Beyonce: Lemonade (2016) (... an episode so good it will take you to Red Lobster)

Beck Did It Better Podcast 2016
About this episodeWe are talking about Beyonce and the ultimate album about infidelity. Jay-Z messed up with Becky with the good hair and we are here as Becky with the good Hars, as in Har di Har har (laughing.)  We debut the new "spanking of the week" segment, we talk about the best way to get student's attention and what places we would get taken to by our special someone. Then we talk about how to give someone the bird, Rob's finger issues, and then Matt takes us to school on the Peabody awards.  Follow us on instagram and twitter at @beckdiditbetter or email us at beckdiditbetter@gmail.com.  Call the bex

[00:00]in 2020 four friends decided to listen to every one of the greatest 500 albums as decided by

[00:04]rolling stone magazine this resulted in a text chain that celebrated the music excoriated the

[00:08]order and led us to making this podcast we are far from experts and we promise to do almost no

[00:13]research all opinions are our own unless you disagree please sit back and enjoy beck did it

[00:19]better all right everybody listen uh uh you know what guys i uh somebody there's a woman who walked

[00:26]by my car the other day totally busted in all my windows i don't know what that was about uh but i

[00:31]did luckily i had my crank uh cranked up radio in the back so i went and grabbed it so let's let's

[00:36]just crank it up right now let's see what is it a crank radio or a cranked up radio those are two

[00:40]different things oh no maybe that's why she smashed out the windows in the bank in the in my

[00:45]car because i had a big sign that said crank in here and that does that crank in here that's my

[00:51]bumper sticker it says cranking in here and i've gotten pulled over quite a bit for that so that's

[00:56]i guess that's my bad all right here we go what were we talking about some of the radio i don't

[01:00]know listeners fill in your own bit can you just can the listeners fill in their own bit for this

[01:04]like why i play this sound drop they can do it dumb asses all right let's listen here we go

[01:08]hey welcome to k-rob k-r-o-b hey have i told you about my new podcast hey wait where where are you

[01:39]asked the title yeah i know i talked about it when i saw you last but wait let me tell you about my

[01:44]podcast it's kind of funny i can tell you where to download oh god you need to skip the first 10

[01:50]episodes

[01:51]when you want to hear about the great

[01:54]electric time

[01:56]beck did it better cranked up the reverb on that one too all right this is uh rob this is rob you

[02:20]know what that's how i am going to introduce this is rob coming at you with beck did it better i'm

[02:26]to the spicy davenport of love here we go i've got uh i've got three guys here with me

[02:31]who have never fucked so good that they've been taken to red lobster now

[02:34]matt told me once he really tried his best and he did end up going to uh old country buffet i got

[02:42]matt in minneapolis how are you doing matt excellent i can't eat the uh the mac and cheese

[02:47]at the old country buffet on 66 in the pen oh brings back memories brings back numbers thanks

[02:55]for having me rob

[02:55]glad to be here

[02:56]turns out they're really sad memories man it's just so sad every time you go to old country buffet

[03:01]he's like i was there by myself

[03:03]i remember old country buffet on a like a wednesday night they would have uh banana splits like they

[03:15]would just have bananas set up by the soft serve machine and i thought it was just the best thing

[03:19]in the world of all time i just i was so happy uh my life sucks now i'm going to therapy all right

[03:24]i've got russ

[03:25]possible what's i have an i have an ex-aunt-in-law who referred to it as the old

[03:34]i'm sorry i didn't i i didn't want to say it

[03:43]that might be a better callback joke than banana from the week or two

[03:50]no i am not saying old up i in fact i gotta commute it out i gotta bleep it out

[03:55]every time i'm not saying i'm not saying that after the song today at the end i refuse we're

[04:00]gonna come up with a better joke don't do it jesus you have to think that over the old country

[04:05]buffets throughout the country that at some point like the neon lights went out and at one point in

[04:09]the history of the world that's what the neon lights said right yeah russell drives it he's

[04:15]like oh wait a minute uh my mom wants when we were going to old country we wanted to go to

[04:21]old country buffet when we were younger my mom says that we can't go i'm wearing regular pants

[04:24]and not stretch pants and i'm like oh my god i'm not going to go to old country buffet when we're

[04:25]every other person there

[04:26]so all right i've got russ russ said he did it once once so well that his date split the bill

[04:35]with him at fudruckers russell in minnesota how are you doing russell yeah we got those big one

[04:39]pound burgers at fudruckers it was awesome and she didn't pay for half rob speaking of your

[04:45]opening your opening song ten times out of nine when my friends say they listen to the podcast

[04:49]i know they're lying but nine times out of ten i know they're trying i went on genius's

[04:55]week so i actually know what songs that's from so i've got our attention i've got to figure it out

[04:59]it's not just wait wait wait i thought you guys were just gonna let me go go through this process

[05:04]and act like i was super cool and super tricky with lyrics but it turns out oh did i just uncover

[05:09]what you do yeah detective rob you could delete that that's why i've got all those secret cameras

[05:14]set up because i'm a detective all right i've got aaron in california aaron said he did it so good

[05:20]he that he went by himself to a mcdonald's drive-thru although it made sense because when he did it

[05:25]so good he was sitting in his car by himself in the drive-thru in the first place so

[05:28]i i did used to go to the mcdonald's drive-thru by myself uh and crank it and crank it stop there

[05:37]before i went to midnight movies at the uptown theater also by myself so the jokes the jokes

[05:42]continue to write themselves i'm great thanks for having me here best sir best movie ever saw at the

[05:46]uptown theater at midnight daisy confused yeah i was probably there we were probably at the exact

[05:52]same time what makes the uptown theater so good

[05:55]theater at midnight something different do they play old movies or what yeah they play old movies

[05:59]so i think i think i saw eric for me in prayer i think we saw the godfather there once and i'm

[06:04]trying to think there's other there was just they always played great i saw hoop dreams for the first

[06:08]time there when that came out things like that it's just it's a it was awesome i also saw thirst

[06:13]which was a uh korean um modern vampire movie by park chan wook so they played yeah foreign film

[06:20]stuff that didn't usually get into the theaters and then the old stuff excuse me excuse me wait a

[06:25]second i got this takes i'm sorry i'm so not used to this this early in the podcast i haven't even

[06:30]gotten through the introduction you're doing a great job of keeping this thing uh yeah

[06:34]we are committed this week by the way to having the shortest episode yet it is already in trouble

[06:40]i have not yet gotten through all four intros by the way when aaron went through the drive-thru

[06:44]afterwards the woman looked at him and said oh i see you have a soft serve already uh and me i'm

[06:49]rob in new york uh i don't know my wife is currently at red lobster with her powerlifting coach she's

[06:55]been there for three years and she's been there for three years and she's been there for three years

[06:55]but i think it's okay i don't think it's a big deal now you're good don't worry

[06:59]he texted me something about all you can eat special so

[07:03]do you like by the way that i jenny's i bailed on that i bailed on that almost like to the point

[07:10]where i'm like how can i edit this so it's not says it's not like my powerlifting coach is

[07:13]on my wife um uh by the way i did eat that second pokeball so that was last night this is three days

[07:19]later after our last record i did hammer that second pokeball and guess what worth it listens

[07:24]i have to do something

[07:25]that i don't like to do but i've had to do it now two weeks in a row and i've got to start

[07:30]off with an apology and now an apology from beck did it better i'd like to take this chance to

[07:35]apologize to absolutely nobody beck does it better we can talk over this this is so long

[07:42]are you going to apologize for roping us into this podcast over the last six months and wasting

[07:48]our lives or not or is this like a big time listen guys we've only got 468 of these left until we're

[07:55]into the list so i think this is fine this is not a big deal what are we going to do yeah i mean what

[07:59]music am i going to listen to when i'm not listening to one cd obsessively every week for

[08:02]the rest of my life i don't know so last week we were doing uh or actually two days ago we were

[08:07]doing miles davis and before we started i told aaron i said aaron if i make a mistake please

[08:11]correct me you need to correct me you need to correct me you need to correct me and uh what

[08:16]aaron didn't count on is that i don't listen to aaron when he talks during the podcast so it's

[08:19]very hard for him to actually correct me here's a clip of me making a terrible mistake this is

[08:23]second one of the podcast

[08:25]now the the uh the album last week was called kind of blue now let's see if you can hear the

[08:30]mistake i made we are all the way up to album 31 this is miles davis kind of cool now guys i was

[08:38]i know you guys listening to the jimmy hendrix episode okay well here no you got to listen to

[08:44]you got to listen to how i just steamroll you guys though when you try to come all the way up

[08:48]to album 31 this is miles davis kind of cool now guys i was listening to the um i know you guys

[08:55]don't do this but i was listening so both of you said something first of all i noticed russ

[08:59]auspiciously didn't say anything both of you said something and at the whole time i was saying i was

[09:03]listening i was listening not listening to anybody they said nope and unfortunately that leads us

[09:08]into our and by the way i knew you were going to say something there so i am now talking over you

[09:11]once again i am going that takes us into our next segment which is the beck did a better spanking of

[09:18]the week whoa someone was a bad little boy at least better get some red lobstron to give you

[09:25]the discipline you crave it's time for the official beck did it better spanking of the week

[09:31]by the way i did download all those sounds out here all right so get ready to get spanked boys

[09:42]because what the fuck i asked you guys to correct me if i got something wrong and you didn't say

[09:47]anything right away we tried no but you gotta stop me like i told you you had one job not to

[09:55]as the main host and us over here as three ringos do you think that we've got any chance of stopping

[10:00]you at all because we've tried we're 31 32 into this adventure is there any chance of us slowing

[10:06]you down rob no once i once i start reading my notes i'm not thinking about anything else except

[10:11]trying to get through my notes without screwing up and it's never ever worked so my my favorite

[10:16]point of the podcast for rob steamrolls us is i would say at least one to two times a podcast

[10:22]it's typically me sometimes aaron

[10:25]we'll have a really clever transition to the next song and rob will hear it think about it just be

[10:31]like nope not happening i'm going my i'm going my own route and he just keeps going and then every

[10:37]time we all start laughing but rob just keeps going and it makes it even funnier so rob i

[10:41]appreciate that you carve your own road and you don't take that take the the beaten path okay

[10:47]aaron i'm not really spanking so you can you can put your put your pants down like

[10:50]and your heart is a rock i don't get what's going on this is weird

[10:55]i don't understand this at all uh just kidding i'm gonna spank you so russ your apology does not

[11:02]affect your spanking russ this is spank for you this is spank for you yeah because you didn't

[11:08]you didn't help me either aaron this is for you i didn't think that both of you would fit into that

[11:13]tent as easily as you did tonight wait what's this one oh this one sounds like a bit and

[11:18]this is aaron he's just a bit harder listen so here's the deal by the way no promises of a clean

[11:25]episode tonight maybe you guys at least at least at least rosie's not stuck in that dryer again

[11:29]yeah this also is going to take us into our see he doesn't hear he goes right over our jokes

[11:35]he just he went right by it it's his joke and he went right by it

[11:40]all right stop for his own joke okay what were you gonna say man i'm sorry i'll i'll i'll we'll

[11:46]stop no no no no no no it's gone it's gone it's beyond us we're we're past it i did hear it though

[11:53]something in a dryer i do think that's very bad i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry

[11:55]all right i was chuckling to myself editing the last one about somebody beat a dryer repair person

[12:00]i was i was trying to edit out something and they had a dryer repair person to joke at the end i was

[12:04]like oh can't edit this whole section out well too bad all right so this is going to lead us

[12:08]our spanking of the week also leads us into the countdown of the week

[12:11]listen here's the deal russell sent us a text this week and he said that he went on a date

[12:19]with a woman who did not like crumbs on her feet did not own a microwave and hung her shirts

[12:25]up in the air and guess what russell for not talking about on last week's podcast

[12:30]this is an official spanking of the week you also get spanked and this is also your

[12:34]discipline you crave it's time for the official beck did it better spanking of the week

[12:42]i don't know why the boat horn is in there by the way i think that might be some latent thing

[12:50]i have messed up where i hear a boat horn and i get very scared uh so russell you went on a date

[12:55]with the female erin i i did typically i don't like to tell anything about my my dates on the

[13:02]podcast unless it's something from really really long ago where i know it can never come back to

[13:06]haunt me i know she will never listen to it and i don't think it's right to like put stuff out there

[13:11]with someone that i could potentially be seeing so i did go out on a date and i did meet the female

[13:17]erin i texted you guys that i had forgotten to bring it up in the last podcast but essentially

[13:22]we were sitting there we're having a really good conversation back and forth and at one point i

[13:25]talked about how she was very kind of tidy very always cleaning up after her house and that

[13:30]she would she couldn't stand walking on crumbs and i and i immediately started like chuckling i was

[13:37]like how often this has never come up in my life other than two times it's erin and this woman on

[13:43]the date so i started kind of laughing to myself and thinking wow there's there's more people out

[13:48]there and when she was talking about it it makes sense i wouldn't want to walk on crumbs either

[13:52]it's just not something that comes up on a general basis on

[13:55]at my house you must be more tidy than i i thought she was at your house and she's like oh i don't

[14:01]like walking on crumbs and you're like oh so weird i shouldn't have left them all out there like that

[14:07]but then with the conversation kept going and at one point rob what was the second thing i said

[14:14]that she was like erin for uh she did not have a microwave oh yeah she she brought up that she

[14:18]had moved into a new house and she did not have a microwave and immediately so i start chuckling

[14:23]to myself again

[14:25]and i asked her i'm like is it some sort of free i kind of ask her is it you don't like

[14:32]the potential side effects i know rob says there's no side effects in this but no she goes she goes

[14:38]no i'm just dumb as shit like i don't get what's going on i don't understand the modern world

[14:42]i'm scared when a car starts i get nervous by that so i asked that planes fly because of magic

[14:49]i don't understand she kind of said no and then i thought well maybe is this a

[14:55]you you want to connect with your food because i feel like when you listen to erin erin wants to

[14:59]connect with his food he wants it to be more of a intimate process as he prepares things as opposed

[15:05]to just throwing in the microwave and she said uh kind of a little bit but not really and then

[15:09]she eventually said i just didn't have enough room in my house so she wasn't completely oh my god

[15:14]she's got a small house too oh holy shit tiny house she's like i barely have room in the tent

[15:20]in my garage and so this was the second time where this kept coming up and i was like oh my god i don't

[15:25]and i kept saying oh my buddy on the podcast and this was immediately probably the reason i got

[15:29]rejected afterwards but but so and then a few minutes later she was talking about we were kind

[15:35]of going back and forth and joking about like pet peeves or kind of quirks or something just

[15:39]having a fun conversation and she said i always have to hang up all my clothes and i was like

[15:43]what what and i thought she was talking about hanging up wet clothes but it turns out

[15:48]she was just saying i hang up all my clothes t-shirts and everything so she doesn't dry them

[15:53]she uses a normal dryer and she doesn't dry them she uses a normal dryer and she doesn't dry them

[15:55]she's not a complete imbecile like aaron when it comes to using modern technology but did she have

[16:00]those weird hanger humps in the shoulders of her t-shirt then like when she you know when she took

[16:05]off her blazer at the end of the night aaron are you asking about her hangers of the shirt come on

[16:10]are you asking about her hangers and her humps i mean come on i'm talking about on the shoulders

[16:14]yeah you're asking if she has heavy hangers oh come on gross remind me to not ask any of my

[16:20]dates about their lovely lady humps as they just put it there that yeah but so

[16:25]this is why i was in the mcdonald's drive-thru alone so literally there was three times where

[16:30]i had to tell her this is too i i'm your you sound like my buddy aaron here and then eventually i

[16:37]thought it went well turns out it did not went well so we will not be going out again so typically

[16:41]i would save this for over the one year period the statute of limitations to say anything but

[16:45]rob if you're gonna spank me over it i'll just get it out of the way now oh you're not gonna save it

[16:52]for album 85 on the list yeah

[16:55]yes oh wait i have a film of aaron in the drive-thru too all right so here's the thing

[17:00]uh yeah yeah that is an erotic story russ yes would we all like to date the female aaron

[17:06]yes okay aaron go put it aaron go put a wig on i just want to see something real quick

[17:11]um it's off the rails already

[17:15]all the way off the rails which that but that leads me to this question which one of us would

[17:21]you guys marry okay um

[17:25]and why and why is it mad you know what i mean like objectively i cannot be the answer because

[17:31]plenty of people have passed on that over the last four years isn't it all aaron isn't it aaron

[17:36]no just across the board no i would marry mad i think i but i think russell you might be a second

[17:40]i think we could hang out we could have fun i think aaron might have the most intensity to

[17:47]marry him but i think he's got a smaller window of women who it would work for right

[17:51]no i'm talking about us marrying oh if i had to marry one of you guys yeah we have to marry one

[17:57]of us russell and why is it rob you you wouldn't listen to me when i would make jokes you would

[18:01]just plow ahead with your own thing so rob i would have to kick you out yeah but russell i'm so strong

[18:06]you're a lot let's wrestle your ass down to the bed oh my god you wouldn't stand a chance think

[18:12]about that you keep like gyrating in your chair over there this is making me incredibly uncomfortable

[18:16]well this chair with no pants on is incredibly comfortable

[18:18]i don't know

[18:19]what the deal is

[18:20]what are you looking back at

[18:22]i just that's how big it is you guys remember ever remember playing the game like do dump or

[18:28]marry fuck marry kill whatever you play it so maybe maybe that's the real game if i were going

[18:33]to play that right now okay i think i would have to dump rob i couldn't handle him spanking me all

[18:38]the time um i might have to oh jeez i don't know if i can play the rest of this game i just know

[18:47]i gotta dump rob i can't handle this no i'm just asking who you'd marry okay man who would you marry

[18:50]no this now i told you guys at the beginning i said you can't say no to me when i say things

[18:55]i'm definitely dumping rock no actually you know what rob and i this is not who we're dumping we're

[18:59]just marrying somebody guys come on no we're gonna dump rob first oh this is a positive you guys are

[19:04]you guys are falling into the marge trap we did you and i did take that test with you know like

[19:08]you we were playing that uh game where you had all that food up the one time and we both were like

[19:12]nachos beer and a pretzel at a game we're both like milk duds popcorn and a soda yeah so i think

[19:19]we we would we would match up well if we just had to you know strictly on groceries and what we're

[19:24]eating when we're out so okay thank you matt for picking me aaron who would you pick uh russell

[19:29]russell's been one of my day i've been down with russell for over 20 years okay well guess what i

[19:34]guess we paired off it's me and matt and russell and aaron yeah i mean that's it there you go but

[19:39]aaron i'm glad we got this figured out aaron what's up how you doing you know this whole that's

[19:43]what this whole album is about you know what i mean like pair up and immediately i cheat aaron we

[19:48]can we can try this

[19:49]baking thing if you want to try it out i'm not i'm not precluding the possibility that we can be

[19:54]into that type of oh all right so man we will see later if we're heading to red lobster later uh so

[20:02]that joke is just it's not funny to anybody yet but it'll be funny in a little i think it's oh i

[20:09]think that was a meme already i think everybody knows it on this album yeah beyonce says if you

[20:15]fuck me good i'll take you to red lobster if you fuck me good i'll fly you in my chopper and i was

[20:19]like what that

[20:19]those are not the two same things like i would much rather go to red lobster

[20:23]flying in a chopper is terrifying yeah it's scary when those things bank hard right you think you're

[20:28]it's scary i would toss my chesapeake bay biscuits that i've been eating uh so i've got uh rolling

[20:34]going uh matt how's it going with you uh good uh you know i don't know if anything too exciting

[20:39]good to hear it sweetie unless thanks dear listen to the communication you guys have already this

[20:45]is fantastic that must be that must be difficult for you

[20:49]you know you're talking over me so you know it's kind of par for the course with rob but you know

[20:54]you guys talk about me talking over you guys like that's because i'm a teacher right and so normally

[20:58]i'm talking to like 15 20 kids and they're always talking i got to talk over everybody all the time

[21:02]hey rob do you have do you have a uh do you have a line that you use like for the is it like you

[21:07]know two claps you know everybody look at me if i really want to get the kids attention

[21:11]yeah i walk into a room and i say excuse me who wrote this swear word and every single

[21:19]middle school boy looks at me because they want to see a swear word more than anything else in the

[21:23]world and i say who wrote the swear word and they look at me and i go okay now that i have your

[21:28]attention what do you guys want for lunch today you know i've got these different sandwiches or

[21:31]i will also if i'm showing a movie wait wait wait stop stop i'm showing them

[21:35]wait you serve lunch are you the lunch lady or are you a science teacher well okay so maybe you

[21:41]guys don't realize there's a pandemic there's a pandemic going on joe slap slap joe i know erin

[21:49]keeps calling it scamdemic and he's got some thoughts about mass that i won't get into now

[21:52]but there is something going on called a pandemic meanwhile i'm teaching a school where the kids

[21:57]have to still go to school because otherwise the parents would flip their shit and so we all have

[22:01]lunch together in a room which is not normal and so what they have is that every day they bring up

[22:06]three different types of sandwiches and these sandwiches are placed outside the room

[22:09]and so they get to pick the sandwiches so i don't actually bring in the sandwiches although i do

[22:14]the hour before of course they have a snack so i walk around with a snack tray it's humiliating

[22:19]i told him too i was like this is not lady yeah so i went in you told us your teacher what's on

[22:23]what's on the snack tray oh my god so the snack tray has talking about food you know i need the

[22:27]details pound cake lorna dune like uh i've had too many pound cakes over the years too many pounds

[22:34]uh what else uh pound cake sounds like something you get at red lobster uh uh after red lobster

[22:40]they have um nutrient bars and then like these terrible granola bars and then they also have

[22:48]these terrible granola bars and then they also have these terrible granola bars and then they also

[22:51]have these terrible granola bars and then they also have these terrible granola bars and then they also

[22:52]pick the oreos right away so i'm like well i guess this is what you get they're just eating oreos then

[22:55]they wonder why they can't sit still during my class also when i show a movie in my class

[22:59]i'll say to the kids like um wait wait stop stop stop stop so you you're the lunch lady and you

[23:06]also show movies so it sounds like you're a cafeteria worker and a substitute teacher not

[23:11]a science teacher is that correct uh no i'm a science listen listen school is so boring school

[23:17]is so boring classes are an hour long it is boring as hell you're there you have them for an hour and

[23:22]you show a movie oh i at least one i'm usually two like i'm like youtube clips teaching with

[23:27]youtube now it's so easy it's like i'm like ken burns in there i'm putting together clips i'm

[23:32]making it fun you know you got a similar haircut it looks like too huh well that's part of my role

[23:40]so and then i'll tell the kids like kids just let you know this movie there's a little bit of nudity

[23:45]try to get by it and they'll watch this whole like animation about dna replication

[23:50]that's brilliant they're like there's no nudity i was like oh yeah okay sorry about that

[23:55]my teaching style is not that different from me hosting this podcast

[24:00]it really isn't like it's not it's kind of why i asked i wanted it i wanted to know if you're

[24:05]like using some of these tricks on us oh yeah try to get this thing to move along but even though

[24:09]we're already at like 28 minutes and we're supposed to be at 22 right now according to

[24:13]the script that you sent out yeah this class is an hour long i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god

[24:15]we got time the other thing is that i had a kid on zoom the other day say i wasn't funny

[24:19]on the zoom call and he was one of these kids that are at home and he goes well you're not

[24:22]very funny and so i just went boop and i put him in the waiting room for like two minutes he just

[24:25]sat in the waiting room being good to be in the class it was so satisfied it was like everything

[24:29]i wanted so am i like a clown to you ha ha do i make you laugh is that what you said waiting room

[24:35]uh rosie rolling going how's it going with you it's going great i had a really i had a culinary

[24:41]a culinary breakthrough this evening i i don't like culinary says that we've been doing this for

[24:45]i love it i love it i don't want to overstate my achievements here because i bought a pre-made

[24:51]pizza dough so i i bought a ball of dough right so i didn't make the dough myself but every time

[24:57]it is pie day by the way for those of us who are oh those of us 3.1428 we're recording on pie day

[25:05]today so i wanted to make a pizza pie for dinner and i i bought a ball of dough and usually this

[25:11]turns out to be a disaster it turns out to me saying like oh yeah i'm just gonna make a nice

[25:15]homemade pizza it's not it's it's low stress jenny's a coach just texted me and told me that

[25:20]it's pie day twos but i know

[25:22]red lobster and pie in one day

[25:33]was it pie before red lobster or after red i don't know this is questionable i'm so sorry

[25:40]aaron you're i i had to get that joke out it's always better to do you know do that before and

[25:45]then good

[25:45]at dinner after it's much more relaxing yeah yeah so i have kids usually uh i buy a ball of pizza

[25:54]dough i think i'm gonna make a nice homemade pizza and then i just fuck it up a ton of different ways

[26:00]i end up with like a weirdo pizza crust that i put a hole in somehow and i have to like i try

[26:05]to re-stretch it and it's messed up but tonight i kept the interventions minimal i ended up with

[26:11]a nearly circular pie with very few

[26:15]thin spots in it baked that thing in our new toaster oven it was a pretty decent

[26:21]home-cooked pizza i felt really good about that so that's where i'm really going i i made pizza

[26:26]at home and i did not fuck it up this time where did you get the dough from well i ordered it from

[26:31]the grocery delivery service so it was from a place called full belly farm try try this next

[26:37]time go call up your local pizza place and say i just want to i just want a ball of dough can i get

[26:42]a ball of dough for me what the fuck they'll do it for you they just got to sit back there they'll

[26:45]sell it to you for a buck or two and it's way better than any of that grocery stuff so try that

[26:50]i think you just changed my life because i i've made homemade pizzas a ton and to the point where

[26:55]anytime i make a homemade pizza now my kids just start making fun of me immediately when i announce

[27:01]it they're like they're like oh my god you remember this one because every room yeah every

[27:05]exactly stick them in the waiting room every one of my pizzas comes out looking like pangea i don't

[27:10]know what it is but like i can never get the shape and then it's like all the cheese and pepperoni are

[27:15]on one side like it is and it's like for some reason the dough is thicker in some parts and

[27:19]others and then doesn't get cooked and it's always just an absolute disaster i mean it's so

[27:23]supposed to be so easy and relaxing and like nice fun family do you guys pull coals do you guys pull

[27:28]coals in the uh in the crust before you put it in no what see i should have called you matt i should

[27:34]have gotten out on the zoom before i matt you used to own a pizza restaurant franchise correct i did

[27:39]i did so what what was the biggest key to have to running a successful pizza place what well

[27:44]i only had it for like two years so i don't know if you it's probably the key to the front door

[27:48]yeah no but like i mean there's just little thing like if you don't perforate the crust right then

[27:56]you get big bubbles so you gotta poke hole you know like pizza shops got these roller things

[28:00]you'll hear them rolling you know you gotta poke it with like a knife or a fork or something just go

[28:05]and that'll get that but seriously rob yeah just go say hey can i just get a ball of dough you

[28:11]know and they probably won't even charge you for it you say hey i order from here all the time can i

[28:14]get a ball of dough i just want to try to make one at home and see what happens now if i go into the

[28:18]pizza place here on uh on the island where i live and i have a ski mask on and i yell give me all

[28:23]your dough do you think i'm gonna get in trouble for that no you'll be fine just hosh and tony play

[28:29]they won't even know what's going on rich neighborhood that you live in they'll just

[28:32]wonder like what's this guy doing just don't bring that spanking paddle in there with you

[28:36]rob and you'll be just fine yeah all right it's always at the ready i got that ready already i'll

[28:41]tell you what matt that was a pretty smart thing to say i think that is smart

[28:44]that was matt's smart comment of the week how to make pizza that's some smart shit how to make pizza

[28:50]yeah rob rolling going how's it going with you i'll tell you what uh rolling going with me and

[28:56]i gotta pull up my notes because i totally forgot uh so rolling going okay so here's the deal i we

[29:00]are recording this podcast a little bit early partially because i have uh some lifting stuff

[29:04]coming up but partially because i'm going down what the fuck is that do you guys hear that

[29:10]yes we hear it

[29:12]spodyodydopalicious

[29:12]spodyody

[29:13]podcast

[29:14]that's the podcast telling you to shut up for once rob instead of

[29:18]you telling us to shut up

[29:20]what the fuck did you just say to me when i turned on the music it's like i turned on the music you're

[29:24]like oh damn damn

[29:26]i'd rather listen to that rob anyway let's let's just listen

[29:30]okay so not only is that rude but it's also the same exact joke i was just about to make so that's

[29:36]just just repeat it we can delete erin out but it does it does make me think that maybe erin and i

[29:43]have a little bit of a connection

[29:44]so let's think about that so here's the deal erin you committed to me here you committed to me here

[29:49]don't don't start flirting with rob on this this podcast no don't do it uh oh it's hot in here i

[29:55]don't know about you guys if i have to release a release a an album like beyonce did calling you

[30:00]out for cheating on me erin go smash some cars it's so good yeah uh so here's the deal is that

[30:06]i'm going down in a couple weeks to visit my parents so my wife and i are both vaccinated

[30:10]my parents are vaccinated i have not seen my parents since last summer

[30:13]we're going down to florida to visit my parents and i have been thinking about it for a while i'm

[30:18]super excited bringing the kids down uh we were thinking about disney which i i was really excited

[30:22]because i thought that'd be some great podcast content but they're not selling the fast passes

[30:26]right now and i am not waiting in line okay uh that is not what capitalism is all about it's

[30:31]about me paid to go past other people um awesome so i am going down to florida and i was thinking

[30:37]to myself i'm like i am so excited to see my parents i am worried that i'm gonna like literally

[30:41]just start crying my eyes out when i see them because i just i just i just i just i just i just

[30:43]it's just been you know it's been hard on me or whatever yeah that's natural did you just laugh

[30:47]at that erin did you just laugh wait no it was it was me it was me i laughed i laughed i couldn't

[30:54]help but i lost your job as your professional therapist right isn't that true it didn't go so

[31:01]well it's about the only thing that's gone more poorly than my dating life was my job as a

[31:07]therapist when i would laugh at people with this they were gonna cry about it so no you're right to

[31:13]laugh at me uh but here's the deal is that i was like i'm so you know just like i said i'm so

[31:18]excited to go see him and i did i went and got my haircut this weekend uh it was long and now i have

[31:23]like pretty much i said to the guy hey can you make me look as alt right as possible so i got

[31:27]the skin fade with kind of the short on top into the faux hawk i definitely look like i'm about to

[31:32]grab some tiki torches and start walking around and i had a zoom call with some extended family

[31:38]today to see my sister's uh new baby and everything and i got on and my mom

[31:43]immediately goes oh your haircut oh no i wonder if it's going to grow out by the time you come

[31:48]so that whole thing where i was going to cry when i saw him i realized that absolutely nothing has

[31:55]changed since i was 12 years old my life is still exactly the same like i was like okay well i am

[32:03]excited to see you too i guess like rob where where did you go get your haircut do you go to

[32:08]you go to like a barber a stylist what's your what where do you get your haircut so i went into i

[32:13]dropped my kid off and she had some art class or something up on the upper east side and so i had

[32:17]an hour so i went and i found on yelp i found a barber because i still have not found a barber

[32:21]in new york that i like for a while jenny's stylist was coming to our house and cutting all of our

[32:25]hair on american and and he's great and i love adam i think he's great and he you know and but

[32:32]the thing is is that jenny would not show me what she was paying and i realized that that's really

[32:38]really bad because she he was charging me what he would charge jenny and then charging the girls what

[32:42]he charged jenny and i was like this is i mean literally i think one time he came over it was

[32:47]like twelve hundred dollars like that's not an exaggeration because like she got a color and then

[32:53]you know he took her to red lobster i was like i don't that is way too financially responsible

[32:58]your your guy's marriage could be going down the tubes here if aaron keeps flirting with you we

[33:02]might have to do a an old switcheroo if this keeps up listen if your wife's if your wife's

[33:07]spending too much money on shit is cool call me miles davis wait is this the

[33:12]right episode for that hey way to poach my line from last week so i go into this random barber

[33:16]shop and my problem is in new york every single barber i've had is always some guy who uh is just

[33:23]more interested in speaking to the other barbers in the place than they are talking to me and you

[33:27]know me i want to be talked well i want people to listen to me talk that's what i really want

[33:32]and so i walk in and there's a middle school boy getting his haircut with the mom in the chair next

[33:37]to him and the mom goes i don't like the way you're cutting the hair you're pulling it back

[33:40]and i don't like how you're cutting it like this and

[33:42]show him the back does does he like the back and the boy was so embarrassed i don't know if

[33:45]he's a mom or mom mom should not mom should not be allowed in a barber shop with a young man or

[33:50]i i remember matt i know maybe you have gone to barber shop too but i've gone to the same barber

[33:55]since i was about seven years old so it's 30 plus years it at one point was like five or six old

[34:01]dudes over time people have left people have died but there's still the three guys that were there

[34:06]30 plus years ago and i go in they know who i am there's kind of like an unwritten that's what i

[34:12]there's an there's kind of an understanding that hey i know i've been coming here a long time you

[34:17]know it we're going to talk about the twins we're going to talk about a few things but we don't want

[34:21]to know anything more about each other's lives other than the basic we're going to talk about

[34:25]sports we're going to talk about the weather we're going to make the small talk but i love going to

[34:30]the old school barber shop i've been going forever but matt do you ever go to the an old school barber

[34:35]shop yeah and but my barber now is i don't know he's 42 or 43 but the bought a shop from a guy who

[34:42]wanted for like 45 years um and anybody who goes to a stylist and not a barber is just un-american

[34:51]it is just it is like one of those things as a human being as a male you you have to go to a bar

[34:59]you have to have a barber cut your hair and you have to have like the straight razor

[35:03]you know to line you up and you've got to have the guy you know you've got to have the other guys

[35:08]like you're talking about russell around you know to be talking about whatever and there's always some

[35:12]crazy dude in there who's just talking about the new gun he got stuff like that and he's then you

[35:16]just you figure out that you're you're a normal person and you hear all the crazy stuff in the

[35:21]barber shop and it is a spot to hang out but to go to like a fantastic sam's or something like that

[35:27]and i'm probably offending somebody and i apologize but you know somebody's sister

[35:31]somebody works at one but to go to something like that and pay any amount of money to have some

[35:38]somebody who's trained in dying hair or cutting women's hair cut your

[35:41]hair is just un-american absolutely un-american i have a funny barbershop story but matt but rob

[35:47]you might be oh no no no no aaron anytime you say you have a funny story i can't fucking wait

[35:51]i'll tell you what i the other day my wife was trying to go to sleep i told her that glasses

[35:55]story we just got back up we're like we can't even go to sleep now we're loving this story so much

[36:00]i woke up the kids i went in their room i woke them up and go you gotta listen to the story

[36:03]and you know what they did they thanked me they thanked me for waking them up

[36:06]they fucking love that shit my my barbershop story

[36:11]chapter two aaron's funny stories yeah i so i i've been doing i've been cutting my own hair

[36:17]now for about 20 years but as a as a bald balding you know oh you're not balding you're bald yeah

[36:25]i'm bald so i just started cutting my hair a long time ago and i think this i'm gonna try to tell

[36:30]this in a not offensive way um good i think there's a lot you're you're my spouse on this

[36:36]this episode so if you embarrass yourself you embarrass me okay so just keep that in mind i feel

[36:41]that so i think there's a there's a lot about this album uh the the lemonade album for everyone to

[36:49]love and uh similar to things i said about lauren hill there's a lot that's universal about what

[36:55]beyonce is talking about but there is a lot in fact most of what she's talking about that's

[37:00]specific to black people and even more specific to black women and this relates to my barbershop

[37:05]story which is when i started i was gonna say this funny story is off to a great start when i

[37:10]started cutting my hair bald i was like i'm gonna cut my hair bald i'm gonna cut my hair bald i'm

[37:11]shaving it i thought i was i thought oh you know i was living in minneapolis i thought well

[37:16]who does the best bald haircuts the black barbershops right so maybe i should go a bald

[37:24]haircut is that what you call it a bald haircut yeah a bald you know shaving the head whatever

[37:29]you would call it when you go in when you go into the barbershop they say oh point to the

[37:33]picture you want you just point to like a clean spot on the floor like what are you talking like

[37:37]been there for 20 years now so i thought who knows how to do bald heads better than

[37:41]a black barbershop because that's what they they do for their clients who prefer that right

[37:45]so i went to a black barbershop and they treated me so nicely they didn't look at me like what in

[37:52]the hell is this guy doing in here which they should have because i was in a place where i

[37:56]should not have been and i just thought like oh i'm here to pay for a haircut like any other

[38:00]paying customer like of course i'm just gonna like he's green yeah right they treated me very

[38:05]nicely the guy who cut my hair was fine uh with me he seemed to treat me okay i was so nervous

[38:11]that i was sweating profusely so he kept trying to cool me off so he could cut my hair all i wanted

[38:16]was a bald haircut and then there's a remix of the you guys remember the jadakiss song why

[38:22]if you don't it's okay i guess what it's playing of course i remember it it's playing in the

[38:28]background right now there's a line i would sing i want the lyrics to line it up but i can't recall

[38:34]them and so the guy who was cutting my hair was very cool with me as you know i'm sure he wasn't

[38:40]people pumped me to be there but he's very nice but there's a line in this jadakiss song that that

[38:45]i'm not going to quote it exactly but it it discusses um why some black people have light

[38:51]skin and what that has to do with how they were treated by white people during times when they

[38:59]were enslaved and the man who was not cutting my hair was looking me dead in the eyes during this

[39:05]verse and i realized immediately that while i was in there being as respectful as i

[39:10]could they were treating me respectfully that that was not my place to be and i have not been

[39:15]back to a barber shop since because i just now i just cut my own hair boy that sounds that sounds

[39:20]bad aaron but at least i mean you you do kind of have just have to look at him be like oh i am part

[39:25]of the problem here like yes i acknowledge i'm the problem like it was a learning experience for

[39:29]sure i've not been back that's terrifying and guess what aaron you were right that story funny

[39:34]as shit holy cow get in here aaron if i would have known you had this funny story i would have buried

[39:40]a long time ago i would not have waited till tonight's episode holy shit chapter two ends

[39:44]with a bang i mean i spent the last six months wondering if it would be rob mad or you and i

[39:50]chose you and i would have it wouldn't have even been a choice now listen i would have heard this

[39:54]every time i add a tag on one of these stories i end up editing it out but i just want to say i

[39:58]did go to a barber in vermont once and i walked in and there was a woman who also walked in right

[40:04]after me and the barber turned her and goes hey everybody this is the baker next door she's got

[40:08]the best buns in town and i was like yep i'm in the right place i'm in the right place i'm in the

[40:10]place this is perfect there you go this guy is going to be canceled about two years better get

[40:14]my haircut soon yeah there's two things about the barber you know there's the there is the old

[40:18]school barbers and russell maybe you've got it the guy who's literally he's trying to he's on a timer

[40:23]10 minutes you're in you're out no matter what so even if you even if he's taken forever you know

[40:28]he's finishing your haircut in 10 minutes right you're out you know so that's kind of the old

[40:32]school way and it's the old military cuts and all that you got to get away from those guys

[40:36]you get rob he looks like somebody really faded you up real nice

[40:40]took some time i mean that that's a slick looking i don't know about your mustache though did he

[40:44]did he hit your mustache i didn't have time because i had to get i had to go grab my kid

[40:48]after the hour and that mom and the son took up so much time i couldn't have a time for a

[40:52]for a touch you're mentioning the mustache have you guys ever gotten like the the shave at the

[40:57]barber the the hot shave or whatever you call it i have never gotten one of those i used to do it

[41:01]all the time and after about the fifth time i did it i realized i hate it every time i do it i hate

[41:06]it because i'm so ticklish that when they get a straight razor and they

[41:10]get by my chin i mean here's me doing the ultimate you know and you guys looking at me you know i'm a

[41:15]man like i'm a man's man there's just like i mean check this out look at look at the size of this

[41:19]thing so here's the thing is that wait no no just wait it's a big ear wait a minute wait a minute

[41:23]wait a minute okay wait no no wait okay no wait i'm just i'm okay well listen i'll show you later

[41:29]it's gonna sometimes this happens but here's the thing is that i when i when i get that shave right

[41:34]i like it would start to tickle under my neck and i would go i would be like

[41:40]so here's the guy shaving i'm like and i just couldn't do it and now since the thing i turned

[41:45]mad onto this the double-sided razor i get just as good of a shave at home i like it so it sounds

[41:50]like when rob used to get excited at the dentist and he would have to leave in an uncomfortable

[41:53]manner put him on the glass uh so man last thing uh i know that uh you you have what's a good way

[42:03]for me to say this you were probably respectful to women when you were younger and so you had you had

[42:09]two sons instead of me i have two daughters because of choices that i made when i was younger

[42:13]and things i've said that have now come back to haunt me call that karma yeah exactly karma has

[42:17]given me two daughters have you taken your sons to this barber or is that a dad only space nope

[42:23]they go we take them in and uh eddie the younger one has decided he's growing his hair out so we

[42:29]got actually went got a couple headbands for him today so oh he's going what does the barber think

[42:33]about that does he like what a hippie freak you know one of those guys i mean no gumballs for you

[42:39]have been hit hard by covid and so i mean i feel horrible for places like that oh yeah it's like

[42:45]literally you got 100 customers one week and you're down to 10 right so that'd be horrible

[42:49]so no but no leo eddie was four months old six months old and got his first haircut and got cut

[42:55]by this barber and leo's been going ever since yeah well leo leo was there like probably day

[43:00]one i remember the baby pictures from that kid he was like he had a big he was like a troll

[43:03]yeah he was pretty good so no so we you know they both go and yeah and i've and i make

[43:09]sure to tell them that you know you go to barbers i don't do a lot of that uh you know masculine man

[43:15]thing like oh you gotta don't wear pink and think you know stuff like the only about the only thing

[43:20]i do is make sure that they know that they got to go to a barber that's about it to all those

[43:25]parents out there say hi to your new dad that was a parenting tip from matt oh yeah i always think

[43:33]the coolest things about the barbers and what was when people would have like funny names from like

[43:37]it's the butcher like they

[43:39]would always have like your brother or whatever would always call him the butcher they would

[43:43]always have like a funny name where you know you're going to go in they're going to mess up

[43:46]your hair but it just is what it is and you go back again the next week see what's the what's

[43:51]the difference between a good and a bad haircut what about three days your hair just grows out

[43:56]and it's fine you know it's all good so don't worry about it all right so that is it for this

[44:03]uh listen we are on to the three things this part of the podcast that nobody likes all right so

[44:09]we're talking today about uh 2016s i love how i'm looking at the three things and rob literally has

[44:14]four things he claims it's three and there are four bullet points well yeah no i did three things

[44:20]it's just a catchy phrase you can't it's the real it's the rule of three and then the rob's rule of

[44:24]three where there's one i could i could never put up with this dishonesty there's a reason you and

[44:28]matter matt's much more forgiving than i am there's a reason you guys belong together well you know

[44:33]that's the way it is rolls right off this rolls right uh so here's the deal is that this album

[44:37]when it came out in 2000 it was

[44:38]2016 right guys i'm not gonna have to issue another apology you're correct yeah this came

[44:42]out her her album before that beyonce was a straight surprise album they dropped that just

[44:47]out of the middle of nowhere videos and everything it was huge uh and this one was kind of a semi

[44:52]surprise album because they had announced on hbo they were doing something called lemonade so every

[44:56]everybody knew beyonce was up to something but this album came out as kind of a huge surprise

[45:03]and what was really surprising and if you were going to get into this album you have to go find

[45:08]lemonade music video but it's not a video it's like a movie it's what do they call it a visual

[45:13]album a visual album you don't realize how brilliant beyonce is and i know we've talked

[45:20]about it before that oh beyonce has all these other people working on it it's not just her

[45:23]i don't care she is the queen she is in charge of this boss when you watch this

[45:28]visual album you really you get so much more out of this because yeah there are songs on

[45:33]the album that touch that touch on infidelity obviously and they're touching on uh the

[45:38]black female experience in the united states but when you watch the video of it you realize like

[45:43]she is coming hard on this whole thing and it is incredible to watch and you realize how brilliant

[45:48]she is uh but that's how she released this and then she released the single formation the day

[45:55]before this is how baller she is the day before she was singing that song in the super bowl and

[46:00]the day after she announced her tour like it's just an incredible setup for an album to think

[46:06]about somebody like you know the beach boys doing something like that or the beatles like it's just

[46:10]so crazy she's kind of mastered this new era of music with no mtv like what do you do when there's

[46:16]no mtv to get your stuff played you just you bring it like beyonce does and if you look on

[46:20]wikipedia my second point is that her writing process the second song on this album i think

[46:25]has a dozen writers and apparently what happened uh is that like father misty father john misty was

[46:31]talking about it she would literally just send an idea and then he would send back his idea and then

[46:36]she would be like yep i like this i don't like this i'm going to change this and so she's a very

[46:39]collaborative author which is why we see so many people working on this but again i think listening

[46:44]to this album you have a very strong vision of what she sees and then of course the themes of

[46:48]this album i mean obviously we're talking about jay-z's uh very bad decision to cheat on her and

[46:54]then she makes a whole album about it and i know it's a tired joke but just the idea of jay-z having

[46:59]to not only hear her make this album be part of the visual album and then put this on his own title

[47:04]to make money off of it and then she's like yeah i like this i don't like this i don't like this i'm

[47:06]it's just such an odd thing of like him having to hear about this over and over and over and really

[47:11]and what you don't hear as much on the album but you do see on the visual album is really she's

[47:15]talking about the intersectionality of being a black woman in the u.s and how they're really

[47:19]some of the most oppressed people in the entire thing and i think it is kind of a jump start of

[47:24]where we're going to see her next albums like homecoming uh and like what's the one that she's

[47:28]where the grammys are tonight uh black is king yeah black is king with the with black parade on

[47:33]there i i it's it's kind of the we're looking into the future of beyonce in this album as well

[47:39]and the last thing is my my three point my 3.5 russell my 3.5 point is that i this album really

[47:46]remind me of kanye's that's the album that this brings to mind the most it's just different songs

[47:50]the one we listen to dark twisted beautiful yeah because it's like you you hear kind of the same

[47:58]like there's these vast differences in the songs i think the lyrics the clever lyrics remind me of

[48:02]it as well and guys i'm i'm gonna tell you what this this album it's a it's a banger straight up

[48:07]and let's talk about it we got pray you catch me as the first one yeah this whole thing is just a

[48:17]an absolute beast i think one thing that i'm struck by i watched the visual album last night

[48:23]for the first time ever and i was absolutely blown away by the the imagery and the story she put

[48:31]together

[48:32]um i think it's notable that a lot of this takes out takes place outside in nature in the visual

[48:38]album and so she's she's reclaiming so many things that had been taken away in her culture and and

[48:45]to reclaim being outside and doing the outdoors is is just a small piece of what i think was taken

[48:51]from from people like her and it's just an incredible statement the whole thing and for

[48:56]those of you that don't know i mean this album really is about jay-z especially the first part

[49:02]of jay-z cheating on her so for example the opening lines of this album you can taste the

[49:06]dishonesty it's all over your breath as you pass it off for being so cavalier you're just like whoa

[49:11]here we go this is this is like when you come home and they're like we need to talk about something

[49:15]you're like whoa no red lobster for me tonight see you guys later if this if this song was

[49:21]written by my future ex-wife it would definitely be about i could i could smell the the white castle

[49:25]on your breath

[49:26]baby i brought you your own crave case

[49:32]please forgive me uh second song i gotta say it's it's generic but i think it's my favorite

[49:38]song on the album hold up it rips a little calypso slash reggae is this what you say

[49:43]yeah there's a lot of island island influence on the whole album which actually

[49:49]yeah to me it harkens back again to lauren hill because she was also pulling from the

[49:55]influence and i i think it's sort of part of beyonce's makeup but but she's like prince

[50:01]she's just

[50:02]pulling in influences from all over this song is so good and there's a writing credit on this

[50:10]one for the aas for the song maps because she's essentially interpolating their song i know and

[50:15]i could not hear it i love that song and i could not hear it anywhere in here i have to it's mostly

[50:19]just the lyrics because in maps she says wait they don't love you like i love you wait and i'm gonna

[50:25]play that song under this right now oh that's gonna be a mess wait a minute i will say this

[50:29]song is all about her being jealous i

[50:32]don't know maybe it's just my wife but she has never ever shown me any sort of jealousy like

[50:39]never once have i come back in and she's like where were you who are you with like she could

[50:42]she was like like she's like wait are you still here i get that more often like oh what are you

[50:47]doing here what am i one of the things i noticed on this is the lyric there's a few lyrics in here

[50:52]let's imagine for a moment that you never made a name for yourself there's a few more lines

[50:56]would they be down to ride no essentially saying if you weren't famous these other women wouldn't

[51:00]be into you but isn't it fair to say hey beyonce probably wouldn't be into you either if you

[51:06]weren't super famous is that kind of i thought that was kind of strange what did you guys think

[51:10]like are you saying that one of us couldn't date beyonce yeah wait a minute i mean i've i've swiped

[51:17]right on her about 8 000 times but it hasn't worked for me yet i don't know what the deal is

[51:23]can you even imagine what it would be like to date beyonce like in different circles right

[51:28]i mean apparently the rumor is this

[51:30]she has a documentary team following her around all the time filming her and that she has all any

[51:36]picture of herself in a climate controlled thing in her house now whether or not that stuff is true

[51:42]i don't know but just the lifestyle would just be so absolutely different like like like you would

[51:48]not you would be you would not be making homemade pizzas i can tell you that right now if you're at

[51:52]beyonce rob if you were in in the photograph room and you were riding your peloton and it was just

[51:58]getting too hot in there like an alarm went off yeah they had to have a picture of you and you

[52:00]asking leave it would be a disaster yeah i i would i would the idea of me dating beyonce and

[52:06]beat on a peloton like with my shirt off and she comes in she's like oh no hey but you would still

[52:11]be down to ride like she said yeah she does so much of this visual album just looks like sweat

[52:16]like the whole thing is just sweaty and i mean not all of their parts where it's not but it

[52:20]it just makes you feel like you're in the south and you're sweating yeah i would listen to an

[52:24]entire album of beyonce rapping in the patois that she does on this on this one verse on here she has

[52:30]she's so versatile and she only raps one time on this record and this is i would listen to a whole

[52:35]album of it i love i i that song was it's incredible i had a friend carrie who when this

[52:40]album came out she goes you got to listen to this album it's so good and i was like oh okay and of

[52:43]course i never did and i'm like shoot i wish i would have god i would be would i be cool probably

[52:47]all right next up don't hurt yourself and this is with jack white sure why not

[52:53]by the way this was nominated for a grammy for best rock performance

[53:00]but there's still that caribbean influence here right with the reggae kind of steel drums

[53:11]led zeppelin drums any rock song that has you can watch my fat ass twist boy

[53:17]sign me up i'm down this is what i'm talking about

[53:19]sometimes i just kind of like the beyonce ballads a little more sometimes these i think i consider

[53:28]this kind of like an over-engineered song there's so much going on it almost distorts like how

[53:33]beautiful or and powerful her voice is sometimes i enjoyed the ballads more than some of the more

[53:38]engineered or i don't know if you call musical whatever you want to call them there's so much

[53:42]going on with some of these songs that i enjoyed the ballads a little bit more yeah but it's pretty

[53:47]i mean if you would say like there's a couple songs in here i was like oh this is a beyonce

[53:50]song like rock and roll country like it sure that's very true crazy i hear that though russell

[53:55]also because we grew up with her her first album

[53:58]came out in 98 so we grew up with her we grew up with those ballads so we grew up with

[54:02]upgrade you i mean i guess upgrade she's not a ballad but um you know we grew up with destiny

[54:07]shout all that stuff so we we know her voice to be soothing and comforting yeah she's not doing

[54:11]absolutely for the most part uh next we have sorry that has the line suck on my balls

[54:19]this might be my favorite song yeah she just

[54:26]rips into the guy on this one

[54:28]is this also the one where that's middle fingers up middle fingers up when is the last time you've

[54:35]given someone the middle finger when's the last time you've given someone a middle finger

[54:39]oh i'm a cyclist i do it on one out of five bike rides yeah no i would say

[54:45]walking walking in new york city by the way here's the middle finger up

[54:50]walking in new york city

[54:53]you listen to this

[54:58]on her uh the homecoming album on netflix you know is that live concert at coachella in 18 i

[55:10]think it was i mean when you see her do this live she puts her middle finger up and she gets her

[55:16]face and she you know tell him boy bye i mean it would you would cower if you saw her face you know

[55:23]when she's looking at you like that like you would cower you would just run away and be gone and so

[55:27]i don't know it's a wrecked

[55:28]just by the thought of a woman doing that to me and in the movie in the visual album it's just

[55:33]as powerful it's a whole bus full of of of women um of black women of multiple many different hues

[55:41]all with um faces painted in these beautiful ways and all of them either giving the middle

[55:47]finger or chunking up the deuce and it like every time it's just such a powerful image

[55:51]oh man i just a woman to just treat me like trash oh so erotic to me just garbage just

[55:58]tell me i'm garbage i love it uh oh yeah no i will say walking through new york city i often

[56:04]am flicking people off in cars and just the other week i had somebody turn in front of me while i

[56:09]was crossing the crosswalk and i did kick their car and he's oh nice and he slowed down and i did

[56:15]square up and i was like okay get out of the car we're gonna see what happens but of course if you

[56:19]got out of the car i would immediately start running do you guys ever do the middle finger

[56:22]with the thumb out like or do you always do it with the thumb in are you a thumb out or thumb

[56:26]in middle finger no russell you know i did the thumb out russell you're doing it with the thumb in

[56:28]you're trying to set this up you gotta be a thumb in guy right no russell you know i did the thumb

[56:32]out that's the m&m style that's what i got made fun of the thumb out what's your style you know

[56:38]and i guarantee you know you know like that thing where they do like and it's you know it's 100 it's

[56:42]impossible to lick your elbow right now you know like you know and then they say 100 of people have

[56:47]tried it that's everybody who's listening to the podcast right now was looking at their fingers like

[56:51]i don't know am i a thumb out guy you know i don't know i always did come out you used to pick on me

[56:56]for that that of my umiaya style you used to pick on me wait why why do you do the thumb out what

[57:02]i think the mode is much more aggressive i think it's the thumb in is so kind of dainty the thumb

[57:08]out is just i'm really pissed yeah my problem is i have such short stubby fingers that when i do it

[57:15]when i do a middle finger it looks like kind of like a baby's penis like it does not it is not

[57:20]it is not scary if i flicked you off it's like the cover of the nirvana album

[57:26]oh oh totally this is this is the cover in the nirvana album totally nobody's

[57:30]yeah you're right it doesn't work for rob's hand his fingers are too little

[57:37]fuck you pal

[57:41]by the way if you guys were paying on our patreon to see our video tier of this podcast you'd be

[57:48]having a treat right now to see how many times we could flip each other off

[57:51]oh i thought we were gonna put this on whatever beyonce's album was on that no one can figure

[57:55]out the app what was the app that the movie's on title i just re-upped title again for the fifth

[58:00]time in my life i just like keep trying it again then cancel it once for i had to do it once for

[58:06]kendrick's untitled unmastered i did it for probably for 444 by jay-z and then i like don't

[58:11]use it and then i had to re-up last night so i could watch this video uh you know he just sold

[58:15]that for a shitload of money too uh listen here's a song i had to listen to twice six inches

[58:21]twice it's not bad rob

[58:25]i don't know why they gotta brag about how many inches they got yeah

[58:27]isaac hayes on the track

[58:33]it's six inches if you measure to the taint you know what i mean like on the bottom part

[58:38]yeah how far can you go back yeah how far can you yeah

[58:42]that's like 12 centimeters

[58:46]uh this is with the weekend and the grammys are tonight who's not there the weekend didn't get

[58:53]nominated for any

[58:54]and beyonce got nominated for a ton she's also not performing at the grammys and a lot of people

[58:59]are saying is this the death of the award show grammy's dead in honor of that song i'm stacking

[59:04]my money money everywhere i go tonight i've got some sake so i'm drinking sake tonight oh wow

[59:10]wow the fact of the weekend i was gonna get yamazaki straight from tokyo but it turns out

[59:15]that's a japanese malt whiskey it's the only the first japanese malt whiskey from japan and it was

[59:22]way too out of my price range so i did not get that the fact that the weekend is not nominated

[59:28]for record of the year is ridiculous we talked about that he has the most the longest charting

[59:35]in the top five ever and he didn't get nominated it's it's it's it's he's got such a great voice

[59:40]and a great sound for a song about a stripper murdering people or a sex worker potentially

[59:45]murdering people like he's the guy you would call right if you're like i'm gonna make a song

[59:48]about a sex worker murdering someone the weekend that's the sound i need like you just know it

[59:52]aaron you stole the words out of nobody's mouth uh so i do want to say about award shows though

[59:59]i don't think they're dead because i spent my saturday watching the kids choice award with my

[60:03]daughter and it was it made me feel old as shit i was sitting there and i'd be like who's this

[60:09]she's like what dad this is a famous youtuber i was like okay who's this she's like dad that's

[60:14]justin bieber's wife i was like i don't know who any of these people are i had no idea

[60:18]it was it was uh it was humbling all right and speaking of hanging out with my daughter daddy

[60:24]lessons oh my god country music martina mcbride

[60:32]reba mcintyre uh all these people like if beyonce was just a country singer would she

[60:41]be the biggest country singer in the world yes best since dolly parton right yeah yeah yes

[60:46]listen to this now it is

[60:48]true though too you gotta understand like she's got the best songwriters people are people are

[60:52]cutting their balls off to go write a song for her too so she's got her choice but

[60:57]and to your point you know she's sending out a bunch so like she might send it out to 15 people

[61:01]come back and like five of them make the cut right and so yeah i mean she's getting the best of the

[61:06]best but you know she gives credit to them and yeah it's funny because when you look at the song

[61:11]her talking about her dad and you know man i like to say that this is like a country pastiche

[61:15]i don't know maybe you guys don't know what that word means it's something i like to say

[61:18]that sounds about right but although i could have found that although i don't know is that

[61:22]really a pastiche i mean that's kind of a that to say that's a country song problematic yeah i think

[61:27]that's a straight up country song but her dad well that that song was about her dad here rob

[61:32]go for it and her dad is used to be her manager until 2011 when he fired her and everybody thought

[61:38]that maybe he fired she fired him because that he had trouble with jay-z but they think now it's

[61:43]actually because her dad was cheating on her mom and she was mad about that and dumped him so you

[61:48]can imagine that she's upset with men all over the place and you can also imagine how bad it would be

[61:52]to be that dad you know what i mean and you just are making bank and then all of a sudden 2011 you're

[61:57]just on top of the world and you get fired because you've messed around that would suck

[62:02]and the whole the whole relationship with your child thing that probably wouldn't be the best

[62:07]either so much oh yeah i forgot about that um when the heat rocks pod i'm gonna plug another

[62:12]pod once again the only other podcast talks about that podcast when they did their episode on prince's

[62:18]when anil dash who's a tech uh executive i believe came on and talked about 1999 and he talked

[62:24]specifically about the song delirious and about how prince when he did delirious it's when um other

[62:30]bands like the stray cats or that's the only one i can think of we're doing sort of a rockabilly

[62:35]revival and prince was was like sure i can do a rockabilly song and anil dash said prince always

[62:42]was like i can do you better than you and i feel like that's happening on this album so many times

[62:48]where beyonce says sure we want to do a rock song i can do a rock song better than the best rock band

[62:53]yeah if we're gonna do country i can do country better than the best country singer and just one

[62:58]after another she just lines them up and knocks them down it's like it's like rakim knocking down

[63:02]the seven mcs like she's just doing it to everybody on this entire album and it's just incredible

[63:07]yeah all right we got the next song it was originally tire loved loved out but then it's

[63:15]love drought okay i don't know there's a little this one's a little

[63:18]too personal for me can we just skip this one

[63:20]russ i love you what do you mean oh you're not even gonna give me like oh i like you

[63:29]you're not even gonna give me the me too one of you guys one of you guys had mentioned kanye west

[63:35]earlier and i think on that song love drought i read that the bass section in the synth

[63:39]synth line from some guy named mike dean who worked a lot with kanye west so i think there

[63:44]was a bit of influence there doesn't that sound like it could be a fake name though

[63:48]yes like his name is mike peen or something he's like mike yes he's got two first names and you

[63:53]cannot trust anybody with two first names it's like fuzzy fuzzy dunlop from the wire

[63:58]just don't trust them all right we've got sandcastles

[64:02]we built sandcastles oh i love this when we were talking about ballads earlier to me this is the

[64:09]type of song that gives me chills this is what i love damn it yeah this one this one just about

[64:13]brought me to tears today i it's and it's the one where she's there this is why we're together we

[64:19]we appreciate the same type of song we can listen to these music together i like the song but i

[64:26]cannot wait for her to get back to just telling people to f off personally i can't disagree get

[64:33]a little deep she gets that deep voice and she just starts hitting and you get that bass lines

[64:38]behind i can't wait for it let's get this is why matt had to send me the breakup text we didn't

[64:41]have the same type of feels for beyond that we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond that

[64:43]we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond that we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond

[64:43]we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond that we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond

[64:43]we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond that we didn't have the same type of feels for beyond

[64:43]saying it just didn't work oh man i wish matt would have split the bill a few times first but

[64:49]this is the one point in the video if i remember right where she specifically shouts out another

[64:53]artist and that artist is nina simone and it's a it's a visual of nina's uh silk and soul record

[65:01]playing on the turntable before the the song kind of spins up and i do think that nina is the the one

[65:08]person who took the the personal and made it universal in the way that she did it and i think

[65:13]that's the way that beyonce is doing here so beyonce starts the the whole album with an

[65:17]extremely personal on an extremely personal note and then takes it to mean something so much larger

[65:22]for her community and her people and and nina was doing something similar and obviously uh beyonce

[65:29]took inspiration from that and nina's another voice that will just absolutely make make me weep

[65:33]so uh russell and i will be listening to that later but but isn't every single album about

[65:39]love and breaking up like what makes this album so different is it just because we know what's going

[65:43]on or is it because we didn't know for sure what's going on and now we know that like he was

[65:48]you know he was like to make it because i you know like when i think of this i think of like

[65:53]like shaggy didn't get this big a deal when he was like it wasn't me then around the corner like

[65:58]it wasn't like a visual video where you'd be like shaggy like banging on the corner you know he's

[66:02]banging on the bathroom he's banging on the couch and then it like goes to a nina simone video

[66:06]is this the second some woman with her head in the dryer about shaggy yeah i think so it wasn't me

[66:13]hey before we get into before we get into the good songs i just want to say uh i uh i did a whole

[66:19]bunch of research this week a whole bunch to try to find uh you know just how important this whole

[66:25]album was sure and it was it was all me i did a ton of this research okay and like i didn't ask

[66:31]anybody i didn't shoot out a text you know like some of our loyal listeners to ask if they had

[66:36]any ideas for listening it was all me i came up with this idea he went into his mind palace and

[66:40]saw what was in there i came up with this and i found that beyonce won a peabody award for you know

[66:47]this album and then the and then the you know the the visual album that you got a peabody is a

[66:53]distinguished achievement and meritus public service award by you know for for meritus public

[66:59]service by television and radio stations networks producing organizations individuals as and as of

[67:05]the late 90s uh anything that's on the world wide web oh george peabody

[67:10]was the philanthropist in in atlanta and started in the early 40s so they've been giving these

[67:15]awards out and you know it's not a you can have four one year you can have 31 year it's kind of

[67:22]just whatever is going on that year my bubble account has not gotten a nomination no but we go

[67:27]we go to the list and you know we're trying to find you know how important how big is it that

[67:34]beyonce won a peabody so i went to me personally you know this is all my idea right and i came up

[67:39]with this idea we appreciate it

[67:40]came up with this idea and there's really only been four kind of musicians who won a peabody

[67:47]award the first one being uh bing crosby play that at the back bing crosby's a legendary figure

[67:53]in american he won it for being a legendary figure in american broadcasting he has over

[67:57]1 billion records tapes cds and digital downloads and uh this is obviously white christmas which

[68:05]side note is there anything worse than listening to christmas music in the middle of oh yeah no

[68:10]it's bad i cannot stand i mean like come come watching the white christmas movie quite frankly

[68:14]is worse that movie that's true it's terrible you don't like the christmas movie white christmas

[68:19]sucks oh i thought you were talking the christmas story the red rider bb gun that movie brocks by

[68:24]the way bing crosby had had 41 number one records uh 43 if you count white christmas the christmas

[68:32]a couple times it came out so that's more than the beatles and elvis combined so are those records a

[68:37]one one song type thing either way it's pretty amazing one one song type thing if you ever

[68:42]wonder why like have you ever like when you were hanging out with your grandparents you're like

[68:45]jesus christ these people are boring this is why i mean listen to this like this is what they listen

[68:50]to just wait to the next one let's go to the next guy bing crosby is not saying put your middle

[68:56]fingers up boy bye like that rocks this rob generally when you say hey listen to this it's

[69:03]so boring that's what we would get suggested for edits just a heads up

[69:07]oh fingers middle fingers i'm picturing bing crosby like hey baby put those middle fingers up

[69:14]fuck it boy bye you know what i'm saying out there man what's the next song is that a new

[69:18]impression of me so perry como the quote-unquote crooner won a couple times one for uh one for

[69:25]television entertainment for his christmas in austria special which raised a bunch of money

[69:30]and then uh he also went in um as a tv personality because he had like a saturday night uh entertainment

[69:37]show he ended up he had five emmys and he's got a grammy for the lifetime achievement award which

[69:41]he won in 2002 so again and a p-body and a p-body for one performance or it's like a lifetime no you

[69:51]can't for like one performance so like there's a bunch of like uh local like wcco and like mpr

[69:56]have won like uh you know different awards for like covering a certain event like okay and so

[70:01]when you were going through that list i was looking at the 40s all the way through i mean

[70:04]dave uh moore won one and

[70:07]like 1970 if you remember that name from wcco radio and so yeah you can win them for all sorts

[70:12]of different things but it's kind of there's not really like a set list of what it is it's just

[70:17]kind of like is it a was it good did it uh you know was it a meritus for you know that year so

[70:24]i sent in a i sent in an application for a p-body award for our podcast and i was

[70:28]quickly denied roundly denied as they said probably denied they didn't give us a p-body

[70:36]oh hey p-body hey how do you like those middle fingers i don't like when rob puts his thumbs

[70:42]on it's so annoying you have a terrible middle finger game rob but my thumbs are real big like

[70:47]for some reason my thumbs are big my fingers are small there's uh there's shows like the

[70:52]simpsons won a couple years ago for like 30 years of being a satirical comedy you know just as like

[70:57]a lifetime achievement award things like we'll be on like album 300 by then yeah all right now

[71:02]you guys got to listen to this next one there's a guy named oscar brand who won in 1995 over 50

[71:07]years as a host of folk song festival on wnyc new york's municipal radio the chant he championed

[71:15]folk music you know featured groups or people like uh woody guthrie when he was first starting

[71:20]out in the 50s under mccarthyism there was you know all the blacklisted artists found that the

[71:25]only airplay they got was from mr brand he would he stuck his neck out and would continue to play

[71:31]like 300 individual songs that he did in kind of folksy type uh genre and here i put three of them

[71:39]together for you just to kind of hear kind of his a mashup a mashup he's a this guy's a peabody award

[71:45]winner just was working in the lab late one night some it's a matt mashup went to the city and became

[71:51]a whore hung this sign upon her door perfect one dollar each in three four two to take a little

[71:57]crack get my ring dang do oh three four two hey three

[72:01]she said if you fuck me real good i'll take you to red lobster and the army went the price went up

[72:07]to 50 cents they caught the clap and the lowest tune i'm a seven-year-age from a ring dang dude

[72:13]a lady came up for a girdle i asked her what kind she wished

[72:23]rubber she said rubber i did i'll never go there anymore yeah

[72:31]i love this this is so fantastic this is this is the highlight of my week is oscar brand doing

[72:43]these little sea shanty type inappropriate songs this is fantastic they just they were going through

[72:48]like you know i was listening to them on youtube and they and they go in their like little you know

[72:52]one minute long songs and you'd go through them and it would go right to the next one and i'm

[72:55]trying to like edit this thing and i'm laughing god damn it it was one of those things like can

[73:00]we put this on the

[73:01]pot are we gonna get you know meanwhile so i checked with robin and he's like hell yeah that's

[73:06]hilarious meanwhile we know you're babysitting that we know you're babysitting your kids at

[73:09]home so they're out like starting a fire in the backyard and you're like what does that smell i

[73:13]don't know hey kids listen to this all right donald glover you might know him as childish

[73:21]gambino won an award in 2016 the same year that uh fiance did for his show atlanta which is on fs

[73:28]which is the show is a genre bending oh my god it's a great show

[73:31]it's quoted as genre bending innovation a skillful commentary on issues ranging from

[73:35]police brutality and mental healing to mental health to celebrity and black culture

[73:41]glover is described as a singer rapper stand-up comedian writer producer and director started

[73:48]out as a writer on 30 rock he's got four albums under the the name childish gambino and he is

[73:53]phenomenal he is i mean some of his albums they have to be like 501 and 502 on this list next

[74:00]time the list comes out one of his albums will be on it he's phenomenal on there for sure yeah

[74:04]that was that'd be on there that was a super impressive impressive resume if i could get

[74:08]that resume and add a p-body to it i would for sure get at least 10 more swipes in the in the

[74:16]data game right yeah do you hear all that stuff that guy's accomplished russell russell i don't

[74:20]i don't like to hear this i think you have a b plus body for sure so russell russell always comes

[74:29]he brings uh his lists and i thought i better dig deep and so i came up with all of that content

[74:34]there i'm impressed it was all me guys i just wanted fantastic and by the way rob hats off as

[74:40]rob by the way rob uh said i did i definitely didn't forget this earlier it was time

[74:47]and as rob correctly said i really don't think it was better christa from the minneapolis

[74:55]thought of it so but i wanted to say that because she probably has

[74:59]written you an email because she's listening to it and she's probably already written you an email

[75:03]you know taking credit for it but i thought i'd just let that marinate for a while so read that

[75:08]email next as you come forward that was a fantastic list man i loved it yeah by the way this is the

[75:12]whole song i'm playing it's a minute long james blake forward so james blake on wikipedia tells

[75:19]a story about this of when she came into the studio he played something and he was supposed

[75:23]to use her idea but he chose not to and she liked it and then used his thing it's another example

[75:29]of a bullshit wikipedia story where a guy's like yeah i came up with this cool thing beyonce took it

[75:34]you know she really liked it it's like yeah right rob's notes for this are longer than the whole

[75:39]song james blake james blake is on the same level as bony ver with me like i just don't get it i mean

[75:46]i don't that's matt i thought this was bony ver when i first heard the album yeah yeah like oh

[75:51]it's a guy who gets he must be very good as a musician because he's you know he's collaborated

[75:56]with a whole bunch of people but i don't know i don't get it no i

[75:59]i thought it was bony fair when i heard it that song is so short it should be called small forward

[76:03]all right we've got freedom two guard and now we start getting into the more

[76:10]this shit is hard this has some this has some energy some fire this is badass

[76:17]let's talk about the history of being a black woman in the united states

[76:21]yeah and this one right yeah there's some field reporters from lomax on here which are

[76:29]listening themselves 2016 she was are using gender inclusive language isn't that fantastic

[76:35]she says themselves it's so good what we got an old favorite on here you can't you can't have a

[76:41]song about uh systemic racism in the united states without putting kendrick lamar on here

[76:46]and he's doing a great thing where his rap is he's counting down from 10.

[76:59]eight blacks left deafness around the corner you've listened to kendrick lamar before but

[77:04]the more i hear from him the more i appreciate how amazing he is and why people put him up on

[77:09]that pedestal as being the best and what i mean i how much would you pay for a whole album of

[77:14]beyonce and kendrick lamar together on every song i mean just fantastic

[77:19]badass so then one of albums in late 2015 early i guess i don't know when this came out in 2016 but

[77:27]this was to me a lot of this was in response to ferguson and kendrick did it i guess kendrick's

[77:34]album came out before ferguson but then it became a response then d'angelo black messiah came out

[77:39]and then this came out and this one to me is the pinnacle of that that movement of just really

[77:44]talking about what was happening giving people a voice and especially the last song in this album

[77:48]formation which was kind of a single that was tacked on at the end because really this all

[77:53]night i think is the closing song of the album because it's talking about okay my husband she's

[77:57]cheated on me i dealt with it now what are we going to do for the rest of our life you know

[78:01]what i mean it's a i bring back those god this sounds good guitar

[78:08]i mean this is one b for me his favorite songs i'm with you this is fantastic but i love it too

[78:20]because it's like you know it's a rock song that's not like russet it's not overproduced

[78:25]and you can hear just how brilliant she is

[78:27]i don't get to make a real ruling on these albums because again i painted myself into a terrible

[78:33]corner i gotta say guys this is one where literally i'm gonna listen to it like forever

[78:38]like i love this absolutely yeah let's do it every day i mean it's this for me it's the albums

[78:43]that that is true for me is this and that kanye album i just love it is this a song with all the

[78:47]trumpets on it too or the horns or not yes let's talk about the sample the sample the outcast so

[78:53]so tell me man what's going on with these horns well

[78:57]there's a maybe the best outcast track ever made spody ody dopealicious which i don't know rosie

[79:05]what's your thoughts oh my thought is that i need to listen to more outcast because i i don't know

[79:11]this album as well as i should because this is from southern playalistic right right and it is

[79:15]good enough so so i know the song i love it you piece of shit rosie shit yeah so these horns right

[79:23]here but but they're and you know we were trying to figure out if they were sampled or not they're

[79:27]jason freeman and his brother jerry are with a group called horns unlimited and are still active

[79:31]today and travel and and play with uh outcasts whenever they're still going but phenomenal so

[79:37]here hit those horns once oh yes

[79:46]i just think it's amazing that you know so much stuff is sampled so much of like cool

[79:54]rap songs are like oh that was from the 70s

[79:57]the 60s and this you know this is this was in 98 they came up with that that tune and it so but for

[80:03]her to choose it as a sample is her giving because i think a lot of this album is expanding genres

[80:09]beyond r&b beyond hip-hop she's working with producers from or you know band members from

[80:15]animal collective she's working with people from vampire weekend so she's expanding just like we

[80:20]talked about kanye doing she's expanding her scope of influence and uh being influenced

[80:26]but she's still giving messages to her her core group of fans to say yeah i know outcast so here's

[80:33]here's an outcast sample in uh is it in hold up or in the third track where she quotes soldier boy

[80:41]and she says i'm about the band got my swag on that's a soldier boy and like wait what'd she say

[80:47]i'm about the band sorry sorry we couldn't hear that one more time

[80:51]we weren't recording

[80:53]so she's bringing in

[80:56]these like little things to be like you know you you can you can't you can take me out of hip-hop

[81:03]for a minute but you can't take hip-hop and r&b out of me i mean she does it with the isaac hayes

[81:07]stuff on six inch too and it's just so cool how she's able to bring that in while bringing in all

[81:12]these other sounds uh and then our last song is and obviously we're probably not the best people

[81:18]to be talking about this album in general or what this song is talking about but this was a song

[81:21]that was released uh on purpose one day after what would have been trayvon martin's 21st birthday

[81:26]uh this this is a song that became totally a lot like that kendrick lamar album we talked about

[81:32]kind of enmeshed with the with the black lives matter movement this is formation

[81:35]i'm so possessive so i'm not gonna lie i was gonna make my parody song today

[81:42]radio station about how aaron couldn't find his radio station

[81:45]but it didn't seem right to me to do it

[81:56]and really like this is kind of what you're gonna see for a lot of beyonce from 2016 to now

[82:02]how are we gonna say about this i mean just what what a what a killer i mean just a great album

[82:11]then a killer ending to it it's just just crazy so that was beyonce's lemonade all right so guys

[82:20]first of all i'm just gonna tell you right now i think this album is so good it should get a b plus

[82:23]on say oh yeah

[82:26]that's not even my closing joke so just wait because i got a good one coming up

[82:30]hold on tight all right so uh is this oh no guys i don't have my notes with my with my rating system

[82:36]i'm gonna have to go off the top of my dome uh so we're going to get to everyone's favorite part

[82:41]it's it's listen how good is it well listen to this it's it's time oh god i thought that was

[82:48]everybody's favorite part of the show the patent and very popular beck did it better

[82:56]yeah i got a trademark too so uh yeah it is it is a invention i did patent it um matt so are you

[83:08]going to rate this album oh no i don't really don't have it written down this is stressing me

[83:12]out is this a rolling well toned what that means is that this is album number 32 and it should be

[83:18]32 32 is the perfect spot for this album listen 31 uh-uh 33 oh i don't think so 32 wow this is

[83:25]a rolling well toned people of rolling stone magazine you did a great job did this album

[83:30]get rolling boned okay is it too low on the list and of course by low on the list means we should

[83:35]have covered it already not on episode 32 now this isn't episode 32 if you look at our itunes

[83:41]but that's because there's been some mix-ups listen did this album get rolling bone do you

[83:46]want to give the editors of rolling stone a thumb and a middle finger your hands up and so or is this

[83:55]a rolling groan ugh i didn't like this album 32 man this should be 33 this should be 34 we we were

[84:03]on time until rob just pulled that stunt right there lower yeah no rolling groan means it should

[84:10]be lower again on this list that means a higher number so i think this is all very fair i've got

[84:15]i have got a number of voicemails actually complaining about me explaining this well guess

[84:19]what put your fingers up fuck you or however that parko song goes okay i'm gonna put it in there

[84:25]uh matt what do you think well i'll just say first of all that my wife thinks this is probably one of

[84:31]her favorite parts of the whole show she thinks it's amazing you can just whip that off the top

[84:35]of your head i don't think she knows that you normally have notes that you're going off of but

[84:38]i think you did just fine so great job just like when he cheats on you maddie cheats on

[84:43]our listeners with those notes yeah all right you're ready ready yes um i think that you know

[84:52]i've been very critical of

[84:55]albums that are just extremely um sterile if you will like there's not one note out of out of beat

[85:03]there's not one um iota of anything that's like a mess mix up on a of a somebody playing an

[85:11]instrument or anything it is so clean so tight uh is it stevie wonder that i was saying that

[85:15]about i mean there's some other things that it's just i've said i've hated those this album

[85:19]completely flipped my thriller michael jackson that's what it was yeah you know this album

[85:24]absolutely flipped my thriller this album completely flipped my thriller michael jackson that's what it was yeah you know this album absolutely

[85:25]flipped that thought for me you know there's not there's nothing out of out of line with this album

[85:29]at all but i love it it's the first one when we got the new uh list out that i i was listening

[85:35]to going through the list again this is the first one that just blew me away like this album is so

[85:39]great i can't believe i haven't heard it before so it's absolutely got rolling boned

[85:44]oh right and i forgot what that means russ what do you think of this album

[85:48]is it a rolling well tone is it a rolling bone or is this a rolling groan

[85:55]when i listen to it and this is kind of the first thing i've thought of with all the newer albums

[86:01]i've always kind of thought some of these albums have really stood the test of time they've been

[86:06]around for 50 60 years i always wonder if the newer albums you know ones that are within the

[86:11]last four or five six years whether it's just kind of the end thing now and so they're getting

[86:15]too much credit but i listened to this and was just really blown away by it to me i really i

[86:20]said this earlier i love the beyonce songs where they're more of the ballads where i can hear her

[86:24]singing and just wailing to me it gives me the chills i think she's an amazing singer for me some

[86:30]of the songs are a little bit over engineered i think there's too much going on and that's just

[86:35]for me personally but i'm gonna say it's rolling i was gonna say it was rolling well toned but on

[86:40]the off chance that any woman i ever meet in the future listens to this oh and as a beyonce fan i'm

[86:46]gonna bump it up i'm gonna say this is rolling boned it should be higher on the list rolling bone

[86:52]all right aaron what do you think

[86:54]yes this album is a movement it's part of a movement i rob mentioned the black lives matter

[87:04]movement black lives do matter we're recording this the day after the one-year anniversary of

[87:08]brianna taylor's murder this album is rolling boned there is nothing like it it is one of the

[87:13]greatest ever all right and the correct answer by the way it's too bad all of you got this wrong

[87:20]the correct answer is this is a rolling crustacean all right

[87:24]i i this this album is that something you could order at red lobster okay so for all you dummies

[87:30]out there crustacean is like a it's like a lobster this this is your science lesson from yeah from the

[87:36]the cafeteria work right hey everybody i'm uh mr rob i almost said my last name i'm mr rob i'm your

[87:42]teacher today i'm gonna teach you this is rolling crustacean because i feel like this album fucked

[87:47]me so good i love this this is like fucking my ear holes it's just so great uh class dismissed

[87:52]now i don't i don't get it because uh it's different though because when my

[87:56]you know normally take fucking somebody and going to red lobster you'd have a shrimp feast

[88:01]but my wife says it's more like a limp obese

[88:04]really helps to read it i mean if you read it it really makes sense obese

[88:22]i don't know i don't know if our middle fingers play as well on the podcast as they do in the

[88:29]just a heads up oh you think the listeners are going to care that they can't see us

[88:32]all right there's a lot of visual humor going on here and it's just as funny as the

[88:46]oral humor that you're hearing in your ears right now uh listen up next week we're all the way up

[88:52]you

[88:52]up to 33 we have amy winehouse back in black i am excited to see how that rehab worked out

[88:58]oh oh my god when you want to hear

[89:02]i'm gonna just

[89:22]back did it better so i my mom reached out to me and she finally got her vaccine

[89:26]and she told me i may qualify for an early vaccine and this was like the worst part of

[89:31]my week where she said well you've had this one medical issue and technically you are probably

[89:35]over the mass body mass index where you would qualify as morbidly obese so you should go get

[89:41]your your vaccine now and that was the worst part of my week the fact that my mom called me and said

[89:47]you may be over the weight limit to get an early vaccine that's my life russ my mom's

[89:51]said that shit to me three months ago
