Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) (...of buying more yard inflatables!)

Beck Did It Better Podcast 2010
About this episodeHey Y'all,  In this episode, we talk about Kanye's post Taylor Swift interruption opus, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. We talk about the album, what led to him making it and why it is both funny and powerful.  We listen to a song about Russ selling knives, we take a nice voicemail from the BECK LINE (802 277 BECK.)  We give some creative criticism of our first apple podcast review/ fan we don't know and then we talk about our favorite holiday family traditions. For Matt, it is filling his yard with two dozen tasteful blow-ups (poop emoji.)  Russ gives us an unexpected list and we try to

[00:00]in 2020 four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by

[00:04]rolling stone magazine this resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the

[00:09]order and led us to making this podcast we are far from experts and we promise to do almost no

[00:13]research all opinions are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy beck did it

[00:19]better we are all the way up to album 17 this is 2010 kanye west's oh god there's so many apostrophe

[00:27]s's in that my beautiful dark twisted fantasy oh yeah welcome to k-rob k-r-o-b this is a song

[00:38]about when russell sold nine some people thought he was a dream killer and i heard somebody very

[00:45]smart would say that a good dream killer with a lot of knives would be freddie here he is all of

[00:51]the knives

[00:52]heard somebody say one

[00:56]you

[00:57]i hope they're home i'll ring the bell i call their phone got knives to sell

[01:09]i go inside i do my spiel my knives are sharp they're stainless steel yeah i cut that rope

[01:18]they try to bail i threaten them i need to sell they buy a bunch i'm relieved

[01:27]this is a pyramid scheme

[01:29]all i do every night all of these knives all of these guys

[01:43]yeah i'm sailing sailing all of these times i just i'm beside myself when you want to hear

[01:53]about the greatest albums of all time

[01:56]i've got the perfect podcast for you jack

[02:12]beck did it better all right what is up everybody this is beck did it better

[02:18]and now let's give a toast to the jerk offs let's give a toast to the assholes

[02:23]we've got russell minnesota how are you doing russell they say i'm the abomination of rob's

[02:29]podcast nation twisted fictions erin's sick feed addiction we'll gather around beckerhead zip it

[02:36]listen oh my god it's like i'm there rosie out in oak town how are you doing rosie we're in the

[02:42]presence of genius and i'm not just talking about kanye west i'm happy to be here thanks guys

[02:45]that's because uh he's he has a nude photo of albert einstein behind him

[02:50]i'm sorry

[02:51]i'm sorry i was just about to tell you guys like this week i'm going to try to really be clean

[02:57]okay so after that nude photo of albert einstein talk i'm done

[03:01]albert crushed those boudoir photos 50 60 years ago didn't he

[03:05]yeah exactly uh e equals m c okay uh matt in minneapolis why don't you say something

[03:12]while i get back to my joke about albert i'm going to think about it

[03:14]i'm uh just happy to be here rob i think you are absolutely wasting your talents trying to teach

[03:21]kids and so i don't know i think we need to take up a gofundme or something to get make sure that

[03:27]you uh get like a two-year hiatus go out to hawaii maybe uh just start laying some tracks down and

[03:34]yes you know my school will pay for a sabbatical and i wonder if i wrote down that i want to do

[03:39]parody songs over karaoke over you know korean karaoke tracks that i find on youtube by the way

[03:44]that's the best quality karaoke track i could find for this song it's not great if you really

[03:48]listen to it if you move to hawaii and start a

[03:51]your own your own new music thing would you let me be kind of like the nikki minaj on your tracks

[03:55]would you let me come on and do some intros and do some verses here and there russ when i think of you

[04:00]i the first person i think of usually is nikki minaj so i think that makes perfect sense to me

[04:03]her breasts are just slightly bigger than mine i don't quite have her you nailed that kind of

[04:10]guttural thing she does i was i was impressed i've been working on that all week i love it yeah

[04:14]you nailed it all right everybody shut up let's go to voicemail this is the beck line if you want

[04:19]to call the beck line go to 802-277-9000

[04:20]b-e-c-k and you normally don't spell the beck part that is actually makes it more confusing

[04:25]it's 802-277-2325 hey guys this is erin from minneapolis i wanted to call and say i love the

[04:34]podcast totally makes me laugh out loud i've been trying to decide if you guys are actually

[04:40]really funny or if i'm just immature or if erin's laugh is just so great that i'm cracking up all

[04:48]the time maybe it's a combination of those things

[04:50]but thanks for taking the time to do this it's providing me a much needed laugh during uh

[04:57]these weird weird times all right erin don't depress us at the end okay you were nice to us

[05:02]let's let's just leave it it's kind of annoying that erin uses his female voice to call it and

[05:07]leave voicemails like i i appreciate it erin like i know you enjoy the podcast but you gotta save

[05:13]that falsetto for for later down the road that idea is so funny that he's calling and he goes

[05:18]this is erin garage door desk

[05:20]what do you think though i do think what is it about our podcast that's so great okay so i just

[05:28]want to go through a quick list i think that yes we are funny because most of the time here we're

[05:32]trying to make each other laugh that's the number one goal of the podcast i believe but number two

[05:36]i think erin's laugh is a strong contender for the number one reason this podcast is funny

[05:40]we should do we should do an erin free segment sometime where i cut out all of erin's laughs

[05:45]and all you just hear is just me you know talking and then just dead air dead air dead air it would

[05:50]be a disaster if erin ever quit the podcast we would go have to get like a pete best or whatever

[05:55]that guy that replaced paul mccartney who was the guy who replaced mccartney when he got decapitated

[05:59]in the car accident billy shears billy shears if erin would ever leave the podcast because he he's

[06:04]got to stay in the garage for too long or something like that we would definitely have to go get a

[06:09]replacement erin's laugh i you know i have a lot of his laughs taped i can just play it anytime

[06:14]you don't need me anymore you got what you got what you need from me this is like this is like

[06:19]that movie inception people don't even know right now whether this is erin or it's just like

[06:22]recordings of recordings of recordings we're that far into the song yep sucks yeah see i mean like

[06:29]you can't tell who's who anymore but thank you for the very kind voicemail you know that was

[06:34]actually a really nice voicemail most of our voicemails make fun of us and that one was almost

[06:37]nice to us without a backhanded compliment we'll get there yes erin will get your check your check

[06:41]to your immediately for thank you for that my uh i think erin is a friend of my wife sarah's and i

[06:47]think everybody knows that erin is a friend of my wife sarah's and i think everybody knows that

[06:48]sarah has kind of told that i do a podcast you know it's kind of like uh well matt's kind of

[06:55]doing a podcast you know they all kind of you guys are pretty darn funny aren't you you know

[07:00]and i'm like well yeah that's what i've been trying to tell you rob's a genius rosie's dropping

[07:05]these laughs russell man he's got the knowledge and yeah we're we're we're fucking funny guys

[07:11]we're real let's just say it's fucking funny life podcast yeah so we did thanks thanks for

[07:17]listening erin we appreciate it

[07:18]all right so let's move on to our roland going actually you know what we should listen to that

[07:27]voicemail again we should just listen to that voicemail anytime we're getting down i'm just

[07:29]gonna play it again it's time to see what everybody's up to it's time for wait this

[07:39]isn't what's our this isn't our voicemail recording is it rob you don't start every

[07:43]voicemail with this do you i think i'm gonna change the voicemail to k rob i'm gonna

[07:48]i'm gonna switch it i like k rob i like k rob all right let's go rolling going who's got a who's got

[07:55]a real stinky one that we can start with so we can ignore it later in the podcast who's got the

[07:59]worst one okay i do i can tell you right now i have the worst one i want to talk about a review

[08:03]we got on itunes recently where somebody who we don't know wrote uh a lot of factual errors but

[08:09]i was laughing too hard to care and i just want to say to that person for taking the time to write

[08:13]that comment fuck off what are you talking about that's exactly what this podcast is that's exactly

[08:20]what this is rob you know sometimes we may make errors and we're willing to apologize we should

[08:24]give this person who who is the the commenter that left that comment uh it was uh michael small dick

[08:30]67 it was mike music 46 so yeah let's get you know what he's you're right let's apologize i mean we

[08:37]make we make errors once in a while aaron aaron doesn't always do his research apology from beck

[08:41]did it better i'd like to take

[08:43]this chance to apologize to absolutely nobody oh my beck does it better podcast

[08:49]oh yeah so i do like the fact that i think it was an episode ago i was begging if you don't

[08:57]know us and you're listening email us so we feel good somebody actually does it and they

[09:00]immediately make me mad by giving me any sort of feedback whatsoever i wasn't listening to some

[09:05]old episodes though thinking like what did i get wrong like what could have possibly been my error

[09:08]and i did mention on one episode that i do have a small penis as a joke and i think that's probably

[09:13]referring to but to mike's point i mean we don't promise anything less than what he just told us

[09:20]we are right we'll we'll listen to some songs we'll state some facts that we think are correct

[09:25]and you know it'll be pretty darn funny wait wait wait we're supposed to be trying to be correct on

[09:29]this i was just completely going off the rails not even close not even close yeah aaron's like

[09:33]wait we're supposed to tell jokes on this yeah i'm not yeah i'm not out here trying to be funny

[09:37]my guess is that comment came immediately after aaron got wilson pickett and and what's the other

[09:42]one wilson phillips wilson phillips confused

[09:45]we're the only we're the only podcast that says wilson pickett and then the other one

[09:52]and then that other wilson there's no way that voicemail came after that what was that a voicemail

[09:57]or a message that was an itunes review somebody took the time to like log in and review push the

[10:02]review there's no no chance in hell that review came after after matt screwed up offspring and

[10:08]oasis no chance no chance they probably didn't do it they probably didn't do it they probably didn't

[10:11]do it they probably did it after we said that prince would be a good ending soccer song and

[10:15]they were like uh factually incorrect sir thank you very much thanks for nothing clear the square

[10:19]yeah so dr small dick fuck off all right so the next the third thing i want to talk about is this

[10:24]uh the business i work for they have asked me on thursday five o'clock they want me to host

[10:30]the company-wide holiday party yeah and to do like the game the so of course it's not a fun

[10:37]holiday party it is a zoom holiday party and the head of the school who's brand new so this

[10:41]is a i would guess this school probably employs i believe it's called the school master at a school

[10:47]you work at you could be dropping you could be dropping the podcast all over this thing get some

[10:50]more listeners it actually is a headmaster headmaster rob works at a not a public school

[10:56]it works at hogwarts yeah it is it is a headmaster and i do wear a robe every day but they were like

[11:01]that's not why why do you do that and i was like wizards there's nothing underneath but they

[11:07]oh yeah that robe where i wear something underneath what are you a psychopath get out of here

[11:11]but he wants me to do this like a zoom game for the holiday party so my question is do you guys

[11:18]have any advice on what i should do to play like a game not i don't need a game i've got the game

[11:23]done but is there any advice for for me for hosting a holiday party for a whole company

[11:27]because you know me when i get nervous i tend to say things like dr small dick so i'm worried that

[11:32]i'm gonna get in major trouble my plan is to say something slightly offensive so they never ask me

[11:36]again like you know like oh let's wait until the legal votes are counted you know stuff like that

[11:41]how many people are going to be on the call rob uh i would guess there's going to be over 200

[11:53]on one zoom call how can you yeah i mean i would just the game i would just go drown myself in

[11:59]wine and not show up to that that seems impossible what is the game just gets done how can you

[12:03]possibly do that i'm gonna do this is what i do for a job i do games with large groups of people

[12:08]that's not a problem hundred oh yeah i've presented it to a bunch of people and i've presented it to

[12:11]this school before but it's going to be it's going to be the dumbest thing me because you

[12:15]can you imagine a zoom holiday party nobody is going to go first of all so it probably is just

[12:20]going to be me in the head of the school and then i'm gonna what was that guy's name jeffrey i'm

[12:24]probably going to pull it the whole time you say yes oh my god hold up all right between 200 people

[12:31]that's bound to happen with someone right someone's gonna be pulling a jeffrey jubin right

[12:35]somebody's out there 200 people somebody is jerking it somebody's tubing it right i think

[12:41]about that living in an apartment building all the time you know what i mean like it's not just me

[12:46]all right so i'll get into that

[12:51]okay guys but after that i promise please come here and out okay it's so nice

[13:00]orgasm with your upstairs neighbor right like you don't even know which one is

[13:04]rob i thought you weren't gonna drink on these episodes anymore i'm not that's the problem

[13:10]all the way off

[13:11]the rails already all right rolling going man how's it uh russell how's it going it's going

[13:16]great it's going great i don't know if you guys really get into the holiday spirit very often but

[13:20]for the first time you know this year you can't do all the walking tours of the lights that are in

[13:24]the cities but i went to the minnesota state fairgrounds the other night and they had a kind

[13:28]of a drive-through tour of all these holiday lights and it was really really cool and at one

[13:33]point they had like a purple lit up building they were playing prince music they had the purple

[13:38]symbol up on the wall it was super super cool but the coolness of it was really really cool

[13:41]the coolest thing about this was at the very end of it you got to the point where

[13:45]this was definitely playing it was

[13:49]mom and daddy i love the holiday lights but what's masturbating with a magazine

[13:56]yes every car stopped at that point in the tour it was very awkward it was just a lineup forever

[14:02]okay but so i started wondering we start going through and you get to the end and they have all

[14:08]the state fair foods where you can do a drive-thru so you can go get the mini donuts you can get the

[14:13]prano pup you can do all the state fair foods that you love and i thought i had such a good time but

[14:17]i'm wondering what is your guy's style when it comes to holiday lights uh i am i am a i okay i

[14:24]gotta think about how to say this i know that's even worse i am a white lights only guy um i i

[14:32]think that i don't think colored lights should be on trees i think white light looks better i think

[14:36]it just is a better look

[14:38]but i am pro all big christmas lights i think it's great as long as somebody else is doing it

[14:43]yeah exactly i don't want to be putting those things up is doing it and you're gonna have to

[14:47]edit this out but on the subject of white lights there is a mormon temple very close to my house

[14:52]in oakland and the mormon temple does a spectacular light show with some palm trees and such so we

[14:58]typically go to the mormon temple until someone in a t-length dress comes and talks to us and

[15:03]then we decide to bug the hell out of there but have you ever decided have you ever thought about

[15:08]reaching out to the mormon temple and say hey i'm a white lights only guy i'm a white lights only guy

[15:08]under your seats and being like wait a minute what are these tablets under here

[15:11]wait only i can read these tablets aaron you're sure that's not you're sure that's not a

[15:16]scientology building and it's not beck coming over to get rid of you is it oh that would be

[15:20]amazing there is a scientology building in san francisco that i walk used to walk by on my

[15:24]walks at work but i never stopped in but uh yeah in oakland we we go to the mormon temple to check

[15:28]out the uh the lights uh sadly the oakland zoo was going to do a lights uh display this year but

[15:34]we're shut down again but that's another topic for another time so i i think with kids i would

[15:38]go to like i would go to like the satanist light festival whatever they put on as long as it's

[15:43]entertaining to my kids for one night i'd be like fine whatever i don't care what the message is

[15:46]yeah right i mean wallace loves the you're uh mormon temple lights you're talking to

[15:50]a guy who's got i think currently i got 19 blow-ups in my front yard yeah i was gonna ask

[15:55]about that hold i saw that on instagram yeah we got so so we started out with like two this is

[16:02]four or five years ago i think mike with skalsky from uh monsters inc and like a darth vader i've

[16:07]even seen monsters

[16:08]okay so those are two great ones to start with definitely makes sense to me to blow up christmas

[16:13]of mike wachowski and darth vader moving on so then we started adding a couple more and last

[16:18]night or last year uh you know i try to buy twenty dollars or less that's what we stick to so i i got

[16:24]the boys to go to a home home depot with me after christmas and i said boys we gotta go we gotta go

[16:29]buy some uh blow-ups on on deep discounts we went we bought four of them i put them up in the

[16:35]what a dad okay what a dad

[16:38]so then this year we went we went right uh it must have been in october when menards first put

[16:47]their their uh their blow-ups out and so i went i'm like okay boys yeah let's go look and so we

[16:52]went there and they had some on discounts we bought three or four more what'd you get i came

[16:56]uh well we got a pig that's got a santa hat good choice got a perfect sense um let's see what else

[17:04]we get i'm saving the best but we got a duck that's got a santa hat on and then we got a poop

[17:09]emoji with a santa hat on so i got a three and a half foot poop emoji your boy's gotta love that

[17:17]right but i but but i brought him home and i put i was gonna put him up with where the all our

[17:22]christmas stuff is and so i put him up there and i kind of get up on the ladder and i look like oh

[17:26]shit i already bought four from last year so we've got like seven new ones this year so i had to go

[17:30]buy a new new extension cord i had to run some power from the backyard up front yes and uh yeah

[17:36]it's been great so last year we got a huge dad boner right now we're going to buy more extension

[17:40]cords oh yeah i love it one difference between back to the front yard yes oh god yeah one

[17:45]difference between me and matt i'm never running power from parts of the yard to other parts of

[17:50]the yard i i wouldn't even know how to do such a thing the neighbor's like why are all these

[17:54]extension cords plugged into my house i don't get it that's what we got 24 hours a day we got is

[17:59]we've got a uh we've got a

[18:00]uh uh spider-man that's hanging from the rafters and he's got like a like santa claus with a

[18:07]a bag of of gifts and so that that's pretty cool but to you know to your to your question

[18:12]um russell you know i think we we go every year on a light drive and look for

[18:16]you know cool houses with cool lights and to me there is nothing more boring than professionally

[18:23]put up lights and completely straight uh white lights that go uh along the roof of a house

[18:30]that just looks so perfect and clean that is unbelievably boring i had to east bloomington

[18:36]and to like old parts of egan and like in the southeast minneapolis where these people have

[18:42]had like their plastic santa clauses for 38 years you know and they've been having it there's nothing

[18:48]better than the people that just hammer their yard with old ass christmas decorations and have

[18:54]been doing it for years and that's the real christmas spirit not these you know but then

[18:58]this is it we have to retire

[19:00]the mean old daddy it's over it's over that's too nice forget it no no stop stop stop stop stop

[19:07]matt said last year he went and waited for the holiday to be over so he could get them on

[19:12]discount like he could have easily gone and bought like three really awesome things at full price

[19:17]and he didn't do that that's a mean old daddy i'm not saying he's not a festive mean old daddy but

[19:22]he definitely waited to save a few bucks all i know is that matt's kids for their in their um

[19:29]stockings get uh old valentine's candy that he also bought on discount he's like here you go kids

[19:34]yeah matt i can't believe that somebody with two dozen blow-ups would not like professionally

[19:38]done yards that's such a crazy thing so real quick matt real quick what does your wife think

[19:44]of the blow-up situation she's with you i if you i think you probably saw her picture on her

[19:49]instagram she's she uh posted a picture and put help me on it um pray for me or something like

[19:56]you know she is with you she would just like

[19:59]uh some white lights beautifully put just maybe so sprinkled around the bush the bushes a little

[20:05]bit and so but no so it's uh but the boys like i mean like you guys i think she probably brought

[20:10]the spider-man with the santic thing into the marriage like that was hers but then the poop

[20:14]emoji she was like that's too far yeah and so when we were putting it up you know people are walking

[20:18]by and people stop by our house all the time now and you know they're looking at stuff and people

[20:22]walk by like oh they're really great you know and the joke is like yeah you know when your kids are

[20:26]three you buy mike wiskowski's and you know what it's like you know you know you know you know you

[20:29]by the time they're eight you're buying poop emojis so it's kind of got we kind of got a nice

[20:33]little uh as the years go on here's uh here's where our kids are at rolling going aaron how's

[20:38]it going with you uh you guys it's it's up and down for me i'll be honest i um you know as we

[20:45]get to how filthy are you gonna get on this aaron geez yeah it's well i'm in i'm in my

[20:50]a little bit all your ups and downs be in bed yeah that's a good good choice man all right russ

[20:58]rolling

[20:58]all right

[20:59]hey our our game plan of interrupting aaron is falling straight into place tonight very well

[21:06]steamrolling aaron is wrong i don't want to be right sorry about that keep going i'm not i'm

[21:12]steamrolling baby uh i am um fully into the the holiday spirit but we've this is a topic

[21:18]we've discussed once or twice on the pod perhaps and as we get to the age that some of us are on

[21:23]this pod uh you start to look back at mistakes you've made in your life and i just i'm so

[21:29]upset with myself today about all of the cds that i gave away in my life uh my lady had this

[21:36]fantastic idea of uh giving her parents so she and her siblings went in on um buying 12 days

[21:42]of christmas cds for her parents because they still have this beautiful little boom box that

[21:47]they bring out at christmas time and play the cds in there and all they have right now is the

[21:51]rat pack christmas and like maybe a lori line cd and so the the job of shopping for the cds fell on

[21:58]me and i'm like i'm gonna buy a lot of cds and i'm gonna buy a lot of cds and i'm gonna buy a lot of

[21:58]cds and the world of compact discs is marvelous and it's a perfect format and i got rid of so many

[22:05]of them and i i just wish that i had them back and so i'm kicking myself a little bit about that even

[22:09]as i'm getting into the christmas spirit why do you say cds are the perfect format so i'm in the

[22:15]middle right now where i either do spotify or i play it through a speaker on my phone

[22:19]or some sort of bluetooth speaker or i use the record player but now i feel like i'm missing

[22:25]what yeah i'm never gonna listen to you guys again on this i'm getting rid of

[22:28]the wrong thing or what don't get me wrong i love my vinyl and i would never i would never

[22:32]give my records away but cds are small ish they're durable the sound quality is really good like why

[22:40]did i give them away like it like i had maybe three bookshelves full and i could have like to

[22:45]be fair is the sound quality is it better on a cd than just listening to it on a phone or a speaker

[22:52]from your phone uh no not if you don't have i mean like if you have a perfect system probably but

[22:58]okay so russell's intense line of questioning really wore aaron down there he really he folded

[23:03]like a cheap suit pretty quickly there i impeach aaron's credibility on the subject very quickly

[23:08]so you love cds are they very good uh no

[23:11]all i remember about cds is that they seem to get scratched

[23:16]all the time i just miss mine so much i had such a good collection

[23:20]hey if you have a 50 record player those also seem to get scratched all the time so it goes both ways

[23:28]so aaron's rolling going is that he and i i have to say aaron when you said you know what i'm really

[23:32]down lately i thought maybe as you know about and you were like i wish i had some cds but

[23:36]but aaron have you got rid of all your cds because literally i've been going through the process like

[23:41]am i supposed to pitch all these and i bet we have a lot of listeners that have cds that are

[23:45]thinking should i pitch these why should people be keeping them i did i got rid of all of mine

[23:49]when we moved to the west coast i maybe have 10 or 12 left and put that shit in the microwave

[23:54]you turned it on a high for three minutes and let it roll

[23:58]i think they're nice because the same same concept as putting on a vinyl lp

[24:02]you put that thing in you can't be distracted you can't change what you're listening to like if i

[24:08]if i start streaming something on spotify and i say like oh maybe this isn't the perfect vibe i

[24:13]was looking for then i go back and change but if you put a cd in you just have to let the cd run

[24:18]and then you live with it and maybe you you find something about that album that you didn't realize

[24:22]before unless you got a six disc changer in the back of your ford thunderbird 92 style yeah

[24:27]yep i listen and then you're like i'm definitely going to change these six cds through my high

[24:33]school career not have the same six in the whole time for four years you're listening to rex and

[24:37]effects for all dave matthews man yeah bush 16 stone and exactly no doubt yeah so that was me i

[24:46]just was feeling a little bit chagrined because i gave away cds when i shouldn't have matt rolling

[24:51]going how's it going with you uh good i finally listened to one of our episodes

[24:55]huge mistake

[24:57]downloading at least or not did you leave an itunes review can you rip that to a cd

[25:02]you're not magic mike 46 are you because if we are we're going to replay that apology right in your

[25:07]face no it was not accident i was listening i think i was finishing up uh some other thing

[25:13]and it just rolled into it and i just figured i'd let it go for the next hour while i was

[25:18]to the prince episode and and you know i i got through uh russell's rowing going and i roll and

[25:27]going and i realized that i'm kind of a follower you know russell started out this uh this whole

[25:33]quest of looking to listen to 500 greatest albums of all time like yeah i'm in okay and russell

[25:38]decided to start buying records and now hey yeah that's a great idea so russell i just want to say

[25:43]thank you for all my entertainment the last uh four five six months here because i'm pretty much

[25:49]just riding your coattails so thanks for bringing me along in the ride thank you that's such a

[25:52]heartwarming thing i appreciate it man and now the last thing i'll say now go for it

[25:57]the uh i got my target albums and you know they're like the equivalent of have you ever gone to

[26:03]a uh an outlet mall and try to buy like nikes and like you think you're getting like the high-end

[26:08]nikes i've gone to an outlet mall once with rosie in college and we went we bought cheap basketball

[26:13]jerseys they had garbage jerseys that were there it was like a reggie miller jersey with no name

[26:18]or number on the back well it was 31 pacers like i don't know how many 31 pacers they were selling

[26:27]but i think i went to the numbers on the front we would make a few of our buddies we would take an

[26:31]annual trip to the champs outlet store to buy knockoff jerseys like where this the company

[26:36]screwed them up and they were selling them for three or four bucks but keep going also because

[26:39]there was a mcdonald's that's the same freeway exit so you could get mcdonald's and a jersey

[26:45]in the same area erin i don't know what you're talking about i eat healthy food i don't eat fast

[26:49]food like you do so let's just keep this on the let's keep it on the tracks what is this mcdonald's

[26:54]you're talking about uh can you imagine now as a as a 40 something year old or however old

[26:59]mad is i think he's like 35 can you imagine 30 having a day where you go with some buddies

[27:05]to an outlet mall to buy ripoff knockoff basketball jerseys and then eat at mcdonald's

[27:10]that would be my the greatest day i've had in the last year not even close well my last 17

[27:16]dates have disagreed with that theory but that's okay no seriously this jr.

[27:24]rider jersey it's awesome it'll look great on you yeah how do you know it's jr rider it's

[27:30]timberwolves is spelled wrong on the front of it it's number 34 and a half this this is the

[27:36]kind of school i teach in i asked the kid in the class i was like what what jersey is that on your

[27:39]wall back there and he's like oh that's a signed kevin durant supersonics jersey i was like i told

[27:45]him i go if i was going to steal one thing out of your house that would be it i would go in there

[27:49]and steal that i was like that's so sweet russell i think taking a date to

[27:54]an outlet mall that's a great way to spend a date you go shopping whatever they buy it's not going

[27:58]to be too expensive and like you said there's a mcdonald's right there it's no problem my appetizers

[28:02]scheme worked out with jenny maybe maybe somebody watching you pound down 40 chicken mcnuggets is

[28:08]the way to go how do you put together an appetizer platter at mcdonald's it's got to be what that

[28:12]well if they do 24-hour breakfast it's hash browns yeah so you go hash browns i think fries

[28:17]would count uh i'm probably going to get some emails about that but i definitely think fries

[28:20]would count as an appetizer platter we're gonna go chicken nuggets nuggets probably count right

[28:23]and i would take a flail fish and throw away the bread oh i like it yes we just said to me like hey

[28:29]i'm doing the flail fish but i'm i'm gonna go healthy style no bread on this we're just gonna

[28:34]lettuce wrap i brought my own lettuce my own head of lettuce and i'm gonna wrap around this fish

[28:38]filet i noticed that when you gave me the fish play with no bread you also took off the cheese

[28:42]uh excuse me okay and the fact that i know the fish has cheese is now giving you guys pause

[28:47]you're really thinking about that no i've never had one i've always wondered like is the cheese

[28:51]and the filet of fish good it's always kind of tripped me out i've never tried

[28:53]it is it good uh i i don't i have no idea i'm not ordering a filet of fish at mcdonald's i'm

[28:58]not a total psychopath i you know speaking of fish sticks let's get into this album

[29:03]uh we are talking about kanye west dark twist my beautiful dark twisted fantasy and i'm not

[29:09]going to be able to say that uh title over and over uh this came out in 2010 this is our second

[29:14]def jam artist in a row and i'm going to say this one thing it says on wikipedia that i want to take

[29:18]issue with right away is that this spent 115 weeks on the billboard top 200.

[29:23]now have you ever heard of the billboard top 200 is that a thing i thought it was a billboard 100

[29:29]no but like there's there's things like the black album by metallica and like uh dark side of the

[29:35]moon or uh led zeppelin 4 something like that they they've they've been on it since the conception of

[29:43]the of the list and stuff like that so the yeah it's a real thing but there's these albums that

[29:47]yeah that seems like kind of cheating to me but basically uh in 2009 and we're gonna do other kanye albums so

[29:53]i'll get into like the history of kanye i know everybody this is their least favorite part this

[29:56]is where they're like 15 seconds 15 seconds 15 seconds including me when i'm editing this thing

[30:00]but i think this album is really inspired by kanye in 2009 at the mtv music awards

[30:08]yo taylor i'm really happy for you i'm gonna let you finish

[30:14]but beyonce had one of the best videos of all time

[30:17]one of the best videos of all time so this

[30:23]little outburst he claims later was from him um working to art and kind of having a meltdown

[30:28]and he got so much blowback because this this kanye is this is the one thing i knew about kanye

[30:33]before this album president even called president even called him a jackass i believe after that

[30:37]right yeah obama off the record called him a jackass which is wild so yeah i don't know if

[30:43]you properly uh taylor swift won an award she's going up to accept it he runs up after her and

[30:50]and kind of steals the mic when she's going to give her speech right right that's that's the setup okay

[30:54]yeah i mean it's it's pretty much like the worst thing you could do yeah at award ceremonies to

[30:59]interrupt some woman who just has had like a highlight of her career thus far you know and

[31:04]she and and to do that everybody there goes the last 10 dates i went on no wonder that didn't

[31:08]no wonder it didn't happen between the outlet stores and this i've got to re-change the way

[31:13]i'm approaching this stuff oh my god oh my god the idea of you having some woman in mcdonald's

[31:17]she's ordering a filet-o-fish you run up behind her go wait a minute wait a minute i'm going to

[31:20]let you finish where's the cheese where's the cheese yeah these fries are the best fries of

[31:24]all time but here's the thing is that after that after that interruption he basically it was a

[31:28]media nightmare for him he went to hawaii and just sat there and basically recorded this album

[31:34]and that's why i think this album and i like i said i've never listened to kanye west the highs

[31:39]on this album are super high and the lows on this album you can tell when he's when he wants to make

[31:44]a song that is about how he's feeling like how fame is kind of eating him up he's able to pull

[31:50]it off like crazy like i was blown away um by the album but i am going to say this and then i'll be

[31:55]done i the last thing i want to talk about i think the perfect way to sum up this album is to just

[32:00]look at the cover photo the cover photo the the album cover the cover photo fucking idiot the

[32:06]album cover well it's a photo of a painting so maybe the album cover is the funniest fucking

[32:11]thing to me of all time it is a painting of kanye west naked with a phoenix with no arms

[32:19]and a polka dot tail and wings like on top of him and as if they're having sex but it's blurry like

[32:25]that bob dylan cover on the amazon music it's literally pixelated like you're watching some

[32:30]japanese porno or something it's like straight up pixelated and that's a deep cut and i do see

[32:35]a big thumbs up and i'm two thumbs up um but yeah but the cover is so funny oh god he basically told

[32:45]the artist like i want a cover that's going to get me banned in walmart that's the goal

[32:49]like i want a cover that's so controversial and if you look at this cover it has to be the

[32:54]least controversial it's like if a fourth grader discovered sex and then drew a picture of it

[32:58]and you're like where are the arms on that person he's like i don't know why does this one have a

[33:02]polka dot tail i don't know why does it have wings because it rules you'd be like yeah this is the

[33:06]weirdest thing i've ever seen but i i mean this album is probably going to go down as one of the

[33:10]greatest r&b albums of all time probably the greatest album of the 2010s and it's interesting

[33:14]how much of the last albums we've heard on like like the public enemy i hear

[33:19]so much of that coming through on this album but it's a still it's that same idea of like the

[33:24]maximum amount of sound coming out for a hip-hop song does that make any sense can you guys help

[33:29]me out i'm done it does i i agree with you i think that uh i think kanye and hank shockley

[33:34]were kindred spirits i think the biggest uh thing that that to me draws the parallel between kanye

[33:40]and public enemy is the willingness to go outside of r&b and soul for samples so obviously there

[33:47]are some you know kanye made his bread and butter on soul samples and i think that's a big thing

[33:49]i think that's a big thing that i think kanye made his bread and butter on soul samples in the early

[33:50]2000s and then he got to this album and a lot of what people talk about is that you know then he

[33:56]started sampling apex twin and there he got bonnie vera on the album and there's the the famous king

[34:03]crimson sample that we'll get into so i think uh and hank shockley did the same thing and i thought

[34:07]about this a lot when we recorded public enemy when russell talked about the flash gordon theme

[34:11]and queen doing the flash gordon theme i really think and we'll talk about when we get to power

[34:16]i really think that when when he did the king crimson sample he got the famous king crimson sample

[34:19]for power he must have been thinking of of uh terminator x uh at the edge of armageddon or

[34:25]whatever the name the track name is but i didn't i didn't realize i didn't realize jeremy shockley

[34:30]the the former tight end for the the giants was a part of this album i just thought that that short

[34:35]that short stay with the giants but i'm very impressed with your knowledge there aaron

[34:39]i also think of him as playing for the saints i apologize yeah okay so let's get our wires

[34:45]crossed here but i think you're right jeremy i i want to say two things one you bring up

[34:49]bonnie bonnie veer one of my most humiliating times as an adult ever is i teach middle school

[34:54]kids and i called the band bond iver well i'm about to delete half my notes for the second

[35:00]half of the girl the girl there was a girl in class and i'll never forget who it was there's

[35:05]this girl in class who looked at me and with the most condescending voice of all time goes

[35:08]it's pronounced bonnie veer and i was like oh my god and it just cut me right to the book like i

[35:14]had to go home i like took a sick day i was like oh i just got crushed by a student it's terrible

[35:18]i would

[35:19]i would expel that kid the reason i bring up the cover and i want to be really is that this album

[35:24]i was shocked by how funny it is because all i know about kanye is kind of his reputation

[35:29]and the taylor swift this album came out right after i had uh yeah one of my kids was like is

[35:34]this is like right in the middle of me having kids i have no knowledge of any of this music

[35:37]the cover to me is so funny this album made me laugh out loud i don't know like five times even

[35:44]before chris rock does this monologue that does this bit in the middle of it that made me laugh my

[35:47]ass off here's the

[35:49]example if i just was walking down the street and i said to you those that are trying to blackball me

[35:53]forget about two things my black balls that's funny that's legitimately funny don't know what

[35:59]rob looked like also would think that's funny uh but those are no they are what they are actually

[36:06]they are actually like that i have some sort of weird pigment thing i don't know i think i

[36:10]too much abuse permanent bruising um and then if i said you are we doing bernie week has been a bad

[36:17]massage i need a happy ending i mean it's just so you have said that rob like that's the thing

[36:22]that's the thing you've definitely said rob and there goes the ending to our our final joke at

[36:26]the end of the podcast but thanks rob i appreciate it and then i would say like have you ever fucked

[36:32]a pharaoh put this pussy in a sarcophagus i bruised her esophagus i mean i was like

[36:37]god damn this guy's like a genius it's the funniest fucking thing all right let's start

[36:41]the album we have dark fantasy i wonder if he uses the same rhyming software that you use for your

[36:47]final rating rob you're going to rhyme.com you mean google or you go rhymes with stone question

[36:52]mark i absolutely love this opening to the album this just hit me in the feels like aaron would say

[36:58]i listened to this song i bet 50 times over the last week i absolutely love it adore it yes

[37:04]i mean listen to this it's so good i when i started this i was like wait this is kanye west

[37:12]but the coolest i'm dumb the coolest part is that you have this feeling that all of a sudden it

[37:16]starts kicking in there that that beat that hits in in a little bit it's just amazing

[37:19]here it comes

[37:24]this song this song was not released as a single and it still made the billboard top 100 at 60.

[37:34]how is that possible how does a song make it to 60 without being a single just people buying it

[37:39]off itunes i guess yeah i don't know how any of that works i don't understand this is one of the

[37:44]songs that rizza came out to help produce in hawaii i i read an article from a guy who said

[37:50]that as a dj he would kind of loop that that like at the end of the night he would loop the part

[37:56]about can we get much higher and can you imagine being in a club i've never been in a club but can

[38:02]you i imagine it can you imagine being in a club end of the night oh my god can you imagine in a

[38:07]club i've got i've got like my i've got my reggie miller jersey on with no name number on the back

[38:13]i'm wearing my lafonzo ellis jersey russell's got his reggie miller jersey yeah and we're doing

[38:18]molly whatever the kids do matt's gonna make it to the club right after he goes and buy some

[38:21]discount inflatables for his yard and then the dj loops can we get much higher and you're just

[38:26]like hugging whoever's next to you whether it's you know one of you guys or you know a sibling

[38:31]whatever you got to do and i just can't imagine like what a fun fun time it would be i think you

[38:37]have problems you don't understand what a club is not like russ and i we go to the clubs all the

[38:42]time i think this might be the greatest opening song we've heard yet it's a ripper man yeah i

[38:47]couldn't argue it's so good and i will say i got to pick the music at the weight room the other day

[38:51]i put this on everybody was just bopping and jamming like everybody loves this album and

[38:55]they're listening to it like it's an oldies and i'm listening to it like have you guys heard this

[38:59]i'm so fucking old man kids will just put you in a black kids will put you in a pop culture black

[39:06]hole it's just it's wild what they do to you when i was listening to this i was gonna miss mix some

[39:10]goose and malibu it called a malibuya but that sounded terrible so instead i'm drowning my

[39:16]sorrows tonight in that diablo just like kanye would with caliero de quiablo cabernet i'm wondering

[39:24]what's going to be worse the pain of this podcast or the hangover oh yes what's worse

[39:29]hangover yeah i could sample too i could sample too gorgeous we've got kid cuddy and raekwon on

[39:37]this one so i before i start this i will say he's a good guy he's a good guy he's a good guy

[39:40]when he went out to hawaii he felt really kind of vulnerable and i think we've seen this now even

[39:45]with kind of modern kanye where he he just wants to work with people he felt comfortable with

[39:50]he was obsessed with not letting this album get released and when he was making this album he had

[39:54]three studios booked all at the same time and he would go into one studio write the song and then

[39:59]when he got a block he would go to the next studio right next door they're working on the beat he'd

[40:03]go and help work with the beat and then he'd go to the next studio and be working on the third song

[40:06]he was constantly everyone that was working with him said how hard he was working he probably

[40:10]helped him and he was constantly working with him and he was constantly working with him and he was

[40:10]he also like pays all the guys that are working for him and they're going to work for him in the

[40:13]future but they're like oh kanye you're such a good worker but but apparently he he rented this

[40:18]huge mansion never went there to sleep he would just sleep on a chair in the studio so that's

[40:23]kind of a lot like this podcast except i do fall asleep on my child's bed in flabby road here when

[40:28]i'm done podcasting all right so don't feel free guys anytime i make a joke or whatever feel free

[40:36]to also say a joke and kind of like i don't know we can like riff on stuff or whatever but if you

[40:40]want to just let me talk that's fine too all right gorgeous no we're good we're good

[40:45]i never got into kid cuddy you did it oh i got into it big time kind of like acid rap

[40:56]yeah he's nice i could listen to ray kwan's rap about fresh fruit every day for the rest of my

[41:08]life i just want to hear ray kwan rap about fresh fruit every day for the rest of my life

[41:10]that statement that statement surprises me zero

[41:14]ray kwan never raps about food in cans or anything in bags with preservatives does he it's really

[41:22]disappointing i'm ray kwan i'm going to talk to you about fish fillets and whether or not the

[41:28]cheese on top is any good aaron's like oh my god this is everything i've wanted in my life

[41:32]i need to know this

[41:33]uh so i do want to say this as well we the way this podcast is set up the guys helped me out by

[41:40]sending me times that they want me to play the songs and we try to find times that are interesting

[41:44]to represent the song well i i have really tried not to make fun of aaron this episode i didn't

[41:48]include him in the intro i was very proud of myself but i am going to say aaron sent me a

[41:52]million times that had no kanye west i like did the first four and there's no kanye west noises

[41:57]whatsoever he'd be like listen to these synths they're really good and then like dark fantasy

[42:01]it was just the beginning and i was like okay we got to play some clips of kanye actually rapping

[42:05]so here's kanye on gorgeous

[42:07]fair it's fair

[42:08]drink some less lights

[42:10]she told the director she's trying to get in the school he said take them glasses off and get in

[42:17]the pool it's been a while since i watched you've never done that in school have you

[42:21]maybe that's what you need to do at your uh your holiday party is

[42:24]tell everyone to take those glasses off and get in the pool

[42:27]i mean in fairness to kanye it's still his music even if he's not rapping he's the mastermind

[42:34]behind the album but i i feel you i hear you are you defending yourself are you defending

[42:38]yourself from me making fun of you you've never done that one

[42:40]i can't believe you started that now how dare you defend yourself actually i think i'm gonna say

[42:45]this at my holiday party

[42:46]that's gonna be my opener and it's gonna be like wait what see that's the genius of kanye and some

[42:58]of these uh other artists that came out jay-z uh kind of after the gangster rap kind of stuff

[43:04]what is it i'm not an english major but what is that called a double entendre where you know you

[43:09]say one thing it's got some double meaning i mean that's a hilarious line right then if you really

[43:14]if you peel back the onion a little bit i mean it's it's kind of a serious line too like they

[43:19]forgot about my black balls you know like kind of it's a it's a phenomenal statement from from a

[43:25]serious standpoint as well so i mean it's it's and there's a there's a million of these laced

[43:30]throughout this album yeah you're right he's talking a lot about race on this track specifically

[43:34]and yeah and absolutely and about how he was treated after the taylor swift thing you know

[43:38]maybe because of who he is so yeah which is wild coming from the track earlier where he mentioned

[43:43]urkel so i mean you're all over on this album too many urkel and your winslow winslow yes

[43:49]rob has definitely never ever looked up double entendre on an adult video site

[43:54]d-a-d-v i thought it was i miss i misspelled entered uh so here's the thing

[44:02]oh oh that joke took a while to say again okay but from here on out guys

[44:07]clean yeah next aaron's gonna be like what if the big bopper had black balls

[44:13]all right so let's power this is the first single to come out after the taylor swift incident it was

[44:19]released before the album made it all the way to 22 on the charts he claims that this is the first

[44:24]album where he wrote down the lyrics to his songs and he said this was 5 000 hours of writing well

[44:29]somebody wrote down the lyrics to his songs well i can tell you who it is the guy's a genius i went

[44:36]there for the first time there's some idiots on there man

[44:39]what's that a siren in the background

[44:44]you can hear that siren needs more every song gets better with the siren it all sounds so good

[44:55]i can definitely see rob in his studio and in hawaii after his next exile after these jokes

[45:03]yeah using the siren just non-stop

[45:06]and kanye's like yeah i can see that i'm down oh it's so good the idea is so good i love that song

[45:11]i mean it just is so like i know it's called power but it's just it's just a blast right in your face

[45:16]i just love it i can't get enough of it fun fact the drums came from a band called cold grits i love

[45:22]that like cold grits drums it's cold what cold grits again cold grits that's where the drums

[45:28]come from cold grits like if you go to mcdonald's too late in the breakfast hour and they're getting

[45:33]cold and they give you cold grits is that man don't even listen to that song it's so good

[45:36]don't start me about that because i went to a wedding angry aaron is back oh listen

[45:41]i don't know if i went to a wedding in iowa in september of 2007 and the groom's family was from

[45:51]north carolina and the groom's dad on the morning of the wedding hooked everybody up with call back

[45:57]to mcdonald's egg mcmuffins and grits it was such a wonderful i mean you can't beat that breakfast

[46:03]if mcdonald's had grits that i'd never eat anywhere else

[46:06]aaron is a beautiful person because he remembers a breakfast from a wedding from 2007 that's why

[46:11]that's why we love you aaron that's uh 45 seconds of our life we're not gonna get back

[46:16]i didn't tell you guys my wife my wife i didn't think she listened to the podcast but she called

[46:29]me a mean old daddy the other day like in a good way in a bad way so did it work or what was the

[46:35]context

[46:36]i don't know she was are you being i don't know what it was but no no no no daddy right here

[46:42]word on this word on the street is that your your wife and the kids wanted to go cut down a real

[46:46]christmas tree and that you decided no we don't need to cut down a real tree there's all these

[46:51]places within five minutes we can just buy a tree true or not true uh no here's the deal so we we

[46:57]we've been going up to this place up in ramsey 45 minutes away you know and it's a great i wish i

[47:03]knew the name of the tree farm i can drive there without looking at a map and i can drive there

[47:06]it's a great place but they've got an outside bonfire you can get uh like it's called it's

[47:12]pronounced uh bonivere bonfire bonfire god damn it that was funnier okay wait edit it's called

[47:20]bonfire yeah all right hit the brakes again i hit the brakes okay keep going keep going ignore me

[47:28]all right and so and then they have like uh like homemade sausages and things i mean so it's great

[47:34]it's a phenomenal thing you can make a day of it you can make a day of it you can make a day of it

[47:36]hang out there for a while you walk out but it's nothing they don't have any of the good stuff

[47:41]going on you just literally you can go out cut down your tree and leave and so i said it's not

[47:45]worth a 45 minute drive and the trees are about twice as much as you can pay at uh you know just

[47:51]the your normal lot around here so if we can't get all that other stuff let's let's save ourselves

[47:57]the 45 minute drive back yeah i wouldn't have gone to bonfire either or whatever it's called

[48:01]i don't fear but i i think her his wife was really excited

[48:06]when he came back with an inflatable christmas tree uh so he has i do have a 12 foot i do have

[48:12]a 12 foot one outside right outside the door wait wait wait wait you have a 12 foot inflatable tree

[48:18]outside yep there's real trees out there you know like you don't need to get an inflatable tree

[48:22]there's actual trees that's why he's the mean old lights up i got it i got a replica of my house

[48:28]it's inflatable it's right next to my house all right all the lights oh this is the interlude i'm

[48:36]sorry interlude's so nice i like the interlude there's something about the cello that just it

[48:43]does something for me does it do anything for you guys hitchcock oh yeah man charny great dude

[48:48]so i love this cello on on this kind of interlude this real brief point before it kicks into the

[48:53]next song and that cello's kind of playing through the next song but i started thinking hey what are

[48:57]the greatest modern songs that include the cello and a lot of them are beatles songs and we've done

[49:01]enough beatles so there's no beatles on this list but when i started kind of looking at the

[49:06]i came across this genre of music called cello rock and it's essentially rock music that uses

[49:11]cellos and other instruments like a violin as the primary instrument instead of guitars or drums and

[49:18]i thought you guys would really like this so yeah the first group is the one matt just said is two

[49:23]cellos and this is their cover of thunderstruck by acbc you guys have to watch this video if you

[49:28]get a chance i've heard of classic rock but classical rock cello rock rob cello rock

[49:36]cello but classical rock

[49:38]by the end of this these guys are like headbanging and like their

[49:44]their bows are like all strung about and everything so hey riff it's great

[49:48]i you know what i have a uh pandora station when i want to write long boring things for work

[49:56]and it just is music like this and it does get you pumped up it's so good one of my favorite

[50:02]things about researching this group is they're this this cello duo and they've

[50:06]performed on the show glee but they've also most importantly played at someone's wedding

[50:11]for recent contestants of the bachelor so i figured even the two cellos are more popular

[50:16]weddings than aaron when it comes to wedding performances

[50:18]the third song on our list is also another cello rock band this band is called apocalyptica

[50:28]and this is a finnish band of cellists that play metal music and this is nothing else matters by

[50:34]metallica oh boy well i can't

[50:36]wait till the end of this because then it's it's finished

[50:38]no it's finnish finnish yeah this is finnish i just stole man's joke that's the finish i

[50:49]explained it again in a worse way god i suck at this

[50:53]aaron would have stayed in the band and orchestra if he knew he could have played

[51:00]if i could play the cello with apocalyptica yeah if i had lived in finland the scandinavian

[51:06]countries and i believe finland is actually not scandinavian so i'm wrong about that but

[51:10]those countries in that area of the world i'm sure you're wrong about it i think finland is

[51:13]not scandinavian right oh guys this goes on my other podcast because they're slavic or something

[51:21]anyway it's called norway nobody's gonna listen to you

[51:26]no that's way better than what i picked i picked a name that was actually pretty offensive

[51:31]erin why are you talking about the norwegians

[51:36]in this that part of the country or something dark metal is like a big part of like i think

[51:41]like swedish death metal is a thing right so like they you know they're darker all the time they

[51:46]like to rock out so i'm a big metallica fan and so i really enjoyed that song but i think one of

[51:50]the reasons i really like the cello on this kanye album it's not just this song it's on multiple

[51:54]songs is that it made me think of the game of thrones and i don't know if you guys are game

[52:00]of thrones fans but there's a lot of songs that are like cello forward songs in game of thrones

[52:04]and the one that you

[52:06]might recognize is this theme song from house lannister and the red wedding it's the reigns of

[52:12]castamere which is played by tina guo you guys remember this red wedding oh yeah dark one of

[52:20]the greatest scenes in tv history i think so good this is so dark my jaw dropped during this

[52:25]the red wedding is so famous that i never made it to that episode and i know what the red wedding

[52:32]is yeah i never got past the sixth episode

[52:36]it's when erin and his wife undercooked their beef and she got mad at him and there was like

[52:40]a huge disturbance uh i want to touch you in your netherlands you guys never asked the name of the

[52:48]podcast but that's what it was that was it and so the the final cello song that i think not

[52:53]scandinavia so typically we kind of don't really go down the classical music route but you have to

[52:59]talk about yo-yo ma right like he is like when it comes to classical musicians even i as someone

[53:04]who's not a huge music fan or classical music fan know who this guy is and this guy sells out

[53:09]arenas and stadiums to play classical music so this is yo-yo ma cello suite number one in g major

[53:16]by johan sebastian beck i mean bach you guys know this one yeah this is just beautiful stuff

[53:25]you know the thing about uh yo-yo ma is his work is real up and down

[53:34]rob your mic's off

[53:39]yo-yo ma yo-yo mtv raps okay so i don't i don't know what you guys think is the best of all those

[53:47]but this comes from from bach so i have to ask you when it comes to cello music who did it better

[53:53]bach did it better oh thank you yeah all right you know what russ that was a long way to go for

[54:01]that but it was worth it just so mike so mike small dick doesn't get mad at him

[54:04]oh no i don't think we had a term the term scandinavia the local usage

[54:10]denmark norway and sweden um the nordic countries include finland but the what english how many dick

[54:20]countries nope how many dicks nor dick

[54:23]scandinavia sometimes refers more narrowly to scandinavia which includes the scandinavian

[54:31]peninsula but also includes uh finland and

[54:34]iceland so it's part of the nordic but it's not necessarily scandinavian because finland's

[54:39]different their language developed differently from the rest of those countries i mean denmark

[54:43]the scandinavian peninsula and they're just kind of up off so guy is that okay mike is that what

[54:48]you wanted oh no you got your facts was that fucking funny to you that was fun hearing those

[54:53]facts dumb shit don't ever listen to the podcast again mike all right oh geez but you do need to

[55:02]keep downloading it because we do judge our worth by the number of

[55:04]downloads and it's very hurtful mike was downloading on three devices we need those

[55:08]downloads rob oh actually i was downloading on four devices oh another mistake you made shut up

[55:14]mike all right so we have all of the lights this is uh you might have heard a little parody of this

[55:20]earlier and it's pretty good um okay i just said it's pretty good i shouldn't have said that maybe

[55:26]we should play the other parody that you have prepared right now all right so and here is all

[55:32]of the lights

[55:34]everybody welcome to k that sounds like rob that does not sound like kanye at all

[55:38]or rihanna or drake or john legend or alicia keys or anyone and it turned out there was a buffet

[55:44]and some wife swapping action i think what just let it go rob you sit back sit back and let it

[55:51]let it rain sit back

[55:53]they have all you can eat crab legs

[55:57]i should use that as a joke i can think of a thousand jokes

[56:04]i'm on a cruise i'm with my spouse feel so good to get out the house we meet some folks

[56:12]we think they're nice we're hanging out i talk with the wife oh no no phone starts ringing

[56:21]no folks are calling turns out big on swinging go to their room his name is john

[56:28]let's couple there

[56:29]oh no come on is that why you wanted this

[56:34]wait how many wives are involved with this

[56:36]it's swapping

[56:38]rob's disappointing all of them

[56:41]don't count the wives in the wife's box

[56:42]it's just like don't count how many drinks you've had

[56:44]this is my favorite line right here

[56:47]my wife is happy but the rest of them cry

[56:52]so there we go

[56:57]hope you guys are happy with that

[56:58]setting me up to make fun of me

[57:00]all right so this this uh this

[57:03]all of all of the lights are on

[57:04]all of the lights has a ton of 11 guest vocalists on this and apparently what kanye wanted to do is just bring them in and make this texture where you can't actually pick out who's who

[57:13]but it's pretty crazy when you realize all the people we've got rihanna doing the hook we've got elton john we've got john legend

[57:19]we've got fergie on here here here's all of them lights this got all the way up to 18th on the billboard 100

[57:25]won the grammy for best rap song as well

[57:34]this was one of my favorite songs by the way to do a karaoke

[57:37]what's that when the drums hit oh my god

[57:43]this is the kind of stuff aaron said

[57:46]here comes

[57:50]oh that's my favorite moment on the album

[57:55]but it's the kanye's vision he's not rapping

[58:01]yeah well you're right aaron i'm

[58:04]sorry i don't mean to criticize your times i like it when you send me the album times i do i'm so

[58:08]sorry sorry i'm sorry i'm very sorry i think one of the one of the things i like most about this song

[58:12]is it's the exact opposite of being one-dimensional there are so many twists and turns there's so many

[58:18]times where you'd like think you know what's happening in the song and then there's a new

[58:21]rapper or there's a new artist or a new singer you're like holy shit what's happening right now

[58:25]it's just almost overwhelming with exciting stuff i i just i loved it here's a here's a

[58:30]great example this is one of the few songs where you will hear fergie go into elton john's

[58:34]piano

[58:34]i can play that easily easily

[58:52]we need to pay elton john millions for that i could have played that

[58:56]he's just playing two like two keys maybe one

[59:04]hot take elton john sucks all right now we have monster so this was a song i thought was

[59:12]kind of interesting they did mention thriller when i read about the song as kind of a similar

[59:16]idea of like incorporating monsters into music which i kind of love uh here we go

[59:22]i know at some point i think nikki minaj is on this one is this the first

[59:34]is this the first album you guys remember where there's male and female artists on the same album

[59:39]i don't recall many albums we've listened to so far where there's multiple male and female singers

[59:43]on the same album my past my presence is a present kiss my ass i mean i can't think of any

[59:50]yeah i don't think there's any i was thinking about angelo d'angelo did a couple drops there

[59:55]you go that d'angelo's on the learn hill that's true right yeah nailed it matt yeah you know what

[60:01]hey mike mike magic mike's

[60:03]64 whatever your name is i'm sorry for nothing on that one yeah suck my balls that was matt's

[60:10]smart comment of the week oh that's some smart shit oh yeah so here is nikki minaj

[60:17]absolutely bringing the heat on monster oh my god

[60:33]i love nikki minaj that that i swear pointed out or like there's like a growl or there's like a

[60:40]viciousness to her when she goes into that mode it is so awesome i just love it she does like

[60:45]10 different voices on that one verse i just i think that all of rap music is divided into

[60:50]everything before that verse and everything after that that verse is such a monster i i

[60:55]i don't disagree i mean i i think that's crazy and i will say peloton this week is coming out

[60:59]with a nikki minaj ride in case you guys want to hop on that all right so this next song is

[61:03]called monster no the next song is called so appalled this is a this is all about him being

[61:07]famous and the in the issues he's having and it has one of the greatest lines in a song i've ever

[61:11]heard if god had an ipod i'd be on his playlist you cannot you cannot get better writing than

[61:18]that it's so good

[61:20]i thought you were going to talk about when he ripped hammer for going broke

[61:31]it's like that was pretty wild

[61:33]has any album on our list so far called out so many other people or other groups

[61:37]he's just he's he's raining his fire all over people isn't he

[61:41]i am so outrageous

[61:45]matt what do you think of the album so far i had the prince

[61:52]well i mean so i i was in the part of the the list this year this week where i was

[62:00]listened to college dropout which was basically his first album

[62:03]and the you know he's done this his whole career his whole like solo career where he uses all of

[62:10]these uh all these different samples all these different people and you know it's kind of gone

[62:16]on to um you know he keeps tweaking it getting better and better and when we get to my favorite

[62:22]song coming up here at runaway you know he's finally kind of getting away from kind of just

[62:27]the they called chipmunk rap where it's just kind of all about fun and being a party to

[62:33]he cuts a vein on this one and so for that i really really like this album compared to some

[62:38]of the other ones i mean but all of them are um you know he he's a musical genius and what he does

[62:44]i i i think we'll talk about it maybe a little later he's kind of a he's kind of a prick you

[62:49]know by calling out all these people all the time and kind of the way he treats some people but

[62:54]um there's no doubt that he's he's a musical genius and deserves to be here but um you know

[63:00]when we get to runaway you know i think you can really

[63:02]hear where he cuts a vein there a little bit so it's so good devil in a new dress

[63:07]this is a sample of or it's a the beats are smoky robinson will you love me tomorrow

[63:12]no you're right this is a sample you're right

[63:14]also another terrible date moment when i ordered a jerk at the jamaican spot and that's what my

[63:24]date told me i was it was so horrible you are what you eat can you explain this to me about

[63:32]mace aaron what's he talking about yeah so mace was at the height of his height of his game you

[63:38]know uh would have been late in the late 90s you know more money more problems and then yeah he

[63:43]left the rap game to be a preacher and then you know that he was at the top of the rap game and

[63:48]he left um malice actually pushed his brother malice to the same thing and so i don't connie's

[63:54]got a mace thing because he's he shouts out mason a couple of different albums but uh he definitely

[63:59]thinks i think he was i think he was actually a fan of mace

[64:02]and you can hear in his voice he was inspired by mace and so maybe he just thought mace should

[64:07]have made more music so he's maybe he's trying to goad mason to make another album i don't know

[64:10]yeah i i think going uh from preacher it would be hard to then make an album like this where

[64:15]you're like yeah saying all these super i mean i i have to admit when i did play this in the gym

[64:20]there were a couple times like when chris rock is talking about oh is your pussy upholstered i was

[64:23]like okay i gotta go to the next song i'm lifting with too many women in here i can't be playing

[64:27]this uh and russ the reason i played that is i had the jerk clip in it but i i got distracted

[64:32]by my mace talk and then we have of course rick ross

[64:35]and this is when yeah this is when ross was like the symbol of decadence in rap so putting rick

[64:52]ross who is rick ross beside having the one of the greatest names of all time if i had a kid and

[64:57]i named them rick ross you know they're gonna do great stuff who is rick ross i mean he's the he was

[65:02]a florida rapper he's the head of maybach music and he's a guy who's just known for extravagance so

[65:08]lush beats big verses he's a partial owner of wingstop well everybody's a partial owner of

[65:14]wingstop there's a ton of partial owners of wingstop i know but that's how i know him is

[65:19]through fast food oh my god i'm pathetic by the way can you be imagine being the guy who invented

[65:24]the fish filet think about that for a second you go to mcdonald's right and you're like listen you

[65:28]got these burgers everybody loves them you got chicken everybody loves them

[65:32]what about fish wait what he's fish okay well that's good what are we gonna put on it yeah

[65:37]we're gonna put on cheese if that curly haired guy comes in you can put cheese on there

[65:41]ah yes that delicious thing we love but only for fish and cheese we're gonna copyright that

[65:48]before rick ross steals it takes it to wingstop hey what would make this walleye taste better

[65:53]oh how about some nacho cheese on top you're just pouring tons of cheese on top you're like ah yes

[65:58]it's a natural fish filet homemade okay so devil in a new dress

[66:01]oh i want to sit play this for you because he's singing here

[66:06]kanye had a great quote on mtv and i think this sums up kanye really well he says i do have a

[66:14]goal in this lifetime to be the greatest artist of all time but it's very difficult being that

[66:19]i can't dance or sing it's kind of true right yeah totally well that's where you know this

[66:26]next song that comes up you know and i don't remember i didn't remember that he's saying

[66:31]run away as many times as you can imagine robbie you just gotta get to it eventually

[66:34]but he actually sings right and that's where i think he's finally cut in vain he's not using

[66:39]the auto-tune and all that stuff and he's not trying to play all these tracks really loud

[66:43]behind him um he's he's actually wait a minute matt wait a minute wait a minute if you're playing

[66:48]tracks loud behind you and using auto-tune that doesn't mean you're nervous about like a parody

[66:53]song that you made and you're singing is really bad so you crank up the auto-tune and you crack

[66:57]up the background music so nobody can hear you breathe really heavily in between songs because

[67:00]it makes you out of breath

[67:01]okay go ahead man i'm sorry we're trying to explain this right now before we get to run away

[67:07]and i let matt have the floor i'm gonna let you finish but i find it interesting that i once heard

[67:12]an album was uh interview with snoop where snoop talked about some smoky robinson solo stuff that

[67:17]his mom used to listen to around the house and then kanye's sampling one of smoky's solo albums

[67:23]and it it's interesting to me that that you know smoky's solo output is not something that

[67:31]i shouldn't say most people it's not something that ever was on my radar as somebody who listened

[67:35]to a lot of motown but didn't pick up the rest of it and it's cool to me that you know people

[67:40]of that generation like that's what their moms were playing around the house and then it kind

[67:43]of gets left behind for many years and then uh you know snoop or kanye bring it back into vogue

[67:49]because that's what was playing around their house when they were kids so i think it's cool that that

[67:52]smoky's solo stuff gets this turn that way and it just reminds me of the the abundance of music

[67:58]that's out there that we don't all you know know exist in the world and i think it's cool that

[68:01]exists that's why my kids when they're superstars they're going to be sampling two cellos because

[68:06]that's all i listen to around the house i feel like i've done my job i brought cello rock to

[68:10]the masses this this week i feel like i've i've exposed people to all these music styles but let's

[68:15]talk about runaway i want to hear what matt has to say about runaway matt why do you love this i

[68:19]mean i know he's cutting the vein it's like his i get it yeah i just asked you gotta play the

[68:25]beginning here well i don't know if we have the beginning but we have the beginning it's like

[68:31]what in the hell is going on and then you kind of get through it all and you're like

[68:34]he's building up to something here and then uh you know as rosie has so eloquently said a few times

[68:41]all of a sudden the beat drops in the song and you're like oh wow okay i i see where we're going

[68:46]here and so what's the beginning you might as well play it right now while we're talking there

[68:49]you go you know and it's i don't know how many i i looked it up at one point i can play this

[68:53]notes there are um but i can do the yellow john thing i don't know if i could handle this one

[68:58]though he he does this you know he

[69:00]he he he samples a lot or he gets called into to be on a lot of other guys uh records as well

[69:08]and he does these very simple things and there was a a schoolboy q song that part where he came

[69:15]in and all he said was okay like 38 times and schoolboy q thought like what the fuck is this

[69:21]guy completely messing everything up but then you put it with all this stuff and you're like

[69:25]he's a genius you know like it just leads into that you know and

[69:30]that he's that's uh that's rick james so this is our first uh foray into rick james james podcast i

[69:39]think kind of jumping off what you guys have been talking about though like what i when i when i was

[69:43]reading about kanye it's like a very communal part process right like there are all these people

[69:47]that are bringing these different verses that they have and they don't know what it's for

[69:51]and then he hears it or he hears this beat and he's like oh this is perfect for what we're doing

[69:56]here and he brings in all these people and he brings in all these new ideas and he seems like

[70:00]very open to bringing in these other things that people have and it just seemed really cool to

[70:05]to read about like hey there's if you think about like how many amazing artists are on this album

[70:11]there's dozens of them and they're bringing like a verse or they're bringing a beat or there's

[70:15]something and he's bringing all this in it i know the guy's like a very ego-driven person but

[70:20]there's got to be some part of him he's like i'm gonna put my ego aside to bring like these

[70:24]amazing things and let this be the start of the song i think it's very cool and i i'm gonna

[70:30]i i agree but i'm gonna i i'm gonna go a little cynical on it okay with with what he does there

[70:36]is that he is going he's trying to improve what all these other people did interesting kind of

[70:41]bring it you know and bring it and put them together in a different way and rearrange and

[70:45]compilate and put everything together and put his stamp on it um you know and say well that

[70:50]that was great back in the day but you know here let's make this a little better i

[70:53]i think he's pretty maniacal that way not not so much maybe not in a bad way

[71:00]i mean i think it's just the way he ticks and uh i don't know if there's probably some sort of

[71:04]psychological uh term for it um and so i i don't know but i i don't think he's like i i feel like

[71:12]jay-z is much more like hey all for one one for all and and kanye is much more like oh i can improve

[71:19]on that you know bring in you're good but you know you could be part of this but the whole thing's

[71:23]gonna have my big stamp over it so i don't know you guys are saying some very smart stuff and so

[71:30]in the morning when i'm uh eat my waffles i'm ego driven

[71:33]so rob your mic's off i tried to interrupt earlier and that's a long way away rob

[71:39]rob i gotta say when matt said compilate that's a that's the first rap word we've made up on this

[71:44]podcast go ahead is it possible is it possible that kanye's act of being so egotistical is an act

[71:50]is it possible that it is just him doing that as like a bit no no i think i think when you're

[71:58]as good as something as

[71:59]this guy is at this you have to you have to believe that you're the greatest in the world

[72:04]you have to have this uber confidence that you can do this better than anyone or you wouldn't

[72:08]get to this point i think i think he probably has a genuine ego that he knows he can do this

[72:14]better than anyone else and i think he's probably right yeah i you do see a lot of parallels between

[72:20]him and brian wilson don't you where he's coming up with new like you're talking about he's taking

[72:25]these other things and coming up with new ways to do it like you know brian wilson was dragging a

[72:29]pin along a piano coming up with new sounds and obsessed with the producing like how it how it's

[72:34]made it's a similar thing or am i saying something stupid no i agree with you but uh the parallel to

[72:39]me and i have to shout out my brother on this one because uh we had a discussion about this this

[72:44]week the parallel to me is dylan wait you're stealing your takes from your brother yes i like

[72:50]it no i'm giving i give i just give him credit if i was gonna steal it i'd be like i mean we were

[72:55]gonna we were gonna replace you next week with your wife i didn't know your brother was giving

[72:58]your takes too

[72:59]like 100 you might be sitting third you might be sitting third chair in that trombone audition

[73:03]that would be fair too bad we're giving him credit that's getting edited out so it's gonna be like

[73:08]here's a smart thing i think yeah the parallel is dylan where they're so good at saying things

[73:13]in their music that you absolutely should not listen to anything they say outside of their

[73:17]music because they said it all in their music and anything they say outside of that is suspect

[73:22]because they don't know how to talk to people as a human but they can say it as musicians

[73:26]and there was a great there was a great interview on the on that netflix

[73:29]uh david letterman and my next guest is and he's got kanye on and you and it's one of those things

[73:35]where i i start to sweat i just feel nervous for the guy because he cannot function you know like

[73:41]he's not like just like a given like a you know and dave's trying to help him along and it's like

[73:46]he's just he's a little bit awkward in that kind of setting and i don't know i listen to the same

[73:52]thing i heard kanye on the people joe rogan who's like the biggest podcast in the world was trying

[73:56]to get him on forever and he finally got him on and i listened to it and i was like oh my god i'm

[73:59]and it was really really brutal you couldn't get through like a minute or two and then you'd fast

[74:04]forward and say well maybe this part just wasn't good and it's just it's not his it's not his

[74:09]street it's not his avenue right he's getting out of his lane with that type of thing but man he is

[74:14]like going a hundred miles an hour on this lane yeah he can say it all got all the way up to 12

[74:22]in the charts and i don't know why i like it but if i've listened to this once i've listened to it

[74:29]times i got into my top 100 of all time and i mean i listen to it all the time

[74:33]i want to get to the chorus here because i love it so much

[74:42]yeah and i think it's the i do i think it was like kind of the first

[74:48]before they'll listen to it oh yeah

[74:51]wait i just realized rob did this introduction when he introduced

[74:59]me at the beginning i don't know how i feel about that i do like that he rhymed douchebags

[75:03]and scumbags i think that shows some real it makes me feel like i could be kanye but i feel

[75:08]i kind of feel like it's the first i don't know ballads not the right term but it's kind of the

[75:11]first serious song i've heard out of kanye for what that is and i think that's what i was drawn

[75:17]to it with yeah here's a here's a quick uh uh so hell of a life here we go

[75:22]so

[75:28]does he have to play ozzy when he rips off he's yeah he has ozzy as a writer

[75:34]so how do you think that works does he go to ozzy and like he's just so big that

[75:40]ozzy says absolutely whatever you do just give me like a couple percent or what

[75:44]i think it's don't you think it's all handled through agents labels who actually labels

[75:50]handle most of that you know what's going on i mean i don't know if kanye came to you and said

[75:54]hey we want a sample beck did it better would you let us i mean you'd be like okay give me one cent

[75:58]for every album you sell it will be one more cent that we've made so far so yeah

[76:03]that's not true i've been stealing stuff out of my child's bedroom and selling it so

[76:08]hell of a life is hell of a life is the one that foreshadows yeezus where he just like really went

[76:14]in on the dark sex rapping and you know heavy nine inch nils inspired beats it's not my favorite

[76:19]track on the album i am gonna write that down yeezus dark sex inspired okay so i'll be back in

[76:24]a second i gotta go blame game

[76:28]this is what i'm talking about where it's that dark the album starts out kind of high and fun

[76:33]and it starts to come down here and i think matt describes it perfectly as opening a vein here

[76:38]and then you get this song where it's so depressing and then in the middle chris rock

[76:44]has the funniest fucking bit i just it is great i cannot get in i was listening to it work i was

[76:49]like this is the funniest thing i've ever heard this is john legend right yeah john legend it's

[76:55]our second album with the john legend feature on it

[76:58]i like this biggie inspired uh rapping with yourself kind of thing changing the voices

[77:11]except you know biggie did it with his own voice and kanye had to use the vocoder quick thing about

[77:16]chris rock though i was listening to another podcast on this album because uh this album

[77:22]doesn't even download her own podcast this album so this month like november was this album's 10th

[77:27]anniversary november 22nd and i'm like oh my god i'm gonna listen to this album i'm gonna listen to

[77:28]2010 so there's a lot of stuff out there about this album i like that and uh chris rock may have

[77:34]set off some controversy because after the album came out he said this album was better than

[77:38]thriller and i don't want to foreshadow our final ratings but what do we think is this album better

[77:44]than thriller yes no question no question i can't disagree right like yeah i think it's better than

[77:50]thriller this album has a disturbing lack of pyt on it though i will say that um so we've got

[77:58]lost in the world with the aforementioned bone ivir the silence that our listeners hear is russ giving

[78:03]the finger wag sign to move it along

[78:05]it's so pretty i've never understood i've never understood bony bear and i've never got it i only

[78:16]know his kanye the song's taking so much from other other songs before like what how does that

[78:22]influence where you rate this like this is not unique for kanye he's just taking it from something

[78:27]else

[78:28]oh it doesn't matter doesn't matter it's like that's like what is that uh is it

[78:34]it's that thing where okay well you've got all these words and now you're writing a new book

[78:39]but all these words are yeah out there you know like it's completely different it's like my book

[78:46]i wrote the tale of three cities okay it was the best of times it was the worst of times it was

[78:51]okay like that workout was the okay seven minute abs no six minute abs it's like buying razors right

[78:58]it's like oh you're using a two blade razor you fucking idiot this is a three-pronged razor

[79:03]then there's four and there's five it's like too many i have to say this this is how they end the

[79:09]album is with a sample of gil scott heron i love gil scott heron i just cannot get enough of this

[79:16]every night what he does oh great voice

[79:20]who will survive in america who will survive in america who will survive in america who will

[79:27]survive in america and i i think okay tell me who gil scott heron is i should know he does he does

[79:35]like spoken word poetry over drums and it's probably his most famous was the one where his

[79:42]a rat bit his sister and they put a man on the moon if you want to look one up it's gil scott

[79:46]heron man on the moon and it's just this really powerful statement of like i'm living in the

[79:51]ghetto things are going terrible for us but great we put a man on the moon like how does that affect

[79:55]us and i think we talked a lot about the humor on this album and i think we talked a lot about the

[79:56]humor on this album and we talked a lot about the beats but there's a lot of social commentary going

[80:01]on in this album too that he slips in between talking about you know putting something in a

[80:05]sarcophagus all right let's get into the most popular segment on the show and definitely not

[80:09]the point where we're all just staring at each other because we're so tired

[80:12]and now it's time interesting to have somebody call in to see if they actually make it

[80:18]do you think anyone has ever made it this far just have one person call in if you call in leave

[80:24]a voicemail i'll give you a dollar

[80:26]here's the deal i'll venmo you one dollar all right rolling going how's it going everybody

[80:31]uh no this is not rolling this is our final rating and this is uh where we say is this album

[80:39]this is 17th on the list okay it got is this it must have been bumped up because this album wasn't

[80:44]out the first time they made the list uh is this album rolling well toned it belongs at 17

[80:49]it didn't get rolling boned it should not be 17 it should be higher than 17 which in this case is a

[80:55]lower number so i'm not sure if it's going to be higher than 17 but i'm not sure if it's going to be

[80:56]it should be in the top 10 it should be in the top five it was it was uh it was 353 by the way

[81:01]on the last whoa just okay oh so mike guess what mike open up your itunes review that you're

[81:08]writing delete delete delete dumb shit okay we fixed it all right take your computer put it in

[81:15]the garbage can shut up all right and then we have i will never apologize and then we have

[81:21]rolling grown this album is should not be this high it should be lower on the list we

[81:26]do not like it uh matt what do you think i'm gonna say it's rolling well toned um you know i think

[81:33]we've got maybe six kanye albums total which i think the next time they do this around they're

[81:39]gonna cut a couple of them because i think six is too many but um in terms of you know his place

[81:47]in the overall stratosphere of music i mean he's certainly put his stamp on it with this album this

[81:53]in college dropout which comes in i think in the 60s and 70s

[81:56]um you know he he's he's very good at what he does he's extremely good at what he does he's an

[82:04]extremely talented person i try to take what i know or what i've seen because i don't know him

[82:09]but what i've seen of him outside of kind of the music sphere and i try to put that to the side as

[82:15]much as i possibly can and and just say he's a he's a brilliant musician i i thoroughly enjoyed

[82:22]listening to this album i think you know like a top 20 album fits where it is and i'm not going

[82:26]to say it's a good album but i think it's a good album and i think it's a good album and i think

[82:26]try to jumble between if should it be 16 or 15 but you know having a top 20 album this should

[82:32]definitely be there so i'm saying rolling well tone aaron what do you think rolling well tone

[82:38]rolling boned or rolling grown agree with matt that it's a top 20 album um but i'm gonna be the

[82:44]nerd that matt didn't want to be and quibble over one or two spots because i don't think it should

[82:50]be higher than spoiler alert pimpa butterfly which is coming up so i'm gonna say just barely

[82:54]rolling grown because i

[82:56]think to pipa butterfly is better all right so aaron says uh i think the song sucks all right

[83:05]you're so vicious aaron i don't know why you got to be like that like we're trying to celebrate

[83:09]music you're out here just like ripping ripping ripping russ final rating

[83:15]i don't know it's interesting because this is the first like real modern album where it's

[83:21]within the last 10 years and so i don't know how influential it is because it's only 10 years old

[83:26]but i think this is the best album we've listened to so far and i think the lyrics are awesome i

[83:33]think it's scorching hot take there are all these songs that take these different turns that i was

[83:37]just not expecting and maybe this is because i've never heard this album before but frankly i've

[83:42]never heard any of these albums before but all these songs take all these different turns they

[83:47]have all these different artists there's all these different musical things that are coming in that i

[83:51]just was not expecting and

[83:53]between

[83:56]if you're going to look at the three songs that really did it for me were the opening song my

[84:02]fantasy all of the lights and then whatever the piano song the ding ding ding whatever that song

[84:07]was i just uh run away to me somebody say we're not factually accurate on this podcast that's

[84:12]ridiculous the ding ding ding song yeah i just think that i could see people making an argument

[84:21]for a lot of these albums up there i think this is the best one we've listened to so far i don't

[84:25]think it belongs above barbara i don't think it belongs above barbara i don't think it belongs above

[84:26]garvin gay i think there's maybe one or two others but like would you rather listen to this or listen

[84:31]to pet sounds again what would you rather listen to this i i would say this a hundred times because

[84:37]not even pet sounds yeah this the the and aaron don't let aaron don't laugh at this but the

[84:42]titular track of pet sounds one of the worst songs that we've listened to yet it's terrible

[84:46]i mean this is so much better i i think this got rolling boned and i don't know i don't know they

[84:53]can be much higher in the list because it's so new but this album is going to be so much better

[84:56]than so many of the things we've listened to so far this should be i'm not saying it's number one

[85:02]but it should be in the discussion it's so good all right so guys this time i do want to say um i

[85:08]actually have a real rating this time i'm not just going to make some clever rhyme as so many

[85:12]emailers have let me know yeah so the one thing i think about this album is when i think about

[85:16]growing up you know and and the music i listen to and and i think it's oh wait no i'm really happy

[85:26]about this album because it's a great album and i think it's a great album and i think it's a great

[85:26]album and i think it's a great album and i think it's a great album and i think it's a great album

[85:26]of all time it's kanye i was talking about your album one of the best videos of all time

[85:32]so all right you know what i gotta give this album a rolling interruption because that's what

[85:41]started this whole thing this whole album is caused by that whole thing and him going out to

[85:45]hawaii and kind of secluding himself love it i i could not get enough of this album next up we've

[85:49]got kendrick lamar pimp a butterfly i russ and i were talking about it earlier but i love these

[85:55]albums in a row here i think they're going to be a great album and i think they're going to be a

[85:56]this is this is so fun to have three hip-hop albums right in a row and that's it for beck did

[86:01]it better when you want to hear about the greatest albums of all time but you're just too lazy to

[86:10]look it up online if you want to hear four guys who chat and then they get off track

[86:17]i've got the perfect podcast for you jack beck did it better

[86:26]this podcast felt like a bad massage i'm gonna need a happy ending tonight

[86:30]okay ignore why i'm turning off my video
