[04:04]let's get into our voicemail so stupid i can kiss my ass dumb shit listeners they can't even tell
[04:11]what we're doing dumbest of the dumb god so dumb shits they're just the dumbest of the dumb we got
[04:15]a long message today believe it or not shocker
[04:18]all right all right i got a two-part uh call today um i'm gonna start with uh rob's bad takes
[04:25]russ was totally right horrible movie takes from rob bears buehler just the story come on
[04:31]uh classics and also no popcorn in movie theaters definitely a horrible take uh you need to redeem
[04:38]yourself rob and feel i just want to say right now if you agree with me please text into the
[04:43]beck line hashtag rob is right and that's an evergreen one you can just text that in whenever
[04:47]you want but if you think popcorn is no good or ferris bueller is bad or a christmas story is bad
[04:52]hashtag rob is haven't you haven't you already asked for that like three times no one no one
[04:57]has said rob is right we're gonna we're gonna get some calls on the fourth time of begging for
[05:02]somebody to agree with you i feel like maybe our text box is all full i'm not quite sure how that
[05:05]technology works but i think it's that's that has happened that has happened a lot of our listeners
[05:10]do still text with the a a you know abc then they have to push it three times to get to the c you
[05:15]know they still have a lot of flip phones so it might be taking them a while they might be
[05:17]click one one for b okay you guys know what i'm talking about okay here we go
[05:21]feel free to um feel free to pick on me for that but aaron's dad was right about your bad takes
[05:29]except the part about the drake realize definitely still suck uh god all right now i got a bone to
[05:36]pick with russ uh talking about you guys this was a layup for us a complete layup another layup
[05:41]cut him off cut him off taking a bow with me they can go flag kite get out of here
[05:47]okay well let's see because he might be saying something really smart although so far he says
[05:53]some really dumb shit the movie theaters russ with his complimentary um movie going story from
[05:59]a number of episodes ago somewhere in between zero and 69 i'm not sure which talked about the
[06:05]complimentary movie well i may happen to know some of the guys that he complimentary movies with
[06:09]and know them well and one of the ones that we complimentary the bad news bears reboot a terrible
[06:16]reboot of a movie
[06:17]we didn't sneak anything in however we did sneak out the back door uh not we somebody else i know
[06:26]happened to sneak out the back door walked over to cub foods and picked up the 3-2 minnesota beer
[06:30]because you can't get beer after a certain hour in minnesota and so you have to go to a grocery
[06:36]store and get the warm crappy 3-2 beer snuck it back in through that same back door happened to
[06:42]have a celebration when the bad news bears celebrated at the end of it at the end of the
[06:45]championship that they lost oh jesus
[06:47]uh keep up the great work guys love the show bye so picture uh russell's backdoor santa of sorts
[06:53]coming in with this crappy 3-2 beer and when the bad news bears lose at the end they raise an actual
[06:58]beer in the uh theater according to matt totally legal at the time i've drank some bad drinks on
[07:03]this but i have never stooped to 3-2 beer at least within recent years so i do not think i was a part
[07:08]of sneaking any 3-2 beer into the big bad news bears did you see the bad news bears reboot in
[07:14]the movie theater russell is that the billy bob thornton one i have no i think so well then i
[07:19]think the if the answer is no it's too late to be believable i kind of caught myself red-handed
[07:25]but that one i love the idea i love the idea that you're like oh i got a lot to do i'm pretty busy
[07:32]but you know i better go check out this bad news bears reboot let's see what it's got in rotten
[07:36]tomatoes negative six well that can't be good oh well let's go so russell what is the so you would
[07:41]do complimentary movies i forgot that you'd even i told you guys that i had friends that would do a
[07:46]thing called complimentary movies and they were guys i grew up with and one they were they were
[07:51]two years younger than me so we were we were friends growing up but we weren't always in the
[07:55]same grade so i remember coming back from college one year and i went to a movie with these guys and
[07:59]i don't recall it being the bad news bears but it very well could have been and we walked up and
[08:05]like we're gonna get tickets and three of my buddies just walked right by the kid they just
[08:09]walked by him and they're like we're going complimentary
[08:11]i was like what are you talking about they're like this high school kid is not gonna stop us
[08:15]we're just going in to see it so like three or four of them walked in i did not participate in
[08:20]that i wouldn't pay for my ticket oh i thought you meant complimentary i thought one movie theater was
[08:25]uh 60 degrees and one movie theater is 30 degrees and so it's complimentary i think i made that joke
[08:31]last time too actually i was gonna say there's probably a january 6th joke to be made in there
[08:35]but i'm not gonna make it no aaron let's dig in that i like that i love to be on some
[08:41]actually i love it the downloads would be great if one of us could commit a federal crime i think
[08:46]it'd be great we'd have to subpoena this whole thing downloads galore did you guys have a favorite
[08:50]bad news bears movie back in the day did you guys ever get into those or not i've not seen any of
[08:55]them a favorite bad news bears absolutely not i think movies from the 70s suck they're not good
[09:03]like i will say the taking of pelham 123 with walter matho i did watch i thought that was
[09:07]really good but there's just something about like i don't know what they thought was funny back then
[09:11]like do i really need to see a kid say the n-word over and over is that is that something i need to
[09:16]see in a movie experience like you're just full of funny stuff tonight aren't you i'm just saying
[09:20]keeping it light just keeping it light that was in the bad news bears like i doubt it was in the
[09:26]remake i don't think they had billy bob doing that but still something to think about i don't know do
[09:31]you guys have any movies that everyone else likes that you guys hate if i'm so stupid for not liking
[09:35]ferris bueller which does suck by the way it is boring i do not like the movies what is who's the
[09:41]the ten and bombs and all those oh my god i love those movies wes anderson movies wes anderson
[09:46]movies i think people who like those are complete morons i'm out on wes anderson movies i think
[09:51]they're terrible rushmore is one of my favorite movies of all time oh that's like a really
[09:55]influential movie what's your favorite line from rushmore there's there's only one good one but
[10:00]uh what's your favorite line these are these are or scrubs oh are they
[10:04]these are my or pants oh or it's the one where he's like i didn't know you wrestle
[10:11]yeah i'm on the b squad he goes out and immediately gets pinned in the first
[10:14]0.5 seconds i'd love that movie it's so good aaron what about you do you have a movie that
[10:18]everyone else seems to love and you just don't get it no i get all the movies i always understand
[10:22]movies i can i would never there's no time when are you a movie guy because you seem more like
[10:27]a music nerd rather than a movie yeah i i'm not now i mean i always try to watch the oscar
[10:31]nominated films because um i i want to like i mean at this point it's anything with gary oldman
[10:37]i just can't like i tried to watch manc last year because it was oscar nominated in the
[10:41]anytime that guy shows up i'm just tired of seeing his face uh so like i don't know i don't
[10:46]watch batman begins anymore because i'm just tired of gary oldman even though i loved i mean fifth
[10:50]element is in my top five movies of all time but yeah i i i um i can't think of any movies that
[10:55]everyone likes that i don't like i love the idea that you're like oh the one movie i just can't
[11:00]watch anymore batman begins it's like it's a classic that everyone else is putting it on all
[11:04]the time my kids are always saying papa papa please let us watch batman begins we love mr
[11:09]freeze or whatever i'm just like i can't watch gary oldman anymore
[11:11]and then like dark knight was great but now you watch it you're like well this movie is a mess i
[11:15]don't understand what he's doing and then dark knight returns like even bigger mess it's just
[11:19]like no one waving his hands like yeah don't you know don't pay any attention to the man behind the
[11:23]curtain you're not really telling you a story don't get me started about movies rob you don't
[11:26]want to hear about this i i realize why we're not a movie podcast none of us knows anything about
[11:30]movies we all are just sitting here like what about matt matt oh yeah like we know a lot like
[11:35]like we know a lot about music i would say i know more about didn't stop us from starting a music
[11:41]podcast i i personally can't watch or i just it just i fall asleep in the movie theaters if it's
[11:49]anything with a comic book hero superhero something like that like all of the x-men stuff
[11:55]and what's the latest one that's going on avengers oh i mean it's they've got some great like action
[12:01]scenes but like trying to follow the storylines and who's and where and i will say though that
[12:06]going to those movies is hilarious and fun at the same time because there's always that role
[12:11]of guys and it's usually four guys in their early 40s who have nothing better to do on a
[12:17]tuesday night but go to a xbox or you know avengers movie and there's two guys i will
[12:22]scratch out my plans for tomorrow night but okay we're gonna i'm gonna take a rain check as well
[12:26]russell that's that's on me but there's but they know everything right and so there'll be some
[12:30]obscure like reference to like black panther or something right and like uh i don't know what's
[12:36]another x-men character okay so first of all these are avengers these aren't x-men it's totally it's
[12:41]avengers so like black widow so like black widow all of a sudden it'll be a black panther
[12:46]oh my god did you see that you know they're going nuts because they're getting some hidden reference
[12:51]that you know the the movie makers so i don't know i think it's hilarious to go to those meanwhile
[12:55]you're prying milk duds out of your molars for like 45 minutes right oh no no that's the best
[13:00]part about those those things hang around for a while you just let those things hang let them
[13:05]marinate in there for a little bit and get some cavities filled the next day i have told i have
[13:09]told everybody on this podcast i'm dumb i have told everybody on this podcast i'm dumb i have told
[13:11]a small brain i'm a dumb guy i just don't know it because my brain is so small i can't comprehend
[13:15]how dumb i am that's a real thing my milk duds comment has gotten me so much hate in real life
[13:20]i had somebody sit down with me the other day for five minutes to be like are you serious they think
[13:24]i'm joking about milk duds milk duds are not good they're like it's caramel and it's chocolate i'm
[13:30]like yeah and it sucks the texture sucks the two best things put together i think number one is
[13:36]chocolate and peanut butter in the form of like a reese's peanut butter cup something yeah obviously
[13:41]chocolate and caramel is a close second yeah one a and one b so guess what have a caramello where
[13:46]the caramel is actually the way it should be in a nice uh really greasy you can't eat a caramello
[13:52]without the without the caramel coming out sticking to the paper sticking to your lips
[13:56]that's the beauty of it you try to wipe it off and it rolls up into some kind of weird
[14:00]yes milk duds totally not sticky i mean if you want the absolute liquid caramel you go with
[14:05]caramello if you want something a little bit maybe a little bit uh more congealed you go with the rollo
[14:11]if you want that you know if you want that caramel that's you know it's going to be stuck to your
[14:16]teeth for a long time you go with the milk duds all chocolate all caramel it's just a little bit
[14:21]of flavor a little variation on it so i will say this i'm a sucker for the caramel corn when i get
[14:26]the three tin of popcorn that caramel corn gone no cheese gone butter goes in the garbage don't
[14:32]need it who cares i like matt's comments about with the 40 the row of 40 year old guys at the
[14:37]movies reminds me of times when i'd be at a dive bar and be like wow these people are going to be
[14:41]sure are here pretty often at this dive bar and now you're one of them yeah like well you're there
[14:47]to watch them and you're there yeah you're there just enough times to realize that those people
[14:52]it's like it's like you know how they say one out of every three people are cheating right and
[14:57]you're like i don't know if it's my wife or my girlfriend but one of them is not doing something
[15:02]that's supposed to be i might have tooth problems though that might be it because you know what one
[15:06]of my favorite candy bars is what a three musketeers i think i just like sour foods i
[15:11]just like goo i like eating goo food and you can just gum it i do i like a three musketeers and i
[15:18]know that's an unpopular opinion okay you just chew that with your tongue in the roof of your
[15:22]mouth like i love it use my teeth on this oh my god i love food where i really don't have to use
[15:27]my teeth that's why i think i love ice cream so much i've sent you guys like four pictures of
[15:31]ice cream in the last one butterscotch pudding three musketeers and oatmeal that's it that's
[15:37]what rob likes my pictures that i've sent to these guys the last couple of weeks have been
[15:41]me eating ice cream just pictures of ice cream nothing special just ice cream in a bowl
[15:45]and then a picture of me holding a chef knife to my crotch to emulate what it must like to be air
[15:50]how did you feel when you when you held that chef knife down there did you feel
[15:53]any differently i just felt such power i felt so i felt like such a man it was unbelievable like
[15:59]my life i'm convinced my life would be so much different if i had a huge dong i just know i
[16:05]would be more confident i'd be more like i would never have been like oh let's uh let's make
[16:11]out but like let's just take our shirts off and like that's it and nothing else like oh that'd be
[16:15]rosie do you think your life's different i mean do you think your life's like better in any way
[16:19]because of that you gotta at least start with the shirts off like i mean you maybe gotta go
[16:24]more than that but i mean it's like you don't want to leave them on i don't know you're on the right
[16:28]track no i i when i was with somebody like getting naked me getting naked was like date 10 i was like
[16:35]okay let's let's maybe do the thing where i'm eating sushi off you or whatever okay that's not
[16:41]okay i just ruined this conversation let's get it rolling
[16:43]great i'm stuck on the podcast now with the guy with the two big wings
[16:57]uh all right rolling going aaron rolling going how is it going with you tonight
[17:03]man it's rolling going really well i got a bunch of stuff so i'm gonna just i'm gonna just
[17:07]i'm gonna i'm gonna steal matt's idea i'm gonna do the list the first thing i have to do
[17:11]is i have to issue a beck did it better i have to issue an apology uh at the end of last week's
[17:17]episode when rob mentioned what album we're talking about this week i believe that i said
[17:21]that bernard purdy plays on lady soul i was incorrect he plays on now an apology young
[17:27]gifted and black so i we're not gonna hear from bernard purdy tonight we are gonna hear some good
[17:32]playing apologies to everyone so that was a mistake yeah on my part aaron you're what okay
[17:41]to say this right now strike one yep okay fair that's fair i deserve that that's fair out of all
[17:46]the things you've out of all the things you've done on this podcast and that apology your dad
[17:50]had to be thinking here it comes here comes my apology and then you're like no i got something
[17:54]music wrong i don't want to get it wrong i mean you know it's like you want it's like it's like
[17:59]if you try to make a joke every 90 seconds on this podcast and then you didn't quite make some
[18:03]of them right like if i try to say something smart about music and i say it wrong i gotta i gotta own
[18:07]up to it so and sometimes you say things that are really offensive and you just have to edit them
[18:11]out and then nobody knows except for your co-hosts who often look at you with abject terror in their
[18:16]eyes that what you said is going to go public uh but i gotta you know it's end of it's the end of
[18:21]2021 although i know this will be released in june of 2022 or so but uh i've been taking stock
[18:28]of things i did in 2021 one thing i did was finally finish a book that i started that i
[18:33]purchased at the beginning of the pandemic in march of 2020 clifford finally finished
[18:38]finally finished how to lie about my giant
[18:41]dong i finally finished dead astronauts by jeff vandermeer and this was a piece of art that was
[18:47]like you had to really work for it to enjoy it and i didn't it's one of those things where i didn't
[18:52]enjoy it until about the last 50 pages because i didn't figure out how to read it so now i have
[18:56]to read it again so shout out to art that makes you work for it what's a piece of art or something
[19:00]that that you guys had to work for to enjoy that then then you you felt was rewarding and what's
[19:06]something that you just wouldn't work for that when i went to see the van gogh experience the the
[19:11]i did get to sit on the bench but the bench was not very comfortable so i had to like like there
[19:16]was no back on the bench so i had to like sit in an uncomfortable position and act like i was really
[19:21]enjoying it when really the whole time i was just like man i wish i had a chair with a back
[19:25]yeah that's fair that's rough i honestly think jazz is something like that like i'm not a huge
[19:30]jazz guy but when you learn about jazz and you put some time into actually learning what's going
[19:36]on and what they're going for and what the different types are i think it's just so much
[19:39]more rewarding uh when you actually have an idea of like oh like just just me knowing for example
[19:44]the difference between bebop and modalities and like more of the freestyle stuff like i that just
[19:49]has made it much more interesting to me when i'm just listening to it on my own i you know and part
[19:54]and like i said i think when we started with jazz is like why listen to this to feel smart but now
[19:58]i actually kind of feel a little bit smart about it i get i just enjoy it so much more but i'm you
[20:02]know i'm a smart guy so it's beautiful i would also say theoretical physics too but that's like
[20:06]second so i don't know
[20:09]i mean there's there's a number of these that always come up right like you always wonder why
[20:14]uh why something's in the louvre right in paris like what makes it lou worthy
[20:19]and you know so i still have no idea on some of it and i wish i could know a lot more about i mean
[20:25]there's only so many hours in the day i'd rather listen to music than read about painters i guess
[20:29]kind of a thing but um you know when you're there you're like how or why is this important and
[20:35]things like that so every i mean i've been to the louvre twice oh i'm glad you're there
[20:39]yeah hopefully go back a number of times because i think it's just well one i love paris but
[20:45]i'm going there it's just it's awesome to see the different um eras i guess and you know again what
[20:52]what does somebody think is art same thing as music why did why is it on the top 500 albums
[20:58]list of all time right that kind of a thing and so i don't know we're kind of diving into some of
[21:02]that here with this venture we're on and i think we all are a little bit better because of it but
[21:07]you know the the art world
[21:09]that's that's our next podcast that's great that's great oh yeah and obviously we're the
[21:13]kind of art that people have to work to appreciate so i like that that exactly ties back to the kind
[21:18]of art that we're producing for the world yeah if if you're wondering just i'll just say fucking
[21:22]beach boys and then the real players know why that's fun that's it yeah and then i got a quick
[21:29]lego update fuck legos yeah they've taken over i can't stop stepping on them these creations all
[21:37]all over the damn house
[21:39]boundaries yeah you gotta set some boundaries son is so into them that he won't take a break
[21:43]even though he's mad and can't focus anymore and he's like no i'm gonna build this landspeeder and
[21:48]we're like why else need to break uh he's also we're we're a very firm you know no toy gun
[21:52]household yeah we did get some star wars lego sets that have blasters still about age six i
[21:58]figured out rosie okay we're on the same yeah we're on the same trajectory but that's about
[22:03]six yeah so we're trying i'm glad to hear math that you were you were uh i mean i'm always going
[22:09]to matt for advice on all this stuff but he has figured out that he can say like oh mom that like
[22:14]this is a blaster in my star wars set but this blaster shoots love this is a love i use that
[22:21]my sophomore year of college i know exactly what he's going for yeah right it's a great line yeah
[22:26]i was gonna say that's not the first time aaron's wife has heard that pickup line right aaron i was
[22:31]trying to set rob up for the soundbite this one's a love blaster oh okay uh give me that nut oh wait
[22:39]wrong one that's my bad that's what i'm gonna start calling my penis the love blaster so that's
[22:44]it i got it now or it could be or it could be like kind of like a like a uh okay now i get to
[22:50]go to bed blaster that's what i'm gonna start you know what i mean it's like okay just kind of like
[22:54]a i'm kind of medium about it like it's that's what i'm gonna start calling my penis i put up
[22:58]with that because i know the fight's gonna be bigger if we don't use the love blaster that's
[23:02]what i'm gonna start calling my penis have you gotten uh sets rosie are we just doing straight
[23:07]up blocks yeah i know we got things we got a bunch of sets yeah we got i currently have let's see i
[23:13]think i've got 15 of these sets to take apart i'm taking these sons of bitches apart what's putting
[23:20]them you know and putting them in the mail putting in bags and then reselling them oh there's nothing
[23:24]better than buy it send it to me and then there we probably have 15 of this uh hidden sides thing
[23:30]and about 10 harry potter and we got a couple new harry potters for christmas things like that
[23:35]but save the box to save the books rosie
[23:37]because there'll be some point where you like gotta get these things out of here
[23:40]and it'll feel so you'll feel so much better that if you're like hey i got a complete set
[23:46]somebody else will take it as opposed to just throwing it throwing it into one big bin and
[23:51]being like well that was a huge waste of fifteen thousand dollars but yeah thanks for selling me
[23:56]this kit on craigslist can i see why it says love blaster real big on the outside like that doesn't
[24:02]make a ton of sense to me love blaster you gotta tell them to start saying they're tranquilizer
[24:06]darts that's what they do in the movie
[24:07]just say they're tranquilizer birds yes it's probably better yeah
[24:10]also i think your penis looks bigger because you have a small house i didn't know where to put that
[24:17]in but i'm just gonna stick that in right now i feel like it's kind of like having small balls
[24:21]you know it's like it's like trimming your pubic hair like straight i was trying to seed the floor
[24:25]to someone i thought my rolling oh my god you're doing it standing up too we know that's a young
[24:34]man's game seeding the floor girls
[24:37]disgusting that's when you know you're having a rough day is when you're seeding the floor
[24:42]i'll just deal with that later i'm so sleepy uh all right matt rolling going how's it going with
[24:48]you uh good good i've got a social situation that i need to ask you guys your opinion the advice
[24:55]corner sounds like you need to go to the corner well i don't know if it's i don't know if it's
[24:58]that but like nope i already hit it russell's i don't get social advice yeah corner i don't get
[25:06]too worried about it i don't get too worried about it i don't get too worried about it
[25:07]too many things right like somebody doesn't like my shoes or you know like what i'm wearing whatever
[25:12]i feel comfortable right but every time somebody says do you want a piece of gum i feel like i've
[25:19]been walking around with the worst breath in the world the last hour i mean is that true like woods
[25:25]if you have a if you have a pack of gum in your pocket okay would you do you just randomly offer
[25:31]it to people just out of the goodness of your heart or do you only offering a piece of gum
[25:35]to somebody when you know they've got bad breath
[25:37]it's got to be random because my wife offers me gum all the time so it's got to be just be a thing
[25:42]where you're just being nice it's got to be i don't know i'm not a gum guy i've never i don't
[25:46]carry around gum in my pocket is that because your breath smells like mulch oh erin erin erin
[25:52]do we need to have your wife like pull you out of this one tonight you're you're yeah erin come on
[25:57]he's got mulch around the tiny house with the love blaster
[26:02]but and then do you ever let anybody know that they've got bad breath
[26:07]i never let anybody know like no there's never what is to be gained by doing no nothing i would
[26:12]only offer gum to someone who has nice smelling breath if someone were near me and they had bad
[26:17]breath i would never offer them gum i would not want to but are you how often do you smell
[26:21]somebody's breath like in a week never i mean do you ever smell anybody's breath like i barely
[26:25]even smell anymore but like there i mean there was there was a guy i used to work with had horrible
[26:29]breath right there's a buddy of mine horrible breath i know he's got horrible every time i
[26:33]hang out with him he's got horrible but not one of you three somebody from richfield's
[26:37]don't worry about it you know things like that like there are people who have issues right i don't
[26:42]think i got issues but again every time i it's like i go into this clam and then i stop talking
[26:47]to people like this you know instead of you know things like that and like the mask thing i think
[26:52]this helped a whole bunch of people but i don't know that's that's like the one social situation
[26:56]where somebody's like would you like a piece of gum i'm like i i always i tell my kids it's the
[27:02]four second rule right if a person can't fix it in four seconds don't tell them about it they don't
[27:05]need to know like if they can't fix it right then you're not helping them by telling them what's
[27:09]going on rob does that mean jenny has told you that you can fix your love life because you're
[27:14]able to do it in under four seconds yeah no trust me i made the joke before but i would love to do
[27:20]it under four seconds okay sometimes maybe under four seconds would be better than like 45 minutes
[27:24]when everybody actually really gets mad and then you have to have a real conversation about stuff
[27:28]so uh no i i think i don't know i i no i man if somebody's offering you gum i wouldn't worry i'm
[27:35]gonna say this the masks have made me realize that i'm a fucking monster like everything i do
[27:40]i'm a terrible person my mask smelled terrible i burped once i almost barfed when i burped in my
[27:46]mask it was terrible i was like what is this is this me is this what i'm like like it's awful i
[27:51]so how often do you wash these masks rob i just have a lot of masks
[27:56]i just did what i just keep buying i did what i do to solve so many problems is i just i just
[28:02]bought a ton of masks actually i do have the problem though with shoes like for a long time
[28:05]my shoes smell terrible i have terrible smelling feet you can wash yeah but i just bought a ton of
[28:10]shoes i have like eight pairs of shoes that i rotate and i also found i need to be very specific
[28:15]about the kind of socks i buy but it's like you know it's just something you deal with as an adult
[28:19]and you got to kind of figure out and guess what sometimes you put on the wrong socks and sometimes
[28:23]your breath is going to sink stink you come over sometime man i'll smell your breath i'll get way
[28:27]in there i'll tell you all right i'll be honest with you well i'll i will see you in about three
[28:31]weeks
[28:35]this is not an open i'll see you at the link and we will you know how i was always talking
[28:40]is that you lick the back of your hand and you smell it yeah okay yeah yeah oh christ oh god
[28:48]oh god mistake huge mistake then you're good mine smells like somehow it's friendly with you man
[28:55]coffee and old cereal i don't know when people offer you to the gum are they giving gum to
[28:59]themselves as well or is they just offering it they are just i think they're just being nice
[29:04]that if they're if they're taking it but it
[29:05]but yeah but then it's like it's even worse when it's like in a work situation right like if you're
[29:11]you know it's not just like hey hanging out at the sports page watching go for football
[29:15]you know hey have some gum kind of a thing right it's like 7 p.m central magic mike
[29:19]sports page do you think man what if you just started smoking cigarettes like maybe just go
[29:25]all the way like just cover it all the way up smoke some marble reds i mean who cares anymore
[29:30]right those are my favorite you know i don't i only know a couple people who smoke cigarettes
[29:34]you know and usually i don't know a couple people who smoke cigarettes you know and usually i don't
[29:35]it's when we're in vegas january 14th at the lake you know some people just have problems i mean
[29:43]it's like it's like they just go nuts all of a sudden you know and sometimes those people
[29:49]they start to smell a little different maybe bad breath would be okay compared to the smoke smell
[29:54]that they've got on them i don't know yeah some people when they're when they start smoking like
[29:57]that too they realize right away how uh off-putting it is because you instantly have to stand way away
[30:02]from everybody and now the people you're hanging out with are the exact opposite of people that
[30:05]you actually want to be hanging with and they realize almost instantly it was a mistake but
[30:09]suddenly they're hooked after one or two and they actually can't stop or it makes them feel bad so
[30:14]something to think about man have you ever thought too the person who's probably giving you gum is
[30:18]probably someone who has bad breath themselves like they're they're aware of what the problem
[30:22]they have i think they just don't want to be rude by having one on their own smelling bad is like a
[30:26]top three fear right though like i don't know i always thought maybe it's just me as a big guy
[30:31]but like i think smelling bad is an all-time fear right it's like smelling bad
[30:35]uh your balls coming out when you're teaching uh social situations in general just like yeah
[30:42]just like being around yeah other humans russ finding out about our text chain stuff like that
[30:47]i mean it's scary stuff what oh nothing never mind uh russ uh uh where am i russ uh your your
[30:56]wife coming in during the podcast and reminding you that no one has taken the garbage bins down
[31:00]yet and you trying to frantically say i'll take them down after the podcast and her saying no no
[31:04]i'll take them down right
[31:05]i mean just just riffing here maybe that's a ever smell your breath and see what's going on by the
[31:13]way please focus on the podcast don't ever get distracted like that again um so russell rolling
[31:19]going how's it going with you rolling going things are going good as aaron said it's december 27th
[31:24]at 10 10 p.m right now i know it's important that we save the time and the date but we're going to
[31:30]be past it but new year's is coming up and i thought i would stay in matt's advice corner
[31:33]and get some dating advice from you guys here
[31:35]we are experts you want to know the best dating advice advice stay fucking home on
[31:43]yes do not go out do not go out i think the order of pizza go to bed at 10 o'clock ever tell you
[31:49]about the time i went out on new year's and i went to somebody's house and it was and we had like a
[31:54]one-year-old and it just sucked we it was that time when you have a kid and you're still like
[31:57]oh we're cool we can go out and do stuff yeah so then um so then we we get out we get into the car
[32:03]we're driving jenny's in the back seat with the baby and we're like oh we're cool we can go out
[32:05]i stop at an intersection uh in downtown minneapolis and somebody just gets in my car
[32:10]because they think it's an uber they just get in no so i immediately go like super uber dad mode
[32:16]like protective like silverback and i go get the fuck out of my car and i'll never forget the guy
[32:23]looks at me and goes oh sorry man geez chill out and i was like yeah i should have actually chilled
[32:27]out a little bit like it's not his fault he's loaded in fact i you know what i'd probably do
[32:32]now i'd be like hey bro you're right where are we going let's give him a ride home let's give him a
[32:35]let's give an uber home let's do it cash only here yeah and then he would pull out a knife and
[32:40]stab me and be like it was a double trick stabbing oh not again not again yeah he'd stab me in my
[32:47]pants and be like oh god you have a small cock i'd be like oh this is the a knife and i'm humiliated
[32:51]jokes on you you missed uh okay russell that was a great role going well i don't know if i've got
[33:01]much else but i think the last time i asked you guys for advice like this it was on valentine's
[33:05]day and matt too
[33:05]told me to take the girl to to white castle yeah and now i'm single again so so i figured i better
[33:11]get better advice this time around for new year's eve what what's the what's the what's the fun date
[33:16]to do on new year's eve do you do you dare going out do you go to like one of the like the nice
[33:20]restaurants or do you do the thing where you pay the big cover or what do you do on new year's eve
[33:24]if you're gonna do something fun for a date a surprise to no one that i'm gonna suggest a dive
[33:28]bar which i think i also suggested for valentine's day so you might want to listen to matt or rob on
[33:34]this one
[33:35]say either like an early dinner if you can get a reservation right like an early like a five o'clock
[33:40]six o'clock dinner you know maybe a drink out somewhere else but then literally home by nine
[33:45]o'clock there is nothing nothing to be gained nothing no i'm just saying like all of that money
[33:52]that you would spend on bottle service and then you know having to the next day retract the
[33:58]purchase on your credit card things like that things like that that's why i didn't pay the bill
[34:02]okay but like going out and like i mean the hype
[34:05]again we've talked about i've talked about this a number of times new year's and then
[34:09]uh halloween any of these things the hype is so much greater than what actually happens at those
[34:15]things at least in my experience so if it's me russell i'm gonna have either the best meal i
[34:20]can have at some fancy restaurant or go to a dive bar and just hang out and watch all the other foot
[34:26]freaks around you know getting just hammered and then you make it home safely about nine ten o'clock
[34:32]and just have we're getting too old my friend we're getting too old to be spending to be an up
[34:37]past midnight all the time things like that so that's that seems like a mean old daddy answer
[34:42]that sounds a little mean old daddy ish to me i'm with him on it rob what about you i bet rob's still
[34:47]a guy who will go out occasionally on a new year's listen new year's eve is the greatest night to stay
[34:53]in there is nothing better to do in new year's eve you know me we've talked about before i've
[34:57]got four words for you russell homemade charcuterie board get yourself a homemade
[35:01]yeah
[35:02]board go out go to whole foods buy some whack ass cheeses you don't even think just say to yourself
[35:07]what would aaron put on the charcuterie board and just do that right like just send you a picture we
[35:12]made one they don't sell hey they don't sell dandelion greens up here in many many do they
[35:17]have a cheese that cost lawnmowers in for the winter i don't know if i could get anything for
[35:21]them i bet you they got them at the wedge i did i actually got an actual dandelion bloom in one of
[35:25]my dandelion greens uh about two weeks ago for the first time ever christ i bet you they got
[35:29]it at the wedge co-op though it's a feature it's a feature
[35:32]not a bug folks uh except there was actually a bug in there too along with the uh with the bud
[35:37]well that's so here's the thing the bugs are still alive yeah aaron's like look at this kind
[35:40]bud i got it's like a dandelion greens like what a bummer isn't there some sort of worry though
[35:45]if you're if you're dating someone and you're like hey we just need to stay in that it makes
[35:49]you seem old it makes you seem not fun you are old you are old update you are old as hell you
[35:55]are old and i'm gonna tell you what you know what you know what old people can do they can go down
[35:59]and buy a fucking fifty dollar wheel of cheese go out and see go out and find a piece of cheese
[36:04]that seems so expensive yes okay that you'd be like who the fuck would buy that cheese you buy
[36:09]that cheese right yes go to a guy that just buy an eighty dollar steak and then cook it yourself
[36:14]you know it's gonna be awesome hundred dollar champagne do it buy meats only from other
[36:20]countries get spanish hams put them on there okay and pretty soon she'll be putting her spanish hams
[36:26]all over you you are pepperoni sausages
[36:29]hey baby i got these canadian bacons they're specialty meats i'm telling you put some bangers
[36:36]and mash on there russell the joke writes itself you are set get a get a meat board we do this all
[36:42]the time we get a meat board we get a nice bottle of champagne and then we watch pitbull for the
[36:47]next four hours host new year's eve specials the bands and the music on new year's eve specials is
[36:52]my favorite night i am obsessed i am right now up north in the middle of nowhere i know exactly
[36:58]where i'm going to be new year's eve because i'm going to be there for the rest of my life
[36:59]because i love watching the music i love watching the ball drop i love watching all those dumb i
[37:04]love watching mariah carey make an absolute fucking fool out of herself it's my favorite
[37:08]it's one of my favorite holidays you gotta be home for it okay going out sucks and at 12
[37:13]when all the hype's over you are home you're already home you're not having to worry about
[37:18]getting a text and you got some extra champagne and charcuterie me up man i thought your dad
[37:22]asked nicely where do you think where do you think i where do you think all of this uh
[37:27]mean old daddy stuff is coming from
[37:29]i learned from him so he's got the teeth in the glass by 8 30 go buy a cutting board for 100 bucks
[37:35]spend 50 bucks on some cheese and buy some meat from europe you are going to be set russell i am
[37:39]telling you it's the perfect new year's eve we got to get out are you guys ready
[37:42]what aaron you what are you gonna say that was rough are you guys ready for the bleep joke bleep
[37:48]joke of the week yes let's hear that bleep joke of the bleep joke of the week here comes maybe
[37:52]and come pick you up oh jesus
[37:59]it's uh-oh is rob's is rob's biggest fear coming true no it's not a fear it's actually quite fine
[38:05]okay it's not a big deal to me oh sweetie did i take the garbage out earlier damn right i did
[38:11]thought about it anyway uh she did it was too fast to step in and do anything but i actually
[38:15]thought about doing it so all right let's get into oh i gotta do my rolling going still how's
[38:21]it rolling with rob so it was my daughter's 13th birthday party i now am official dad of a teenager
[38:27]oh wow
[38:29]uh no not at all she is she was cranky a couple days ago and she was cranky today so things are
[38:35]always the same teenage girl right so yeah look out it is it is 100 the same but we did do the
[38:40]thing where we basically harassed her into telling her where do you want to go for your birthday then
[38:44]she'd say like i want to go to a movie and we'd be like no we're not gonna do that what do you
[38:47]want to do for your birthday she finally fell on to going to a trampoline park so i actually after
[38:52]last week we actually went to the trampoline park this week now i did the really cool thing where i
[38:59]wore a really loose pair of jeans so when it look at me when you see slow motion videos of me jumping
[39:04]it does look like i've taken a giant shit in my pants and every video that you watch
[39:08]and my bald spot is magnified but i will say when i got out on the trampoline i was kind of like
[39:13]i'm an athlete i'm like a super athlete and i used to be really good at trampolining like i
[39:19]had a trampoline in my backyard i could do a flip it was no big deal like i and guess what i am
[39:24]still fucking good at trampolining like sure did i land once on my wrist and i thought maybe i broke
[39:29]yes the first time i landed on my butt sitting down did i feel like maybe something had like
[39:33]dislocated itself yes did i jump for about two minutes and then was so tired right that i thought
[39:40]i was gonna pass out absolutely but guess what i am still a god at trampolining now this trampoline
[39:44]park had a couple things okay number one it had the what i want to put if i had a million dollars
[39:50]this is what i would put in my house a trampoline with a basketball hoop at the end i was throwing
[39:56]down dunks that looked
[39:59]okay in regular speed but then when you know i'm in slow motion i don't like to interrupt your
[40:03]rolling gun because i know that you wouldn't do that to me but i don't like to interrupt but you
[40:08]sent us some videos of these dunks and they were sick man you you stepped up you threw down some
[40:14]sick dunks major props 41 years old and i sent a video of me dunking on a trampoline to three guys
[40:19]and i got in reply high compliments probably the greatest compliments i've ever gotten
[40:23]so mad and so happy for you at the same time oh it was great
[40:29]then i also did a flip into the ball pit not a big deal but the problem is it was a foam pit right
[40:34]and it turns out i think growing up i always thought quicksand was going to be a big deal
[40:39]right it's in all these movies it's in all these shows yeah it's a classic bit of like oh there's
[40:44]not really quicksand like but there is quicksand and it's a foam pit when you're a big fat guy
[40:48]because the more i got into the foam pit right and so i would sink and then i would struggle
[40:55]and i would sink farther and farther and i did have a moment of panic of like
[40:58]what the fuck am i going to do because then i would like slowly lay flat i tried to lay flat
[41:03]and i would get to the edge and then the edge because i'm pushing the foam down so far the
[41:07]edge is like three feet above my body so i'm like well how do i get out of this foam pit there's no
[41:12]ladder there's no steps there's no nothing i had to do like the classic fat guy get out of the pool
[41:18]where you like barely pull your body up and then get onto it and then roll over and like get out
[41:24]of the well that's the infamous that's the infamous darren from kennedy beached whale move
[41:29]on the side of the pool have you ever seen that move or he just rolled he rolls in right he lays
[41:34]goes and lays on the side of a pool on his stomach and kind of wiggles around like he's he's beached
[41:39]and then he waits for someone to come push him back into the water that was like me but it was
[41:44]getting out of the foam pit and the worst part was is when my feet sank to the bottom of the foam pit
[41:48]it was wet there was wetness down at the bottom of the foam pit
[41:54]ah i don't want to think about it it's like when i sat in a movie theater in new york city and i
[41:59]just sat in a wet seat and i go ah that's the worst somebody must have spilled their drink
[42:03]that's the only explanation oh well moving on with my day not thinking about how my wet pants
[42:08]are probably some other guy's urine well i told my wife that's how she got chlamydia actually so
[42:12]that was part of our business that we came up with the other day uh is that so i did see it in a pee
[42:16]seat that's how she got chlamydia but i was happy to see that there was no weight limit at the
[42:20]trampoline park i was a little worried about that but there was none so i could dunk away to my
[42:24]heart's content my only regret is i did not grab under the hoop and uh do my legs up or like stick
[42:31]my arm through vince carter like that was my only regret so aaron what's your beef with me
[42:34]my beef is that this i told you last week that my dream is to have a trampoline again and then
[42:39]all of a sudden rob just goes out and lives my dream and is sending me pictures of it like
[42:43]no big deal like i wouldn't be jealous or you know feel a lot of fomo that he's out there
[42:49]dunking on a trampoline my question though i saw these videos they looked amazing
[42:54]rent out the space there was no one else there did you have to rent it no no there were other
[42:58]people there but they would not jump next to me when i was jumping it was a full-blown it was a
[43:03]full-blown trampoline park we were in there other people were in there but uh i made everybody get
[43:08]out of my shot when i was the parents at the trampoline park are pointing at you and saying
[43:12]that's the type of guy who leaves wet stuff at the bottom of the yeah the trampoline park has
[43:18]got it figured out though because the water there you can buy it by the bottle you know it's like
[43:21]five bucks a bottle or whatever and then they've got
[43:24]you know they know that you buy after like five minutes jumping you're like
[43:27]i need water i'm so thirsty and then of course they got like three crane games and it's a whole
[43:35]rob was there a weight limit where people are prohibited from joining the thing or were you
[43:39]just worried that there could be one there was not i i i didn't look but nobody said anything
[43:44]to me so i was like oh this is great and sure enough when i got on the trampolines it turns
[43:47]out for once my weight made me a better trampoline i was flying god i was just like as light as air
[43:54]then i got slightly sweaty and i realized maybe i didn't put deodorant on that day so back to the
[43:57]fear about smelling bad what can you do nobody's perfect unfortunately my daughter the crane game
[44:02]i i did not win anything so my daughter did not get a birthday present that day it was a real
[44:06]all right did the dog get one
[44:09]let's talk about the album oh yeah that fifty dollars you spent on the crane game would have
[44:17]really gone far on oh my god you could have bought some real nice couple i tell my kids
[44:21]they want to do the crane game all the time and crane games do you know what they call it crane game
[44:24]cost now do you know what this crane game costs per play well it depends is it an automatic winner
[44:28]one because some of them you win every time right is it a duck machine because this was the giant
[44:33]ducks or the giant like rubber things that i mean it's all shit right like how much does that stop
[44:37]how much does that cost like 13 cents yeah per thing it's a dollar per grab okay and i've got
[44:44]two kids right and of course one of them had they both have to play so that's two dollars and i tell
[44:49]them all the time you're not gonna win you're not gonna win you're not gonna win sure enough
[44:53]every time they play
[44:54]i didn't win but that's like i told you this is like life it you spend money and it sucks you
[45:01]don't get what you want congratulations it's terrible life is shit aaron your kid loved the
[45:07]crane game you ever do crane game or does your kid even know what that is he only knows about
[45:11]it from reading his toy story graphic novel so we've not done the crane game otherwise but in
[45:15]toy story it's the claw so he's not seen one in real life he's gonna flip his lid when he does
[45:19]oh totally his thing now is pinball there are pinball machines at the ice skating rink so he's
[45:23]just like we went back to the ice skating rink and he's like oh my god i didn't win
[45:24]today he's crazy for the pinball classic move he's he might be a future fat guy here and you
[45:29]better look i'm going to the ice skating rink and just playing video games oh that sounds a lot like
[45:33]my childhood leo and eddie leo and eddie and i've got it down so like leo eddie eddie's the one who's
[45:39]working the stick right i'm i'm the one in the left and right facing it leo goes to the side
[45:45]of the machine he's the front and back guy oh so we've got we've got we've got a yeah three-man
[45:49]team and we you know we do pretty darn good at the old green game so i i am a i'm a i'm a i'm a
[45:54]this is where i'm a great uncle again i lie to my nieces and nephews and i always say the crane
[45:58]game is broken i'm like it's out of it's out of order if you and then i'll point at like the like
[46:03]the instructions and i'll say it see it says it's out of order i did have fun i did have fun i will
[46:10]say hanging out with my uh niece and nephew this weekend because all of my jokes are good again
[46:16]my kids hate all my jokes they think it's the worst my niece and nephew i don't know if they
[46:22]thought they were good but i got to tell them and i got a reaction
[46:24]like we pull up to the trampoline place i go oh it's closed and they're so sad they're like
[46:29]crying sad i'm like i'm just kidding it's open now is that a joke just lying about something
[46:34]i don't know but it's it's what i got all right did you tell them the joke about the
[46:39]gray pubes or whatever that one was from a few weeks ago dusting the broom is that what we call
[46:44]yeah they didn't think that was funny they actually that was a lot more questions than
[46:49]answers with that what is uh okay so let's talk about lady soul
[46:54]and we definitely remember what year it was released we don't need to go back if you're
[46:57]wondering just push the back button about 30 times and you'll be able to hear it 1968 from 1968 uh
[47:03]this is aretha's 14th album and this was actually released a year after uh i never loved the man
[47:10]away i loved you but it's not her next album like she released a couple albums in between there
[47:14]it's wild to think we you've talked about this before man how they're just like put out albums
[47:18]to make money and these artists were just putting out album after album after album you sing we'll
[47:22]put it out yeah yeah although with the
[47:24]is it easier for her to put out albums because she's doing so many covers you know what i mean
[47:28]like she's just taking hit songs already and re-singing them like i don't know it's there's
[47:33]there was a lot of covers on this album right am i crazy you are but not because of that yes there
[47:38]are a lot of covers james brown curtis mayfield i'm looking at a few of them i don't know when
[47:43]you have a voice like aretha though you're just like okay well let's let's pick a song and arrange
[47:46]it and i'm gonna make it a hit and if you're writing songs you want somebody like aretha
[47:50]singing your song right yeah in theory yeah this is definitely a product of the
[47:54]the music and label machine of the time right like let's get aretha with a great band to sing
[48:01]a bunch of great songs and that's an album you can cut in a day or i don't maybe it was longer
[48:05]than that but you can cut that quick get it out people will buy it because it's aretha singing
[48:09]great songs but the big news is this album was recorded down at muscle shoals once again right
[48:14]and so we we talked about how last time she recorded two songs on there for i never loved
[48:18]the man away i loved you and then her manager punched a trumpet player in the face and they
[48:23]immediately had to leave and go record somewhere else but this along with that album this was the
[48:27]other album of hers that went to number two on the billboard 200 the three hit singles off this album
[48:32]you make me feel like a natural woman chain of fools uh and since you've been gone ain't no way
[48:37]which is the last song on this album which actually turned higher than chain of fools it
[48:42]was a higher charting kelly clarkson saying that song which i couldn't believe that's who's saying
[48:46]that did you been gone that i'm telling you what a banger like american idol a while there
[48:52]they were nailing it like kelly clarkson is a legit star not as good as party in the usa though
[48:58]or what was the one that rosie n heard wrecking ball still haven't heard it yeah but i did watch
[49:03]very merry christmas twice this year with miley cyrus singing silent night now am i a bigger
[49:09]justin gularney fan yes i am okay check out from kelly to justin with love okay justin guarini
[49:15]guys we're we're less than six degrees of separation from justin guarini
[49:21]no the aforementioned grammy winning adam lupke who we went to college with went to high school
[49:28]with justin guarini so that's it we're three degrees of separation from american idol right
[49:32]there sounds like two would it be hard for us to get justin guarini on this podcast i'm gonna say
[49:37]absolutely not okay i think we could do it i think we could do it there's a hundred percent
[49:41]we're also three degrees away from anyone who will ever listen to this podcast to get after
[49:45]fair that's fair we're also one degree away from ruben stuttered because
[49:50]some of us look a lot like ruben stuttered i'm sorry for 2004 oh my god i'm so i realize how
[49:58]old i am when i realize the song is i'm sorry for 2004 rob what's your third sentence oh my god
[50:03]uh that was it i don't have any more i mean there isn't i'll hear it i'll tell you right now there
[50:07]is uh some people might say maybe driving up through a snowstorm up north maybe took some of
[50:13]my research time away but i'm not gonna say that at all all right let's get into ladies soul great
[50:19]chain of fools
[50:21]slam and start to an album huh yeah it's hard to beat i mean never loved a man starts with
[50:33]respect right so that's hard to beat but this is close i i think the whole time i was listening to
[50:39]this i was like do i like this album more than the other one we listened to and i think i do i
[50:43]think obviously respect is a i think is a great bigger song than these but this has some real
[50:48]hits on it just the bass i the bass and the grooves on this album i thought were so strong
[50:53]because listen aretha nobody's voice is better like we can just accept that it's it's great i
[50:59]just so funky aaron did you know that this song was originally written for otis redding
[51:06]no i did not did he but he never recorded it did he no i don't think so it was written for
[51:10]otis redding and then they ended up giving it to jerry wexler instead and then he gave it to
[51:14]aretha so otis never recorded it i don't think but what would you think of
[51:18]i would have loved to hear otis sing it and that's fun because i you know as we talked about
[51:23]on never loved a man he wrote respect and then aretha stole his song and he knew it like he knew
[51:28]she did it better than him i would have loved to say to hear otis sing chain of fools he could
[51:32]have done he could have done it right i i think oh i i the one thing with this album though is i
[51:39]wish that we could get an album that sounded as good as like a kanye album or as like uh
[51:46]yeah what's the deal with the
[51:48]sound it's muddy i don't i don't i don't love the recording quality it's swampy it's groovy it's
[51:54]funky but it's not it does sound like she's kind of like in a room next door no you're right yeah
[51:59]the the grooves are good but like if you hear it like it sounds like the the mic couldn't deal with
[52:05]her voice so maybe that's true i don't know but really i mean the whole muscle shoals thing is all
[52:09]about the backing musicians right i mean that they were so good and they were you know like
[52:13]nobody i don't think anybody's ever said wow what a great studio you know uh there's great
[52:18]recording equipment things like that it's always about the band the band that's backing you know
[52:23]that that's the muscle shoals sound and everything so all right yeah i mean you look in studio b and
[52:27]there's the almond brothers okay and they're cranking out their biggest hits of all time it's
[52:31]all great they used they used a lot of water for those almond brothers to make those almonds like
[52:36]a lot of water at the expense of the salmon think of the salmon in the delta how are you going to
[52:41]put locks on your shark or tree board i i'll tell you what i was thinking of the salmon aaron aaron
[52:46]i was thinking of the salmon i switched to lactose-free milk when i was down visiting my
[52:49]sister there you go a disaster okay it was a disaster when you were visiting someone else
[52:55]two weeks in a row and your tummy is upset like terrible very rude and i blamed aaron 100 of the
[53:01]time i said aaron didn't take out the trash today he also screwed me over in this almond milk thing
[53:04]he's not having a great week and then i remember the chef knife and i was like he's actually having
[53:09]the greatest life of all time i'm incredibly jealous all right money won't change you
[53:14]you
[53:16]yeah the band's just on fire on this one too right
[53:19]james brown song right yeah that's right that's where i've heard this
[53:26]do you guys think if we started making money on this podcast it would change us or not
[53:32]yeah hell yeah it would change me change aaron for sure you think so
[53:35]yeah i would have two cars no i'd still only have one car but it'd be nicer
[53:43]i was picturing myself in a giant beck did a better cape
[53:46]that i would walk around with and thinking if money would change me like i'm wearing the hat
[53:49]i'm pulling up in the limo to the recordings you know no like i almost i really thought hard about
[53:55]buying a volvo the other day and then i was like no that's too much that's too much money i would
[53:58]buy that volvo if we made a bunch of money on this podcast oh my god aaron well you're never
[54:04]gonna get to buy that volvo aaron even aaron's dreams are the most boring thing i've ever heard
[54:09]of in my entire life okay honey honey you won't can't wait to hear this yeah i was driving a
[54:15]volvo last night and i was like going 55 in a 55 plus you know i respect my wife too much to buy a
[54:22]volvo i mean it's right it's a plug-in but it's like it's a plug-in hybrid it's like it's such
[54:27]great technology and like i like that joke yeah my kid walked by when i said it too but guess what
[54:32]i still did it because i love the podcast so much so the volvo is a plug-in huh it's a plug-in
[54:37]yeah it's interesting what color all right i think what other color would it be
[54:45]get ready and of course the whole time i'm listening to this i'm thinking about bob marley
[54:49]right it's a cursed influence on the impressions she sings the hell out of this thing this is like
[54:56]the definition of wailing isn't it this is just yes destroying very wailing yeah very wailing
[55:02]yeah it's the second best wailing i know after jenny's
[55:06]you guys were getting ready for this song i was getting ready to have a cocktail on this album
[55:13]can i share a cocktail with you guys
[55:15]people get ready to laugh at what russell has put into this cocktail russell tell us about your
[55:21]aretha franklin lady soul cocktail rob this one is a classic you may need to get the the james
[55:27]brown the horns ready the horns are gonna have to be playing on this one okay it doesn't start
[55:31]with a bun you're about to find out okay so this one is from the book booze and vinyl but it was
[55:37]actually for i never loved a man so it was for the other album but this that i mean that's been
[55:42]more than a year since we covered that right it's been a long time ago it was in the top
[55:45]10 yeah are you serious it was in the new in the new top 10 that makes me think about
[55:49]reuben stuttered again but so i went so i went to the book and booze and vinyl and on the first
[55:56]on saturday and i think this still applies for aretha i'm drinking tonight it's called an ice
[56:01]cream flip it is sweet and fruity the drink is smooth and velvety just like aretha's singing
[56:07]all right so i'm gonna tell you guys have you ever heard of an ice cream flip rob you're an
[56:11]ice cream guy you gotta like and he's a flipper and he does flips i was trapped when i was at
[56:15]the trampoline place i did an ice cream flip like three times it's not a big deal to me okay that's
[56:19]when you're on a trampoline and you're eating an ice cream cone and the workers are trying to stop
[56:23]you but guess what they can't catch you because you're bouncing around all over the place it's
[56:26]like a gummy bear all right first up in the in the recipe one ounce of brandy half an ounce of
[56:34]orange curacao half an ounce of maraschino liqueur no don't have that one egg no okay wait a minute
[56:43]wait a minute wait a minute russell
[56:45]before you go i just want to see you guys thumbs up or thumbs down does russell actually have an
[56:49]egg i'm gonna go like this aaron what do you think man what do you think okay they said thumbs up i
[56:53]say thumbs down okay sorry russell one scoop of vanilla ice cream oh and and freshly grated nutmeg
[57:02]for garnish oh you combine them all into a blender mix them up and drink it okay stop right there
[57:10]because i know brandy alexander you don't have it does sound like a brandy alexander you do not have
[57:15]a blender i know that for a fact i don't have a blender no you don't but and i didn't have brandy
[57:20]either so i put my garbage 100 piggyback rye is what i decided to substitute all right well you
[57:27]know okay you know you not having brandy sounds a lot like looking glass because uh her man was
[57:34]in love with the sea brandy you're a fun girl karaoke classic by the way i did have orange
[57:40]curacao i didn't have maraschino liqueur but as we know that just means i subbed the juice out of it
[57:44]from the cherries right that actually works that's not even that's not even maraschino liqueur sounds
[57:49]so good that sounds good to me i kind of want to drink that right out of the bottle i mean it can't
[57:53]be better than the juice out of the cherry jar though right no never no you like it a juice for
[57:59]there was a distillery in oakland that had that made a cherry liqueur and they told us when we
[58:03]went to the tasting they were like we call this one the panty dropper and i didn't buy any like
[58:07]what was i thinking what were you doing i don't know i don't know you idiot yeah can you imagine
[58:12]giving that to somebody and be like
[58:14]do you feel like dropping those panties do you anytime anytime i've been checking out a used
[58:19]volvo for those of you guys a new one a new volvo aaron your dream was about a used one
[58:27]aaron's dreaming about like a volvo with 120 000 miles on it scratch and dent
[58:35]for those of you that believed i would put the egg in the drink you are correct i did put the
[58:40]full egg into the drinks up that was my thumbs up i'm an idiot
[58:43]unfortunately i didn't have vanilla ice cream and i went to the gas station and they were out
[58:47]of it too so i got strawberry ice cream so instead i'm doing a strawberry ice cream flip tonight and
[58:53]it's delicious that actually sounds good it's really good let me see you drink that rocky
[58:58]style oh yeah oh drinking that egg and the strawberry ice cream oh my god i love i love
[59:04]the idea that like well ice cream's not rich enough let's put a whole fucking egg in there
[59:07]like that's such a great drink oh it says the egg can be omitted but it makes this drink extra rich
[59:13]so your rigs that you're spot on aaron man i got i got i might have i have most of those ingredients
[59:19]i don't have to do it cherries but i got i got brandy and strawberry ice cream i'm gonna do it
[59:23]gotta say gotta say you go into a gas station to get ice cream totally normal the gas station not
[59:29]having vanilla fucked you gotta find a new gas station what are you doing with a gas station
[59:34]that is my buddy tutu still working at the sa and i don't know who was working tonight but i went in
[59:39]there and the ice this must be like a supply chain thing the ice cream was
[59:43]not strong at the super america by my house or the speedway or whatever it's called yeah and so
[59:48]i was looking and i was like well i could go with strawberry and that seems kind of like in line with
[59:53]the fruity drink with the orange curacao and the the maraschino and whatnot or i could have gone
[59:58]with like chocolate chip ice cream but i figured chocolate's gonna throw this all off right you
[60:03]totally totally so i figured if there was no vanilla strawberry was the best way to go that's
[60:08]right yeah i love it the question is russell are you going to throw away that strawberry ice cream
[60:13]or are you going to wait a couple months and then throw the strawberry ice cream away what are you
[60:16]going to do with that strawberry ice cream i'm gonna three days the moment the moment you guys
[60:20]go jump off the zoom i am eating that shit oh my god sit down to eat a bowl of strawberry ice cream
[60:26]gross what matt what you got no fruit and dessert get out of here i love ice cream are you dropping
[60:32]are you dropping us out of the russell drink corner no we're going oh no i was just gonna
[60:36]play the thing because i thought that was such a great yeah i mean guys that's almost an irish eye
[60:43]a strawberry flip but without brandy with no maraschino liqueur also i did not have nutmeg for
[60:51]garnish so i would have guessed that i would have given rob how do you make nutmeg rob how do you
[60:58]make rob would tell me how to make my homemade nutmeg well i can tell you they're selling it by
[61:02]the gram after i was at the trampoline park shave those things off what what what did you use
[61:08]instead of a blender again russell i actually i just let the ice cream melt a little bit and then
[61:13]i put it in my shaker and i kind of stirred it up and then i shaked it all up and it melted
[61:17]oh my god i love the idea that you guys were going to be disgusted by this but seems like
[61:24]you're all on board no yeah i'm on board all right i gotta i'm gonna bring back a a really
[61:29]old bit we haven't done in a very long time okay so for this song we got people get ready and i
[61:35]think it's it's kind of important to go through this the number of people that have covered this
[61:38]song yes all right just to understand you know so we've got bob marley and the whalers chamber
[61:42]brothers bob dylan rod stewart human nature vanilla fudge yes kenny rankin don't know who that
[61:51]is um ziggy marley seal oh yes that's seal oh yeah and then the one and only in 1985
[62:03]jeff beck covered this song oh so when it comes to covering people get ready yes who does it better
[62:12]beck did it better i hate rob i'm a giant i'm a giant beck fan i wondered if he is it better
[62:19]does giant beck do it better
[62:21]this is giant beck and i just wanted to say people get ready to be destroyed by me jeff beck
[62:37]giant jeff beck my favorite cover of people get ready is actually ava cassidy but she must not
[62:42]have made she was not amazed mass list my penis is the size of a chef's knife as well well i'm
[62:49]trying to think i'm trying to look through uh that was fantastic man i didn't even know the name of
[62:53]the podcast and he pulled the becks in it better than that i'm impressed well these other two guys
[62:58]russ aren't laughing at the giant thing because that episode they've never heard the giant neil
[63:02]young episode they don't know that i put the echo onto the voice and it makes it funny well i knew
[63:07]rob i knew i know you and i know what okay that was fantastic matt next up
[63:12]aaron what is it i can pronounce this song it's not a big deal but how would you pronounce aaron
[63:16]if you had to i guess i'd call it nikki hokey if i had there we go that's what i was gonna say too
[63:20]good job you passed nikki hokey oh thank you man listen to this though just imagine you're
[63:27]this bass player and you're like i'm gonna play something funky and then aretha's gonna come in
[63:32]that's this is a good ride symbol it's some tony williams the uh writing credits for this song
[63:40]go to jim ford
[63:42]and this helps remind me of something i gotta bring up lolly vegas and pat vegas which reminds
[63:48]me that june 14th to the 17th we will be in or january we will be in las vegas at the link
[63:55]i have to see you there i'm just not playing because it's so hard to edit when i have the
[63:58]music are we now are we going to do an episode in las vegas we're not right we're not going to
[64:03]take any time to do an episode there no you're not one of us one of us decided one of us is not
[64:08]coming so one of us will not be there the rest of us are going to a trampoline
[64:12]park it's going to be a great oh my god i'm gonna die i'm telling you guys this album this album is
[64:18]so funky i was listening to it driving up with the fam today we were all grooving and jamming
[64:21]and by that i mean my wife was checking instagram and my kids both had headphones in okay so it's
[64:26]probably one of the top five top five vacation for me of all time it was great you make me feel
[64:32]like a natural woman oh is this a top 10 song that we've heard so far i think it might be
[64:42]yes yeah this is the first time where now i don't feel bad that you guys ragged on carol king so bad
[64:48]you guys just tore her to shreds on that album i do feel bad and i felt bad at the time and now
[64:53]i hear this i'm like yeah there's a difference here isn't there it's still a great she can write
[64:57]carol king can write amazing writer yes
[65:00]it's kind of like kanye rapping dude you're right but man right adult yeah it's like prince i mean
[65:09]masturbating with a magazine like that
[65:11]you got to think of that stuff like that's expert stuff writing i don't know guys i thought of that
[65:16]when i thought of nicky where i haven't been able to get out of my head strings in later they didn't
[65:20]have strings and muscle shoals did they uh oh yeah i want to derail everybody they had a they
[65:26]had a tub thumping oh let's just move on that that song is so good and we do we not i mean finger
[65:35]symbols rob can we do a song parody about tub printing where you're leaving your butt prints
[65:41]i get knocked down i don't sit up again i don't sit up again for another couple hours
[65:49]my butt's still there in the tub yeah oh i it turns out i think that was a permanent thing
[65:53]that was not from me specifically but since you've been gone has your family members had
[65:58]any complaints or not since you've been gone you make me feel like a natural woman is about
[66:03]having a big bush right oh god i don't think so baby sweet baby this jamming
[66:11]good piano out here too right just like the honky tonk style with the
[66:15]driving rhythms this sign sealed delivered by stevie wonder that's what this reminded me of
[66:21]i was like god what song did i hear that yeah yeah i hear that aaron you were mentioned the
[66:26]rhythms to me one of the things i like you guys have been talking all night about kind of that
[66:30]muscle shoals the rhythm section that's been playing with aretha on the first one and now
[66:34]this one so i thought maybe what we could do is dive in a little bit to the swampers who are the
[66:41]rhythm section and we can do a list of the five greatest songs ever that feature the muscle shoals
[66:47]rhythm section better known as the swampers russell you you never never fail to come through
[66:56]so what i smelled like after that trampoline park swampers what was going on at the bottom
[67:00]of that trampoline mad has mentioned this before there's a there's a documentary out there i think
[67:07]it's called muscle shoals and it kind of gets into the whole like the history of uh the music
[67:11]down there the recording studios the backing bands and everything i would highly recommend it
[67:15]matt you've talked about it before but it is so good don't you yeah i mean it's essentially like
[67:19]this bermuda triangle right uh like uh mississippi sound and then you've got like chicago influence
[67:28]coming down a little bit of tennessee and kentucky then you got some of your florida georgia coming
[67:33]over and it's like this central point where these all of these people meet right and then these
[67:39]these people who just grew up with
[67:41]all of that influence coming from all around them and so it's like the heart of americana music if
[67:46]you want to get really sappy about it right because of all these confluences of different uh
[67:51]sounds coming together and it all kind of went right at muscle it kind of right at muscle shoals
[67:56]there so so there's this guy in the 60s his name's rick hall and he creates fame studios
[68:00]and muscle muscle shoals and so they in the documentary they talk about how it kind of
[68:05]creates a different kind of r&b it's different than memphis or detroit or la it sounds different
[68:10]so he has this backup rhythm section and they go on a tour with the beatles and then they left him
[68:16]and went to memphis so he forms this second rhythm section and it's the second one which they call
[68:20]the second fame gang and that ends up becoming the the muscle shoals rhythm section that you hear
[68:27]about or they're also known as the swamper so if you guys remember in the song by leonard skinner
[68:33]sweet home alabama what does he sing about the alabama's got the swampers or something like that
[68:38]they have there you go right
[68:40]those shows got the swampers same piano you can hear it right yep
[68:46]yeah all right is this that band it's not this band but but they're emulating now then he said
[68:56]now then he said lord they get me off so much but so i'm trying to think about every what the
[69:00]swampers are doing feeling blue like that's a pretty cool shout out to a rhythm section out
[69:04]there right but yeah he's hitting the ride cymbal and then jacking off ronnie van zandt like crazy
[69:08]like this is the perfect day at the studio
[69:10]so they become this like really prominent studio band playing in muscle shoals forever so the first
[69:16]song on the list is the first song that ever topped the charts out of muscle shoals it's
[69:22]percy sledge when a man loves a woman oh i didn't know that was for muscle shoals
[69:26]listen to that snare and there's the ride cymbal there's ronnie van zandt in the back he's doing it
[69:35]and so when you watch the documentary you guys were talking about jerry wexler
[69:39]the guy who
[69:40]ran the studio played this for jerry wexler and that's like what started the whole relationship
[69:44]with him and helped bring aretha down to play there or actually breathe and play there for
[69:49]one song and then they were like we're never coming back never come back so the band had to
[69:53]come play with her right so next song on the list this is edda james i'd rather go blind check this
[69:58]out and tell me what current song this sounds like to you guys something told me it was so good
[70:10]that band seems to go tennessee whiskey it sounds exactly like tennessee whiskey they ripped this
[70:16]song off didn't they is that chris stapleton that song didn't he yeah well you're hearing it in the
[70:21]background right now beyonce's only mistake was trying to play edda james in in the movie kind
[70:26]of like records she just could not it just was not right so one of the cool things about muscle
[70:32]shoals is after wexler hears percy sledge he has this falling out with the studio in memphis and he
[70:38]decides to bring an amazing song to the studio and he decides to bring an amazing song to the
[70:40]studio and he decides to bring an amazing artist down to play in muscle shoals an artist that is
[70:43]very fond of my heart this is wilson pickett the song is mustang sally check it out phillips i don't
[70:48]know listen this group jesus i mean this stuff will make you stretch your face up and you gotta
[70:57]move this is it organ in there i always thought this was just a tad too slow though i hate to be
[71:06]the negative guy it was famously difficult to work with like he basically worked himself out
[71:10]of the industry like he could have been a huge star but no one liked him they talked about that
[71:14]he was really difficult to work with an interesting thing about that song is it was originally recorded
[71:19]by mac rice in 1965 and aaron they did not have the organ on that one so that's one of the reasons
[71:25]this one stands out is that organ being added to it that organ but a really cool thing about that
[71:29]when they originally were releasing that song that mac rice it was called mustang mama and
[71:34]someone heard the song and told him to change it the title to mustang sally that person aretha
[71:39]franklin oh russell this is oh my god you gotta listen to a reason so good yeah you're gonna say
[71:47]something about this one i was just gonna say it's from i can only every time i hear that song
[71:53]now i think of the full monty and just how funny it is there's just a movie about guys getting naked
[71:58]i don't know but it still is funny to me every time rob what would be your full monty song if
[72:03]you were gonna be do a strips teaser a shoe show if you will what would what would your song be
[72:08]probably it's a small world after all
[72:09]then there'd be no surprises let's say what what is your favorite thing about
[72:13]a movie where a bunch of guys are getting naked i just think the the concept of it is funny where
[72:18]they're like oh we should get naked and then everybody just does it i was thinking of that
[72:21]when i was walking through airport security you know because i always i'm convinced i know those
[72:26]x-ray scanners can see my junk and so you know what i do every time before i hop into there
[72:30]i throw it around a little bit gotta chub it up just in case there's somebody watch it look at
[72:34]those pictures gotta give them the business gotta look at gotta be careful though okay
[72:39]because it is you are being watched pretty closely so you gotta look out but i recommend
[72:42]to everybody before you go through chub it up just a little bit just a little bit of movement
[72:50]yeah no you can't do too much man i don't know the man just do not do too much just a little bit
[72:54]no if you're bulge underwear on too yeah no you you cannot do too much otherwise you will get
[73:00]pulled aside and give it a number of tests that you may or may not want i don't know
[73:03]so it maybe in 1969 the swampers they're supposed to sign this exclusive deal to
[73:09]keep playing at this famed studios down in muscle shoals but they decided to chub it up a little bit
[73:14]and they went out on their own and started their own studio jerry wexler sets them up so they leave
[73:18]the other guy high and dry and they go start their own studio and they struggle for a few years and
[73:23]before we get to the next time there was this really cool story so they've got leonard skinner
[73:27]in there and they're sitting there and they're practicing at their studio and this guy's in
[73:31]there and he's playing he starts playing the piano tune that eventually becomes free bird
[73:35]and the guy who was playing it matt was their roadie he wasn't even in the
[73:39]band but he was like a concert pianist and he was playing that and they're like we need to record
[73:44]this so they record it nine minute song and he's trying to sell it to all these uh record labels
[73:50]no one will put out a nine minute song so skinner ends up leaving this studio records it somewhere
[73:57]else and they make it a hit somewhere else because no one would put out a nine minute hit can you
[74:01]imagine turning down free bird just be like god i'm the guy who turned down free bird yeah it sounds
[74:09]a lot like my ex-girlfriends who when they see me on facebook now they're like he was certainly my
[74:13]free bird here's a guy that looks like he shit his pants doing a flip into a moist ball pit and
[74:18]they're like there goes my dream man i really missed out on him but all of this you know like
[74:22]free bird all of that came out right after you know the beatles rolling stones all of this stuff
[74:27]when they got rid of just making uh songs to be on the radio right i mean this whole thing about
[74:33]having albums about you know starting your own music being uh using the recording equipment and
[74:38]recording devices and then the you know ultimately the the studio as like an as a form of art you know
[74:45]that's what uh kind of you hear that throughout this whole list of why a lot of these albums from
[74:50]this time are on the top 100 let alone top 500 list so yeah you're absolutely right free bird
[74:56]you know people might make fun of it because it's kind of a southern rock song or whatever but it's
[75:01]it's an awesome song so it's so good every time i hear that guitar solo oh it's just a killer
[75:08]i'll see you 100 bucks in nashville yeah it does and they have this they have this new studio but
[75:13]it's kind of struggling for a while and then the stones come down there and play there but it turns
[75:17]out the swampers didn't play with the stones they played at the studio but the swampers didn't back
[75:22]them up right but a song that really crushes that the swampers backed them up on is the staple
[75:27]singers i'll take you there check this one out i mean listen to these drums on this
[75:38]and the bass so this is the second one though right maybe because this one sounds pretty clear
[75:42]to me like this is the second way different right this is like definitely recording in a different
[75:47]studio and to think that they started staple supply chain stores it's crazy
[75:53]i read rolling stone editor david built a staple center out in la i can't believe it and they
[75:59]invented the staple center right the weird thing is they had their name first and then invented
[76:03]the stapler they the staple singers had this thing where they're bussed they got on the bus
[76:08]just full papers all over the place loose all over the place they're like what oh no this is
[76:12]how are we going to know how to put them together yeah and they're like oh it would be so cool if
[76:17]somebody would collate this and put it together and little bobby staples got together and said
[76:21]listen i'm gonna stick bobby staples and percy swingline johnson you know got together yep
[76:28]and that's how the stapler is born and that's a true story all right last song on the list this
[76:33]is when i went out on a date in hopkins with the girl who swore a lot it was on main street the song
[76:38]is bob seger main street check out the band down a fucking main street
[76:43]that is the muscle shoals sound isn't it it is right and there's rob's bass line again
[76:51]it's just singing i hate i read bob seger most of his songs were with this his backing band
[76:58]the silver bullet band those are two pretty cool badass bands to be playing with you
[77:03]name wise right who would you rather have backing you up the swampers or the silver bullet band
[77:08]oh i gotta go with the swampers i feel like i feel like if i'm hanging out with the swampers
[77:13]i'm gonna be the most attractive guy in the group right if it's me if it's rob and the swampers rob
[77:18]is the supermodel in the whole group no doubt yeah probably the swampers but it's close it's
[77:22]so good russell that was such a good list that's i thought it was pretty easy everyone's gotta go
[77:26]check that check that documentary out it was amazing yeah you tie it all together and the
[77:32]new studio was like two blocks away right i mean they had the original and then the new one that
[77:37]was like two blocks away so it's like yeah it's funny too because muscle shoals is a town of like
[77:42]three people right like it's mostly just the studio it's crazy all right where were we uh
[77:48]good to me as i am to you karen i wish you were as good to me as i am to you i try rob it's hard
[77:55]geez there she's just going off again
[77:57]this is where i know i'm not allowed to talk about radiohead but this is where i hear this
[78:05]and i just can't i can't get past radiohead
[78:07]this is like the art i don't get matt yeah you just don't get it i hear that that's i mean i
[78:20]think that's what i was trying to trying to think about in in my rolling going is that i sometimes
[78:25]will read a book or listen to music where it's a lot of work to try to understand it and then i
[78:29]listen to something like this and i'm like well this just sounds fucking great like it's fun to
[78:33]listen to top to bottom why would i ever try hard to enjoy something when i can just put this on
[78:37]instead i think this you know what you should do i i think we're all in our life pretty soon we're
[78:41]going to have people going to college right and this would be a list of just like okay you're
[78:49]going to have people over and you know it can be guys girls whoever you're going to have people
[78:52]over to your room and you're going to have to put on an album that people can listen to and you just
[78:56]sit and talk this would be a top five album just to have on in the background that you put on to
[79:01]show that hey i'm a cool guy i've got some taste and it's going to set the tone of like hey this
[79:06]is a funky
[79:07]good time we're having in this dorm room okay it definitely it isn't you know maybe your freshman
[79:12]roommate constantly listening to the back to the future soundtrack over and over and over while
[79:17]you're trying to sleep so all you hear is i'm going to go back in time which is what filled my
[79:21]dorm room was the back to the future my freshman roommate listened to jewel pieces of you at night
[79:26]on repeat it was either that or you to the joshua tree and his cd player would get stuck and repeat
[79:32]parts of the joshua horrible and he he needed music to sleep like literally while i was trying
[79:37]to sleep i would hear you two on repeat or jewel pieces of you yeah i put this on instead good good
[79:43]that's a really good take rob college is a crazy time isn't it like if i just said to somebody
[79:47]you're going to go and live in this room that is small and you're going to live with this
[79:52]that we you've never met before right and you're just going to live with them you'd be like oh god
[79:58]you couldn't pay me to do that you'd be like oh no that's the funny part actually you're going to
[80:02]pay quite a bit of money and you're going to learn a lot of things that i was thinking of this the
[80:07]anything i learned in college in my job except for the fact that i went to college so i tell kids
[80:12]like hey this is what i did wrong in college you shouldn't do this like i don't know if i actually
[80:16]actually be and and probably being a roommate was the number one skill i learned of like
[80:20]oh i am a slob like it did your did your roommate the first four years not tell you to not put the
[80:27]towels in the sink or we shared a bath we didn't share a bathroom my freshman year roommate was
[80:33]messier than i was did that roommate get you bologna sandwiches when you were sleeping
[80:36]i wish i would have married that guy oh that would have been so awesome uh uh and i would
[80:43]have said to him hey come back baby is it what is it true that eric clapton played the guitar
[80:49]on the last song too yes he's yeah he's on the credits yeah and this one has got king curtis
[80:56]on it i think yeah yeah from this one this this had a lot of music going on yeah if i could play
[81:06]this i would never do anything else in my life i think this was my dream when i started playing
[81:10]the bass now that i've dunked a basketball that dream out of my way i'm done with that now i want
[81:15]to play like this on this song this is king curtis on this one russell you said i think so yeah
[81:19]i mean she had clout like she had clout i think it's king curtis on the tenor sax and then i know
[81:26]there were two flute players on the on the song two flute players two two if one's good two is
[81:32]better grooving but yeah
[81:36]was this is this one was this one by the rascals first look it up i don't know all i know aaron
[81:43]just to get you get that carving knife going again young rascals yeah this does have the
[81:48]sweet inspirations on it so i know you like the sweet inspiration you know yes you know that i'll
[81:52]get the chef's knife chef knife sharpened and ready to cut
[81:57]ready to go through the x-ray machine at the airport song is written by cavalieri's new
[82:06]round interest in afro cuban music oh it's nice oh good ain't no way oh this thing is a killer
[82:15]this is the third single off his album did better than chain of fools
[82:18]is this the last is this the last song yeah this is a pretty great way to end an album with her
[82:27]just crushing it right it sounds like the studio cannot hold her it just sounds like
[82:31]she needed to be a huge counselor i shouldn't talk but she's singing
[82:36]yeah imagine if vince mcmahon had to record the studio he would sound terrible wouldn't he rob
[82:41]vince vince you gotta get away you gotta get way closer that was terrible
[82:49]this album is so funky this is so good god i gotta say guys i have regretted doing this podcast so
[82:57]so many times no i'm just kidding i love it i love it uh although hiding from my family on
[83:03]christmas day because i have to finish an edit was i was thinking hmm
[83:06]am i getting too into this podcast but listening to an album like this it was it's so worth it it's
[83:12]so good i mean it just is i don't get to rank these albums but i love this i thought this
[83:16]should be way higher up in the list i think it should be higher than the other uh one that we
[83:20]listened to i don't know let's get into the ratings with hot takes like that i don't know
[83:28]why i don't do actual ratings that was so good so detailed did it better rating system oh yeah
[83:36]by the way my kid used the word ain't the other day in conversation and somebody like corrected
[83:39]her and i was like are we still doing that we're still we're still correcting just perfectly fine
[83:45]to say yeah just say people know what you're saying when you say it yeah who cares i think
[83:49]it's more of a it's an affect just let them do it listen this is the rating system this is album 75
[83:54]okay is this album at 75 rolling well toned that means it is perfect okay so when we sit down and
[84:00]we make this list and we're putting albums once again against each other kind of in a head-to-head
[84:05]royal rumble of albums okay let's say we got 500 albums they're all in the ring they're looking at
[84:09]each other they're tossing each other oh there go the slits they got tossed out already oh there
[84:13]goes the joshua tree it got tossed out already would this lady soul okay great name for an album
[84:18]too bad i'm disappointed there was not a song called lady soul on the album would this get
[84:22]tossed out of the ring at 75 uh right before uh the college dropout which would be tossed out of
[84:29]the ring right after that again we are using my wrestlemania what if aretha and aretha's albums
[84:35]got in the ring at the same time like they were number one and number two in the royal rumble
[84:38]oh now russell now you've got me thinking and i i like when i start thinking actually i was
[84:46]thinking about that strawberry ice cream that you're gonna eat later what that would do to my
[84:49]stomach so is this a rolling well tone that means it is perfect at 75 is this a rolling groan oh
[84:55]this should not have been this high this should be later down listen muscle shoals plus aretha
[84:59]franklin who needs that that is not what i want or is this a rolling boned okay this should have
[85:05]been way higher than 75 we should have heard this earlier on the list now of course that means if
[85:09]you're going to the rolling stone website you should have been this should have been clicked
[85:13]on later because you do click 180 and then you go 80 to 60 and then you go 60 to 40 and then you go
[85:20]40 to 20 and the last page is an interminable 20 to 1 now if you have not visited the rolling stone
[85:26]top 500 albums web page i highly recommend it if you haven't already go to the rolling stone top
[85:29]it is full of fun tidbits it makes uh it basically is what we base this podcast around okay it's like
[85:35]that but more fun so think about that and again every time i edit this part of the podcast i am
[85:39]so bored i don't know who enjoys this i certainly don't and i'm in charge of it
[85:43]okay so aaron what do you think rolling well-toned rolling bone or rolling
[85:49]groan and don't forget your wife took the garbage out because you didn't
[85:52]it's true and i do i do appreciate that and i wish that i had taken it out but we had a busy night and
[85:58]i just did a busy day it's only nine o'clock you still have time i love i love how we had a busy
[86:06]day we did a lot of stuff i did not take out the garbage my wife i messed up i will i i agree and
[86:12]sweetheart if you're listening i apologize next time i'll get the garbage out but i will say about
[86:17]this album man i i don't know how you can possibly anytime we get to hear aretha it it really seems
[86:23]to me that she is one artist who even though she has two appearances in the top 75 on this list
[86:28]i just don't think rolling stone did right by her i think when it comes to soul music when it comes
[86:33]to pop singing there's nobody else who doesn't like her and on this one when she's with a great
[86:38]band what could be better i'm with rob i actually think i'm not even sure this is my favorite
[86:43]release album i think young gifted in black which we haven't even heard yet might be better because
[86:47]it has rock steady and daydreaming on it and it has billy preston and it has donnie hathaway and
[86:53]bernard purdy but i'm not even going to get into that this one okay it better have bernard purdy or
[86:58]definitely does he played on rock steady he did he did the beat for rock steady but uh yeah this
[87:04]is rolling bone it has to be higher she's just too good matt what do you think rolling boned
[87:08]rolling well toned or rolling grown i mean we keep getting into these these discussions and i
[87:14]think that if you say that aretha franklin is a top singer of all time yes right like is this album
[87:21]i mean is there any different to me and i'm a little bit of a contrarian take here is there
[87:28]difference between uh you know album 8 and album 14 i mean i think i get caught up in the fact that
[87:36]she's got 14 albums in like eight years right and then after that there's another 14 and so it's
[87:42]almost like a greatest hits if you will just people just spit them out this album together
[87:47]great like like aaron said great singing great great songs great backup great musicians all
[87:54]that stuff so i'll just say uh you know there's there's absolutely no argument
[87:58]of aretha as a singer her place in history for the pop uh scene and everything you know from
[88:05]where she started on on forward uh but i'll just say this this album is rolling well toned right
[88:11]here at 75 i just want to say that uh young gifted in black is not even the next reetha album we're
[88:17]going to do we have amazing grace at 154 oh well that's also fantastic and then young gifted in
[88:23]black is all the way at 388 aaron so just to put that into perspective i know but i also want to
[88:28]guys i see this on rob's screen when we get to that that run of j dilla donuts radiohead in
[88:33]rainbows and aretha young gifted in black i'm going to be insufferable 10 years from now when
[88:38]we hit that stuff you're going to hate don't forget we talk don't forget right before that
[88:42]we have rocket to russia by the ramones so it's going to be a real bunch of different music that
[88:45]we're listening to okay fun a couple after that that's what i'm excited just to let you know aaron
[88:50]we will be doing that album in 2028 okay oh my god
[88:57]at which point your child will be how old my child will have turned 18 by the way
[89:01]so she and i will be out smoking cigarettes together and buying lottery tickets
[89:04]uh oh no so your kid's gonna be how old at that time i think he'll be 11
[89:10]he'll be 11 28 yeah just old enough in some states to get his firearms license so i think
[89:14]that's gonna be a good mix i think it's gonna be fun get his own love well no he's gonna be
[89:20]obsessed with guns you might as well make it safe that's always the way it goes okay well i'm sorry
[89:23]russell kids should learn how to get a firearms license give me a break uh russell what do you
[89:27]think i would just echo what matt and aaron said to me you've got amazing backup artists the
[89:34]swampers like we were talking about king curtis you've got amazing songwriters that are writing
[89:39]songs areth wrote some of them but a lot of them you know the carol king one all these songs are
[89:43]amazing the lyrics are great you got the greatest singer ever i don't see how this shouldn't be
[89:47]rated higher on the list you listen to like 10 of the last albums we've listened to i just i don't
[89:51]see how this is below half of those so this is rolling boned it should be higher on the list
