couple of weeks i'll see it in a couple of weeks

[01:00]this resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the order and led us to

[01:04]making this podcast we are far from experts we promise to do almost no research all opinions

[01:09]are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy beck did it better we are all the way

[01:15]up to album 119 actually aaron i disagree with you i thought your brother was pretty good you

[01:21]didn't have to trash you before i disagree i'm kidding i better edit that out sorry rob i

[01:25]interrupted you that's what he gets for bringing up the puking in the outfield story

[01:29]well there's my brother he'll be so happy to see me hit a home run

[01:35]sorry rob i disagreed during your opening

[01:41]this is from 1960 1969 it's sly and the family stone with stand you have to say it like that

[01:50]because there's an exclamation point in it to stand uh now listen guys before we get started

[01:55]this is real

[01:55]okay i was looking up um scatman crothers i heard scatman crothers is alive the actor from the

[02:00]shining and i was like oh i thought scatman crothers was the guy who did i'm the scatman

[02:05]and it turns out that guy is named scatman john there were two famous scatmen no well

[02:11]there's scat there's two famous scatmans two famous and scatman um and so he's a scatman

[02:19]i looked up scatman john and i and i have some bad news and this is real this is something i made

[02:26]and i'm kind of regretting it hang on robert all of your google searches in all caps

[02:29]i'm telling my browser what's up okay i'm showing my browser i'm in charge

[02:36]you're not shifting the whole time no it's caps like i'm not a psycho you know what i'm right

[02:42]shifting i'm right shifting the whole time i'm using my right fingers to right shift like a

[02:46]sicko that's sick right shifting like crazy

[02:49]i don't know if my right shift button has ever been pushed on my keyboard now that i look at it

[02:53]so scatman john just to let you know you left shift if you're typing a left key like you left

[02:58]shift i always i always left shift i always left shift yeah i do two fingers at once

[03:03]wait what are you supposed to right shift on those yes you guys are shifting with the other

[03:09]hand and you're typing yeah what if it's like a capital w what do you do didn't you ever pass

[03:14]z-bug in like fifth grade or fourth grade what the hell what kind of class b typing classes

[03:19]i i took the discount i took uh davis meekin and davis meekin he was not good at typing he was

[03:27]not great well it's mavis beacon but it's for cheaper god damn it you guys didn't do mavis

[03:33]beacon typing that joke doesn't land with you guys i'm doing davis meekin i thought the cookies

[03:38]got sent to you this week it sounds like they got sent to rob so here's the thing yeah davis

[03:42]meekin was like ah fuck it type while you want just use one finger who the fuck cares i was like

[03:47]mom you should not have got the discount typing program you should not have got the discount typing program

[03:49]davis meekin he's like he's like you're mostly going to play use keyboards to play video games

[03:56]anyway so just know wasd shift is run okay get out of here um anyway listen guys aaron i don't

[04:02]want to talk about davis meekin anymore okay that's not fair it's not gonna be a bit no davis

[04:06]meekin and no stops saying so much shit about your brother you did an excellent job i'll tell

[04:11]you what it's all fair this now i feel really bad for doing this bit did you have a shirt on

[04:15]did you have a shirt on when you did this i did have a shirt on it i'm sad to say that the scat

[04:19]john famous scat man it turns out one of two famous i mean in this year in memoriam you could

[04:27]have multiple scat men it's kind of crazy but 90 he passed away december 3rd 1999 so i thought what

[04:35]better way look at the number one question that somebody asked people at people also ask what is

[04:39]the number one question what disability does scat man john have well you know from his song

[04:43]he stuttered because he said i i stutter but not when i sing that was the irony is that scat man

[04:49]had a stutter and he spoke out about it and that's why you know what that's why today on

[04:53]veterans day i'm in my full navy white sitting here i am saluting our nation's hero scat man

[05:00]john so i have i have made a funeral song for scat man john and again this is something i don't

[05:06]regret i think this is a great idea it's six minutes long so let's play it

[05:19]i turned the scat man into a minor key slow dirge

[05:35]what i don't even know what album we're doing anymore i spent an hour not with my family

[05:41]figuring out how to turn the scat man into a minor key dirge i kind of don't mind it like it's i mean

[05:47]it's not bad it's kind of like a chopped and screwed scat man

[05:50]man this is why we do two episodes a night rob would have never pulled this shit out of two

[05:57]we gotta keep it more busy

[06:00]so to you scat man i give you the beck did it better navel salute

[06:10]coming up from a navel that's how i did it so

[06:14]we miss you scat man we love you

[06:17]aaron do you have anything you want to say about scat man john

[06:19]no i actually really enjoyed your remix

[06:21]yeah well if the scat man can do it so can you and i think that those words are

[06:25]never been truer than today so listen enough of this nonsense okay enough this is crazy

[06:30]can we i mean i i i'm legitimately want to know can we hear just a little bit of that scat man

[06:35]dude yeah can we play the real one this was this not a huge song in your guys's childhood

[06:40]i'm still confused about the all caps

[06:41]this is a giant song in my childhood

[06:45]i'm scat man

[06:46]whoa

[06:47]wait a second are we doing sly the family stone or what's going on

[06:50]i don't know you think i listened to the actual album

[06:53]okay i remember now

[06:57]oh my god do you guys not know the scat man song well this bit would not work

[07:01]i'll be honest i was a little bit confused between scat man and fat man school

[07:07]oh now i got it

[07:08]fat boy slim too there's a lot out there

[07:11]and we salute you all

[07:12]so now does this make more sense

[07:17]russ's friends are not gonna text him this week about how great the episode was i can tell you that

[07:30]okay

[07:30]i'll send it to you

[07:34]we'll probably get a positive text about radiohead after the beginning of this thing right

[07:39]listen 12 inch listen extra remix that vocals only i whip out my big 12 inch

[07:46]uh so here's the thing of my record that plays the blues of course uh here's the thing is that

[07:51]uh listen two things number one if you shift like i do with the left hand and the left key shift key

[07:56]type in shift like rob hashtag shift shift like rob 802 277 back also send a send a video of

[08:03]yourself typing a capital w because how the fuck do you do that like this i put my thumb here and

[08:08]then my finger two fingers at a time it's no big deal and then uh if you think you don't use your

[08:13]pinky no i use my i use my ring and then i use my middle for the w i just tried it

[08:17]so if i'm gonna do it at all i would use my pinky to shift and then go you're using your ring finger

[08:25]and then

[08:26]this album is only eight songs long russ we're gonna be fine okay if you thought my scatman

[08:35]funeral dirge was good go hashtag uh rip scatman okay send that in 802 277 back or wherever just

[08:42]or just tell the guys

[08:43]apparently that's something we do too is we just text the other co-hosts and they text me

[08:46]giving us zero content so a lot of that been going on i'm so upset sometimes i need to calm

[08:50]down you know how i like to calm down i listen to the radio let's turn it on

[08:54]sometimes when i'm writing this song i think about the people listening along yes i used to think that

[09:12]it would be in the thousands now i know it's just mostly our friends

[09:19]there's mostly matt's friends sarah and kirsten there's magic mike and brian the brother of aaron

[09:36]all these folks love my penis jokes

[09:39]there's a wife at gmail there's

[09:42]there's banny and neil

[09:44]there's carrie and gretta

[09:51]yes

[09:53]listened to by dozens of folks

[09:56]buried from burnsville loves he ain't no bleaching jokes

[10:01]and then there's darren and don't forget about the data

[10:12]listen to about that many people

[10:15]when you want to hear about the greatest albums all the time

[10:21]i noticed you could you can get one little shout out for the complimentary movie goers out there

[10:27]oh i forgot about uh aaron's recording friend i forgot about replacement sky and i forgot about

[10:35]complimentary movie goer guy and i forgot about my two sisters

[10:39]my bad

[10:42]and melissa and suzanne there i said i'm gonna edit that in later it's gonna be totally cool

[10:48]listen we are here talking about stand by sliding the family stone and this is a no nonsense podcast

[10:53]we're getting right down to business okay we're not trying to do anything avant-garde or cool

[10:57]because we actually get criticized for it and people say mean things to us listen but i would

[11:02]rather not be anywhere else especially not in bed but i'm talking to these three guys

[11:06]right now who want to talk about sliding the family stone and the album stand uh i've got

[11:11]matt minneapolis matt how are you doing just doing great rob very excited can't wait to get into it

[11:18]i'm thanks for having me i'm feeding off that energy yum yum yum lick it up uh i got a russell

[11:23]minnesota russell how are you doing guys my beat is getting stronger and my music's getting longer

[11:28]too boom shakalaka boom yeah

[11:31]your beat's getting longer i never mind uh no no no rob the beat's getting stronger oh the

[11:40]beat's getting stronger about that

[11:41]that's true that's true i mean it is i mean it really is a vicious assault going on if you

[11:48]really looked at that like if you if you did it to somebody else they'd be like you sir you need

[11:52]to stop like that's too much it's just going to hang on i think sir sir please well thank you

[12:01]first of all thank you for calling me sir i was knighted okay i i have a friend who started a new

[12:09]podcast it's called the timberwolves podcast

[12:11]he covers the timberwolves on a weekly basis nice that's a rough what is it called russell

[12:16]the timberwolves podcast it's very good and he's a former broadcaster and it's funny he does these

[12:21]little bits where at the end of every episode he does like a wolves look back in time and he'll

[12:26]talk about like a horrible timberwolves moment you know in years past i gotta check this out

[12:30]and in his last week he talked about the time where eddie griffin got caught jerking off in his car

[12:35]and yeah he didn't have to make it

[12:39]you know i feel bad here but

[12:40]you know i feel bad here but

[12:41]but it was funny because the podcast that we know um talked about eddie griffin wailing away

[12:47]on himself in an announcer voice and it was the funniest thing i've ever heard

[12:50]have any professional wrestlers appeared on this guy's podcast yet i'm gonna have to check it out

[12:55]i'm waiting for dirty ernie one of these days listen next up out in california okay we've got

[13:03]aaron and aaron i was just thinking about you know old times i have some people going back to

[13:06]for some reason i have no idea why but you remember that guy at st. olaf who was absolutely obsessed with the

[13:11]counting

[13:11]no i don't ah geez i do i i wonder what he's up to now uh aaron how are you doing

[13:18]i'm too it's probably only in the high hundreds of thousands at this point

[13:23]you can make it if you try rob let's talk about sly and the family stone i need to bring back

[13:28]the scam man parody a lot of people are texting my phone's blowing up right now

[13:33]uh so listen here's the deal i forgot what the next segment is

[13:37]his voice

[13:38]rob's eyes are not even

[13:40]open

[13:41]no we'll stop it but we're serious oh i know what my voice i'm sorry okay here we go

[13:45]we have a voicemail yeah we got a voicemail

[13:50]so here's my number on the back line 802-277-BECK that's 802-277-2325

[14:02]every fucking time i've played this sound clip you've talked over that

[14:05]i can't i edited out every fucking time don't call me maybe and ask me

[14:10]not to sing along every time you have to be like okay so aaron knows at the end i say call the

[14:15]back line these are like a million times he sings over it every time i can't help myself

[14:18]this is the first time rob has actually pointed at anger in us at the zoom like i'm wondering if

[14:23]that's his pinky finger that touches the chip key on the left oh this is my right finger

[14:27]there's no shifting at all this thing is just hunting and pecking baby do you want to do it

[14:32]again to get a clean take no no i'm not playing that against humiliating okay now i listen

[14:40]good thing we have a lot of extra time this is a really long voicemail all right hi boys it's

[14:45]claire the square russ's cousin calling again just wanted to point out that at one point when

[14:51]you know people were calling in with voicemails that we were made fun of and said oh gosh these

[14:56]people have nothing to do with their time and i just want to point out that now you're begging

[15:01]for voicemails and i believe you've been building time while describing a music video that no one

[15:08]else could see

[15:09]can i just say right now that this this is extremely hurtful voicemail

[15:15]and it turns all four of us on we love it we love being criticized okay this is our favorite thing

[15:23]it's true that we at one point we were so high on our horse that we said oh we can yell at the

[15:28]beck line we can yell at these make fun of these callers this will never affect us we will have to

[15:33]have no consequences for our actions they like they like being nagged isn't that the right term

[15:37]you treat them like shit they like that right

[15:39]that's what i thought but it turns out they do not they do not want to call back

[15:44]um and yes it turns out that we should have been nicer to you so thank you voicemail caller for

[15:49]calling i just want to say that from the bottom of my heart too late to remind yourself that hey

[15:53]be kind to the voicemailers and by the way a lot of people like the video segment okay a lot of

[15:59]people thought that was good they wanted to see and guess what it made a lot of people go watch

[16:02]the chattahoochee you didn't have to and you or you could have played at the same time next time

[16:05]we'll say push play and we'll all watch it together okay so it sounds like

[16:09]sounds like another idiot teacher not only do they use their pinky on the shift they probably

[16:13]don't know how to play on a youtube video let's play when the lion roars and then it's all synced

[16:17]up together the third roar the third if you're a teacher you play a youtube video and then you do

[16:22]what i do which is you put your mouse not in the middle of the screen but just slightly off to the

[16:26]side and it bothers every single kid in the room incredibly you just sit there they're like move

[16:30]the mouse i'm like no it's fine it's fine they do not like it's so cruel all right here we go

[16:39]i got someone else like to talk a little bit about their feelings this is going to blow your mind hello

[16:44]this is jeff from apple valley i've got a couple bones to pick with you in particular and anybody

[16:49]that doesn't know so first of all if you're wondering why it's a long voicemail i think

[16:54]that does the answer itself robin sam show at st alex college um i want to really address the issue

[17:03]of you almost getting me kicked out of college for a variety of reasons mainly when you told me

[17:09]i didn't want to pay or left the message for uh larue pierce that i didn't want to pay tuition and

[17:15]i just wanted to not go to college anymore uh i just want to point out to the aftermath of that

[17:20]when he brought into his office and uh yelled at me for uh not wanting to pay for college anymore

[17:28]and drop out um and that was one of the most awkward things i've ever had to deal with

[17:32]was larue pierce yelling at me so i want to say i haven't forgiven you all

[17:39]you're bad human beings in particular rob ross you're awesome the other guys here yes

[17:46]yes fine made it on the record right now and say i still have some issues that i need to

[17:53]work out with my therapist thank you listen i hope he's not peeing that therapist by the hour

[17:59]my god he'd be broke speedy to say those words there but we're not making fun of the backstories

[18:04]okay so what'd you do what'd you do rob you went you went to one of your coaches one of your teammates

[18:08]wanted to drop out or what happened here i did have a radio show and it turns out that you could

[18:13]on the radio show just call people you could call people on the phone just call people talk to me

[18:18]about the phone you could call maybe dairy queen and ask for a cake that has swear words on it or

[18:22]you could call the video store in town and ask for pornographic movies of different titles and you

[18:27]know funny titles radio show why is i'm confused well and so so then i got the good idea of you

[18:33]know what i should start doing is calling the deans of the school like the head of the school

[18:38]and leave voicemails as people that are real that are not me so i called as uh jeff from apple valley

[18:44]and i said listen this is jeff and what i said exactly was i have not been getting up for a lot

[18:49]of my eight o'clock classes and i'm wondering if i could get a discount if i could get some money

[18:53]back because i just haven't been going and that's on me if i could just get like a few hundred bucks

[18:57]this weekend that we could work on later that'd be funny he gets called in they sit down with him

[19:02]i think at this time i am 21 years old so this is not like

[19:08]right out of high school making mistakes so he gets called in and to just credit i have to say

[19:13]he did not turn me in he knew exactly who had done it as soon as it happened he's like oh that's yep

[19:18]rob did that and he and he said no that wasn't me i'm sorry i didn't leave that message he never

[19:22]ratted me out so to that i do have to tip my cap get stitches i've said it to you guys in private

[19:27]i'll say it again jeff from apple valley best athlete i ever played with like interacted with

[19:32]ever period he never played on that softball team with you though i guess why yeah you declared you

[19:38]were the greatest athlete in the softball team you were better than cory you were better than

[19:44]cory you were a better athlete you would have been the best player but he was not okay he was

[19:49]better than that steve he was the guy that steve he was the guy that when i got to college i was

[19:55]like oh okay i'm really nervous because i don't think i'm good enough to play football and then

[20:00]i like saw this guy he's huge and then he's playing basketball for some reason he's playing

[20:04]pickup basketball like pre-season which is probably a reason why we weren't a great team to start with

[20:08]right there that's a bad start um and he was so good with the best player for why they're not good

[20:14]he was so good and athletic and i was like oh oh i see i'm totally i don't know and they're

[20:18]like oh how old is this guy oh he's also a freshman oh that's great awesome so good thing i good thing

[20:23]i beat his ass in high school in the playoffs otherwise what would i ever talk about with those

[20:26]apple guys so when you call the deans what is your intention here just to have like these people have

[20:32]awkward conversations or what are you hoping to accomplish by that rob yeah it's just chaos it's

[20:37]the same reason i got caught this year this week at a meeting at school where they're making a

[20:41]school schedule and the woman who's basically the third person in charge of the school is done

[20:46]talking and sits down everybody kind of gives her a nice round of applause and i turn to the guy next

[20:49]to me and i go i can't wait for a schedule that we all love and nobody hates and she goes oh excuse

[20:54]me rob what'd you say and so everything the whole thing goes quiet this is the whole thing goes

[20:58]quiet and i go and i go i can't wait for a new schedule that we all love and nobody hates it gets

[21:04]a huge laugh

[21:07]and i'm like great this person hates me though it's just like my whole life i can't help but just

[21:11]cause trouble so what how many classes do you currently have right now each day well i i mean

[21:17]my busiest day four but they're only like 45 minutes so like but like an average day you have

[21:23]like two classes yeah two classes a day yeah so you're completely your schedules you're gonna

[21:28]have four to five classes yeah i'm gonna teach at 8 00 a.m and then at 2 30 and i'm gonna have

[21:32]nothing in between but i gotta sit in that godforsaken place the whole time so quickly so

[21:36]quickly the the dean you called was very strategic too though wasn't it right yeah in that case so

[21:42]larue pierce was a dean and a football coach and was one of the scariest human beings i've ever

[21:47]encountered in my entire life he was absolutely huge to the point where we were outside and we

[21:51]were seen at the time when we were 20 some years old it was the coolest thing i'd ever seen a

[21:56]tornado forming directly overhead and we were all outside like this kicks ass there's a tornado over

[22:02]so we're sitting there staring at this is going to be full-on twister we're going to see cows flying

[22:05]around and see women in white shirts it's going to be the best and this guy comes out this dude

[22:09]get the hell back inside and i was like jesus christ this is scary as hell we got to get back

[22:14]this is an adult man yelling at 23 year old men we are also men i'll tell you what if we want to

[22:20]get sucked up by a tornado okay or maybe lie down on the ground and see what happens we can't we have

[22:24]that right okay that gorilla grip well i mean i'll give it an f you want an f5 i'll give it a five

[22:34]with the left shift too yeah f5 i mean what does control f5 do what does that i've heard

[22:41]about the fujita scale but the thought i was going to have something fajita

[22:47]nailed it yes rob you're back rob do you rob do you have old robin sam shows do you have them

[22:52]yeah i do i have my cassette because they should totally be put out on youtube or something just

[22:56]just uh you might get more you might get more uh listens to that than this podcast i was actually

[23:02]going to upload it as a podcast one time just yeah throw it up and just but i was concerned

[23:06]because i was like we play so much copyright music and i don't want to go through the recordings and

[23:09]edit that out but now if you're having this podcast i realize it does not matter nobody cares

[23:13]like nobody's going to listen to it you can do whatever you want so i should i should digitize

[23:17]all those because i know what's going to happen the tape is going to like give out yeah my memories

[23:22]but i know also that when i listen to it it's going to make this podcast sound really super

[23:26]advanced and fancy because i never prepared anything it might surprise you guys i never

[23:29]prepared anything for that show didn't have any idea what we were going to do that's why russell

[23:33]and aaron's show was so much better they would come in and be like we're going to drink a gallon milk

[23:36]and i was like god damn that's a good idea i need to know guys joke we ever had we literally read

[23:43]onion articles on air and said like this is a bit and we read somebody's onion article like that's

[23:48]plagiarism like that's just stealing a bit stupid stupid stuff waste of time f5 there's something

[23:57]there there's something there

[24:00]no there's not there's not it's time to see what everybody's up to it's time for rolling gold oh

[24:10]yeah ah rolling going rosie how is it this is the segment where rosie says how it's going and we all

[24:18]say what the hell rosie how's it going it's really it's going great i do have a theme for tonight's

[24:23]rolling god i prepared a theme do you guys mind if i talk about gambling yes anyway is anyone in this

[24:29]house interested in gambling i thought you meant this theme i thought you meant you had a theme

[24:34]but it's like i was like oh that's a good thing that's a good thing yeah um aaron unless it

[24:39]involves why is lsu line so low compared to arkansas tomorrow which by the way i just saw

[24:44]on tick-tock and i'm obsessed with yes i would like to talk about gambling i will say i did the

[24:48]one the one piece of real gambling news i saw is that we missed the chance to bet the under in a

[24:53]college basketball game on an aircraft carrier that happened today like if you look at the

[24:57]all-time stats for college hoops games that took place on aircraft carriers like there's some

[25:01]incredible low shooting percentages like always bang the ender on that one but uh i've been

[25:07]gambling a bit lately on a few things uh first thing tonight uh tried to make some shawarma for

[25:13]dinner so always all right off the bat you're gambling if you're trying to make something that

[25:18]you should yes professionals yes secondly my lady is not a garlic fan but i bought some black garlic

[25:25]which is supposed to be less potent than regular garlic so i gambled by putting some black garlic

[25:31]in it's fermented so it's milder so i i snuck a little garlic into the white sauce i made for the

[25:37]shawarma so that's a gamble right there today today third man records released the first

[25:44]of their reissue series they released first pressing first official vinyl release since

[25:49]1974 of alice coltrane's classic pata the elder ood this came out today i could have pre-ordered

[25:53]it but i'm gambling i'm going to go to the record store tomorrow see if it's still there see if it's

[26:01]not sold out this is an incredible record one of my favorites of all time but i'm gambling on it

[26:07]i'm gambling see if it's still there i was just about to make fun of you but i'm excited if it's

[26:11]a record if it's one of your favorite records of all time and it's re-released i'm so excited for

[26:14]you aaron thank you i appreciate it feral sanders on tenor sax in the right channel except on alto

[26:20]flute on the second track joe henderson tenor sax on the right channel except on alto flute on the

[26:21]track joe henderson tenor sax alto flute in the left channel ben raleigh on drums the left channel

[26:28]okay i'm not aaron i'm not on carter i'm bored alice recorded this in the basement of her house

[26:34]and she put the taxes on each side but what i really want to get to is the whipsaw along with

[26:40]the gambling theme so i mentioned to you guys that i went to this wedding in kansas city one of our

[26:45]listeners got married it was a beautiful wedding i told you they served steak and chicken at the

[26:49]at the yeah ceremony so that was amazing

[26:51]i mean that's like that makes sense that's that's known as a salad in kansas city the other thing

[26:55]exactly the thing i didn't mention is that i i there was a grooms sort of not like like a bachelor

[27:02]afternoon on the afternoon of the wedding so the a staying party if you will a stag party if you

[27:07]will and so the groom and his his buddies uh went to a distillery in kansas city and i was lucky

[27:13]enough to be invited along and even though i don't know any of those guys all that well and it was a

[27:18]you know it was like one of these activities where it was like a disparate group of

[27:21]dudes it was like yeah the groom's friends from kansas city i'm the groom's brother by marriage uh

[27:27]there's uh like the father and the future father-in-law was there you know the groom's

[27:32]brother-in-law was there so it's like you know guys from kind of from all over and it's kind of

[27:35]this awkward thing until one of the guys from kansas city breaks out some dice and a big stack

[27:42]of ones and all of a sudden we're just we're playing a game the game's called threes do you

[27:46]guys know this one no dude you're throwing dice in a role fight yeah i'm not gonna lie it's a fun game

[27:47]no dude you're throwing dice in a role five yeah i know six five four with dollars that you know

[27:53]that's about all i know and if it's anything like that it it was probably awesome yeah it

[27:58]was fantastic it was you you go around you try to get the lowest score possible three is a zero

[28:04]every time you yeah doesn't matter but all of a sudden like you got this group of guys who barely

[28:09]know each other and all of a sudden it's exciting it's fast-paced people like so yeah the juices are

[28:16]flowing so shout out to the guy who carries the dice i kind of want to be carrying dice guy he

[28:20]was like a nice set of dice like he definitely kept this in his that you know on his person for

[28:25]this purpose i was really like that would be awesome to be a dice guy i think that would be

[28:30]fun when you're in a group you're just like and he he just said one he's like this is my time

[28:34]this is it right here i've been carrying these dice for years he slapped those ones down on

[28:38]the table and said boom yeah and it's like everybody yeah because everybody's kind of

[28:41]staring at each other like oh hey what are you guys where are you from what do you do whatever

[28:46]he said on his camera shut his video he's so excited about playing that's so funny there it

[28:51]is and then i was like you know i was like well you guys mind if i get in all i got to 20 and

[28:54]they're like oh yeah this guy over here he's got a full stack like cash him out like get in for a

[28:59]dollar it was amazing so gambling really brings people together yeah i think it's a fantastic

[29:04]idea so shout out to that guy and they're going home to their friends i mean gambling brings

[29:08]everybody together but they're going over to all their friends at home and being like

[29:11]yeah i went to this bachelor party and it turns out one of the guys was a real peep show guy he

[29:14]kept saying hey let's go to the peep show like he kept saying it over and over like oh let's go to

[29:18]the peep show i know there's a peep show let's go to a peep show and it's like i let's i've got i got

[29:23]on my dice i was like please we can't go to the peep show do you guys ever do like a poker game

[29:28]night or anything like that with friends you guys ever yeah night or anything i've tried that it's

[29:33]been a long time yeah so my move at card night is i always want to be the bully i always want to like

[29:39]like when everyone's betting like 50 cents and being nice and letting everyone stay in the hand

[29:44]i'm always like it i'm betting big i want to be the jerk i want to be in control of the

[29:48]game i want people to fear me when i'm at that card table what's your guy's style when it comes

[29:53]to poker or that type of thing my problem is i play with all richfield people so they're all

[29:58]conniving sons of to begin with you know and so but the one guy he would go when before diamond

[30:05]joe's down in iowa just over the border had their uh they now have a sports book as for about a year

[30:12]ago but before that they had a poker room and all these minnesota people got on there because it was

[30:17]no limit poker we're up in minnesota it's yeah it's limit poker and so everybody would want to

[30:22]go down there so he would go every friday night every you do something friday friday night what a

[30:27]loser every friday night he'd go down and play poker so he's the one who's hosting this this

[30:31]card game right yeah and so he's got a poker table he also set up half of a craps table

[30:36]and would practice craps yes you know yeah and so like you know he's one of those guys

[30:42]yeah i'm a basement away for being this guy i swear to christ he's i mean he's one of those

[30:46]guys who's taken like the classes like if you hold these right and if you get the flick of the wrist

[30:52]right every time you're you know you're getting you're gaining an advantage kind of a thing

[30:56]so this is the guy that hosts it so russell as much as i would and then everybody else like it's

[31:02]the old thing you know you look around the room and if you can't tell the sucker is it's you right

[31:06]like like i just know that i'm the sucker playing with this at this table right so these guys are

[31:10]ruthless they never are ruthless they're never ruthless they're ruthless they're ruthless they're

[31:11]ruthless they never get like big bets or anything you know but like they just go cutthroat at each

[31:16]other and they've been best of friends since they were like eight kind of a deal they're a couple

[31:20]years older than i am and so i played a lot of sports with them so i've known them for about half

[31:24]as long as they've known each other kind of a deal but they're ruthless and so i cannot even come

[31:28]close to trying to bully them because they sniff me out as soon as i even just blink like oh well

[31:34]let me see i'll raise you there they just start laughing at me and like all right i know what you're doing

[31:40]i would be suspicious if i went to somebody's house for a poker night and next to me was a half

[31:45]craps table that they obviously i'd be like i don't think i'm gonna do too much at this game

[31:51]and you know when richfield guys are getting together too they're playing games like you know

[31:54]three card muskigi hold them shoot them where you gotta like know all the different rules and it's

[31:58]like well there's 19 000 games and every time they have to tell me like all right no this is

[32:04]here's how you play this i'm like okay i got it so yep they i mean they are pulling stuff yeah yeah

[32:10]i don't know what to say i don't know what to do i don't know what to do i don't know what to do

[32:12]a guy's got an in-between deck or holder just just for in between for whatever it is you know i don't

[32:18]know so yeah these guys are crazy yeah the games like guts and in between are the best any game

[32:23]where it keeps doubling up on the loser and someone came thinking like oh i was just gonna

[32:27]have a fun night and lose like 40 bucks yeah and then they lose like 220 bucks because something

[32:32]kept doubling up on them and it ruins their night they have to wonder how they're going to explain

[32:36]it to their spouse that is a good game that's good that is a good game that is a good game that is a

[32:39]card and then you get the 200 bucks but it's mostly in quarters and you're like what the am

[32:43]i going to do with this is this just going to sit in my car forever until somebody oh no this i mean

[32:47]this guy this guy you got to buy in with chips i mean he's got his own chips with his own initials

[32:51]on them and everything oh that's i would say that's the warning sign number two right oh how

[32:56]did you afford these chips oh these games so so yeah that was it gambling brings people together

[33:01]and uh it's it's an important piece of life so russell what's what's rolling going with you man

[33:05]rolling going you know the last few weeks or we've been talking you know i've been requesting music

[33:09]on my venmo yes so this this last week i actually went on another music adventure and i bought some

[33:15]music but it wasn't with my venmo it was at a record store oh yes no wait we have that good for

[33:22]you shh do you hear that it's time to talk about the process wow yes that is a throwback we haven't

[33:34]done that one in a long time nice work rob made the cut so so this time i went to a new record

[33:39]store i've been to the one in south minneapolis before i think it's called no name records but

[33:43]i believe matt the one matt has talked about before is called roadrunner records isn't that

[33:47]your story that's it yep about 46 the nickel yep so so i went to roadrunner records a couple

[33:53]observations i wanted to share before i talked to you guys about the music that i chose one

[33:57]what are your guys thoughts on a really narrow record store where you can barely squeeze by the

[34:02]person who's looking at records what are your thoughts i i i don't need to be accused of you know

[34:09]groping in the otis redding isle like i i do not just get me out of there i don't like narrow stuff

[34:14]i don't like narrow stores especially with how big and broad i am i'm just like i feel like i i just

[34:18]feel huge i feel like uh gulliver's travels looking through those stores just huge all these

[34:24]lilliputians with their tiny records looking at them i respect it making the most out of their

[34:28]space it's probably you know not cheap to run a record store but yeah it feels it starts to

[34:33]feel a little sweaty in there if you're in there for very long it doesn't doesn't feel

[34:35]like you can peruse for very long as soon as more than three people get in there

[34:39]there now i'm trying to remember russell's record style and i think it's uh you a list a record from

[34:44]the list record from the list is one play on the playbook yeah you get uh oh was there a record in

[34:50]the sale bin right uh one best one dollar record is correct and then there's a and then there's a

[34:56]record what's the third one it's a record that we've talked about that's like not on there i

[35:01]don't we have a new one a brand new one not a used one and then the last one of course rob is most

[35:07]perverted

[35:09]oh i'm gonna pass out every time you do this yeah i go into i go to roadrunner

[35:17]and i'm immediately running my plays because you know i'm already worried about the narrow

[35:21]hallways and like you know trying to get by people i just need to get in run my system get

[35:26]my records and get out of there so i see one that is definitely going to fit the bill for uh the

[35:32]what's it called the most perverted but i choose not to buy it because i think it's too perverted

[35:38]pornography by the cure oh okay well i mean all right listen i know it when i see it i mean yes

[35:45]he does is there are there any songs in there we know i decided not to get that one i thought it

[35:51]was too perverted i didn't know where to put that one and i was trying to fumble you know how i go

[35:55]in the corner and i fumbled through the records to put them in a respectable order i didn't know

[35:59]if pornography should go first or last or where it should go so i put it back but there were three

[36:04]three things that i noticed about this record store that i had to share they had sections that i

[36:08]wanted to talk about the first was they had a specific section for canned heat canned heat

[36:14]i opened it and there were no records in the section and then there's no records

[36:20]alternatively they did have a section that was stuffed full of records it was johan sebastian

[36:38]box section that'd be all right there's probably some good stuff in there i wouldn't know what to

[36:44]look for but i'll also look through the section on tom waits this is one of the record stores where

[36:47]it's got all the names listed and i was looking for the creepy tom waits song but i couldn't find

[36:52]i didn't know the name of the creepy song what was that one again what's he building in there

[36:56]what's he building that's on the that's on the mule variations album if you ever find that one

[37:02]he doesn't wave when i walk by that album also has come on up to the house which is a great

[37:08]in the house where nobody lives so eventually i start running my system the first record in my

[37:13]system highest one i could find on the list was born in the usa oh yes there he is yes

[37:20]vinyl with the boss you guys have any bruce springsteen records i have you got a lot of

[37:28]yeah i got four i think i've got nebraska uh i was gonna say of course we don't but it turns out

[37:34]park without a bruce springsteen record i

[37:38]used to have the river i'll be honest the river is the one i gave away that thing was too

[37:42]much of a downer i couldn't handle it next record next record i came across i decided to add a new

[37:49]record to my my strategy and that is if i ever go see something live i want to get the record of it

[37:54]right i like it so the one i got this week is a buddy holly record oh yeah it's got peggy sue on

[38:02]it rave on a bunch of other awesome songs so i figure anything you've seen live you need to get

[38:08]to go right well it's also super fun to listen to like that's the greatest music there is i just

[38:12]want to be clear you didn't see buddy holly live right yeah like you know that right like you saw

[38:16]a play where somebody was playing buddy holly i mean if he was gonna see buddy holly live who

[38:21]would he have to call first to see him like how would he make that happen i mean maybe they would

[38:26]call us you know anybody who could hook that up i don't know like could anybody make that happen

[38:30]hello hello hello

[38:33]hello baby

[38:38]what's going on oh big papa baby you gotta go through me if you want to talk to buddy holly

[38:46]can you put us in touch with buddy yeah you know you know he buddy holly he loves i'm losing a

[38:52]little bit buddy holly loves to talk to lawyers do you know why buddy holly loves to talk to

[38:56]lawyers why does he like talking to lawyers

[38:59]i mean i knew

[39:06]i mean i knew i would regret this but

[39:07]i heard that buddy holly got engaged after only knowing a woman for five hours what are your

[39:17]thoughts about getting engaged after five hours popper i asked him about that baby and you know

[39:21]what buddy holly said to me up here what do you say first of all he talked like this because his

[39:26]face got smashed in in the plane crash and it turns out that that affects you in heaven too

[39:31]you can do whatever you want in heaven but you are if you get your face smashed your face is

[39:34]smashed in heaven too a lot of people don't realize that they don't think it's great theology

[39:37]here i don't know yes it's true baby that's from pastor bruce i asked buddy holly why did you marry

[39:42]a woman after whatever russell said earlier and maybe i wasn't listening so closely and he said

[39:46]you know big papa i just wanted to see her chantilly lace and a pretty face and a pony

[39:53]he wanted those pantaloons baby oh yeah

[39:59]it was nice talking with you big bopper we'll have to give you a call next time we go to the

[40:05]record store please call me next time we go to the record store please call me next time we go to the record store

[40:07]please call me again i'm so i'm so lonely i'm so low so lonely so lonely

[40:13]i don't get to talk to big bopper as much as you guys do i think i'd like to i think it'd be

[40:20]something i got a lot of questions so the next album on the list i had to add another category

[40:26]i guess this one could be the most perverted because you guys know i like talking about

[40:30]my whipping post i got yes the allman brothers

[40:33]play with the post

[40:37]that's the best that is such a that that kicks is an all-timer that's a great idea

[40:43]what a great jam band one that would that be considered a jam band man oh absolutely one

[40:48]that's the jam band to start all jams that's awesome man rob always talks about like the

[40:53]mood music if you were playing this in college if if i had people over and i'm playing i'm playing

[40:57]the allman brothers live at fillmore east that people are impressed by that right yeah yeah so

[41:02]i added another category to my list that i'm probably going to be keeping going forward are

[41:05]we up to eight categories

[41:07]now yep i love it okay so this category is something that i've heard aaron recommend

[41:13]but hasn't been on the list yet so this is an aaron recommendation

[41:15]this album is aretha franklin young gifted and yes aaron has always said that this is his favorite

[41:23]aretha album we've listened to a couple but he says this is the one so i got aretha young gifted

[41:28]and black what are your thoughts on that i love that that's wonderful that's got donnie hathaway

[41:32]on keys that's got bernard pretty pretty on some drums that's got a great band

[41:37]and she's at her best yeah wonderful choice russell russell here's what i think yeah

[41:43]all right so i added that sound but

[41:45]all right i got so finally the last thing they had i also this is not one of my favorite things

[41:54]about a record store they've got the one dollar crates on the floor so you got to be like down

[41:59]in the catcher position or down on a knee to like fiddle through the ones on the floor this annoys

[42:04]me but i found two gems in there i believe aaron

[42:07]may have found this one a few weeks back this is one of my mom's favorites it's herbie man

[42:11]memphis underground oh yes for a buck that's a great record too that's a great record

[42:17]that's got sunny sherrock guitar yeah that's a value by major players on it and the last guy

[42:25]must have been like what the fuck is this guy's deal with music like what look at all this shit

[42:29]this is crazy you guys side two of memphis underground is chain of fools the aretha franklin

[42:35]song and the

[42:36]fucking battle him of the republic side two of memphis underground is amazing it's so weird and

[42:44]it's so good so the last one on the list is one we've talked about before i'm gonna give you the

[42:51]songs or the tracks and see if you guys can name who this artist is oh shit okay first side one is

[42:57]abe lincoln versus madison avenue introducing tobacco to civilization oh this is bob newhart i

[43:06]know exactly

[43:07]unfortunately there is no uh what's it called baseball or whatever but they've also got the

[43:19]cruise of the uss codfish retirement party returning a gift and the grace ferguson airline

[43:24]give me one russell and i'm gonna do his bit for you verbatim right now introducing tobacco to

[43:30]civilization hey hey so here's the deal i mean you gotta wonder yourself like tobacco like how did that

[43:36]even start so it's kind of like this it's like uh oh hey uh uh and then he's gonna probably do some

[43:41]super racist joke here so i'm gonna skip that part and then he's like hey i tried this stuff i i uh i

[43:47]i uh i i dried it oh good okay should i try to grind up into a powder put in a paste and try it

[43:52]no no no here's what we're gonna do we're actually gonna roll it up into a piece of paper

[43:55]light it on fire and then breathe in all the smoke uh excuse me

[43:59]i mean i know i'm a brave but that sounds dangerous to me

[44:06]it's stuff like that you know there's a lot of like it kind of trends on the pretty good yeah

[44:10]that's pretty good yeah and then at the end he's there's like a paul mall but it's paul mini mall

[44:15]it's kind of it doesn't fit now because there's not really the mini mall scene you know you guys

[44:19]don't talk about that's impressive that's impressive thank you i also got a double

[44:22]back because billy preston also plays keys on young gifted and black so i'd be remiss if i

[44:26]didn't mention the fifth beetle billy preston no idea so that's about my experience at the

[44:31]record store when i've got a new system got a bunch of new records that i think i'm going to

[44:34]enjoy so rolling going back to the record store i've got a new system i've got a bunch of new records

[44:36]how's it going with you no no great uh i i do love that store uh the last one i got i got

[44:43]rolling stone tattoo you oh a week and a half ago two weeks ago it's a double yeah and it's got my

[44:50]favorite song slave by the rolling stones which rob is playing over the top right now so you guys

[44:55]can hear every time every time you do that no you're not getting it every time you do that

[45:00]but type type type here i am shifting and pushing with the buttons and then now when i do that my

[45:05]left hand yeah i'm pushing with the buttons and then now when i do that i'm pushing with the

[45:06]left hand if i've been doing this wrong my whole life what else is a disaster for my whole life

[45:11]you know what i mean like i'm just gonna think like this is does this represent everything am

[45:16]i wrong about everything like it's um went to saw the smashing pumpkins and jane's addiction

[45:23]this past week and jane's addiction live is unbelievable oh my goodness yeah and perry is

[45:36]conversations with the crowd and it is just awesome it is just awesome and so i was so

[45:43]surprised at how well jane's addiction played you know and it probably makes sense right like

[45:48]they're really good and then they got completely drugged out and couldn't figure out anything and

[45:52]had people coming in and out and all that stuff and now they're coming back around they're a

[45:56]little older and they're just professionals it was unbelievable davaro play guitar for them at

[46:00]some point he did for a long time and i don't think he was on this tour because they would have

[46:06]there was a guy that looked exactly like him though yeah you know kind of a little taller

[46:09]hair a little bit longer that kind of a thing he kind of is in the spotlight but not really like

[46:14]he's kind of not really yeah all that kind of stuff that looks like dave navarro so that was

[46:20]awesome um and then i've been doing a lot of traveling lately and i think i figured out a new

[46:25]game to play at the airport a new one um and so i was walking i was in the minneapolis airport so

[46:36]i've got this thing down to a science now and so i had i had a seven o'clock flight the other day and

[46:42]so i'm just just letting you know how much i had this down in the morning was it in the morning

[46:48]at night huh boarding closer boarding start you know supposed to start at 6 20 all right

[46:56]oh that's early so i was gonna get up about five o'clock i had to make the boys lunches

[47:00]stuff like that i had to pack yet all this stuff and oh my god i wake up at five and packed

[47:06]oh i i got up at 5 27 is when i woke up and your flight was at seven and you had to pack so

[47:13]so i got up at 5 27 i had to take a shower had to shave had to seriously this is all this stuff

[47:19]about six o'clock i had to make the decision do i go now or do i make the lunches do i go

[47:26]and get sarah really pissed off at me because i didn't make the lunches because i didn't get

[47:30]my ass up in time to make the lunches or do i just go i decided to make the lunches

[47:36]yeah i made lunches okay so then about 608 609 i'm out the door wow okay at 6 10 what did you

[47:45]make in there what did you make in their lunches what'd you put in there um peanut butter jelly

[47:49]sandwich uh had some dots pretzels nice had some grapes and then i did get the little mini oreos i

[47:58]always give leo a few little mini oreos that's he's got a beef stick he's got a cheese stick and

[48:06]he's got some cut up apples that's his snack for the day so what a sweet dad i mean that's that's

[48:11]not a lunch that's like a that's like a buffet that's incredible geez man so so i had to get

[48:16]that to this so 6 10 i'm leaving out the door all right driving down the street i park i get i get

[48:23]in there i know that i gotta go to gold three you're parking at the airport too at the airport

[48:28]oh my god parking and gold three this is the closest one to the you can walk

[48:36]over you don't got to take an elevator down it's on the level that you can take over to the thing

[48:39]so i get there at 6 20 i get 10 minutes from my house door to door till i hit park okay so then

[48:46]i'm walking i hit park 6 20 walking walking out there lines are out the door i got clear i got tsa

[48:54]i am at my gate g3 at 6 27 right when they call for sky priority and so i have got this thing

[49:01]down to a science that's unbelievable so that's so that's that's not the

[49:06]game no but i just had to i had to tell you so then the next week i'm going and i and i got a

[49:11]little bit more time now right so i'm like okay let's cut a little close yeah so i got a little

[49:14]more time but now i gotta go to and russell might know this better than anybody i gotta go to like

[49:19]f 22 which is way down there all right and so they got all those walkways right that's getting very

[49:24]granular and so then there's walkways so there's you walk on the right or you you stand on the

[49:30]right and you walk on the left right and so you start going and if you're you want to walk right

[49:35]you're not a prick or anything you don't push by people you know you just if people are walking

[49:39]a little slower you just kind of walk a little slower maybe if there's room you go around and

[49:43]stuff like that but there's always one lady who is in such a hurry so much more of a hurry than

[49:49]anybody else that she is just going to push by everybody and just be rude you know there's there's

[49:54]rules to the road right oh no if there's if everybody's waiting to walk on that line there's

[49:59]five people you don't walk ahead of them you wait in line right so no game no to find those people

[50:05]and then just take up no both rows and find somebody else you can walk with and just get

[50:11]them pissed excuse me excuse me and i'm like hey we're all trying to go to the same spot

[50:17]excuse me we're all trying to go to the same spot so that's my new game russell is that people who

[50:22]are rude if somebody's nice let them go but if they're rude if you're rude we're gonna hold you

[50:27]up just for being rude that's we'll find you and we'll walk at the same speed as somebody next to

[50:31]on the moving walkway in an incredible problem the only problem is

[50:35]so this lady so i got i got ahead of her again and i'm and i'm slowing down and there's this

[50:41]there's this uh pilot who's with me and he's walking you know if we're if we need to be

[50:45]walking at pace 10 you know he's walking at about a nine so he's just slightly slower

[50:49]than this lady wants to go that is a fast walker too so if he's slowing down it's on purpose i've

[50:54]seen him so no but i had no i had to i had to kick it into overdrive and so the only problem

[50:59]with it was is i had another seven o'clock flight and so i'm sprinting with this lady but i gotta

[51:03]stay ahead of her so by the time i get to my gate after

[51:05]22 i am sweating balls right and so i'm like oh that's the only problem i had with that that's

[51:11]the only problem with that game is that you get a little bit too much workout then you go on the

[51:14]plane sweaty that's no good so that's my new game rob rolling going how's it going with you did you

[51:19]end up but you did end up making the plane oh yeah for sure i was gonna laugh my ass off if matt

[51:25]missed them both i was like oh no i missed both flights it's time for beck did it better we

[51:35]might have been the picture though the second one that i sent you guys

[51:38]nobody behind me why are your friends sending pictures of like them getting on a plane i was

[51:45]like there's so many layers there's so many layers i can't even start oh yeah she's like is this does

[51:52]this have anything to do why you take pictures with you or your thumbs down during a pilot's

[51:55]announcement i'm like yeah kind of i mean it's kind of the same it's the same ballpark you know

[52:00]yeah we're in the same sphere listen how do you think you spell the band that sang um

[52:05]uh uh knock me down you get up again what's that band's name

[52:09]spell it for me please just off the top of your head c-h-u-m-b-a w-u-m-b-a guys

[52:19]it's fucking chamba wamba it's w-a-m-b-a with an a wamba it's chamba wamba it's c-h-a-m-b-a

[52:35]that makes sense chamba i get it you know what i've been chamba i've been on that train my whole

[52:41]life that's how do you spell la bamba it sounds it's it's spelled kind of like that with the soft

[52:46]a right it might be correct you think chamba wamba is related to la bamba that's the smartest thing

[52:51]i've ever heard you're fucking albert einstein over there i mean that's crazy well it's the same

[52:57]it's the same phonetics right or whatever you want to call that la la la la chamba wamba

[53:02]i got a great

[53:05]idea for another song i really do it's super good should we hit pause should we take a little break

[53:10]is this where we go in or not yeah this is chamba richie valen's famous colleague if we needed to

[53:15]it's chamba wamba my question is this though is like i've we've seen how many times did you see

[53:22]that video a million times like how many times have you heard about chamba wamba why do we call

[53:26]him chamba wamba when it's chamba wamba it's not it's like la bamba chamba it's a soft a but chamba

[53:35]British people pronounce stuff crazy like yeah but it's like i'll venture off when then it would

[53:40]be chamba wamba like they say stuff weird man the name of that song is tub thumping right

[53:48]i mean that's true okay now we're doing chub thumping i let me see thambing god it's so you

[53:56]know tub thumping for these guys are so far back on their video page i gotta click back a couple i

[54:00]mean there's so many other chumbo womba videos that are up the front it's so weird play a chumbo

[54:05]it is not tub thumping i would love to don't think there are any there's gotta be you gotta

[54:09]admit though this is a bop why are we listening to this because i love chamba i love spelling

[54:19]and now the problem is i can pronounce it chamba wamba and that's not right either it's chumbo

[54:23]wamba you guys know who might have had too many whiskey and cider drinks who it was the captain

[54:29]of the edmund fitzgerald i was oh yes that yesterday was the 47th anniversary of the edmund

[54:35]fitzgerald crashing that's right i was reading about this that all these crashes happened

[54:40]because of these gale winds or gales up in in duluth i dated her in high school on superior

[54:45]and so i read that of the 600 shipwrecks on lake superior about half have occurred during this time

[54:52]of year i would say that's pretty scary that is and sad i would say do they say pissing the night

[55:05]away there yeah

[55:05]is that what this is guys here's that famous other famous chumba wamba song her majesty and everybody

[55:11]is a pretty nice girl but she doesn't wait wait yeah i know this one this is a cover it's a lennon

[55:18]mccartney cover yeah she changes from day to day but this is their only other thing i can find on

[55:27]youtube that's not how would paul mccartney pronounce chumba chumba hey man enough is enough

[55:34]and they did this song

[55:35]i mean this

[55:36]they did this it turns out his name you know what his name isn't scatman it turns out it's scat moon

[55:43]we'd never do it but it was spelt scat moon it's still i mean see that's mind-blowing you guys are

[55:47]laughing at my rolling going it's actually mind-blowing this was not a huge part of your

[55:52]life growing up was it i just all the times i've shown up and done a really good off the top of my

[55:58]head and rob says you had a week or two weeks or whatever and this is what you chose to talk about

[56:02]and here we are we're listening to scat man and talking about how to pronounce it

[56:05]we're listening to the scat man i think for the fourth time today not the first time

[56:10]all right fine you know what guys

[56:13]a national hero is dead you guys are oh you're laughing about it

[56:18]we didn't say died in 2003 according to wikipedia other singles by chumba wamba include amnesia

[56:27]enough is enough time bomb top of the world ole ole ole and add me which add me doesn't even have

[56:33]a link so it can't be that big vinyl only did not get that one digitized they were like me with the

[56:40]rob and sam show tapes don't have time to digitize this can't put it out there listen okay and a lot

[56:45]of people don't know this you know you know what how you know what scat man john did for a job

[56:49]he was a captain of a of a certain ship okay and i didn't want to bring this up

[56:55]and the last radio message i mean it's heartbreaking the last radio message

[57:03]the last radio message i mean it's heartbreaking the last radio message

[57:03]that we heard he said

[57:07]and they said who is this who is this who's calling it sounds like an emergency sos

[57:20]and he goes i'm the scat man

[57:24]so do you scat man

[57:33]thank you for your service both in the military and in the merchant marines we appreciate it

[57:41]i mean i really think you have some harder drums behind this thing yeah

[57:47]yeah if you crank up the drums a little harder producer now too

[57:51]yeah we definitely are i would i would rock to this rob send this over let's see what we can do

[57:56]with it oh my god it's i want man to take a crack at it we gotta have an extended version oh it's so

[58:02]good listen we are talking about a new album and we're talking about a new album and we're talking

[58:03]about sly and the family stone and basically sly and the family stone this is their second album

[58:07]after their album life life is their first album first of all i just gotta tell you right now i

[58:12]think sly and the family stone might be the worst namer of albums we've had yet their first one is

[58:17]life the second one is stand it's just we got to get some better names now there's a riot going on

[58:22]starting to pick up on their third album after this but you know sly and the family stone we've

[58:27]talked about them before you know they're a multi-racial band which was a huge deal in 1969

[58:31]you know 68 69

[58:32]you know 68 69

[58:33]and they were singing songs about you know civil rights and peace and harmony and and

[58:37]and but at the same time it was this super funky band with a keyboardist named sly stone and his

[58:44]sister was on the trumpet and his brother i think was his brother playing saxophone or something like

[58:48]that but basically sly said that when he was a radio dj he would play he said i got jimmy hendrix

[58:54]and i played bob dylan and then i played neil young he said i always wanted to keep the flow

[58:58]going differently i didn't want to get into a groove and you can hear that on every single

[59:03]album these songs they they're almost not like they're not even like a genre almost right it's

[59:09]kind of like a psychedelic but then you'll hear a super pop and it kind of is all over the place

[59:13]which i i thought was pretty neat about this album and then uh this was kind of this the album that

[59:18]came out right before their big performance at woodstock and apparently that performance at

[59:23]woodstock absolutely blew them up and i said this last time on the last line the family stone

[59:26]you need to watch live performances of sly and the family stone they are absolutely incredible

[59:33]uh the revolution will be televised that movie that q-tip movie they are it is an unbelievable

[59:38]experience watching them it's just great and then after this sly got quickly they said the

[59:44]year after this slide just got into cocaine like nobody's business and that kind of led to him

[59:49]locking himself in his room and making there's a riot going on which we've talked about previously

[59:53]and it was kind of all downhill from here so this is kind of their creative uh

[59:57]and that maybe not creative apex but it's the apex is a band i think you were talking about

[60:02]summer of soul by q-tip and it was kind of all downhill from here so this is kind of their

[60:03]quest love in case anybody's trying to find it that's what i was okay i was just wondering you

[60:07]know honestly i write i was trying to right shift and it screwed up everything but yes their

[60:11]performances on there are amazing they're they're costumes their performance the band super tight but

[60:16]you rob you're totally right it's almost uncategorizable psychedelic funk i mean it's

[60:21]them and funkadelic nobody else was doing it like this uh we're gonna get to funkadelic in less than

[60:27]a year oh i'm gonna be sick what if we're sick that episode is just actually aaron would like

[60:32]that it would be great if we were sick that episode actually aaron would like that it would be great

[60:33]like i mean this like this one and maggot brain the two of them like together are just like i think

[60:37]they're kind of companion pieces i think when things get really stale for us we should do where

[60:40]we each record a solo episode we just take an album we do a solo episode same bits we gotta do

[60:45]the same bits but it's just solo and then we just each get to listen to it i'd love it i'd love to

[60:50]listen i mean a matt solo episode oh my god it'd be so fun to listen to when yours be just you

[60:54]mispronouncing chamba wamba the whole time it's chumba wamba we've talked about this okay it's

[61:03]don't you're gonna get me back to scatman john again

[61:06]i just hate to think about him you know it's so scary yeah and somebody said you know scatman i

[61:18]the ship's going down but there's a lifeboat you know who's who's going to pilot this you're the

[61:23]captain how are you you're not going to help us and he said well if the scatman could do it

[61:27]so can you

[61:33]hey what would you call this open what would you call this opening track on the album here i think

[61:38]it is a titular track you know ever since i was in high school i would i love starting with the

[61:45]titular track it was one of my favorite things i think it's a great thing on an album it sets up

[61:49]the night in a right way when you know you're going to listen to this titular track i just

[61:52]want you to imagine you're at home you get this album okay you bought this and bob newhart came

[61:57]out probably around the same time you drop the needle on this think about what this sounds like

[62:03]and what's really interesting is when he recorded this song he played it in a club to see how it went

[62:16]right and it was a banger and they loved it until the end of the song and so sly said uh well i'm

[62:24]gonna go and re-record the end and you kind of see this future sly what's going to happen is that

[62:29]none of the band is around so he records it with just him and studio musicians and i've

[62:33]always wondered because i i was a big sly in the family stone fan growing up but you can hear it

[62:36]during this song you can hear where he tacks on the part you can hear the part where he tacks on

[62:42]the coda listen to the change in tone as it goes to the sessions musicians

[62:45]right there you can just hear that and they put on this kind of gospel type ending

[62:56]well i'm james brown i mean this is tighter this is like it goes from like muscle shoals to

[63:03]this is not the family stone this is all sessions musicians which is kind of fun oh yeah uh don't

[63:08]call me n-word whitey now this song threw me because they spelled whitey with an e i don't

[63:16]know how i thought whitey was spelled guys today's kind of the spelling episode a lot of people are

[63:19]going to refer to this one as a spelling episode but don't call me whitey i thought the guitars

[63:26]were just out of this world i i got to like the last 45 seconds but even you can hear it here

[63:31]we talked about this with the all-number

[63:33]it feels like the guitars are talking to you like they're using words oh yeah no my doesn't it feel

[63:37]like a conversation with the guitar yeah my son asked me which which person was singing in that

[63:42]voice like we're listening to this and he was like no no i like that one where they sing with

[63:45]like the chipmunk voice which person is singing that one because like we're showing pictures of

[63:49]sly and the family stone like check this out he's like which one is singing in that voice

[63:52]isn't aren't they using one of those peter frampton boxes there yeah i think so right

[63:57]they have to right because there's a okay i was gonna say if he's just doing that with a guitar

[64:01]that blows my mind

[64:03]yeah okay good uh i want to take you higher this is a true psychedelic song one of their

[64:14]favorites to play in concert i think this band might have the best intros we've done

[64:20]i picked all the beginning of the songs i gotta tell you guys when i was a sophomore in high

[64:24]school i played in the band for the show choir and we did this song and i was really fucking

[64:32]good i won't let anybody tell me different i was great playing this song what was your part in the

[64:36]choir what was the trombone no i played in the band for the choir yeah you were burying that

[64:42]playing take you higher i buried the bone somewhere that would be a fun song to play

[64:45]you're right do it and you know what i want to take you higher and this is going to be a little

[64:50]bit of a thing see if you can see if you can find the theme i have for today's show there was a song

[64:54]recorded the same year called i want to take you higher by a little band known as uh ike and tina

[65:00]turner oh and it whereas i want to take you higher got up to 38th on the list the tina turner

[65:07]ake turner version got up to 34 the same year it came out and did better wow oh and i see why this

[65:15]song is much better it's tighter yeah it just sounds like you think this is better oh tina

[65:22]singing this yes yeah i mean it's so good but it just would suck to be like again it'd be

[65:30]like us having a podcast and something comes out with the same exact episode but just

[65:33]i don't know somehow better maybe more scatman bits where he's driving a boat

[65:37]the one thing i heard on this one is definitely the influence for one of the most popular video

[65:44]game sound bites in the history of video games rob can you pull up the sound bite oh sure

[65:48]oh yes yeah it's technically boom lock the lock on this but actually the guys who are making nba jam

[66:00]one of the producers was listening to a lot of the family stone yes and he told the guy who was in

[66:06]there doing the audio that you should try just saying boom shakalaka and he goes like i don't

[66:10]even know what that means and he goes just do it trust me and they put it in there and it became

[66:14]like the famous thing in nba jam so good boom so you're telling me that boom shakalaka comes from

[66:22]sly and the family stone and the band is named chimba wamba we learned both those facts today

[66:27]this is blow by fucking by mind blown

[66:30]this probably isn't earth shattering either but uh that that outcast was probably listening to

[66:34]these guys but rosa parks they they must be they must have lifted that for the

[66:38]i agree that and the chamber wamba stuff both equally interesting and

[66:47]mind-blowing i mean this is a is this the first psychedelic podcast if you think about it think

[66:52]about what we've talked about today i would argue this is a fake podcast i'm pretty sure we

[66:56]specifically had one that you called a psychedelic podcast

[66:59]i'm pretty sure we specifically had one that you called a psychedelic podcast

[67:00]this song is called somebody's watching you and it's terrible

[67:08]and the thing is sly and the family stone the good songs are so good and the bad songs are so good

[67:15]bad the bad songs are terrible on this album it is like whiplash listen to these lyrics

[67:19]games are to be played with toys etc okay i'm just gonna stop right there they use the term

[67:25]etc in a song that's crazy shady as a lady in a mustache

[67:29]there's like yeah i mean that's kind of like a that's kind of a crappy thing to say now

[67:33]jumping forward to like 245 or something put it near the end a little bit let me see

[67:39]245 let me try it 245

[67:44]oh see i like this part though there's a little bit of i think it's an organ in the background

[67:56]yes you're right i was actually reading our favorite artist's back

[67:59]actually has an organ that's influenced by sly and the family stone his song sissy neck

[68:04]sampled the song life and and a organ from that but check out the organ on this back song

[68:10]oh yeah nice what the fuck russell so that is a sample of life by sly and the family stone

[68:19]so when it comes to sampling sly and the family stone with the badass organ groove

[68:23]who did it better beck did it better so russell heard a part at the end of that song and just

[68:29]goes back he's just like that like it's like a it's like a weird rain man thing where he's like

[68:35]better get on that the people at songfacts.com are like jesus there's so many more back searchers

[68:41]than there have ever been ever before this is outrageous uh all right when all you got is a

[68:47]hammer everything's a nail this and again this is just the start of the song listen to sing a simple

[68:52]song

[68:52]oh

[68:59]the bass on this one it's this one technically you have to be referred to as a groove yes

[69:04]in fact russell this song is so good that it inspired many people to cover it okay so this

[69:14]is the second song where we're going to go through some covers of sing a simple song

[69:17]first one ike and tina turner

[69:21]but she changed all the lyrics to bold soul sister

[69:27]and stuff

[69:28]sounds like the meters and this is almost not fair like i can see the turner we're like just

[69:35]they were they had a different goal i mean i don't talk about ike but listen to this song

[69:38]it's good no it's not as good as sing a simple song this one fails the

[69:45]rob test not as good however so then next up okay we go to one of their biggest hit songs

[69:52]in fact this is a hit single prior to this album number one billboard hit everyday people

[69:58]another groove russell

[70:00]this is one of my all-time if i started a hundred song lists like matt scott this might be on there

[70:07]for me yeah how does it not bring a smile to your face every time right

[70:11]i mean his voice is so good the music is so good and you know who else thought it was so good

[70:18]eddie vetter dolly parton what

[70:22]oh no i'm gonna play the cover and you guess the band i'm gonna play the cover and you guess the

[70:28]band i'm gonna play the cover and you guess the band i'm gonna play the cover and you guess the band

[70:28]okay

[70:28]i mean she sounds great she always sounds great sounds great

[70:32]i think musicians love this song because they're like songs do change lives

[70:38]okay name this band

[70:42]this sucks by the way

[70:46]close i'm gonna give you a hint watching your ass jiggle on that table will permanently scar me

[70:56]i'd do anything for it

[70:58]i'd fight a steak dinner

[70:59]oh no

[71:00]and whisper sweet

[71:00]and as you can tell for the notes i once again just copied all the text messages

[71:06]i may need to see the booty

[71:08]uh you're 50 times hotter in person and so am i

[71:11]yeah body versus absurd so good

[71:13]then probably the most famous version of this at least in my life

[71:19]yep

[71:20]yeah this is what i bought this i bought this whole cd just for this track well that mr wendell right

[71:26]mr wendell

[71:27]so good

[71:28]here brother man have two

[71:30]i mean now like this is such a good problematic too like this is a little bit preachy and like

[71:38]i arrested development like kind of rocked my world when they first came out they were great

[71:44]yeah and then there's a band that covered this song and you'll never guess who it was

[71:51]and it came out three years later it's ike and tina turner

[71:57]god she could sing though

[72:01]got a little more space to it

[72:03]that was her thing right they were like an r&b review they were like on the road every night

[72:08]playing live right so they had to play stuff people wanted to hear

[72:10]i mean i love you know everything he was like a huge musician like he was a big time guitar

[72:18]player for a very long time right like he was well known as a kind of a pioneer in himself

[72:23]i'm telling you he did a lot of bad things guys these songs are so good everybody's covering them

[72:27]everybody's going crazy with it you missed pearl jam i mean pearl jam covers it all the time you

[72:32]miss pearl jam rob that's okay we won't hold it against you that one's so good because it's got

[72:36]a lullaby in it remember this was on the lullaby list oh yes that's right i totally forgot what

[72:41]you're the baker yeah that's yes again then russell was that a fairy tale fairy tale episode

[72:48]that was a fairy tale right wasn't that a fairy tale that you're talking about

[72:50]those are my favorite or fairy tale they're different with hobgoblins

[72:57]you guys got to check out so we earlier we were talking about the boom shakalaka it's kind of just

[73:02]these like random sounds right it's not words and we've talked with matt before like matt doesn't

[73:06]even care about the lyrics he just wants to like what is the feeling it's given him what's the

[73:10]sound and so there's another one of these in here where they're using nonsense lyrics rob check this

[73:14]out check this time cue out is it this one yeah just give it a second

[73:20]are they saying scooby-dooby-doo what is that

[73:27]wait this is pre scooby-doo i i read that scooby-doo came out just after this but some

[73:35]people think it was inspired by a song by frank sinatra who used scooby-doo on strangers in the

[73:42]night he is doobie doobie do but these guys on two songs sounds like a good idea kind of

[73:49]bundles of nonsense syllables so i thought we could do a list of the greatest songs ever

[73:54]featuring nonsense oh that's great this is great

[73:57]it's a top five pearl jam song

[73:58]hey rob yes you can do as much scat banding on this list as you want because the scat man was

[74:09]b-bop bopping right he would be bop bop bop and it is true that if the scat man can do it uh

[74:15]so can you so and i'm looking up scat man lyrics so i can make more jokes later thank you was

[74:20]1955 i think we've talked about this guy maybe once before this is little richard tootie fruity

[74:24]oh sorry i was

[74:27]looking at my scat man stuff i was totally distracted this is my bad

[74:29]nonsense lyrics right there right yes

[74:37]you know what's so funny though i don't even think about

[74:40]is being nonsense but it is it's just i've said it so many times in my life i mean honestly i

[74:47]say a lot bamboo more than most people i would guess i read it was his verbal rendition of drum

[74:53]patterns and i think rolling stone in april 2012 called that referring to a song called

[74:56]refrain the most inspired rock lyric ever recorded oh my god i guess it's so good it's

[75:02]it's crazy listening to little richard it's just crazy also his clips on youtube incredible like

[75:08]watching live just amazing i also read that prince and sly stone were also very heavily

[75:15]influenced by james brown jimmy hendrix and little richard in their style yeah oh yeah i can see that

[75:21]for sure all right next song on the list uh this is shirley ellis the song is called the name game the

[75:26]name game everybody do tony

[75:30]you know there's some kids you know there's some kids conceived of this song right

[75:40]like you know there's some kids conceived of this song it's popular enough where it was playing

[75:45]while kids were conceived

[75:46]right and then like oh let's do chuck next you know i actually read erin that you're right on

[75:56]used to amaze the audience by taking requests for the name game in concert but whenever someone

[76:01]asked for chuck she had the good sense to ignore those people i just think somebody heard tony tony

[76:06]bo boney and they're like hmm she's got a good idea we should do that and then and then i mean

[76:11]it would be tough though if you if your kid was being bored you're like what name are we gonna

[76:15]pick i mean there's just you have to go through the name you're like well shirley shirley bo

[76:26]your name right now russell do your name without even thinking about it do the name game on your

[76:29]name russ russ bo bus banana fanna fo fuss he is not going to cuss russ erin erin bo baron banana

[76:39]fanna fo farin me my mo erin erin yes isn't me my mo baron yeah i missed it i missed it

[76:46]god you suck me out for what are we doing i'm looking up lyrics i what are we doing

[76:51]it's that q-tip documentary we're talking about that q-tip

[76:56]uh matt matt fo is so fat banana vanna bolat

[77:01]the my mo he hates cats oh this is amazing rob rob rob bob banana fanna fo me my mo mob rob

[77:11]listen this is amazing that that song is a hit you had that you had that that was too good we did it

[77:19]it was not good like i will not listen to any of this again but she has a hit song that has that

[77:24]it's crazy she

[77:26]also do you guys remember we've talked about this artist once before shirley ellis you remember when

[77:30]we talked about her we talked about the name game our person not the name game but she had a

[77:35]different song that was even a bigger hit it was the hand clapping song we did the best song ever

[77:40]with hand claps and she had the hand clapping song what's the hand clapping song she was a

[77:45]novelty you have to pull that one up a novelty hit person hand clap look at those look at that

[77:51]big you like that all that i know all caps

[77:53]i can't believe he all caps

[77:56]this song is called clap pat clap slap

[78:01]yes remember this one yes

[78:05]monkey your monkey got choked she's got some jams that's a good song they must have been like

[78:17]listen you're gonna do what and she's like it's a name game you say

[78:21]you say a name they say banana fan and part way through the song i'm gonna explain how you do the

[78:24]game in the song and they're gonna be like listen we didn't think your clap song was gonna be big

[78:28]and we were fucking wrong about that so we will let you do whatever you want like yeah i bet she

[78:34]had some real bad ideas though later don't you think she's like let's do our favorite kind of

[78:37]potatoes a song about potatoes then she's like mashed baked scale see it's not good that's my

[78:43]point it's not good you guys just showed me how bad it is shirley ellis shame on you

[78:46]next song on the list we've talked about our favorite bass man before that was

[78:51]the guy from uh the boys to men who i may be dead we don't really know or has some sort of problem

[78:56]but this song next song on the list is by johnny symbol the song is called mr bass man check this

[79:01]one out yes

[79:07]you know what

[79:20]would you say that this was this is kind of a kent herbeck to me

[79:26]i mean this is the first bass man i've ever heard

[79:29]matt would you say that that band reminds you of a band you

[79:35]when i think of bass man you know who i think of

[79:39]who do you think of crash test dummies there's only

[79:44]man if the crash test dummies did a name game what do you think that would sound like

[79:50]ross she is a boss who wouldn't go and cuss with the puss out of his bus

[80:01]i'm starting to realize i don't think i don't think they finally made him

[80:08]this podcast turned into robbie and way too high

[80:20]aaron couldn't quite explain it he always just showed up on friday

[80:28]next song on the list we were talking about chumbawamba i believe this band beat chumbawamba

[80:37]for the number one hit in 1997 it's oh man this thing was everywhere

[80:42]listen to those dad said syllables

[80:47]listen to those heartbeats these kids sound

[80:50]good man

[80:56]it's a this i gotta say guys looking back actually a bop yeah it's a bop right if you're like number

[81:03]one in 12 countries you're at a wedding and this came on you'd hit the dance floor

[81:06]vh1 called it one of the the 20th greatest song of the 90s what are your guys thoughts on that

[81:12]is that one of the 20 best songs of the 90s that's what well it's like call me maybe i always makes

[81:18]all these lists i mean it's like the same thing

[81:20]like give me a the 20th best song of the 90s i don't know this 20th best okay well i can think

[81:25]of a couple songs that are i would say pretty good and let's see i think so and i can think

[81:36]of another 90s song that i really enjoyed too but i would say number three i would say that

[81:44]number three i think it's really good

[81:50]i have to say so i believe sly stone has a brother and sister in the band is that right that is

[81:57]correct so the brothers the hansons were all brothers and they must have been inspired by

[82:01]sly and the family stone check out the cover they did i think this is higher check out this cover

[82:05]they did of sly and sly stone everybody's covering them everybody's covering them russell we should

[82:10]combine forces what the hell instrument is that i don't know but that's like a cheap keyboard that's

[82:18]adult hansen's cover

[82:20]and sly and the family stones they must have been given some props to an amazing band i mean i like

[82:24]the i like the bass line it sounds like thriller or something there's russell in the crowd oh play

[82:29]umbop i want to hear umbop it's the 20th best song of the 90s turn this shit off this is not

[82:35]very good right i didn't say it was better i just know you did it but i'm just saying like

[82:40]that's kind of the first time i've heard a cover like all right maybe leave it

[82:44]russell's hiding a record he bought back in his shells what did russell show us that

[82:49]oh my god it's the hansen record with that song on it he's embarrassed he liked it he bought it

[82:55]now he's embarrassed he said it was no good last song on the list featuring nonsense syllables this

[82:59]is lady gaga bad romance

[83:01]russell i was wishing she said um yeah yeah in this one like i imagine she said um yeah yeah

[83:11]of course russell back in 2011 sly stone actually said he wanted to work with lady

[83:19]gaga he said all these guys are playing all these amazing songs from the past

[83:23]lady gaga let me come in and play and pay me if you like it he's famous for threatening to come

[83:29]back and then never actually do like never actually working like he's been like been that

[83:34]way for decades right like oh sly's working with somebody on something that never happens like

[83:38]sly and d'angelo are gonna do a record no never gonna happen oh oh oh geez it'd be amazing wouldn't

[83:43]it like wouldn't be incredible but russell i gotta tell you right now great list was another

[83:47]brood of the smith or smith or brood

[83:49]that was nonsense russell because it was a top five nonsense list i've ever heard

[83:53]now i was i have to admit russell okay it pains me to admit this but i was distracted during your

[83:59]list because i had pulled up a lyrics sheet yeah for a song called uh scatman which is a song by

[84:05]scatman john and i was reading through and it just reminded me of when uh they checked in it

[84:13]turns out he'd also sent out some uh what do you call it morse code messages right

[84:17]yeah and this came out from scatman john he said

[84:19]check out my message to you as a matter of fact don't let nothing hold you back

[84:24]if the scatman can do it brother so can you and then google is taking the time to write out

[84:29]i might put this into a text translator and do it for our next uh

[84:37]i like that rob imagines google as a human who's writing things like google's google sat down

[84:43]at the scroll and took their papyrus and wrote this out

[84:48]somebody wrote that paul

[84:49]hold on wait reverse five seconds what did they say there oh go back eight i missed it

[84:54]employee i love how like employee number four google was a typist that only used their left

[84:59]finger on the shift and they haven't found a way to lay that person off that person is rich

[85:04]you know what i could write this down i bet i almost know this whole song i hear you all ask

[85:09]about the meaning of scat and the professor and all i can tell you is when you're sleeping the

[85:13]saints are weeping because of the things you call dead haven't yet had the chance to be born

[85:19]i'm the scat man it's kind of poetry

[85:21]it's not too weird yet guys this is not too weird this is fine

[85:32]russell's so mad okay okay here we go oh he really is mad sex machine i was i was googling

[85:43]chumba wumba lyrics so here's the here's the deal that song everyday people is so good

[85:48]so good how would you follow that up on the album well how about a terrible song

[85:53]extended jam that is kind of meandering oh my god i gotta say i was really disappointed in this

[86:00]for some reason i got it in my head it was gonna be that song love machine i'm just a love machine

[86:05]oh yeah and i won't work for nobody but you and then it wasn't that song and it bummed me out

[86:12]this just seems like a this is like a take a break and go have sex song i guess like it's

[86:18]like oh you don't have to listen and you can like go do some sex and then come back for the

[86:22]end of the album is that what you tried to do when you listen to it this week yeah it hasn't worked

[86:27]out yet yeah not there yet but it's like a good idea right i think this is a good sign to go and

[86:31]have sex too too yeah oh tony now that makes you know what that makes me think of mama mooney tony

[86:41]tony i'm stuck in the dryer tony mona mona tony i tried to get this nickel under the coffee table i'm

[86:48]stuck tony can you come help me out i love these moments when we're almost to the last song of the

[86:52]album and rob just can't can't bear to play he doesn't want it to be over you can make it if you

[86:57]try a bang another groove this is fun right this is fun this is total fun one now it might surprise

[87:11]you guess you know how popular their song was not popular

[87:18]somebody covered it the theme somebody covered it oh wait a minute no this is from 1958 the song

[87:26]we just listened to is from 1969 this was a cover it's a reverse for the end it covered this song

[87:32]from 1958 if you try what this is fantastic it's a reverse cover situation if you try oh my god

[87:44]you can now sly of

[87:48]course has full writing credit on this song as he does all the songs who is this rob gene allison

[87:54]and i and i and going through it i just want to tell you there is a cover of it so i lied this is

[87:59]a this is a double cover situation this is a double blind double cover i'm coming at you i

[88:04]said there wasn't a cover i said it was a reverse cover i would double down now there is no this is

[88:09]high low this is gambling you got to listen to this cover by buddy guy in 1980 you can make it

[88:18]late day buddy guy so so so good so guys you know what let's get into our most popular segment

[88:30]everyone's waiting it's time for just like this album we're going to take something really good

[88:35]and then add something not very good here at the end because rob thinks it's funny

[88:38]and i really do you guys know the chumbawamba lyrics they actually capitalize the words whiskey

[88:46]vodka lager and cider

[88:48]as if it's like a proper trademark what is up with that it's it's british it's why they're

[88:52]called chambawamba listen this album is at one uh i've just put 69 oh that was the year but this

[89:00]album was at 119 i was like this is album 69 jesus christ i'm stuck in a terrible time loop

[89:05]uh this is album 119 okay and again this podcast is not about the music we couldn't care less about

[89:10]the album we're not talking about the album we're talking about the list okay this is a podcast

[89:14]about the list we love this list we want to talk about the list is this album about the album

[89:17]this album stand by sly and the family stone okay it's got some nonsense words it's got some great

[89:23]songs it's got some mediocre songs does this deserve to be at number 119 okay if you think

[89:31]it does if it's perfect if they did a great job with the list okay it is a rolling well toned we

[89:35]think this is great if we think this should have been higher on the list okay that would be a

[89:42]rolling uh groan because we do not like it it should be higher

[89:47]i want to don't you nobody's looking at the screen anymore everybody's doing different

[89:51]things as i say this they're all kind of reading other stuff or whatever i'm not going to look

[89:54]i'm all in locked in should we have heard this earlier okay maybe 118 maybe 117 maybe 116 not

[90:02]115 i don't think it belongs there but 114 hmm now you got me thinking again 114 banana fan

[90:08]f014 could it be 113 that would be a rolling bone it should have been up higher on the list

[90:13]is it a rolling well toned rolling bone and rolling groan you know our episodes lately have been

[90:17]so long it's crazy uh aaron what do you think rolling well toned rolling bone or rolling groan

[90:22]the highs on this album are so high these grooves are just so good um i'm trying to remember back

[90:31]now till there's a riot going on um i feel like there's a riot going on as more consistent start

[90:35]to finish and as important as sly and the family stone are i just don't know if we need to hear

[90:42]them twice in the top 150 so i i'm going to i'm going to reluctantly

[90:47]have to give this a rolling groan all right if you don't remember uh there's a right going on

[90:53]had the hit song spaced cowboy it did have family affair which i like running away which is okay

[90:59]it's i don't know it's not as it's a and it's all eight minute songs uh russell what do you

[91:04]think rolling well toned rolling bone or rolling groan you know i think there's part of this album

[91:09]that's kind of like an uplifting album makes you feel good to listen to a lot of the songs

[91:13]to me there's a bunch of commercial hits on there you guys know i like those i've heard of stand

[91:17]i want to take you higher i love the song everyday people so for me i'm going to say

[91:21]it's rolling well toned i'll probably come back and listen to this again yeah it's a i think it's

[91:25]i think it's a superior album to there's a right going on i get there's a right going on might be

[91:29]better musically but it doesn't have this many bops on it matt what do you think rolling well

[91:33]toned rolling bone or rolling groan um first i just i have to get this out there so i don't get

[91:38]kicked off the pod by magic mike and all those oh my god is scatman still alive no no no you guys

[91:47]know and i fully admit that i do absolutely jack squat in preparation for this for this and russell

[91:53]and rob do a ton and russell does so much behind the scenes that we don't know about so him doing

[91:58]this so i never ever ever want to criticize russell's list oh you're gonna now but him

[92:03]missing yellow lead better by pearl jam is a nonsensical song i just i have to call it out now

[92:11]so so i don't get you know just because somebody will call it in but i do want to follow up on this

[92:16]i've never known if it's nonsense or if i just can't understand the words it actually

[92:20]it's nonsense yeah it's actual nonsense and it's so good

[92:24]so they just been playing a joke on people for this whole absolutely wow people have tried forever

[92:34]to say and he said i was just sitting on my you know you hear like porch and so i just sit on my

[92:38]porch just making the song so that's all i had to say i never want to criticize amazing nonsense

[92:44]syllables matt you're right wow so you but

[92:46]because you do so much more for this so i'm not criticizing anything but

[92:50]yes that was the top five list that was a really good list actually

[92:53]it was kind of your own thing but i loved it i would put yellow lead better on my thanksgiving

[92:59]playlist thanks guys yeah um okay so now i've taken everybody's time russell i love your list

[93:07]and i appreciate him so i please i hope me saying that's not stepping in honestly man it proved that

[93:12]you listened so i'm taking that as a win okay there you go i don't know what man's talking about

[93:16]actually i thought we i thought we did a list on the crash this dumb because i'm confused there

[93:20]was a number of great songs as you guys have said there's a number of just kind of i don't know

[93:25]what's going on songs and then so does this album as a whole need to be up here this high uh i'm

[93:32]with rosie i don't think it needs to be up this high there's some great songs everyday people

[93:36]great song covered by a million people love it that's that's a a top song not a top album so i'm

[93:46]a little bit lower on the list which means it has a higher number well unfortunately you guys are

[93:51]incorrect i hate to do it to you can't believe it hey listen well don't worry we have another 381

[93:57]to try to get this right so we're gonna nail it at some point this is a rolling now some people

[94:03]might say this is a rolling cover version because some people say there's a theme with some covers

[94:07]and maybe he didn't explore those themes as much as got distracted by them but it doesn't matter

[94:11]okay but that's not the ranking that's not the ranking today this is again for the second time a

[94:16]oscar nomination just like the last slide the family stone record it's the same thing

[94:20]this is i guarantee you we will see a movie in our lifetime about sly stone and it will win an

[94:27]oscar okay mark my words i said it last time i'm going to say it again we will see a movie about

[94:32]this guy it will win an oscar money in the bank i thought q-tip already did a documentary album

[94:39]but oh it did it with an oscar yes no i'm talking about sly story now like a

[94:46]modern day sly stone story we're going to watch it slice it's going to win the oscar

[94:49]and when you do all these beckline listeners who are like oh we don't like to be criticized or

[94:53]whatever i wasn't really listening they will call and say rob was right okay just like the typing

[94:59]thing and the shifting which i'm also going to say is people are totally right on so next week

[95:02]listen we don't have time for this next week oh god i wrote this down earlier too this is a dance

[95:09]this game like right after the scatman stuff so please i'm so sorry it's a dance move i actually

[95:14]invented in college with my prince costume

[95:15]we're doing the moon dance

[95:19]for that when you want to hear about the greatest albums the best

[95:25]i went outside to do a moon dance and i got bit by a stray cat it was a terrible night for it

[95:31]he doesn't know what he's talking about

[95:32]if you want to hear from guys who chat and then they get off track

[95:35]i've got the perfect podcast for you jack beck did it better you guys rob cut off that uh

[95:45]the name game song before we got to the last verse i thought i could share with you sing it if you will

[95:50]okay okay goes chambo whambo

[95:52]this is this is my favorite bit

[96:10]i agree when this comes on every time

[96:12]um

[96:15]funnel cloud i mean i'm still thinking about that tornado trying to suck me off

[96:22]the white t-shirt joke was good enough like the white yeah we're not so good

[96:27]we're not in kansas i think you have a solid enough base where you wouldn't take you off

[96:32]the ground rob you just stay there i would be able to be there i'd be locked down i'd like

[96:35]dorothy in the uh movie twister where it's they make it heavier so it sets down all the scientific

[96:40]instruments fly into the sky okay we're not just remembering the white shirt from that movie which

[96:44]is what aaron knows about the white shirt from that movie which is what aaron knows about the

[96:45]white shirt from that movie which is what aaron knows about the white shirt from that movie which is what aaron knows exactly what a perfect 100 pervert
