The Beatles: Meet the Beatles! (1964)
[0:00]Now, there is a movie called American Circumcision, but this was from 2017, okay? So they kind of got spiked on by COVID. They were like, this is going to be the biggest issue. But wait. It's about the growing, okay, now, first of all, to say the growing movement, I think it's kind of funny, but it's the growing into activist, intactivist movement, which is great if you're an intactivist. It's like, oh, you're an activist? Kind of, okay? But I do have a set of strings and weights that I wear each night. Throwing that shit back, son. Yes, Russell? I don't understand that part. Oh, no. I love the video preview for this movie is like, literally, they just do like a drone shot of the Capitol, and then it's like a baby crying in a bed. Oh, no. And then another, like, there's the shot of, there's another DC shot right there. They just go back and forth. Yeah, that would be, I'm trying to lay off the number of movies that focus on babies' penises. I am trying to lower the amount of movies I'm watching on that. So, I'm going to have to give that a hard pass, Aaron, okay? I'm with you. I have not seen it either.
[1:00]I don't. Okay, sure. Just know that I'm aware that it exists. You're aware that there's a Netflix circumcision movie? I am aware. You are? Now, because you Googled it. You know what, though? Probably with Netflix, if it's just a movie about circumcision, now it's like 10 episodes. It only had to be two. You could have gotten it done in two. Right. Like, I never got to the end of the murder one in Wisconsin, because I just, I couldn't care enough. They're so long. Just tell me who did it. Yeah. It's like, yeah. I love the tiger. Tiger King. Next. Let's go. In 2020, four friends decided to, I just didn't get to my thing. I made a good joke. I didn't click over a fast time. Decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by Rolling Stone Magazine. This resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music, excoriated the order, and led us to making this podcast. We are far from experts, so we promise to do almost no research. All opinions are our own, unless you disagree. Please sit back and enjoy Beck Did It Better. We are all the way up to album 197. And from 1964, it's the album that started Beatlemania, which is, of course, when John
[2:00]Lennon would get fired up by the crowd and do a number of leg drops on his opponent, which was devastating because of his long butt, of course. What are you going to do, brother? John Lennon's Speedos were extra long at the back because of that long butt. Listen. Okay. Let's get right into it. We had enough talking. Let's turn it. Now, I have to say, sometimes... Maybe you have the summer off at work, you got a lot of time, and the mood just hits you. You want to do a full parody song. Okay? These songs aren't even that long. Ooh, a full... He's going full parody. Hey, before I play this song for every guy that's on the podcast, should I send this to the roommate just to get it clearer? And then you kind of forget that you're going to do that, and you just pass on by. So let's play. Listen to it now for the first time. Oh, Russell looks very concerned. Let's turn on the radio and listen to K-Rob. K-R-O-B. What's up, everybody? This is K-Rob. K-R-O-B. Honey, I'm home, and I got another of those statues that you like. Oh, yeah. Russ has a naked figurine on his TV stand.
[3:00]And seeing it, he's realizing he's not a single man. He's not a single man. He's living with a girlfriend. Russ now hosting her parties. For his partner's friends. When Russ wakes up in the morning, he has to share a bathroom. He's not a single man. He needs to ask when he makes plans. When Russ was dating, we all laughed until we cried. But now he's looking at that lease stay. What's up? Russ is a house husband.
[4:00]And I can't believe he's not a single man. I can't wait until Russ throws us a party. Don't try. These naked yoga statues are what I want to see. Want to see. There's more than three. But Russell is so happy. And so are all his friends. But we are all just wondering. What? And is the wedding. Because Russ would be a great husband.
[5:00]And Russ would be the best man. All right. There it is. I believe in you, Russ. Thank you. By the way, we are down a couple yoga statues. I came home the other day, and there was one with a broken head. So we're down at least one yoga statue. Listen, don't do this thing where you tell us that it got broke so you don't get blamed. Okay? Don't do that thing where it's like, hey, honey, something happened with the yoga statues. I did it better. We did have a moment the other week. Wow. An upstairs roommate texted me and was worried I was going to be very mad. She said she put nail polish remover on, like, we have this, like, table that's kind of on wheels in our living room. Really cool table. And supposedly, it somehow burned like a hole in part of the table. I don't know how that, I don't know enough about nail polish remover. Yeah, it's not good. It's not good. And there was, she was very nervous. She said she had texted her friends all day. She was worried I was going to get pissed.
[6:00]I went and looked. I was like, if you didn't tell me about that, I wouldn't even notice it. I could give a shit about, like, a small, like, dent in the table. Like, when you tell me there's a hole, I think legit, like, you could stick something through to the table. I mean, you're picturing a cigarette burn. You're picturing exactly the same thing that we're picturing. Somebody took a cigarette and just burned it right through your table. Through, like, through the table. Yeah. Like, you could stick your finger through it. Yes, but it was, like, a small dent. I was like, it just gives a character, right? Right. And then she has a pin and a condom. She's like, oh, I was going to tell you something else, but forget about it. If you don't care. You won't notice. That's right. If you don't care about holes and things, don't worry about it. All right. Let's get into the voicemail. We're not doing intros? Yeah, who the hell's on this podcast tonight? I was so excited to do the voicemail. I thought that was such a good joke. Who are these fucking guys? Listen, we are here talking about. We're talking about Meet the Beatles, okay? I cannot tell you how bad I wanted to do the Beat the Beatles joke again. I was like, I did that last week.
[7:00]I can't do it. Ringo Brown Star, don't say that again. All right. I've got three guys here who are wondering why the cover of this album has to go so hard. I mean, guys, look at the cover of this album, Meet the Beatles. Look at this thing. It's baller. Just their four faces in blue. Does it look anything like what I'm holding in front of you, Rob? Oh, my God. Look at that. On vinyl. Russell. That's an original. Original from 1964. The dates. That's on the record. Also, can you guess the price? The original price sticker on the record from 1964. Can you guess the price? 15 cents. A dollar? K-penny. $3.99. What was $3.99 worth in 1964, Matt? I don't know, Russ. What was $3.99 worth in 1964? I have no idea. I figure a gallon of gas was like 20 cents then, right? And so now it's like a gallon of gas. Oh, I lost. I got lost in the sauce. Here, guys. I cannot keep track. There's something there. Russell, that's beautiful. I love it. It's got like 20 bucks. It was 10 bucks.
[8:00]$1 was 10. $3.99. 30 bucks. That's like a $40 record. $40 and 42 cents. You know what? Wow. $20 CDs was actually a great deal. We didn't realize it at the time. I know. And great sound quality and very durable. Why didn't I get rid of my CDs? Why are we starting this already? This early in the podcast and I'm already off the rails. Oh, Aaron, don't worry. I'm sure it's the only mistake you'll make in your life as you look back. Well, we're going to talk about Lossless Audio later, so. Oh, my God. Okay. Hey, folks. Aaron, I might have to go get a towel. Don't drink that poison yet. You got to get to the Lossless Audio part and then you can. All right. So, I've got Matt in Minneapolis. Matt, how are you doing? Good, Rob. Go away and leave me alone. Don't bother me. There's been a theme lately. I've got Russell in Minneapolis. Russell, how are you doing? Rob, I never heard it all until there was you. You and this podcast. Oh, wow. Now, Aaron. Now, I got Aaron out in California.
[9:00]Now, Aaron, recently, I saw you took a picture. He said, listen, I'm trying to wear this tipped over canoe on my head. I was like, wait, guys, are you seeing this? Aaron is trying to wear a tipped over canoe on his head. Why would he be trying to wear a tipped over canoe? And Tyler, too. And Aaron says, well, it's capsized. Aaron, how are you? It's capsized. I thought it was a tip of canoe and Tyler, too, joke. But yeah. I didn't see the capsized joke coming. Oh, my God. Listen, tip of canoe or Tyler, too, is also a Dave Ivey Giant song. So, I do. And we can play that before we talk about presidential songs. Oh, that's right. We have. You guys remember the soul man for Bob Dole? Soul man? That was the one where you're like, you can't find this anywhere online. Also, can you canoe by the Okie Dokie Bowler song? That's not familiar. There's also the man in the canoe from my dad. A letter to me, my freshman year. In your column. Do it. Rob, I want to hold your hand. Let's talk about the Beatles. Oh, Aaron, you feel free, except it's so sweaty right now.
[10:00]We should hold hands. We don't like last year we approached hugging. I feel like we should hold hands next time we get together. When I see those Saudi Arabian guys and they're walking around holding hands, I am kind of jealous. I'm like, hey, I want to hang out with my bros and hold hands. Yeah, dude, that's nice. Hey, listen, man, we'll do it like this, man. We'll take it easy for it, okay? We'll do safe hand-holding. We'll each put on some golf gloves. If you were wearing my hand wearing golf gloves, I feel like that's the most bro thing. You can do. I'd be scared. We each have high lie sticks and we're going to touch them to each other. You're a lot stronger than we give you credit for. Well, that's true. Oh what, though? Guys, I will tell you right now, my grip is not. My grip is one of the weakest. I don't, I have Jenny open jars for me sometimes. Like, I really do not have a strong grip and I never have, like, I've never been good at arm wrestling. It's emasculated. And you know what we don't have in this house? Anything to help you open jars. We don't have one of the rubber things. We don't have one of the OXO tools. I got nothing. I'm helpless. Okay. Oh, the lever. Never heard of her. Okay. I'm useless. You have multiple world records. It's all lower body.
[11:00]Yeah. You can't deadlift a jar open. Yeah. Maybe you could somehow. You got to rig something up. You want me to do a very specific action that does not translate to anything else in my life, as far as I can tell. I am okay at that because of my age. And that's about it. Let's get into the voice, man. You're so stupid. I forgot about this, by the way, quick update, desperate for voicemails. I was wrong again. I miscounted. Please. You were mentioning arm wrestling. You know who you should never arm wrestle? People who actively want to arm wrestle. They know something. They know how to like, click, flip the wrist in like a certain way where it doesn't matter how strong someone is. They're going to kill you at our, anyone who wants to arm wrestle, you should never arm wrestle them, right? They know that if you've, if you've got a hat on, if you turn it backwards, it's like flipping a switch things like that. Also, I believe starring Terry Funk, former pro wrestling superstar. Yeah.
[12:00]Famous wrestling family. I would say that's a top three semi movie. Don't you think you've got that you've got over the top, you've got transformers, you got transformers, then mad max, and then mad max, the new man. Well, but then you got to throw in Peewee's big adventure with large, my God, that's such a good semi movie. Okay. I know one large, large, large, large, large, large, large, large, large, large, large. That's not burned into your childhood as something that's shit out of you. I watched that one as much as you guys. Yeah. That was too scary. Way too scary. And then of course, breakdown with Kurt Russell, where he, they were like kidnapping people in the semi, very pivotal movie. It's like the river wild. Just a movie. I saw like a hundred times in my childhood. No idea why. I think my dad must've copied it onto VHS or something. Wait, the river wild. Does that, wait, who's in that one? Meryl Streep. I just rewatched it recently. It's not great. Oh, and Kevin Bacon. There's a rafting movie that's been making me so crazy.
[13:00]One of the Corys is in it and they do some river rafting and it's, it's dangerous the whole time. And then at the very end of the movie, he breaks the fourth wall and he looks at the camera and he says, not this puppy. And I can't fucking remember what movie it is. I bet John for me, Donna knows he'll call in and let us know what it is. Call in, send us a voicemail. What is the movie with one of the Corys where he looks at the camera and says, not this puppy. Okay. At the very end. And there's some rafting involved. Once again, sounds like Aaron, it might be a fever dream. I would say, semi movie is, for me, it's any porno lately. I'm having trouble. Oh, all right. Let's get into the voicemail for your upcoming Beatles episode. So we got a text for the first time ever. We received a text from somebody. Let me see if I can zoom in on this. Where they actually sent us a graphic data visualization about the album that we're doing today. And basically they sent us a graphic of every Beatles song, top 100 hit who it was written
[14:00]By and the percentages. Hey, Aaron, you want to guess who has the highest percentage of Beatles top 100 hits written by? Is it Lennon and McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, or Ringo? Wait, percentage, like best batting average as a songwriter or right. Total. What's the, I don't know. What do you think the difference is? I don't get it. It would be what's the denominator. Is it, is the denominator, all Beatles tunes and then numerator is how many reaches top 100 or the denominator is each songwriter and how many of theirs reached total songs in the top 100 versus songs they wrote in the top 100 and then flow. I'm going to go with George fucking serious. You know, you think George Harrison wrote the most number one. Didn't you go to like, didn't you go to like, we were talking about this. This is the guy who was wearing the Lennon glasses around high school. When you listen back, you're going to realize you're talking about, you're going to take
[15:00]You're going to, when you listen back, you're going to realize you're talking about their batting average and I still might be wrong, but you're talking about how many of their songs, each songwriter's songs reached the top 100. You're not talking about the total. Oh no. And I explained to you, that's not what it was of all Beatles top 100 songs. Who had the highest percentage written? Well, it would be Lennon. Lennon, McCartney. Incorrect. That's what I would say too. Lennon, McCartney wrote 26% of those Beatles, that the Beatles songs that made to the top 100 coming in at 35%, just John Lennon by himself. But they claim. How can you really yeah, every one of them, if you look at the record there are any, every one that one does, they claim them together. Right. Listen. Hold on. But that says, what does it say? It says he's responsible. He's responsible for 43% of their number one hits. McCartney. Let's start with Lennon there. You were talking about Lennon, Rob. This is Lennon and McCartney. 26% of all top 100 hits for the Beatles. Now, first of all, listening to Aaron explain what he's thinking.
[16:00]That's not what it says, Rob. I don't like. Then go to McCartney. Yeah, that's all their songs. Yeah, we're. Oh. Okay. So listen, I was about to say something about Aaron being a bachelor of music and making fun of him. I'm going to scratch that from my mental record that I was ever going to say that. McCartney and Lennon wrote 26%. Paul wrote 29% of the songs, but was responsible for 43% of their number one hits. Lennon did 31% of the songs and 35% of their hits. And George Harrison only wrote 12% of the whole Beatles catalog. And Ringo wrote three songs. But he also sang lead vocals on each one of those songs. So who's the real winner? Right? And we've talked about this before, like the Paul McCartney. He's still alive, so. Jesus Christ, Aaron. So is Paul. What would you take, Aaron? The hits or the. I would take Ringo's life, too. I think Ringo's got a good life. That unfortunate moment in the park in New York. Yeah. John Lennon had one hit that was too big. Oh. What? Jeez. Come on. What?
[17:00]Too soon? Guys. Hey, I know. We're all sad about it. Between this and the expanded butthole thing, I think we're kind of being a little harsh on John. That's true. I didn't realize we were looking at the butthole. To be fair, it was just the butt crack. Sorry. I apologize. I picture somebody with a butt crack that long has. It's the smallest of buttholes. Just like Rob doesn't know numbers, I don't know science. I don't know biology here. So anyway, thank you to the person who sang this. By the way, Ringo's top three songs that he wrote, he has zero top 100 hits. Rob, we should post this on the Instagram. This is a pretty cool infographic, right? I think so, too. So I appreciate the voicemail. Nicely done. Listen, would I wish that they would ask us, like, what's our favorite kind of ice cream? Yeah, of course. Okay. That would be great. But I'll take graphics that help us. Even if maybe when I was studying the graphics earlier today, I obviously had no idea what was going on. Okay. That's disturbing how little I understood that graphic, Russell, by looking at it.
[18:00]And then you looked at it and you understood it instantly. I'm starting to have more self-doubts. Infographics is one of my favorite categories, Rob. Wow. Yes. You just love looking at infographics. Yeah. Have you ever seen where you should get on then? Russell? What's that? TikTok. TikTok has some fun infographics. I'm telling you, when you want to see what the top 100 songs are and they go up and change in the graphs and the songs playing. Guys, I'm telling you, now that summer's here and I don't have to teach anymore, I'm going to be on TikTok like 10 hours a day and I'm going to love it. My brain's going to melt right out my eyeballs and I can hardly wait. Okay. How many more hours is that than when you were teaching? Only a couple. Unfortunately, only a couple. There are times where I'll walk the dog and I'll have watched TikTok the whole time and I get to my place. Oh, God, I didn't realize I was here. Oh, my God. Old ladies and walkers are strewn to the side that I've ran into. I'm sure that's fine. So, all right, let's get into rolling going. Aaron, how's it going rolling with you?
[19:00]Screw that up. It's going rolling nice. A quick native plant update. Things are going really well. My Monardella is starting to bloom. I think we're going to get some good stuff out there. The Apricot Mallow, something ate the blooms on that one. You're an apricot guy, not an apricot guy? I mean, I don't know. I don't know. I'm trying it out. What do you think? I love it. The great apricots. If you're going to lean in, you got to lean all the way in. Right? Own it. Hey, here's a movie that would not do well, Aaron. Planet of the Apricots. I mean, that's not going to work. Apricots together. Wrong. Thank you, everybody. Thank you. Things are good in the native plant world. Now, did you ever wish that in that movie, Planet of the Apes, so the new one, of course, is Caesars. You'll never guess what would make that movie better. Rob, can you take your earphones off? All right, but you're going to regret it when you hear the joke after this. You guys remember at the end of last week when he said, sorry, I went so long, guys. That's my fault. This keeps going so long.
[20:00]Remember when he apologized to us and said he was going to change? He doesn't have to work for three months. We're going all night, Matt. All right. Okay, Rob, come on back. I never said I was going to change. I want to be clear about that. I didn't just apologize. Wait, you're supposed to have your headphones off. How did you hear us? I don't know. It's just like a dumbest of the dumb. Listen. What if instead of Caesar in that movie, it was Little Caesars? No. Pizza. Strong. If I could order Seamless right now and get just crazy bread to my house, I would do it. That's Little Caesars crazy bread. It was so good. It hit so hard. So, Aaron. It was. It was crazy. You had a mallow apricot. Now, I grow those in the swamp. They're my marshmallows. Yeah. I got that. The apricot mallow is beautiful orange flowers. It's also known as a desert globe mallow, but I think a deer or something ate that flower. So, I'm growing some sage because I think that's going to keep the deer away, but that's not the point. All right. I agree with you.
[21:00]Time to get it gone. Defend your house. Second amendment. The point tonight is that I need some advice, you guys. Uh-oh. Advice corner? Dang. I don't even know where it is anymore. Get to the corner. It's time for Russell's Advice Corner. Oh, yeah. All right. So, here's the deal. You guys remember last... This is early. I'm looking at this early, but I'm thinking about it. Last November, I went to the school auction, and I dressed as Pitbull, and I dressed as Prince. You recall, right? You're not thinking about this already, are you? Thinking about it already, because I need your advice. Who cannot think about that? I think about you... Anytime I hear Pitbull, there's a little part of me that hears you, that thinks about you for sure. Right. This year's event, the theme is the Olympics. So, I'm already thinking about what to do, and I've got an idea, and I need you guys to tell me if it's offensive or not. So, first, I said, hey... If you have to ask, right?
[22:00]If you have to ask. Right? I know. First, I said, hey, why don't we go with the Jamaican bobsled team? And I said, I don't want to wear spandex. So, that was out. Wow. Think about it. Think about the joke. And then... But what I've decided is, I need you guys to tell me, is this offensive? And the Olympics are coming up, so this is good. My thought is, we go as, and it doesn't matter who's who, we go as Bruce and Caitlyn Jenner. Is this offensive or not? I... Yes. Okay. Wait, so, I got to go back to the plan... You don't want to deadname people, right? You can't deadname people. But Bruce Jenner is an athlete who existed. Yeah, I would say you're making a political statement there, even if you don't think you are, by going as both Bruce and Caitlyn. Now, I would say the biggest problem with that is, I think... Caitlyn Jenner is a real fucking piece of shit. That would be my number one issue with that. That is true. Hey, I didn't mean to hit anybody with my car, okay? That was an accident. I don't have good coordination. Yeah, right.
[23:00]Right. Okay. Yeah, you're a dickhead. I got a question, though. So, somebody's planning this, and the Olympics are, like, in August. Right. So, by the time November comes, isn't this going to be, like, nobody's going to remember the Olympics anymore? Yeah, for sure. So, it's going to be, like, way out of the left field that we're doing the Olympics? Yeah, but that part's out of my control. So, I'm just trying to think of I'm trying to think of what to do. I'm already working it through, and I had this idea, and I thought, this seems offensive, but I thought I should check with the most morally strong people I know, and you guys, I'm getting a very strong vibe. Plus, the other thing is, you went to a thing where they didn't know who Beavis and Butthead were. Yeah. To do the Jenner bit, that's going to be a tough sell. Okay. Right? I think you could go as Brian Boitano, because you clearly want to dress up. You're going to end up in spandex. I know. I would just go as Brian Boitano. That's the other problem, is, number one, I'm going to have to wear a wig. There's not that many bald Olympians. I mean, I could do Kurt Angle, right? Brian Boitano, for sure.
[24:00]Is Brian Boitano bald? I don't think they're thinking of Scott, the other guy. Scott Hamilton. Oh, the other announcer. Yeah, Brian Boitano had a nice head of hair. Shit. Oh, I like that. We could do Scott Hamilton and, like, Terrell Lucas. Hey, Rob, you're all for two tonight on stuff. You want to take a guess at another thing you don't know? Oh, yeah. Yeah, me being wrong is going to stop me from talking. Sure. See you there. But I do like it when I can out-offensive Rob. Like, even Rob was going to be like, Aaron, don't go there. What are you doing? So I appreciate that. Then I know. That's my barometer. Now, which one would you have been? Would you have been Caitlyn Jenner? Because that would be the real switch. Well, probably. I mean, that was what we talked about. Like, maybe that's what we should do. Because I'd have to wear a wig either way with that one. And you put her in some short shorts just like you want? Okay, you sicko. This is about dressing your wife up. I mean, she's a big joke in California, especially in California. She's a big joke in the Bay Area anyway, because she tried to take down Newsom, and that was a total joke. So there's there's like that angle. Aaron, if you want to go as the two beach volleyball champions, I got a Speedo I'll send you.
[25:00]It'll be perfect. Oh, my God. We spent a fair amount of time watching those champions. I remember watching. Missy May and Carrie Trainor or something? Yeah, we watched them. Carrie Walsh and Missy May Trainor. Carrie Walsh and, yeah. You guys should both go as Brandi Chastain with your bra. Or was that the one? That was the World Cup. But it's still a nice idea. 0 for 3, Rob. Keep going. All right, well. How about this? You know what I'm going to say. You're going as Dan and Dave. Everybody at the party is going to love it. It's going to be a great. I do like Dan and Dave. That's a good one. Oh, yeah. One guy had short brown hair, and the other guy had long brown hair. So that costume, you're set. Very different. Yeah, very different. Do you guys own any Dan and Dave shirts? I did. Nope. All right, well. Your family obviously didn't own a clothing store that you got all your clothes from in Illinois. As I previously discussed. So, Aaron, good luck with that. You're absolutely screwed. Of course, I would wear a fencing outfit, I think, with that thing over your face. Yeah, great. That's great. I do have a USA Olympic windbreaker
[26:00]If you want me to mail it to you. I will take that. I mailed. Yeah, I will take that. All right, let me get out of the corner. Thank you, guys. Thanks for your help. You seriously want the chain mail mask, too, or not? Only one thing's ever gotten through it, I promise. Oh, I would. Oh, God. He didn't notice there was a hole in it. Bong smoke. Oh, my God. He's pulling a... What's his name? That football... Oh, come on, Rob. You can do it. Who is the guy who wore the mask at the NFL draft? Jeremy Tunsil. No, he's like, Laramie Tunsil. Laramie Tunsil. You're going to pull a Laramie Tunsil? You're going to be wearing a bong mask and be like, listen, this was... I brought it with my friends. We made some jokes. It got out of control. I forgot what I was going to do. I'm now Laramie Tunsil. Noted non-Olympian. How about... What if I went as Caitlin Clark and Anna went as Brianna Stewart, but we do it like Tanya Harding style, where I'm chasing her around with a pipe the whole time? Tanya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan is a good idea.
[27:00]That's pretty good. That's not a bad idea. That one will be done for sure. Someone will do that for sure. If we become a Caitlin Clark pocket, I'm out. I can't. Sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up. I actually super do not want to talk about it. We're only going to Russell. How's it going with Russell? Things are going... How about Christian Laettner, member of the Dream Team? You could go with that as that... Was it a South African gentleman with no legs, Aaron? I heard he's had a great life. Oh, wow. Oscar Pistorius would be a great one. Yeah, Michael Thorpe. No, Michael Phelps. And then you could have as many drinks as you want at the party. It's not a big deal. You're in character. I wanted to go as that one Russian wrestler, and then Annika goes Rulon Gardner. But once again, that's a real niche joke. You'd have to chop off a part of her toe. Remember that? Rulon Gardner won the gold medal. And by the way, if you look at how he won the gold medal, it was... It was the biggest bullshit gold medal win ever. It was a rule that existed in the Olympics for one year. Okay, this was on my TikTok, by the way. It was a rule that existed for one year. Rulon Gardner wins the gold medal, immediately goes out on a snowmobile, gets lost,
[28:00]Gets a ton of his toes lopped off due to frostbite. So that would be a cool part of the Rulon Gardner costume. Deep cut, though. Literally. I mean, right? The deepest of cuts. Rolling going, I was going to say things are going good, but I may have made one of the bigger mistakes I have ever made in the last, I would say, I don't know, at least 11 months to a year, maybe a little longer than that. I don't know how it's been, but probably the biggest mistake I've made with the upstairs roommate. It occurred about a week ago. All right, Russell. Okay, so you guys know what? I was telling you guys a few weeks ago about... This is safe space, by the way. How I was a great uncle. I took my nieces and nephews out on a Saturday. The next day, we had a kind of a family day where myself, upstairs roommate, my brother, his family, my sister, her family, a bunch of my cousins, all the one side of the family, kind of our generation decided we're going to go to a Saints game for an afternoon. St. Paul Saints, minor league baseball for people that don't live here. But minor league baseball, Mac probably adds to this,
[29:00]But like minor league baseball is fun. It's kind of less stressful than going to a twins game. You're not working through like a 40,000 seat stadium. It's easier to get to your seats. There's no lines for something to eat. The kids have, kids got to go run on the field and everything afterwards. They got to run the bases. Super good time. It was a great time going to the Saints game, but I made a big mistake at this game and I wanted to see if you guys had any advice on how I should handle it or apologize for such a mistake. All right, let's get into the advice corner, Russell. It's time for Russell's Advice Corner. Oh yeah. There's going to be some pleading going on. So love it. So we're going, we decided we're going to the Saints game. We got about 20 people going. So the first thing I do it. That's a mistake right there already. I've already heading down a bad path and we're probably talking 60% adults, 40% kids. So adults are over fucked, but so I,
[30:00]I'm willing to take on the responsibility of getting the tickets. You know, as you guys know, I'm back into sports. So I'm good at getting tickets. So I get tickets. Here's the way I do it. Three rows from one to seven, three rows in a row. So we've got, for our group, we're in three rows back to back. It's not one long rope because people can't talk to each other. If you're in one long, you got to go three rows, right? See, this is why you're in charge of tickets. Here's the other thing I do. I buy three extra tickets. So people just have a little more room. I figure we got a few kids running around. Why not? Why not just throw like another 75 bucks and just give us just a little more space, right? Russell, can I just say right now? Yeah. Whatever mistake you made must have been so bad. It's so heinous. It is pretty bad. Like, were you like caught doing something in the bathroom? Like whatever happened must be so bad. Because so far you are looking like an absolute rock star. You are looking like God's gift to earth right now.
[31:00]So I get the tickets. We're ready to go. I send the text out that morning. Hey, we're going to meet at the game. Game's at 2, like 2.10. We're going to meet at the stadium at 1.15. I've got the tickets. The problem is the tickets are not something that you can easily send to people. It's not like there's an app that you can text to people. Text them to the tickets come in like a PDF. So the only way I could get you the tickets is if I send you the whole PDF of all like 22 tickets. So not an easy way to just quickly send them to someone. So we get there and there's probably 16, 17 of us there and we're waiting on my cousin and her family to come, her and her husband and her kids. We're waiting a little bit and everyone else is there for the most part. And so finally, I'm just like, why don't I just scan you guys in? All you guys can go in. I'll just wait for them when they get here. We'll come in and we'll meet you over there, right? It seems like a reasonable thing to do, right? Yeah. So I go up and we start scanning people in one, two, three, probably scanning 16 of the 16 of like the 22 tickets.
[32:00]And when I'm up there, I kind of, well, can you, is there like a, can you check? Can you, is there any, you can go out and come back in, right? Like I can, I could go in and watch the game. When they get there, I can go back out the door. They're like, yeah, we'll, we'll stamp you. You can go right. All right, come back in. So I'm like, oh, perfect. I don't have to sit out here and wait. I can just go in. So everyone goes in and I go in last and we, we start walking through and you know, we walk through the stadium, we get to our seats, we sit down, my phone rings. It's the upstairs roommate. Oh, I pick up. She says, did you go in with everyone? Or are you still out here? The upstairs roommate was still waiting outside because she thought I was going to wait outside. You home alone there. I hope alone the upstairs roommate. Oh no. So you're inside. Now here's what I'm picturing. I'm in the seat, Rob. Huge beer. She's got a huge beer. She says, I made Russell's family disappear. I made Russell's family disappear.
[33:00]She's cheering out there. Yep. Wow. Russell. I pick up the phone and I immediately, I kind of look around and I'm like, well, this is a mistake. And so I'm like, I'll be right there. I'll come and get you. I'll check right in. So I've got to like, and the whole time, which is, I think so. You're hearing, yes. I've done this a couple of times, Russell. You're, you're, you're going to be okay. But I've done similar things where I've like left for the weekend without saying goodbye. And so I started to call it like, did you leave already? Like you didn't even say goodbye or anything like that. So yeah, I've gotten in trouble myself. I need to learn. I need to hear more about this. Russell, what, let me ask you this. Did you just leave here. Who cares? Aaron would never do this. They leave all the time without telling us. I don't see what the big deal is. Russell, what did you say when you picked up the phone? I'm going to judge you based on what were your first words to her? Did you say that you were inside sitting down?
[34:00]When I picked up, I didn't realize, I figured she maybe had stopped at the bar to get like, Hey, maybe I'll grab a drink. Maybe I'll grab some. I figured she just broke away from the group. Okay. In the stadium to get some. So what did she say to you? She goes, Hey, what's up? And she goes, did you go in the stadium? Okay. So right now I'm just, I'm just going to tell you right now, you hear that tone? You hear that tone that you're using right now? Yes. Red lights should be going off. This is red alert. You should be hitting the alarm. You should be manning battle stations. And whatever you want to say right away is the wrong thing to say. You should not say whatever you're about to say. Okay. What did you say to that Russell? When she said, did you already go out inside? I think I said, yeah, I think everyone went inside and I said, are you still outside? No, no. Okay. Russell, let's role play real quick. I'll be, I'll be you and you be your upstairs roommate. Okay. Ring, pick up. Hey, what's up? Where are you? Oh, I'm, I'm inside. I think everybody came inside. So you went inside with all your,
[35:00]Your cousins and their kids and your niece and nephews and brother and sister, but you forgot about me. No, no, no, no, no. I had to help. There was a lady right at the door. She had a walker. I had to open it. I had a letter and stuff spilled everywhere. I'm just picking it up, but I'm right on my way. I'm going to be there in like two minutes. You've told me about your thing with old ladies. I don't want to hear about these old ladies ever again. Oh, it's, it's, it's breaking up. No, no, no. We're not breaking up. Okay. Just ignore that. Russell, even when I was role playing, I screwed it up so bad. Oh, we're hopeless. We got no chance. So you go out there and you tell her, listen, you got to pay attention to me. Okay. I'm Russell. You can't put this tiger in a cage. I don't know. It feels like, Oh, one of the kids broke their leg and I was trying to help them out or something. Or like there was a, it was like a lost puppy. I had to take care of anything. Meanwhile, he's got a huge mustard stain on his shirt. Just onions everywhere. I'm like three broads deep, a couple of beers. I've got like a bag of mini donuts in my back pocket.
[36:00]Just in case empty your pocket. Yep. I knew it. Hot dog foil, three hot dog foils in there. But so I mean, I tried to like, this is where me being like a logical person doesn't help. And I was like, I was trying to make sure everyone got in and then let's say it's like, cause I'm thinking like nieces and nephews. I want to make sure like there's not a, we don't lose one of them. And then I left a very important person. That's true. It is her fault. Why wasn't she keeping it? I get it. Russell, there's kids and all stuff like that. I'm outside and you're inside Russell. What's going on in here? Okay. I agree with that impression. How long did it take her to like how long before things got back to, to normal? Like how long before everybody was having a good time? Everything was fine. Aaron, I don't know if they are. Russell, they're leaving and Russell goes, Hey, sorry about that. He gets in his car and drives home and realizes she's not in the
[37:00]Passenger seat. Oh shit. Not again. I think I, sometimes I get in like to be in the good uncle zone and then I, I fail in other areas of life. And I think that's what happened this last week. Listen you did say last week somebody asked, how do you guys know when you're taking on too much or whatever? Russell, you did say you started forgetting things. That's it. That's right. And you forgot your thing up front. I'll tell you what though. I think Russell, when you are in charge like that and you're just being the biggest baller and you're trying to help each other out, there's gotta be some forgiveness going around. So just simply explain that and say, Hey, listen, relax. Remember Russell, two words, a great marriage, relax. Don't worry about it. Okay. I will. What did the game? It's especially say, Rob told me to tell you relaxed. I talked it over with Rob and he said, relax. That seems like the number one thing to say. We got to leave my name out of things for just a little bit.
[38:00]And so I, I didn't redeem myself. Do you have a story to tell us? No, no, no trouble. Rob. Okay. Things are fine here. They're just fine. We're doing fine. Linking Morse code. He's saying divorce, but I don't think he's good at Morse code. I think that's a Morse code issue. He helped the Boris. I don't even know what that means. Well, why don't we divorce from this part of the advice corner? Matt, how's it going? Rolling? How's it going with you? You know what? We're double hopping out. We're hopping out twice to the advice. Russell. Once again, we are always happy to give you advice. Hey, Rob, I two fingers. Salute you. Oh, wow. You know what, Matt? My two fingers slue you. Oh, wow. You know what? Matt, before we get to you, I was, I'm about to make a major change in life. I want to see what you guys think of this. All right. By the way, yes, I'm excited. One of these announcements we've all been for. Oh, damn.
[39:00]I need some wedding music. Okay. I'm thinking about doing a two finger. So like, to every person I walked by, go like going, wow. Like I want a two figure salute, like 200 people a day. What do you think? It's better than, so I don't know. Why? Like Rob, I walked by you in the baseball. Card store. And you're looking at cards and they give you the, I give you the two finger. Is there no hellos though? So if somebody comes up to you and says, hello, and you just go like, I two finger salute. Wow. That means that everyone, you two finger salute is two finger saluting with everyone else. You have two fingers salute. Wow. Yes. Your two finger salute brothers. Yes. In theory, it could get all the way back to be like a full smell. My two finger salute. Oh, listen, no, man. What else to go with you? No what I recommend Russell? You just start doing what I started doing. You just start calling as many people boss as you possibly can. Oh yeah. Thanks boss. It feels, everybody loves it. They love getting called boss. It's a great thing. Somebody gives you a slice of pizza. Okay. Thanks boss. Rob.
[40:00]I agree. How do you feel when people call you big guy? Oh, wow. I mean, that's just part of the territory. You know, the sky is blue. Grass is green. People are going to call me big guy. That's like at my gym. They started calling me big Rob. But if you've got a world record, if you get a world record holder, squat, 800 pounds, whatever it is, your squad, you can, they can call you big Rob. I think that's warranted. No, I did not let them. And they call me, I tried to get the nickname, sad, Rob started going around the gym. I was like, call me sad, Rob. I was going to get to put on my weight belt, like sad Rob. But then I would say that as a joke and people would get sad. And I'd be like, oh, well, no, I'm actually, I'm actually the least sad person. You know, my life has been very easy. So Matt rolling, going, how's it going with you? Good. You know, I think we can all agree that we've got some turbulent times in the country. Oh my God. Left side, the right side. Finally. Yeah. Let's, let's get into this. Let's get into this.
[41:00]And somebody is attempting to bring both sides together. Wow. Finally. Is it little Caesars? There's great people on both sides. There can be great people on both sides. There's also bad people on both sides or delusional people, however you want to say it. I can't wait to see where this is going. Yep. And we've, we've brought up this person already on the podcast a number of times this week. The big bopper, baby. Nope. This person is trying to unite the country. Yeah. On a common goal. Okay. Of, of bringing, having a beer together with each other. Okay. Wow. Russell, buddy, Russell's buddy, Hulk Hogan is launching his own line of beer, which is meant to bring the country together. Wow. And I can't think of a dumber thing than I've ever heard. I've never heard that in my life. Why? That Hulk Hogan, Huck and beer. Huck and beer. He's, he's now schlepping beer to bring the country together. He's got, he's going to be in 17 states, including, he's coming to south St.
[42:00]Paul of all cities. Is that tomorrow? Or four weeks ago? The 18th. I think, what is that? Does that be Tuesday? Four days. Yeah. He's coming to a town on a Tuesday to schlep beer. God, he must be bored as hell. Okay. Right. Wow. So is nature a regional product? You can't bring the whole country together. Because you should drink beer. You should drink the beer that's made close to you. That's how. You should. And each region has different likes and takes on their beer and things like that. And so. I don't know. What's your guys thoughts? They're going to vote on my side of the aisle, Aaron. That's fine. I would happily come to your side of the aisle and drink a beer in your neighborhood. That's me. Aaron, I only drink Heineken's. But that's fine too. I actually like Heineken. Oh, okay. I do. You guys think he was. I don't know. He would send the gawker page of my magazine if I go to buy some beer or not. Yeah, I think for sure. I want what, Russell, I would want, I do want to know the, but again, I want to know the line, the size of the line for this for him selling his beer, because I'm going to go with, there's probably 25% of the people that will actually buy his beer. And the other 75 are there just for the old Hulkamania stuff, because,
[43:00]You know, I'm going to go with, there's probably 25% of the people that will actually buy his beer. And the other 75 are there just for the old Hulkamania stuff. Because he was awesome as a wrestler, right? Back in the eighties and nineties, things like that. But is this the Snoop Dogg selling Skechers? I think I, I seem to find these things. It feels like a Snoop Dogg selling Skechers kind of routine. I can almost guarantee that if you go to this Hulk Hogan selling beer event, where first of all, he like pours out and he's like, look at this brother and matches my skin tone, brother. And he's like, well what, I'm going to buy you a beer. I'm going to buy you a beer.
[44:00]These old guys, he's got all these surgeries And they're hunched over and I think they lose inch. It wouldn't surprise me if I've got an inch on him And that would be demoralizing. He was a very big man though. I mean, like he was not. And he's 70 years old. I was just going to say how old is he? He's 70, he's almost 80. Nog is to be sorry, 71. He's 70, almost 80. Listen, they on Hulk Hogan's Wikipedia, okay? Which is legit source, okay? A lot of teachers have told me that. It's claims that Hulk Hogan is six, seven. That can't, six, seven. And the rock is six, four? Find some pics of him next to Andre. Like he was tall, man. Like he was a big dude. Here, Google, here this. I have a picture of me and I am taller Than Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ain't no way Hogan is six, seven, Reddit. Yeah, you're definitely taller than Stone Cold. It's like, look at the one, the second one. You can kind of see their height.
[45:00]Yeah. He's probably got an inch or two on him, right? And I've got a picture of me when I was 20 years old And I was taller than Stone Cold Steve Austin. Are you serious? Well, what is Stone Cold six, two? He's five, 11. He's tall. So if he's six, two, there's no way Hulkster is six, seven. I think he's, I think he's maybe six, one. Now Russell, would you, if you go to that, Can you just do me one favor And just say yes right now Without finding what it is first? Does it have to do with the two to can? Oh, oh my God, Russell. Why would you say that to me right now? That's all like a picture. Okay, yeah, okay. If you can find out what Hulk Hogan's pubic hairs look like, Yes, of course, do that first. Do they look like his head heirs? So fine, Barbie hair. I don't think Hogan drinks anymore. Isn't he sober? I mean, most celebrities are. I think he would, I think he turned Christian All of a sudden and stuff, But yeah, he's got a lot going on. Okay. Wait, is it just one beer? Like there's no other styles. It's like one Hulk Hogan beer, that's it.
[46:00]Do onto your brother's wife As you would do onto yourself. It was probably made in what? It's probably made in Stevens Point Or Coldsburg. I was trying to figure out where it was made Or who's making it. If it's just Bushlight that's repackaged into Hulk Hogan beer or something, But. Alkster, I noticed that there's one set of footsteps There back on the beach. That's where I was in bed with your wife, brother. That's as hard as he's laughing at his own joke. We did, we had sushi for dinner tonight And almost every time we do this, My son eats way too much sushi And it's so. Like he's seven years old. Like he's like, Ah, literally that's like, Oh, podcast is over. We gotta go. Okay. We cannot make jokes about your kid And the Hulkster. Russell, you're like this. We got a text on our wordle chain today That just had the word great testicles. With this podcast has corrupted everybody's brain. This should be destroyed. I'm with you guys. We should not be doing this. Good night everyone.
[47:00]Thanks for listening. Aaron's kid cannot be going, And here it goes. Yeah, brother. Russell, bring him some sushi And say, does this beer go well with sushi? That's all I want you to do. See what he says. Sir, I've been watching Hulk Hogan promos here on my, You know what I realized Is I can play other audio on here And you guys don't hear it. So I've been, I've been listening to Hulkster probos About onto the giant. Russell. Saying my prayers and eating my vitamins, brother. If it's like, If we were having sex with Leo. What? Later on to Caprio. He'd be listening to his headphones on. You know what though? Worth it. Okay. Rolling going. How's it going to you? It's going great. Russell, I'm telling you, If you like watching Hulk Hogan things, You would love TikTok. TikTok is right up your fucking alley dude. You would wipe. That's all you'd see. God, you'd love it. You think it's great. Listen, I've had some issues At my family. Listen, my family's falling apart At the seams. Okay. And it's the way they eat things.
[48:00]I cannot put up with my dumb family And the dumb way that they eat things. Okay. Number one, My kid is eating cereal the other day. Now my course, my kid, All she eats right now is cereal. She comes home, My kid right now can have dinner At either 4pm or 945. She is busy all the other time. So she's like, She comes over and she's like, Where's dinner? Like what? What? You're lucky I'm even home. Oh, yeah, it's only at 45. I'm not heating anything up. You got to make it fresh. So I have to keep one burger patty fresh. And then when she gets home, Cook it like I'm a line cook. You know, I'm like, Oh, okay, I'll make some fries too. Keep it in the fridge or out on the counter. Oh, yeah. We'll keep it on the sleeve and patty on the counter. I feel bad for Rob that he can't feed his kids. He's got to go to like Jiu-Jitsu class And everything. He doesn't have time to make sure His kids could subsist. That's no joke. That was this week. That's exactly what happened. That's a long time between sets As a powerlifter. He can't like, It's like three hours. There's rice in the rice cooker And there's some meat and goo
[49:00]In the slow cooker. Put it together. I don't know. Listen, the first 14 hours of the day, Rob has played video games, But he has no time to deal with this shit. That is also very accurate Over the last couple of days, Russell. I have made some terrible time management decisions. Okay. That will shock you. You also technically owe me an edit By tomorrow afternoon. Hey, I'm halfway done with that. Three point. I respect your authority on that one for sure. Now listen, My kids at home eating cereal On their way off to do theater And swimming and whatever. She says, Gross, Dad, can you eat this? She hands it to me. It is the biggest. And I don't know if other honey bunches of oats eaters Are noticing this. The clusters are getting bigger. Oh, okay. The clusters are getting huge. She pulled out a huge cluster And said, Oh, I don't like this part And handed it to me. Clusters are the best part. I was like, What the fuck? Who are you? Why are you eating this? She does. Yeah. She wants the cat food part. Yeah, I don't get it. It makes no sense to me. She's like,
[50:00]All these clusters I don't like them. I'm like, Huh? I was like here, Give me your blood. We're DNA testing you right now. Cause none of this makes sense to me. Hey, terrible. Then I go out to my wife. She gets buffalo wings. All right. You said to go out to eat with my wife. You went to, Okay. You had to go all the way to Buffalo. Oh, okay. Yeah. You guys want me to make Kind of Lingus jokes about my wife. No, you said it. I said I'm going out to eat. You guys are sickos. I'm trying to have a normal conversation. Yeah. So she said, You said you're going to eat your wife. I said I'm going out to eat with my wife. The width was unintelligible. Well, they were serving buffalo wings at the Y. So I was going to eat the Y with my wife. Now. Okay. Here's the thing. The way she eats buffalo wings is disgusting. Number one. There's no wrong way to eat buffalo wings. He's about to tell you what. Okay, Aaron. You know what, Aaron? No, no. Okay. This is, guess what? You married this person. They eat buffalo wings like this.
[51:00]Now you're stuck with this. Listen to this. Number one, just the drumsticks. That's all they eat when they order buffalo wings. I don't see a problem with that. Okay. You're fighting so far. The flats are good. I mean. Exactly. She will not even touch them. Fine, exactly. I don't disagree. She eats a drumstick And I would guess that she leaves anywhere From 30 to 50% of the meat on the bone. She takes two bites and is done. Takes a little bit off, says that's enough, puts it back. At that point, I'm like, I can't pick these up and put them in my mouth. Like I'm some sort of caveman, can I? Like there's tons of, There's a lot of good cartilage on there still. The nut goes right on there. You know, nobody's chewed on that for a little bit. It disgusts me how my family's eating things currently. Thank God I got a stick. But did you eat the left? But you definitely ate at least one of the drumsticks, Right? Well, yeah, you had to. I mean, yeah. But you have to do it kind of discreetly Because they're in front of her and it's like, ugh. If the chickens gave their lives So that you can enjoy some chicken wings,
[52:00]You've got to honor their sacrifice. Exactly. I try to bring that up too. If she gets married, they're only alive To then die for your. Yeah. That's true, man. Fuck those chickens. Fuck those chickens. Okay. Rob only gets the ones that are in those little pens The whole time, Aaron. You know what? They're tastier. I eat chicken wings at bars. I'm not hating on it. I'm just saying you got to eat the wings Given to you. So listen, my family, we just got to shape up, okay? Listen to my family. I'm just going to tell you this right now And listen close, okay? I'm out of here. All right, let's get to the album. No. It's a music shot, guys. Let's talk about the album. Oh, yeah. Okay, we are talking about meet the Beatles, okay? Is it possibly one of the most boring albums of all time? Yes, of course it is, okay? But we're still talking about it When it comes to the Beatles. The problem is the highs are so high That you knew we had to get to this original album At some point and here we are.
[53:00]Rob, a year ago the Beatles were known Only to patrons of Liverpool pubs. Today, there isn't a Britisher who doesn't know their names And their fame has spread quickly around the world. Said one American visitor to England Only a hermit could be unaware of the Beatles And he'd have to be beyond the range of television, Newspapers, radios, records and rioting fans. Said another American, They're the biggest hottest property Of the history of English show business. Blah, blah, blah, blah. And here is their first Capitol record, 12 of their most sensational songs In the wildest Needlemania style. That's the summary on the back of the record cover. That is so good, Russell. I don't think we need to do any more. I think we need to do it until next week. And you know, what if I was smart I would? Listen, on the cover, Russell, read what it says On the top of that album in the front. What does it say? It says the first album by England's phenomenal combo. There it is, right there.
[54:00]It says the first album, however, 10 days prior to this release, VJ Records of Chicago actually had the rights To the Beatles first album that was released in the UK And released it 10 days prior to this album coming out. What the fuck? It's crazy and that's an album called Introducing the Beatles. That was released just before. This basically introducing the Beatles, That album stalled at number two on the charts Because guess what was number one? This one, Meet the Beatles, okay? This album debuts at number 92. Two weeks later, it goes all the way up to number one. It remains up there for 11 consecutive weeks, Eventually replaced by the Beatles' second album. So this was up there until the Beatles Came out with another album. I gotta tell you, if you look at what the Beatles, Listen to this is what they're beating this week. At number two, You Don't Own Me by Leslie Gore.
[55:00]At number four, Surfinn Bird. Number six, Louis. So the Beatles are taking on Louis By the Kingsman. Ricky Nelson for you. I mean, just all these songs Where if you listen to these songs That they're on the list with, They are old ass songs. They are Bob Newhart-ass songs. And all of a sudden, the Beatles are coming in With this brand new kind of music. They're blowing the doors off of everybody. I know, brand new kind of music. We know their music was derivative. Of course, and of course it was derivative. And they said a lot of these songs, They are trying to go with a Smokey Robinson type sound, okay? But again, it's 1964. You get a bunch of white guys from Britain. They're covering this rock and roll. And all of a sudden it's okay For everybody to listen to it. They totally blow up. This is the absolute beginning of Beatle-mean- Beat- Beatle-manious. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. Oh my God. I can help you if you want. Yeah, please, Russell, help me. Whatever it is, the Beatle-smoke, Robust row-ring sound is simulated
[56:00]A reaction in the English themselves Described as beatomania. Does it say anywhere on the album? This is definitely a song your grandma got fingered to. I want to hold your hand. Russell, is that copy of mono or stereo? Does it say? This one does not specifically say. Because I don't think it matters anymore, But now all this stuff is out there On streaming in both options. Like there's just a thousand ways To listen to this music. Aaron, it does say on the back. Oh no, this must be mono. It says also available in stereo. So I must have the mono version. All right. I mean, that feels like real OG stuff. But the record, the actual record is still upstairs, But my mom had written like the day she got it. It said like September, whatever, 1, 1964. It's written on the back. Oh my God. That's so cool. Russell, do not kiss that record if it's mono. Oh my God. Terrible. This was never on an album in the UK. It came out as a single.
[57:00]In the US, this was number one for five weeks, the single. I mean, these first two songs absolutely fucking rule. Like, I don't need to hear the Beatles anymore. I'm not enjoying it that much, But these two songs just rock. Could you just hit the opening, The very beginning of the track again, Rob? That's a great start to the album. Is it? Unbelievable. Yep. I could see where this, you dropped the needle on this. You gotta call your friends in. Hey, I know we just got anoculated from polio, But get in here, listen to this. And it's a great guitar set. I mean, they really, like they have a real sound And a real perspective on music that was theirs. So I give them that. Now, here's the song that was originally called She's Just Seventeen. And thankfully they changed it. I saw her standing there. Song starts with the one, two, three, four. Similar song we heard a few weeks ago From Coolio that started with a one, two, three, four.
[58:00]Yeah. Oh yeah, it gets rolling on the floor. Up and down list. It was a great, a lot of people are talking About that up and down list. We're getting a lot of feedback on that. You know, we've talked, I actually looked this up. We've talked about songs that start With a one, two, three before. We did it on the James Brown album. Wow. Raspberry Bray, Woolly Bully, U2 Vertigo, Outcast, Hey Ya, And the new radicals. Remember the new radicals? Oh, yeah. You only get what you give. Hey, can I fucking tell you, My kid was doing math the other day And it is involved radicals. And I was like, oh, I was like, whoa, fuck me. I was like, shit's square root of a, I don't even remember what a radical is anymore. That's how bad it is. This boy, this is one Beatles performed live On Ed Sullivan. They were proud of the three-part harmony on this one. I gotta say, if you turn on Ed Sullivan And you heard this song, you'd be like, Why did I buy that time machine? What a waste of my money.
[59:00]Kind of a loser. It's like a wrestling pay-per-view though, Rob. You gotta bring it down sometimes. You gotta bring it down And then you gotta ramp it back up once in a while. That's true. It does sound good. A picture of this, you're coming out against Luai. You're coming out against a surfing bird. We're also like two years from Bob Newhart Winning a Grammy, right? Yeah. Her best album. Totally true. This is a Lennon song. There's a, it won't be long. There's a lot of yeah, yeahs on this album. That's one of their signature phrases on the album. It's kind of a bop though. Oh, I hear it. Do you hear that in the background? No. Time machine. It's me and that Preston guy. Yeah, like, I don't know. All this stuff is like hindsight is 20, 20, But you hear these songs, It really feels like Paul was like driving their sound. Like you just, the bass sound to me like really makes it.
[1:00:00]There's certain parts of where you can hear them Becoming really interesting musically Compared to like, I hate to keep saying it, But surfing bird. Like, and then you know that the- Everybody's heard about the bird. About the bird. Yes, exactly. But you know that they're gonna come Like musically sophisticated. Like you can just hear it, Even with this record, And you know they wrote these songs so fast. You know they had to come up with them quick. This is the first song ever, they think, To have bass chords in it, Where the bass player plays chords. Of course it's Paul McCartney, So it makes sense. Lennon said, yeah, we're trying to do Smokey Robbins. And he said, this song was written About like, with the American market in mind, Because in Britain, The concept of calling a girl on the phone was so foreign. It's nothing, you would never sing about it. But so play something from Smokey Robbins in 1964.
[1:01:00]Like if we're gonna do this Find a Smokey Robinson in the Miracle song from 64. It's like on the first one, I like it like that. Yeah. This is his highest charting Hot 100 track of 1960, 64. I've never heard this song. I mean, yeah, it's not really fair, Like I've ever listened to Smokey sing With either John or Paul. There's no shots of John or Paul, but. But it is interesting if you hear this, You can hear a lot of this with the, Kind of the walking bass line a little bit. There's a lot of this album for sure. I think this is a great call, very smart. I just wanted to hear it. Like if that's what they're well-grown, They're like, hear what was in their ears,
[1:02:00]Well, what if I go Smokey? Let me try this real quick. Robinson, 1963. Yeah, right. That's when they would've listened. I mean, Mickey's Monkey, I don't know. What the hell is Mickey's Monkey? Oh, that's one of their favorite songs. Have you never heard Mickey's Monkey? No, I've never heard Mickey's Monkey. Oh my God. Have you heard Mickey's Monkey? Of course. This is a famous one by you. All right, now here we go. I want a dupe. I want dupe. This is a reminder that Snowy Robinson released To the album last year. And Aaron, lead us to some of the tracks From that album again. What was that called again, Aaron? Gazzems. Gazzems. He released Gazzems in 2023, or no, 2024 maybe. No, 23. That's crazy. That's crazy. I know we got a lot of music to get through, But I wanted to hear what they were listening to.
[1:03:00]It did make me think, though, Do you guys ever remember calling girls on the phone? Like what a stressful experience that was Where you had to call a house phone? Yeah, if their parents answered and all that. I remember I'd be like, okay, I'm gonna go to the bathroom first. I'm gonna be totally focused. I'm gonna have my place. I'm gonna walk around. Now the problem was if you called a girl From the bathroom what the key was. What's that? A flush. It's really echoey. Well, no, you wouldn't flush, Aaron. That's crazy. That's crazier. It's a key. I would say if they say, why is it so echoey? You say, oh, I made my garage. I'm working on the Corvette. Yes, right. Yeah. I've got a muscle car out here. Okay. You got a Corvette? Yeah, I crashed it. I crashed it with my motorcycle a few weeks ago. Russell, you're so smooth. Oh Russell, thanks for calling me on the phone. Hey, I was out on my motorcycle Last time I was thinking about you. Oh my God. Oh my God, I was thinking about you for 70 feet.
[1:04:00]That's crazy. How big is the engine on your motorcycle, Russell? Oh, oh, oh, oh. I got a car. I got a car. I got a car. And he sorted technical information. I didn't mean my buddies for engine real gold. I believe for my teeth, man. Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. My mom's here, and she's not letting me listen to any records. I'll show her one day. All right. Next up, all my lovin'. Close your eyes. Oh, thanks, Rob. But listen to this. I mean, listen to the bass back there. Yeah, I'll do the work, man. And then John Lennon came on and said, Oh, I love my rhythm guitar on this. If you're really listening, it sounds great. Yeah. Now, man, you leaving and not telling your spouse That you're leaving makes me think, How often, when you're gone, How often are you contacting home? Not a lot. You know, especially if I'm going
[1:05:00]For work, like a night or something, Because usually you're out to dinner or something. So not a lot, but if it's more than a couple nights, And Sarah probably doesn't really care to talk to me, But I've heard maybe called, Leo's got a watch now. He's got an Apple watch. So I can at least text him and check in and stuff like that. Yeah. How about you, Aaron? How often do you contact home if you're gone? I'm just judging to see how I'm doing. Like every hour or so? Or like, if there's something interesting, Or like I'm sending pictures of me and Rob or whatever. There's nothing. Can I just tell you this right now? There's nothing my wife loves more than getting pictures of me in Vegas. She loves it. She has lots of questions. She's really interested. Oh, what games are those? What are you betting on? Tell me more. Is that a badminton coach? What are these pictures doing on our digital picture frame That you forgot automatically uploads for pictures you've taken? She definitely looks too short and stocky to be a volleyball coach, right? Why is there this picture of you Where everybody else is eating shawarma
[1:06:00]And you're leaned up against the poles outside? It doesn't seem like you actually went inside to eat anything. I hope you're not sick the next day And you have to miss a big chunk of the football game. Rob, why are you holding Aaron's cigarettes again? Hey, Rob, I know it's 9 p.m. There is rust down from his room yet and stuff like that. She's always asking me questions like that. Why do you have Darren's belt? Yeah. Oh, wow. That would be a bummer, wouldn't it? If somebody used your belt, You could at least clean it off. That was a good belt. That was a good belt. I like that belt, too. Don't bother me. This was George's first song, right, in 1964. He doesn't get another in an album until 65. This one sounded different, though. It was like a little more psychedelic. It felt like a later Beatles song. George was always like that. He was always at the forefront.
[1:07:00]He was always two steps ahead. Yeah. I love it. A little extra reverb on there. He is the one who left the Beatles And all of a sudden basically came out with the biggest bangers Right off the bat. He was like, oh, check this shit out. Yeah. It's like what's going to happen if I leave the pod. Oh, a new podcast. I would love to hear Russell's New podcast. Just a solo. Is he going to wife swap with another host From a different podcast? If Russell did another podcast, What would we want to hear a podcast on? You know what I was thinking, Russell, we should do? Here's the deal. How long were the Beatles together? They were together like eight years, right? 12 years. 12 years. Listen, we're going to beat the Beatles with this podcast. That's our goal. As soon as we get together longer than the Beatles, We're done. So what are we going to do that far? I mean, they basically made it to 69 or 70, But they were together in the fifties. Nice. In some form, right? We're going to do a podcast where we show where Russ, We watch movies that Russ hasn't seen.
[1:08:00]Right. So we're watching Minion. We're watching airplane. We're watching Rambo to Minions. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Russell, what would be the first movie to watch On your Russell movie podcast? The movies that I haven't seen. Yeah. That's where you're like, fuck, I should really see that movie. Probably any sort of Marvel comic movie. I've never seen any of them. Oh, that's impressive. Actually, you're better off. It gets so confusing and you got to keep up. I started falling asleep during a Russell. So that's what I knew. I don't need to go to it anymore. Yeah, but there are some bangers in there, Russell, that first Captain America movie. Iron Man 2. The one with the... Is that the one where the guy has the whip? Yeah. Elon Musk, my hero is in that one. God, that's gonna be... You're gonna watch that right now. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Yes. He is Rob's hero. Yes. Yeah. This is Little Child. Lenny McCarty wrote this for Ringo. And then they said, that's album filler.
[1:09:00]Rob, you were saying this is kind of the Beatles. Some of their biggest hits in the U.S. Came here. And I think this really starts the British invasion, right? This is like these groups from Britain start coming over. They start taking over all the top spots in the pop charts, All these bands start coming over. So I thought we could real quick go through the greatest songs Ever from the British invasion. Wow. Yeah. We're doing a British invasion. Was there an end of the British invasion? There actually is. What I was reading is the British invasion, A lot of people say ended with pet sounds. In 1966, we've talked about pet sounds. And a lot of people think that the Beach Boys kind of like Took over like the height of creative Pop or rock music in the midst in 66. And they defended their shores. Yeah. And so that's when like, what was the Beatles that, There was a revolver that came right after, Wasn't revolver kind of like a response to pet sounds If I remember back three and a half, four years ago? Four fucking years ago.
[1:10:00]The call went out. Britain, the royal majesty invading our shores With their rock and roll music. Have a taste of me, Nux. Who's there to answer the call? It's a bunch of guys who talk about surfing cars And what their life was like in high school. Some other guys, the wrecking crew. Honestly, yeah. A bunch of guys talking about how their life was better In high school is the perfect precursor to this podcast. To the Beach Boys, including Uncle Jesse, we salute you. Huh. So I think, Aaron, the British invasion is like 64 is to 66 is what I was writing. Yeah. And we've talked about some of these bands. We've done a lot of Rolling Stones before. Satisfaction is kind of considered the British invasion song, But we've talked stones. We've talked to who. So we're not going to talk about those ones. We're going to skip ahead without this band, Rob. We'd have no kinks. We're going to go with the kinks. You really got me.
[1:11:00]1964. King Shaming. So this Beatle album is what year? 64, I think. 64. So this has come out that same time. It comes out, I think, shortly after it. But one of the big things is Dave Davies, One of the, I think the guitar players, He was the one who like slashed his speaker with a razor blade And kind of created a different sound That became very popular in rock music. So Rob, we would have no kinks. You would have no categories on your websites If it weren't for this band. Wow. I was over at somebody's house the other day And I made them watch the Man Get Stuck in Balloon video. It's so good. All right. Next song on the list. We're staying in 1964. Maybe talked about this once before. It's The Animals. It's The House of the Rising Sun. Oh, good song. This is a British band? Yes. What the hell? They're singing about Warrens?
[1:12:00]I think I knew that. Eric Burton? Wow. That doesn't seem rare. When I was reading, The Beatles had like five straight number one hits And then The House of the Rising Sun Was kind of the first British band That had a number one after the Beatles Dominated with this Meet the Beatles album. Wow. And this song is so rugged. You know, it's just like tear your guts out. I remember listening to this song growing up and being like, Song with a fucking message. Yeah. Look out for The House of the Rising Sun. Next song on the list. We're staying in 1964, Matt. It's not Zombie by the Cranberries Or whatever that band is. This is The Zombies. The song is She's Not There. This is so good. Don't bother trying to fight her. You know the famous zombie story in Russia? What's that? Is that The Zombies would tour the U.S. But nobody knew what they looked like. So ZZ Top got their start saying they were The Zombies
[1:13:00]And going to places and playing The Zombies songs. What? It's so good. Because I can tell you, I know what The Zombies don't look like. Fuck it, ZZ Top. That's clever, man. Who had a better run? The Zombies the band or Zombies in modern TV shows? Are you guys a zombie team, like a Walking Dead guys or not? I was in for like the first three seasons of The Walking Dead. I was there for a little bit and then I had to kind of bail. I don't know. How far did you get with The Walking Dead, Russell? Were you watching some of the spin-offs? I made it through about the first six seasons or so. I made it about halfway in and then I couldn't do it anymore. Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot because every time they'd be like, Oh God, we'll never get out of this bunch of fucking Zombies. Then they did, but then there'd be guys like normal humans. They'd be like, well, these guys are really bad. We could never get out of this. And then a bunch of Zombies come and kill those guys And they're like, we'll never get out of this. If the four of us were in a zombie apocalypse, Like what roles would we take? Like it's us for, we're protecting like Northfield,
[1:14:00]The college city we're in. Like what roles do we take in the zombie apocalypse? I'd probably be the leader in brains of the operation. You'd be the brains? Yeah. Okay. Okay. That'd be like a season and a half show. We all died. Hey, I'm starving. We should trust these guys. I'm so hungry. Rob would be the guy like, We have to venture down to Target in town. I need some pop charts. We got to know. Yeah. I need some gold bond. So bad. We've been running from these zombies for so long. Next on the list, 1966. This is the drugs. The song is wild thing. I thought animals was the best song on this list, But this is hard to top this song. This is so good. Yeah. I mean, it's one of those songs you hear so much, You don't even think about it, but. They wrote this song for Ricky Vaughn
[1:15:00]When he was playing for the Indians. That was pretty cool. Yeah. Well it's the second best version ever written, right? You like the X one? The best ever course was by Sam Kinnison. What's that? Do you guys remember that when he did Wild Thing? No. What? You don't remember? Oh boy. Sam Kinnison, Wild Thing. Sam Kinnison was at his height of a comic, Which is wild by the way, if you watch this stand up. Don't do it. He's the guy like just screams at you, right? Yeah. No, absolutely not. No way. He died. He died exactly how you thought he died. You know what I mean? Like in a car, going fast, tons of pills. But here's Sam Kinnison's Wild Thing. Now there is Aerosmith. Yeah. Slash is there. Famous. He's playing his video. Tommy Lee. Yeah. So you know what? British Invasion. Oh, Billy Idol.
[1:16:00]Billy Idol. This is exactly what the Brits just shake. They just put their head down and shake. Shake their head. They see things. God, he could just print money. Couldn't he? He could just do whatever he wanted to make money. God damn, Sam Kinnison. The main guy from the Trogs. His name was Chip Taylor. The only fact I found about him is he liked to gamble a lot, Rob. $10,000 a day, they said. $10,000 a day. But the other interesting fact about him, He was the brother of John Voight and the uncle of Angelina Jolie. Wow. Wow. I'd wear a vial of blood around my neck for him. Bring it on, Billy Bob. Remember? I gave you a second time clip. There's part of that song, Wild Thing. You get, Rob, we almost hit it last time. There's kind of like a whistling sound. It's called an ocarina. It's an eastern instrument. Ocarina, yep. Ocarina. You know what, Matt? It is. I guarantee Matt knows it from Zelda. How do you know it, Matt? My mother-in-law, Patty,
[1:17:00]Long time listener to the... Stick them in glory holes. Big fan. Erin. Has given them to my kids. That's my friend's mother-in-law you're talking about. Wow. Go ahead, Matt. Patty has a couple ocarinas and has given a couple to the kids Over the years, things like that. Does she play the ocarina? That's a good question. There's one someone else who does play the ocarina, And it's someone in John Mellancamp's bed. Check this out. This is an homage back to the Wild Thing song. It's the same thing. They're playing the ocarina. Check this out. What? This is an homage to the British invasion in ROCK in the USA. They're playing the ocarina. I read that. I was like, that's wild, isn't it? Wow. I remember hearing this every time I hear this song. We'd never put two and two together. It's the same tune from Wild Thing and ROCK in the USA. There is a Zelda video game called Ocarina of Time, Which is how I know an ocarina.
[1:18:00]In case if you're wondering if I'm actually a smart guy, The answer is yes. Yes. This song on the list from 1965, The song is Heart Full of Soul. The band is The Yardbirds. I love this. I might love the British invasion. That was surprising. And you guys might not know, We've talked about The Yardbirds a few times before. This was actually The Yardbirds' first single After Jeff Back replaced Eric Clapton As the lead guitar player. And so that guitar sound is like intended To kind of imitate a sitar, The Indian instrument we've talked about before With the Beatles before. But so I got to ask you guys, When it comes to the British invasion, Who did it better? Jeff Back did it better. Wow, Russell. That was an all-time list. It was pretty good. The British invasion's got some songs. Yeah, there's some bops to that. Some songs that didn't make it. I don't know, Donovan, are you guys Donovan fans?
[1:19:00]I don't really know Donovan. I do love Donovan. Yeah, he's pretty good. And then the other one, Manfred Mann, Do What Did He, Is also a British invasion song. Do What Did He? You're telling me that this is a British song? That's crazy to me. And it didn't make the list? Making it right now, Matt. Yeah, addendum to the list. This is the most American song I've ever heard in my life. British invasion. Wow. Now, why do I associate this with KFC? What's the reason for that? Did they use this in an ad? I do not recall. It makes me want some original recipe. What recipe are you getting, Rob? You go into a KFC. What's your order? No judgment. No one knows. No one knows what you get. What do you get? I probably extra crispy with gravy. I don't even know.
[1:20:00]I bet I haven't been to a KFC in 10 years. The one that opened close. There's only one? I think I would do just chicken, right? I don't think I would do any side. I think I'd just go with a lot of chicken. Like a big bucket, whatever the biggest bucket is. The gravy was so good. I have a distinct memory in football in high school. They brought KFC back to the locker room After a playoff win. And I had my gloves on. And I was just taking chicken and dipping it into the gravy. And I was unaffected because I was wearing gloves. And I was like, this might be the greatest. I mean, it's one of the things I remember. I was like 17. I distinctly remember dipping gravy in with gloves And eating it and thinking like this is the, I was like, this is what it's like to be a pro athlete. This is what it's like. I can eat gravy whenever I want. Oh, next up. Okay. I wrote beat the Beatles here too. We've got tell there was you. This is a cover from the music man. I decided today this is the best Beatles song. It's this one and across the universe.
[1:21:00]Were you headphones in it, Aaron or not? No, no headphones. Should I have been headphones in? I had, I was to send the headphones. And this is where I thought headphones are a must in this. This is where they're coming at you from different sides of your brain. So it is a good one. What makes this your favorite Beatles song? That's crazy by the way, Aaron. It's not, they didn't even write this. I just love it. I just love it. I know of course they didn't write it. I love Paul's voice here. I love that they decided to do this one. I just love everything about it. Did you just say of course they didn't write it? Like we're all fucking morons if we didn't know that. Is that what you meant by that or not? No, I wait, of course it didn't fucking write it. It was obvious. It's from music. It's from music man. It is from the music man Russell, which I did not know. I didn't know that either. Movie number one on them on the podcast, the music man. I have no idea what you're talking about. If you're from Iowa, you have to know music man. It's from Iowa. So like that's it to the Iowa fact. You got to know that. You can talk. You can talk. Yeah. You know, Russell, listen, the music man, I went and saw the music man and guess who was
[1:22:00]Now the music man is about a con man in a small town in Iowa. Russell, guess who the music man was? Steve Buscemi. Hugh Jackman. Hugh Jackman. And then what I saw, it was unbelievable. He was like jumping on the desk. He was so good looking that when he was on the stage, you could not look Anywhere else. You're like, Oh, I get why he's a fucking movie star. It's unbelievable. And then when he wasn't there, you're like, what's kind of sucks? Where's Hugh Jackman? Then he come out and you'd be like, yeah, there'd be scenes where he was like Trying to hide in the crowd. You'd be like, Oh, fuck, there's Hugh Jackman. That's Wolverine. He's right back there. He was so good and he was getting bulked up for this new Wolverine movie. So he was fucking huge. He's supposed to be kind of this little smarmy like con man. And instead you're like, well, why doesn't Hugh Jackman just beat The shit out of everybody in this town and make them by instruments? It would work just fine. Hold me tight. Now this is one of the rare songs that both Len and McCartney have Said they hate it. Fair. They actually recorded for their first album and didn't even make That.
[1:23:00]You know Hugh Jackman's wife is 13 years older than him. Oh yeah. What would you, do you think you could have handled a wife who was That much older than you or not? Let's see. When I was 18, she would be 31. Absolutely. God, that'd be, I'd love that. I'm telling you, my wife right now is entering this phase, Russell. I don't know what's going on. I do. She's getting, she's gaining weight. No, you can't do that. Thanks. I know you said that last night too. I know you're married to a 60 year old right now. Could you handle that? Oh yeah. Yeah. Sure. Oh yeah. They're always, from what I can tell online, they're always Getting stuck in the dryers and whatnot. So I would be just fine. He's there to help them. Oh yeah, kind of. Now listen, I want to be your man. This, the chorus on this song bops, they wrote this song in the Studio in front of the Rolling Stones who they gave it to. And the Rolling Stones had their first number one hit with this
[1:24:00]Song. The Rolling Stones saw them write it and they were like, hey, Here's a song real quick. The Rolling Stones said it was unbelievable to watch them Write a song. It was just like, so fast. I mean, Russell, isn't that part of the fun of that Beatles Documentary where they're just writing songs and you can See how they do it. It's cool to watch them kind of work their way through and Start with kind of a basic someone's playing An instrument, then they're kind of humming words and Then all of a sudden they're throwing out different lyrics That it's a, it's a must watch. Here's the Stones version. Just give you an idea of different songs. Sounds like Herb Helper. Sounds kind of sweet. Not a second time. Now, Aaron, the end of the song, which I picked here, Is said to have an Aeolian cadence, much like at the end Of Mahler's song of earth. So some of the alien cadence or chord progression or scale?
[1:25:00]Aeolian cadence is what it says. Hey, now that doesn't what Aeolian cadence Makes me think of? What? Bleep, Blorb. Get up onto the stage, Bleep, Blorb. You're at Area 51. Remember that movie is here. That could be episode two on our podcast that features You and Matt. Oh, right. I forgot what season, what episode we are of season two now. Season two of our podcast. Oh, this is a disaster. Listen. Hey, we're talking about Meet the Beatles. I'd let you edit it if you want. Would that be like the worst for you, Rob? If I was like, I don't really want your comedic stylings Or the way you organize things, But I feel like you're pretty good at audacity And putting tracks together. That would be brutal. You think you're a better producer or a host? Because you're both, you do both on this podcast. You produce and you host. You're a good producer. I do think I'm a good producer. If people listen to what our raw files sounded like
[1:26:00]Before I cleaned it up and moved things, So we're not talking over each other, I think they would be shocked. Like, I don't know what the fuck is going on At your guys' place where you're banging on your desk Or whatever. There's a lot of that shit getting out. I will tell you that right now. I've got this bowl of lemons and limes it gets. Sometimes they get bumped. See, Rob? Russ is holding up a bowl of lemon and limes In case you guys are wondering at home. He's not lying. He is telling the truth. You might think, oh, is this a bit? It is not a bit. He's got a bit of vitamin C in that bowl With some lemons and limes. Now, Russell, meet the Beatles. You got John. You got George. You got Paul. You got Ringo. I panicked there in the middle. I was worried I wasn't going to get up. This is their first album in the United States. There's a lot of hits on here, And then there's some songs that I never heard of before, Including that one from the Music Band. If I hadn't done my research, I wouldn't have known What it's from. Is this a rolling well-toned? It belongs perfectly at $197. It's way down on the list, but it's still the Beatles.
[1:27:00]Is it a rolling groan? This album should not be at $197. We've already had enough Beatles. It should be higher up on the list. Is this a rolling boned? It should have been higher on the list. Why is it so low? This got boned. Russell, what do you think? Rolling well-toned, rolling boned, or rolling groaned? I think this is the album that starts the British invasion. Listen to some of the songs we talked about, And some of those songs are pretty influential. Rob, you would have no kinks If it weren't for You Really Got Me. None of those categories you would have. I'm looking, I'm going through my mom's old records, And I would say there were a handful of records When I took them stolen from my mom's house a few years ago. I was like, damn, that's cool. One of them was Stevie Wonder songs in the Key of Life. The other one was Meet the Beatles. I was like, this has to be a huge one. This just seems too influential. They became a driving force in pop music in America. I've got to say this is rolling boned. I think it should be higher on the list.
[1:28:00]I don't love all the songs, But sometimes you got to look at What the meaning was at the time it came out. And for me, this seems like it was too important, too big. Some of the bands we've listened to Over the last six months or so, You can't tell me those are more important than this one. So I'm going to say rolling boned. It's higher on the list, Even though it's not necessarily my favorite, But I could listen to it again, rolling boned. I'll say my mom's record most time yelling at me For wearing my socks outside. I can see that. I bet you're a socks and sandals guy. Just throw them in the wash. I had much the same opinion, Aaron. The problem is the wash was full of candy bar rappers. Aaron, rolling well-toned, rolling boned, And rolling grown. What do you think? They could be dads. Those could be dad's rappers. Russell makes some really good points, And I did go through a strong Beatles phase of my life, But I kept thinking about this In the context of sports, right? Human beings are getting faster and they're getting stronger. They're getting better at what they do.
[1:29:00]There wouldn't be an Alan Iverson without Bob Coosie. There wouldn't be a Joellen Bede without George Micken. Rob, you put this in a porn star type thing for Rob. He's not going to be able to relate to any of this, Aaron. There wouldn't be an Aaron Donald Without some other detact like I can't think of. But so, at some point, This album has to fall off the list. You can't, if the point of this list Is let's immortalize albums Because they belong in the Smithsonian, Then, yes, this one stays on. If the point of the list is aliens come to Earth And we have to save Earth by playing them the 500 best albums Up against their 500 best albums, you can't play this one. I don't think. You said we can't play this one, But we could play the B-52s. I'm signing off. Listen, we'll get to that next week. No spoilers. No spoilers. I'm not ready for that. So I kind of feel like this is an important historical document.
[1:30:00]I think the first two tracks absolutely rule. I think Tilda, who's you is one of my favorite covers of all time, But I still have to say it's a rolling groan. Now, listen, I got to say this, Aaron, we get it. Okay. You don't like Jerry West. Okay. We're recording this a little bit ahead of time. I don't think anything's going to go wrong. I think it's fine. Okay. Well, we don't give a shit about Jerry West. I talked about this with one of our listeners. I always left him for bringing Katie to the Warriors. Matt. Rolling well-toned rolling bone or rolling groan? I'm sorry he died, but I did love what he was like. When he was like, throw it down, big man. Throw it down. That Jerry West was great on commentary for all those years. Oh no. Wow. And a great cyclist. Note to self, look up those jokes later. Bill Walton. I fucked up Bill Walton, Jerry West type deal. Yeah. It's like an Oasis offspring kind of joke. I got to say Bill Walton's death did bump me out. That was a big tic-tac moment for me. I was watching a lot of Bill Walton highlights for sure.
[1:31:00]Okay. Jerry West laughed. I wish I would have said that. I'm going to edit that out. Matt. What do you think? Rolling well-toned rolling. Edit that out, Rob. Don't not edit that out. I swear to God. This is me I'm talking about here. Rob, it's okay. He died in a plane crash. You can make fun of it. You're fine. Oh God. Sorry. Nothing better than making fun of dead people for me and dead. We're going to get to mass rolling. Only Laker to do that. Like what I do with my little league team, right? And just stop talking. I'm more on Aaron's side of this thing. I think this is rolling girl. And I think this is like 90% filler of an album kind of a thing. I think their later stuff is so much better than this. I don't know if I'm going to go along with without this album, There's not all these other musicians going on. I don't know. It's just, it's a little goofy for me.
[1:32:00]It feels a little poppy, a little light, a little cheesy maybe is a little bit of a strong word. But I don't, this is not the Beatles that I will listen to or ever want to come back and listen to. You know, I think it's much more of a rubber soul and after kind of a thing. So I'm going to say it's rolling grown. There's better albums out there that the aliens can listen to. Unfortunately, you guys are incorrect. What? I can't believe it. Well we took opposite sides. We're both incorrect. We're all incorrect. Because this gets a rolling. Well, the thing is Russell, there's not just the three options. A lot of people don't really, you guys haven't realized that 197. You guys haven't realized that. The other option is this gets a rolling smoky Robin's zone. Robin's own. Yeah. They love that American Motown song sound. They loved a smoky Robinson. They wanted to sound just like it. So they put out an album and yet you can hear them get bored with it on the subsequent albums. They're coming up with more original stuff. This is the start of everything we've listened to is coming from this album and then the evolution from it.
[1:33:00]Now, I would even argue this, right? I think when we listen to those British Invasion songs, I think the best song on this album is better than the best song on that British Invasion list. Right? And I love that list, but the Beatles just have it and you can hear it here, Especially when you listen, compare them to their contemporaries. Okay. Now, are they as fun as the B-52s that we'll get to next week? We'll see what Rob makes of that album. He might think it's silly and fun. Next up. Oh, shit. I shouldn't have said that right before I'm going to do this part. Okay. Act like I didn't say that last part. It's the band. What? I forgot what I wrote. I'm sorry. It's the band that made me realize jacking off in my shed in the backyard was actually normal and cool. I don't know. It's a love shack, Dad. And I didn't know you were coming back to get the grass seed. When you want to hear about the greatest albums of all time. But you're just too lazy to look at a bomb. You'll come up with that on a scratch.
[1:34:00]That comes from something deep, dark. This is where you don't want to admit it ever happened. This is an OJ moment. You tell yourself this never, ever happened. And you got to believe it. That did it better. It's better than if it were the other way around. And he was like, Rob, I didn't know you were coming back to get the grass seed. Did you unplug my disco balls? I was like, yeah. All these extension chords were going into you. Would you unplug my disco balls when you're done, please? Can I just say this, guys? If we have to play our 500 albums against the aliens, 500 best albums, And we do that, I got a great place that the aliens could come with us afterwards. Okay? I'm down to the stage. Mac and me. Come on out to the stage. Put your grin in and drop your linen, Mac and me. Huh? Mac and me? Okay. What's an alien? Oh, Russell, that's movie number three. We got to put that shit on the list. Okay? It's like, oh, well, you should.
[1:35:00]It's basically ET for smart people. Save it. As another record, my mom has what was hot as mom.
